Daily Art thread
I am bored, lets drawing something each day and post them here. I don't care if you think you are no good, it doesn't have to be good, just make a good use of a single page of paper/or digital canvas and post there here. We'll have a little chat on theme as we go, but just post whatever doodle you made "today". :3

Thanks Gunblade, glad you like it. Hopefully the guy I'm doing the pic for will like it as much.
Today: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...otplanning.jpg Just trying to rough out ideas. Looking good there Magi. That 4/15 entry has some great action and looks very polished. What specifically are you doing different this time with regards to coloring? Do you usually do an underpainting? |

Kewl...Somehow I just can't seem to think of creating a pic in PS and make it look like those.
Just a question (it might sound stupid) Is scanning a sketch with a scanner better that taking a picture of a drawing? Also the name of the thread reminded me of a artist's website this dude has some nice sketches..click here if your interested |

This is turning more and more into "Magi's daily art thread", but it's delightful to watch nonetheless. :D
As Krelian pointed out before, the sword guy looks great. Any influences? Looks very much like a character that could appear in the Fire Emblem series. I also like the concept of the girl with the raven(?) cloak. Great stuff Magi, keep it up! |
that, is raven from teen titans, hahaha

Thanatos: Hey Thanks. :'D
Quote:
Thanks, the guy is a character that I have been trying to develop over time. :< There are a lot of different influences. (Its the same character that is like hanging out with that girl). As Thanatos said, the girl with raven cloak is from Teen Titans. I am doing a little bit of my own spin on the character. :3 And thanks for the compliment. :3 |
hahaha, don't worry about it, i'll join in with my sketches, once my exams are done.
|
Cool, looking forward to it. :3
I am working on the raven image, I am tempted to call this completed, but I really don't want to. I also need to do a little more study on the details and background. So I am adding details as I do more study, right on the piece to try to save some time. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...tudy_60607.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...607_detail.jpg Another Fancy Mel pic. :3 Its more of a sketch. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...fancy_mel5.jpg |

Heheh, I am looking forward to it.

That Zbrush is amazing it seems... Is that just for creating still images, or could you take that into some kind of 3-d program like Maya and actually animate it? Regardless it's amazing work. I have seen kids work on animations in Maya for weeks that aren't even close to that detailed, but then again they can animate the character... Still awesome work! Another question for Meth and Magi, do you use photoshop and some kind of pen and tablet to do the coloring or "digital painting"?
|
RagnarokX, Yeah zbrush works in 3D and a deal they call 2.5D which is kinda weird, but you can get some cool effects. You can use zbrush as a modeling program and export models as .obj files which can be opened in Maya and Max to be rigged an animated.
I use a Wacom Intuos 2 that I've had for a few years. It's been great so far. It took me a bit to get used to. At first, I would only use it to color, but i've since gotten the hang of drawing digitally as well. It makes for a quick workflow since it's so easy to erase. I also use the tablet for zbrushing. Now that I'm done with school, I'm thinking about setting aside some cash and upgrading to a Wacom Cintiq. |
Meth, the model is really looking good so far. very exrpessive too. :o Zbrush is certainly very nice for those organic detail isn't it? O.o;; It would be fun to see the full character animated.
As for the question. I use OpenCanvas and a junkie brand tablet, it works. <.<;; |
The wacom tablets are pretty expensive when you are looking at the higher end models. I would love to get one eventually. As for you Magi whatever you are using works really well for you. I still think one of my favorite creations of yours was the Wise Vivi... I think that was the name. Very lose style, but sometimes that works a lot better than tight renderings. So both of you are really good. I'll upload some of my work on here sometime although most of it is pencil.

RagnarokX, nice work. Gotta a great sense of value.
I'd suggest grabbing an Intuos 3 if you can scrape up the cash. I think they're about 300 for the 8x6. Or there's always the Graphire for just over a hundred bucks (I think). It doesn't have the same real estate or pressure sensitivity, but it's still pretty good and it's portable. |
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...f/bangbang.jpg
Bang bang. @Magi - I switched over to DA after xchange died but I guess that was a few years ago. I also didnt feel like posting here since it seemed to die a lot, reregistering is a pain. Now I kinda just troll the VG forums >_>; _____ If you're good at maya and you havent tried zbrush but you'd like to I suggest Mudbox. Its much more maya user friendly. |
Wow, I forgot how good you were (even better now). I was thinking of a different person entirely for some reason.
|
I have a Intuos3 9x12 and I swear it was worth every penny. Vista just makes it god awful to tolerate though since every five seconds it corrupts my drivers. >:\/
(Can't wait for MacBook Pro-chan) |
Wow Immp that's pretty sweet, is that almost looks like a straight up painting. Did you do that with the computer or by hand?
|
Loving that Model you made in Zbrush meth. I've tried Zbrush and it is easier to model out characters there since its like molding clay but I still had not much success in it since I still need practice in it.
Immp, awesome Dante. Ever since Creators cafe slowed down haven't seen much of ur art so its good too see that you still have some great skills. |

This is something I created my freshmen year at college using Maya using only nurbs, supposedly polygons are much better for creating detailed animations. I swear I know about 4% of that program and I was able make this. We had to come up with a theme and recreate a room, so I made Bag End... kinda

hahaha That's awesome. Question for you Magi. Did you go to any kind of college or are those talents of yours self taught. I'm guessing you have had an interest in this kind of stuff for a while now eh?
|
Well, I have been interested in the sequential story telling for a while now, about a couple of years. I do study art in college. In many ways it helped me a lot, although I still have to work a lot.
|
ah manga awesome ^^
I tried out open canvas but the trial ran out before I could do some finishing touches to the last pic. My rough outlines are a mess so I envy those with a clean outlining abilities *_* Anyways this is the last pic open canvas allowed me to almost finish up. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/Exiq/tiff.jpg Tifa :3333: |
Hey, that's pretty nice. :3 Although there isn't a very clear light source throughout, its a pretty good looking image. :3

Yeah I use a tablet now.
I just scrabble all around the screen and create whatever i can and then I just create a new layer to make a cleaner outline. Spoiler:
|
Although proportion and structure can use some work, I like the line quality of that one. :3
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...beringtime.jpg |
Very nice Magi. Always good to have a girl with a gigantic fist kickin ass!
As for Shenlon I would agree with Magi on the light source, but sometimes you go for that effect. To me it has a very air brushy feel to it. That's just me of course, still pretty sweet! |

Slow and steady there Magi. I know what a pain Maya can be. The most simple things can take forever, if you wanna do things properly. Looks like you're getting the hang of it though.
Here's something I did earlier today for a friend. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...jatheninja.jpg |
its not Maya, >w< Its actually a 3D software that I am more familiar with called Anim8or. :< I can't do much in Maya At the moment.

|
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...setup_test.jpg
Testing a 4 lights setup, it took approximately 5 minutes to render this, its a long time for such a small image. Anim8or does not have radiosity like rendering mechanism, so I'll have to "fake it". Parts of it looks somewhat convincing while most part don't, the back wall for example. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...setup_test.jpg A 5 Light setup, took a bout 6 minutes now. Using a shapes to cover up parts of a local lights within the room. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t_corridor.jpg Another 5 lights setup, used a couple of different shapes to "contain" the lights and control their directions. It looks very different without the soft shadows. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._2006/duke.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...tone_giant.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...tree_giant.jpg |

A digital postcard i made for my uncle:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ogPostcard.jpg |
Finished render of my first project in dynamics. No keyframing, except for passive/active rigid bodies. The dropping of the trap after the box falls in the well is kind of a bit delayed, but I can live with it cause I don't want to render this shit again. Ever. My PC wasn't made for this crap. |
Nice. How long did it took to render? Although rendering over days and weeks isn't uncommon, do you really need radiosity and reflections? How much polygon can you cut down etc. :o
|
Quote:
And yeah, I do need radiosity and reflections... I was going for making realistic metal and a smooth polished stone for the floor for the reflections. After all, it was for a school project. If I was just dicking around with dynamics I'd have never put this much effort into something like this. As for poly count, I'd say it was pretty barebones to begin with. There were probably a few places I could have cut down, but really it wasn't my intent since this is supposed to be a kind of portfolio piece. And, as a personal thing, I usually don't care about my poly count to begin with. I use as many as I need to get the desired result--Granted, I'm not saying I'm just tossing bevels and extrudes everywhere, cause that's just stupid. I'm just saying poly count isn't anywhere near my primary concern. |
8 hours isn't very long. >.>; Granted that for most of us, that's a long time while you are awake to not being able to use the computer, but its not like its rendering for 3 days around the clock. We get that a lot at the end of semester when everybody is doing their final projects in the animation lab.
