Rocky Balboa (2006)
Well the trailer is online: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/rock...8D9XeeLAZfVXcA
Man I am a big fan of the Rocky movies and have been excited for this one for a long time now. After watching the trailer I am even more excited, it seems to have the feel from the older movies "not 5" which is a good thing. Even though this probally won't do well in theaters and people will make endless rocky is too old jokes I could care less! |
All the Rocky's are awesome and Rocky 5, I found, was a breath of fresh air. I liked the trailer, but I am not sure how it's going to turn out, it looks to be sticking to the old Rocky formula instead of trying something new.
|
Hey as long as it has the dramatic fight, and the training montage I AM THERE! It's gonna be amazing to see 50/60 something year old Stallone get in shape.
|
Actor :

promotion for the movie took a hit when Antonio Tarver (the ex-champ that plays Mason Dixon) lost last month lol.
As a boxing fan i really like how they made it all serious with the hbo ppv things and they even got the real commentators and stuff. But rocky is always kickass so i cant wait for this one. |
Wow he is pretty big and in shape ESPECIALLY for his age. CAN'T WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS!

Sad. |
I've only see parts of Rocky V because it got boring just having him train some punk to fight. Yes, punk b/c I did turn the television on and caught those two getting into a serious fight with one another...you don't EVER think you can beat Rocky like that. However, does anyone know how he got over his brain damage illness that kept giving him the shakes?
It's sad to see that the original Adrienne isn't going to be in this film. I thought this film was going to be a complete joke and was going to suck even worse than the fifth, but after seeing the previews, I have a renewed faith in the film and totally psyched about Christmas :). |
Yeah Adrienne is supposed to be dead in this film which kinda sucks but adds a lot to the story.
|
Adrienne is dead? Weep. I think it was Rocky IV where Rocky mentioned to Paulie that "he had to marry Adrienne because he knocked her up." Wicked sad, man. Why did they do that.
I love all of the Rocky movies with a passion. Especially Rocky IV. I found Rocky V a little less awesome than the previous 4, but what are you going to do. Sly is really playing Rocky. Holy shit. This is going to be fucking awesome. |
Just a little one while waiting.
Anyway I got the sad impression that Rocky will die in this one. The producers wanted him to die in the previous one already. |
Never saw Rocky V. Did he develop punch-drunk or something like that?
Either way, this looks fantastic. Gonna kick ass to see old Stallone pull off a movie like this. Also, I like how in-shape he looks. This looks like a nice film, and I don't say that about many Stallone films. Rocky V I heard was a step down, and Rambo's went down the shitter fast. Hope this'll be as good as it looks. |
yeah he got punch-drunk, brain damage and the whole shibangabang.
And that was the first thing i thought about when i heard about this. Realisticly he shouldnt even be able to walk normally. |
Rocky is going to lose that last fight. It's going to be a close one, but he's going to lose. I know it.
It just makes the most sense. Hey, if he dies, at least we know it's the end of the Rocky franchise, and all great things must end. |
Am I the only one who's sick of the Rocky movies? I watched a few of them the other day (I think we watched the beginning of the one where he's retarded) and thought they were hilariously bad. This trailer looks better than the original films, but I can't get over Stallone's 'acting.' It's because of this that I can't ever take these films seriously.
|
Probably from all the grunts and hits he takes , kurad ;p .
I'll be honest. I think I'm going to enjoy this film a little more than V. I thought this movie would focus a little more on his son but oh well. Can't get enough of good ol Sly from Cobra >=p. I think this blonde girl might be Adrian's friend from her workplace and he pumps rocky up with confidence ;p. I'll probably never get over the Rocky movies. I grew up watching it over and over u.u. Yeah, We'll be seeing a shitload of marathons coming november |
More importantly, is "Eye of the tiger" going to be played? And it better not be some alternative-rock cover either, that would probably set me off the most.

Then again, I'm normally not a fan of covers. |
Why the Rocky V hate? Rocky III was clearly the worst. Clubber (Mr. T) was the worst and most disinteresting opponent Rocky has fought, although I did like how Apollo trains Rocky after Mickey died.
|
Quote:
I mean Mr. fucking T. Taunting Rock out of retirement. Trying to fuck Adrian. Pushing down Mickey causing him to have a heart attack and die. I mean this is where he launched the best saying in the history of anything. "I pity the fool!". My prediction?! PAIN!" |
News Reporter: So Clubber do you accept the challenge for a rematch from balboa?
Clubber: Challenge? No I don't accept the challenge cause he ain't no challenge, but I wouldn't mind whoopin on the foo some moe. Love that part. Or this one News guy: Clubber what to expect the outcome to be for the fight? Clubber: PAAAAIIIIN! |
I add nothing to topics!
Anyone else agree that the first movie was the only good one? It had the such an amazing and emotional message to it. Which was just ruined in the second one. And it progressively got worse till Rocky V.
Now I've read in interviews Sylvester Stallone was talking about how he wanted to make this more like the first movie. And also make it a lot more realistic. So I'm kind of looking forward to it. lol, I was convinced by Rocky III that him and Apollo were a gay couple. |
No I love 1-4 and think 5 is ok but I love 1 and 2 for different reasons then I love 3 and 4.
|
I liked all the movies except 5. Rocky I had a powerful message and Rocky II had a great underdog feeling to it. Rocky III I rarely ever get to see it, but it shows that you have to keep fighting to keep your dreams alive and not get too cocky, and some of the guest star roles of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T were interesting. Rocky IV was my favorite because it was so dramatic and had that true feel of good guy vs. bad guy (Draco is truly the most evil bad guy of the series). Also, the message that Rocky gives at the end may seem corny to some, but it was sort of meaningful.
Rocky V, I just wasn't a fan of the parts that I saw. |
I found Clubber really boring, I dunno maybe it's just me.
And with Rocky V, I felt it was alot more personal and beating Tommy Gunn meant alot more to Rocky. It also brought Rocky back to his roots and away from his "god-like" status, he wasn't beating Tommy to avenge Mickey or to change Russia, he was doing it for himself. It was a change, but I felt a welcome one. Double Post: LOL, I just read this on wikipedia, "Mr. T is currently training for an appearance in Rocky Balboa, the sixth installment in the Rocky series, where he reprises his role as Clubber Lang, though he will appear as a commentator only." |
Rocky 4 was defintely the best one of the series in my opinion. Now I might be biased because that was really the first rocky movie I saw, and I never really gave the others a chance and never really watched them the whole way through. But from the feedback here on the boards it seems as though a lot of people agree that rocky IV was one of the better ones and hey at least it had the best villain
|
nah man, rocky 1 was the best. The rest were good but rocky 1 had a special feeling to it.

I've never seen a Rocky movie. This trailer has got me interested. I think I'll go watch them now.
|
#1 is probably the best. I rather like how they keep the boxing lingo/logistics in it (ie: Rocky being a southpaw and nobody likes fighting lefties, etc). #4 I've seen *the* most, hands-down.
Mr. T is making an appearance?! Holyshit. Thought he and Vanilla Ice went in to the used car business for good... =p |
You can't put Mr. T in the same category as that fool
|
Spoiler:
Spoiler: |
The movie was great I thought, acting was good, story was decent and the pacing was nice. It was more like the first 2 movies where it's more story throughout the film and a big fight at the end. Definitly reedemed itself after Rocky V, any Rocky fan will like this I think.
|
As a huge Rocky fan, I was both highly anticipating this, and a little skeptical.
Too be honest, I havent had this much fun at a movie in quite some time. The final bout is absolutely everything that you'd expect from a Rocky movie, and Sly worked his ass off. Thematically it's much more similiar to the first movie than any of the sequals. You could even go as far as to call it a direct sequal to Rocky. Not that it pretends that the other 4 (except for Rocky V) didn't happen, it just very closely resembles the tone of the first one much more than any of the others. Spoiler:
I really enjoyed the nods to the earlier films. The egg drinking, staircase running, meat boxing, and the training montage. Thank god there was a training montage. Overall I enjoyed it. It's not the best film in the series (that's Rocky I), but it's probably number 2. Definately reccommend. |
Yeah I also loved how none of the music was new, it was all from the other films just a bit remasterd it seems.
|
Did it start with the scrolling white-on-black title cards like the other movies?
|
Yup, said Rocky Balboa in white or yellow on a black backround with the music playing like always =]
|
Definately a great and last Rocky movie. I sat through the whole credits to listen to some original tracks.
Congrats to Sly for making the effort to look that damn tough. I was hoping for an appearance by Clubber Lang XD. Now onto the 4th Rambo >=] |
I saw this recently and I didn't like it very much. It was alright until the actual fight. That was way too fake. I guess I'm too used to watching real fighting in MMA.
|
this is really a series that should have died after part 2. but unfortunately it suffered the sequel infection, the disease of being copied to death
|
I loved it. The people next to me probably thought I was crazy, but they were doing the same thing :).
"I own two watches!" |
If you liked any of the Rocky movies, you really owe it to yourself to see this movie. What was great about the entire movie is that it actually felt like you were watching a true sequel to the first movie.
You can kind of tell that this is how Stallone wanted Rocky V to be, but he kind of fucked that up in the end. In any case, I felt that dialogue was pretty strong with only a few lines coming off as either confusing or foolish. The writing was just as sharp as the first movie. I also liked how Mason wasn't a villain like Rocky III-V had, and was just another boxer trying to prove he wasn't a bum. It would have been nice to hear some new music to the movie, but the renditions of the old tunes were really nicely done. Everyone in the theater I was in was really into the movie and I think most people enjoyed themselves. This movie is a satisfying conclusion to the series. One of the best. |
This movie is amazing! It felt just like Rocky 1, I personally loved that they re-used the same music and the same clothes etc. Being a boxer myself the boxing was still kinda lol, but a lot better then the other crap around. The whole HBO thing was a nice touch for boxing fans. Although a lot of boxing fans are laughing at Antonio Tarver (who played Mason, he's not a HW to start with.. and then he lost really bad two months ago lol).
But I'm just happy there is another movie so I can forget Rocky five. Waiting for the complete box-set so I can finally buy these movies. |
I enjoyed it. I love boxing movies. This one wasn't as good as the first one (obviously). But, it was a good movie for an upgraded installment. There were a lot of encouraging moments throughout. I also liked the fight. This is the way to end the Rocky series, not with him acting as mentor for some punk kid and fighting him in a street brawl.
|
Just finished watching it, and I have to say its pretty darn good. Much better than I had expected. I really enjoyed how they set up the fight as an HBO broadcast, made it feel much more real. I wish I had been in the crowd. :D
|
so i've never seen any of the rocky movies..... but i hear the last ones really good. should i start at the beginning and watch all of them?

It's nice to go to the movies and not regret shelling out the cash (especially with the prices here). I thought it was very well done. Sly was in great shape. I'm curious as to whether that 315 lb clean and press was legit. I would guess they used at least a fake plate on either side, but then again it's fun to believe sometimes.
|
I saw this back before Christmas and thought it was great. Definitely more fun than I've had at the movies for a long while. It also helped that I had been to the Art Museum the day before and got to run up the steps in the pouring rain. :p
Did anyone else feel like the only reason why the girl's son was black was so the movie wouldn't only have stereotypical black characters? |
Wow, I haven't seen anyone in this thread that's seen the movie, bash it.
I was quite skeptical and thought this movie would bomb out, but it seems as though there might just be a worthwhile flick to shell out nearly $15 bucks to see. I mean, it better be worth it. |
Well, I guess that would depend if A: You like Sly, B: Like boxing, and C: Have faith...
But, yeah, I suggest anyone to see it... Although it is probably best to start at one and get to 6 |
I dunno. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't help but feel like this was all about Stallone's middle age crisis refecting itself upon the movie.
The training montage was too short and didn't really have any feeling except for a certain amount of nostalgia. The fight itself wasn't too exceiting either. It was better than V but, on the other hand, I didn't like that one very much. Verdict: Not bad, but it's still a movie I could have been without. 2/5 |
I saw this movie last saturday, and while it wasn't groundbreaking stuff, it was a hell of a lot more enjoyable than Rocky V. Stallone gave a very convincing performance I thought, and the supporting cast were just as good.
I think Stallone got it spot on, and given that this movie could have ended up being the biggest movie flop ever, it took away the sour taste that the fifth film seemed to leave in everybody's mouth (well, Rocky fans anyway). But I think even a person who hasn't seen the previous movies would probably enjoy it. One of the few I would actually go and see again, because the atmosphere in the cinema was pretty electric. |
I purchased the Rocky Anthology DVD set at Target this past weekend and had my marathon. Those movies give me a larger appreciation for Rocky Balboa, not because they're bad or anything like that, but because I could tell real passion was put into writing and filming it. My friend, who hadn't even seen any of them, managed to piece the grand scheme of things together well enough and liked it.
Things have changed for me watching the first five. While Rocky 5 is still the shame (George Washington Duke, among other things... WTF?) for me, I found myself not caring for Rocky 2 as much as I did years ago. Rocky 3 is still my favorite ("There is no tomorrow!") and Rocky 4 may as well have been sold in the Fitness section of all video stores. What a hell of a saga. |
Rocky Balboa comes out Thursday here and my friends and I are planning to watch all 6 in succession. It's probably going to be the greatest day of the whole year.
