This little beauty will be reopened once May comes along and Bungie officially announces the game. Don't get too excited, now.

HALO 3: MARCH 2007: CONFIRMED

Quote:

The next Halo is coming in March 2007. According to a Microsoft source who asked to remain anonymous and a second source close to the company, IGN today learned that Microsoft will publish the next Halo game (as predicted in January) in March 2007.

You can merge this with TubeRacer's thread if you wish.

Finally, I can play the real HALO 2.

Spatula Mar 30, 2006 10:56 PM

I want you to post every single update here and in your journal, so when the time comes in 2007, "Earth will be the same".

In other news, I never played either Halos. ;_;

Mobius One Mar 30, 2006 11:16 PM

Is Microsoft trying to compete with MGS4 (also rumored for early 2007)? They will fail.

Also, the latest Game Informer says that both Microsoft and Bungie deny that Halo 3 even exists, and that Bill Gates had to recant his statement that it was on its way. What is this Phantom.

El Ray Fernando Mar 30, 2006 11:19 PM

If they had it ready for the upcoming christmas holidays the 360's would have been flying off the shelves, but alas seems like we will have to wait close to a year.

I can just imagine Megalith being like that kid in the N64 video when he recieves his copy of Halo 3.

I'm sure that if you were making a game which could either make or break your system, you would not want to reveal any details to the public till you had everything sorted out.

Elixir Mar 30, 2006 11:28 PM

Great, except for the fact that's only a year away.

I wonder how much hype will go down between now and then.

Spatula Mar 30, 2006 11:30 PM

I remember reading sometime that Microsoft wanted to launch Halo 3 the exact date the PS3 was supposed to come out. This was quite a while ago, I think during Summer 2005 when they (when I say they, I mean Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) had all these grand schemes to second guess each company's move.

Quote:

Time quotes Bill Gates saying that Sony's next-gen console will "walk into" the Xbox 360 follow-up to the best-selling sci-fi shooter.
For months, the Web was rife with rumors that Microsoft would ship the sequel to Halo 2 for the Xbox 360 simultaneously with the launch of the PlayStation 3. Now, that has been confirmed--by none other than Bill Gates himself.

In next week's issue of Time Magazine--which features Gates holding the Xbox 360 on the cover--Gates mentioned plans for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to the best-selling console shooter. In a parenthetical sidebar in the article, Time says the following:

"Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. 'It's perfect,' Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. 'The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.'"

While Microsoft reps were not available for comment as of press time, Gates' comments appear to confirm the theory that Microsoft will release Halo 3 either simultaneously or near the release of Sony's next-gen console. It also marks further official confirmation that a third Halo is indeed in the works and will be released for the Xbox 360.

Although such statements might be interpreted as grandstanding, such a maneuver definitely would have an impact. Halo 2 sold more than 6.5 million copies to date and is credited with doubling the subscriber base of Xbox Live from around 750,000 to more than 1.5 million. It is also credited by industry-watchers as one of the main reasons for boosting sales of the original Xbox last holiday season.

Ah there it is. But then this is LAST May information.

Plus since we assume the PS3 is out this November, it looks like it's not going to happen.

Of course Bill Gates could slap the devs and say 'hurry up bitch PS3 is commin'.

But it is highly unlikely from a current lack of 'anything' from Bungie, that Halo 3 could meet a Novemeber launch.

Eleo Mar 30, 2006 11:59 PM

I like seeing Megalith already hyped.

A year is a long time. Why even announce it. So much time for pushbacks, too. It's merely an average action game, anyway, so any excitement I'm feeling is the anticipation of Megalith being sorely disappointed and comedy ensuing.

Spatula Mar 31, 2006 12:01 AM

Even if H3 got out say...November whenever. Sony still has FFXII up their sleeves as in terms of console games vs console games only. FF fanboys vs Halo fanboys FIGHT! Plus how exactly will Halo 3 "hurt" PS3 sales? It's not like a Sony consumer will all assuden say, "Oh cool Halo 3 is out today. Maybe I should go hell with the PS3 and pick up Xbox 360 AND Halo 3 instead".

Clearly, Microsoft consumers will pick up their copies of Halo 3, while Sony picks up either PS3 or FFXII or both.

I smell seconds being served of Humble Pie.

Mmm =d

I'm not looking forward to it terribly much, I must say. Halo 1 was okay. Halo 2 was okay. I don't buy into the hype or the monstrous acclaim.

I think you'd be surprised the effect 1 game can have.

More to the point, who in the hell would by a PS3 to play FFXII when you can play it on your PS2?

Just games only, which was why I raised the issue of FF fanatics vs Halo fanatics. FIGHT OF THE CENTURY. LOL.

Furthermore, remember this is ASSUMING that H3 is released in November, which was pointed out earlier to be unlikely.

silvervalkyrie Mar 31, 2006 12:22 AM

I'll be waiting March 2007. Until then the waits for Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 2007 are still on...

"The Earth will remain the Same".

It very well could convince a consumer that doesn't have any particular Sony or Microsoft preference.

"Should I go for the PS3, with all crap games, or Xbox 360, with Halo 3?"

Not only that, but the Xbox 360 should be actually availible by the time this holiday season rolls around, while the PS3 is almost definately going to have major shortage problems unless Sony decides to not be retarded. Microsoft has the potential to fully kick Sony's ass this holiday season if they don't get their act together.

And then, of course, there's the Revolution, which could come out of NOWHERE and beat down everybody's asses. If Nintendo is smart they'll make a bajillion systems for the holiday season, launch at $200, and market up the wazoo about the system's price point and similar graphics capabilities, as well as the unique possibilities of the controller.

But since this is about Halo 3, I'm just gonna say that I hope Bungie doesn't have that loading textures during the cutscene crap from Halo 2. That shit got old fast.

Tube Mar 31, 2006 12:29 AM

Let's hope they actually start making the game earlier than six months before release like last time.

Spatula Mar 31, 2006 12:36 AM

True, at least the 360 has had a solid year on the market to show what you can get for the admission price, while I hear most of Sony's 1st gen stuff has lots of bugs. Still for myself, I'll hold off on it. As well, seeing as Sony wants to do a simultaneous launch of however many systems obviously requires major logistics considerations, which may be difficult to follow through, where as the launch of a software title (ie Halo 3) has considerably less implications.

WraithTwo Mar 31, 2006 01:06 AM

I smell April Fools, I've heard that IGN has pulled there pranks a few days in the past before. Although I wouldn't be too surprised if this was real either, as it doesn't really say or mean much right now.

Elixir Mar 31, 2006 01:09 AM

IGN pulling pranks? I thought that was EGM #2.

Oh well, the more they stall Halo 3 the better it'll get. I'm horrible with the second analog stick on the original Halo so I hope they fix the calibration.

Tube Mar 31, 2006 01:11 AM

And they hope you fix your dexterity. Guess nobody will get anywhere.

That's because there is no Halo 3. There is however "Forerunner", which is the development name for the next game in the universe/storyline Halo was part of. So they might change it to Halo 3, or some totally different name, or keep it as Forerunner...who knows, they can call it whatever they like.

But anyway, I wouldn't put much stock in this "An insider source from Microsoft" stuff. Until they release an official date, I wouldn't count on the game being released at a specific day/month/year. Bungie will work on it until they think it's done. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get an official date until around the time the PS3 is released, but depending on how close it is to complete they might announce something at E3.

DSan Mar 31, 2006 05:02 AM

Down at my local GameStop, they have a poster of 'Halo 3 - Extermination'. I'll snap a picture of it tomorrow when I am there.

IGN claims this is real information? That's possible. Then again, tomorrow is April 1st. While Halo and Halo 2 are excellent games (the first one for story and innovation, the second for it's online aspects), how can Halo 3 compete with Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy, & the new Tom Clancy game? Sure, it'll be one hell of a FPS... but still.

You'd think he'd never care about Halo again.

No, deep down Megalith LOVES Halo. He just hates looking like an idiotic ass after his Halo 2 antics. He's a true fanboy.
