Your Latest Media Purchase (DVD/CD etc)

Since the board is reborn..

What was the latest media-related product you purchased? Music (CD's/Vinyls), Movies (VHS/DVD/UMD etc) and related things is what counts! No games or computer hardware in here. It's great if you could write a little description about it too.

Myself, I bought the Directors Cut version of the korean movie "A Bittersweet Life" yesterday. It comes in a lovely paper cover, and inside is a digipack with two discs. It's an import from Korea, and it wasn't cheap, costed me about $35. Here's a picture on it:

(lovely movie by the way)

Your turn!

I ordered the compilation "Radio Malaya" through the mail a few weeks back, saved all of 60 cents from the in-store price (although the fact that it wasn't scheduled to be in stores 'till this month did play a part in my decision). A compilation of Malaysian underground guitar-rock acts, although the vast majority are more on the "indie pop" side of the fence. Still some absolute scorchers (= "hard and fast" tracks) on the album though.

Overall, very good, and paying RM19.30 for it (RM15 for the CD, the rest for stamps and the cost of express delivery and such) was more than worth it.

I recently bought the CD "The Downward Spiral" by Nine Inch Nails, and I actually like it. The lyrics aren't very good, but the music itself is interesting and well done.

Downward Spiral is a great album - but avoid anything after that. A lot of bands just shit the bed after a specific album (Smashing Pumpkings sucked after Mellon Collie, etc) and you'd best avoid anything past "Downward..."

Today, I'm gonna go pick up James Horner's The New World and preorder MGS3: Sustinence

I recently aquired the Indiana Jones Box Set.
Awesome stuff =D

I also bought Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
The plot and the acting may have been a bit thin, but overall it was just one of those great sunday night retro 'classic' style movies. Love it =D

I guess I'll count books as well. They ARE a form of media after all.

There was a clearance sale, and I bought 5 new books:
- Matthew Reilly's Scarecrow
- Thomas Harris' Silence of the Lambs
- Raymond Benson's The Man with the Red Tattoo (it's a James Bond novel)
- Tom Clancy's Net Force Explorers: Shadow of Honor
- Tom Clancy's Net Force Explorers: Duel Identity

Matthew Reilly's writing style is...interesting.
It's very informal and the pace is pretty quick.
That's what I got when reading Seven Ancient Wonders...
I haven't read any of his other well-known books like Ice Station or Temple, but I actually did enjoy Seven Ancient Wonders.
Scarecrow will be interesting once I get around to reading it.

I'm reading Ian Fleming's Goldfinger right now.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 3, 2006 02:14 PM

The movie THREADS, a BBC presentation on what a nuclear attack on England would be like. No sugarcoating, not much dialogue, and intensely emotional nonetheless.

The death toll, the aftermath of the bomb both shorterm and longterm are accounted for, and are all pretty fucking horrific. The crops go to hell, people scrape at the Earth to survive, and the next generation of babies born from babies are mutated thanks to the radioactivity that remains.

It's unbelievably realistic and cold - I have a hard time watching it and continuing with my every day life. Amazing what man can to do one another.

I recently bought the Strong Bad Email DVDs 1-4 and the Strong Bad Sings CD. That was the first DVD/CD purchase I had made in almost a year - in fact, the last CD I bought before that was Touched by the Crimson King.

Ah! Amoeba Mar 3, 2006 02:40 PM

Bought Lost season 1 DVD a couple weeks ago. I missed most of the show when it originally aired, so I figured it's time I get caught up. I ended up watching almost the entire season in two days. Just couldn't stop.

The only other media purchase I've made recently was The Residents' Animal Lover way back in January.

xman25 Mar 3, 2006 02:47 PM

I bought the soundtracks to 'Legend' by Jerry Goldsmith and 'Vertigo' by Bernard Herrmann. I bought both for $8. Goldsmith music was replaced by Tangerien Dream's music. I don't know why, Goldsmith's music is great. Herrmann did a great job (as usual) with 'Vertigo'.

Man, where to start....

DVD's

Collateral (2 disc special edition)
Family Guy Season 3
Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story
Lee Evans - XL Tour 2005 Live
Spiderman (2 disc special edition)
Die Hard & Die Hard 2 Double Pack (Special Edition)
That Peter Kay Thing (2 disc special edition)

Games

Burnout Revenge

I've been on a DVD spending spree over this past month, and I'm pretty pleased with some of the bargains I got. Out of all the DVD's that I've bought recently, Lee Evans has to be the best. The man is fucking hilarious.

I bought three CDs in one go, then came back for a vinyl.

CDs:
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Rachel Yamagata - Happenstance
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Vinyl LP:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F# A# (Infinity)

Have you ever walked out of a record store, then looked at the CDs you bought, and started feeling you were out to prove to someone that you had better taste then them? Check out my previous haul -

The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Joy Division - Closer
Fiona Apple - When the Pawn
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

and then, the next week, I grabbed

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O.

Like I said, lookin' like I got somethin' to prove.

I don't want to be a bitch or so, but there's usually a "Most Recent Purchase"-thread in the Gaming sections of GFF, so that's why.

Latest CD I purchased "Traditional & Drivin Country Music : Best of John Henry and the Steel Drivin Band"

John Henry Lacasse is my mothers cousin, he and my grandfather "hector" played music together back in the day, infact it was my grandfather who tought him how to play the guitar, anyways, John started up a band, that came to be known today as the steel drivin band, and started playing at clubs and so forth, here in Canada, he made a couple of albums with other bands before, but the steel drivin band was by far his most successful, hes trying to get back in the scene lately, so he's selling cds of his best hits here in Ottawa, he's not well known out of Canada, but just recently he was inducted into the Ottawa Valley Country Hall of Fame, so it might be a lift for his career, hes saving up enough to make it big, so his album hes currently workin on, will be in stores everywhere, atleast up here in Canada. His music is old country, and he has hits like "queen city lady", "look out world" "tenesee waltz" and "stardust lady" on his "best of" album. Im honestly not sure if he'll make it big, par se, but when he does, he'll probably have his newest album out in a store near you by 2008.

The last time I went to buy cds, which was about 2 weeks ago, I got:

Tenacious D
Red Hot Chili Pepper's Greatest Hits
Bad Religion- Generator.

I find them all to be really good CDs. Of course, Tenacious D is beastly, but I also really enjoy RHCP's greatest hits.

Already posted about the new games I bought recently in the gaming section's similar thread. However, I just got a bunch of comedy albums, iFUTURELIST and the soundtracks to Shadow the Hedgehog, Tales of Symphonia and The Legend of Zorro...

Not disappointed in the least, all are good selections. As are all the other CDs that have arrived since GFF went down. :)

Recently I bought lots of CDs in the United States, but those might be too familiar to you all, so this CD is the one that I bought in Japan.

http://www.excite.co.jp/music/store/song/4988002470693/

Koumi Hirose (広瀬香美) is one of the old singers in Japan, and she is also a great singer. She has a unique taste in her singing, so her fans vary a lot(not sure what I'm saying...)

Personally, I thought that this CD is one of her best album, so you might want to take a listen in the above page. You can click on the title (below 収録曲), and listen to it.

Scrubs, second season. And if you don't know what Scrubs is, shame on you.

I think I watched in all in one huge hours long marathon. I love Scrubs.

Last DVD: RENT Widescreen Special Edition (preordered from Amazon, $15, woo~)
Last CD: RENT OST.

...I'm a fan~ only of the movie so far, though. I haven't had the opportunity to see the stage musical. :/

Last three CDs before that were bought all at once; Kikaider the Animation OST, Fantastic Children OST, and SD Gundam Force OST+. The first was the one I looked forward to the most, but the last ended up being my favorite of the three. I love FC, but much of its music doesn't stand alone very well, to me at least. :o

Also, yes, Echo wins for choice of series-buying. :D
