Counter-Strike Source

I'd like to know some other people that play CSS. What server do you play on, what name do you use, fave guns, etc...

Name: |FF|S?ecter
Clan: |FF|(friendly fire)
Server: |FF|custom maps and italy
Fave Stock Map: cs_compound
Fave Custom Map: 007_temple
Fave Gun: AK-47 or MP5
Fave Team: Only Terrorist, never, ever, CT, ever!
Tactics/Comments: I like playing quickly, I hate camping, I'm not great at CS, but I play it for fun. I usually rush, and I never use grenades. I HATE flashers, awpers, and idiots who use the n00bcannon(autoshotgun). It also pisses me off when people are really cocky just because they can kill people with the awp(oooohhhhh...) and act like they're the best, even though they suck the second they are forced to use another gun. Anyways, I'm FAR from hardcore, totally unobsessed(lol), and only really play for the fun of things. I really would like to know some other people that play though.

By the way, for those of you who haven't met me yet, I'm Helloween's cousin, I'm 17, the name's Dave. Hope to have a good stay here.

Jay Fox R.W.S. Mar 7, 2006 12:07 PM

I played quite a lot of CounterStrike Source before Christmas. The server I almost always join is IGN Gaming Assault Urban 24/7 (217.146.92.81:27025).

I try not to use it too much, but I love the weapon dubbed "auto-snipe". I forget the actual name. There isn't much point in swapping usernames, as Steam's friend list feature still doesn't work yet.

Gr|M Mar 7, 2006 05:29 PM

I was a huge CS and CS Source player but I stopped playing after this christmas . I was so addicted lol. But occasionally I get the urge. I've played without stopping since 8th grade and I'm a sophomore now lol so it was time to stop wow.

These are the reasons you will never go beyond CAL-O.

I gave CS:S it's fair chance I guess. I played for a couple months and desperately tried to get the feeling of it, but in the end it was nowhere near 1.6. I guess I just like the old school feeling and simplicity or something.

S?ecter Mar 7, 2006 09:47 PM

CAL-O?

Anyways, yeah, IRT the Autosniper guy, it's the Sig 550 for the CT's and the g3sg1 for the Terrorists, my actual favourite gun in real life.

If anyone's looking for a good custom maps server, the |FF|Custom Maps and Italy server is great...

cs_italy
007_complex
007_temple
aim_ag_texture_jungle
aim_ag_texture_2
aim_ag_texture_5
fy_payday
some random others, those are the most played...

Dinner Mar 8, 2006 06:51 PM

I just bought CS:S the other day, haven't really played enough to decide which are my favs. SO far though it's pretty fun. But, for somereason it'll freeze and kind of "reset" kind of like a form of lag, but not at the same time lol. (Happens evern when playing with only bots. Anyways, I usually play by the name of Dinner, or Dinner_Time, something along those lines.

S?ecter Mar 12, 2006 02:01 PM

Yeah, Hl2.exe has a lot of problems, all my source games crash, DoD: S being the most frequent. Counter-Strike seems to only crash when I'm playing high detail levels, like de_nuke with HDR and the like.

My computer is really good, and can easily handle HDR, making it a shame that the game crashes so often. If I want visual stimuli I usually resort to games like F.E.A.R., which I can run at full settings...

Basically if you do well on TWL or something, you might try CAL-O to get an invite to CAL-I. Flashers, nades, all that perfected here.

Dyesan Mar 13, 2006 10:36 PM

Not everyone plays for CAL-O ranking. I play for fun, but I find alot of CS:S pub servers are filled with newbies, so I tend to join the Cal-o servers. GF should have our own server...

nazpyro Mar 14, 2006 02:50 AM

I played CS:S a lot, but only really for that fall and winter when HL2 came out. I haven't played it much since, but it would be fun to start that up again. Though I have more of an itch for Starcraft lately.

Elixir Mar 14, 2006 03:01 AM

I still play 1.6, but all of the maps are horribly flawed.

Nobody bothers to defuse a bomb if there's a 1v1 finale left, everybody just fakes it and waits for the terrorists to come running.

Assault is horribly flawed too. All terrorists camp in the house, spam the vents, cover the front and back door, and never go out. Oh and then you have at least one terrorist camp up the ladder of the vents.

Militia is basically a map which everybody jumps on terrorist for. They camp on the roof with awps, and other people cover the drains.

Inferno is also an awp map, I don't know why people pug on it.

Since 1.5 was cancelled, people have stopped using aztec. This is a good thing, because people shouldn't of played this map at all. It's basically an awp map as well.

Nuke is terrible to pug on. If the teams are unbalanced you're going to find terrorists planting under almost always and win every time.

Dust2 is flawed. Any map where terrorists can awp anywhere around the ct spawn shouldn't be taken seriously.

So, uh, yeah. I'd probably play 1.6 with headphones and take it seriously if it wasn't for these moronic 32 bit teenage nerds that cluster around my internet cafe thinking that they're cool, with their ipods and backwards caps, knifing newbies like it's a global achievement.

Wait a minute, what makes you think that the maps are supposed to be balanced? In a terrorist situation will the maps be evenly geared towards terrorists and CT's? NO. The point of Counter-Strike is usually for the terrorists to defend and the CT's to assault them, requiring the CT's to plan well and work in an organized manner, like REAL CT's. Counter-Terrorists have to deal with anything Terrorists have to throw at them. This is also why CT's get better weapons, which usually outgun the terrorist equivalent. In de_ maps, the point is for the terrorists to plant a bomb, and the CT"s have to stop them. IRT the comment about Dust_2, CT's wouldn't be hanging around their entry point for long in reality, they'd be trying to find and defuse the bomb in an environment that the terrorists are more familiar with. In cs_ maps the CT's have to rescue hostages, meaning that the terrorists are DEFENDING the hostages, and would most likely pick a well defendable position. IRT all the awp comments, this is something both teams would have to deal with aswell, you think there aren't snipers in real situations on both sides, which would pick off enemies from a distance, sending the team into chaos and disarray? This is something that you have to DEAL with, and if you plan correctly and know what you're doing you can diffuse any AWP threat, hell I've taken out AWPers with a mac10 before, you just have to know what you're doing.

So yeah, the maps needn't be balanced, it's not a deathmatch game like UT or Quake, it's an assault based Counter-Terrorist vs. Terrorist game, which tries to mimic real situations.[now I said real situations, not always reality, because, lets face it, sometimes you can shotgun a guy in the face twice and he doesn't even slow down...] That being said, stop complaining...

That's why people awp on maps which are intended for terrorists not to camp but to plant or rush? And what about iceworld and bloodstrike, which have no objective at all. That's a counter-strike approach to a deathmatch.

How do ct's get better guns? They get the M4. Right. And their auto sniper is shit compared to the terrorist one. How does one gun justify it as balanced?

That being said, wallhacking and pretending that you're not; back in the day of 1.5 was awesome. If people still took this game seriously it might be different, but if it isn't for hackers or screeners nobody would play anymore.

That's another problem with public servers, you never can tell when somebody's hacking. And people get the thought "Well, they are hacking, so why can't I?" and it never ends.

I've taken out an awper with a glock before, and it isn't a matter of what you're doing. Sure, there's an awper behind the box in t spawn of dd2, you're going a long with a team mate, they kill him, you check behind the double doors, run along the wall, jump out with a glock and pow. That isn't knowing what you're doing, that's purely based on aim. And if they're hacking, it is REAL difficult to tell when they're awping constantly.

You can also silent plant on nuke, train, dust2, inferno and a bunch of other maps. That isn't balanced either. But hey, it really doesn't matter. You can't expect any online multiplayer game to be balanced.

Iceworld and bloodstrike are both custom made maps, not made by valve, and not intended for the game, so using them in a statement makes that a moot point.

Also, you said something about only the m4 being better, the TMP is MUCH better than the mac10, the USP is WAY the hell better than the glock, and the famas is better than the galil[using burst shot, it's amazing].

I already said it wasn't balanced before, and that that isn't the point...

In Counter-Strike: Source, VAC has pretty much eliminated hacking, and if you play in a non-vac server, you play at your own risk...

Glock takes skill, yes, and it also has burst fire. Why does it matter if the TMP is better than the mac and the famas being better than the galil? NOBODY bothers to use those guns when it comes to a serious match. That's about as stupid as somebody using an mp5 in a tourney.

Obviously you've never been pwned by a serious mp5er, I know people who will only use smgs and kick everyone elses asses. You don't need to only use m4a1/ak47/snipers to be good, some people can clean everyones clock with nothing but a deagle... Also, IRT the galil and mac10 thing, I often use the galil when I'm short on cash, or if I'm just rushing in an enclosed level, same with the mac10. Running around corners and just going berserk with the mac10 can score you some serious kills, but when it comes down to mac10/TMP the TMP is more powerful and accurate, plus it looks cooler, .

Also, who said everyone who plays CS plays in tournaments/serious matches? The beauty of CS is that you can just jump in and play, and jump out just as fast, no commitment required. Now this doesn't mean that all the stuff I've said about realism doesn't matter, because being a recreational game doesn't have to make it an unrealistic/shitty game.

The Friend list actually works now? That's awesome, I always have a hard time finding my friends in counter-strike...

So far I told my friends to join servers on IM, but this is probably a better way.

Not to derail the thread - but has anyone tried Day Of Defeat Source? I was a big, big fan of it for HL but haven't gotten it yet. Some people are telling me it's not what it use to be.

Anyone have any comments?

Elixir Mar 17, 2006 12:40 PM

S?ecter, no offense, but do you die alot?

I find that alot of casual counter strike players seem to just rush ahead, or are extra cautious in their play. Like the kind you see standing there, at the first exit of the original dust map, waiting for backup, because he doesn't want to go in alone. Or the kind which rush in and die over and over and wonder why.

I think counter strike is pretty unbalanced due to hacks. If people didn't hack at all, and everybody knew for a fact that everybody else didn't hack, there would be no worries. Even people in clans hack, and that's pretty freaking sad.

Usually you find serious tournaments/LAN parties where nobody is hacking, but that is getting rare. If you're in a tournament or something like that, usually the competition is pretty tough, and if nobody's hacking it still doesn't matter since they might as well be - for how good they are.

I also hear using headphones helps. I had some headphones back in the day but I didn't really notice a difference. What do you think? I ended up returning mine, they were $35 and I consider that quite high for a gaming enhancement/accessory.

Before I forget, I should mention that what's been said has been concerning 1.6, not source. Source doesn't really mix well with me, everything feels so soft and different. The guns have a cute feel, everything feels more basic. That was probably valve's intention though.

The graphics are better, yes, but you lose the feel when you've got Call of Duty 2 right there. At least, that's the impression I got.

Lol, no offense taken, I do tend to rush/die quite a bit, but when I'm in a serious mood I don't rush as much and I do really well. [You might not believe this, but I've been 40-2 on a serious server with actually good people, it all depends what map and how intensly I'm playing]

When I was talking about hax I meant in Source, cause there are like no hackers anymore, and if there are, they don't get caught and are good at hiding it.

IRT the headphones thing...I don't like using headphones, feels just too claustrophobic then, and the whole reason people do better with them is because you can hear from which side you're being shot at or from which side someone is coming. I have a pretty good speaker system so I wouldn't see any benefit of using headphones. The only time I'm using headphones is when I have my headset on, then usualy I set it to play the sound through my speakers anyways.

IRT the Source comment about cuteness...

I think that it's ok, I really enjoy it still, but I find that I suddenly hate all the gun skins and sounds, I always download new skins and sounds for my guns. Right now I only have 2 default skins for guns, the mp5 and the ak47, as I like the ak-47 the way it is, and there are no good mp5 replacements. I also feel that there are lots of problems which weren't as bad in 1.6, such as the whole problem with shooting someone in the head 4 times, then they kill you, and it says you didn't hit them!:aargh: I HATE it when that happens... All of this is most likely, as you said, Valves attempt to clean up the game, and failing in standard Valve format. The one thing that I LOVE about CS:S is how the maps are so detailed, and the HDR lighting, it all makes it feel a little bit more realistic, and it all just looks so good!

IRT the DoD:S comment by LeHah...

I LOVE Day of Defeat: Source, it is totally worth buying. I even like it more than Counter-Strike: Source to tell you the truth. The feel of the game is so great, and for WWII enthusiasts it's a good time! The guns are great, the classes are great, the maps are great, and it's nothing but fun!!! If you're debating getting this game, stop debating and get it!

Are there any differences between the original and Source? I heard that some things got "balanced" which may prove to my disliking.
