Wikipedias list of cancelled games
The name says it all, enjoy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ed_video_games
|
Uh, yeah.
So, is this a thread about the Wikipedia link (because that's not a thread). OR Is this a thread where we talk about cancelled games that we were looking forward to? If it's this thread, edit your first post into a good post. |

a friend of mine was like
"40 winks was suppossed to come out for that system?" I cant help but call a portion of the list a failure to launch on other systems. |
Wasn't there supposed to be a Final Fantasy 64 that got cancellled or something?

I wanted Freak Boy to come out. :( It looked neat where the main character was segmented into three portions that could be changed out for puzzle and weapon purposes. It was supposed to come out for the N64 and then 64DD.
|
A boy and his Blob for DS... I haven't checked lately, but I never knew it was cancelled??
|
Ah, Fallout 3. How we long for thee. I mean, honestly, who fires a dev team when a game is 95% completed?
What really would have been cool is if the devs released a set of tools so people could make their own modules for Fallout. I bet that would have spawned some righteous post-apoc gaming. |
Awesome link, now I can cry about the games that we're supposed to be released :p
Boohoohoo, give back my X-COM! :( |
I'm pretty sure I've posted in a very similiar thread before, but that could've been before the crash.
I was really looking forward to Simsville, but they cancelled it because it didn't fit their needs or whatever. PPPFT. Instead, they added a feature in SC4 where you can let your Sim live in your city, but it was obvious they just added that in at the last minute, since they don't DO anything otherwise. Simsville was to be a cross between SimCity and The Sims, two of my favourite games. Crap. |
Aww a Kid Icarus game for SNES was scrapped? How disappointing. I wonder if Nintendo is ever going to bring the franchise back. Maybe I'm the only one that liked the Gameboy/NES games.

Yeah I thought the same thing. What was the cause? I'm sure the game sold pretty good.
Ah, Black & White for GBC. It was doomed to fail anyway, how can you recreate the same gameplay with those limitations? Also, Dune Generations was one of the MMORPGS I looked forward too. Who doesn't want to wander in the Dune universe? |

Still, an interesting list, it's amazing just how many there were. Kinda brings back sad memories, but what are you gonna do. Oh, and I finally made a contribution to Wikipedia: I added "Outcast 2" to the list :) Oh, and there's already a PS3 game that was canceled? The console isn't even close to coming out yet! |

This list of canned games is depressing because it contains Pilotwings 64 II, Pilotwings for GameCube, a sequel to Marble Madness and a Lemmings arcade game. ;_; |
Whoa, Starcraft: Ghost canceled? Since when?
I guess it was bound to happen since the game has been in development for such a long time and still hasn't come out. I seriously forgot all about that game... |

Heh i could see starcraft ghost being cancelled....How long has that been in production 5 years? getting on up there with duke nukem forever.
|
I don't know who in their right mind would ever cancel a sequel to Snake, Rattle, 'n' Roll. They need to make this up to us, like, now, with a new game for the DS. That first one is one of the best NES games out there, top 20 for sure. Make a new one, damnit. :\
|
Someone must've went back into time to stop Starcraft Ghost from releasing..
|
lol halo for sega dreamcast! I really wish Commander Keen 6 was released for the PC though, man were those games kick ass!
|
Commander Keen for teh win :)
Man, I played those games to the death. From what i've read, the original creator got kind of pissed when seeing Super Mario 64. He mentioned he was always wondering how to bring Keen in 3D but never knew how. Then Nintendo showed up with Mario and he was like OMG IDEA STOLEN and never recovered from it or something :p |
I too would have loved more Commander Keen. So good;_;
Messiah for Dreamcast would have been a blast. I've never played it, but it looked so fun! Aliens: Colonial Marines looked awesome. Best use of a licens ever, and then they canceled it. I still mourn the loss...:( |

It came with a patch CD in the box, which should have been my first indication that it might not be up to par. Turns out the gameplay itself wasn't bad. Very hard, but not bad. The AI seemed to be pretty twitchy, though, so sometimes even the smallest mistake would call down a world of shit on you. It also crashed on me a few times, and the sound never worked right with my soundblaster card. It also kept defaulting to direct draw because it didn't like my 3dfx drivers I guess. Although, to be fair, it was better than Geist. God, the shooter part of that game should have just been cut out entirely. |
I wish nintendo had released the english version of animal crossing in N64 back then. :(
|
NiGHTS 2.
Saturn Shenmue. Grandia for Sega CD. Air NiGHTS. Black & White for DREAMCAST. Streets of Rage 4. Toejam and Earl III for Dreamcast. Wow. I'd love to see what Grandia looked like on Sega CD, and I wish Streets of Rage 4 didn't even exist. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it would look like in 3D, probably something lame like Bruteforce. |
Don't even need to look at the list. The most pained cancelled games of all time for me were: Castlevania Resurection (Dreamcast) Streets of Rage 4 (Dreamcast) and Robotech: Crystal Dreams (N64)
|
The less 3D Castlevania, the better. :( Although I suppose 3D Castlevania did spawn the chainsaw guy in the hedge maze, which is one of the most hilarious things in the history of gaming because he'd often just stand in a corner trying to cut the hedges which were made out of some kind of titanium coated diamond or something.
"RAAAR MY JOB HERE AT CASTLEVANIA IS A DIFFICULT ONE, RAAAR" |
Seeing Fear Effect: Inferno on that list makes me cry ;_;. (I'm probably the only one though).
|
There was gonna be an XB Sam & Max game? Alright, NOW I'm pissed.
Also, the list of N64 and GCN games is colossal, whereas there are nearly no cancelled SNES games. INTRIGUING. |
Kameo: Elements of Power was at one time going to be an N64 game? Oh wow, just how long have they been kicking that one around?
They were going to make another E.T. game, those madmen! I'm glad somebody realized how bad an idea that would be. The very subject ought to be taboo. A lot of other cancelled movie-based games, which is a very good sign. Maybe the execs are starting to wise up. Eyebrow raised at the idea of a Baldur's Gate port for the GBA. I suspect they mean one of the top-down hack-n-slash games that was released on PS2, though. The multiplatoform Sam and Max game was nearly complete, but then Lucasarts canned the project because they didn't want to be bothered to have to market it. I will never but another Lucasarts game again. |
Some of the NES games that were cancelled were probably cancelled for a very good reason. Examples?
- Married... with Children - New Kids on the Block - Vanilla Ice ... I can't even imagine what those games would have been like. Possibly like Home Alone on the SNES, but 10 times worse. If this is a complete list, I'm surprised there were no Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Color games that were cancelled, unless they weren't mentioned (but then again, Wonderswan was on the list). Not that the console lasted long enough for any games to actually be cancelled. What bothered me is Radiant Silvergun on PS One, I don't have a Saturn so I would have enjoyed that release. And as for Capcom Fighting All-Stars, I think it would have been a good game, seeing that Street Fighter EX+ Alpha was fun (for me, at least). What gets to me though is that, instead of something that may have been good, we get Capcom Fighting Evolution. I don't see how that game got released instead. |
They should put Duke Nukem Forever right now in that list. Enough of the urban legends.
