The Chappelle Show: The lost episodes

Well the first episode of "season 3" went on the air last night. Without Dave himself, instead Charlie Murphy and Ashy Larry hosted the show. The sketches were cool althought some of them seemed to lack a ending, like the final punchline wasnt recorded. They still had that chappelle feel to it though. It's ashame that it's only three episodes but what can you do.

Discuss bitches.

Wojo Jul 10, 2006 08:35 AM

I saw the episode yesterday. It was pretty funny. I've been waiting for new chapelle for 2 years so it was nice to see new material again.

I thought the 2 Pac skit was the best.

Rollins Jul 10, 2006 09:38 AM

Delicious. Even without Dave there, it still had that Chappelle Show feel.

I throughly enjoyed the 2Pac skit. I couldn't stop laughing.

Ah, some Chappelle is better than no Chappelle, but too bad this is probably the last we'll see of the show in these "lost" episodes.

Zip Jul 10, 2006 10:24 AM

Well you can always get his stand-ups. Althought it's been a while since a new one has been recorded.

Dark Nation Jul 10, 2006 12:57 PM

Were these recorded earlier on when Dave was on that 'spiritual' retreat, or was this done recently, just without Chappelle's showing up?

BucPride Jul 10, 2006 01:03 PM

Chappelle was in town about a month back for standup. Too bad his tickets were 40 dollars per person, otherwise I'd have gone. I saw the lost episode last night, and thought it was pretty funny. I liked the opening skit when everyone was robbing Dave. That, and the 2pac one was great. I wish Dave would come back, I loved the Cahppelle show when it first went on air.

Eleo Jul 10, 2006 01:19 PM

Damn I missed this. Guess I'll go download it or something.

Kenichi Jul 10, 2006 01:29 PM

There's only gonna be three episodes? Sheesh. I only saw half of it last night, but I thought I'd wait until it comes to DVD so I can buy it and put it with seasons 1 and 2, but it's kinda hard to make a DVD for three episodes... Guess I'll download it too.

starslight Jul 10, 2006 01:35 PM

The first episode was great. The 2Pac and "That's the old price," sketches were hysterical.

I guess one positive to come out of the show ending is that it'll never go on too long and start to suck, as things often do.

Rockgamer Jul 10, 2006 01:39 PM

I agree with most people here that, even without Dave, last night's episode was great. Admittedly, this episode did feel a little disjointed without Dave setting up the sketches and such (though Charlie and Donnell still did a good enough job), but the sketches themselves were still fucking gold. Chappelle's Show without Chappelle is still funnier than most of the other stuff on TV, and even though it'll only be three episodes, I'll still get it on DVD (the upside to that DVD being that at least it'll be cheap).

Freddy Krueger Jul 10, 2006 01:44 PM

Saw it last night as well and thought it was funny, I really liked the "Revenge" skit. Kicking babies = win

bighunt Jul 10, 2006 01:56 PM

My favorite was the 2Pac skit. although wheeling the handicapped dude down the stairs wasn't bad either.... lol.... it was great.

Mobius One Jul 10, 2006 02:07 PM

I want that "2pac" song on my iPod. "I wrote this way back in '94, I'm not alive anymore!"

rockthepartay Jul 10, 2006 11:11 PM

It should just be Charlie Murphy.

Fuck that other guy.

Rollins Jul 10, 2006 11:16 PM

If someone can find me a link to that 2Pac sketch, I'll be forever grateful.

I know I could torrent it, but I'll hold on off for that for like...a day. See if it pops up on Youtube.

Fucking hilarious, that was.

Mucknuggle Jul 11, 2006 08:44 AM

Wow, the 2pac skit was the highlight of the show. Funny shit man.

Shenlon Jul 11, 2006 03:12 PM

I got the episode from a torrent last night. OMG was it ever hilarious
The tupac sketch had laughing with tears ^_^

I think these were the ones that Chappelle did right before he "left". I guess he had his reasons, but I wish he did it for the sake of completing the season at least (unless he did it on purpose just so he can have something to be remembered by later on).

That sketch was pretty funny, thanks for the link Shenlon!

*AkirA* Jul 12, 2006 06:15 PM

I loved the one where he had the woman divorce her husband. I wonder if thats his real wife? I know hes married to an asian woman.

The skits where great as to be expected. Chappelles mannerisms are what sells his stuff.

Eleo Jul 12, 2006 06:21 PM

Am I the only one who thought these sketches were average at best? He's done way funnier stuff than this. I didn't think the sketches were thought out well enough and were somewhat predictable.

Like the one Akira just mentioned; no shit he tricked the woman - everyone knew he was going to do that when the sketch started. Because of that, it required a more powerful punchline or a twist, which it didn't have. Certainly Chappelle is good at selling a mediocre idea with his mannerisms, but that alone wasn't enough to make these truly stand out.

Zip Jul 12, 2006 06:46 PM

Yeah i agree but i also dont think you feel like that if Dave was still on. if there was a full season he would have done more skits to mix it up and it would have stayed at the same HQ as the other seasons. Right now i think Neil is just putting everything in and trying to get some money.
And im pretty sure some of these skits would have gotten cut by Dave himself, or atleast worked on, as i said in my first post, some of them just seem to lack a ending.

I uploaded Ep. 2. Enjoy.

Gechmir Jul 13, 2006 03:01 PM

Tupac skit was "meh". Not gut-bustingly hilarious >_> I think ya'll were just lacking new Chapelle stuff. Like Eleo said, this was average or so compared to his usual material. Ah well. I wasn't one of the crazy fanboys camping this show out for more episodes.

Kenichi Jul 13, 2006 03:33 PM

Granted it's not better than some of the season 2 material, it's still Chappelle's Show. Chappelle's Show was/is the only reason I even watch television.

Zip Jul 14, 2006 11:52 AM

dvd of seaason 3 Retails..: 07/25/06. And they have all been ripped and released pre-air. gonna enjoy a nice batch of chappelle now baj.

Kenichi Jul 14, 2006 01:20 PM

Amazon is charging $16 for the lost episodes? WTF? $16 for three episodes? Season 2 is only $6 more than that and includes 14 episodes. There better be some nice extras thrown in there to make the price worth it.

Amazon might be selling it for $16, but the MSRP is $25 (only $4 less than Season 1's MSRP), which is complete bullshit. And you can check the extras out here, and as you can see, they totally don't justify the price (even at $16). This set (if you can call one disc a set) should have only been about $10, in my opinion.

Shenlon Jul 14, 2006 03:22 PM

I dont even think the dvd is worth getting, only the first episode was good and the other two really lacked in ......everything.
It didn't have any of the fun and quality of the other episodes.

*AkirA* Jul 14, 2006 03:24 PM

I might get it only to have all three DVDs. But 16 dollars is complete bullshit. Collectors be damned.

Zip Jul 14, 2006 06:32 PM

This obviously isnt even worth being called season 3, only thing that was good was the Pixie skit in ep2 (thata actully made dave stop it all). Gary coleman was pretty funny. Ep3 was pure crap tho :/. Wolfman made me laugh but the rest was meh.
oh well as long as he keeps doing stand-ups ill be happy.

Eleo Jul 15, 2006 06:42 PM

So is there going to be a real, complete, season 4 (ie the real Season 3) this Fall? Or is this the end of it all.

This is the end of it all, unless Dave decides to come back (which there are no plans for). Hence why this is called "The Lost Episodes". They're just leftovers from the past seasons. Comedy Central are trying to milk every last drop out of Chappelle before they have to go back to relying on Carlos Mencia again. *shudder*

Eleo Jul 15, 2006 07:26 PM

Carlos Mencia sucks ass.

We dont need no replacement dave especially when that replacement is just forcing out laughs.

Kenichi Jul 16, 2006 01:19 PM

"LOL LOOK IM MEXICAN HEY I EAT BEANS IM A BEANER LOL AND WHITE PPL ARE CRACKERS CUZ THEY'RE WHITE GET IT AND BLACK PEOPLE LIKE WHITE CHICKS GET IT LOL!!!!!! I R TEH FUNNIE!"

Zip Jul 16, 2006 02:07 PM

Actully there i think Dave will return, Maybe not this year but next year. It might not be Chappelle show but i think he will return to tv with some sort of show.

Ryuu Jul 16, 2006 08:21 PM

Well the second episode hasn't been funny - at all. That's pretty disappointing.

The first episode was pretty good though - the Tupac skit, as with many others, being the favorite of the episode.

Add those stupid fucking retard noises and you've got it perfect.

Actually, I don't mind his stand-up act that much, but there's no denying that Mind of Mencia was the worst thing they could have possibly replaced Chappelle with.

Considering Dave backed out on the show because he was afraid that his sketches were perpetrating stereotypes as opposed to confronting them, I wonder what he thinks of Mencia...

EDIT: Maybe if we're lucky Chappelle will come back just to get that prick off the air.

rockthepartay Jul 16, 2006 10:32 PM

Now I know exactly what Chappelle was talking about. The quality and creativity of the skits were simply not there.

It didn't help that nearly all the sketches were extremely outdated too.

This episode was not funny. Every sketch felt rushed and incomplete. This entire episode reminds me of episode 11 in Season 2, where Chappelle went over all the unfinished sketches that didn't air. In the case of that episode, however, the skits were actually funny. The commentary provided by the Chappelle made them funnier than they actually were as well.

BucPride Jul 16, 2006 11:53 PM

I laughed at some of the Gary Coleman segment, but thats about it. Episode 2 was flat, and I'm sure the third will be as well. I wish Dave would have come back for a third season, its too bad. Now all I have to watch on Comedy Central is South Park and Daily Show.

Spyer Jul 20, 2006 10:31 PM

Hmmmm... these episodes were lacking the Chappelle feel to it. Only one or two skits were really funny, such as the Tupac skit or the little imaginary person skit. Other than that, the episodes sucked, and they didn't even have Dave come on the very last episodes to say good-bye! SHIT!
