What's your guilty pleasure?
 

What's that little something you love to indulge in that others find slightly (or more than slightly) odd?

I have a few, personally.

1) Cartoons from the '90s. Original TMNT, Transformers G1, Swat Cats, and many of the series' that Disney shot out (Talespin, Duck Tales, Gargoyles, etc). Animation was great back then, so much better than half the crap you see nowadays. Seriously, compare Rescue Rangers to Kim Possible in terms of animation. Ahh, those were the glory days.

2) Transformers in general. From the (original) cartoon to the comics to the figures. Especially the figures.

3) Hentai-doujins. (From one extreme to the other, eh?) Mind you, not for fap value (not completely anyway), but more for comedic value. Most of the situations depicted in these books are so far-fetched (moreso that the item it's based upon), one can't help but find it funny.

Hm. I guess anything depressing (music, movies, books). They make me feel sad of course but concurrently happy.

Back in high school I used to drive one of my friends home. He stopped asking for rides cause he said that my music was too depressing. To quote him, "I felt like I just killed someone."

5. Opening the bedroom window on cold nights and burying myself in a stack of blankets (This only happens when my energy-conscious husband isn't home.)

I've been a fan since the day their first album came out. Sure everyone hates on them now for being emo or a trend band, but fuck you, I like them. Simple as that.

How is talking in your sleep a guilty pleasure? Do you some how know you are doing it and trick people with it or what? If not isn't that just something weird you do?

Totally Radd! I'm a big fan of the band (not the game, in fact never played it). I love the 80s rock/Nintendo inspired sound they go for. Plus some of the songs are brilliant like Dressed Up and Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

I also dig Stan Bush - The Touch. Absolutely one of the cheesiest songs you could like and it was one of the main themes for the Transformers movie. Conversely, I also enjoy Lion's rendition of the Transformers theme. You can't go wrong with heavy metal.

My guilty pleasure movie is Action Jackson staring Carl Weathers of Predator and Arrested Development fame. Just watch it for its shear ridiculousness and crazy action sequences.

My guilty pleasures are pretty strange and specific:

1) taking my friends out to eat one on one, and then paying for the bill before they can protest
2) Go! Go! 7188
3) spending at least 30 minutes in the shower each time
4) picking a random sonata out of all my piano books and sight reading it

I listen to Katrina and the Waves. (You know that band that did "Walkin' on Sunshine"? Yeah, them.)

That's about it I think, I don't feel guilty about anything else that I enjoy doing.

1) Listening to music that I liked when I was younger, like stuff by the Spice Girls. Yes, they suck, but their music brings back some good memories, damn it.
2) Watching old cartoons, like Spiderman and X-Men.
3) Playing old video games, especially Sonic, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong Country.
4) Watching those shows where significant others get caught cheating by hidden camera. In Spanish.
5) Watching old kids movies when no one's home, like Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, and Disney movies.
6) Singing along with my music very loudly when no one is home.

I like to login as my sister on her myspace and deface her page every so often. A VERY guilty pleasure indeed.

I also like to fire up old Sega Genesis games (emulated on my PSP) like Dune, Aladdin, Cool Spot and Shadowrun to play them through again and again (when I should be trying to finish up Half-Life 2).

Other than that, I just flow with the rest of the day.

Edit: Oh and of course the biggest one would be reading through Project Serpo: http://serpo.org -- I can't help but be fascinated by the content.

<3 Love the whole soundtrack from that movie. Seriously, Instruments of Destruction and Hunger are two of my favorite songs of all time. And Unicron's theme (the one you hear at the beginning of the movie) nearly brings a tear to my eye, it's so perfect. Oh, and funny thing about Lion's rendition of the Transformers theme, is it just me, but do they say "caught within the grip, of the evil Unicorn", rather than "Unicron"?

I fucking love Disney much more than any straight twenty year old man should. The movies, the music from the movies (hell, I'm listening to Under the Sea right now), the characters, and the place. Walt Disney World is simply the absolute greatest place on earth. I would spend every waking moment in the Magic Kingdom if they'd let me, chasing anthropomorphic mice around forcing them to work with sentient brooms.

I sometimes enjoy listening to oldies music whenever I have some time and I happen to find my current music collection dull. Although not as uncommon now, I consider reading and collecting manga guilty obsessions as well.

-I love singing my heart out when nobody's home and the windows in the house are shut. I should probably mention twirling and "floor skating" along with the singing.

-Anime splurges. Anime splurges. :(

-I love running out in the rain and spinning with my arms out wide. I once did that during a near-torrential downpour that lasted for a minute or two. Jogging in the rain is also fun, but I don't do that very often.

-I listen to and love Evanescence and Avril Lavigne. And? :p

-Random songs are also fun. I'm particularly fond of listening to Jacky Cheung, Simon and Garfunkel, Enya, and Jewel songs, although I don't even know too much about them. The library is a good place to get random CDs.

I watch Desperate Housewives. Yes, I know that it's a show aimed at older women, that you could easily strangle some of the characters, but I love it. I really don't have any idea why though, maybe it's just my female side having a dominating moment.

I don't know, it almost sounds like both as if the singer forgot what the name is supposed to be. Either way, I love it. I was elated to find it online for download. I should track down the actual soundtrack.

I actually have it, both the vocal and instrumental tracks. If you want a surefire way to get it, I'd be glad to supply it to you.

Trailer Park Boys. I know It's ghetto and a little vulgar, but damn is it funny and hit's close to home sometimes ;)

Now adays Pokemon seems Taboo. But I still happen to like it....not so much the anime but I still happen to like the games and the older episodes of the anime like before the orange islands arch.

There....I said it...I happen to ship some pairings, but only in some series. The series that happen to have strong/slight het hints are the ones I don't pair up a male character with another male character.

Hentai doujinshi
So bad they're funny...especialy the early Kohta Hirano ones.

Late 80s early 90s cartoons/kids shows
Shows like the disney caroons like Gummie Bears, Tail spin, Darkwing duck, ETC., the old Nick Jr. shows namely Eureka's Castle, Raffi, ETC., and old PBS shows like The magic school bus and Thomas the tank engine. I grew up on them. And I wonder now...where did the quality of those shows go? The kids shows that are out now just seem to brainwash little kids and I wonder how their parents let their kids watch that mindless dribble :eyebrow: .....

Disney animated movies
Stuff before maybe 1999 other then the pixar movies and Lilo and Stich. I always liked them...and always will. Not to mention my great grandfather was a cell artist on a few of the older disney movies made around the 30s and 40s like Bambi.

This is a guilty pleasures thread. The only way you can feel guilty is if the general concensus is that your "pleasures" suck. And I'm sorry to say that Ninja Scroll, Thundercats, Ghostbusters, Streets of Rage, James Bond and X-Men just don't qualify on the basis that they're all made of sex. :D


In my town most of the old-time gangsters (i.e. any gangster who has lived past the age of 30) all listen to oldies. Artists like Santo & Johnny, The Chi-Lites, The Isley Brothers, James & Bobby Purify, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles... ,Oh god the list goes on, are all part of the "Chicano Culture" and are pretty common around here. Normally I try not to listen to them on a regular basis so as to not burn myself out on them because every once in a while, I like to play them as well.

Of course, not listening to oldies here in Central California is rather hard because every party I attend, every dance I'm invited to and every guy driving a lowrider around town is always playing oldies. Why? Because if we Mexicans know how to do one thing really well it's to ruin the very things we love. :(

- painting miniatures ( i don't even play with them, just paint)
- baking (I'm a straight guy dammit!!!)
- listening to VGM in my car. You don't want to know how many times people have asked me what the heck I was playing.
-and finally, the scariest of all..... *looks around* ..... spending too much time here on Gamingforce, now that i'm back.

OK... THIS ONE I get all the time. For example, just 3 days ago I was listening to the Castlevania SotN soundtrack just to test the new speakers I recently got with the synthesized sounds while I was cleaning my car. Then my cousin having showed up out of nowhere just gave me this look like, "What the fuck are you listening to, you motherfucking nerd?"

- Azumanga Daioh. I don't need to explain this.

- Cheesy power metal/NWOBHM. I *love* Blind Guardian, Helloween, Priest, Maiden etc. If you recommend me Dragonforce, I'll probably scream and beat you into submission.

- Lucid dreaming. It's fun as hell, and never ceases to weird out my roommates.

I tried doing that for a good year, but I never got any good at it :(.

1. Other than that, playing Nintendogs (not too much really), but I have to admit it's pretty interestingly animated and goes to show how far hand held games have gone. So far, I still don't have any other games for the DS. LOL.

Oh, and Sarah MacLachlan, but bonus points for her no-RIAA statement a couple months ago.

Final Fantasy 10-2. So sue me, but I think the game was better made than 10-1, and didn't take itself too seriously either.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot my seasonal one. Anyone ever order from Swiss Colony around the winter holidays? You know those petit-fours (miniature bite-size cakes, for those who've never had the good fortune to be introduced to the delicacy) they sell? Yeah, they're fucking crack. CRACK. I intend to start a Swiss Colony rehab clinic when I get enough money.

I like walking around an empty house in my underwear. Especially when it's hot. Although I get freakishly paranoid that a neighbor will see me through the windows so most of the time I'm just sitting on the floor with my back against a wall eating a popsicle in the dark.

I like chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream from Godiva. I'm a picky eater who also doesn't eat much, mostly becuase I don't have the patiences but I've consumed a full pint of this ice cream before, just sitting there and having one long culinary ... err ... happy moment.

I also like drawing naked androgenous men.

i like to eat way too much cheese and crackers while watching Foster's Home for Imaginary friends.
