Group Summer Project v2

Alrighty, I wasn't going to lift the project because of the lower number of members participating, but someone PM'd me asking to bring it back. It's true though, quality over quantity. It's partly due to my absence here and busy'ness from work.

Anywho, I just wanted people to confirm if they're a go. I was wondering if magi is still willing to make the background, and if the theme was still camping.

What I'm confused about is dimensions, I'm not good with setting that up.

Help plz =/.

I'm confirmed myself. We need to set some due dates... I was thinking between mid July and late July.

Okay...

I am still here. sorta.

Kazyl Jun 26, 2006 11:33 PM

Yup, you know I'm still here.

guyinrubbersuit Jun 26, 2006 11:50 PM

Haha! Nice! I'm on there twice! Or perhaps it's a clone of me running around...I should stop him.

Meth Jun 29, 2006 07:46 PM

I'm still down.

Magi Jun 30, 2006 09:54 AM

Well, I guess I should have taken some initiative on this. I am starting to paint the images to use as the background, imaging a cool, lake side camping area. With ancient trees and place to explore.

Here is the work in progress. Let go camping.

Kazyl Jun 30, 2006 02:19 PM

Awesome. When the background is finished, then we can start setting up some deadlines.
Is the background just going to be a background or should we think about interacting with it when we start drawing?

How about both? Naturally if the character is just standing around, then you could just put them anywhere, however, I think it would be fun if character interact with the background also, if you guys want something else (some type of object, like grills, campfire boats or whatever) put into the the background, it would be okay too, just make the request here.

The background image would be a lot larger then it is now. Although resizing and the put togather probably need someone with photoshop. (I only have OpenCanvas, which the resizing tool isn't too great)

Kazyl Jun 30, 2006 04:01 PM

I have a copy of photoshop cs that I don't use :p.

So if the characters are interacting with the background, would there be like, assigned sections lest two people draw theirs doing the same thing.

guyinrubbersuit Jun 30, 2006 05:48 PM

So basically the characters would be whatever is done while camping right?

Magi Jun 30, 2006 06:14 PM

Yes, you can draw something that representing you, or a character that you made up in camping gear or doing something while camping. I don't know if Greykin want to put some guideline on this, but theme base, basically, and then we put it all togather, just for the fun of it.

Meth Jul 12, 2006 06:39 PM

any update on when you want our pic done by, as mid july is quickly approaching?

Magi Jul 13, 2006 05:08 AM

Well, if you are thinking about doing the character already, just go ahead and do it, I'll change the background to accomedate them.

Greykin Jul 13, 2006 04:52 PM

Ok. I'll set the end date for the end of July. Last day, is that ok?

As for dimensions, I am REALLY not good at this stuff, so someone else would have to work that out. I guess it all depends on the background size though.

Lately I've been extremely busy with work and all these camp dates, sorry for the like, uber late reply. I'll be able to start my drawing next week :).

heh, Kazyl, quite the tricky one :P

Meth Jul 13, 2006 05:09 PM

End of July will work great for me. As far as size goes... I'd recommend that everybody do their character pretty big as they can always be scaled down in PS.

Silver Ogre Jul 14, 2006 02:54 PM

:o Soooo this project is basically having each person work on a different thing for that picture posted by Magi? Oooor are there more pictures?

Magi Jul 14, 2006 02:59 PM

Actually, each of us is just draw a character that we created or representing yourself doing something base on a theme, and then we put them togather in one big picture. I am just working on the background at the moment, but I am also drawing a character for that.

Its just so happen that the theme was suppose to be "camping".

Why don't you draw something too? :3

Silver Ogre Jul 14, 2006 03:39 PM

Is that all done in photoshop?

Magi Jul 14, 2006 03:55 PM

Are you talking about my image, or the group project in general?

Well, my image is done in OpenCanvas. Its preferable that you can get PSD file with character in one layer and transparent background, because it makes it easier to put the whole thing together. However, one of us could clean up the images and put it in the background with others if you don't have the means to generate transparent PSD yourself. :) So in that case any medium would be okay, water color, oil, acrylic, whatever. As long as you can get it on computer, we can put it in. Although we will need reasonable good quality images, as in, big enough and clear enough in terms of scanning or photographing. Although this is mainly just a conceptual exercise in my opinion.

Silver Ogre Jul 14, 2006 03:59 PM

Of course, it's always best to create images in a considerably large resolution for professional editing. I just don't know what resolution that background image has for me to determine my char's size, hun. :\

Magi Jul 14, 2006 04:04 PM

Its photoshop, does it matter? Although the image at the moment is about 3000 w X 1000 h. Its mainly because I haven't work in enough detail yet. Although I'd like to go for 7700 w X 2500 h, OpenCanvas probably wouldn't be able to handle. it. >w<

Silver Ogre Jul 14, 2006 04:10 PM

Of course it matters ;) You wouldn't wanna blow up a character that I made using 100 x 100 haha. That'd be ugly! Thanks for mentioning the size though, I appreciate it.

Magi Jul 25, 2006 11:58 AM

If it is possible, PM me with the link to your character file so I can put it togather in with the background. :3 It would be nice if your character is in one layer with tranparent background, but it isn't necessary, that is, if you trust my ablity to cut out the character. ;)

Vemp Jul 25, 2006 11:43 PM

I'm here, what do I have to do?

Magi Jul 25, 2006 11:50 PM

You have been around, why did you just read this one now?

You have to draw a character that you made up, or representing you, doing something related to camping, or just having fun, or just standing around, it would be okay. Just one character, .PSD with transparency preferred, but not required. Use the background image I posted as guid line for what type of envirement that you want to put you character in and how you want them to interact with the background. If you want special accomndation for your character (like beach ball or a boat for the character to be in or ride on) in the background please make it know in the PM. For you Vemp, I would even color your character. Just get the image in as soon as possible. :3

guyinrubbersuit Jul 26, 2006 12:24 AM

I know what I'm gonna do for the project, just need some free time to spare, however finals at my school is creeping up. :(

Vemp Jul 26, 2006 09:28 AM

Oh, ok. Is there a deadline yet? I'll work on it tomorrow then.

Magi Jul 26, 2006 10:17 AM

Well, the deadline is suppose to be the end of this month. :3

Kazyl Jul 27, 2006 01:17 AM

Um. Color is preferred I assume...?

Naturally, but you don't have to you don't have time. It is suppose to be about having fun. ;_; I don't want people to overtly stress over it (?).

Kazyl Jul 27, 2006 07:15 PM

HAH. Look at how small I am :p

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ect_bgcopy.jpg

What a loner. That Kazyl... ._.

Magi Jul 27, 2006 08:18 PM

Oh, I am not letting you off the hook this easily. :3

Meth Jul 27, 2006 10:31 PM

Hey Magi, could you post the background pic full size? Or is that the size the final will be? I'd like to just paint right on top, and then cut my guy out so you can fit him in wherever he works with everbody else.

Magi Jul 27, 2006 10:44 PM

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...oject_bg-1.jpg

Put it on a different layer please. or, how are you going to paint it? O.o

Meth Jul 27, 2006 11:28 PM

yeah my guy will be on a different layer so you can place him in the scene wherever you want. Also, is that the final background or are you planning on fleshing it out some more?

Kazyl Jul 28, 2006 12:50 AM

Haha, that's awesome Magi <3. That was definately what I had in mind. But um, he ended up just sitting there.

[edit] Oh, I pretty much finished my drawing. Hm. I drew him in the same position but it would still end up being too small. Would it be possible to put a bench somewhere? If not, I could just draw something else.

Or I could have him sit on the tent :p

Well, I was waiting to see what the character is going to be like and so I would add some stuff as to how the character interact with the background. So this is not the final version.

Well Kazyl if you already finish the drawing, just go ahead and PM me with the link, if you will.

Hey remember this? Wow I finally got it finished. I would've done it sooner but I got a pinched nerve on my funny bone, affecting my left hand and it was bothering me to draw. This is the PSD by itself, if anyone cares to look at it or whatever.

*sigh* My break is too short. :(

Greykin Aug 29, 2006 08:25 PM

LOL That's awesomely funny. I never got around to finishing mine though :(. Props to you though, your facial expression gave me a good chuckle.

Kazyl Aug 30, 2006 01:01 AM

Oh shit Guy. That's hilarious. That bear looks gangsta.

Magi Aug 30, 2006 01:19 AM

I have recived. :3 I'll stick it near the forest.
