Which famous people have you met?

So... I was sitting here at work - and I overhear someone say "I wish I had brought my camera, I can't believe Rob Lowe is here!"

So I take a quick peak to see who they're looking at, and sure enough, Rob Lowe is sitting on a bench, just a few feet in front of me. The girl he was with came up to me and asked about when a plane was landing (unfortunatly I couldn't help her out with that one). I brought them to the pilot's lounge, to make sure that they wouldn't be hasseled. He's a really really nice guy turns out.

Anyways, I see the plane he was waiting for taxi onto the ramp, so I go out and greet it - and who do I see jump out of the pilot's seat? None other then Kenny G. And he wasn't annoying at all - a really nice guy as well actually.

All that just happened maybe an hour ago... But I've also met Paul Coffee (NHL hall of famer), and some big-name bollywood stars that did a performance here in toronto (I was told that it would be comparable to meeting U2, or The Rolling Stones in terms of thier popularity).

So which famous people have you met?

Hello_Kitty Jul 29, 2006 10:11 AM

two years ago i met those guys :

http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/344...zzzzwn6.th.jpg

they are very famous in france, Shirley and Dino

We were in front of a theatre (real theatre) and they were looking at it probably thinking they will be doing a show there soon
My friend said to them "aren't you on TV or something ?" and he said "yeah sometimes ..."

the thing is didn't know them at that time, and now, well i don't really care :D

and that's it...

Free.User Jul 29, 2006 10:17 AM

I'd say the most famous person I have ever met was Martin O'Donnell, composer for the HALO series. I shook his hand and received his autograph. Some lesser-known people I have met include Tommy Tallarico, Gerard Marino, and Jack Wall.

WraithTwo Jul 29, 2006 10:19 AM

The only one I can think of is Stan Lee. I met him at a Comic convention about ten years ago, talked with him for a bit, then got a picture and book signed.

I would've asked for an autograph/picture, but I would've definatly gotten fired (It's one of the stipuations on my contract to work here).

THIEF Jul 29, 2006 10:28 AM

I met Leonard Nimoy years ago. I was performing this new piece and he was the orator. I got to chill with him in the dressing room and waiting room. He's got an awesome voice.

eprox1 Jul 29, 2006 11:05 AM

I've shaken both President Clinton's and President Bush's hands. I also saw Heidi Klum at Universal Studios Adventure Islands theme park, but didn't get to touch that one :(.

Paco Jul 29, 2006 11:38 AM

I once proposed marriage to Sheryl Crow at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. I was 21 and I was already pretty buzzed. She obviously declined but at least she let me buy her a drink.

Tom Collins. She likes those.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Jul 29, 2006 12:17 PM

Heres a list of people I've met face to face

*Bertie Ahern, Prime Minister of Ireland
*Jennings Michael Berch, author, They Cage The Animals At Night
*Suzy Kline, children's author
*Ring Lardner Jr, screenwriter, M*A*S*H

People I've had contact with

*John Ottman
*Michael Giacchino
*Zoe Poledouris
*Bruce Campbell
*Chris Roberts (Creator of Wing Commander)

Also, I once ate Steven Spielberg's pepper.

Locke Jul 29, 2006 12:21 PM

I shook Bush Sr.'s hand when he came to my HS. My principal told me if I didn't shake his hand and be polite, i'd be expelled :'( (I wasn't the most pro-american person in my school) :P

WolfDemon Jul 29, 2006 12:22 PM

Concerts don't count, do they? If they do, I saw System of a Down, Disturbed and Mars Volta.

I actually met Brad Garret and Doris Roberts from Everybody Loves Raymond though. They were at Sea World.

J-Man Jul 29, 2006 12:40 PM

Other than all the people mentioned by Free (Video Games Live FTW) I once had dinner with Harisson Ford's stunt double. He looked very, very simaler (clearly) but he was ripped and must have been ten years younger. I also talked to Rob Brind' Amour after he brought the Stanley Cup to the town near where I live.

gidget Jul 29, 2006 12:49 PM

I've known Bill Ward (the drummer from Black Sabbath) my whole life. He used to live on my street and our families are friends.

Visavi Jul 29, 2006 01:07 PM

I got the band Train to tell me their most embarrassment moment. I met a few of the Rockettes and learned their secret to how they all look the same height when performing. Also, Wyclef Jean was standing near my tour bus a few years ago, but some drunkard kept distracting me so I couldn't meet him. I also got a semi-famous author of a children's series to tell me who her favorite author was.

We were kicked out of Planet Hollywood because the person that plays as Kramer on "Seinfeld" wanted to eat in peace (as in, we were kicked out before he even arrived). One of my teachers went to a dinner a couple of years later and he was the after-dinner speaker. After-dinner speeches are suppose to be funny, but all he did was talk about how horrible President Bush was and how the war in Iraq was wrong (it's about as improper as using an Oscar speech to yell "Shame on you, Mr. Bush!"). I'm all for free speech, but if you want to deliver a speech about war and President Bush, do it at a protest rally not at a relaxing dinner where you're being paid to provide comedic entertainment.

Oh! I also got to meet the famous magician Brian Brushwell and hypnotist C.J. Walker. They both told me about how beautiful my birthplace was and was glad to meet a fellow neighbor this far north. Geena Davis came to visit my college and I caught a quick glimpse of her.

That's the coolest fucking thing ever.

I've never really had any celebrity run ins, myself. The closest I've gotten is knowing someone who has touched a celebrity, which isn't much at all.

bighunt Jul 29, 2006 01:49 PM

About 4-5 years ago, I met Curtis Strange (former golf pro). he resides in my area. he's a customer of the company i used to work for. he's totally cool and laid back. his wife is the epitome of a MILF (fake tits and all...)

DragoonKain Jul 29, 2006 03:06 PM

Most of the people I met are professional athletes, but here's my list off the top of my head:

Allen Iverson
Kyle Korver
Donovan McNabb
Brian Westbrook
Freddie Mitchell
David Akers
Troy Vincent
Robert Horry
Billy King(Sixers GM)
Dale Davis
Jon Barry
David Chappelle
Bon Jovi

I wouldn't really call it "meet" because to me a meeting is sitting down for a lengthy period of time, and not just shake their hand and exchange a few sentences. I did have a pretty lengthy conversation with Horry though, and Bon Jovi.

Shit... I didn't even think concerts. The Warped Tour is a great place to meet musicians, actually. I hung out with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach in 2000 right after their set. He was a pretty cool guy, I thought... I now regret having seen them instead of Jurassic 5 since they played at the same time. :/

In 2002 we once again hit the Warped Tour and hung out with all the boys from Reel Big Fish, but this time this happened before they went on stage for their set. All of them got pretty drunk and lit before they went on stage and as soon as they hit the stage it was RAVING LUNACY. It was actually one of the better shows we saw that day. Also, on that same day I actually sat and had a good long chat with Greg Graffin of Bad Religion. He's probably the most interesting person I've met on the tour. I'd been listening to Bad Religion since '98 and never even knew what he looked like until that day. I also found out that he's adjunct faculty at U.C.L.A. and he teaches anthropology. Ain't that a bitch?

In 2004, we went to the tour in Ventura and met Tom Keely (guitarist from Thursday) while we were taking a water break. It really is too bad that we didn't meet anyone else from different bands that day, but altogether it was a fun day.

I've met Adam Hart Davis if that counts =s. But I also was at the back of the theatre getting a signature off Noel Fielding:

If you're not in the UK I doubt you know who he is but both him and Julian Barratt are comic genius in human form IMO.

The guys from - went to my high school, but that was before I got there. I met one of their mom's when I was in like..3rd grade, though. She gave me a bunch of stickers and stuff.

Bill is an awesome guy. He's really nice and he deals with fans extremely well.

Wow, that is so lucky. The only famous person that went to my school plays for the New England Patriots. He's possibly one of the most stuck-up athelets in NFL history. My mom was ringing his groceries one time and a little boy asked for his autograph and the guy told the little kid off. This wasn't the first time either and our school wanted to change the name of the street to his name. Of course, the majority of the school voted against it b/c we hated him (even the preps thought he was crossing the line).

A lot of "famous" people have gone to school in my district (Which is really small. One high school, two middle schools and a couple of elementary schools.) but all of them went there before I was there, including the girl that played Stephanie on Full House, the boy that played DJ on Roseanne and the guy that played Ethan Craft on Lizzie McGuire was in my graduating class. The girl was a bitch and the guy that played Ethan Craft is a pretty big ass, too. Apparently the guy that played DJ was nice, though.

I've been good friends with Shani Davis for about 10 years. He holds the world records for the 1000m, 1500m, and the 5000m for long track speedskating. I met Apollo "Chubbs" Ohno through him, but Chubbs is just an alright dude. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've met George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) at a local pub called Nevin's. I used to be a regular, and one day my friend Fred points out the window and says "Here comes Norm." I laughed for a second, but when I turned I nearly shat my pants. Fred was a bartender and told me that he stops by once a month or so. George is a really humble guy, and always takes time out to talk to loyal fans of his work.

I met the Godfather of Funk himself, George Clinton, at a Parliament/Funkadelic concert at the House Of Blues in Chicago. They went in to a long jam, and George snuck off stage to the bar. I was sitting down drinking a coke (I couldn't handle a hard drink under the hot stage lights) at the end of the bar (near the stage), and George sat down next to me. I didn't realize it was him and focused on my drink. He said "You look kinda nervous man." I still focused on my drink and said "George Clinton is on stage and I don't think I can handle it. He's fuckin amazing." He said "Thanks man." I turned to him and realized I was talking to George Clinton himself. We shook hands and he patted me on the back. I was so nervous, but he laughed real hard at my expression.

I did business with Harold Ramis, but I never actually met him face to face. I just wrote him a bill for computer work.

Last year when I went to E3 '05, I met a bunch of famous people.

A few minutes after I entered the site I stumbled upon Spielberg...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../Spielberg.jpg

...then came Mortal Kombat's co-creator, Ed Boon...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...rtist/boon.jpg

...followed by Penny-Arcade's Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, who gave me a 'The Obsidian Spur' T-shirt after I told him the 'Line-Dancing' comic was one of my favorite of his...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...st/MEandPA.jpg

...Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...eArtist/EP.jpg

...and finally, the man, the myth, the Legend, Stan Lee. My knees nearly gave-up when I shook his hands.

If band signing sessions count, then I have met the (3 piece) Manic Street Preachers.

Fatt Jul 29, 2006 10:07 PM

I completely forgot about a few people.

Adrian and Roko Belic are close family friends of mine. They film documentaries, and have won awards at sundance. You'll see my brother's name in the credits of Genghis Blues.

I met Neil Gaimen in a local comic book store, but didn't know exactly who he was until I started reading the Sandman series. I just thought he was an up-and-coming comic writer who just wrote his first novel. I try to follow the Chicago underground of various types of up-and-coming artists.

I keep forgetting to mention somebody. Oh well. I'll edit this when I remember.

Edit: Got it. Dan Weinberg was the first drummer of the band Kill Hannah. He was a friend of mine, but died of an asthma attack. He died before the band really took off.

Fire On Ice Jul 29, 2006 10:26 PM

I met Sean Connery when I went to visit my aunt in New York. My 4 year old cousin went to school with his grandson. He was pretty nice, albeit a little agitated at having me fawn over him for 5 minutes.

I also met a bunch of NHLers when I was invited to that hockey camp I went to a year or so ago, Mike Fisher, Patrick Lalime, Daniel Briere and Todd White. White is a very angry little man, he was pretty rude to most of the people het met and he spent almost all his time flirting with the councellors. Briere on the other hand was probably one of the friendliest, nicest guys I have ever met. He was nothing but smiles when one of the other kids in the 13 and under part of the camp wanted him to sign 8 different things.

Remember that MTV made boyband called Together or some shit during the later-90s? I was at Disneyland went they just came out and the "bad boy" persona was there with some blond chick.

My friend stalked him on Space Mountain and he got pissed and refused to ride in the same spaceship with us. It was kind of funny watching the chain reaction effect he had, when he was walking through a crowd, literally all (or most) of the girls would stop what they were doing, stoop down low with their friends, exclaim "OMG IS THAT MIKEY" and peer around someone's head to catch a peek.

Koneko Jul 30, 2006 02:40 AM

I got to meet Bruce Campbell at a local college last year when he was a guest speaker. I got his autograph too. He seemed pretty cool.

COSTNER.

Heh, I live in North Orange County. My school district is small and (mostly) rich and safe, so parents like it. Or something.

Here's me meeting Joanna Lumley last year. I'm in the middle, pulling the really stupid face.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...catia/ds-5.jpg

She signed my old DS. I am a loser.

Cellius Jul 30, 2006 04:27 PM

A few years ago Mark Hamill was shooting a movie about 10 miles from where I lived at the time; I tracked him down and caught him in between scenes. He's extremely funny.

Howard Shore is the other. He's the man. Also last year I went to a John Williams concert but he booked right after the performance so there was no chance of meeting him.

reflectiVe Jul 30, 2006 04:28 PM

So I've only met one famous person in my life, and I have a big feeling that no one will believe me because he was in a few movies, but one of the more successful movies of all time.

My mom went to high school with a friend of hers who was into acting, he expanded on his career and he always protected my mom from any asshole who decided to play the wrong game. They were very good friends and of course after high school they barely got to keep in touch. Finally one day the movie "The Matrix" came out and she started screaming when she saw the black guy Dozer. Anthony Ray Parker! Finally after that she emailed him right away and said she couldn't believe seeing him in the movie. I met him in person and I was like "Holy shit!"...His hand made mine look like I haven't worked out ever. And I mean ever. He is MUCH bigger in person. We talked for a lil bit and he left. He actually doesn't like to act much, doesn't like his job but he's a good guy!

I've never talked with any of them other than a greeting of sorts. I've shaken/touched their hands though.

George Dub Bush
Bill Clinton
Mike Tyson (at my soup kitchen in my high school, arm wrestled the mofo)
Michael Wilbon (speaked at my high school graduation)
Mike Shinoda (at a Fort Minor concert)
(lol, lots of Mikes)
one of the guys from lostprophets

And also...
Pope John Paul Dos (he gave me bread)
Mya (high school prom.. danced with her)

Rockgamer Jul 30, 2006 08:36 PM

The only famous people I've met are Maya Angelou and Antwone Fisher.

Maya Angelou was speaking at a local university, and my high school's NHS went to go see her. She was a really great person (definitely funnier than I thought she would be), and I got say hi to her after the show.

Antwone Fisher was a speaker at my college orientation. I had never seen his movie or anything, so I didn't know that much about him, but it was still interesting to hear him speak.

Locke Jul 31, 2006 08:21 PM

lol, Kenny G and rob Lowe came back through the airport today... Wow - he's got the worst landings I've ever seen :P Rob Lowe gave me $10 though, and me and Kenny laughed and joked about a bunch of flying stuff and the weather.

THIEF Jul 31, 2006 10:29 PM

I know Chris Evans (Perfect Score, Not Another Teen Movie.) He dated Jessica Biel. Anyways, his sister is in my grade and went to my high school. I parted with Scott Evans, Chris's brother who's in broadway. Damn, they know how to get crunk...then play amazing pictionary.

I worked backstage as a security guard at the door tha seperated a stairwell, from the lounge and dressing room area for all the presenters and performers at the MMVA's, so I basically met everyone apart of that show, because I had to check everyone's wristbands going in and out the door.

A lot of weird stuff happening back stage, and a lot of booze. It was nice that I got to meet and to talk very briefly to the person I was hoping to see there, Amanda Bynes, woo :P.

When I was I living in Utah a lot of well known fighters used to show up in the gym I used to go to. I got to meet Alex Steibling who at the time was known as the Brazilian Killa because he beat a lot of famous brazilian fighters. I also met Jeremy Horn who is one of the top MMA guys in the world. Josh Burkman and Melvin Melvin Guillard of The Ultimate Fighter Season 2 fame. Also lots of muay thai guys from thailand, but I don't know how to spell their names, but they used to come train with Sakasem who used to be my muay thai trainer, and was the no.2 fighter out of Thailand during his fight days. I have to say, they were all pretty cool guys, funny too.

Every year in October they throw the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta where hot air balloon enthusiasts from all over come out to do their thing. I was there one morning and I see this group of old ladies all gawking and starring like dorks. I'm hanging out waiting for a friend to come out of the bathroom and out of nowhere Henry Winkler walks up to me and strikes a conversation to avoid the creepy old ladies.

I've also met Eddie Furlong from American History X and T2:

Susan Ward who was in Shallow Hal... extremely nice girl.

Andrew Keegan (was in 10 things I Hate About You) and Laura Ramsey (was in Lords of Dogtown and The Real Cancun)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...anRamseyMe.jpg

I also met Jamie Pressly on that same movie shoot, but she was in a bitchy mood the day I was going to ask for a pic.

Yeah, he seems like he would be high all the time, which kinda sucks. But I still love him. Especially now that I know he didn't vote for Arnold. Stupid Arnold.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Aug 2, 2006 04:23 PM

Shit, mostly professional wrestlers, the most famous of which being Sting, Goldberg, Ric Flair and HHH. I also met the Mexican from Desperado that throws a bunch of knives at Antonio Banderas. And Tito Ortiz from the UFC.

Fuck, I´d love to meet Mark Hamill.

This person may not be considered 'celebrity,' but I feel he is a famous in his own right.

I met the Vice President of Research for IBM. The one that heads the North American branch, anyway.

During high school, I was in a club that was tasked with creating a new, innovative business that simultaneously resolved issues with security and public welfare. This was state-wide, so the whole ordeal was a competition between schools to see who could create the most successful business. Our school ended up winning out the first round which skewed the teams to a total of about 6. Afterwards, we took it even further by winning in the next round, which pitted us against only one other team.

We, top two teams, were shipped off to the Hawthorne Research Center where we'd present our business plans before the VP and some other big hobnobs. Our school ended up winning and I personally received a glowing recommendation from IBM and the organization. BOOYA! The 'prize' for the entire challenge was to have IBM seriously give a look into the possibility of bringing out innovative business to reality. Being stupid, naive, snot-nosed adolescents that we were, we actually turned down this once in a lifetime opportunity. I've never regretted something more in my life.

The experience was pretty cool. I wish I had a picture, but there weren't any cameras allowed in the research center (for obvious reasons). I saw some ridiculously awesome technologies there that still haven't hit the mainstream. If you look at the pictures, the presentation deck was where we displayed our business. The Hawlodeck is amazing. The entire room is automated and have 'presets.' The room can change its entire color, window scheme, and even rearrange all the furniture all at the will of the user. Different rooms can be saved for different people. Pretty amazing.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a rant..

I've also met a billionaire. However, he's not exactly 'celebrity' either! :edgartpg:

That room sounds awesome, but kind of unnecessary. Did they have it just so they could say "Hey, look what we can do!"?

I'm not buddy buddy with any celebrities, but I've come across a few.

Notably Ozzy Osbourne (and the rest of Sabbath) at Jones Beach Sabbaths Fare-Well Concert way back when I was like...8 or some shit. I don't even remeber what year it was. I went with my dad, Go figure.

I've met and 'hung out' with Don Vito, Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn at a local bar they were at doing some sort of promotion. That was a pretty cool day. I gotta dig up pictures later of that.

Pat LaFontane was at my 2nd Cousins wedding. I've met the Karate Kid through a family friend (he used to live a few towns over, I believe in Dix Hills) and The Rock at an autograph signing.

I doubt it counts since I can't deem celebrity status to any of these people but I've met Cage, Necro, Ill Bill, Atmosphere and Mr. Hyde all over the place...that's another story though.

AcidSnake Aug 4, 2006 10:48 AM

I met Dave Mustaine once...
It was fun...
An autograph session here in Italy, I guess he wasn't expecting anyone to talk english...
It were 23 very cool seconds with the worlds leading thrasher...

Night Phoenix Aug 4, 2006 11:34 AM

Black Thought of the Roots
Redman
Dem Franchise Boyz
D4L
Master P
Lil' Romeo
Devin the Dude (cat actually has a spot not too far from where I live)
Amerie
Paul Wall
Chamillionaire
Slim Thug
Bun B & Pimp C
Nitti
Jermaine Dupri

I've met all these people at clubs or while doing shows at one time or another. I actually kick it with Devin the Dude, however, since he's from my city and comes through to see his folks all the time. I even used to date his cousin back in high school (didn't know who the hell he was back then though).

splur Aug 4, 2006 12:23 PM

Met the band OK Go... but that's the only famous people I've met in my life. Yes, I've led quite a boring life.

What exactly was your business proposition? If you don't mind me asking.

Freelance Aug 5, 2006 12:00 AM

I went to the VSDA convention many moons ago and met some people there. I saw a wrestler, but I forgot his name.

I got an autograph from Brain Krause though, but I bet you have no idea who he is. He's in Sleepwalkers and some other movies nobody cares about (unless you do, so please disregard that).

I haven't met anyone else.

Helloween Aug 5, 2006 12:10 AM

I'm good friends with Fred Penner's daughter, although something tells me most if not all people here won't know who he is.

Other than that, it's pretty slim pickin's for me. I met Mitch Dorge, the drummer from Crash Test Dummies, but again, pretty sure most of you won't know who they are. Nickelback used to open for them, and they're sort of the reason Nickelback is where they are today. They've also toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers quite alot.

If this extends to family as well, Neil Young asked my dad for directions to the MTS centre two weeks ago. That's pretty huge.

orion_mk3 Aug 5, 2006 12:50 AM

Man, this thread puts my meager collection to shame.

I've met and spoken briefly with a number of authors that I've met at various literary events--Harlan Ellison (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream), Lois Lowry (The Giver), Paul Zindel (The Pigman), and Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes). I also met John Astin (who played Gomez on the Addams Family) after his travelling one-man show about Edgar Allen Poe.

I saw Nobuo Uematsu at the Dear Friends concert in Chicago, but couldn't afford the meet n' greet afterwards (not that I'd have gotten much out of it, since he doesn't speak the lingo).

Well... A lot of us grew up listening to them, so my guess is you're wrong. Still, that's awesome! I never saw them live either, which really pisses me off to no end. :(

Because CTD is from my home town, and most people here don't even know who they are, i assumed they weren't so well known.

Wesker Aug 5, 2006 05:34 PM

Roger Clemens, astronaut Gene Cernan, former secretary of state James Baker, Tip O'Neil, Elvin Hayes, and the guy who played the Indian in the movie Predator, but right now I can't remember his name, so I guess he isn't all that famous.

Gary Oldman - not the most famous actor but he sure is a trip and and an awesome guy.

starslight Aug 5, 2006 07:10 PM

Only person I've met who could be considered famous is Matt Sharp, who played bass on the first two Weezer albums. He played an acoustic show here a couple years ago and had the audience come on stage to sit around him in a circle. Since my friend and I had arrived first, nearly an hour early, we sat right at the front, about a foot away from him for the whole show.

Afterwards, I went into the bathroom to pee, and Matt did, too. When we walked out, I told him it was a really great show and he said thanks.

I'm so lame.

Meager collection? Are you kidding? I'd rather meet Harlan Ellison than most of the people that've been mentioned in this thread, and Lois Lowry is pretty awesome too...What was Ellison like? Did you get to talk to him at all?

My only "celebrity encounter" was that Lisa Bonet (Denise from "The Cosby Show") used to come in to my restaraunt last summer. I do know alot of people who know famous people, though. I know Mariah Carey's uncle, and my aunt has been doing Erin Brockovich's insurance for years, and my aunt's new husband knows a ton of famous people, because he's an auto broker in LA.

Oh, and one of the plays I was just in was directed by Lane Davies, who was a regular on the soap opera "Santa Barbara" for years. I don't think that really counts as famous, but my mom recognized his picture in the program, so maybe he is.

I did get to speak with him a bit, though I'd never heard of him before I went to his lecture. My mother had met him earlier in the day and asked if his speech would be appropriate for her children, so he approached us before the presentation to say that there would be harsh language, but nothing that we kids hadn't heard before. When it came up that we were Methodists, he mentioned that "Methodists haven't burned anyone at the stake," which I think was a compliment.

The speech itself though--Ellison is infamous for being an irascible, profane curmudgeon, and he more than showed this in the presentation. It was funny as hell, but there was a real sense that you didn't want to get on the man's bad side, or he'd chew you up like a Marine drill sargeant. Or run you over with his car, as he claimed to have done to a teacher that doubted his writing ability.

Ellison also claimed that he hated being a fan idol, calling his diehard enthusiasts "zombies," but was more than happy to sell and sign merchandise afterwards.

Kotone Aug 8, 2006 11:29 AM

I don't know if this counts or not, but I once met Vic Mignogna and Christopher Sabat at an anime convention, along with some other anime voice actors as well. Again, I'm not sure if they count or not, because they're not really celebrities.
Other than those mentioned above, I haven't met anyone else who was even remotely famous. It's probably because I don't get out much. :boxing:

soapy Aug 8, 2006 12:28 PM

I'm assuming that when we're talking "meeting" it's not just like, "Oh I saw them at a store once"

I went to the meet and greet thing for Dear Friends and met Nobuo, but I wouldn't really consider that a real meeting.

I've seen celebrities, and I don't really remember which ones because I don't care too much about these things :p Ang Lee is married into my extended family, and my coworker is good friends with Josh Dumahel (sp?).

I did have a lunch meeting with Scott Orr (the EA guy who started the NFL Madden series) and his brother, and that was probably the only multimillionaire I've had lunch with. I actually paid for lunch. :p So I guess he's "famous" in the video game industry since he's labelled the game making god.

*AkirA* Aug 8, 2006 04:47 PM

I met Elijah Blue Allman (Solo Singer Cher and Greg Allman, from the Allman Borthers Band, son) from the band Deadsy.

The band is really good about meeting up with the fans after playing, and theyre really laid back guys. Its like talking with a buddy of yours.

Locke Oct 8, 2006 02:23 PM

Woo :)

John Travolta just came through the airport - I spoke with him for a little bit - invited him out to thanksgiving dinner with my family :) (He said that he might stop by if he's not busy, actually took the address though!)

He's a really nice guy - we talked about flying and stuff while the guy he was with was in the washroom.

WolfDemon Oct 8, 2006 02:26 PM

I just met the band Hinder yesterday. Don't really like them, but it's cool to meet a famous band. They autographed a poster for me and I'll probably just sell it.

Why Am I Allowed to Have Gray Paint Oct 8, 2006 03:18 PM

I bumped into Terry Waite at the railway station last year.

Paco Oct 8, 2006 03:39 PM

I once asked Sheryl Crow to marry me when I was at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. She politely declined but she let me buy her a drink.

Now please guys... Spare me the "DUDE! At least she chose Lance Armstrong over YOU!" because no matter which way I look at it, I was turned down for the guy with only ONE BALL. :(

Why Am I Allowed to Have Gray Paint Oct 8, 2006 04:05 PM

Uh, no... you got turned down for the guy who can kick everyone's ass every bloody time in a national cycling race after recovering from the verge of death. One of his balls is probably ten times bigger than both of yours. At least you tried though.

nazpyro Oct 8, 2006 08:06 PM

Met Filipino comic sensation/badass madapaka Rex Navarette yesterday:

Arkhangelsk Oct 8, 2006 10:03 PM

I met Matt Bellamy and the other guys from Muse at ACL fest. And Matt said Happy Birthday to me (well, I did inform him of it, but still). Got their autographs too.

I'm pretty sure they're the only 'famous' people I've met, aside from "famous violists." Wooooo~ I'm sure everyone is familar with Donald McInnes and Robert Vernon, right? :annoyed:

Krusty69 Oct 9, 2006 05:02 AM

I met Jason Kidd when I was younger. I was visiting my aunt in Portland, and he came in to buy a suit from the place she worked. He was pretty cool, gave me his autograph and everything.

NovaX Oct 10, 2006 10:04 AM

I know Daniel Johns (Singer from Silverchair) and Natalie Imbruglia (Singer/Actor). Daniel's mother and my mother were best friends in highschool and still remain pretty good friends. We've had dinner/lunch with them a dozen or so times that I can remember and we once stayed with them for 2 weeks when we were on holiday. Although we haven't caught up in a about a year or so.

The Wise Vivi Oct 11, 2006 03:21 PM

I have met Gwyne Dyer, Peter Mansbridge, Rob Corddry, and David Suzuki.

The first two are Canadian famous in Canada, while Corddry is known in the States, and Suzuki around the world.

How was Corddry? I think he is very funny, so I am curious.

The Wise Vivi Oct 11, 2006 05:05 PM

Very friendly and personable guy. He really enjoys joking around, although one on one he can be a little overboard.

The show he did at the University of Manitoba was good as well. Must have been about 2 000+ who came to see him.

Cobra Commander Oct 12, 2006 04:51 AM

I dunno if this counts but my dad had the main baddie from Ghostbusters 2 come into his eyeglass shop! I got autographs of the guy now!

Dan Walker Oct 12, 2006 05:36 AM

Between me and my girlfriend we've seen Johnny Depp, Hermione from Harry Potter, Robbie Williams, Princess Diana, oh I can't remember all of them. See, her mother was a PA and took her to all these fancy dinners with fancy people. It's so not fair :)

niki Oct 12, 2006 05:48 AM

I shaked hands with Stallone at Deauville once. Also saw Mike Myers and John Woo that year. Various French ones probably none of you ever heard about too, except maybe the ex-president Mitterand that I met while visiting a church when I was a kid. Not like I like the guy's politics, but I remember being totally impressed. =p

Your girlfriend's mom was a production assistant? The PA's are low on the totem poll and rarely get invited to do cool shit with the actors. Or did you mean that she's a PR rep?

Dan Walker Oct 12, 2006 01:56 PM

God knows what PA means, but she was it for more than two decades and knew everyone. Lived in Chelsea. I'm not actually sure what she did, but she was very up in herself. She was one of those women who wore matching suits every day, and was married to the director of some big company. I don't know what she did, but I think she was a personal assistant of a broadcast company's something something. She never really told my girlfriend all that much, she just took her to dinners and premieres and openings.

Hermione sat behind her when she saw Mamma Mia. Quite a shock that must've been :)

Edit: Emma Watson?

Edit again: You've got me all stumped here, I'm going to have to ask her again

Hehe, so many talk about drinking, I wish I enjoyed alcohol sometimes.

Jessykins Oct 12, 2006 06:22 PM

I've met all of the band members of Orgy (Ran into them at a record store before I was seeing them in concert later in the day).

I once worked with and met Shirley Maclaine and Rita Moreno.

Met Crispin Glover: http://www.ravenillusion.com/Leaveit...nautograph.jpg

Also met Jon Crosby from VAST before a show he did here as well. Pretty sweet stuff.

Oh, I forgot I met Bruce Campbell too! He's fucking cool as hell.

Locke Oct 14, 2006 02:47 PM

So I've now met John Travolta three times! The latest time he was stuck in the aiport because the chopper he was flying out in broke down (one of the engines wouldn't start due to a stuck throttle) - so we talked and joked around about me stealing one of my school's airplanes to fly him to hamilton - until they finally found another way to get to hamilton (about 45 minutes). He's a really nice guy, and even remembered me from when he was through here the two times before! (And told me to say hi to my girlfriend for him, remembering that every time I saw him previously, I told him she said hi to him :))

My Dreams Oct 21, 2006 08:54 AM

I met Juwan Howard at a store opening years ago. I really didn't want to meet him, but it was something else entirely (not his fault). He's a pretty nice guy. I got a picture taken with him as well as his autograph.

I've met a bunch of Olympians back in '93. My autograph book is covered with their names so I can't remember them all.

nororu Oct 26, 2006 12:33 PM

hi.. for me it would be Isao Takahana (Grave of the Fireflies).. he was in Los Angeles, CA.. annenberg.edu/anime/

i was soooo happy that i was all red, like a tomatoe.. :p

err...I met my senator once out side of the grocery store..

Ayos Oct 26, 2006 04:44 PM

Utah sucks.

I've never met anyone. One time, a restaurant that was attached to and had the same name as a theater I was performing at, up near Zion National Park, was graced by the presence of Diane Keaton. I was performing, and didn't get to go see her, but the waitresses got a note from her and autograph and stuff.

One time when I was 12 I e-mailed author Kevin J. Anderson, asking for writing advice. He e-mailed me back a week later giving me the most trite useless advice ever: Keep it up.

I met a very old lady, I can't remember her name but apparently she was in some movies back in the 30's or 40's... she's my director's grandmother. Also his parents are world ballroom champions or something of the sort.

SashaNein Oct 27, 2006 05:37 PM

Ben Stein.

I can think of no one else that I can consider 'famous'. However, a wrestling manager, Jimmy Hart, was ogling my mother at a Barbecue restaurant. His head is gigantic.

makura Oct 28, 2006 06:36 AM

I saw Jet Li, promoting his game "rise to honor"

I shook hands with Giada Di Laurentiis, the hot italian chef on Food Network promoting her new cookbook. (got my book signed)

I shook hands with Brad Bird, director of the some of the best animated films.. Iron Giant and The Incredibles, (promoting Incredibles DVD.. got it signed too)
Well maybe his name isn't too well known, but his work are.

takeru Oct 29, 2006 01:07 PM

Dani de Vito in L.A. airport.

Ayos Oct 29, 2006 01:27 PM

I forgot about THE MAN! He's one of the people responsible for bringing to America the martial arts I studied. The one and only CHUCK NORRIS.

That's right.

Insert obligatory Chuck Norris joke here.

Seriously though, he and one other American, along with "Pat" Morita (aka Mr. Miyagi) and a couple of the Korean masters of Tang Soo Do were the ones who established the Tang Soo Do federation here in the USA. So he's shown up to a few of my competitions and whatnot.

"Thank you, Chuck Norris!"
"No, thank you, Peter."

quest2368 Nov 4, 2006 09:04 PM

I met Lance Berkman, a baseball player, who plays for the Houston Astros. I saw him earlier this year in a cafe one morning. The whole place were pack with old folks, and they had no idea who he was!

Isha Nov 4, 2006 09:29 PM

I got to meet Don Knotts and Andy Griffith. I was eating at some nice restaurant down in Charelston West Virginia and they were sitting at the table next to us. Don Knotts asked me if I was born in West Virginia or if I was just touring. We had a long descussion about how different this part of the state compared to its more southern parts. Andy didn't say much, he was more so laughing at the joke we were making about the state. Word to the wise, don't make joke about WV unless your from WV.

nanashiusako Nov 4, 2006 10:55 PM

The only person I recall meeting in person is The Big Show (wrestler). He was in Newark Airport, and my husband shook his hand. My hubby also knows one of the guys from My Chemical Romance. They went to High School together. Frank Iero. And a good friend of ours worked in a comic shop with Mikey Way and played basketball with him.

Now if only I could meet MCR myself..... sorry 'bout all that. I got excited.
