Things you hate, yet everyone else seems to love (which makes them hate you)

I know a handful of folks who hate mushrooms. This is RIDICULOUS. Mushrooms, in all honesty, could replace meat if meat decided to disapear for some unknown and unquestionable reason. Umame, check that out.

I know a few people who hate mayonaise, I used to be one of them. LITTLE do they know how awesome mayo can actually be, maybe not eating like peanut butter, but using it to make your very own sauces. Do you like Sriracha? Throw some into some mayo, a bit of salt, shit, you got yourself a milder yet more flavorful sauce you can dump all over your rice and beans.

I myself hate funyons and just about anything processed, like American Cheese. I've been in a few heated debates about why, but some people just seem to like eating waxy and yellow poop. That's not just me, though.

And you?

CryHavoc Mar 27, 2008 02:54 AM

I hate , and i do mean HATE tea..

True that may not seem like a big deal where you guys are, but where i come from tea is like Jesus, how can you possibly declare that you hate Jesus in public?

Gray Mar 28, 2008 10:39 PM

..humans. Ohhh, you mean food.

Chicken. Beer.

Angel of Light Mar 28, 2008 11:09 PM

For me, I've never ever been a fan of kraft dinner. I could never stomach the stuff as a kid, and even now I can't even stand the smell of it. Its just one thing I've always hated, but it seems like everyone I know loves to eat the stuff.

Paco Mar 28, 2008 11:26 PM

I hate the vast majority of fast food joints. On any given Saturday night, you will find me and a group of friends drunk as fuck and looking for a place to "nourish" at. The vast majority of the time I will hear the default standard, "Hey, let's go to Jack In The Box!"

FUCK THAT. I will pay the difference to eat anywhere else. In the end, we'll end up driving around for a half hour looking for a seedy neighborhood in which we will inevitably stumble upon a taco stand which will serve great "drunk" food at a great price. I loathe fast food joints with a passion and I'm sure my friends hate me at times because of this. I am okay with this.

Why?

Because fuck 'em, that's why.

Tonight, I discovered I may never be able to love ice cream anymore because it tastes too much like milk. I will have to try this a couple more times to confirm it but the 10 minutes I gave myself between the two spoonfuls of chocolate raspberry ice cream my boyfriend was throughly enjoying, gave the same effect of big red alarm signs going off in my brain that spoke loudly of "ew, tastes like milk."

:(

I'm sorry, it tastes like milk, and milk straight up usually makes me sick... (lactose intolerant, for those of you who really need an explanation!)

The Wise Vivi Mar 29, 2008 02:08 AM

I HATE coffee. I will drink it if I have to in order to stay awake in EXTREME cases, but otherwise, its pretty much crap.

I have maybe 3 cups a year.

Other than that, I like pretty much everything else.

Skexis Mar 29, 2008 02:08 AM

Plain steak/brisket/hamburger.

I can appreciate a good burger on its own, depending on who made it and how much seasoning/worcestershire sauce went into making it, but I've never been a fan of plain beef flavor. I always need a hearty helping of BBQ sauce or ketchup, if nothing else.

Dark Chocolate. It's bitter as hell. A lot of my friends wonder why I could hate something like that.

I prefer Milk Chocolate, thank you very much.

I agree, Dark Chocolate isn't on my list of favorites (Even though I am a chocoholic). Milk Chocolate is something I prefer for the most part.

I do hear that dark chocolate is better for you though and that REAL dark chocolate (The stuff made in Europe) is actually really good. I haven't had too many chances since I cannot afford that kind of quality...

It's different, but according to most dark chocolate fans I talk to, it's a matter of being savory rather than super-sweet. You suck on the chocolate rather than chewing right away, so that the flavor has time to sit on your tongue.

Chaotic Mar 29, 2008 02:29 AM

But that's pretty much what I hate about dark chocolate. I usually savor any chocolate in my mouth, just the bitter taste flowing through my tongue throws me off.

Then again, I do have a horrendous sweet tooth, so that's probably a good reason why I like white and milk chocolate more.

Dhsu Mar 29, 2008 03:06 AM

Can't stand white chocolate. Nasty stuff. :(

<3 dark, though.

CostPlus World Market is your best friend for *affordable* imported European anything. There's that, or Trader Joe's. <3

Nothing like that in Canada though.... ?

orion_mk3 Mar 29, 2008 12:49 PM

I'm a picky eater, so the list is long. I dislike tea, coffee, beef, nuts, shellfish, and more! This makes things difficult in many ways:

Student 1: "Well, here we are at an all night study session! Have some bottom-of-the-pot thick n' nasty crud mud!"

Me: "I don't drink it."

Student 2: "It's okay, I brought my Chai Organic Weatherman Underground tea!"

Me: "Don't drink that either."

Students 1 and 2: "Well, you can die in a fire then."

Then there was that time in Vietnam...

Professor: "Since we're on the beach, tonight we're going to eat crabs, crabs, and nothing but fresh crabs!"

Me: "I think crabs are about three steps away from cockroaches in terms of palatability. Also, they remind me of pubic lice and probably have worms."

Professor: "Too bad! It's arthropods or nothing tonight!"

Me: "Pass the durien, please."

Pokey Mar 29, 2008 02:00 PM

most wine, scrambled eggs with ketchup, any sort of wierd spicy/sour/what have you flavoured potato chip, and dark chocolate. caramel also pisses me off.

Krelian Mar 29, 2008 02:03 PM

Meat on pizzas.

I'm not a vegetarian or anything similar, but while everyone around me is obsessed with ordering standard pepperoni or one of those 'meat feast' things, I'm much happier to get an ultra-cheesy, ultra-thick thing covered in mushrooms and jalapeƱos.

Fire On Ice Mar 29, 2008 02:29 PM

I don't care for coffee either, too bitter. I've had a sip every now and then to see if I like it but no luck so far.

Butter Tarts. Every time I say I don't want one my family attempts to disown me and my friends think I'm insane.

nuttyturnip Mar 29, 2008 02:38 PM

Coffee's a big one. I never drink the stuff, and don't understand why anyone would; there are better-tasting ways to get a caffiene fix.

Mint is another thing I hate. People look at me funny at Christmas time when I won't eat candy canes.

nanaman Mar 29, 2008 04:23 PM

I'm very picky bout my food, and my tastes are quite selective. There are many things that I hate/dislike and can't eat, but I'll try to keep the list as small as possible.

Bearnaise sauce. Oh god how I hate it. And everyone seems to like it. When I think of it, I think I've never met anyone in my whole life who has agreed with me.

Really, I hate most of the plain fare we've got here in Sweden, and that they always have to serve at school. Like, meatballs, sausages, beef, or most dishes you eat with mashed potatoes. Then again, the food we get at school is bad no matter what dish it is. Although somehow I do like some of the most "extreme" dishes we've got here in Sweden, like "hash" (I'm not sure if that is the correct translation, but it is a dish with stuff like hacked intestines in it that is common food here in northern Sweden). Not that I do find them extreme in any sense, cause I love eating them :)

Coffee, uh, I can't stand that bitter sludge. I can understand if it is an acquired taste, but I keep away from the stuff the same way I keep away from smoking and such, cause I don't want to get addicted to anything unnecessary.

Sometimes I've wondered if I were an Asian in my past life, cause when I do dislike most European food, I love Asian food, especially just plain rice. I can cook up a bowl of rice and eat only that all by myself.

Cost Plus and Trader Joes are like a second heaven to me.

But I can't really stand coffee...I'm like, the only person in my family that doesn't drink it.

I dunno, frappuccinos taste fine to me and like..mixed coffee drinks taste fine but the straight up coffee I can't even stomach

That and Spam
