What's the name of that song?

Welcome back to the 'What's the name of that song?' thread, where you describe a song (by posting lyrics, sample of the song, etc.) that you don't know and your fellow GFF members try to help you figure out what it is. Make sure you give us as much info as you can so that we can help you out as much as possible.

I'll get things started with a song I don't know. It's the song that was used for The Shield season 5 promos that were shown before the season aired, and I also heard it towards the end of Smallville season 3 episode 8, "Shattered". It's lyrics are something like "I hurt myself today/To see if I still feel". The guy who sings it sounds familiar to me, but I can't pinpoint his voice (I probably feel stupid once I found out who it is).

No. Hard Pass. Apr 3, 2006 07:34 PM

It's Hurt. Either by Trent Reznor (NIN) or Johnny Cash (this should be the choice, as it is a superior song.)

Rockgamer Apr 3, 2006 09:03 PM

Yeah, I definitely think the version I heard was by Johnny Cash (I knew the voice sounded familiar). Thanks!

Arkhangelsk Apr 3, 2006 11:06 PM

Okay, I have one that's been bugging me -- but I don't think anyone outside of the Concert Hall will probably know it.

If you can recall the "Got Milk?" ads within the last two years, there was one that just had pictures of X-rays on the screen, coupled with a classical piece that sounded like a clarinet solo. I *loved* that solo (it could have been oboe, but I'm pretty sure it was clarinet), and I would like to know if it was a concerto movement or just a solo part in a larger piece.

I may or may not feel stupid about not knowing this...commercials tend to use rather overused, famous classical pieces. I probably should know this. But I don't.

S?ecter Apr 4, 2006 02:01 PM

Can't name that one, but does anyone know the name of the song from the credits of The Matrix: Revolutions? I like that song, but I can't figure out what it's called, anyone know?

GrimReaper Apr 5, 2006 03:31 PM

Does anyone know the piano solo that's used in the new (well kinda new) commercial? The one where they keep saying "it's here"

baconharvester Apr 6, 2006 12:59 AM

Song from Scrubs

Anyone know the name of this song and who it's by?

Rollins Apr 6, 2006 01:22 AM

Apparently it's: "Koyaanisqatsi" by Philip Glass.

Thank you mix of tv.com and wikipedia.

Btw, great episode.

"Hey Ted, you're giving sad eye."
"It's all I've got!"

I just saw the movie Doom last nite and even though it was some what dissapointing the occasional heavy rock guitar riffs and drums would kick in. Does anyone know if these were samples of full songs? Or were they just little rifsf put in to satisfy the action? If they are of full songs anyone know by who? I wasn't able to see the credits :(.

Dark Nation Apr 10, 2006 12:44 PM

Dammit. I totally did this earlier... but NOOO, no one wanted to ask THEN.

Oh well, its trivial.

lkaerus Apr 10, 2006 01:50 PM

Ok.. i have another. I was watching the Parent Trap (the new version with Lindsay Lohan) because my lil bro was watching it. And a song (nice acoustic guitar.. maybe classical) played when Halie had gone back to London and she was pulling up to her mother's home. Anyone know what it is?

jouhou Apr 12, 2006 07:01 PM

I'm looking for a specific song but it's not something you hear everyday. The type of songs I'm looking for is like a patriotic theme. For example, in the movie "Independence Day" they have "American" victory patriotic style music. These kinds of songs usually have trumpets and violins. Another movie that I can think of that uses this kind of music is the movie "Glory". I also think they used one or two of these kind of songs in the movie "Air Force One"

I konw some movies make their own music but I'm looking for the most commonly used songs. I mean there has to be a few songs that are used in multiple movies. Those are the ones I'm looking for. I would think that they're of classical genre.

Minoko Apr 13, 2006 04:13 AM

This one might be a bit hard....I was watching TV the other day and heard a song in a car commercial....Its a Nissan car...it features a yellow...mini-van(?) at the end it says...shift_fashion....and a girl walks of blowing a yellow buuble...The song in the backgrouns..i think was I just can`t get enough..but its a remix...I`m not sure is only here in Japan...Anybody know who did this remix?

EDIT:
got it already....the song is a remix of the old version of I just can't get enough arranged bt Vincent Clarke and sung by Nina Madhoo

EDIT:
errr..this is a bit harder...I heard this song in a shop....it was like some sort of club song..the type that seems as if the track hasn't changed....the only line I could hear was "I see the future in your eyes" and something like "take me away"....its sung by a woman..her style kinda remind me of Moony but the song's singer voice had a different sound...

jfhslvds Apr 27, 2006 10:34 AM

What's the name of that song?

Hey, don't know if this is the correct forum...

http://www.planetvids.com/html/Hot-Karate-Girl.html <--- It's definitely not porno, and it's pretty arguable if hot is the correct word, but anwyays, can someone name me the song played at the beginning (and perhaps throughout) of the video? I've had this song stuck in my head now for many many years and STILL can't name it.

Thanks!

Summonmaster Apr 27, 2006 10:54 AM

Sorry!
The backup "dancers" and the fancy kata make the video pretty neat to watch though.

naturally_tipsy Jun 1, 2006 10:31 PM

I usually go here:

http://www.letssingit.com

Very helpful if you know a line or two from the song, and can't wait until you get a response on the board as to what it is. ^_^. Be warned, however, the pop-ups can be kind of obnoxious if you're not blocking them.

Krelian Jun 8, 2006 11:26 AM

Hi - does anyone know the name of the song used in the ad for the new "chocolate" phone? Thanks.

Sian Jun 19, 2006 12:16 PM

This is the intro music to the Nightwish concert from their Once world tour, and i've been trying to find the full version of this clip.

It's called "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence".
The original is slow but it still sounds nice. Go to youtube.com and listen to it.
The techno mix is, "Watergate - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (Heart of Asia)"
But the version in the video changed it so it doesn't sound good.

I need to identify a song from the 60's but all i have is some lyrics.

"I walked through the 2nd door and found myself in Africa, I presume"

I tried the above link, but it could not find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bredow Jun 23, 2006 11:49 AM

i heard this song in mcdonalds yesterday, and the chorus over and voer goes "this is such a pain" Im pretty sure it's pain but im not positive. its kind of a sad emo song, but fast paced at the same time. i tried searching for just those lyrics but i couldnt find them. can anyone help me by telling me what the name of this song is?

Bredow Jun 25, 2006 08:42 PM

anyone?

Sarmoti Jun 25, 2006 09:21 PM

Okay, here's the deal.

I was going through some old home movies last week when I came across a tape of me, my siblings and my nephew goofing around with some digital music channels on our cable box.

At one point, we come across a goofy sounding song that sounds like it came out around the 50s/60s (I could tell cause it has that beach party-like guitar).

Thanks to the age of the tapes (over six years old this year), the audio is rather blurry so its kind of hard to understand just what is being said in the song but I was hoping someone might recognize it just by listening to the small snippet I have from the VHS.

link
(Drag & Drop or right-click save as if it doesn't work)

At one point, I think the words "We can run together" or "come on, come on" is said but thanks to either the VHS or the actual song age, it is almost next to impossible to distinguish.

Heck, for all I know this could've been playing on one of those Latin music channels so chances are good that I'll never know the name of the song.

Thanks in advance, even if it can't be identified and sorry for the totally useless backstory.

Lian_Kazairl Jul 14, 2006 08:57 PM

I think I asked about this piece way back in 2003 when I first joined the forums, but with everything restarted, I figure I might as well give it another try.

Here is the piece in question. It's from the video preview of Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy featured on the demo disc of the Official US Playstation Magazine, issue 56. What I'd like to know is where the music comes from since it certainly doesn't sound like anything Naughty Dog has used for the J&D series proper. Composer, album, track title...any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Terra Jul 24, 2006 09:09 AM

EDIT: Found them. Sort of.

goldeneye2131 Jul 24, 2006 07:13 PM

This hopefully should be pretty easy...the music in the game "The Sims" that plays when two sims are kissing...it sounds very familiar, and I'm just wondering if I'm losing my mind, or that is a part of another musical piece.

Thanks

Could it have been misheard?....the closest I can come up with is Africa by Toto..

Ok i remember sending this track for ID ages ago here in GFF and i will try it once more lol. I downloaded this from Kazaa (masters of corrupt files, etc) years ago and to this day i do not know where it is from. I mean it is titled "Across the Stars" and i do not know if it is an alternate theme of the famous Star Wars:AOTC OST or a piece of music from a totally different film/anime/game:D. But i posted it here in hopes that someone will be able to ID this beautiful piece of music.

GrimReaper Aug 7, 2006 05:05 PM

Can someone tell me what the name of the piano song is from the movie unleashed? It's the part where jet li plays a duet with the girl. Thanks in advanced. I've heard that song many times just don't know what it's called.

Manny Aver Aug 8, 2006 05:20 AM

The song played in Unleashed is "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" from the Habanera suite of the opera Carmen.

You can download it free from the sheet music archive .net, I'd post the URL but for some stupid reason I don't have enough posts to do so

GrimReaper Aug 8, 2006 06:44 AM

Thank you, Manny Aver!!!

I poked it and it made a sad sound Aug 8, 2006 11:27 AM

I believe you're looking at a Moody Blues song. Maybe Dr. Livingstone or one of the Four Door songs. You'd have to listen to them, though. I would offer up a link, but since I am at my workplace, I'd rather not get into it.

But the album "In Seach of the Lost Chord" was from the 60s, I think. (One of their better albums if you ask me.) You may want to check out their stuff and see if thats what you're looking for.

Its worth a listen eitherway.

Ive been trying to identify this tune and what game it comes from for a while and had no success whatsoever. I figured that the guys here at GFF may be of some help.

A friend of mine sent me this tune initially. He encountered it while playing in MUGEN (that freeware fighting game thingy that you can edit to add in any character/music/etc that you like). I attatched a screenshot of the stage in question that you hear it on in the game. I'm not for certain if that may be of any help, but I figured "what the hell would it hurt?"

Anyways - does anyone have ANY idea where this song comes from at all?

jouhou Aug 22, 2006 10:19 PM

Ok, here's one I need help with.
The Dell commercial with the custom laptop. White background, two guys sitting in a go-cart. You see the guy picking things, he chooses a CG gorilla, Einstein, music, etc. Then a guy stuffs the gorilla into the notebook and then stares at Einstein. What's the song played in the bg?

Maico Aug 25, 2006 06:50 PM

Can someone help me identify the song that is playing in the background of this movie? You can begin to hear the song in the background starting at the 0:59 mark, and the couple is just adorable, you'll enjoy watching. Here is a challenge!

I downloaded this from MP3.com like...seven years ago? Six? It's been awhile, anyway. I found it on a mixtape I made back then, and converted it to MP3 only I don't know who did it and I would like to!

GOOD LUCK.

I have a question about a piece of music. In Kingdom Hearts II, there's some beautiful piano music in the background during the introduction, when you're watching Sora's memories in static. I've downloaded every track listed on the soundtrack (like 70 of them!) and none of them are it. It's so pretty and sweet and I am dying to find it. If anyone can help me, that would be awesome. Thanks!

While I couldn't find the actual artist, I did find this.

It's got a list of artists who have covered that particular song, so atleast it's a start.

galen Sep 2, 2006 12:02 PM

Yeah, I had found that awhile ago. It's not among them, mostly because whoever made this wasn't a "mainstream" artist with any sort of record deal outside of self-publication.

Thanks for your help Rockgamer. It was the first time I ever heard that song, so I haven't gone crazy from listening to it yet.

I'm trying to track down another song. Maybe from the early 90's. I might have heard it in one of those teen romance comedy movies, and it plays sometimes on a radio station here that plays soft rock and love songs. I want to say it's a cover from the Cardigans, but using Google to search for the lyrics and all that has turned me up with nothing. Some of the lyrics as far as I can remember them are like "so true" ... "you know I'm just a fool for you" ... "and everything that you do" ... "all the time" yea... Damnit. Shit I've been having a bad time remembering things lately. I've included a clip with me humming parts of the tune if that might help.

Edit: 9/20/06 - Thanks to BigHairyFeet for identifying the song: The Cranberries - Linger.

Tawnee Van Pelt Sep 8, 2006 10:51 PM

It's a dance song, the chorus says "I'm on my way to find...." sung by a girl, the beat remembles "Lady" by Modjo. Thanks!

Minoko Sep 15, 2006 04:54 AM

Nope, that's not it. I previewed that song on Amazon and it's definitely not it. It didn't have an RnB vibe to it at all, and the singer is white as far as I can tell.

Oh, and it's not The O.C., it's from a movie called Orange County featuring Jack Black and Colin Hanks. :P I've never seen an episode of The O.C. in my life.

Check this IMDB soundtrack listing for that movie, it has 6 more tracks than the Amazon tracklist, perhaps it has the one you're looking for.

The music vid shows number of peoples (general public folk) and one guy breakdancing. Then its the usual hoes and rims.

It's a really neat recording that effectively captures the satire.

I've got a rather tricky one for you guys to help me try and figure out.

I've caught the very beginning(I'm fairly certain it's the opening) of a song on a classic rock station twice now.
Unfortunately, I was at work BOTH times, and I caught the exact same part of the song both times.

It starts out with a synthesizer of some kind playing eerie music like from some old B-movie zombie flick or something. REALLY cheesy "scary" music, ya know?
It's rather slow and repeats itself a few times.
Then, a guitar starts in playing the exact same tune as the synth.

Unfortunately, that's all I've ever heard, and it's driving me NUTS!
It's about 45 seconds of the song, I believe...

If no one here can figure it out, I won't be too surprised.
My dad is stumped, as are my friends on another forum.

Even if I could just find a clip of eerie music that matches the stuff at the beginning, that could be enough to help find out what it is...

magewarrior Jun 6, 2007 11:37 AM

Im searching for the name and artist of a particular song. I believe it was in the hip hop genre at the time, Im not sure. It was similar to black and white by Micheal Jackson, but not entirely, the "rapper" in this song was mentioning something about a dark coloured women and how she should break up with her white guy, because black doesnt mix with white or something, I believe the lyrics may have been repeated as "the colour of love" or "love is color" . It was on a clear cassette. I liked the overall funky beat to the song. If any1 can help, it would be well appreciated I know the song was made in the late 80's, maybe early 90's. Im pretty sure it had a distinct taste of old school in it. If you listened to music by Dino (romeo) in particular, it has kind of the same flow, but more hip hop. Hope this helps.

i heard this song once in my prom limo. so i only kinda know only the main part. the chorus is basically composed of mostly the same two notes.
its sung by a male voice. sounds a little like the killers. (but better)
its kinda in the trance~ish genre cuz i know another song i heard in the limo was "Kill 4 Love" by Dj Ramon Zerano.

i dont know how else to show u guys how it sounds so i created a midi.

id greatly appreciate it if some1 here can identify it.

thanks a lot

I'll venture Journey - Separate Ways, but the synth and guitar don't play for 45 sec, more like 25. And I wouldn't consider it zombie music either but it's a shot.

Anyone help me out here? I heard a tune from the new VW commercial. It plays at the very end, and it plays only one line. I forgot the line already. But if I catch it again I'll write it here. For that matter, any song played in the VW commercials are superb, so if anyone knows the songs it would be great to write it down here as well. Thanks in advance.

EB64 Jun 28, 2007 05:24 AM

Nope. Not Separate Ways.

The tune of the opening stuff is very similar to the very very beginning of the Ghostbusters Theme. The part before the actual song comes in and there's that evil laugh and such.
Biggest difference is the one I'm looking for is slower, the notes are drawn out, and it repeats.

You don't think it would get more, and more knowledgable attention in Audio Requests?

knkwzrd Nov 21, 2007 09:26 PM

Well, it might get more people asking things that nobody would ever know, but I seriously doubt it would get more answers.

I really don't care either way though.

Rockgamer Nov 21, 2007 09:47 PM

I read this thread all the time as well, I just never post anything because I never know what the song is. I listen to most of the songs people post, but I just don't know them most of the time.

I honestly don't know if moving it would help, but I guess it couldn't hurt. I'll try to help by keeping a list of pending requests in the first post, so they'll all be in one place. Maybe that'll encourage more people to help.

EDIT: After looking through the thread, it seems there are a lot of unanswered requests, and many of them have expired Sendspace/Rapidshare links. For now I'll just try to keep the most recent requests in the first post (like from the last few months).

It's not that song but that song is in that episode near the end, this one plays in throughout the episode but you dont really notice it that much since theres not much singing. The point you do notice it is arround 41:43. It's pretty much the part where Sarah says "ZOMG it's Bryce" and Bryce kinda gasps.

VERY IMPORTANT HELP NEEDED LOOK HERE

I received this song a little while ago, but it wasn't titled properly and the lyrics aren't getting any results on Google. Despite that, I know it was a fairly mainstream 90s white boy rap song, so I'm hoping someone here has at least heard it. Here are some (excerpted) lyrics:

everybody's looking for a devil in me...

tell me who's a devil, tell me who's a devil...

he shouts out "devil" and points his finger at me

(Chorus) Oh my God there's a devil in me (x3)

Here comes a devil comin' 'round that bend...

The devil gets bigger and we can't control its fury

Alright that's enough lyrics. If you know the song your memory is jogged. Thanks if anyone can help, and extra thanks if you don't make fun of me for liking such a lame song.

knkwzrd Apr 27, 2008 10:02 PM

I've never heard that song before, and I have no idea who it's by. I really don't think it's a mainstream 90s whiteboy rap song, though. Those usually stayed away from saying "motherfucker" more than once in a song, didn't use a live band as a backing track, and generally weren't about religion.

LZ Apr 28, 2008 12:00 AM

Damn :/ Could have sworn I heard it more than a few times while growing up.

EDIT: Okay, I found it. The song is called "Devil in Me" by The Circle Six, a DC-area local band that was a little bit famous around here for a while, which explains why I thought it was popular. Thanks knk for your time.

It depends where you live! In America it seems to be called "The Flea Waltz", while here in England it's "Chopsticks". According to Der Flohwalzer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia there are many other alternative names for it across the world. In Japan, apparently: "I Stepped On The Cat".

It was featured on season 5 "So You Think You Can Dance".
The lyrics goes something like this: put “your left foot to the left, put your left foot to the right, shake it up to the twist”.

Its a electronic song.
I've tried googling for the lyrics to find the song, but didn't have any luck. Can somebody please help?

So You Think You Can Dance (season 5) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take your pick. If you remember WHO danced to it, you could probably decipher it pretty easily from the list.

Hey Chaotic.

When the dancers perform, the show usually display what songs they dance to.
The song that I'm talking about have been used serveral times - usually during clips between the dancers or when the show shows a compilation of other dancers. In a clip of the song that was very long, I managed to write down parts of the lyrics.
So that's all I have. I need someone who's very good at searching songs, just based on fragments of a song text.

Hi guys. I hope someone is still looking at this threat once in a while.

I made some digging in my HD tonight and found a folder full of unidentified songs. I played through each of them and there were not so many significant rediscoveries. Except this one song. It is very well composed. Being a prog fan, I'm enticed by the meter change and modulation that the song has. I have no idea who this guy is, beside the fact that he sounds like 100% authentic Jrock singer.

I feel like there's an empty hole inside whenever this happens. I'm very serious about finding new means of discovering music. Not being able to remember the identity of the song means not being able to remember its source and how I found it. It reminds me of there's always something good out there that I'm missing right now.

Anyway! The Data Created date says "December 27th 2005." It means a few months after I joined GF. It must have some connection with this forum. GF veteran and Jrock experts, please help me.

I thank you in advance for all the future effort.
