Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I know that a thread had existed for this when the original live action movie came out in 2007, but that thread still exists but its over two years so I decided to make another thread for it if anybody didn't mind.

There are 20 days left, till this movie gets released. I'm always going to be a big transformers fan especially since the 80's cartoon is probably one of the best cartoons ever released. I know Michael Bay is directing and he is really over-inflating his ego with this movie. Anytime you see any of the TV spots for transformers you'll always hear a Michael Bay film.

My friends and I are going to the midnight showing and more than anything else I hope this will be an entertaining movie. I'll admit that I did like the first one, just because I didn't really care too much about the story. I just wanted to see giant motherfucking robots and that's what I got and to be honest as long as I have that in the next film I'm perfectly happy. To those that haven't kept in touch with any of the details in the movie. I'm going to be provide a list of the confirmed robots that are in this film.

Please note, that some of these robots could be changed and not included in the film at all:

Autobots
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Ironhide
Ratchet
Skids
Mudflap
Arcee
Jetfire
Sideswipe
Jolt
Wheelie

Decepticons
Megatron
Starscream
Soundwave
Ravage
Grindor
Scorponok
Sideways
Blackout
The Fallen
Demolisher
Scalpel
Alice
Ejector

The Constructicons (Devastator)
-Scavenger
-Hightower
-Long Haul
-Mixmaster
-Rampage
-Scrapper
-Overload

Here are the two main trailer for the film, plus I'm going to add a scene of the movie that was included during the MTV movie awards.

There are also a bunch of tv spots with some new footage but they can be easily found on youtube. To the GFF community are you going to see this film, and what are your general impressions of it so close to its release.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jun 4, 2009 08:31 AM

I assumed that when Bumblebee got fixed up at the end of the last one they'd change his name to Goldbug. Also, Arcee, most annoying Transformer by fucking miles.

All I'm saying is that the third in the series better have some fucking Dinobots and Fortress Maximus in it.

Oh yeah, this is out on the 19th over here for all you Englandland Transfans.

Rockgamer Jun 4, 2009 01:46 PM

Even though I really enjoyed the first film, I don't know if I care enough about this one to go see it when it comes out in theaters. It's not that it looks worse than the first one or anything, I'm just not as hyped up for it as I was for the first one (I was honestly surprised to read that it's only 20 days away, since I haven't been following the film at all really). I'll definitely see it eventually, but I just may wait out for the blu-ray release this time around.

WolfDemon Jun 4, 2009 03:36 PM

I'm curious to know why Bumblebee is still speaking with the radio when his voice was apparently fixed at the end of the first movie. Also, in the trailer it looked like Sam dropped a piece of the allspark, but didn't Prime crush the last piece of it after it killed Megatron?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jun 4, 2009 03:44 PM

Why are you looking for consistency in a Michael Bay movie of all things?

gaming Jun 4, 2009 04:47 PM

I'm more excited about how the music score will be :)
I hope it will have some new versions of the songs from the first movie - and not completely new

Timberwolf8889 Jun 5, 2009 04:56 AM

I wasn't impressed by the score of the first film...maybe that's just me. Yeah, the first movie wasn't a grand piece of cinematic achievement, but GIANT TRANSFORMING ROBOTS. I can put my pretentious feelings about film aside for that, because that's just fucking cool.

I'm really excited for this, it's a shame I wont be stateside for its release night since the theaters there are infinitely better and louder but I think I'll be seeing this opening night. It's just one of those movies. When people are occasionally cheering and making loud noises, it simply helps mask the horrible writing and any scene that isn't bitching robots killing each other! :D

Quite. They've already had to rename a couple of the Constructicons as they used the names for other Transformers last time out. In fact, there's probably more here for internet nerds to bitch about in terms of deviation from canon than in Watchmen.

Then again, Transformers has a hilariously wide range of differing story arcs so my idea of canon, having read every single British Transformers comic they ever made as a kid, is probably quite different from someone who's into the more recent Beastwars nonsense or even the original American comics which were pretty different to the UK ones.

I had a former friend of mine, he was actually a member of his site a while back he made of the most stupidest complaints I've ever heard of anybody concerning the first Transformers movie in 2007. He was upset because they never named the father and son; Sparkplug and Spike. It is safe to say that this person is a fucking idiot.

Its one of the reasons why I hate going to comic book movies, or anything along those lines with some of my friends because they feel they should have the god-given right that all the accuracies of a comic or a cartoon should be crammed into a 2 hour movie. They'll fucking nitpick at it for everything. I just go to a movie to be entertained. If I really cared that much of the mythology I would watch the cartoon or read one of the many comic books available.

Anyway, for those who are interested they released a brand new clip and it involves the obnoxious transformer Wheelie, the clip itself probably doesn't give the film any justice but its a little humorous.

I was suppose to go to the midnight showing for this movie, but unfortunately some of my friends canceled at the last minute, so I'll be seeing the matinee showing on my birthday with my wife which is a day after the films release date. I would see it during the evening but we're heading out to the comedy club for my birthday with a few of our friends.

nanstey Jun 24, 2009 03:16 AM

Just got back from the movie. Loved it, actually had a somewhat better plot than the last one, although the various bots aren't given enough development time. Ah well. Still plenty of ass whuppin' and more effective comedy bits. Sure, it's all fluff, but it's good fluff.

anoney Jun 24, 2009 01:12 PM

You serious? It was a fucking train-wreck from start to finish.

Transformers' Jive-Talking Robots Raise Race Issues
SANDY COHEN | June 24, 2009 12:57 PM EST | AP

LOS ANGELES — "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" introduces some 40 new mechanized characters of all shapes, sizes and even sexes _ but it's a pair of jive-talking 'bots that critics are singling out as more than just harmless comic relief.

Skids and Mudflap, twin robots disguised as compact Chevys, constantly brawl and bicker in rap-inspired street slang. They're forced to acknowledge that they can't read. One has a gold tooth.

As good guys, they fight alongside the Autobots and are intended to provide comic relief. But the traits they're ascribed raise the specter of stereotypes most notably seen when Jar Jar Binks, the clumsy, broken-English speaking alien from "Star Wars: Episode I _ The Phantom Menace," was criticized as a racial caricature.

Fuck, man. That was fucking HIGH SCHOOL for me. At least it had a proper ending and did some interesting stuff with the story.

Don't get me wrong, I grew up on the original shit, too, but.

Hantei Jun 25, 2009 03:42 AM

Saw this earlier tonight. It was pretty good, but also somewhat disappointing. They left so much unexplained. Seemed like the autobots got axed in development. One thing that annoyed me was that the obnoxious autobots (Skids and Mudflap, who's faces remind me of Gremlins) got the most screen time of the lot. Bots like Sideswipe, Jolt, Arcee (is she a 3 in 1 deal?) were given no intros and had little to no lines (unfortunate, because Sideswipe was really cool). The returning bots had very little to say as well.

Spoiler:
Seemed like Optimus was one of the more developed character's, even though he was out of it for about half of the movie (he was kicking ass in the forest till he let his guard down).

Also, what's the deal? They never really showed the fate of the robots from the battle, eg. 2 of the 3 arcee bikes looked to be mortally wounded, the annoying twins pretty much disappeared after their fight with the huge constructacon. The RC monster truck one seemed to completely disappear once they reached Egypt.

Looked like the US was army was kicking more ass than the autobots did in that final battle.

Nice to see Scorpinok make a return, but where was Barricade (the Saleen, cop car)? He didn't die in the first, unless the autobots and NEST took care of him during the two year gap. Also was that Blackout (the helicopter) I saw? I thought he was dead.
I guess this is what happens when a sequel is rushed. All flash, no real substance. Even though my post comes off as more negative, I'll still be trying to grab an IMAX viewing this weekend as I really did enjoy the flash, and I'm curious to see what the additional footage is.

OmagnusPrime Jun 25, 2009 06:55 AM

I saw this the other day and I enjoyed it, well sort of, but you really have to shut down anything vaguely related to your brain otherwise the sheer amount of dumb and stupid on screen will spoil it. You really can't think about the plot (insert 'what plot?' jokes here) at all, or the various continuity bits and pieces, because there's holes all over the place. Huge, epic, dumb-arse holes everywhere.

But hey, it has big robots beating the shit out of each other, big explosions, and what can only really be described as a shit-ton of military porn (I hate to think of the mess Bay made of the editing suite). Sadly it also features far too much childish humour, though I use that word incredibly loosely, and attempts at comic relief, and focuses on entirely the wrong characters 99% of the time (especially those fucking twin autobots). Basically the worst bits of the first film, which were kept to a minimum there, have been turned into a 150 minute feature. Also, didn’t we establish quite firmly in the last film that firing guns at the Transformers did pretty much chuff all? No, must stop, otherwise we could be here a while.

At the end of the day this is a mess, a gigantic fucking screwed-up confused mess of nonsense and toilet humour. This is proof, were it ever needed, that allowing Michael Bay to run amuck unchecked is a terrible, terrible idea. I did have fun with the spectacle of it all, but I must confess the more I think about the film subsequently the more I realise how bad it actually was, to the extent that I feel a little bad about helping this, in some small way, become the box-office success it will inevitably be.

God damn it Bay, cars and things going boom, these are your forte, how did you fuck this up so much?

That's because Michael Bay thinks the US military is the coolest goddamn institution on the planet, and Transformers 2 in no subtle way implies that world peace would be just around the corner if the boys in green just had unlimited access to all the poor foreign mud countries. OORAH SEMPER FI

I'm pretty sure this had been stated two years ago when the first Transformers movie came out, but...it's giant robots fighting each other and wrecking the shit out of everything.

If you want something deep and something you can discuss for HOURS on end with your other pretentious butt-fucking buddies on how the world is YOUR OYSTER, then I suggest you go watch a movie that...you know...claims to actually be deep and philosophical.

I saw it yesterday, so I guess I'm part of the 'problem' as to why movies nowadays aren't ALL oscar worthy. I'd just like to know at what point going to the movies had to be a spiritual, mind bending experience just to get entertainment out of it. It's giant robots smashing the shit out of things with several comic relief characters thrown in there. Why would you even be looking for a plot inside of this movie? You're an idiot for going into it expecting a plot.

Yes, I did enjoy the movie. Maybe it's because I don't have the class and dignity self-respect that people who blast this movie and think it's total shit do, but I was entertained.

The problem isn't that people crave a "spiritual, mind bending experience" at the movies, the problem is that people don't want to be asked to lower their standards just to enjoy a summer blockbuster.

Bradylama Jun 25, 2009 03:42 PM

The first transformers could be forgiven because it was inoffensive and dumb, but the new transformers is overtly racist, sexist, jingoistic, dumb, and outs President Obama for being a Decepticon sympathizer.

It is one of the worst films ever, and you're a dumbass for liking it.

Well, and see there in lies the problem with that statement above. When was the last time any summer blockbuster liked by anyone that has 'high standards'? As for having low standards when it comes to a movie...since when did people have to have HIGH STANDARDS about a movie just to feel good about themselves? As I've stated in movie threads before, I typically enjoy every movie I see, whether it's Tombstone to, well, Transformers 2. The only two movies that I've downright coudln't watch through to the end was Napoleon Dynamite and Disaster Movie.

As for Brady's comments, how am I a dumbass for liking it? I didn't see how this movie could be racist at ALL until people had to 'point it out' I suppose. But then again, I'm one of those EVIL EVIL people that would rather shrug off a black man eating chicken in a movie, rather than immediately crying out THAT'S RACIST! every time I see it.

Remember Brady, racism still lives on, because you will still be offended by it...even though you're white. I think. Are you a darky?

Somehow it's become fashionable to use "plot" to mean "talky, convoluted expositions, explanations, and backstory," but plotting is about setting up a compelling sequence of events. And yes, even the cheesiest, meatheaded action movie needs a plot, or there's no pacing, no tension, no payoff, and most importantly no continuity.

A truly plotless action movie would be like one of those stunt highlight compilations on youtube.
