What do you collect?

I'm sure most people here have music and/or video game collections, but what other things do you collect, if any?

Along with the two above, I have a shoe collection that I wasn't aware of until last year. I did some cleaning and realized that I owned too many shoes than necessary.

I have a small money collection growing. Old/ Foreign money that is. I have a whole bunch of old english pennies depicting Queen Victoria, and various King Georges (twice the size of the modern penny). I have a couple 1 and 2 dollar Canadian bills, and about 4 japanese coins. I have recieved most of the old english pennies from my Grandma, which used to belong to my Great Grandfather, and the 1 and 2 dollar bills were given to me from my mom who saved them from her purse when they were discontinued. The japanese coins were given to me from our japanese exchange students that came to Canada for the summer from Ikoma City. I also collect all those odd quarters made every once in awhile as they may be nice to have in later years.

No. Hard Pass. Jun 16, 2006 01:02 AM

Books. I have a nice collection of literature, and a few really decent items. I have leather bound early printings of Casanova's Diaries, Tennyson's collected works, and a lot of very early Byron. I have this thing for old books. I love the smell and the feel of them. I spend literally hours upon hours in used bookshops in every new city I go to.

Immortal Jun 16, 2006 01:03 AM

I collect Baseball cards and stuff like that mostly. Oh and there is the collection of Mugen parts for hondas...that's an expensive hobby =/

Lord Jaroh Jun 16, 2006 01:10 AM

For me its Star Wars CCG cards, Heroclix (what a great game!), and comics (but mainly for reading). I have a small library of books and such, but I'm not really a collector.

Arkhangelsk Jun 16, 2006 01:12 AM

My interest in collecting certain things comes and goes in phases. One phase was collecting business cards (it's the cheapest souvenir you could ask for -- I have 'em from different states and different countries), then playing cards (about 70 decks), and when I was in elementary school I collected bookmarks (and when selecting a bookmark for a book I'm reading, I still match the colors and/or subject matter to the book's cover). I also collected certain comics at different periods of time (Sonic the Hedgehog until around issue 104, any comics involving Venom, Dawn comics, etc).

Awesome :). I'm the same way...only one of my friends can keep up with me when I'm in a book store. My parents certainly don't like to spend hours with me in them.

Transformers figures, that's my big one. Not for the sake of completion or anything; I'm not going to buy a recolor of a figure I already have just to say I have X number of Transfigures (didn't even realize I made that word until a minute after I did it. I think I'll keep that) more than the other guy. It's more for personal enjoyment. I find it very satisfying when a robot and alt mode manage to look good without either one making the other look unnatural or clunky. Articulation too. If the robot mode doesn't have bendable arms or legs, it bothers me. Finally, I love bells and whistles on my figures. Not like lights or sounds, because those are pointless gimmicks. But more than one alternate mode, or the ability to join with other figures to form one big figure, that makes me happy. Alt modes moreso. The more alt modes, the better. I recently purchased the Devil Gigatron figure, and I am in love, proverbially. It's an improved version of the Gigatron figure, which is a six-changer, meaning it has 6 transformable modes. Devil Gigatron has 10, which is unheard of. And all the modes look rather well done, without parts from the other modes getting in the way. With the possible exception og the elephant mode. I have no idea what that's about.
In all, I have 25 figures that I actually enjoy, and 5 that are kept in boxes (they are: G1 Starscream, G1 Megatron, G1 Targetmaster Stepper, Binaltech Ravage, and Binaltech Grimlock).

If this doesn't set me as a pathetic fanboy, nothing will.

EDIT: 26 figures. I forgot about my Energon Scorponok in the livng room figure holding my roommate's Ulala figure, as if to say "You gonna get raped!"

Lost_solitude Jun 16, 2006 01:53 AM

laugh all you want but I used to collect sonic comics...Come to think of it I sould contenue.

Rockgamer Jun 16, 2006 01:57 AM

I pretty much swore off collecting after I was done with the whole Pokemon card fad, so I really don't do much of it. About the only thing I consider myself even somewhat a collector of is TV DVDs. They're on the top of my DVD shelf, I'm always getting more and more of them, and they are the only things that I actually keep a list of online. Right now I only have about 45 seasons of about 25 or so shows, but I'm always getting more shows that I love along with getting new ones I've yet to discover.

Tawnee Van Pelt Jun 16, 2006 02:03 AM

I have a small collection of The Beatles LPs that I started not too long ago.

I have a Mexican and Japanese version of Rubber Soul, an edition of The Silver Beatles when Pete Best was still around and an american compilation.

Holee-shit. The Archie ones? I have from about issues 50-100. That was about the only point where I really got into it. Before that was too cartoony for me (in comparison to the events of 47-50), and later then that it seemed they were trying too hard to blend their own story with the plot of the games and whatnot. The art was getting pretty weak too (I recall one issue where it was basically copies of the art from pervious issues), but nothing irked me as much as the dialogue.

Example from issue 96-
St John: "All right, boy...how did he get there?"
Sonic: *Drinks soda* "Uhhh...How did who get where?"
St John: "Blast."
Sonic's mom: "Way to go, son..."
St John: "Has Princess Sally contacted you lately? Guess not. Don't be late for school."
Sonic: "I sure hate that guy."

It hurts to read, really.

guyinrubbersuit Jun 16, 2006 02:21 AM

I have a small collection of comics and a small collection of McFarlane Toys. Those are pretty much the only toys I collect unless there is something out there that catches my fancy.

elwe Jun 16, 2006 02:21 AM

I collect buttons of all shapes and sizes. I'm referring to the buttons found on clothes, and not those pins. ;) When I'm bored, I love digging through the pile of buttons. It's like playing with sand, but with bigger pieces.

I also collect recipies. I always find myself taking free recipie cards from stores as well clipping recipies from newspapers and magazines. The latter is a bit difficult, as I don't get magazines anymore, with the exception of a free food magazine I get four times a year. Unfortunately, most of the recipies in said magazine aren't for making things from scratch. They mostly involve pre-packaged food items.

Wow, I'm on the same exact boat.
Roughly, after my high school days of collecting and playing card games (which was mostly Pokemon and Magi-Nation.) I just wanted to stop collecting things altogether.
Well, long story short that didn't last long. I ended up collecting DVD movies and TV DVDs of moderate proportions =).

*still waiting for season 2 of House MD*

This was apparently a phase a lot of people went through, myself included. I was really into them for about 3 years, and when they released the Knuckles solo book I actually liked that better than Sonic by that point. I was such a StH nerd for the better part of my elementary/middle school years. Then the comics went to shit, and I had to force myself to buy until around 100. But by that point, I figured I was just getting a little old to appreciate the comics, and perhaps the deterioration in the writing was my imagination o_O.

I hated when they changed Robotnik/Eggman's appearance to match that of the games -- even though the games' design came first. I liked the Archie version of Ivo Robotnik :(.

CactusWater Jun 16, 2006 03:02 AM

I collect pictures and books.
I love to save almost every picture I find online that I even think for a second "thats cool" I have them organized into catergory folders in my "my pictures folder"
It may sound corny but it's really cool to look back at them after a long time when you've forgotten about them and you're really glad you've saved them after all.
Also, it's a good idea if you're like me and like to photoshop things. You can never have enough stock images for photo manipulation.

Amen. And it wasn't your imagination. The writing was deteriorating, it pretty much started doing so at the point when they decided to do the whole Sonic Adventure plug-in story. Hell, I felt it was going a little when they did that pointless episode that was a blatant rip-off of Indiana Jones. Then again, issue 48's ending was kind of a rip off of The Fugitive, so I figured maybe they just liked Harrison Ford.
Robotnik's appearance was awesome, in a grotesque, overweight sort of way. He was anatomically correct for the most part, and that made me happy. It made him seem more believable as a character, and more sinister in a way.
And finally, yes, the Knuckles series rocked. Had a ton more original characters, all of whom were more interesting than the Sonic characters, and some deeper issues. Racial tensions between the dingoes and echidnas for example. I would have loved to have seen more development in that, except Archie is retarded...

That reminds me of this idea I had for a fan-comic once. Maybe I should dust that chestnut off...

Peter Jun 16, 2006 03:54 AM

Books! This is really something that runs in the family, since we have book racks in almost every room (even the kitchen of all places). I usually set my eye on a specific rather rare book, and a specific print, and I enjoy myself searching for it iin shady book shops. Most of the time it are books that I've already read, but still, it's nice to have them. I really have a thing for really old rare works (I would kill for 19th century first prints), but most of the time they are too bloody expensive =/.

eriol33 Jun 16, 2006 04:56 AM

I collect any books related to israel-palestine conflict and japanese-related subject.

Years ago I collected sailor moon and dragon ball cards. I feel like idiot now. they sure wasted money! ><

Oric Jun 16, 2006 05:20 AM

Books
Shot glasses (I buy one at every place I go to, and my family knows to get one for me from their vacations)
Musical instruments (this one's a bit expensive, but I don't normally look for super top quality instruments, just playable and sounds OK and can stay in tune: I have: A trumpet, two trombones, a tuba, a ukulele, a mandolin, a guitar, two basses, an ocarina, a wooden flute, several wooden recorders, panflutes, a steel drum, a cheap electronic keyboard, and a Hammond organ. I'm looking to acquire a tenor sax or a banjo, if you can offer me one cheap- $50-$100, PM me)
I collect music, of course. I prefer CDs, mp3 quality just isn't as good, but I've got plenty of mp3s, with the idea that I will someday have the album.
And then language books. I'm a language nerd...

Me too... I love to go to used book fairs/stores/etc. and buy big dictionaries and guides to learning languages, even though some of them I doubt I'll seriously learn. So far I have stuff on/in Spanish, Latin, German, Norwegian, Japanese, Russian, Italian, ancient Egyptian, Nahuatl, French and Dutch. I already (sortof) speak Spanish, want to learn Norwegian and Japanese, keep the German around for musical references, and the rest are passing fancies :).

I forgot to mention the things I collect *now*: Liquor bottles, preferably hard liquor (ie: liqueurs, vodka, tequila, etc.) with unique or interesting bottles. And they have to be kept sealed, so all the liquor is intact with no taste testing. Of course, I don't like to drink, so this is easy for me -- maybe not for other people. I think it's hereditary as well, because my dad and two of his siblings also collect alcohol and work or have worked in bars.

I also collect classical LPs. They usually feature the best performers, stellar recordings (unless really scratched), and I can get things that have been out of print for decades for very little money. And usually classical records are in good shape, because nobody listens to them that often. Except for me :p.

Spatula Jun 16, 2006 08:32 AM

I like to collect post cards, and I have about 70-100 of them. Not that much, but whereever I go, even the stop overs at airports, I still buy a few of them as mementos.

I also do collect toys (see current sig LOL), but I try to go for more the collectability side in terms of quality than cheap mass produce toys. Most of them are Japanese based products which are generally made in China, except for plastic model kits - The Japanese are masters at producing those. Sup Hasegawa/Tamiya.

Same here. Besides going to /b/ and /othercartoonthreadslol/, I find myself in the Mecha thread quite a bit and picking up on all the cool pictures of various mecha animes, I'm constantly on the look out for more Macross and Patlabor (rare) related material.

PiccoloNamek Jun 16, 2006 09:13 AM

Headphones. I already have a pair of Shure E4Gs and a pair of Grado SR-60s, and I just ordered a pair of Etymotic ER4Ss. I want to get a pair or AKG K701s and an Aria amplifier.

Gechmir Jun 16, 2006 09:27 AM

Gemstones! =O Some Opaques (Cabs) and some Transparent (Facetable) ones. I shouldn't say "some". I've got quite a crapload to be honest.

I have about 300 different gems that are, on average, about the size of a marble (including a diamond and a fist-sized lump of gold. But that's a precious metal >_> I found it!).

Quite proud of me collection, I am~

Dekoa Jun 16, 2006 09:39 AM

I collect a few things.

The first on my list, is that I collect Coins and the more popular State Quarters. In Fact, I have every quarter up to date except for this year. I also get the Proof Sets to each quarter year. A proof set is where they Double stamp the quarter to produce an extra vivid Image and then they seal it in an airtight container. They only com from San Fransisco anyways. I also collect some pennys. I have a 1914 Penny in my drawer right now that is worth around $100 and I only found it in my Grandma's Change can.

I also collect some collectable items as well. A poster and a Wheaties box of Mark McGwire (The Wheaties box is still unopened). Some hot wheels collectables. All that stuff.

I also collect Manga and Anime. The normal stuff.

Arainach Jun 16, 2006 10:40 AM

Coins. I'm particularly fond of Morgan Dollars and Liberty Halves, but I maintain a general collection of Pre-1965 U.S. Coins and various coins from around the world.

I have an incredibly vast library, but I don't consider myself a "collector" of books - I just read them. The only true collectibles would be a signed first edition of Terry Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule and a 1865 book of Poetry, but that's not enough for me to call it a collection.

Headphones, to an extent. I don't collect them so much as use them, but I do have three high-end pairs at the moment, so it's kind of a collection.

Sarmoti Jun 16, 2006 10:59 AM

Anything related to giant monsters(such as Godzilla or Gamera). I have a semi-large collection of Godzilla figures, big and small.

I also have small collections of Mega Man,Sonic and DragonBall stuff.

Celisasu Jun 16, 2006 03:01 PM

Videogames, anime, assorted collectible card games, wargames(tabletop, board, it's all good), RPGs, science fiction stuff, fantasy stuff.

Wesker Jun 16, 2006 03:23 PM

Police patches. I have about 200 from the U.S. and a few international ones. I post the patch in a photo album, usually with the letter from the department, or a patrol car photo, or some type of info about the city where the patch is from.

RadioDaze Jun 16, 2006 03:23 PM

I gave up collecting after I realized how much bloody space it takes up. I tend to move often, and have subsiquently given up such collections as my transformers, die cast cars, models, enough lego to build a civilization, etc. I did keep a few things, GI Joe figures, GI Joe comic collection, and my star wars figures. Now I just collect MP3's and *ahm* digital media ;)

Azi Jun 16, 2006 03:27 PM

I love to collect purses! I have tons of them in my wardrobe. When I go out, the purse I use always has to fit my clothes. I regularly buy new handbags even if I don't need to :p

I have many fragrance bottles of various sizes, such as Givenchy, Lacoste, Baby Phat, Calvin Klein, etc.

I also collect tiny bottles of alcohol. I buy new ones every time I go to the airport because I can't find them in regular stores.

Max POWER Jun 18, 2006 01:29 AM

When I was in elementary school, I used to collect the Mighty Max toy sets. The large sets like Doom Mountain and the Magnus, the medium and smaller sized heads with the dungeons inside, and even the itty bitty ones where Max barely fit in the head standing up. Those things were really cool. I think I just might have every one ever....but they're out of reach in an obscure box in my basement. They're as good as gone.

Krelian Jun 18, 2006 05:02 AM

Pez dispensers. You know, those sweets you load into the little spring-loaded column with the head on top. They look like drug paraphernalia. I've got well over 800; I've been collecting the damn things since I was three. Now I've got two of the original "block head" ones, and one of the soft-head ultra-rare Mickey Mouse ones. Not sure where they all are today (I haven't picked up any new ones for about a year), but eh.

I'm thinking of starting a vinyl collection soon.

edit: Oh, and scifi novels. I have several thousand - Mainly hand-downs from my brother and godfather. I've only read maybe 400 of them though; mainly the Asimov and PKD stuff.

Angel of Light Jun 18, 2006 10:45 AM

I'm a big collector of cartoons from the 80's and the early 90's. Anytime that a licensed boxed set comes out of any cartoons from that time line, I try my best to pick them up as soon as they come out.

I'm also a yu-gi-oh card collector. I use to play the game a while back, but I gave up playing the game but I still like to collect the cards nonetheless.

lol_nl Jun 19, 2006 08:17 AM

I used to collect stamps when I was young (boring, eh?).
Then I gave up.

Now I collect nothing in particular, well.. maybe CDs then.

Lady Miyomi Jun 19, 2006 01:20 PM

I have a big collection of AOL discs. I have no idea why I collect them because I don't use them. Before I got DSL, I was forced to open one and I got quite upset. I still grab them wherever I see them.

I also have my comic collection, which consists of Star Trek~TNG mainly and trading cards from the entire series minus Voyager and Enterprise. I also collect Sanrio stuff, which I haven't recently.

ROBOTRON Jun 19, 2006 01:27 PM

I collect action figures as well as old/new videogames and systems.

My action figure collection has grown to over 300 dating back as far as 1990. I have several figures that have increased in value and worth over $100. I collect mostly super hero/villians and videogame chars as well as some anime figures. Most of my collection, I'd say 90% are still carded...meaning they are still in blister packs. I display them pegged just like they were on display at the store. This is not a hinderence because I do not play with or pose my figures...they are just for display. Here is a sample pic of my collection:

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/684...hnology5pl.jpg

I am currently running out of room, so my collecting has slowed down considerably.

________________________

EDIT: I forgot to mention I collect Wacky Packages.

Kilroy Jun 19, 2006 01:46 PM

I'm, very slowly, collecting consoles. So far I've gathered a N64, a SNES, a NES and a Dreamcast. Not very impressive, but as time goes by I hope I get my hands on at least most of the consoles released in Europe. (Though I might consider getting a Virtual Boy if I get the chance...)

Arkhangelsk Jun 19, 2006 03:19 PM

I would like to collect Sega consoles. So far I have a Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Nomad :p. I have a controller and game for the Saturn, but what I really want is a 32X so I can play Kolbri and Knuckles Chaotix.

And yes, I know ROMS exist. But I like to have the actual system.

Krelian Jun 19, 2006 03:25 PM

Oh, and to state the obvious I have a music collection, too. I started in September 2004; now I have a 70-album-strong stock of metal, industrial and rock stuff.

Summonmaster Jun 19, 2006 05:07 PM

I collect piano books, but not individual sheet music. I prefer the Urtext editions over all else, since they stay true to the original markings. So I mostly have sonata books from various composers lying around unplayed.

In terms of manga, I'm currently planning to collect all of Nodame Cantabile, and have Vols. 5-10 of Petshop of Horrors.

I collect FF X-2 room decorations and memorabila such as posters, card sets, and wall scrolls, despite no longer having the game, and not having finished it.

I'm collecting funny Sunday comics to put on my dresser to replace some pictures that are folding over with the weight of years.

As well, I'm starting to collect videogame plushies when possible.

WolfDemon Jun 19, 2006 05:39 PM

I have small, but growing collections of swords, anime/video game peraphernalia (sp?) anime and manga. With manga, mainly Bleach and Trigun. I've been trying to get around to updating my Bleach collection, since there's two more volumes out now, I believe, but I've watched the anime past what's out in the manga now, so I'm not as motivated about it anymore.

Acro-nym Jun 19, 2006 05:47 PM

At various times, I've collected football cards, baseball cards, Heroclix, and even Tracy Lawrence tapes. However, these days I really only focus on collecting Pokémon cards. I guess you could say I collect comic books, but that's not really true. As Lord Jaroh put it, they're mainly for reading. Though, I'll probably be putting a stop to that collection shortly...

Domino Jun 19, 2006 06:48 PM

I have a nice collection of swords & knifes (display puposes only) I've got 9 swords and 2 knifes, i would have more if it weren't for lack of space for them in my room. I also collect Burago model cars, mainly the Disney ones.

When i was younger i used to collect postcards. yes, postcards.

Snowknight Jun 19, 2006 07:35 PM

At one time, when I was younger, I collected keys "seriously." I used them to pretend, with my bike, that I was driving a car.
Lots of people seemed to have old keys that they didn't need...

Now I don't really collect anything in particular, unless random crap is an option.

ziggythecat Jun 19, 2006 08:31 PM

Star Wars action figures and Superman comics. as it seems right now, I'm beginning a cat collection also. I have 4. Hope the wife doesn't try to bring anymore home.

acc011 Jun 20, 2006 03:20 AM

Ten years ago, I collected Postage stamps

DarkLink2135 Jun 20, 2006 10:50 AM

I collect DVDs and books as more passive hobby, if you know what I mean. I have a lot of them but they aren't something I build up just for the sake of collection.

Things I deliberately collect for the sake of collecting? Pretty much just coins. I used to collect shells, rocks, bugs, and countless other worthless things I thought were cool, lol.

Mostly it's foreign coins, but I do collect US Mint proof sets for every year of my birth. I also have several old American coins, as well as some old paper money from around the world. Most of my money gets poured into my comptuer now, lol, so other than proof sets, it isn't really a very active hobby anymore.

Double Post:
I've halfway started a Queen collection. I've got the Crown Jewels collection, Greatest Hits I & II gold package, Greatest Hits I We Will Rock You Edition, and a couple posters. I want to get some records, but that's kind of pointless to get a record player, and I'm having trouble finding something within my budget :). Like I said, a lot of my money gets poured (If I'm honest, quite needlessly) into my computer :p.

So basically there isn't much there, but there's an active interest in expanding it.

Scumbag Harry Jun 20, 2006 12:28 PM

Reggae CDs: Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, Augustus Pablo and the likes. Also, I'm nearly done finding every tome of the magnificent manga series Heomokadji-Takaeme NoikaaarutsuUUUuuKI-KuJAAAAAAAlitooooOOO!!!!!11111 ^_^

RattyHair Jun 20, 2006 12:41 PM

i collect via torrents different kinds of music production programs. almost all of them i have not used for more than 1 hour at a time. my collection ranges from various synthesizer and instrument emulators(native instruments b4, sequential circuits emulators) to larger scale production programs like cakewalk dimension pro, east-west quantum leap, finale, and others.

i collect a lot of sheet music as well, both through gff's sheet music thread and real life purchases. i try hard to get complete collections for each composer which can be a tedious affair for the major composers or those who did not number their scores consistently.

i think some day i might share my complete collection with the net as soon as i finish sorting, which might be never.

Shinimegami Jun 20, 2006 01:02 PM

I collect: Starburst Wrappers
Pins <--- the obsession of every air cadet (we wear it inside our wedges and show them off every opportunity we get..... lol)

kapsi Jun 20, 2006 05:18 PM

Cinema tickets...

acid Jun 21, 2006 12:19 AM

Comics. Lots and lots of comics. Mostly newer stuff, but I am thinking about branching out into older stuff (specifically Dr.Doom appearances). Old NES/SNES games too, but that's really only a semi-hobby. Pick some up when I see them, but that's about it.

splur Jun 21, 2006 07:45 AM

Okay, other than collecting games and anime. Which neither really count unless you go out and by all the boxsets and limited edition game boxes, something I don't do.

I collect shoes. I don't have the amount actual sneaker freaks do, but I've currently got 9 pairs of sneakers and a bunch of dress shoes.

Well, its nice to know we have such esteemed guests here at GFF. Now, if you could politely put away that missle......

Fleshy Fun-Bridge Jun 25, 2006 07:30 PM

I'm not too enthusiastic about collecting anything, really. I used to have the cliche rock collection, and tried collecting comic books for a while. Never stuck.

These days, if I collect anything it silver coins (or old coins in general), and old paper notes. I get to handle quite a bit of money at work, and I come across three or four silver pieces each day.

tsuchiiru Jun 25, 2006 07:46 PM

i collect button pins.. and everything that's related to Doraemon that i see being sold. XD;;

BlueMikey Jun 25, 2006 10:46 PM

I wouldn't say I collect things, per say. I don't go out of my way to add things to the things I already own for the purpose of having more of the same thing. I just don't like getting rid of what I own...more of a pack rat than a collector. So I have quite a few DVDs, video games, books and the like, but it's more that they are just things I own rather than things I collect.

From when I was younger, I have a fairly sizable collection of basketball cards which will probably sit in a box for another decade or two until they are valuable enough to unload them. All the other things I collected when I was a kid were either sold or donated.

kat Jun 25, 2006 11:01 PM

You know, when I was younger I looked for something to collect. My mom collected coins and stamps and my brother collected pogs (it was the 90s) so I decided to collect my finger nail clippings. I was just fresh off watching The Guinness Book of World Records on TV where they featured the guy with the world's longest fingernails. Well, I deduced that I wouldn't be able to ever surpass him in all my life without being a total freak of nature, so I decided on the next best thing and collect my fingernail clippings. I even had a little fantasy, being featured on the World Records show and showing off jars and jars and bags full of my fingernail clippings. Enough to fill an olympic sized swimming pool! 7 times over! FAME.

Then 4 months into my little feat, I realized how fucking creepy that actually was and dumped my short lived collection into the toilet.

I don't collect anything now. I think I'm too unoriginal for that, and OCD enough in my life. Perhaps expensive material goods that will be replaced in a matter of months with something newer and shinier? Maybe.

Infernal Monkey Jun 25, 2006 11:10 PM

I don't really collect anything now, but a zillion yeeeeaaaaars ago I thought it'd be brilliant to collect the movie ticket stub things. I'd be able to proudly show people what rubbish I've seen! Everyone would be thrilled! I built up a nice stupid collection in my wallet over the space of a year and a bit. Then one day I went to look at them and all the ink had vanished. VANISHED. I was left with a pile of paper with the cinema logo on the back and little else.

I was shattered. Forever.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Jun 25, 2006 11:13 PM

I have a few thousand odd baseball cards left over from my younger days. It's worth a bunch of money, at least according to Beckett. I guess I'll sell it someday, but, for now, I like holding on to it and looking through all of the cards from time to time.

Jiraiya Jun 26, 2006 12:34 AM

I collect different materials with which to tie flies for fly fishing. Im working on getting some Polar Bear hair as of now. I also collect key chains, even though I dont drive really...oh well.

electric_eye Jun 26, 2006 04:10 AM

In some aspects I am collecting videogames. Any game that I love I will keep. I remember I used to collect stamps, through some company in the Beano comic. I wasn't a dedicated collector, I just remember having a stamp album, a collector set from that company and I usually bought stamps that had something that I thought looked cool. I did used to collect a lot of cards and comics, but I think amassed would be the word.

Glimsand Jun 28, 2006 06:17 AM

I collect books (video game related ones), manga and that standard stuff. But my biggest collection is though my DVD-collection. All kinds of genre, and at the moment I have somwhere between 150-200.

The Burniator Jun 28, 2006 06:35 AM

I don't collect them anymore but I used to collect Yu-Gi-Oh cards but I sold them to some kid for around a hundred dollars.

Freelance Jun 28, 2006 06:54 AM

Stuff I used to collect, but not anymore for various reasons, are stamps, pins, original Sandy Lion stickers, and Pokémon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. I'm only collecting foreign coins right now, but even that has slowed down.

I guess DVDs would count. I want to get all the Godzilla movies at any rate, but the fact not every movie has come out to NA has hindered my progress.

I have a fair amount of figures too, but I don't consider it a 'collection.'

Red_21 Jun 28, 2006 08:05 AM

I used to collect pokemon cards back when I was in elementary school but now I dont really collect anything

JumboMaverick Jun 28, 2006 08:36 AM

I used to collect most anything... baseball/hockey cards, die cast cars, star wars POTF2 action figures, stamps, old coins... but not anymore. Nowadays I just stick to video games, mainly PS2.

orborborb Jul 2, 2006 04:05 PM

I used to collect After Dark screensavers, anyone remember those? Screensavers suck these days. I also collect epic fantasy and continental philosophy.

Bernard Black Jul 2, 2006 04:09 PM

I've recently started collecting feathers for no reason. I used to collect dragon related items, such as statues, glass models, wall charms ect. I also have a collection of gemstones somewhere in my room, and I'm sure I have a photo album full of postcards from some rather uninteresting locations.

cubed Jul 2, 2006 04:26 PM

I used to collect keychains. I have many boxes full of different kind of keychains. On every trip I've made so far, I came back home with at least 10 new keychains. I'm still looking for the weirdest keychain I could find, but now my interests are elsewhere.

Darsh Jul 2, 2006 04:41 PM

when I was younger, I used to collect pogs, then ditched them as times changed. I have a few left. I also had an extensive collection of yo-yos.
Nowadays its just normal stuff like videogames and extreme metal CDs. Theres also spawn stuff, random toys, and close ranged weapons (stunguns, knives, swords, daggers, etc, nothing too extreme like guns, but nothing to brag about either since the collection is relatively small). Every now and then Ill buy some legos, mainly space themed. I still have a large collection from when I was younger.
Theres more, but in small amounts since I really dont devote too much time, effort and money to any hobby.

Single Elbow Jul 2, 2006 04:45 PM

Except for that one time I collected used bus passes and held them tight with a rubber band, nothing recently comes to mind.

Chibi Neko Jul 10, 2006 04:07 PM

I collect video games... the good ones anyway, but my main collection is coins. I have been collectinh coins since I was 10.

agreatguy6 Jul 10, 2006 04:35 PM

I collecet sheet music that I will likely never play in concert.

hardhouse Jul 16, 2006 09:48 PM

I collect paying cards game and dvds movie :)

Trench Jul 16, 2006 09:58 PM

I could say I collect cross necklaces, or video games, or music, but in reality I'm not much of a collector because they all have to be good in order for me to add them to my collection. I always sort of felt like a real collector collects everything from his / her chosen category, "good" or "bad".

Luckee Cookie Jul 16, 2006 10:08 PM

When I was a child I used to collect new, unsharpened pencils. I have a tissue box full of them sitting on a shelf in bedroom.

Now I collect classical music.

gidget Jul 17, 2006 01:22 AM

I got into the beanie baby fad in elementary school. I have around 175, I think. They're all up in boxes, now. I guess you could say I collect movies. I have about 50 DVDs, or so. Nothing insane, but if I see a movie and like it, I'll add it to my list of movies to buy.

Sequel_Boy Jul 20, 2006 08:10 AM

I collect anything that's related to Iron Maiden. It's almost an obsession heh. Posters, cd's, vinyls, figurines, flags, cigarette holders, everything.

I used to collect old and foil Magic The Gathering cards but I can't keep up with the new series now

Outlaw Jul 23, 2006 08:47 PM

I collect Wades....Yeah...those little one (sometimes multi) colored glased minitures from England that you see every now and then at flea markets and antique stores. Besides those, collect other little nick-knaks from the 40s....

I also collect Otter everything (Stuffed animals mostly). What? I like otters. I used to collect beanie babies when I was younger. I built up a big collection of those....

And of corse...let us not forget, the collection that has been taking up my parents money since 1999...pokemon/anime/manga stuff! Yeah...this is the bigest collection I have.

KazeJiyuu Jul 23, 2006 10:13 PM

Right now I'm just collecting Mangas, even if I'm running out of space in my room right now.

And I wanna start a Figures (Anime/Game) collection sometime soon so I can be poor forever no matter what kind of job I've.

blue Jul 23, 2006 10:31 PM

THE SOULS OF MEN.

CLOudkiller Jul 23, 2006 11:05 PM

Well, I collect anime figurines, some rare, some made from scratch(pain in the ass to make), some mass produced. I apparently collect books(wether I know it or not), most of them are out of print or antiques, I still read them from time to time. I also collect the state quarters, I have most of them, think i'm missing the Louisana coin...

nazpyro Jul 24, 2006 01:14 AM

Last month I realized I have a collection of Vans shoes. And now, coming back from Australia, I have a large collection of tongs (aka flip-flops/tsinelas) :p. My mom got mad at me for that since I had brought too many shoes in the first place. Ended up being a pain to pack...

What else... I have a collection of anime and video game action figures that's slowly getting larger. I also have tons of basketball and comic cards. I have some really old comics somewhere but I stopped collecting those long ago.

Oh! I guess a weird one is that have tons of chopsticks from all the restaurants that had them that I've been to in the past few years.

Edit: I forgot to mention casino used casino playing cards. I started getting them when I went to Las Vegas last summer. I got them from every major casino there except the Wynn and the Venetian.

shadowlink56 Jul 24, 2006 01:31 PM

Aside from my main collection, I also collect:
Futurama figures at one point, but I sold those off for insane profit.
I also have a number of South Park plushes.
Nightmare Before Christmas Merchandise - figures and such.
Madballs (80's foam ugly balls - weird. I ended up finally completing the set when Ebay started up)
The Tick figures - have all the rarities
Hot Wheels/Matchbox
Stamps
Bottlecaps (another weird one)
Keys (Yup, weird. My dad sometimes brought hom old keys from houses. Some were VERY old and cool)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Still wondering how to sell these)
LEGOS (I'm betting these will never fall out of fashion and I'll give 'em to my kid)
Junk (Don't laugh. I collect junk to make figures out of. My distinct and unique art of assemblage sculpture.)
Movies (have another bookcase full)
80's movie merchandise (Back to the Future & Ghostbusters mainly)
Dice (I actually have a retired Las Vegas dice holder to store most of them)

So, yeah . . . I'm an obsessive collector!

galador Jul 24, 2006 03:19 PM

Besides the obligatory Music and VG collections, I really don't have anything I collect (unless you count the massive amounts of burned CD I've gotten over the years :P ).

daguuy Jul 24, 2006 07:54 PM

i collect broken videogame consoles. my collection isn't very big though because i keep fixing them

goldeneye2131 Jul 24, 2006 08:34 PM

I collect.....baseball cards!! This has been going on for years and years, and I still haven't stopped. I've also just recently started collecting autographs through the mail, and that is beginning to build as I get enough money to buy stamps and envelopes....

I forgot this...I collect pennies, I've got quite the collection...

rahvii Jul 29, 2006 02:23 PM

I dont think i have serius collection of anything. I have some personal collections of Videogames, Magic Cards, some Anime Anime Figures. But i dont have any very rare stuff really.

DragoonKain Jul 29, 2006 03:15 PM

I collect absolutely nothing, besides games, and I don't even really collect those. I just don't sell my games. I don't necessary call that collecting as a habit.

I used to collect basketball cards hardcore, but not anymore. It grew boring, and pointless to me, since I wasn't making money from it. But that was when I was like 10, so it wasn't a big deal then anyway. I still have some really good cards though.

Dyesan Jul 29, 2006 10:12 PM

Could've sworn I posted here...

Anyways, I collect airsoft. And airsoft gear. Play airsoft too, rarely though. Here's the stockpile:

Fire On Ice Jul 29, 2006 10:16 PM

Callenders. I honestly have no idea why, exactly, it started but I have loads of them on my shelves. It's been several years since I haven't had at least three at any given time. The thing is, I don't go out and buy copius amounts of callenders, I just kinda end up with them, some of them are gifts, others come from charities that my parents donate to some of them just kinda...show up

Kotone Jul 31, 2006 01:16 PM

Mostly, I collect anime/game key chains and pins, but as of a few weeks ago, I started collecting figures too. It's quite an addiction of mine really. :ashamed:

xman25 Jul 31, 2006 05:23 PM

I like to collect non-sports cards. Mainly costume and autograph cards. I have six costume cards from the 'Catwoman' movie. 1)Leather pants worn by Halle Berry as Catwoman, 2)Jeans worn by Halle Berry as Patience Philips, 3)Jog suit top worn by Halle Berry as Patience Philips, 4)Jog suit bottom worn by Halle Berry as Patience Philips, 5)Blue top worn by Halle Berry as Patience Philips, and 6)Brown pants worn by Halle Berry as Patience Philips. I also have three autograph cards from the 'Catwoman' set: 1)Alex Borstein and 2)Kim Smith (two copies). I have Halle Berry's Storm costume card from the first 'X-MEN' movie. I also have a costume card from the second 'Tomb Raider' movie that has a piece of the wetsuit worn by Angelina Jolie. I have an autographed card from the 'X-FILES Connections' set that came out last year. The card is signed my Tom Braidwood. He played Melvin Frohike, one of The Lone Gunman. I have two autographs from the 'James Bond Dangerous Liaisons' set that came out earlier this year. One is signed by Lana Wood (red background, limited), and the other one is signed by Ursula Andress (very limited). Lana Wood signed between 300 and 500. Ursula Andress signed between 200 and 300. The Lana Wood card is worth $90 and the Ursula Andress card is worth $200. I'm thinking about buying a Kim Raver autograph card from one of the '24' sets for $20. I also like to get statues. I have a Halle Berry/Catwoman statue from the movie, a Halle Berry/Storm statue from X-MEN 3, a Terminatrix/Kristanna Loken statue from Terminator 3,and a Jim Lee designed Catwoman statue from the comics.

Most of my collections are digital: Piano Videos, Artistic Nudes (I'm an art student, I swear I actually draw them :D), piano recordings, etc...

Yes!!! I can add another non-sports card to my collection. I just won a Kristanna Loken Terminator 3 autograph card on ebay for $46.55. The Terminator 3 cards came out at about the same time as the movie back in 2003. Only 300 were signed. It's valued at $171 in 'Non-Sports Update' magazine.

I've started collecting movie film cells just because they look good and may bring me money in the future lol. I've also got a collection of lingerie because i always think a woman should have lots for those different occassions :D or it could just be me lol

Mercury Blue Aug 15, 2006 08:32 PM

Well I suppose to some I collect some really odd stuff. Clothing from the late 18th century to the 19th century. My collection is small right now because it's a really expensive to collect and some of it is really hard to find. I display them sometimes at living history conferences and I've drafted a pattern out one of my dresses so I can make one like the original. =D
I also collect old books, different subjects and such. Early photographs like daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes, I have tons of those. And music boxes, something I've been collecting since I was little, the only somewhat "normal" stuff I collect. haha

Echo Aug 15, 2006 08:51 PM

I like to collect pens, markers and pencils. I'm a real ink snob. I refuse to write with anything that writes like shit, and I'll import pens for other countries if I think they're nice enough. I also have a sick fasination with those black and magenta colored flaire markers. I've spent a few hundred dollars over the years on pens, markers and pencils.

*drools*

MTGNecro Aug 15, 2006 10:49 PM

Books! Lots and lots of books! In my room I have something like 7 or 8 full bookshelves packed with em. I counted all the books I have bought and I own, and it came out to be something like 800...although it is kinda sad that I read them all...Nice little used book store down the road. You can get most books for 25 cents. They sell rare stuff too, but nothing I am interested in.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Aug 15, 2006 11:12 PM

I collect NES cartridges. I've got a pretty sizeable collection too. Thing is, I only collect the games that I'd consider playing at some point. That means you'll never find crap like Sesame Street 1-2-3 or Bible Adventures in my collection. Right now, I believe I'm at approximately 215 titles in my possession. I scour E-bay and second-hand shops periodically for anything that might interest me, but those titles are becoming fewer and fewer.

Here's all my games, conveniently stacked together:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-8/40379/NESWall.jpg

Some of my high-end games. These ones tend to be quite rare.

I've got a lot of complete sets too, like Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Dragon Warrior, Lolo, Adventure Island, T.M.N.T. and so on. I've only been collecting for four years, so my collection's pretty impressive for such a short span.

PiccoloNamek Aug 15, 2006 11:22 PM

Do you have Whomp-Em? That game is a classic, awesomely fun and with really great music. Damn, I need to go play it now.

Rakka Aug 15, 2006 11:31 PM

I don't really collect anything in the traditional sense of the word, but I've recently set a goal of sorts to buy some nice photographic equipment...specifically, I've been trying to hunt down Pentax prime lenses and one of their better manual film bodies, like an MX or K1000. At the same time, I'm trying to save up for one of their nice new digital SLR bodes, though that's been slow going, because digital SLRs are really expensive.

Unfortunately, the camera market in my hometown is monopolized by one vaguely sleazy store, and they only seem to have new Nikon stuff and old Minolta lenses, so it's been slow going so far. I did manage to get my hands on a nice 50mm/1.8 for almost nothing, so at least I've had some success.
