Public service announcement regarding Marathon: Durandal. on XBLA :barf: :barf:

Normally I'd just post this shit in either the 360 thread or the XBLA thread or whatever the fuck.

But I'm just making a new thread so that people might actually see it, if they own a 360 and noticed that this went up today.

There's something about Marathon that's off. Could be the frame rate, could be...fuck, I don't know WHAT it is, honestly. But there's talk of it causing motion sickness to the nth degree.

IGN says it in their review, GAF is talking about it, and most other major forums have at least someone reporting it, and I"m here to say it hit me like a ton of fucking bricks, and I've already ralphed once.

And I never get motion sick. In fact, this is the first time I think it's ever happened to me. So it's pretty major.

Just a heads up for you folks. Ugh.

Those oldschool FPS games used to do that to me all the time.

Turok on the N64 made me throw up if I played more than 30 minutes at a time. It was terrible. I'd kill some raptors, goof around with some crazy alien thing, then the headache would set in. Once my head started to hurt I'd scramble to a save point so I could shut it off. Of course, running around the stage made things even worse, and pretty soon I'd feel sick to my stomach. If I was lucky, I wouldn't have to lay down and watch the room spin. If I wasn't, I'd puke until the room stopped spinning. And to this day I've never beaten that game.

I suspect the same can't-play-long-or-I'll-barf-so-I-won't-even-play-it will happen to most of the people who bought Marathon on XBLA

This is pretty awesome. Maybe I'll get the demo (if there is one) just to see what its like to get sick off a video game.

Then definitely don't play this one. The old stuff NEVER got me, and I've played the old Marathon and that didn't get me either. This specific version has some issue that is just debilitating and I'm not entirely sure what it is yet.

Half the people posting in some threads on various other forums are reporting feeling sick, which is quite...quite something. Obviously it's not a 1:1 ratio but it's awful high. it surprises me that people who have never gotten sick before are getting sick now, such as myself and others. It's strange.

IRC said it was probably part of the Halo 3 viral marketing campaign. "Finish the Barf". I'm inclinded to agree.

I played it and didn't find it bad at all. My main problem with the game though is i don't know what the fuck to do, half of the time and the constant need to check the goddamn computer things.

It could be that many people are sitting far too close to the TV and not putting the recommended 5+ foot distance between them and the screen.

I have had a history of this happening with me, so if it is causing people who have never dealt with the issue problems, it must be something.

I actually noticed this myself. I've never had motion sickness (except that time when a plane decided to take a swim in some very heavy turbulence...) but Marathon actually made me feel sorta queasy. Had to stop and have a nice lie down.

Nice to know that it's fucking up more than me...

Merry-go-rounds make me motion sick, so I don't play FPS games. Still, it's fun to laugh that they released a game that makes so many people barf.
