ChocoJournal Bugs/Features

Post any bugs you find or feature ideas here.

KNOWN BUGS:
 • All graphic pie charts for Journal Statistics.
 • Error messages. (Will be added in soon).

peeack Mar 17, 2006 08:14 PM

Also a few things still missing, the 'who am I a buddy of' feature was kinda useful. Mostly for journals and what have you.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, I couldn't see a feature to change thet comment order from newest first oldest last to oldest first. I rather the other way personally, not sure about everyone else. Unless I just didn't see the option somewhere.

One last thing, the 'banned from journal' message is throwing up an error.

It gives a similar error when trying to access a journal that's not been activated.

The time listings are not pulling the proper timing. They're all GMT+0.

It's not March 18th yet over here.

Turbo Mar 17, 2006 08:41 PM

I'd like to be able to show comments from earliest to latest instead of most recent being at the top.

Megalith Mar 17, 2006 08:45 PM

I like how you can't even upload a banner image.

My bad. It was because the filesize was the size of Earth.

I think it would be pretty cool if the "Recent Comments" links linked directly to that entries comments. It can sometimes get confusing, especially when the comments are on old entries, and this would just simplify it.

Little Shithead Mar 18, 2006 12:20 AM

You can't set a custom name for your comments.

Anything you type in is not treated as lower-case letters.

Jay Fox R.W.S. Mar 18, 2006 06:50 AM

My old chocojournal seems to be permanently disabled (old profile link). When I tick the ChocoJournal Active box and save, it remains disabled.

Eleo Mar 18, 2006 07:26 AM

The one feature I felt should always be there is a quote button under every comment. Sometimes you just want to reply specifically to another comment,.

BlueMikey Mar 18, 2006 03:08 PM

It looks like the total journal views on the front page is misreporting:

Quote:

Total Journal Views: 1,320,608

Kilroy Mar 19, 2006 03:47 AM

A reply box in the buttom would be neat. Plus the ability to "switch" comment views. Old comments in the top, new in the buttom. I like that.

Scarletdeath Mar 19, 2006 10:08 PM

I suppose this should be mentioned here:

There is no link to a user's chocojournal through their username next to their posts. No links in their profiles as well. Can this be fixed?

Stealth Mar 19, 2006 10:22 PM

Inverted journal comments.

galen Mar 20, 2006 04:09 AM

On users with no avatar (or a blocked avatar) it displays a link to "Suchandsuch's profile" which is ugly and unnecessary.

Acro-nym Mar 21, 2006 06:44 PM

Earlier, I tried adding an image to the banner, but it resulted in a similar error message as to the one mentioned by Peeack.

Matt Mar 21, 2006 10:02 PM

On users with no Chocojournal, this error comes up:

Quote:

$membername does not have a journal or has disabled his/her journal. Stop trying.
Just wanted to point out that that variable is missing a parameter...orsomethin......

Scarletdeath Mar 22, 2006 05:33 AM

I'm requesting for a "Last 100 entries" in chronological order to be included in the journals system. This makes things easier when trying to keep track of the latest entries, only to find them gone 5 entries later.

Really, this would make my life alot more easier in there. So please?

Wait, 100 might be a little absurd, so maybe 50 latest entries?

I don't know about you but I just cracked up laughing.

Oh, and I can't delete comments from my journal. It keeps giving me a white page with a "A technical problem has been encountered, and an e-mail has been dispatched to the site administrator." messages. CAN WE FIX IT?

galen Mar 24, 2006 02:26 AM

I would like to have the option to ban logged out users from viewing the journals back.

Nevermind, I was incorrectly listing the numbers. (using commas)

Yeah, this would be good. There's been loads of times where I've gone to the journals and spotted a few of the most recent ones that interested me, only to forget to open any one I go to in a new window, and then finding all the rest have been bumped off when I navigate back to the main journal index.

Though, as the man said, 100 might be going overboard.

Edit: Oh yes, I mentioned it in another thread, but it would be helpful to see how many comments each entry has on the 'most recent buddy entries' screen, to see at a glance if any conversations in those journals have advanced since you last checked.

Infernal Monkey Mar 26, 2006 02:28 AM

Any chance of a 'preview entry' option or something? Would anyone else even care about this? =o

Maybe you could make it work like thread previews, just by hovering the mouse over the title.

Bigblah Mar 26, 2006 03:23 AM

I think what Infernal Monkey means is to preview your own new entries before you submit them.

Sarag Mar 26, 2006 04:10 AM

on the 'ten recent comments made in ____s journal" page on the front page, can you make links to the comments themselves rather than the person's journal?

Even linking to the entry comment page in question would be nice, since some of us comment on entries over two hours old (!).

BlueMikey Mar 26, 2006 08:16 PM

It would be nice to be able to sort your buddies again. It used to do this automatically when you went to the Add/Remove Buddy/Ignore List thing in the User CP, but, now, it just leaves them (on the ChocoJournal page) in the same order they were entered in.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 28, 2006 11:26 PM

To expand on this request, could we get the "View All" option back? Its the only way I know of to quickly back-up journals. (Which I would like to do regularly).

I would love you guys for it so much. <3

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 29, 2006 07:16 AM

There used to be handy link to view new comments in your own journal. Can we have that back please (Or can someone point it out to me if it's already there).

Moon Mar 29, 2006 11:03 AM

A cool feature would be the ability to set a message that people banned from your journal read on trying to view your journal. The hilarity from this feature would be the size of Xbox, IF NOT BIGGER.

When trying to access a journal that doesn't exist, like this one, you get $membername does not have a journal, instead of the actual member name. Just thought you'd like to know. :)

BlueMikey Apr 9, 2006 10:23 PM

When a person has a private entry and people comment in it, a record of that comment shows up on Last Commented Journals. You can't see it, it is protected in that way, but you can certainly see if there is action in a private journal entry.

Grawl Apr 12, 2006 10:20 AM

When I want to post, I get the error - Could not find phrase 'xcjsubjecterror'.

Fjordor Apr 12, 2006 02:18 PM

Try to reduce the length of your title.
I got that when I made my "bakabaka" entry. I had to cut it down a lot.

pompadork Apr 21, 2006 12:12 AM

If you comment twice in a row in an entry and it forces the "additional comment" thing, if you use quotation marks it doesn't display them and shows $&quot or something weird.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Apr 21, 2006 10:10 AM

I also tried deleting a comment of mine last night from a journal, and I still get that database error.

Maybe its me - wasn't that resolved? I forget~

Sarag May 15, 2006 01:50 AM

Bobo, did you break something recently? I was replying to a journal entry, and instead of "" my text had ".

Bobo doesn't even pay Gamingforce a visit once in a week, so how could he break anything by doing it like this? The forum continuously destroys itself.

Sarag May 16, 2006 12:52 AM

Was it always like this? I never noticed anything before.

I poked it and it made a sad sound May 16, 2006 09:55 AM

Hey dudes. I have no idea if this is a scripting error in the comments of journals, but recently, on some of the entries I've come acrosss (including my own and most recently, Shin's) you click on the link for the comments and get a blank page. Sometimes 404 error according to LeHah, but I know I get just a blank, white page.

Can anyone tell me if I am going insane, if this can be fixed, or what?

Thanks~

BlueMikey May 16, 2006 09:45 PM

If you refresh, does the page show as normal?

I haven't encountered this yet and I can't reproduce it.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss May 17, 2006 12:26 PM

There's a link in the thread I created here in Board Support (That Styphon rightly locked as Sass had mentioned it here).

I support russ's theory that Fyodor did it.

Fjordor May 19, 2006 05:35 PM

Hey, here is a hopefully simple request:
Can the number of characters allowed for use in the mood box be extended? Perhaps to 15 or 20 characters, or just long enough to allow usage of any of GFF's smilies?

Lady Miyomi May 30, 2006 11:22 PM

The only problem now is when someone makes a private entry, the title of it appears in their profile. Can this be fixed? The same problem is with comments of private entries. People can see the comments being made, but they can't see the entry.

pompadork Jun 2, 2006 10:38 AM

Could you maybe limit the number of entries someone can make per day? As cool as it is cooling at 13 entries by Spatula a day...

I poked it and it made a sad sound Jun 2, 2006 11:44 AM

I will NEVER understand your point about this.

The journals are there so you can write whatever you want, whenever you want. There's already a 1-hour limit. I don't see what you have against someone making an entry every hour for 24 hours.

You can just ignore it, like the rest of us.

Peter Jun 8, 2006 11:26 AM

Just a small note: by using the "20 last comments made by User x" future, you can also acces the comment section of private entries. Although you're not able to go back to the actual private entry, I remember this being fixed on the old boards.

Interrobang Jul 1, 2006 04:59 PM

bobo hasn't accounted for the "Last 20 comments" in regards to private journal entry comments. For example, clicking the Women Are Proof That God Hates Man comment listed in Bradylama's last 20 comments leads to the comment section of one of LeHah's private entries.

That looks like a missing phrase message. I'll look into it, should be fixable without any changes to the journal code itself.

Edit: Should be fixed now.

nazpyro Aug 8, 2006 10:11 PM

El Ray Fernando suggested this feature a few months ago, but it didn't seem to get noticed. Not that me posting it will get it noticed, but poll options in the chocojournal would be neato. Kthx.

FatsDomino Aug 9, 2006 08:07 AM

Yeah, that does sound neat. But it would have to be done neatly inside the entry somehow.

Sarag Aug 17, 2006 02:16 AM

Don't know if it was already addressed, but when you run up against your limit for max props per day, the error message doesn't display properly. It - here, I'll just show you.

Yeah, I fixed the code. Turns out it wasn't the error phrase.

Infernal Monkey Aug 17, 2006 08:29 AM

Oh yeah, I came across a really serious internet destroying bug tonight. Better step back for this one!

See like, if you type any old title in liiike

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...entrycool1.png

And then preview the entry

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...entrycool2.png
Everyone's A-OK thumbs up!

BUT, if you put little THINGIES either side of your title like so

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...entrycool3.png

And you preview the entry..

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...entrycool4.png

THE TITLE HAS VANISHED! What a horrible crisis! One could simply copy and paste it back, but this would require maybe two or three more seconds of effort!

nazpyro Aug 17, 2006 09:12 AM

There's also a fun little bug when you put HTML-style comments in the journal entry and don't close it, e.g.

Journal Entry:
Code:

blah blah blah
<!--
la la la

then preview or what-not. BAM! Buttons gone. The rest of the HTML for the page ends up in the journal entry box. :p

Sarag Aug 17, 2006 12:20 PM

Speaking of weird html, whenever I use quotes in comments they always get escaped out into &quot or something similar like that.

That should be fixed now. Also, the preview should no longer parse HTML tags in the title =p

packrat Sep 22, 2006 03:44 AM

Ok, this isn't just in Chocojournal, but in all all of the forums; I have noticed that there is a problem with text continuity. Basically, when I try to write a lot of continuous text, it automatically inserts a space in what seems to be random spots. For example, I was just trying to make a large matrix of ":dopey_love:" faces into the shape of the phrase "LOL," and it breaks the text up. What can be done about this travesty?

Also, in the spoilers is an example of what I had so far in my journal.
Spoiler:
:dopey_love:____________:dopey_love::dopey_love::d opey_love:
:dopey_love:___________:dopey_love:____:dopey_love :
:dopey_love:___________:dopey_love:____:dopey_love :
:dopey_love:___________:dopey_love:____:dopey_love :
:dopey_love:___________:dopey_love:____:dopey_love :
:dopey_love:___________:dopey_love:____:dopey_love :
:dopey_love::dopey_love::dopey_love::dopey_love:__ ____:dopey_love::dopey_love::dopey_love:

Thanks.

Little Shithead Sep 22, 2006 06:27 AM

It's actually every 50 characters that it inserts a space.

That's something that was actually implemented into the forums, but I can't remember why.

Bigblah Sep 22, 2006 06:48 AM

This is default vBulletin behaviour (ChocoJournal uses a lot of vB functions). The spaces are inserted to force word-wrapping; tables could easily be stretched otherwise.

vuigun Sep 22, 2006 07:21 AM

I'd like if there was a "recent private entries by buddies" section in the 'Member Journal' segment.

It would only show the most recent Private entry by one of your buddies. Just so more of your buddies would be able to know when you make a private entry (since it doesn't show up on the regular recent entry list).

RacinReaver Sep 22, 2006 11:50 AM

I think there's a maximum number of images you can have in one post which might be at fault for that.

I like how ChocoJournal is completely broken. Our buddy Merv has found a way to view and comment in entries despite being banned from the journal.

Bug fixing please.

Isthmus Nov 22, 2006 06:19 AM

When I 'try' to access a non-existent journal (like mine) via the 'Jump to Journal' thingy, I get "$membername does not have a journal or...". Not the actual user's name, but '$membername'.

blue Nov 29, 2006 05:02 PM

So, I was thinking it would kind of be nice to have another privacy setting on the journals... One where only you can see the entry. That may seem sort of pointless, but oftentimes I look at something I've written and think, "Eh, I don't really want this to be in view anymore, but I don't have the heart to delete it."

FatsDomino Nov 29, 2006 07:03 PM

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Super private entry! =)

THE POWER OF WATER Jan 5, 2007 02:51 AM

How about permalinks for journal comments? It can sorta be done through pagination by setting the number of comments to 1, but the comment that's displayed is different based on whether or not the viewer's journal comments display is set to newest->oldest or oldest->newest. In order to be able to link to specific comments in this journal entry for EVERYONE to see, I had to take screenshots of each one. :(

Along those lines, "Drafts" would be an excellent feature. Often times I want to write a post but don't have time to finish it. It'd be kickin' rad if I could save it for later.

Drex Jan 5, 2007 09:48 AM

I'd like the character limit for the mood section to be expanded a bit. I like to have a word and a smilie, but I've been forced to use small words so I can fit it in there.

The Wise Vivi Jan 6, 2007 05:30 PM

I agree. I am sometimes stuck trying to express while only having very limited space to do so.

Drex Feb 15, 2007 02:36 AM

Still angsty over the small character limit.

Also, as has been brought up by many members, the possibility of private entries showing up on the most recent list for buddies?

BlueMikey Feb 15, 2007 09:21 AM

Private entries show up on my Most Recent Buddy Entries page. You have to be their buddy for it to also show up.

Bigblah Feb 16, 2007 04:37 AM

Yeah, otherwise you could just add people to your buddy list in order to see their most recent private entries.

Drex Feb 16, 2007 09:04 AM

Sorry, I meant the journal front page - the right column. It's been a semi-heavily requested item to have private entries of buddies show up in the 10 Most Recent Entires Made section, because not everyone uses the most recent buddy entries bit.

Philia May 15, 2007 08:03 AM

Bigblah, I looked at "Who Quoted Me" in my main journal page and it linked me to the list of people who quoted and where/when in comments.

I like to if possible to reverse the order of WHEN in this quote comment section if possible.

But that's not the only thing.

There was a bug, Dubble quoted me but then he must had edited it and changed it to Miles' to be quoted instead. o.O

Nehmi Jul 20, 2007 06:34 PM

Here's a weird one. If you do the full number of characters for an entry title, then go back and change it, the title will end up getting cut off. I think it has something to do with the edit page not allowing as many characters in the title, since it won't even let me re-enter the full title as it was before.

Ok, I just made a private entry, then a public entry somewhat unrelated, but also to advertise that I'd made a private entry. The system merged the two entries together, and my public entry doesn't show up on the main page. Any way to fix this, short of waiting an hour to make the public entry?

Bigblah Sep 7, 2007 10:33 PM

I'll have to get the entry merger to ignore the previous entry if it's private. As well as some mechanism to prevent people from exploiting this to spam public entries.

It should be worth mentioning that I'm considering doing a complete rewrite of the journal code, though that won't happen for another month or two.

Hey, one more thing to de-bobo the place in case he comes roaring in here one of these days lookin' to put up a fight. Good thinking, Blah. =)

ChocoJournal 3 or whatever you decide to call it, would be pretty bitchin', I'll be honest. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff to be rewritten if you were to go from the ground up (which might be the best solution for some of the things in ChocoJournal.)

Sarag Sep 10, 2007 10:20 PM

of course it's the best solution. Bobo was as good of a coder as he was of a web designer.

just cuz you know how to use photoshop / google doesn't mean you know what you're doing.

I dunno if this has been reported (hard to search for), but the quote feature in ChocoJournal seems to leave out "\" characters.

See Dev's quote of my comment. Also hit quote on my comment and you see it didn't transfer the "\"s.

When I edit a post and submit the change, it brings me back to the first page of comments (first comments made) instead of to the page where my post was made (or to the most recent comments).

Looks like you are getting the message because your journal is deactivated, you can activate it on the User Options section of the CP.

Also fixed the $membername bug so it actually displays the member's name when you try to view an inactive journal, although I thought about leaving it for the sake of tradition. Two and a half years, never forget.

Dyesan Dec 16, 2008 12:46 AM

Oh, whoops, didn't realize you had to activate it. Thanks.

Lizardcommando Jan 4, 2009 03:02 PM

Is there a way to back up all the journal entries? You know, like being able to save them all into a seperate logfile or something? This is something I'd like to see implemented.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Jan 4, 2009 03:15 PM

Back-up is available in three (3) formats, located for your convenience on the Chocojournal homepage.

Lizardcommando Jan 4, 2009 04:25 PM

Oh cool. I had no idea about it. Thanks.

Not sure if this is known already, but the journal calendar's year selection is kinda limited in scope?

THE POWER OF WATER Mar 16, 2011 05:28 PM

People actually use that? How weird.

Anyway it's just a static list of years in the template (oh dear), so welp added two more. Your tax dollars at work.

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 16, 2011 05:37 PM

So I'm the only one who uses it, eh

Is that also why I can't get the props "links" on the gurnal front page to ever work, or is that just firetruck acting up?

THE POWER OF WATER Mar 16, 2011 06:07 PM

Actually, that one seems to be because the JavaScript code that was using seems not to be defined anywhere any more? Another "oh dear" seems appropriate right now.

Should work now. Or does it.

map car man words telling me to do things Jul 26, 2011 12:52 PM

I'm guessing it's thanks to the server switch thing, but the pie charts no longer show up because of a missing font

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...yGFF/error.jpg

Couldn't find where you could see a chart of your posting habits (or if it's even there anymore), but I'm guessing that wouldn't load either.

THE POWER OF WATER Dec 3, 2013 07:14 PM

I went ahead and added links to the timestamps in the prop timeline (click "x Props" in the Most Propped box on the journal front page), so that when someone like me is going back and propping your journal entries from four years ago, you can actually find out what the fuck those entries are.

By the way, laughing a lot at this:
