Favorite Car Manufacturer
I realize I didn't get them all, but max is 20! So I just chose the first 20 that popped into my head, which hopefully means they're the 20 most popular (where I live anyways).
Double Post: Ahh... I forgot Nissan!! Damn it! |
Why a poll when there's not enough place to list all the manufacturers?
Anyway, I'd have to say that Toyota is my favorite. The reason is because I think the company represents quality and I've always had a soft spot for their cars. Generally, their cars are of higher quality than most other cars and they have a wide selection of different kind of models which is always good. Though I'm reluctant as to where to put my vote, because I also favor BMW alot, but I'm picking Toyota on this one. |
Can I mark "other?"
Seriously, my favorite makes aren't the ones that I drive. I'm a huge fan of orphan makes that have gone out of business over the years. It's really interesting to see how people other than the American Big Three and the Japanese Big Two did cars back in the day. To wit: Studebaker - the Loewry (sp?) styled mid-50's Studes are some of the most elegant cars ever made, and their styling holds up well to this day. DeLorean - Even though they were underpowered by sports car standards, the cars oozed cool from every vent. It's too bad that the planned DMC sedan was never made; I'd have loved to see a gull-winged sedan. Kaiser - They only made cars for a short while, yet their styling is as elegant as any established manufacturer, and their penultimate cars are more works of art than automobiles. |

Everyone, get down! It's a bomb! BOOOM! Wait. There was no fire. Oh, I see. It's a product placement bomb. That explains it... I think I'll pick Chrysler. Although the cars aren't as affordable as many of the others, they are quality products. For example, I know a friend that has within his family's Chrysler a device used to measure how long it'll be (in mileage) before the car runs out of gas. Now that's a nice feature! |

Delorean, you're killing me...
(First off, I love your name) Now I'll list off my top three, because I can't pick a bloodly one. BMW - The M3 is quite the superior, and badass of the bunch, but the sheer amount of quality put into each and every car just is fantastic. Honda - S2000. Enough said. Subaru/Mitsubishi - A sort of tie between the two for me. The WRX STi, and Lan Evo compete with eachother just about equally, therefore they come in at a tie. I know I didn't quite list each to compare the full lineup of each manufacturer, but I still retain that the top manufacturers are not American. American car manufacturers seem to think that a "revolution" in their company is a release of a variety of new shaped cars. Hey, maybe that's not the problem? Maybe it's the fact that on EVERY American car I touch, the plastic feels like I could poke through the bloody thing with enough force. I understand that it takes more money to make quality products, but when Ford Mustangs have the same plastics as a Kia, you've got a major problem. Double Post: Quote:
Most Americans are impressed by little gimmiks, not that of actual build quality. Oh, and that feature is available on every Volkswagen. For that matter, every european car... |
I'm not saying it isn't on other vehicles. I was just saying it adds to the quality of the product. And it isn't that I only like the cars because of items like that. The cars are comfortable, quiet, and have a better-looking interior than many cars I see on the market.
|
[QUOTE=Pietak]Delorean, you're killing me...
(First off, I love your name) LoL, Why am I killing you?? :O |
I always liked vehicles produced by Audi. They are very elegant, affordable and nippy. Although I don't have any driving experiences, I'd like to buy a good mid-range car of Audi someday.
|
Anything but American.
Saturn (the only American brand not totally destroyed by GM or Ford yet), Honda, and Toyota are my 3 favorites, but a lot of the European stuff (BMW, etc.) are good too. |
I like Toyota, but Nissan my favourite, but it wasnt listed :(
|
i've got an acura and thus far it's been fantastic. it's got posh interior with leather seats, six disc changer with audio controls on the steering wheel, and ass warmers. it's pretty fast and i haven't had any problems with it thus far. for this, i'm partial to hondas, but i appreciate the quality of toyota/lexus vehicles as well. i used to have a 94 corolla and that thing was one of the most reliable vehicles ever. my mom's got a lexus lx470 which is a beast of a suv, but it drives incredibly smooth.
hopefully in the future i'll be fortunate enough in my career to get a nice lexus or a bmw, or a porsche, or a lamborghini, when my current car decides that it's had enough. |
I had to choose Jaguar
They are not that good of cars but yet they are very stylish in their ways |
Nissan, but mainly because most of the car that we bought was Nissan. Fairly reliable, okay miliage, relatively cheap. So far it hasn't become a personal statement but rather simply getting us somewhere.
|
My personal favorites are Toyota, Audi, and BMW. Chrysler's are really cool to drive as well.
Not a big fan of Volkswagon, but I love those new GTI commercials, "German engineering in da haus, ja.” haha By the way, you left out Volvo as well. |
How is Kia even an option?
|
SAAB! SAAB! WHAT ABOUT SAAB?!?
|
Honda.
I am witness to several Honda cars going well beyond 400,000 miles with only minor and routine maintenance needed. Besides, you can take an engine out of one of their SUV's and put it in a Civic hatchback, how could you not like that interchangeability of parts? |

ok dude... no nissan? give me a break.

Toyota for me. I pretty much grew up with them, and I've never had a problem with Toyotas.
I hate most American cars, though.. |
i like very much all deutch manufacturer , i don't konw why....
and i could add peugeot too !! |
My dad has a really nice Lexus. I guess Lexus is my favorite.
|
My favourite car is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, but since its the only car that i like with Mitsubishi im gonna have to go with Audi.
The Audi S3, RS 4 and A4 are among my favourites. |
Btw, BMW is way over-hyped.
Yeah, they can have some powerful and neat cars, but a lot of the love for it is just media exposure, and the ensuing status symbol that follows. |
Omg, im sorry guys. I should have put Nissan and probably saab up there, but Im llaaammmmeee and it wasnt one of the first 20 to pop into my head. Nissan should definently be up there. You have rights to make a "Who thinks Delorean is a jackass for not putting Nissan on the poll" poll.

Most luxury cars are bought purely for the status symbol. Same with Volvo, Audi, Lexus, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Porche, Infiniti, etc. |
After driving a Volvo for the past two years, I wouldn't have any other kind of car. Yes, they are ugly cars, but it is a safe car. <3

A Scion is technically a Toyota, by all intents and purposes.

I work for a Chrysler dealership. I like Dodge.
A few Chrysler products are Mitsubishi made, and let me tell you, I DESPISE working on those. Also, the Chrysler Crossfire is a Mercedes Benz deal, and it isn't any better a car. The Mercedes Sprinters (the big ole' cargo vans) usually drop a motor around 200k miles. One thing I think is that people will buy an American car just because they really don't know much about cars. Then, when they deny putting regular maintenance into it, running it into the ground, and cursing it, they decide that an foreign make is all of a sudden better. Some foreign cars are generally more sustainable (probably just Honda and Toyota), but the rest of them really aren't all that much better. |
DeLorean. Although, I love other manufactures, the DeLorean is my favorite vehicle of all time. If I had a seond one it would have to be Chevy, mainly because of the amount of racing engines and cars we use at our racetrack.
|
I'm quite fond of Chrysler these days....mostly because they have some very nice, innovative designs that don't look like generic 'electric shavers' (like so many of BMW's models...). Maybe they're not the most reliable, as I've heard from some people, but they sure as heck look nice.
Sorry, I'm quite shallow when it comes to my cars :). |
Which product in particular are you speaking of, Arkhangelsk? Perhaps I could tell you a bit more about it.

For Chrysler, I'm one of (the bazillion) fans of the PT Cruiser, and I'm rather fond of the Crossfire as well. http://images.securedwebform.com/sto...r/2005/5mm.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...7/fc821838.jpg Not to mention the Prowler, which was fucking awesome. http://www.autochoices.com/gifpic/ho...rowler_386.jpg Of course, I like old cars as a general rule...right up to about the mid-60s/early 70s. The 80s were mostly shit to me, as are the 90s and beyond with few exceptions. |
Ah. The PTs are nice. As long as you don't rough ride them, they will do you good. I haven't seen any PTs with drastic failures. But past warranty, the repairs might be a bit pricy, because the underhood area is so small, they are harder to work on sometimes. Parts are cheap, though, so it generally balances out. Expect a transmission leak, however.
Crossfires are German designed and produced. Everything on them is Mercedes Benz. Possibly cheap to buy, but EXPENSIVE to upkeep. I just replaced some weatherstrips on one, and I sort of fucked them up (cut 'em too short). Just one ran aro.und 130 dollars. My boss had to spend around 500 bucks to replace them all. They're neato, but I personally think they're shitmobiles. The Prowler...those are rare as fuck. You'll see one in the shop once maybe every 2 or 3 months (and this is Vegas). We'll work on 30 Vipers before a Prowler comes in. I've never even driven one. Before Plymouth was disbanded, the Prowlers were labeled as Plymouths. |
I've always been partial to Mitsubishi cars because I find them more appealing than any other car. However, cars like the Eclipse and Diamente are ugly to me.
|

http://www.emercedesbenz.com/Images/...ComingToUS.jpg Then again, I think Mercedes-Benz are releasing those under their name, right? I love those stupid things. First saw them in Italy, and thought they were the craziest, most wonderful idea ever. |
Im going with Mazda. For 2 reasons.
I own a Mazda 3, and it drives like a dream. There are better cars out there, but for the price and the ride, I love this car. |
it's nissan for me. fun, reliable, not too expensive. they have something for everybody. i don't think i'll buy another manufacturer. Carlos Ghosn turned the company around and in 2001, i bought my 1st Nissan. i remember the commercial for the Maximas that year too. it defintiely got my attention. It was sliding throught the desert... "The 2001 Nissan Maxima. Horsepower: 222. Cars Like It: 0"

Anyway. Subaru's are by far the best cars on the road. A testament to this is that my friend clocked up a staggering 600,000 kms on the one engine before it finally died. I feel so bad about writing off my '91 L series, it had only done 190,000ks! |
My favorite is definitely Volvo. They're so sturdy and they last forever. They're like little tanks. If you're ever in an accident, you want to be in a Volvo.
Plus, they're all boxy and cute...at least the older ones are. I really don't like the way that Volvo has rounded out the corners on their cars in the last couple of years, but I guess that makes them more aerodynamic. I despise American-made cars. Every one I've ever owned has turned out to be a fragile piece of crap. |
So uh... who edited my poll? I sure as fuck didnt put DeLorean and Studebaker on there. I didn't put DeLorean up there because they arent alive... no cars being made.
|
I drive a Subaru Impreza and it's an incredible car. There's very little on the road that'll beat me from the lights and even less that can go round corners as fast as I can. Add to that it has yet to break down and is very comfortable on long journeys and I think you'd struggle to find a better car.
I wouldn't say Subaru were my favourite manufacturor though. I'd rather have a Mitsubishi Lancer (For styling reasons, and they're slightly less common over here). Also, I'd really like to have a Pagani Zonda, a Bugatti Vaeron, a Gillet Vertigo or any number of other, ridiculous super cars. Chances are I'll never be able to afford one though. Thing is, there's far too many car companys out there to have a favourite. I really love Noble M12s though. I almost bought one until I realised that I couldn't afford the repayments on a £30,000 loan and the insurance and petrol would bankrupt me... |

My personal fav would be Toyota and BMW. Currently I drive a silver Toyota RAV4, and a lot of my friends love my car, lol.
BMW's Z3 is just a beauty...omg, I'd so love to have a car like that, lol. Mom drives a X5, but she's thinking about trading it to have a X3... |
i'd say a McLaren. Can't get enough of this beast.
|
Historically Toyota and Honda have been my favored car manufacturers. Voted for Toyota, but only because I plan on getting a toyota hybrid sometime next year.

I've owned a grand total of 5 cars over the last 6 years or so:
Technicly, my first car was a 1980 VW Rabbit, automatic transmission. I paid $300 for it. I started to learn how to drive on it, but ended up giving it to my mom, who needed a car alot more than I did at the time. She drove it for a few months then sold it. My REAL first car was a 1986 Dodge Colt, one of those cars that was actually made in Japan by Mitsubishi (I think someone mentioned that before). I paid $750 for this one and drove it for about 2 and a half years. Got it up to 170,000 miles before it died. I liked it alot, it was simple and easy to work on, and reliable. On the downside, it had no power at all, and it smoked like you wouldn't believe. This car was a 4 speed manual. At first I really didn't like the manual, but after I got used to driving one I really liked it. Car #3 is one that I currently still own. After the Colt died, I went looking for another car. My original plan was to find a VW Scirocco (I've always wanted one), but instead I came home with another Colt, this time a Plymouth Colt Vista 4WD. It cost me $500. The Colt Vista is very different from the regular colt, it's like a cross between a wagon and a mini-van, and it has a different motor (2.0L instead of 1.5L). Its also a 5 speed instead of a 4 speed. I love this car, because it's very utilitarian (spelling?). But, just like my first Colt, this one had a smoking problem. I decided to put a different engine in it. I spent $1,500 on the project, $800 for an engine with 50,000 miles on it and the rest went to other parts. I did most of the work myself. This was about a year ago. Last summer I blew the head-gasket on the new motor, so I had to replace that too. Thats the only time this car has ever broken down on me. It's currently got 142,000 total miles on it, fewer on the engine itself. Car #4 was a 1984 Jeep Cherokee, I got it for free from a friend after I blew the head-gasket on the Colt. I drove it for about 2 months, then sold it when I got the Colt running again. I split the money with my friend. I would have kept it, but it had a leak that made the inside all moldy, and it was an automatic (I REALLY prefer manual transmissions). Finally, Car #5, my favorite so far: A 1978 VW Dasher (aka Passat), 4 speed manual. Its my current daily driver (I'm keeping the Colt as a back-up for the VW). I LOVE this car. I got it at an auction for a mere $300, I feel like I stole it because it's only got 120,000 miles (VERY low for a car this age) and looks brand new. The engine is clean enough to eat off of. It's much faster than any other car I've owned. It's got a 1.6L gas engine (I think most Dashers had disels), 81HP. Thats not alot by todays standards, but thats pretty good for an old 4 clyander... the 2.0L engine in my Colt Vista has less HP than that. The Dasher has a more powerful engine in a lighter car... that makes it alot more fun to drive. It also kinda looks like a Scirocco, another feature I like. One weird thing about these cars though: they are FWD, but the engine is mounted in a "north-south" configuration, just the oposite of most FWD cars... Anyway, I have a few pics: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...516/VWSide.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/VWEngine.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...WDashboard.jpg As you've probably guessed, I voted VW :p |

I like Mitsubishi. Been a fan of their cars for a while now. Spyder, Lancer Evo, Eclipse, I like a lot of their cars. A strong second for me though would be Nissan, because of one car: Skyline. I guess in third would be Mazda. I do like the RX Series from their line.

I voted Aston Martin. DB9 and Baby Aston all the way! |
To answer the previous question: No, I'm not a hairdresser, lol. Just a simple student. The reason I like thos Z3 cars was its look, especially the silver one. I like silver cars for some reason.
|
I voted Honda (as opposed to Acura) because I own an '02 RSX and it's been fantastic. Never had a problem with it, it's quick, and enough basic mods on the market to keep me happy when I have some money and time to spend. Every person I've ever known who's owned a Honda has been in the same boat as me it seems.
I don't know what my next car will be (it'll be a while barring any unforseen incident), but I'll start at the Honda/Acura dealer for sure. |
Nissan all the way!

I would say Nissan, because our old sentra is still up and about...it doesn't use as much gas as the galant and the aircon never and i mean NEVER gave up on us..even in the hottest summers
|
I like Hearses but you didn't name any manufacturers, naturally.
|
I'm a Honda fan. They're reliable, fuel efficient, safe, and quite comfortable. Although my next car will more than likely be a VUE because Honda doesn't make any suvs to my desired specifications and VUE fits them perfectly (an SUV the size of the CRV with the engine power of the Pilot) and it's V6 engine is made by Honda. I like to think of it as the love child of Honda and GM.

Voted Toyota. Own a '85 Tercel. Still runs. Ain't fast but she lasts.
I love Toyotas - from the Celica to the Caldina, Toyotas is my all-time favorite. Subaru comes close but my love of the Celica GT4 conquers ALL. |
We usually only buy a Mitsubishi. But then at the time when I was to buy my car, their 2door was, erm... expensive, so I settled with my other choice, which was a Honda Hatch :)
But if I were to choose another, Id prolly go with BMW :p I just love the M6 ;) |

I chose Chevy. For one car, the Camaro. I saw it when I was smaller and loved it. Now that I'm grown up, I still love it! I'm also very into muscle cars. My dream car would be a 1969 Chevy Camaro SS. So natually, I now own a 1998 Camaro Z28. I love it so much. Not just the fact that it has about 300 horse power stock, it just sounds so mean. I've had like 1 issue with it since I've had it. I've had it now for 1 year and a few months. And I drive this car hard. Once the new Camaro in '08 comes out, I'll most likely be buying that one, and then maybe I can make my current Camaro a drag car. Hell I'm hoping by the end of this year my car will push 400HP+ and run 11's at the strip.
I've been in cars that my friends own or family own, from Cadillacs to Toyotas, to BMWs. They're all nice. The more expensive cars just have way too much stuff for me. Too many gidgets and gizmos. The other cars(lower end imports) just don't got enough power in the car. Some do though, like the STi, Evos, etc. But for the price tag, I can still buy a Camaro Z28 for half/less the price and use the rest to mod the hell out of it. |
