Sound Problems w/ Formatted Computer
Okayzzz
So I reformatted my computer (from CD)... I had 2 problems while reinstalled 1- missing duser.dll file (so I skipped it) 2- when it was "updating" for some fun reason it said I had some setup something unabled.... So long story short, internet didn't work, I moved the duser file to my other computer under system32 and again reformatted computer with no problems BUT now I'm getting the following error with winamp/wmp: http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8623/untitledzj8.jpg ^When I go to device manager under sound - I get Code:
Sound, video and game controllers No idea what to do..... before the formatting everything was fine oO BTW, I'm using WinXP Home |
Update DirectX and audio drivers, and try again.
|
I agree with Zerg. Grab the newest audio drivers and see what happens.
|
Okay I installed the latest DirectX - but still no luck
I tried upgrading my sound card by searching "Legacy sound card upgrade" and I tried "MPU-401" search... but I can't seem to find any downloads... either they're money/broken links - maybe I'm just doing it wrong oO I did manage to get a Essmpu file name which under the description is "ESS MPU-401 driver" but I have no idea where to place it oO |
"Legacy sound card" is not the correct name of your soundcard. You need to install the proper drivers. If it's an onboard soundcard, you need to provide the name of your motherboard. Ditto if it's a laptop.
|
Is there a program that allows me to know what kinda motherboard I have (I remember there being one but I forgot the name oO).... 'cause I really dun wanna open it up manually and look at it
|
Maybe you're thinking of this?
|
Yep that's the program ^^
But hmm... not sure what I should do though >.< http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/8052/56993664qt5.jpg |
I can tell you that your motherboard is an Gigabyte GA-8SIML board, and the drivers for the sound can be found here.
|
K I downloaded and both audio files from here: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...tName=GA-8SIML
Installed one of them fine... but the other gives me the following error: http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/5831/78692627mx8.jpg I'm still getting the audio error >.< |
Which driver installation failed? Realtek AC97 or SiS 7012?
Here are some steps you can take. Any time you encounter problems, don't proceed down the levels. At each stage where you are supposed to take corrective measures, retest for error message. Level 1 Diagnostic: Drivers

Hmm that fourth one got it! It's working now thanks a million!!! And thanks for helping me out on my other problems too!!!
