HOW TO: rip music, sound effects, or movies from PS1 & PS2 games
3 Attachment(s)
If you are trying to rip music, sound effects, or movies from PS1 games I hope I can help you here.
First, music get PsxMC here: http://homepage2.nifty.com/~mkb/ It's best for getting music, sence you can change the freq. to 44.1k for the .wav files. (there is a password out there somewhere for the non-free version...but it was lost with my last how to thread). You can also try PSMplay (here: http://segu.psxemu.com/ ) , there are 2 versions of this program, both the old and new versions have +/-. Last is PSound here: http://snailrush.online.fr/ It scans through all sounds on the disc, meaning you can listen to sound efx's and sample's from PSF! You can't make PSF's with it, just listen to each individual instrument. You can also get these programs here: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html If you get PSMplay working you should be able to rip the .str movies easily, thus I provide the STR decoder for TMPGEnc so you can convert them stright to an mpg movie like they were origenaly encoded, if you don't want to make .avi files. Put it in your TMPGEnc directory. You could also just use EAC for getting redbook audio stright from the game (Like JetMoto or Wipeout games) . Also use Lame for converting your new wav's to mp3 =) (see moguta's faq). Ripping from PS2 games...is a little bit more involved. You'll want to get the files I will upload, but you'll need to read this to use them or the links I provide. O_O First get GiGaHeRz's FMV Search & Extract Tool aka FMV Tool Beta 05 from here: http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55165 . Installing it and getting it working I will not go into because I got an error or to that were just crazy and I don't know how I fixed them myself but anyway, read that thread for info and any help you might need. With this program you will be able to find most hidden PSS files that were "locked" inside of .pak files and such, unfourchantly Kingdom Hearts and The Bouncer have special square made formats that have not been cracked yet (though I paln to record the movies of kingdom hearts with my capture card some day soon watch on hongfire for them XD ). You can get the hidden videos from games like Xenosaga with this prog =) I will provide the games I have scanned already for you guys to use. I will provide CubeMediaPlayer 2 Here =). With this and finding videos I use it to get the ADX vids that you find in games like Tales of Symphonia. Put your CD/DVD into your rom drive, then when you search I find best luck if I just search for video otherwise it seems to take a day or 2 for it to finish searching for files....to convert or save the files save the CRI videos and then use a newer version of TMPGEnc so you can convet them to a useable file format such as MPEG which is basicly what CRI video is...high quality MPEG-1 video and Mp2 audio. Next you'll need PssDemux, It's better the PssPlex in many ways and it's much smaller, to split the video and audio from PSS files into an MPEG-2 stream and a .Wav file. One good thing about PSS files unlike PS2 games the videos themselfs are progressive scan video which is great except for games like DMC because they record the cinamas from the ingame engine which is interlaced as pss files =(, so they look like crap enstead of say, the FFX-2 videos... Now you need a program like TMPGEnc to mix the video and audio stream into an mpeg video (I do Mpeg-2 movie rips myself), or you can do xvid or whatever you like with them. My Settings for TMPGEnc are: Audio: MP2> tooLAME> 256k or Better. Go to Options> Environmental setting> sound to "install" your audio codecs. I wouldn't use any other MP2 encoder and mp3's don't work well with MPEG-2 video. So unless you can do dolby or THX encodes...you woun't really get much better, that I know of at least. Video: Go to Settings, in the Video tab after you drag and drop the mpeg-2 and wav files onto the TMPGEnc main screen, (just exit out of the first menu that comes up), under the video tab the aspect ratio maybe may need to be changed but 1:1 (VGA) 50% of the time works fine. Rate Control Mode: I use Automatic VBR (CQ_VBR) then in the settings tab next to it Quality 100, Max bitrate: 10,000 (or so I change it judging from the quality of the video to begin with) Min bitrate: 3000. VBV Buffer I leave at 0 (auto). Profile Level: Main Profile & Main Level is what you want if you want to make a DVD from these vids otherwise you will get errors. Encode mode should be non-interlace. DC Component precision I put to the highest I can get. Motion Search Presision: Highest Quality. On the Advanced Tab I don't have to do anything to 99% of the time so.. GOP structure: Make sure Detect Scene Change is checked. Quantize Matrix: Click on the pull down box, change it to CG/animation. Then check No motion search by half pixel. Audio: Mpeg-1 audio layer II frequency is normally 44100 or 48000, Stereo, bitrate whatever you want, the higher the better. System: Stream Type, should be MPEG-2 Program (VBR) Now for Audio ripping, you have 2 choices afaik, that work at least 40% of the time. PSound again, it doesn't "see" DVD's but it can still read audio.dat files and similar types. I used this program to get the music and voices from Bloodryane. It doesn't alway get the interleve right though so audio can sound messed up. Cube Media Player can do the same as PSound but it's slow...thought you can guess what the interleave and offset are untill you get it right (good luck though XD). Alright testing my old save of this I'll try to clean it up... :~swoosh: :~swoosh: :~swoosh: :~swoosh: :~swoosh: |
Save this one please...sorry about that
|
So wait......the FMV extractor, also extracts music, right? Because your thread title does say how to rip music movies from ps1 OR ps2 games.....
~EDIT just downloaded it.....but it says it cannot find any suitable CDVD plugin......? |
Go read the thread I linked too, it'll tell you more about how to get it set up right.
No, it looks for hidden .pss and mpeg-2 files. You'll need to use PSound or Cubed Media Player for music. |
EDIT...I actually read the post :P NVM
|
do you know how to fix the interlace-like problem for Australian PAL Version Final Fantasy X-2?
|
Anybody have a good source to download Cube Media Player? The main site is down. I googled and all I'm getting are all kinds of keygens and cracks but nobody with the actual application.

deanaugust1-Sorry don't know how to help you with that..
AtomX I'll upload it I guess? (the guy that made CMP said he was going to make it freeware? dunno been away from the internet for a while) |
I can't download PSound from the official site, it seems to be down... does anyone can upload it, please?
|
You can download it here:
http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html No idea if it's the latest version, though. |
Thank you, but the download link redirect me on the official site :\
|
That was the link to the site, not the download link.
Try the link that says v1.33, just right from the link you tried. :) |
Yes... (/me baka)
btw... I'm trying to use Cube Media Player... I have been able to extract one of the audio tracks in the dvd of .hack//Infection... I don't understand how to set the interleave... 16? 32? 64? 128? ...? (I tried to put "32", but i really don't know what it is...) And start offset?? What is?? Here is a screen and here is the file... Does anyone can download it and tell me if the compression is ok? I think there is too noise in background... and... a "metallic" sound... hmmm... :\ EDIT: Hmm.. it seems with interleave = 16 the sound is better... Test 2 Double Post: Strange... i found only this audio track in the dvd... I think the others are hidden in some .bin files in "Stream" folder but can't open it with Cube nor with Isobuster, WinIso, WinImage, Alcohol 120% and UltraIso... What software can I use to open this .bin files? :\ |
Finally I have been able to open this .bin files.. (with WinRar, WinZip, PKZip...)
Inside there is a .ccs file (4GB) but when I try to extract it I get a CRC32 error message and the operation breaks... Does anyone can help me or i must give up? |
the serial number for Cube Media Player isn't working :(, i cannot convert files in cube media player
I need correct serial number thanks |
I am trying to use Cube Media Player to extract the pss files from the Dance Dance Revolution games. But I keep getting error messages when it checks the mpeg2 flags. Do i need a different program to extract pss files from DDR games?
|
I'm requesting a working serial code for cubemediaplayer 2 please. Thanks in advance.

I've used Cube Media Player to scan my Zone of Enders 2 disc (ZOE2\VOX.DAT) but the results sound garbled.
When I use PSound, the only sounds it finds are the voice over actor recordings. Any tips? I think the last time I attempted this I think I learned the MGS and ZOE game had something unusual about them. |
These programs arent working here. I cant find my CD-ROM drive. I already tryed "show more". Anyone can help me?
Thanks |
I just got Cube Media Player. So far, I've tried searching Worms Armageddon and DDRMAX for audio files. It found the Worms songs, and they played fine. They were .xa files, iirc.
As for DDRMAX, it didn't recognize that a disc was in the drive. So, I had to search the files on the disc itself. I found a file under the data/sound folder that contains all the 15-sec samples you hear when choosing a song as well as a few other music files. They are all ADPCM files. Unfortunately, they don't play properly. I can tell what song they're supposed to be, but it's kind of garbled and stuttery. I've tried changing the interleave and improved it just a bit, but it's still pretty messed up. Any tips? |
Keep raising the interleave by the 10,000s until you get to a part where it sounds somewhat better then start raising it by the 1,000s until it sounds almost accurate, then by the 100s until it sounds almost good. Stop when it starts sounding worse. If there's a preset interleave close to where you're at then use it. If not then type in multiples of 16. If the left and right audio channels are playing perfectly synchronously but there's skippage (meaning brief intervals of silence every few seconds or so) either raise the number of channels and find the new interleave or manually edit the silence out (I recommend method #1).

Anyone here familiar with the .IMC audio files on PS2 discs
I'm assuming this is a multichannel file. found one on a Gitarooman Disc i was trying to rip the audio from, but i guess it aint gunna happen, managed to run and rip the PSS's though |
I'm trying to extract the music from Nano Breaker and I keep getting little clicks and pops, is there any solution for this? I get the same problem with Ruff Trigger, every other game I've tested works fine.
Also, is there any news on PS3 extraction yet? Is there even a way to mount blu ray discs? |
Thanks for posting this. I've wanted to rip the music from "Summoner" on the PS2 for a long time.
I'm still a little confused though. Could someone just give me general directions on how to rip the music from Summoner. Such as.. Step 1 Download this Step 2 convert Step 3 whatever You don't need to be specific, I just need some general directions. I'll figure the rest out on my own. Thanks again. |
Hey guys im trying to rip the UMD of at worlds end on PSP and it works just like a PS2 disc, i guess because its sony, So now i have to set the interleave stuff for the music.
Okay guys my PSP game is sounding pretty good with cube media player as the files are ADPCM but im still getting a little bit of static in the left channel. |

Ripping Music from Dance Summit 2001
I'm trying to rip the audio (sfx, narrator dialogue, and music/BGM) from the following game: SLPM 62029, Bust a Move: Dance Summit 2001 (a.k.a. the Japan-only Bust a Groove 3).
Most of the sfx + narrator dialogue that I have found on the disc are stored in *.vb files, and can be scanned with PSound. However, after conversion, they needed to be speed corrected because they were in slow-mo/half speed. My main trouble is with the BGM. The files of each individual song (including the remixes) are in *.IVB format, which is apparently the first encountered in any PS2 game?? PSound does not recognize *.IVBs. They could be scanned and played in both MFAudio and Cube Media Player as Raw Compressed ADPCMs, but on playback and conversion, the songs are stuttery and distorted. I have found no ideal interleave and/or offset value to make them sound normal. I am mainly ripping the remix versions, as the OST with the regular versions is available on CD. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time. |
I'm not trying to rip music or do anything fancy--all I'm trying to do is to listen to the audio files on a certain PS2 game (Mega Man X8). I inserted the disc into my laptop and used Cube Media Player to scan it, and it came up with a bunch of audio files. When I tried to play one, however, an entire log of error messages showed up. So I guess my question is, how do I simply play the audio files? (I also tried reading the first post in this thread but honestly couldn't make much sense of it. =P) Thanks!

Would you happen to know where that PSound rip of X8 is (if he/she included the FMV music in the rip)? |

Also, I tried to use CMP to open some files, but when I highlighted the disc drive (which did indeed come up the first time), everything grayed out. Now the drive doesn't come up at all. Anyone know what's wrong with my copy of CMP?? :( EDIT: Since I'm having nothing but trouble with CMP (and since any online help through the service itself is out of the question since the CMP site no longer exists--or at least only exists in Japanese, which I don't speak), is there another program I can use to extract audio from PS2 discs? Thanks! |
Post the file structure here, either take a screenshot of the disc's contents or write them down.
Also, what error messages did you get? MPEG2 flag errors? Buffer stuff? It's a lot harder to figure out what the problem is when we have next to no information. |

At any rate, I resolved the particular problems of two nights ago by downloading PSS Plex. The thing worked like a dream! So I was able to demultiplex the PSS files (i.e. the movie files) into sound and video. I was able to do that on X Collection, X7, and X8. (Sadly, my hunch on X8 was confirmed: In the audio for the movies, there is no separation at all between music, voices, and SFX. :() Now I'm trying to move on to other sound file types and am running into other issues. Basically, in the Mega Man X Collection for PS2, all of the games in the collection, as well as the launcher and other things, are subdivided by folder. In the folder for each game and the launcher is a folder for sound (sometimes abbreviated "SND"), with two of the following files: "X_BGM.BIN" and "X_SE.BIN"--in other words the background music and sound effects for that game. I want to open the .BIN files for the BGM. I could go into great detail on all the problems I've run into, but before I do that, does anyone have any recommendations for how they normally open these kinds of .BIN files? I first tried Daemon, which from what I hear is supposed to "trick" your computer into thinking the .bin file is another drive on the computer once it's mounted onto Daemon. Well, I mounted it, but nothing doing. The error message I received when I tried to open the "drive" was "Windows cannot access this disc drive." (Maybe it's because I have Vista?) Next up was PAKthis from hcs's site, but I couldn't even get the thing to install. (I double-clicked the .exe file, and something came up for a split-second then disappeared. That was it.) Then I turned to MagicISO. But it couldn't do anything with the .bin. I tried extracting it, but all that did was to put the file in another place on my computer, but it was still an unusable .bin file. My attempts at actually opening the .bin file was met with an error message that said, "Can't find the file or file isn't CD image file!" So either I'm using the programs wrong or I'm using the wrong programs. I'll provide more detail or even screenshots if needed, but I guess what I'm wondering is how some of you go about opening such files when you encounter them? (Note: There were no .cue files on the X Collection disc that I could see.) Thanks. |

Mmh... Maybe you don't know: ISOs or CD/DVD images are ... Wikipedia can explain that better. BIN is a file extension commonly used for a lot of different purpose, among them, also disk images. But you will of course not find any disk images on your disc - that would be...a disc on a disc, thus redundant. I hope you understand the explanation, as it's not very easy to make it clear to non-technophiles. Bottom line: Use PSound. My guess is you'll find instruments. If you want to see if music is streamed (e.g. MP3) or sequenced (e.g. MIDI), open the disc drive of your console while the game plays the song. If it's sequenced, the music will keep playing. If it's streamed (or an FMV) the music will stop and you'll probably see a message to put the disc back in (that's because streamed data is steadily read from the disc). |
(Wow, I think that's the first time I've seen those two "emoticons" used--and a very good usage they were too!)
But anyway, this is getting very interesting! PSound worked in that it finally cracked open the .BIN file for the music and let me listen to each piece. The interesting part, though, is that each track was duplicated (I'm assuming one for the right speaker, one for the left speaker) and the music quality was not what it is in the actual game--it's much slower, has a deeper pitch, and sounds like it's being played in a tin can. Any way to fix that? (I played around with it a bit in Audacity after converting a couple tracks to WAV format, but I couldn't get far in there.) But aren't you glad, Prime, that I'm finally learning this stuff on my own instead of pestering people to rip stuff for me all the time? ;) EDIT: Actually, I found out bitrate was the problem. So I adjusted the bitrate in PSound, and now it's playing at the right speed. However, it still sounds like it's playing in a tin can. So to resolve that, I opened both track duplicates up in Audacity on top of each other, set one all the way to the left, the other all the way to the right. It's sounding good so far! :D |

Also, post a sample file. Or maybe the whole BIN. |
I have a somewhat stupid question, and I'd be grateful to anyone who knows the answer: Is there a definite difference between a sound with the interleave set too low and the interleave set too high?
This question applies to either MFAudio or Cube Media Player. If I had this information, I could at least set a bearing as to the correct interleave value for the PS2 music I'm trying to extract. |
right, can i just point out u all seem to be able play the sound through a media player of some sort correct?
why not just record the sound playing through the media player using a program called "Audacity"??? |
Same Problem
I've got the same problem.
I've got a couple games that has music that I'm quite fond of. Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 staff of Dream Tak 3 the great Juju Challenge Dark Angel Vampire Apocolypse I've been looking for a way to get the music for a long time. Please help. |
SBR???
I was trying to rip the music from the game just like you said, but all the files are in "sbr" format... I've never even heard of that, nor do I know any way to convert it... does anyone else?
|
hello all, i've been trying to rip the sound effects from Dawn of Mana. partially succeded, in that with PSound i got a list of somwhere over 8000 files out of the .bin files. problem is almost none of those files are over 3 seconds at the most. i also ran the disk through cube media, and while finding the video files, i can't figure out how to export them, and as i expected, got the mpeg errors. so to run a long story short, i'll cut to the quick. what should i do next? again, i'm trying to get sound effects like menu sounds, battle sounds, etc.
EDIT: forgot to mention. for the sound files i've gotten, most of what they consist of are clicks, beeps, and various other infintesimally small segments of a sound EDIT 2: okay, figured out how to export video, but no sound. any tips? |

Trying to rip Jumping Flash 1 and 2 music. None of the programs I've tried, works.

I know this thread is as old as youtube, but thanks for providing PSXMC Key
|
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. Sorry for bumping but it has to be said, this has been the most helpful place for getting PSX MC running. I found out about it today and have been through absolute hell getting it to work, downloading FrogASPI and so on... and I finally got it working. This is literally the only place on the entire internet that's managed to be of help, I registered to thank you all for this. |
Guys, sorry for the bump but I too have been through hell trying to convert a soundtrack to .wav or .mp3, except I didn't manage to success.
I downloaded both PSXMC323 and PSXMC253 and they both alert me that they are missing plugins. I'm trying to extract audio from a .bin/cue file which has the track I want. I can play it just fine on ePSXe. I also have the .VAB/SEQ files which are inside the image file. No matter which one I drag and drop in PSXMC, it says missing plugin. Any ideas? |
Bump!
I'm in a war against Digimon World 3, they don't released an OST cd of the game and I'm trying to extract it for myself... I tried all the ways but always failed doing it... Did someone had success extracting the music of this game?! |
Digimon World 3 OST is all over Youtube, either listen to it there or use a YouTube ripper if you want an offline version.

Listen to it through a bad quality sound system, you won't be able to hear the difference.
