Jack Thompson to Face Permanent Disbarment

I assume many have already heard the name but for those who do not know who here is Wiki: Jack Thompson (attorney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
and gamepolitics coverage of this soon to be ex attorney: Jack Thompson | GamePolitics

GamePolitics News | GamePolitics reports that the judge in the case recommends Jack Thompson be disbarred permanently with no chance of re-admittance. (Complete with the 169 page PDF of the recommendation). It is quite a powerful statement of just how serious Jack Thompson’s abuse of the legal system truly is, despite how many uber-conservative blindly supported him in his crusade. (see: FoxNews, state of Utah)

We Have the Judge's Report Recommending PERMANENT DISBARMENT for Jack Thompson | GamePolitics

Reading the actual decision, it amazes me how he kept his license for this long, and this is from someone who has been watching this train wreck for a while. The biggest revelation for me was the nature of his attacks on Florida attorney Al Cardenas. I had heard him spew his hate and vitriol at this man before but I had always assumed that he was a lawyer that Thompson had some sort of court battle with (i.e an opposing counsel). It turns out that he had nothing to do with any case Thompson was ever involved with the law firm Mr. Cardenas was a partner in did, but Mr. Cardenas himself was just a powerful man who targeted by Thompson because of his connections to the Republican Party and Florida A and M and others. The Judge said it best:

“the conduct and motivation of Mr. Thompson as proven by the evidence surpasses the extreme, at the very least. It is almost hard to imagine a lawyer comporting himself in this wholly reckless manner, but the evidence shows beyond any doubt that the Respondent in fact, did so. Mr. Thompson caused a series of chain reactions of utterly inappropriate, offensive and debasing conduct that belies any sense of moral decency and professionalism.”

If there was any doubt that this man’s conduct warrants the type of punishment he is getting this case pretty much puts those doubts to rest as far as I’m concerned. It starts on page 134

Other highlights:
1)The long footnote on page 39 explaining how Mister Thompson chose to answer a simple question.
2) The 60 minutes interview he keeps holding up to prove his credentials, he wasn’t even the counsel of recorded at the time, despite make himself out to be as such this type of misrepresentations is actually one of the counts he was found guilty. I finds this entertains because in the gamepoltics’s comments section people were pointing out that he was misrepresenting himself as an attorney in the case after the judge kick him off the case by revoking his temporary license to practice outside his home state, Jack basically dared people to tell the Bar about it, calming they wouldn’t care. Guess what Jack they do!

So, Comments? Anyone disagree with the recommendation? Any one feel sorry for old Jack or do you just need help deciding which bottle of Champagne to open? Discuss.

He's had this coming for a long time now. Jack Thompson has been nothing more than a pain in the ass to not only the gaming community, but to the general public. Unfortunately, this probably won't be the last time we've heard from him. As we all know, he's a persistent little bastard and will do whatever it takes to get his way until someone slaps him on the wrist and says "NO!"

That's basically what happened after the verdict was handed down of enhanced disbarment. He was slapped on the wrist, told "NO" by the judge, and he runs off crying while court was still in session. He got what he deserved, no question.

Does anyone else wonder, with horror, what sort of profession he's going to try his hand at next?

Seriously though. thank god. This has been coming to him for a long time.

I don't worry about him at all, actually. Because Jack Thompson isn't fucking relevant. And the only reason he comes up is because people feel he's some newsworthy fucking topic when he's clearly a bitch. Time has put him in his place because people who actually matter STOPPED PAYING ATTENTION TO HIM.

I came here to say the exact same thing.

Much like Uwe Boll, the only reason anyone knows about this guy is because of threads like this, started by people like GFF posters. If you want him to go away, ignore him.

The idea that someone is going to make your stupid video games less gory is as much fantasy as Rowe Vs Wade being overturned or riding a unicorn to work. The problem here is as much Thompson having a big mouth as every fucking idiot on the internet not understanding how the legal system works or the American government is run.

I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed in Jack Thompson's actions or the gamers out there who are perplexingly self-satisfied with his downfall; as if they somehow had a hand in it.

Yes, of course, victory to gamers everywhere! Or something.

EDIT: Fucking hell, now it just looks like I'm jumping on the bandwagon in this thread.

Like Garr, I view the situation with a bit of melancholy. This man was funny and no one listened to him. The next person who takes up his cause might sound more convincing than Mr. Thompson!

All I'm gonna say is the time he filed a "picture book for adults" and the time he included gay porn in a court filing were pure comedic gold. :tpg:

Best IRL troll ever, in my opinion.

Given Fox News' renowned journalistic integrity, I doubt they'll let a little disbarrment prevent them from keeping Thompson around as an "expert".

Probably won't stop Gamepolitics.com, either.
