Western Animation Whoopla!

So yeah this is short notice but I'm feeling like watching some good ol' western cartoons be they tv or movie and I'm gonna do this thang on Wednesdays cuz I like the name Western Animation Wednesdays and it fits well enough. Blah blah blah I'll be showing a movie or a few episodes of something on Wednesdays from 8 PM to 10 PM just in time to finish before nutty's radio show.

So yah talk about things you'd like to see, things we be watching, and get ready for some cawwtooons.

WE WATCHING HERCULES TONIGHT. CUZ I CAN GO THE DISTANCE.

GET IN THIS PAGE TO WATCH AT 8 PM:
DA SSTRRREAAAAM

I'll probably do archives of this stuff too.

Additional Spam:
Alright I'm starting this very shortly. I hope someone joins me. =U

FatsDomino Sep 22, 2010 10:24 PM

If anyone wants to watch Hercules it's in the archives now if you missed the broadcast. =)

Angel of Light Sep 22, 2010 11:31 PM

I strongly recommend. This is an awesome idea Acer.

I'm kind of disappointed, when I heard you mention Hercules. I thought you were going to refer to this really bland cartoon I use to watch as a kid.

Went onto the stream right now, no one on there. Am I early or late? Time Zones are the bane of my existence at times

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 22, 2010 11:46 PM

Late.

I might pop in for a pre-radio show stream sometime; depends on what's being shown that week. I didn't see this until after it was long over, but I was never a fan of Hercules anyway.

Dark Nation Sep 22, 2010 11:55 PM

Dang, oh well. Always next week I guess!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Sep 24, 2010 08:45 AM

If you want to show some good western animation, Mysterious Cities of Gold or Ulysses31 is about as good as it gets, plus both have awesome theme tunes.

Also, Bananaman and Rubarb & Custard.

FatsDomino Sep 24, 2010 09:53 AM

Shin, I actually do have Mysterious Cities of Gold somewhere but to be honest the only thing western about that show is that it's primarily found with an English dub. Otherwise dats some anime, bro.

http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl...anime&aid=1006

But then again what 80s animation wasn't farmed out east?

However, I'm a little reluctant to show any long tv shows and would rather showcase a movie instead as I'm only doing this once a week as opposed to how I run the anime club here.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Sep 24, 2010 01:05 PM

It was commissioned, written, produced and paid for in France, all the Japs did was draw a bit of it. The original recording language was French too if memory serves. It's only anime if you consider Dogtanian or Belle and Sebastian as anime, I'm pretty sure French counts as Western.

Anyway, I was merely trying to suggest stuff that wasn't Disney, since most of the best Western animation isn't. You really should look up Bananaman, it's amazing. That or Dangermouse...

FatsDomino Sep 24, 2010 01:18 PM

Well the more you know I guess.

Anyway unless i change this from being a Wednesday thing to also a weekend event for some series I just don't see the two hour window on Wednesdays I've created for myself to be a very good fit for anything but a movie (I can show non-Disney movies too, yeesh) or a short series.

Call me when you're showing SWAT KATS.

Well I for one, definitely support the idea Acer. I'm bag fan of the cartoon series of the 80's and 90's. I also loved a lot of the animated movies during that time frame as well.

I personally would love to see some 80's or 90's animated series showcased on this. I think one of the best things about most cartoons especially from the 80's and 90's were a lot of them had self contained episodes. You really didn't have to watch the rest of the series to know whats going on. The intro pretty much took care of who the bad guys and good guys were. It is always based pretty much a battle between good and evil.

I wouldn't see any problems if you could show two episodes of a random western animated series and show a movie after-wards. Hell, I would stay for the entire thing.

Honestly Acer, I'm just throwing a friendly suggestion out there. I know this is your baby and I don't want to make any more work on your part, but I absolutely loved almost all cartoons and animated movies in the 1980's and 1990's. I will fully support this and you will see me there every week. I just wanted to give a few suggestions if your looking for some western animated movies to show in the next couple of months.

The Secret of Nimh
An American Tail
Ducktales: The Movie
Babar: The Movie
The Jetsons Movie
The Prince of Egypt
Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker
Watership Down
Reboot Movies (Damon Rising or My Two Bobs)
The Transformers Movie

Also if you can find this my friend, I will commend you ten fold. Its a cheesy direct to video animated movie, but I remember enjoying it as a kid a lot.

Acer, if you did want to go the route of showing a few episodes of a different western animated series, I would love to see random episodes of:

Exo-Squad
Botsmaster
M.A.S.K.
COPS
Dungeons and Dragons
Centurions
Dino-riders

I hope it continues to be a success Acer.

RacinReaver Sep 24, 2010 03:53 PM

Can we just watch the Chipmunks Adventure every week. I'll get drunk and sing along to all the songs like last time.

FatsDomino Sep 24, 2010 04:15 PM

Aw jeez, well I suppose I could start the show a little earlier and maybe do 2 or 3 episodes from an animated show or two and then a movie. A mini drink-on if you will. You are right about most of those old shows being episodic in nature so picking 3 random episodes would work although I suppose seeing the first episode is a good idea.

Anyway I'll have to think about it.

No. Hard Pass. Sep 24, 2010 04:22 PM

Oh man - what about that bizzare Pinnochio sequel from the 80s - Pinocchio & the Emperor of the Night

Angel of Light Sep 24, 2010 06:54 PM

I would think it would count LeHah, since a lot of cartoons in the 80's and 90's were animated in Japan and Korea. The best example I can think of is Gargoyles. Gargoyles was an awesome western cartoon, but it was animated in Korea or it could be Japan as far as I know.

Edit: Nevermind, you changed your initial post.

They use to show this Pinocchio Cartoon on YTV (Canadian equivalent of the cartoon network in the US) back in the early 1990's, but its not a western cartoon. Its obviously anime.

Transformers the Movie is an awesome choice. There are a lot of cartoons with short episode too, a lot of old British ones ran to just ten minute episodes. Bod, Mr Benn, King Rolo, Trapdoor all had ten minute or so episodes and were all great.

FatsDomino Sep 25, 2010 09:18 PM

Where were you guys during the last drink-on? I showed both G.I. Joe the Movie and Transformers the Movie as my secret third act - a double feature.

FatsDomino Sep 29, 2010 02:54 PM

Alright as it has been requested that I play various episodes of various animated shows we will be starting the program earlier at around 7:20 PM EST.

After those shows have played you'll be in for an animation treat more than 30 years in the making so be sure to tune in for The Thief and the Cobbler.

For another in this category, Oban Star-Racers is awesome.

DangerMouse is also classic, I watched taped episodes a lot. =)

Oban is great. I pretty much consider it anime though.

Anyway we've started the show. Please join in the fun. =)

FatsDomino Oct 5, 2010 10:26 PM

Alright last week we showed an episode of The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin, an episode of The Magic School Bus, an episode Freakazoid, and The Thief and the Cobbler.

This week I want to try something a bit different. Instead of going to great nostalgic shows I'd like to show off some shows hot off the press. I've been impressed with Cartoon Network as of late so instead of a few shows and a movie I'm gonna just spend two and a half hours (starting early again at 7:20ish EST) showing newcomer shows Regular Show and Sym-Bionic Titan and also the latest episodes of The Venture Bros.

Does that sound like a good plan? =o

The Plane Is A Tiger Oct 5, 2010 11:23 PM

I completely forgot about Sym-Bionic Titan after the first episode. What are they up to now?

FatsDomino Oct 5, 2010 11:32 PM

Three episodes so far. New episodes on Fridays at 8PM EST. So yeah episode four will air this Friday.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:45 PM.
