EU time zone friendly Game Night: interested?
 

As many may be aware there's a regular Game Night session held on Thursdays but timed to North American time zones (or as what we in Europe and similar time zones might call "way too late" or "crazy early o'clock" or "fuck you I was sleeping, no I can't play video games right now"). Having now returned to the realm of the PC master race I felt like kicking up and idea me and Boo were discussing fairly recently: a Euro time zone Game Night session. Not limited to Europe of course, but I imagine that'll be the most likely people to around the sort of times we'll look at.

So the plan would be to set a regular day/time to do a Game Night and decide during the week or on the night what we felt like playing. But first things first I thought I'd put a feeler out there to see who might be interested. In all likelihood we'd probably be looking to run this in the ballpark of 7pm-11pm BST/GMT, or whatever that'd be in your part of the world (for a lot of Europe one or two hours shifted either side of that). It might not be the worst idea to run it the same night as NA Game Night, so that'd be on a Thursday.

If you might be down for such a regular gaming session then post below, and let's kick things off with what days and times would suit you (please mention time zones).

I strongly second the motion to make this happen. I've had some fun sessions with Boo but it would be fantastic to gather more people and try out a variety of games like them 'muricans do.

Thursday night sounds fine, I think my time zone (CET) is one hour ahead of UK, and Finland another hour up.

Since I suppose a lot of this would be happening on Steam, why not gather up everybody's handles here? As for me, account name is faceface, with ^___^ as the current display name (I'm in the GFF group).

And yes indeed, the good folks of euroland need their sensible time for cooperative online ownage. Pick a time, I'll be there.
As for the intended games to be played, I guess we could see what most attending nerds own or just go for something free, ala Megamans. L4D is always a pretty good bet too.

Pick a day that isn't Monday or Wednesday, and i should be able to show up from time to time as well.

Good point, I throw Steam handles into the top post. Mine is OmagnusPrime. There's a Steam Group for 'Murican lot, so we could always do that too.

Well, inasmuch you're already in the existing Game Night group, it seems to me to make more sense just to promote you to Officer: then we can both schedule events using the existing group instead of you having to build a new one from scratch.

We'll just say whether it's a Euro event or an NA event or what have you when we put it on the calendar, and then people can show up to either as it suits them. Also easier to arrange hypothetical cross-ocean events that way. :shrug:

Also, we scumbags without normal jobs can play as well!

Yeah I'd be up for this if ever I can run anything you guys play. I miss being able to participate in this kind of event, and that timing though it starts at 3PM for me would probably be more doable at present than starting at 10PM as is the case with the regular group.

OK so it seems like there's a number of people who are down for this alt-time Game Night crew. The Steam Group of which Pang speaks is called "Coupler Duty" and you should be able to join. If you have trouble finding it let me know and I'll ping you an invite.

So what days will work for people, would Thursdays be a good fit for most people?

In September I won't be working Fridays so Thursday works for me. Do you guys use skype at the same time? Might be worth sharing Skype handles too, although that would require me to install Skype and remember my log in details from ten years ago when I last used it.

Yeah, the NA crew uses Skype and I always thought it was a nice touch. My handle is f4c3pwnz, and as I said in my previous post, thursday night is perfect (barring any exceptions).

Also if you want to throw ideas for games into the ring, now would be the time to do so. I've got access to a bunch of shit, not all of it is installed. I would recommend "Mount Your Friends" but most people haven't picked it up yet. So, think about correcting that for a few bucks.

But yeah, ideas people. Let's have 'em. :)

I'll be working Thursday evenings for the next three weeks but after that, I'm in like Flynn.

I just cannot commit to this specific Thursday because reasons. I may or may not hop in at the last minute, also got a bit of monies in my Steam wallet so I could pick up something on the way if needed.

It's not like Thursday is set in stone in any way, we could just as well move it to another day when everyone interested could attend, on the weekend maybe?

This weekend is also out of the way for me (including Friday night). :( I'm available Wednesday, though.

OK so I can't do tonight (out seeing friends), and it sounds like Thursday might be an issues, same for the weekend. Could be this week is a bit of a no go.

So can anyone actually do tomorrow? Even if we get just a small force going could be worthwhile.

Yeah this Thursday is out for me as well, I'm working a gig in a bar so late night. Maybe next week I'll be free though.

I put Euro Game Night launch on hold then as tonight is clearly not going to work out. So, when next week would work? Is Thursday actually viable?

Thursday should work for me this time, unless something comes up. Hopefully we can get enough people to get the ball rolling this week.
