"On August 6th 2006, the international internet service provider known as American Online (AOL) took it upon themselves to release to the public domain an archive of their customers search habits over a period of 3 months. None of their customers were asked for their consent prior to the release of this data, which has resulted in international outrage from the public."

The most serious problem is the fact that many people often searchon their own name, or those of their friends and family, to see whatinformation is available about them on the net. Combine these egosearches with porn queries and you have a serious embarrassment.Combine them with “buy ecstasy” and you have evidence of a crime.Combine it with an address, social security number, etc., and you havean identity theft waiting to happen. The possibilities are endless."

AOL is really scraping the bottom of the barrel these days.

So, let's say I know someone on AOL. Where do I go to check and see if their search habits were revealed?

* The searches included as part of this data only included U.S. searches conducted within the AOL client software.

Indeed. The best and most used search engine is google, as it should be. The only AOL thing I use is AIM, which I barely use anymore. On topic though, thats pretty shitty by AOL, but who expects great service from them?

slightly off topic, but i did put some of my aliases on google. and they all 4 out of 5 come up in 2+ pages of result (all MY stuff). guess there isn't any annonyminity anymore....

Good. I hope they get sued to the point where they go bankrupt, but still, its American Online, so thats a lot of money that would have to go away. :X

I always hated AOL. Serves them right, honestly. :P That's why I never trust AOL's search engines. The only AOL thing I use (And VERY rarely, mind you.) is AOL Instant Messenger.

Google is actually WAY better than any search engine in the past, Yahoo Search being second best.

I honestly can't believe that people still bother getting aol. I don't know why people don't realize that there are chatrooms outside of aol and they're easily as annoying.

I'm just happy I can use AOL ISP without using the shitty program -

I'm glad I can check my stupid AOL-email-address without using the shitty program either.

The program itself is not even on my computer ;)
