The thread where only Rockgamer posts (fall TV season discussion)

How do we not have a thread to discuss new/returning fall tv shows? Now we do. In spite of the title, others should post so we don't have 2 pages of Hellcats discussion.

Some of this has already been covered in journal territory. The Event started off pretty convoluted, but I'll watch at least one more episode to see if it gets any better. Mo0 roped me into watching Hawaii Five-O last week; not terrible, but not anything I'll watch again. I'm curious to check out No Ordinary Family tomorrow night, if only to see Michael Chiklis play a good guy again.

The Event

There is, possibly, a good show in here somewhere. It's pretty much buried at this point under a mountain of horribly convoluted time jumps, milquetoast characters, and in a twist for this genre, a bit too much answering of questions right out of the gate. After two episodes, just about every major question from the premiere has been answered, and the questions that were raised were ones that weren't nearly as much of a hook as the pilot's were. If you're going to move ahead breakneck like that you'd best be prepared to follow up right.

Hawaii Five-0

Bitchin' theme music, respectably interesting pilot, woefully formulaic second episode. It's nice to see Jin getting some work, and Scott Caan is a scene stealer, but the lead is boring and the plot of the second episode was two forensics scenes away from being an episode of CSI:. To be fair, it's fun to watch action movie type antics instead of people sitting in labs talking, but there's things like Human Target that do a better job of scratching the 42 Minute Action Movie itch. I see this lasting a season, maybe two if something else on CBS's slate tanks.

Shit My Dad Says

Oh holy god this show is fucking abysmal do not watch it you will want to bleed to death out of your asshole

Outsourced

Fuck this show. Not only did NBC move Parks and Rec to midseason to make room for this shitpile, but it didn't even have the decency to pretend not to be racist. NBC is staffed by fucking morons.

A suggestion. Never watch anything that airs on CBS.

Not exactly fall television, but how about that Mad Men episode this past Sunday? One of the main aspects of this show is the unspoken consequences looming around the corner. While I'm usually impressed with the quieter episodes, it's great to see the other shoe drop at last, or at least the set up to it. I'm eagerly awaiting the last few episodes this season.

If the premier of Dexter is any indicator for the rest of the season, the writing looks to be returning to form. Last season was entertaining for the cat and mouse aspect of things and Lithgow really chewed up the scenery, but things got campy, particularly Dexter's narration. Well, the show's always been over the top, but maybe things are going to become a bit more focused on his character's pathology now.

I think I laughed harder at every first season episode of Eastbound and Down over S02E01. It had some moments. Fingers crossed it improves.
