Mmmm...Doughnuts.

What's the best kind of doughnut out there? Do you like yours creme-filled, maple-glazed, or chocolate-dipped with sprinkles on top? Are you partial to powdered sugar or plain old cake doughnuts? Are you the one person in your town that eats the lemon-filled doughnuts?

Me, I usually end up eating normal glazed, but given a smorgasbord, I like blueberry cake or maple-glazed. They probably don't count, but I'll pick a juicy apple fritter over anything (no holes in those, though).

For me, a strawberry frosted doughnut from Dunkin's is happiness. Krispy Kreme's plain frosted donuts just melt in your mouth.

Soluzar Sep 7, 2007 02:20 PM

Ring doughnuts, the old-fashioned kind. Plain dough, deep-fried, and coated in sugar. Anything else just isn't a doughnut to me.

I've never understood the appeal of Dunkin Donuts. Why would people pay a ridiculous amount for a small, dry doughnut when they could go down the street to the grocery store bakery and get larger, tastier doughnuts for a cheaper price? The only time I'd go to Dunkin is if I were downtown in a big city with no alternatives.

Dopefish Sep 7, 2007 03:09 PM

Dunkin' Donuts are not always dry. Just usually.

nuttyturnip Sep 7, 2007 03:13 PM

Dunkin' Donuts isn't horrible, just overpriced for what you're getting. I do admire their variety.

Tim Horton's actually has been coming out with some interesting flavors up here as of late.

I've always been a long time fan of boston cream, banana cream and canadian maple donuts.

Some of the new flavors they've put out, I've really enjoyed is that they have a dont called the chocolate snowflake which is actually really good. Its a donut with white frosting/shaved pieces of chocolate and some kind of vanilla flavored white cream in the middle.

Another is the banana split donut which specifically speaks for itself.

I like the plain ones with a little bit of sugar sprinkled on them. I also really like the ones that are glazed. Pretty simple. Not too extravagant.

You, sir, are absolutely correct. I couldn't have put it better myself. By far, my favourite dougnnuts are the normal "old-fashioned" kind.

I don't mind other sorts of doughnuts but they fail in comparison.

Same here, just the plain ol' non-fancy-pants ones! Although I do like some.. custard filled.. chocolate coated NUCLEAR CREATION at Krispy Kreme, because it pretty much falls apart when you try to eat it, the custard explodes out everywhere. That's a good time, right there!

I'm a sucker for Boston Cream doughnuts from Dunkin. Every time I decide to get one from there, it always has to be that. Otherwise, a Chocolate Cream will do me good also.

Celes Chere Sep 8, 2007 07:12 PM

I love a good frosting and sprinkle covered donut (shh, I like to spell it that way) whenever I get the chance to grab one. Plain glazed are good too, as well as Boston Creme.

I also love chocolate Munchkins from Dunkin Donuts but I haven't had them in forever. :gonk:

SunkistTheHedge Sep 12, 2007 01:45 AM

I prefer the walmart brand Doughnuts But their not as good as Krispie Kreme so . I like the chocolate doughnut flavors from Krispie Kreme

Ozma Sep 12, 2007 06:57 AM

Plain old doughnuts with thin sugar sprinkled are the best and are always the best.

Wtf with the other types.

RacinReaver Sep 12, 2007 09:20 AM

I personally can't stand Krispy Kreme donuts since I feel like I'm paying for air and a glaze that leaves a nasty film in my mouth.

There used to be a chain called Mr. Donut that had the absolute best donuts ever, but I think they were bought out by Dunkin Donuts a while back. For chains, Dunkin is probably my favorite since their donuts are actually substantial compared to most other places. Nothing beats a good cake or sour cream donut from there. Also, the choice between cinnamon powdered and cinnamon sugar coated is absolute <3.

There's also a local donut place near me called Yum Yum's and one donut of theirs is enough to fill you up. They're ultra heavy and come with about a quarter inch of icing. I love them, but I hardly ever pass by their stores when I'm hankering for a donut, so I haven't been there in ages. :(

In my country, Krispy Kreme tastes too sweet for me... I don't know about that, does it tastes the same among countries?

Chaotic Sep 13, 2007 11:01 AM

The only difference I've heard between DD and KK is that KK doesn't leave a horrible aftertaste in your mouth after you eat a donut... But I've never noticed it... Anyone else?

nuttyturnip Sep 13, 2007 11:12 AM

I've never seen anything horribly wrong with either KK or DD, although there's an excessive amount of glaze on KK donuts, and they're kind of small.

Rydia Sep 13, 2007 10:47 PM

I'm not a fan of Krispy Kreme since their doughnuts always seem too sweet no matter which kind I happen to try. I remember having one that was chocolate-covered and then there was still a full layer of glaze over that. I actually like doughnuts from the Mister Donut brand. I had some when I was in Asia once, and their flavors were quite good.

LaMenina Sep 13, 2007 11:45 PM

Fresh, homemade beignets are the best doughnuts out there. They are light and fluffly, piping hot, and covered with powdered sugar and they taste FABULOUS with coffee.

Craze Sep 16, 2007 09:11 AM

I'm currently a lil addicted to jam doughnuts, there's one from US which is pretty good when they're pipping hot, and I usually get some of those when I make visits to the market.

Krispy Kreme's also too sweet for me, although they're good to have once in a while. Their original glazed is pretty good, as well as their cream types. As for Dunkin I like their Boston Creme best.
