Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Here's the trailer for the new movie. I can't even describe how giddy I am right now.

Wow. No crap? Didn't know there was a movie comin.
|
Damn, looks really cool and I can't wait!
|
Nice, finally a more unique CG art style (hopefully) than other CG kids movies.
A part of me misses the old live action costumes, though. Imagine a TMNT with the animatronic costume technology they (possibly) have nowadays! |

I am like that too Hyde. I never thought I said this, but I actually really like live action version and perfers it, there are some very gritty(?) quality about it. Although who knows, if done right, this might just grown on ya. :3 At least this isn't just another feel good kids film, hopefully... Right? O.o;
|
Well, I hope this TMNT movie does pretty good in theaters. We need more good CG movies.
|
I loved the old cartoons and live action movies of TMNT, but I haven't seen the new cartoons since I lost faith in the series when FOX created the live-action version with Venus and said that none of the turtles were related to one another. However, the trailer seems interesting, and it's about time that another TMNT movie was created.

After watching the trailer, I guess I can see it being done. Not sure if I like the art style that's being rendered with the characters, but it's good that they're not taking it too seriously. What I used to love (aw hell, still do) about the original movies is that they mixed some goofy fun into the story. |

I'd love for a full out 80s movie. Technodromes, Krang, more foot clan, Baxter Stockman, Bebop and Rocksteady. I'll be sadly dissapointed if they write in some new villian. And I'd kill for a Mouser to show up. |
It looks like garbage. It looks like they're trying to blend a comic art style with modern CG... except it turned out horribly wrong. Maybe my opinion will change once I see more than a teaser, but right now I'm unimpressed.
|
Well, they sure look a bit younger than I thought they would be, but the darkness and the mood is captured quite good so far. I just hope that Shredder will do something badass (in a flashback or not), even though he isn't the main villain.
|
I've been watching a lot of the more recent animated series lately which does the original comic far more justice than the old animation and the downright campy bits of the old movies (Vanilla Ice anyone?). That being said, I think the trailer looks very promising. The design of the green guys is pretty close to Eastman & Laird's original artwork, the atmosphere is dark, a bit gritty and yet there's still room for humor and a good measure of self-irony.
If that's the spirit of the upcoming movie, I'm already sold. |
I cannot express how amazing this trailer looks. This is DEFINITELY E&L's ORIGINAL designs, whoever did it, KNOWS turtle comics in their original form. It says that Shred head will make a small appearance, which is good enough, i mean it is a setup and will create a desire to see more :). This is TMNT at its motion picture BEST so far. I am also a DIEHARD fan of the older films (well....1 and 2....2 BECAUSE OF SUPER SHREDDER!). If this trailer is ANY indication of the film (which it obviously is lol) then as Cyrus said...i too am sold:D. I also cannot wait to hear what theme will be composed for our green masters return to film;).

They look weird. I don't know if I like this smaller, thinner look they have. And there's something kinda stupid about going from two live-action movies to a CG movie, if this one is indeed a follow-up of that storyline.
|
The first movie was fucking awesome. But I think Shredders ALL-EVIL plan to corrupt the youth of New York to get them into crime was kinda lame lol.
There was a grittiness about the turtles in the first movie that made it really awesome. The second got kinda TOO 90s campy. 3rd was just....shit =P |
I'm sorry. I just can't put 'darkness' and 'teenage mutant ninja turtles' in the same sentence. It's too weird. They're turtles. I understand the whole campy feel and tongue-in-cheek humor that's been associated with the movies and cartoon (I haven't read the comics, though), but ...I dunno.
The trailer just comes off as something that's trying to be cool with a hint of humor at the very end. The final product will probably change my views on this, but eh. |
Go back to 1988 and ask people on the streets about Batman. Then wait a year and do it again.
|
Done.
What now? |
Well, in 1988 they would have been like "Oh yeah, of course I know Batman ... da-da-da-da-da-da Batmaaan ... Adam West and Burt Ward were hilarious".
1989: "Wow, this Burton movie was dark, I mean dark! I gotta check out this badass Frank Miller comic everyone keeps telling me about..." My point is (and sorry for making it so late, I kinda forgot about this thread): TMNT would not be the first franchise to be somewhat ... misrepresented by certain deriative works. Elements like the protagonists' obsession with pizza, the Cowabunga catchphrase and most high-tech gadgets came from the first animated series. The original comics were pretty down to earth, dark, gritty and to some degree a direct homage to Frank Miller comics like Ronin and his work on Daredevil. I'm not saying the new movie should severe all ties to the more light-hearted interpretations (the 2003 animation doesen't do this either and it's ok) but I do hope the Turtles' days of excessive camp are over for good. |
:lolsign: looks neat
Too bad I cant order a pizza, bring some beer, and chill with the guys at the theatres  |
This movie looks weird.
I don't know... the last full on CG movie I can remember is the Final Fantasy: Spirits within or some shit. That was complete shit. I don't like how Shredder isn't in this movie either. How can you have a TMNT movie without Shredder? |

Have you been missing all the CG movies that have been coming out for the past 10 years? |
The style's a little too "in-your-face" for me. It's like they're trying to impress you with its cool slickness (omg they're doing flips!!11 and waving weapons around!!11). But I guess it's for younger audiences that'll eat that stuff up.
Also: totally bitter that the opening shot of the moon didn't turn into a blurred pan downwards to an exploding manhole cover like in the intro of the cartoon. |
New trailer is up at MTV.com
http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/284385/trailers.jhtml Very nice, very nice indeed. |
My opinion, I lost all hope for this movie now.
It's based on the cartoon franchise than the original comic books. I was hoping to see a somewhat serious movie like the first TMNT live action movie (The best one IMO), but it's looking like your typical CG movies that comes out every year from Dreamworks or something. They're fighting aliens? .. |
I can't watch it - it's US-only. I didn't much like the first video where they're running around on rooftops. The animation wasn't life-like (they didn't seem to have enough "weight") and the character designs looked quite silly to me; they had the attitude but not the look to carry it off.
|
|
Having seen that new video, I can see how they're aiming for it to be more tongue-in-cheek (a lot like the cartoon). The initial impression of all that realistic 3D environmental work led me to believe that they were trying for something deadly serious.
|
Well, unfortunately, most kids programming seems to think that the lowest common denominator is also the final frontier.
Boo. |
Even if they are aiming for the younger audience, I think it will still be a good movie. It just won't be for everyone. Which is probably unfortunate in the long run.
|
What a load of crap. I didn't think much of the first trailer, but now I am just down-right disgusted. I echo Ulysses comments on the animation. Did the TMNT's go on a diet at some point? Atkins?...their faces are terribly messed in the 2nd trailer. Rather than spend money to watch this junk, I think I'll go buy the original TV series on DVD.
I can't see this being a big success. TMNT are not the hot thing for Saturday-morning cartoons anymore, so the younger generation won't be craving it to a large extent. And the 20-30 year olds expect a little more for their buck, and their loyalty (or at least they should), than seeing the TMNT being degraded from childhood heroes to a cheap CGI animation, just because someone trying to make an easy buck on the franchise. 16 years later and the original TMNT movie still kicks the shit out of this crap. |
I thought they were going to do a live action CGI movie. Kinda disappointed, but the lastest batch of CGI movies has been pretty good. Plot of the movie doesn't seem all that great, but sequences are looking pretty good so far.
I'm gonna wait and see what the critics say before paying to see it |
I wonder whether they stuck with the original homecoming/reunion plot. Pitting the Turtles against some cheesy extra-dimensional threat and probably the Foot is ok in my book as long as the movie still takes its time to actually deal with the characters. Given that the new trailer was an MTV exclusive, I'll just presume for now that it was compiled with an audience of attention span deficient kiddies in mind.
|
I was also hoping that this flick would've been edgy like the original live action, but oh well. I'm sure it'll be somewhat entertaining, but I don't have my hopes up anymore. Why is making a good movie too much to ask these days?
|
I like how the animation is choppy.
::everyone laughs:: |
new trailer over at IGN: http://media.movies.ign.com/media/15...40/vids_1.html looks awesome man, can't wait for this one.
|
I spotted the trailer on one of the kids movies at my theater, and I've gotta admit, the movie looks decent.
I like the style the animation currently has, but I'm just not sure where they're taking it. One minute it looks like it'll be like the original TMNT, but the next it's deadly serious looking with some weird-ass monsters and shit. I'll likely see it out of pure curiosity, but the movie could be anything at this point, ranging from pure shit to a real revival of the franchise. |
I ordered TMNT from my cable's On Demand service a few hours ago and I honestly liked it after months of "Why did they bother?" This is coming from a child of the '80s and '90s who was into everything TMNT except the Eastman/Laird comics which I have never read, mind you.
I felt like the movie was more about the conflict between the Turtles as brothers and as a team, and especially about Leonardo and Raphael, and I liked that a lot. The dialogue was never insulting and didn't bombard me with one-liners, nor was it too over-the-top for me. The animation fits for the movie it is, and I'm sure their fighting walking statues and all that is so the kids can see some fight scenes and action. Also, Raphael's Night Watcher costume was extraordinarily cool. This one surpasses at least TMNT2: The Secret of the Ooze and probably the third one, which I have never seen but commercials and the Angry Videogame Nerd's video on it made it look astronomically stupid. Off-topic: TMNT made me wonder how WB will handle ThunderCats. I loved it when I was four years old, but became a joke to me having watched the entire series during its Toonami run and seeing the sets sell for like $65-$70 apiece. |
