Kids and YOU

So, do you have kids? Ha, don`t expect many of you here to. The average age here wouldn`t allow it, and that`s probably for the best.

For the most part I like kids. I just hate the way they overreact and their occasional loudness. But they can be cute little bastards and it`s nice to see a human being that has yet to be crushed by the world. Say whatever you want on the topic.

These are two of the most recent pictures of my kids. My son`s over four years old now, and my daughter will be two in November. They`re my bugs. They`re pretty bad webcam pics, but they`re all I have.

Damn, my son needs a haircut. He`s too young to have long hair like his pa, makes him look too girly at that age.

I really like children, but I'm also really intimidated by the impact we have upon them. As they see us for their role-models until they are usually teenagers, they will study and react upon everything we do in front of them. Hell, what would happen if children saw my resume? What if they saw me posting nonsense on the board? Oof. I'm not ready to have children yet, but someday, maybe in my thirties.

Edit: October, you have some beautiful children. I'm sure they'll grow up right.

Thanks guy. I`d knock a few years off my life just to get to hold my daughter for fifteen minutes. If things can work themselves out, maybe one of these days.

I don't have a child, but my mom has been taking care of my cousin since he was a month old and I've been helping her the whole time. He's a little over four now and is ridiculously cute. He can be a pain sometimes, but, for the most part, he's a wonderful little kid. I hope my kids will be as cool as him.

I plan on having kids someday, though I'll probably end up adopting due to a few health problems that work against my conceiving and carrying a baby. I get kind of nervous when I think about being a mom, though, because being around children really makes me feel overwhelmed. Of course, I'm only nineteen and it will probably be different with my own children plus I'll be much older when I have kids and probably more patient. Also, my baby cousin who comes over once a week doesn't frazzle me, so that leaves me hopeful about raising my own someday.

I really don't want to have kids. Me and younger children -- especially young girls -- just don't... jive. I'm okay with 6-10 year-olds, but babies are an absolute no. In the future (since many of my friends have told me "Oh, you'll change your mind") if I wanted kids, I would adopt. The way I see it, there's enough fucking people in this world, and enough kids that don't have anyone (because somebody was stupid enough to have them) so I don't need to make any contribution of my own.

starslight Sep 13, 2006 08:00 PM

Never. I don't ever want that kind of responsibility, I don't like children, and I'm not really interested in having a family. Lots of respect for good parents, though - raising children seems like the hardest thing in the world.

I work with kids almost everyday so obviously, I don't totally hate them. Just when you run across that one kid who has the worse manners and attitude that comes from shoddy upbringing, that's when I just want to knock some sense into them.

But I don't think I have the energy to keep up with them. Which is hilarious since I'm only 19. I'm lazy :(

Unas Sep 14, 2006 03:27 AM

Truth be told i'm only 20, I don't know what I want for dinner today, never mind if I want kids, i'm sure I will someday but not for the forseeable future!

Nahual Sep 14, 2006 12:48 PM

I want kids. The bad thing is that I'll probably be more of a friend then a parent...
I love my niece. She's 3. But she's so much to handle at times. But it's all groovy baby.

Krelian Sep 14, 2006 12:59 PM

I'm infertile.

Luckily enough, I didn't want kids anyway - Even before I was told this.

surasshu Sep 14, 2006 03:25 PM

Your daughter is called Nes? =o Those are gorgeous little kids.

I want kids someday--before I'm thirty, but after I established my business and have a steady income. Two, maybe three.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Sep 14, 2006 04:25 PM

No, her name`s Vanessa. The mother named those files. Son`s called Vincent.

Alice Sep 14, 2006 04:28 PM

I have three children, and they are my life. I always said I never wanted kids, but the instant I found out I was pregnant with my first child I fell in love with her. After I had my first child, I realized it was my mission in life to be a mother. I believe that's the reason I was put on this Earth. I'm a great mother and I'm not modest about it. I can't imagine not having children.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Sep 14, 2006 04:33 PM

Ha, that`s true. It was a false call, but before me Lenore thought she was pregnant by this Mexican/Italian and treated him like shit and threatened abortion, though probably falsely.

Bernard Black Sep 14, 2006 05:20 PM

I've never been the maternal sort, and even if I was, I doubt I could be a good mother. Also I imagine labour is possibly the worst pain I could ever experience. So yeah, that (followed by screaming, messy, attention-demanding children) sounds like a whole lot of fun.

vuigun Sep 14, 2006 05:22 PM

I don't really know.

Everyone wants kids in their adorable, cute, innocent stage (like Puppies!!!) but when they grow up it would be even more trouble.

Especially having to deal with Teenagers of today's generation.

Lee-chan Sep 14, 2006 07:38 PM

For a long time, I'd have thought along the lines of "I don't want kids because they're loud/annoying/insert trait here". They're something I simply don't have the patience for.

But then I got to the point where I thought seriously about parenthood. Both of my parents were absent, and their substitution was rather crap. I know firsthand what bad parenting is like, and as a result, sentiments such as "I want kids just because I want a family" and "having kids would be fun, wouldn't it? Let's go"... or even "we need someone to continue the family name". IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. It's about the new additions to the world - or the one(s) you've claimed responsibility for. That a great percentage of mothers are popping 'em out when they really shouldn't be. That leads to kids being raised in all kinds of environments they shouldn't be raised in, which can lead to some lasting problems.

Right now, the reason I don't want kids is because I don't have the resources for them. I couldn't put up what I think would be needed to be a good parent. I think if a lot more people would realistically make such an assessment before being/getting someone knocked up, the world would be a bit better off.

Sorry, that's something I needed to rant about.

Kids was always something that was like, "oh yeah maybe one day". Well my one day is already here and slowly going, and I'm not feeling that desire to have kids. I feel like I don't know want to give up anything for them, I'm sure if I suddenly became pregnant and had children I'd do anything for them, but I want to have kids because I wanted them, not like oops.. well I have no choice now. But I also don't want to regret it in 20 years and go thinking, man I wish I had kids. But that isn't a good reason either to have children.

So I'm kind of just going along with it. If that desire never comes, then maybe I'll just never have children. I sort of hope that if I ultimately ended up with kids, I would rather have them sooner rather than later. But it's not really working right now :p

It's too bad because all aspects of my life is stable right now. Everyone in our neighbourhood is wondering what is going on with us. We have the perfect set up to have children, but we're totally content with our dog.

Vigilius Sep 16, 2006 02:44 AM

I hate it whenever people say that they just want kids because they're cute...
These people don't really give me the impression of having a genuinely good idea of what it's like to have kids or why people are happy having kids...
For me, even though I at the moment won't consider having kids, I think it kind of depends on having a partner who already loves you for who you are and then thinking about what to do with it.
I like to consider kids more like offspring than "pets" (something you get just because it's cute) like some people think, it's about having someone live a life of their own of whom you're a part, like how you're a decent part of their identity in more than just a conseptual/empirical relation.

(I hope I didn't offend anyone by saying this.)

Domino Sep 16, 2006 10:17 AM

I can't stand kids. Always screaming and whining. And that's just the teenagers ;)

Soluzar Sep 16, 2006 10:35 AM

I have no idea. I'm currently in the first actual stable relationship of my life, so I've never really had any reason to think about such things. The concept of fathering a child with any of the other women who i've dated is laughable in the extreme.

Even though I'm in the kind of a relationship where it seems that such a thing might be viable, I'm still not sure whether either of us would want to, though. We've touched on the subject, but only lightly. I think it would be a few years before either of us are ready, even if we decide that we'd like to.

tommboi Sep 17, 2006 01:51 AM

i hate kids. whenever i visit my friends house his cousins are always there and they're so god damn annoying. i'd never have children unless my spouse wanted to and for sure i would raise my kid the right way.
