VG Trivia!

I'd like to warn everyone that the trivia posted may contain spoilers. Read at your own discretion.

What i'm looking for are trivia questions of any nature. The trivia here is open to any aspect of console gaming.
Questions that may invoke more than one response are encouraged because it will prolong its life, such as the following question:
Spoiler:

"How many adventures has Mario been on?"

then people start counting all of mario's adventures

smb1, smb the lost levels, smb2, smb3, mario land 1, mario land 2,smw, mario rpg, mario 64, paper mario, paper mario tyd, the new smb, mario sunshine, mario and luigi superstar saga, and mario and luigi partners in time.

which comes out to a total of 15. sounds pretty reasonable right?

it definitely is, though there are two things that people might miss:
1) mario's time machine isn't an adventure of mario's that people remember right off the bat, let alone some might not even know it exists
2) Super Mario 2 was all Mario's dream, so technically Mario didn't go anywhere.

Which means the answers could be between 14 and 16, leading the people who counted 15 to be right for the wrong reason. This allows the assessment of reasoning to weigh the validity of the answer.

So no holds barred, this is free-for-all trivia.
Also keep in mind that it is encouraged to look for other correct answers rather than recycling the popular ones.

Update 8/15
i propose creating trivia based on screenshots as a new theme. screenshots are everywhere not to mention, screenshots are rather easy to make one's self. with any luck, this idea will take off.

for kicks, i might post pictures that answer the questions already ask and work backwards to find which question it corresponds to.

That Mario question is very tricky for the non die-hards :(

I have to answer some of these before some less creative people come by:

1) Final Fantasy IX, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Chrono Cross, Tekken 5 (basically any fighting game)
2) Live a Live (Sunset + Oboro)
3) Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter (Dan's premium taunt)
4) Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Trigger

Here's a couple:
Name 3 games where music is used as a weapon (directly).
Name 3 RPGs where you can't escape from battle.
Name 3 RPGs where equipment can give a negative bonus to your base stats.

4. SSB - Luigi
5. Phantasy Star IV and Fire Emblem (GBA Fire Emblem 7)
6. Magmax and Lemmings?
7. Dragonforce (Goldark), Vagrant Story (Sydney [sort of])
8. US SMB2/Doki Doki Panic and I'd like to mention a less obvious one, but it isn't coming to me right now

A number of spells from FFVI. Merton and W. Wind come to mind. If Lores count, you've got Grandtrain, Quasar, Rippler, Step Mine, etc.

You mean like FFT with the Bard class or like SMRPG with Mallow and his Cymbals?

How many maidens in distress has mario saved?

How many stages are there in Super Mario Bros.?
2. Daisy and Peach.

Typically, 32. However there's actually 36 programmed in, as Minus World is really Level 36.

And for the record, Super Mario 2 IS an adventure. The one we really know is Super Mario USA. FDS FTW.

1. Daisy, Peach, and Pauline. I could've sworn that was the first one on the Game Boy or something like that...

2. No answer... Fan of the series. Haven't played it enough to actually know. <_<

3. 99 lives, but I have a random feeling it's wrong.

4. 32? But I'm not sure if you're including anything else in this either.

Moreso like Mallow (never thought of that one!) Didn't the Bard class just sing stat raising songs or something?

Also,
4) 3 games where you can rename everyone but the main character.

Pauline doesn't count, as she was saved by "Jumpman". Unless you want to get technical and count Donkey Kong on the GB.

Singing is their class skill, however if you do opt to have them attack something, they'll play their harp at the enemy, and that damages them. A throwback to Edward in FF4 I guess.

Yeah, I was a bit off, as it's the Dancer who affects enemies. Fortunately, the Bard does work with the definition I now know you intended (as Kaelin mentioned), so I'll add Nikki from Chrono Cross to complete the trio.

Summonmaster Jul 14, 2006 03:21 PM

Ooh very nice! I didn't remember some of that, and yes following with Kaelin's mention, bard harp music is totally what I meant. Irenes in CC uses her harp too I believe.

I was hoping someone would say Project Justice (Yurika shoots music), or Kirby Superstar (Kirby's Mic ability). I don't know if Legend of Mana would count since you are producing magic from playing the instruments.

There should be some more questions here, some of these can get really neat without being too overly difficult.
eg. 5) Name 3 games without a level 99 cap

Yeah, I thought about that one myself but the magic thing kept me from being certain enough to mention it. I also remember that you use a flute as your weapon in Illusion of Gaia, though I don't think the hero has a way of attacking that involves actually playing it.

Star Ocean the Second Story, Disgaea (or probably any Nippon Ichi SRPG; I know Phantom Brave doesn't have one), Final Fantasy VIII (the cap is 100)

Lessee.....Any of the Level 4 spells from the earlier games (Final Fantasy IV comes to mind). I think Final Fantasy had an "Old" spell or something. Final Fantasy VI had a unique Merton and W. Wind as pointed out earlier. I don't remember seeing Rasp any more either. Life 3 was dropped as White Magic (Final Fantasy IX's Auto-Life doesn't count). Final Fantasy VII had a unique "Contain" which was never followed up. Final Fantasy VIII had meltdown, aura, double/triple, and a plethora of others that were one-timers. Final Fantasy IX, I'm not sure since I don't know what was in FFX, XI and XII. Tactics held the unique Level2 Protect and Shells as well as all the movement time magic never made it out of that game for obvious reasons. Come to think about it, scratch what I said about the Level 4s since they're in Tactics.

Not ANY fighting game. You overlook Ogre become True Ogre (or something like this) in Tekken 3. =)

J-Man Jul 14, 2006 07:43 PM

This is the most generally informative VG thread I've ever seen.

Summonmaster Jul 14, 2006 07:59 PM

Very good point eye! I was thinking of ogre but the 1st form of ogre was so immemorable that it didn't click in my mind.

As for no level 99 cap, Star Ocean was what I had in mind too, but I'm pretty sure you could get to level 255 in Tales of Symphonia as well.

AS much as I like thinking of these questions, other should people should pose some of their own too. I wanna guess too! :)

That really depends on how you look at it....If you're saying a playthrough where the main character does not use a sword or ANY main character cannot use a sword. For example......

Final Fantasy I (Depends on who you choose in your party)
Final Fantasy V (Depends on your class)
Final Fantasy Tactics (See above)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (If your team DID NOT consist of Duran)
Legend of Mana (If you did not choose a sword protagonist)
etc.

I think the answer you want is...

Final Fantasy IX (Uses Daggers)
Paper Mario (I guess hammers)
Pokemon (Your Main Character uses Pokemon, and at which point, not even your pokemon have swords)

I guess if you wanted a real RPG, the last slot would be.....

Xenogears (Never actually beat the game, but I assume he never picks up a sword.)

ArchesFan Jul 15, 2006 02:36 PM

I guess I'll ask a question, probably a crappy one though.

1. We all know that games have characters with names (obviously) and sometimes there is that hidden cool thing about last names, but the usually don't mean anything. Name 2 video games where the main character's last name actually had a bearing on the story? (Don't name 2 games in the same series)

EDIT: Maybe I should clarify. The name doesn't have to be like a big moment or anything, but it's mentioned in the story and maybe there are family members who are important in the story or series.

Beoluve (or however you spell it, Ramza's last name from FFT)
Albane (Cless/Cress, I don't know but it's a shot in the dark from how much of the game I've gotten through Tales of Phantasia)

Maybe Fallout, but maybe you get a sword in that. I'm not sure.

The Closest Fallout gets to a sword is a combat knife or the Ripper (which is also a dagger regardless). So Fallout technically qualifies.

1. Final Fantasy VI (Whether you're looking at Terra OR Celes)
Legend of Mana (If you chose the girl)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (If you chose Carlie, Lise, or Angela as your main character.)
Pokemon Crystal and on (You have a choice)
Final Fantasy X-2 (Never played it, but from what I hear...)

2. Final Fantasy IV (Final Party: Cecil, Kain, Rosa, Rydia, Edge)
Final Fantasy Tactics (In any particular battle, you fluctuate between 4 or 5 controllable characters)

Can't think of another 5 person party...

Super Smash Bros. Melee (Luigi's)

Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (Does that count, you pick up the little orb things in every stage to get magic), Kingdom Hearts (? You get the spells through various events).

Sir VG Jul 15, 2006 11:47 PM

Quote:

Secret of Mana (acquired from events), Final Fantasy VIII (drawn), Legend of Mana (made via instruments)

Summonmaster Jul 15, 2006 11:57 PM

Great! I had FF VIII directly in my mind, but forgot about Secret of Mana being event-obtained. Next!

10) Name 3 RPGs in which at some point you control characters separately but they are all in the same dungeon, and you have to work together but separately to advance in the dungeon.

Sir VG Jul 15, 2006 11:59 PM

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the obvious:
Final Fantasy VI.

nuttyturnip Jul 16, 2006 12:18 AM

PoPoLoCrois is another one where you have to split up.

Dalkaen Jul 16, 2006 10:42 AM

The three RPGs I was thinking of with five controllable characters in battle were: Final Fantasy IV, Lunar, and Lunar 2, by the way. Didn't think about Final Fantasy Tactics.

Another RPG in which you have to split up to advance through the dungeon is Final Fantasy VIII, in the final one. FFVI was the first to come to mind, though.

ArchesFan Jul 16, 2006 11:01 AM

The ones I was thinking of for five controllable characters during battle were: Final Fantasy IV, Lunar, and Albert Odyssey.

Summonmaster Jul 16, 2006 03:54 PM

For splitting up, also FF VII (last dungeon as well), and Wild Arms (a certain tower).

11) Name 3 RPGs where one of your main characters is unusable in the final battle. By this I mean, due to storyline cirumstances, and this does not count games where (a) main character(s) have died sometime earlier in the story.
12) Name 3 RPGs where a special move/technique/attack/command is learnt in/before the final battle and in order to beat the game you MUST use aforementioned special move/technique/attack/command. Small exceptions for where it is technically possible to beat the game without it, but incredibly difficult.

I'd have to say Final Fantasy VI (Phoenix Cave/Kefka's Tower), Final Fantasy VIII (Ultemecia's Castle), and a very brief moment of Final Fantasy IX (Pandemonia with the elevator switch).

As for the second one, I'd say Final Fantasy Tactics as you don't have to level up to gain JP. Final Fantasy IX again, you don't have to gain levels for AP. Final Fantasy VIII is obviously drawn from monsters. I guess you could make an arguement for Final Fantasy VII too as you "learn" by equipping.

As you can see, my RPG selection is not very broad as every answer I've given is usually something from Final Fantasy. But nevertheless, I'll give a question here....

Name 3 Strategy RPGs that don't allow you to take a move back after you've done it. (I really can only think of one big one, but I dunno, surprise me)

Summonmaster Jul 16, 2006 10:30 PM

1) Vandal Hearts
2) Final Fantasy Tactics
3) ?

Paper Mario (Peach Beam)
FF7 (don't you have to use omnislash on sephiroth or something?)
Lunar SSSC(if you don't play that flute thing Luna doesn't come to her senses and ends up killing you right?)

There's also the fact that you can recruit Cloud in Final Fantasy Tactics. And a number of other characters. I dunno if that counts, since it's not technically another "series," but yeah.

I meant right at the new game/load game screen, it's not just a menu. I believe you got to pick from Start and Continue/Load in Crystalis and BoF V, but good point on how they start.
I actually have three specific games in mind for that question.

As for 11), I have two other games in mind too, but was surprised at that answer.
Spoiler:
I'm guessing it's Orsted in Live A Live. Haven't finished it yet :o

Let's try some more game-specific, and possibly easier questions:

16) In Legend of Mana, who is the best NPC partner you can have in terms of synchronization ability (not counting golems/monsters)?
17) In Secret of Evermore, name two places where you can permanently get stuck if you do the wrong thing.
18) In Super Mario RPG, what is the damage limit and which attack is capable of inflicting it?

Oh god, maybe I can remember some of that game. I got it and played through it and realized that it was such a terrible game. It was okay in some places though. I remember there was a part of the Verminator boss that I always got stuck and you couldn't get out and didn't remember why and then I tried to land in the ocean when I got the flying thing and I landed like you normally would at land, but I couldn't get my flying machine back and I couldn't beat the game...

16. Shoot, I know that the best monster for synchronization is Springball, but I don't know who the best NPC partner is.

18. I believe that Geno Whirl can do 9999 HPs of damage. I guess it's the equivalent of Ayla's Bronze Fist critical. I always use Bowser though.

Lady Blackpearl. Synchro: Attack Gauge Full (so you can nail special after special after special). Too bad the time you have her as a partner is quite limited. :(

I'm pretty sure you actually mean "name 3 RPGs", but I'll go with your wording here.

Final Fantasy VII, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Lucasarts PC version), Grim Fandango.

Name three games that have gotten a 10/10 score in the respected UK videogame magazine Edge (sup OP~)

Nope.. by no means did i mean "3 rpgs". i've noticed that the rpg genre has been quite popular, so i didn't close off any other genre to that question although i think this scenario is more popular in rpgs, so more power to ya!

about that trivia of yours... i couldn't do it without some research, so i've technically conceded (;_; ). I'm kinda surprised...

Pokémon Stadium had the Drowzee game which was basically a rhythm thingy.

As for the second part of that...hm. That's hard. Some games include Japanese people as the protagonist, but many seem to have that protagonist leave home and save the world or something.

Ah, but I was hoping people would research in the first place.
It's pretty common for a US player to now have heard about Edge at all, so if they bother researching the matter, all the better =D

You have a point though, with the only exception being HL2 in a way, though I'm not so sure PC even has a lifespan like a console.

Edge tends to look back in retrospect to its old reviews (such as in the 100 reviews special issue), and at least with the "perfect" 10s, I personaly think they've all stood the test of time extremely well.

The Contra III/Super Probotector boss, in a sense.

First you take out the eyes, then the forehead, then fight the brain that morphs into multiple different forms depending where you shoot (I think there were eight forms) and once you beat the brain and grab on to the chopper, if you're playing on Hard mode, the brain will attack you one more time in a final form and you have to fight it as the chopper rises up from the cave.

24) Name a RPG with a cipher system in place.
25) Name an RPG where the opposite of "evil" magic is not "holy" magic.
26) Name 3 rpgs and respective examples of their dungeons where you are sent back to the start of the dungeon if you take a wrong path.

26...I believe there's some forest in Seiken Densetsu 3 that does that. Moonlight forest? The one where you have to follow the pink flowers to get to the elven village.
Lost Woods in Zelda, Ocarina of Time does it I think. Or is Zelda not RPGish enough?

Well, it can't beat the mediocrity of mine. I'm sure everybody's heard just about all of those games at one point or another, but regardless. It seems that the activity in this thread has died off so I'll attempt to jump start it again.

Specific Game Questions:

1. In Final Fantasy IV, how many characters can you control that die off sometime in the game?

2. In Final Fantasy V, how many times do you fight X-Death, in one form or another?

3. In Final Fantasy VI, How many Atma Weapons are there?

4. In Final Fantasy VII, name 2 places where the music changes permenantly as you progress in the game.

5. In Final Fantasy VIII, which issue of Weapons Monthly gives you access to the Cutting Trigger?

6. In Final Fantasy IX, how much mail must you deliver in order to revive Mognet Central?

And Some General Questions....

1. Name 3 Racing Games which have a temporary shield pickup available (different series please). These protect you for 1 hit.

2. Name 3 FPS games that start you off with anything besides a Pistol/Blaster/whatever variation. (again, different series)

3. Name 3 RTS games which have more than 3 resources you can gather.

4. Name 3 RPG games where you need to buy ammuntion to use ranged weapons. (i.e. arrows)

5. Name 3 Strategy RPGs special characters that you fight more than once.

That should get us started.

Spoiler:
I'll say 4: Tellah, Palom, Porom, Cecil's dark side. I could be wackiernad say Rydia's young self to make 5. I'm not counting Yang.

Mimic, Dancer (?)

4. Name 3 RPG games where you need to buy ammuntion to use ranged weapons. (i.e. arrows)
Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Unlimited SaGa (don't remember)

5. Name 3 Strategy RPGs special characters that you fight more than once.

After calculating the current alpha list scores (speaking of which, it's never too late to submit a list) , i came across a problem on how to deal with a violator of the "series rule". if you wouldn't mind, would the current participants please refer to the front page and answer the questions under the dupe game list spoiler tab <3

while reading through the results i thought about the games i was thinking about before i submitted my 26 and realized that a handful of them were on my list before i finalized it. and also, i noticed that several of the games listed were some of my favorites <3 i like this gaming crowd.

to change up the flow of this, we could recycle the "list x game" questions that didn't get answered with the games we had in mind when they were thought up and pin the "ideal" answers as they come.
any thoughts on this?

oh yeah.

I'd say go by Genre. Games that play alike are considered the same game. So basically, what I'm saying is 1 series is Mario Platformers, 1 series is Mario Sports, another is Mario RPGs, etc. Games with different protagonists but same cast is considered a different series.

Samurai Showdown, Samurai Showdown IV, Kirby Superstar (Samurai Kirby)

I like the ideal answers idea.
BTW, for 25) I had SaGa Frontier (mind vs. evil magic)

Now to test your logic, these aren't hard, but just to see if you can interpret correctly:
27) Name a game in which the ultimate attack does exactly the same amount of damage as a normal attack is capable of doing.
28) Name any character that can have about three weapons on him/her at one time. (FPSs don't count)

27. That's an oddly phrased question. An ultimate attack that does exactly the same amount of damage a normal attack is capable of doing? Usually, normal attacks have a range of damage they're capable of inflicting. How can an ultimate attack deal exactly a "range" of damage? I guess it would make sense if both attacks did the same range of damage, but I dunno.

28. Another odd question. Any character in Fire Emblem, for starters. Units are allowed to carry five items of any type, so you can carry three weapons if you want.

3. Name three RPGs that require (or allow) some form of timed hits in battle.
4. Name two games that allow you to unlock game content with currency earned ingame.

Not sure about 27, but 28 is vague. Any character from Shining Force can hold 3 weapons at a time, but as far as equipping ALL three weapons, the Golems from Legend of Mana can have 3 weapons.

2 Damage Dealing, Non-Killing summons would include Diablo (FFVIII) and I think Remora (FFV) counts too if you get hit, you do lose HP, but at a steady pace and that doesn't kill you outright.

Come to think of it, these are all vague.

Well, this is tricky...I'm not sure if you mean the enemies can use your spells or something like enemy skill/blue magic. Or if both you and your enemy share the same skill pot. I'm saying like Seiken Densetsu 3 as Duran vs. the Black Knight where you can use Whrilwind Sword/Eruption Sword, etc or Angela's Holy Ball/Diamond Missile, etc or Hawk's Jutsus that mimic those of Bill&Ben or hell, even Carlie's Heal Light that is used by enemies.

Advance Wars was one of the games I had in mind, but Soul Calibur III isn't a strategy game. (I'm guessing it has something similar to Soul Calibur II's Weapon Master mode?)

Mithos Jul 20, 2006 08:28 AM

You do capture and liberate strongholds.
It's not a strategy game as such, but superficially, it appears as one. Basically, you have a team of up to five (or something) men, and you move them around a map (there are a limited number of routes, but whatever).
The enemy also has an army, and basically wants to destroy all of your guys/strongholds.

So you have to sort of move around and kill stuff, but in an encounter, you can choose to fight it in the normal engine.

I wouldn't accept it as a valid answer though. ><;;

Summonmaster Jul 20, 2006 12:47 PM

Don't think too hard:
27) Final Fantasy IX, damage cap is 9999, so any ultimate attack (Ark, Madeen, Doomsday) will easily do exactly the same amount of damage as a normal attack is capable of doing (eg. Steiner -> Attack).
28) Zoro from One Piece (Three Swords), and most SaGa series characters (can equip 3-4 weapons at once).
29) I had Diablos in mind, and I made a mistake with this question (sorry!). I thought Celesdue was also in the strain of gravity attack based on current hp. I didn't know Remora sapped health a bit too, although it would be hard to tell if he did.

30) Name a game with 5 tiers of elemental magic.
31) Name 3 dragon summons that are not any form of "Bahamut". BoF series' dragon transformations don't count.
32) Name two different games (different series please) with fighting pandas in them.

Name 3 dragon summons that are not any form of "Bahamut".
According to Isaiah, Leviathan is a dragon. ^_^

Would you count that? (Leviathan from Final Fantasy).

Stretching the definition of summon, you do sorta summon Dragonite in Pokémon, right? ><;;

(A tad off topic - This might sound weird, but Dalkaen, were you on a forum called Fool's Gold by any chance?)

Summonmaster Jul 21, 2006 10:11 AM

I did have Leviathan in mind, but Dragonite is really clever out-of-the-box thinking :). I actually had one game in mind for each of these, so these must have been stumpers:

32) Name two different games (different series please) with fighting pandas in them.

30) Disgaea (eg. fire, mega fire, giga fire, omega fire, tera fire)
31) Leviathan, Valitora, Garuda...all from Bahamut Lagoon (full of non "Bahamut" dragons)
32) Tekken 5 (!), and Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle (Genma)

Here are some much easier ones:
33) Name two fighting games with Quest modes
34) Name two fighting games where you can accessorize your characters
35) Name a game with "Nibelung Valesti" in it that is not any form of Valkyrie Profile.

You can't forget the Tekken series. If you want an individual game, then Tekken 3 had the panda in it (if I remember right - what was its name again?).

And yeah, Leviathan is a dragon.

Mithos Jul 21, 2006 10:19 AM

33) Tekken has its Tekken Force, which is sort of a questing thing.
Soul Calibur has had its share of questing. Weapon Master mode and what not.

34) Soul Calibur III has a make-your-own mode, which is sort of accessorising them. Hmm...I'm not sure about any others though. :x

35) Chibi Lenneth is a guest star in Star Ocean, Till the End of Time, and tries to cleave into your flesh in the post-game.
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/8...alkyriecs2.jpg
Awe.

[edit] Or were you looking for a totally non-Lenneth Nibelung Valesti, rather than just non-VP?

KazeJiyuu Jul 21, 2006 10:36 AM

33) Tekken and Street Fighter Alpha 3

34)Tekken and Dead or Alive...and Rumble Roses too I guess.

35) Star Ocean Till the End of Time and Radiata Stories

Summonmaster Jul 21, 2006 10:54 AM

Perfect KazeJiyuu!

Other acceptable answers are:
33) Ehrgeiz, Tobal No. 1
34) Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution

A bit harder then:
36) Name 3 fighting games with Joke Weapons.
37) Name a fighting game that can have 8 characters on-screen at once.
38) Name two fighting game characters that have a small child following them in battle.

37. Tekken 4 (Tekken Force Mode)

I dunno if it's right, but let's see:

Alien Brain (Metal Slug 3)
Core Bydo (R-Type Final)
Dark Force (Phantasy Star 4)
Mother Brain (Super Metroid)
Sulphur (Phantom Brave)

Omnislash124 Jul 21, 2006 06:19 PM

Final Fantasy Tactics. They appear sometimes when enemies' corpses disappear.

Summonmaster Jul 24, 2006 12:07 PM

Nice. Slightly different from my other similar question.
I'll say Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (50) to add to that, but I can't think of any others yet.

For 41), Vandal Hearts would be accepted again as well.

42) Name 3 instances in which spells can be casted at no mp cost, or are free of expenditure of any sort.
43) Name any 3 puzzle games in which you must link a minimum of 4 units together to clear them.
44) Name an attack and it's user that is capable of hitting for damage rounded upwards to a million points of damage.

Can't think of one for 44.

42: Manafont- FFXI, hmmm selphie limit break... damn can't think of another one >.<

43: I would have said Meteos but the minimum is 3...

44: I can only think of Freya in Valkyrie Profile, if you boost her well with some item and do her attack Eternal Strike she can hit for more then a million

Summonmaster Jul 24, 2006 07:31 PM

42) Yes, Angel Wing was my direct thought, but other acceptable answers:
FF X - Lulu (Fury), SaGa Frontier (crown to make 1mp spells free)
43) Doh! Tetris is a good answer, but Lumines is another good answer, as well as Puyo Pop Fever or Kirby's Avalanche.
44) Great! Freya's Ether Strike was the only answer I could think of too.

Let's get back into the groove:
45) Name 3 games with instances of gender confusion (cross dressers, transvetites, certain scenes, etc. all count).
46) Name 3 games with scenes of eyes opening over a black background.
47) Name 2 games where you can visibly see your weapons change appearance depending on what is equipped.

46. FEAR has that at a point in the game, not the beginning, when you get knocked out by Paxton Fettel near the beginning. Quake 4 has it....
Spoiler:
when you get "Strogg-ified"

Clamjouster Jul 26, 2006 01:11 PM

these are for summonmaster's questions.

I can answer 53... 52 just sounds a bit too vague Summon master, what counts as a poison attack, actually making the other ingest poison or something? I guess I could mention the duel mode in Tenchu wrath of heaven you can poison people in it with certain things like poison rice, etc. I guess Samurai Showdown? well those are my guesses for 52, just let me know if those count.

Now for 53, Gundam endless Waltz(not sure if I have the title wrong here) heavy arms has a ton of basic attacks with the guns(so do most mobile suits) second proposal would be Bushido Blade 2 and those 2 characters that can only use guns, third game would be X-men mutant academy or any of those 3d X-men fighting games, talking about mystike specifically since she mostly uses her gun.

Don't think too hard Juanzen :) KazeJiyuu seems to be thinking along the same lines as me, yet again!

For 52, I totally forgot about Genan and Earthquake! Lin from KoF and Rikuo from Darkstalkers were my top choices.
For 53, I too had BBHood and Cable in mind. Gundam counts too, and Katze from Bushido Blade as well as Mystique (maybe Bishop). Vermillion from Battle Arena Toshinden 2 comes to mind.

you need to post a question Elixer, but since you didn't...

We <3 Katamari and Rad Racer maybe? In Rad Racer the game is defaulted to no music, which is changed to one of 3 songs during gameplay if you press down on the d-pad...

- EVO since you start out as a fish and only have one specific window of opportunity in the game to become a human. Cubivore would be good too since you're a cube.

Can you rephrase that? Do you mean neither turnbased nor real time? and Define "Battle".

Summonmaster Jul 30, 2006 04:18 PM

From that, I'm going to name games that are in false time then, since that's the closest kind of answer I can perceive:
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2
(Unless you are thinking of three games in particular)

For the NES, the first Zelda game, the cartridge was gold. On the N64, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil came on a black cart, limited edition of the Zelda games for N64 were gold. On Game Boy, the Pokemon Blue/Red/Green/Yellow and some others. Oh yeah, Killer Instinct came on black on SNES.

- Final Fantasy VIII
- Final Fantasy IX

I remember seeing a gold Zelda game, it probably is the second one, I can't recall which one it was.

good idea electric_eye!

SM61) Name 3 sumo wrestlers in fighting games

Dalkaen Jul 30, 2006 10:16 PM

SM61) Bo Rai'Cho from Mortal Kombat: Deception uses "Sumo" as his primary fighting style.

SM61)E.Honda (Street Fighter 2), Ganryu (Virtua Fighter 3)

Tortalius Jul 30, 2006 10:48 PM

I was thinking ATB like FF7 or FF8.

60:
Supernova from Sephiroth in FF7.
Guided Missile from Omega in FFXI.
Wisecrack from a Colibri boss in FFXI.
Inertial Cancel from Jeremy in Wild Arms IV.
Space Distortion from Scythe's girl friend in Wild Arms IV.
"Formless Attack" from the final boss of Earthbound.

Question.

All right, name me 2 games whose plots turn out to be nothing but dreams.

Dalkaen Aug 1, 2006 04:19 AM

Super Mario Bros. 2 is one of them.

Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse on the SNES would be another.

These questions deal with stereotype breakers:

Actually Yama, you missed one. TECHNICALLY it would not count, but at the same time it does.

Tengu Slash from Rockman & Forte. If you dash through the enemy, it does damage. Though it can be thrown too.

Dalkaen Aug 3, 2006 11:57 PM

Perhaps you should add it? Wikipedia is freely edited, you know.

8. Name three RPGs in which there is an option to be fully healed after every battle.

Omnislash124 Aug 4, 2006 08:54 AM

Um....an option to be healed? I dunno about that. But if you're being healed after EVERY battle, that would be Shining Force, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Bahamut Lagoon. Actually, just about every Strategy RPG.

Summonmaster Aug 4, 2006 02:59 PM

One of the Wild Arms (I think Alter Code F) had a special bar for that purpose especially. Yeah the Vit gauge it was.

As for SM64), confusion seals your techniques instead of making you attack allies in Disgaea.

OK, here's two more.
Name 3 games where at least fully half of the game is played in self-contained flashback (that is to say, MGS3 doesn't count merely because it's in the 1960s - I'm thinking more along the lines of 'what happened last week' in the game's own timeline).

Okay, I can't think of three, but I know Eternal Darkness is almost entirely like that. I would say probably 75% of the game is learning what happened before it started. Someone else will have to add two.

SonicPanda Aug 5, 2006 08:49 PM

The third one I had in mind was:

Spoiler:
Vagrant Story. One of the opening teasers reveals that the whole thing happened 'last week' and there is a manhunt out for Ashley.

Nintendonomicon Aug 5, 2006 10:27 PM

I probably should have excluded tactical RPGs from that question. I was thinking more along the lines of Chrono Cross (it allows you to automatically be healed based on Elements you have equipped and items you have in stock) and Tales of Symphonia with the cooking thing.

The Dungeons & Dragons arcade games technically if you use 1 credit. But if that doesnt' fly, then I'll go with Contra as I simply cannot dodge that well. Same goes for any game where you dodge crap flying at you, like the Raiden games.

6. CORRECT: Wario Ware, inc. for GBA

I think #2 is Romancing SaGa 3, and I know #3 is Treasure of the Rudras.

#4 is driving me nuts.

This is neat. I think I'll go get some pics myself.

Summonmaster Aug 21, 2006 10:21 PM

1) unsolved
2) correct! Here the party fights the grotesque Algernon.
3) correct! Just a random battle with the mage lead character.
4) YAY! I knew this was out of context enough.

tommboi Aug 22, 2006 12:39 AM

#4 is terranigma.

Summonmaster Aug 22, 2006 11:32 AM

1) correct!..the strange attacks and half naked people give it away.
4) correct!..took this at wall at the bird sanctuar to give a confusing texture.

Someone else should post pics before I hog them all :)

1) This is one of the later Bomberman games, but I don't know if it's Mega Bomberman or Super Bomberman 4 or maybe even 5 ._.

2) I'm not 100% sure of this one either. I know the game, but I can't remember the name. Panel De Pon or Puchi Carat. Not Land Maker, though.

tommboi Aug 24, 2006 05:14 AM

#3 looks like bahamut lagoon, not sure though.

I'm pretty sure it's Panel de Pon.

I love the multiple guesses, and they were actually right.
1) correct, Bomberman 5 it is, in the traffic stage
2) correct, Panel de Pon sports Seren, who was replaced by Raphael Raven
3) correct, Bahamut Lagoon boasts Rush in the story sequence of Chapter 4

Celes from FFVI doesn't count, and neither do evil clones of yourself... speaking of which...

Name 5 games where you fight clones of yourself/party members.

Um....let's see, the first one....

Final Fantasy VI (Shadow, you have to fight in the Colleseum to get him)
Final Fantasy VIII (Seifer starts in your party, which, you fight later on)
Final Fantasy IX (Zidane and Amarant go 1 - on - 1.)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Gafgarion at Zirekile Falls, the Execution Site, and Lionel Castle)
Final Fantasy VII (You have to fight Yuffie before you can get her....Not sure if that counts)

For the second one....

Final Fantasy IX (You can fight clones of yourself in Oeilvert against the stone guys, forgot their name)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (I think the shape shifters can turn into your characters too.)

and I can't think of any more.....

You didn't think about Mega Man and Mega Man 3? And there's Wild Arms where you fight doppelgangers in that place that you end up after the Demon's Lab.

Oh....I was thinking RPGs still....since you said party members, and I've never actually played Wild Arms.

Well, let's try this, since I'm a huge Mario Kart fan....name 5 Mario Kart items that were in one of the games, but was dropped another iteration that came after it.

I got 4:

Final Fantasy IX: the epitaphs make clones of your party

Legend of Zelda: OoT: Dark link FTW!

Metal slug 3: Last level, in zombie form. Coolest ending ever.

Ninja Gaiden Black: Evil ryu anyone?

Lessee.

Name three games where the protagonist unknowingly aids the forces of evil.

Final Fantasy IV (Cecil is a Dark Knight for the beginning portion of the game)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Ramza sides with Dycedarg in the beginning, and all that stuff about being used......)

And I suppose, if we're not restricted to RPGs.....

Halo: Combat Evolved (Master Chief aids the monitor for a level or 2)

and my question still stands btw....maybe I didn't make it clear...

Name 5 Mario Kart Items that were in one game, but were left out of the proceeding game.

Fallout 1: (Optional) When you buy the water caravan for your Vault. Makes it easier for the mutants to find it.
Doom 3: (Optional)If you choose to call the fleet down to Mars. Let the Demons head to earth.

Those are optional though, in most games nowadays, they allow you to side with the side of evil, given the choice. Unwillingly would be the keyword here too....Cecil aided Golbez thinking that it was right. Wouldn't that justify it as unknowingly siding with the evil side? I don't think it was until Cecil entered the castle (Baron I think it was) again that he found out that Golbez was actually evil, with the kidnapping of Rosa and turning his friend Kain against him and shit....

As for the pictures, the only one that looks familiar is #2, but I can't remember the name of the game for the life of me. The scene is from the beginning moments of the game when some random dude kidnaps the princess, setting up the story.

Anyways, friendly reminder.....

Name 5 Mario Kart items that have been in one game, but dropped in the proceeding game.

Summonmaster Sep 5, 2006 10:41 AM

1) Looks similiar to Ghouls and Ghosts with the red arremer sort of creatures and the knight guy, but I'm not entirely sure.

Duck King Sep 5, 2006 10:57 AM

1. Xexyz
2. Legend of Kage
5. King Arthur's World

Summonmaster Nov 4, 2006 09:26 PM

I wanted to try this type of question which I don't think was presented anywhere earlier in the thread:

What is the link between each of the three characters within each set of characters?
Set I) Momoko (King of Fighters XI), Eddy Gordo (Tekken 3), Bob Wilson (Fatal Fury?)
Set II) Kratos Auron (Tales of Symphonia), Jecht (Final Fantasy X), Gawain (Radiata Stories)
Set III) Amaterasu (Okami), Ark (Terranigma), Will (Illusion of Gaia)

Let this die again if no one wants to answer.

Omnislash124 Nov 4, 2006 09:38 PM

I'd like to revive this thread too, but I dunno the answer to that question.

Summonmaster Nov 4, 2006 11:37 PM

Actually, better wording:

Q: What do these three characters have in common?
Zidane, Squall, Cloud
A: All three are Final Fantasy protagonists.

Duck King Nov 5, 2006 10:31 AM

I)
Spoiler:
They all have the same fighting style; capoeira?

III)
Spoiler:
They're all blonde?

Summonmaster Nov 5, 2006 02:41 PM

I) is correct. Capoeira is the fighting style they all share in common.

II) is true...but there is an even better and very specific link between all of these. I guess you'd have to have beaten each of these games to know the link.

III) Amaterasu is far from blonde ;), and it has to do more so with the themes of these games.

nabhan Nov 5, 2006 02:44 PM

II

Spoiler:
They're all fathers of the protagonist?

Summonmaster Nov 5, 2006 03:08 PM

Yep that's it!
Spoiler:
Kratos is Lloyd's father.
Jecht is Tidus' father.
Gawain is Gantz's father.

and you all fight them towards the end of the game.

I'm going to assume no one is going pose any further questions as of now, so:

Set III) see last page.
Set IV) Kalas (Baten Kaitos), Kira (Vandal Hearts), Gawn (Wild Arms 4)
Set V) Vyse (Skies of Arcadia), B. Jenet (Garou: Mark of the Wolves), Captain Kidd (World Heroes 2)

evilboris Nov 5, 2006 04:28 PM

3) is my favourite Saturn game, Baku Baku.
I'm going to guess Rampage: World Tour for 9).
Picture 7 is really interesting...:o

No. Hard Pass. Nov 5, 2006 05:05 PM

4) is Dragon Force, one of the greatest (probably THE greatest) Saturn games ever made. In this case, we see the hilarious Rudger fighting the ever-so-boring Hikkis.

evilboris Nov 5, 2006 05:17 PM

Pic #7 is actually a beat em up... I think. It played like that for the 10 minutes I allowed it to melt my brain (it had seriously absurd scenes, even by absurd-like-a-japanese-game standards).

TheKnightOfNee Nov 5, 2006 05:19 PM

For the Saturn games.

1. Burning Rangers
2. ...Winter Heat?

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 5, 2006 05:25 PM

#7 is the awesomeness that is PuLiRuLa.

99% sure #9 is Rampage World Tour, unless there was another Rampage game for the Saturn that I don't know about.

evilboris Nov 7, 2006 06:04 AM

All guesses are correct so far by the way.

TheKnightOfNee Nov 7, 2006 04:03 PM

#5 is Cotton 2, one of those silly in-between level dialogues that I can't understand.
