SuperSonic Jul 5, 2007 02:16 PM

Sounds like fun, count me in on this. :D Ah, the days when hockey didn't have strikes.

BucPride Jul 5, 2007 02:39 PM

I'm definitely down for this. I remember playing this one oh so long ago.

Dopefish Jul 5, 2007 02:54 PM

I just added one thing to the requirements list: AIM, or something comparable. That will make it 100x easier to coordinate games.

Additional Spam:
So far I've had test runs against SuperSonic and BucPride. After annihilating BucPride (BOS 8-1 TB; in fairness, he was using a keyboard), SuperSonic went 2-0 on me before I came back in quick fashion to beat him (CHI 3-2 LA).

In case anyone is curious before the league gets going, here is the list of teams by overall rating, with their top player(s) listed and their rating, and the person who picked that team:

Chicago Blackhawks: 78 (Ed Belfour, G - 98) - The Dopefish

I'll get you next time, Gadget! Next time!

Dopefish Jul 5, 2007 10:50 PM

In other news, I think I found a way to get more than 2 people in the game at once. I doubt it, though.

nuttyturnip Jul 6, 2007 07:39 AM

I wouldn't mind giving this a try. I'll have to download the emulator and rom first, and get used the Genesis control scheme, since I used to play on the SNES.

Seeing how the Genesis controller has 3 buttons instead of 4, I think that shouldn't take long.

No. Hard Pass. Jul 7, 2007 01:08 PM

I'm in, and I call Bruins. I'll test you on the AIM some evening this week, DF.

Wojo Jul 7, 2007 01:13 PM

I've been a tad busy Dope thats why I havent got a chance to test. I call Pens btw.

I'll get on AIM sometime tomorrow.

No. Hard Pass. Jul 7, 2007 01:16 PM

You know, if it wasn't utter suicide, I'd play the Whale.

BucPride Jul 7, 2007 02:35 PM

Well, since we're calling teams, I'll take the Calgary. I'd love to take the Lightning, but then again, I want to win a few games.

Dopefish Jul 7, 2007 06:25 PM

I wasn't really expecting to call teams quite yet, but I guess I'll play along and pick the Blackhawks.

No. Hard Pass. Jul 7, 2007 06:31 PM

Also, Mogilny 96 LOLOLOLOLOLO I remember 94.

nuttyturnip Jul 7, 2007 07:23 PM

Got the rom and emulator downloaded, and everything seems to work (haven't tested multiplayer yet). I'll call Quebec, since Joe Sakic is relatively awesome and the Pens are already taken.

BlueMikey Jul 7, 2007 07:26 PM

Ooh, I'm in. I'll test it later tonight if anyone on IRC wants to play. I haven't played in a LONG ass time, so I'm sure I'll be extremely rusty.

And I'll take the Coyotes Jets.

_DH_ Jul 7, 2007 08:38 PM

I'll give it a go. Put me down as the Caps for now.

Dopefish Jul 7, 2007 08:56 PM

Alright, since people seem to be getting interested in this, and since I can't be around all the time, I'll leave it to you guys to coordinate test games with each other. I'll give you some directions so you can easily get a game going.
  1. First and foremost, make sure your NHL 94 ROM is named "NHL 94.bin" as to avoid any potential conflicts in Kaillera.
  2. Make sure your NHL 94 ROM is in the same directory as Gens.
  3. If this is your first time using Gens, make sure that your controls and everything else is set as you would like it to be.
  4. Open Gens if it isn't already.
  5. Open the NHL 94 ROM first, and make sure your copy works. (The EA Sports splash should come up.) Close the ROM (under the File menu), but not the program, right after.
  6. Under the File menu, go to Netplay. Find a server that is low-pinging enough for both players. Pick a nickname both of you will recognize as the other player, set your connection type to Good (20 keyframes/sec) and connect.
  7. One player should decide to set up a match. Click "Create New Game" and pick NHL 94 out of the alphabetical dropdown menus.
  8. Once both players are connected and ready, click Start. The game should go along as if you were sitting in front of the TV. Both players can control the menu, so if you're the "visiting" player, try not to fiddle around until it is time to pick your team. Remember the rules that will be used in the league: 5 minute periods, manual goalie, penalties on except offsides, no line changes. If you want to play around otherwise, go ahead!
  9. Once you've both gotten some gameplay in, shoot me a PM to let me know you've successfully completed a test.

Signups will be taken until the end of Tuesday, July 17.

Render Jul 7, 2007 09:16 PM

Detroit!

I guess I'm a little late to the party. Busy with other things. :( I'll try and set up a test game later tonight!

SuperSonic Jul 7, 2007 09:25 PM

I call the Los Angeles Kings. Gretzky and Robitaille are gonna pwn you!!

No. Hard Pass. Jul 7, 2007 09:40 PM

Manual goalie? Fuck. I'm so boned.

Dopefish Jul 7, 2007 09:52 PM

You don't HAVE to use the manual goalie. :p

Wojo and Render, I need your AIM screennames.

I see what you did there.

Confirming involvement, because NHL 94 is badass. Also, if not me, you might possibly have to deal with BZ playing as the Sabres, and I don't wish that upon anyone.

Also seconding a big "fuck you" to manual goalie, because who is that hardcore (and/or suicidal) to play that way.
