Post your internet speeds here

I'm interested in seeing what type of speeds everyone gets through their ISP and how much it costs them a month. Use www.speedtest.net for this. I guess I'll start. (keep in mind your speeds probably wont be accurate if you have a torrent or download going)

I pay $59.99 a month for this cable connection. During peak hours I notice my downloads dropping around 5mbps instead of 10, but most of the time I hit my cap. Probably because I live in a small town where everyone uses dial-up. =O

I think my parents pay $25 for this connection. I'm satisfied, but you definitely have better ;_;

This DSL costs me $41US a month and it's the best in all of auckland. :(

Miles Feb 13, 2007 01:17 AM

Your download is okay, but gosh. I couldn't live with such a low upload. Especially for 40 freakin' bucks!

Comcast. Right now it's 30 bucks a month. I like the tester too, though I'll probably stick with broadbandreports.com for more accurate testing.

Some Comcast nonsense included in the cable/internet/voip package. Better than I would have thought, actually.

PiccoloNamek Feb 13, 2007 04:23 AM

12,000 down, and 720 up, roughly.

Kairyu Feb 13, 2007 04:44 AM

I keep forgetting to call my ISP for any free upgrades. But for 40 dollars a month it's not bad.

I'm on Cox, but Tucson's lines have never been great and most houses are really far away from the good lines. They really stretch that last mile here. This is for about $45 a month (I pay a little over $90 for internet and expanded basic cable).

I'm sitting behind a somewhat old-school connection here, but the numbers this thing gives me don't add up at all. Seems like the test shows the speeds as being fraction of what they should be (got downloads/uploads running, but still). Oh well.

Too lazy to take the test.
I think it's costing 50 bucks for 300kb/s down and 30kb/s up for me. Plus all the other gay shit Frontier/Citizens forces on you to buy with the network connection, probably adds up to $90+. Can't get cable out here so I'm fucked.

Never get Frontier/Citizens dsl. it sucks.

Fleshy Fun-Bridge Feb 13, 2007 11:57 AM

Comcast Cable, with a promo rate of 24.99/mo or something close to that. Yeah, the upstream's crap and it really shows when I PPTP into my home network and try to fire up a Remote Desktop connection.

It's meant to be an 8meg connection. I get this through Tiscali, and I pay £18 ($35) a month for it. Not very good at all.

8mbps down connection and you're only hitting 2mbps? I'd call and complain about that. They should drop you down to a cheaper and lower rate if you can't handle more than that.

DSL or cable?

You still have that same ISP? I remember you complaining that my AOL DSL was faster than your connection years ago. Haha, I'm glad I don't have AOL anymore.

Domino Feb 13, 2007 12:17 PM

It's DSL, and everyone with this ISP is having the same problem. I'm going to see about getting my MAC in the next few days, it's been like this for months now.

Miles Feb 13, 2007 12:20 PM

You must be too far from the telephone company to hit 8 megs or something. All the DSL ISPs in my area won't put you on a high plan like that if you're too far away to get them. =\

It's only supposed to be a 1 meg connection, so these results aren't too bad. We're paying £14.99 per month for it, but the advantage is that it is genuinely uncapped. No matter how much we use it, we don't get the "bad boy" letter as long as we avoid downloading stuff at peak times.

I have had it around 5-6 down before today, but that only happens once every so often.

And now it seems to be getting worse :(

This was taken with a dozen torrents going, a large download in Firefox, and some USENET business in the background. Better than I expected, actually. Running about $45 a month.

As far as I know, that will be about the level of contention. There's a maximum level of contention guaranteed on BT Wholesale ADSL packages, but it is 50/1 which means that on an 8 meg connection, the most you are guaranteed is 163kb/s or about 20 KB per second. Sucks, doesn't it?

Normally your connection won't be anything like that bad, but that's all that is guaranteed.

the internet alone is about 45$can(~38$us) but we have a big package for the digital cable TV, internet and the digital phone service, we get all that for about 115$can(~98$us)

49.99% Comcast.

Supposed to be 10megs, but yea there is "issues" with the lines in my neighborhood.

BIGWORM Feb 13, 2007 05:41 PM

Pfft. I remember my friend was paying for the 8mb, and he was getting half that speed and Comcast gave him some bullshit about "Our advertised speeds aren't guaranteed" and pretty much refused to send a technician. He's VERY computer saavy (A+ OS/Hardware, CCNA), so he had done everything he could at his end. After much complaints, Comcast decided to finally send out a technician some 3 MONTHS LATER!!!

YeOldeButchere Feb 13, 2007 06:20 PM

I like how the speed I get varies from location to location. The Montreal server gives me something like 1600kb/s, the Toronto one about 3000kb/s and the New York one roughly 4200kb/s. And I'm in Montreal.

Inhert Feb 13, 2007 09:55 PM

yeah apparently the montreal server suck because here with new york i have more the double in download...

http://www.speedtest.net/result/86103978.png

oh and they seem to have take out the montreal test... or I don't see it in the list anymore...
