ripping of MP3's thread?

I forget who was the original author of the thread entitled How to make the best-sounding best-quality MP3s!, but if you are wnating to re-create it... the last version I have was when I did a cut-n-paste into an LJ-entry for someone who was wanting to get that kind of info back on 9 December 2005. If you are interested let me know...

That person was Moguta. I actually saved a HTML file of the thread, but it's really old (Last edited by Moguta on Jun 29, 2003 at 4:48 AM)

here's the old version if anyone is interested

this is where I had the last update I could find... if someone wants to bother trying to translate from HTML to vB code enjoy. I'm too lazy to deal with it ^_~

Guide for Encoding CDs into *Supa-High Quality* - this was updated last apparently on 4 October 2005.

EDIT: this one seems to be the same version as the one posted up at SlightlyDark

Any idea why foobar2000 0.9 won't use Id3v2 ASCII as opposed to Unicode tags? Unicode and UTF-8 tags are unreadable on my current CD/Mp3 player.

I don't know about foobar2000 v0.9b, but I know that in foobar2000 v0.83b, under Components -> ID3v2 tag support, there is the option to write as ISO-8859-1 rather than UTF16. As far as I know, ISO-8859-1 and ASCII are analogous.

Just out of curiosity, what MP3/CD player do you use?

I don't know if any of you have spotted This already, but it's pretty much what Moguta did. All credit goes to him of course.

Yeah, I use ASCII tags in 0.8.3, but in 0.9 that option is absent, I have to use an ID3 tag utility to change the Unicode tags to ASCII.

How about just sticking with foobar 0.8.3 instead of 0.9? After all 0.8.3 is still the recommended version as far as I know.
