Your favorite asian foods?
Hmm, my favorite asian foods would be chinese foods. I love 'em especially fried rice and sea food. What's yours? Btw, are you non-asian eat rice too?
EDIT: I forgot to mention Sushi as well. Hoka2 Bento is my favorite fast food for Japanese cuisine. |
Curry Powder. That's enough said. You can add that to almost anything to make it taste good. Rice and Beans, Noodles and Beans are two of the best.
I can't stand Chinese or Japanese food. At all. Some of the most godawful stuff I've ever tasted. |
In before ramen replies.
There's this little Fish & Chip shop down here which has a smorgasbord (with no sneeze covers =D) of chinese food, which you can fill a dish up for $5. They have the best sweet chicken pork I've ever tasted. Not that I make a habit of eating chinese though. |
Since I live in the US and therefore only know of "Americanized" asian food, I don't know if I can actually say that I really like certain asian foods. Bearing this in mind, I will say that I love:
Japanese:: OMG Udon. I love Udon noodle soup, with just an egg cracked in it and maybe a miso broth. Easily my favorite, along with tempura sweet potato. Thai::Any kind of medium-spicy yellow tofu curry. Actually, curry in general. Also, thai spring rolls with coconut-peanut sauce are very good. Chinese:: I love the most american dish, Orange Chicken. I'm pretty sure this is one of those completely fake Chinese dishes, but I happen to really like it. I also am a big fan of potstickers, but there's only two places I've had them where they're really good. And of course, Spring rolls! Vietnamese:: Well, this is really generic, but I really like Pho beef noodle soup. So good! I love most asian broth-and-noodle dishes, though. Taiwanese:: Pearl Milk teas and slushies!!! India (since according to British it's "Asian"):: (vegetarian) Samosas, The Whitest Indian Dish ever (Chicken Tikka Masala), Lentils, Mango Lassis and Gajar Ka Halwa. |
Japenis: Sushi and Sashimi
Chinass: Orange Chicken Philippenis: Sinigang, Sago Gulaman Somewhere...:Instant Ramen, Dried Squid, Boba, |
Seriously, what Chaco said. Curry powder is my priestess. I put that on EVERYTHING.
Not sure if Mediterranean region counts as a part of Asia, but I LOVE Greek food. Hummus and pita bread. *DROOL* |
Chinese: Personally, I can't stand stuff like fried rice, sesame chicken, and whatnot. I'll occasionally eat at Chinese buffets, but I'm not too crazy about that either. If I want Chinese food, I have to eat it from a good restaurant, which usually means a trip to Chinatown. I have so many favorite dishes, I can't even count them all. I'm rather fond of fish fillets with yellow chives, salt and pepper squid, various types of tofu, black bean clams, walnut shrimp (that stuff is NASTY at times, so it really depends on where I order it), and some beef noodle thing. It's basically made of wide rice noodles (which are actually dark brown in color probably due to the sauce), beef, onions, and whatever else a particular restaurant wants to add. Yum!
Vietnamese: Ah, whatever, I'll say it. Pho. Amazing. Period. Japanese: I don't think I've eating too many Japanese dishes, but tose spicy rice crackers are amazing. The first bag I tried was pretty nasty, but I decided to give it another go and choose a different brand. Instant love! |
I really like egg fried rice. I could live off this stuff. I also have a soft spot for BBQ ribs.
|
I've gotten hooked on Thai soups recently. I'm also fond of miso soup. Seaweed is pretty tasty. I guess my favorite is probably shrimp fried rice and shrimp lo mein. I can't seem to get enough of either.
|
Favorite asian foods??? everything!!!! haha I love everything about asian food, any country would be fine too because everything basically looks and tastes the same (they're just called different names, but the ingredients are virtually the same...even the added MSG) haha.

Anyhow, I prefer Chinese food out of Asian cuisine. I'm not sure why, really. I've tried Japanese and Thai cooking but I never really liked it much. Could just be where I've eaten. I like a lot of Indian food. There's a Sri Lankan restaurant in my city which is excellent. |

I loves me some Mongolian beef or honey chicken whenever I have chinese, though I have to watch the honey chicken or there isn't any left. Oh and I've been known to have a spring roll or fried dim sim on occasion.
|
I guess mine's malaysian foods... which is essentially a mix of chinese, malay, indian and others stuff all together... since that's what I basically grew up with... i like my food spicy hot and sometimes.. pungent since I can't think of a better word for it... and recently korean.... I've had some homemade kimchi and it's like love at first taste... my friend's mum is a really good cook and that might explain why.... Thai is really good too.... but I can't bring myself to eat much japanese though... i find it a bit bland somehow
|
Thousand year old eggs and durian.
|
I'll have to go with sushi here.
But I also love a good pad-thai dish, or perhaps a paneer dish from India. Yum. |

Yaki Soba, miso soup, wonton and egg drop soup, chicken fried rice, noodles and orange chicken!! yum! now you are making want to go downtown for dinner!
|
Kalbi and adobo. I actually like kalbi over teriyaki. Whenever we go to L&L's or Kona mix plate I always get kalbi in my mix plate. Adobo, I don't eat anybody's adobo but my grandfather's. His taste different from everyone else, I guess maybe because we use shoyu that's made in Hawaii. Hawaiian shoyu is much different than regular shoyu.
|
The only part about chinese food i like is ........ Egg Rolls but the rest no go
|
Back to the monosodium glutamate discussion in asian cuisine...alright don't bust my balls about it when I say asian foods taste the same, because they do basically have the same ingredients and the same flavor. Glutamate is commonly found in food that are composed primarily from protein sources. Foods and ingredients that contain glutamate as an inherent component are not required to list glutamate on the label, so whether you think you're eating monosodium glutamate might not be inherent to your knowledge....but it can actually be found in tomatoes, cheeses, meats, hydrolyzed protein products such as soy sauce and tofu.
And I do eat americanized asian food but trust me...I'm filipino, my 2 best friends are korean and taiwanese....and both their families use MSG in atleast one of their meals, as well as my parents, so if you think that it's not used then you're wrong. The use of an umbrella term "Asian cuisine" disguises the immense variation in the cuisines of the countries and ethnic groups in Asia, however by calling it "Asian cuisine" then there is some similarities between the foods (geographically, staples and food production in Asia accounts for alot of the same taste because of the location). When I say it tastes the same I mean that, alot of the stuff I eat at other homes taste like the food I eat at my own, and I addressed this question in a very general manner. Oh yea and paneer is like mozarella(sp) I think, but without the salt. |
I love the home cooked chinese food I eat over at my inlaws home. Some of the stuff I didn't really care for at first, like some of their veggies because they have a bitter taste to them, but I do love how they cook lettuce. The barbaque pork ribs are awsome too, there are a couple of ways they cook them (only one way will you find in any restraunt) but they are all great. Sadly though I don't know what they call all the stuff they make.
Who has ever had Chinese sausage? Kind of bland compared to other sausages I have had but goes well with rice. Yams leaf is real tasty boiled with shrimp. There is a place in town that cooks the best Kung Poa Chicken. Almost as good as the stuff I get at home. Also Green Thai Curry is some pretty good stuff over a large bowl of rice. Pho noodle soup and fried pho noodles are both really tasty with the right sauce. Battle_CRY, try not to get all butt hurt over the ignorance of most people in regards to other cultures. It is sort of like trying to fight stupidity. |
Filipino food for the win.
Adobo. Enough said. I also enjoy other Filipino dishes and desserts, such as menudo, pancit, tocino, longaniza, halo-halo, lechon, puto, and lumpia. |
Lumpia is from filipina? I thought that was from China.

Kalbi. OMG. So awesome.
Ramen is a given - I eat it all the time. Kimbap or Sushi is a given as well. Bulgogi, Kimchi and Rice. Just give me that and I'm set for dinner. Or better yet, Bibimbap. I've had Lumpia before. Very very good, though I haven't had it in years. |
Fave Asian foods: Cheese wontons, sushi, wasabi and obviously, ramen. And I am indeed non-asian and I eat rice religiously.
|
This question is so broad for me, it's like what's you favorite food PERIOD?
Well last week my Korean friend's mom gave me a giant platter of kimchi and pork, which was so delicious I put it on all foods for 3 straight days before I ran out (pizza, salads, hot dogs and the like). Chinese food I'm currently craving are crab meat shanghai wontons, which are fabulous at this one little store in LA and Taiwanese beef tendon noodle soup. OH, and scallion green onion fried flat biscuit, and cold chicken noodles. Japanese, I love salmon sashimi and Aijisen cha-shu ramen, that shit is orgasmic. I'm hungry now. I think I'll get some beef Vietnamese pho. |

For me....Filipino foods all the way...nothing else can compare (But that's because I'm biased)
Sinigang and Adobo...WITH LOTS OF RICE. Ma sarap! hahah |
|
Since "Asian" is a pretty wide category, I'll break it into smaller parts:
- INDONESIAN: Nasi Timbel - INDIAN: Poori - JAPANESE: A bit hard to choose ... but I'll stick with Tenzaru Soba (cold soba with ebi tempura) - KOREAN: BULGOGI :D - CHINESE: Another difficult one to choose. I'll stick with Ma Po Tofu and Xiao Long Bao ... this is making me hungry ... |
I love tempura shrimp and fried vegitables . Granted they're probably the least helthy choice of all but I still can't get enough of them. Also, I love won ton soup iof it's made properly. I can't say exactly for sure what's the "right way" but I ve had won ton's from a couple places and they tasted terrible.
|
Oh so many choices....
Filipino --- sinigang- it's all about the broth, screw that up and it sucks adobo- mmm beef palabok - noodles are always tasty for me, I only like certain peoples' preparations since the supplementary ingredients vary from person to person Chippy - brand of chips, but infinitely more addicting than Lays or any other NA brand by far Chinese --- Orange Beef - all about the sauce which gives it that faux trademark "orange" taste. Orange Chicken is just as delicious for me. Japanese --- I would say sushi too, but I don't mind it. It's not something I actively want to eat, but I enjoy eating it when possible. Just not filling enough for me to fall under my favourite asian food. As a side note, I dislike Pad Thai because I'm not too keen on peanuts+noodles. |
I didn't start eating at Asian resturants until I was 18, but I do consider Sesame Seed Chicken with a side of rice to be my favorite Asian dish. Sweet-N-Sour Chicken comes in at a close second. Oddly enough, none of the Asian restaurants I have attended had sushi.

As for other Asian foods, I really like sushi. Tuna is my favorite, although around here the only good sushi place is astromically expensive. As for Chinese food I've always been a big fan of the orange chicken and egg rolls. Goddamnit I'm really hungry now. :/ |

I'm adding that I loooooove Japanese candy, especially Meiji's 'Gummy Choco' and Blueberry marshmallows. I just got back from an asian grocery-store binge, and I've eaten way more sugar than I'm supposed to consume in the span of 5 hours :D. |
lol...I'm suprised to see no: "Chicken Balls! Spring Rolls!" jks
Japan: Udon Chinese: "Yuk Bang" (Meat pie in literal translation, kinda like chinese meat loaf, homestyle dish), Salted duck egg, soy sauce...but most of all chinese white rice! |
Ramen. I'm a lazy cook when it comes to myself. It's quick, easy, and relatively tasty for what's essentially water, noddles, and powder.

I actually have, and it's rather not so surprising how much better it tastes. But eh, it's either going to my stove or drive over an hour away to the only restaurant I know of that serves it... and well, it just doesn't taste THAT good. |
I just recently found out sushi (well I knew it existed and what it was but never tasted it before)
and now I'm in love with this XD there's a sushi restaurant like 3 street away of my house god it's so good, I would eat that everyday XD the other asian food I like is the general tao chicken, the aunt of my firend does a so good general tao chiken (yep she's asian XD) I'm not sur if it's chinese I think I read it's Vietnamese food there's one think I see often in anime or asian show, is that big white donut like thing (well it look like a donot without hole XD) I think it look good but I have no idea what it is XD |
Mee goreng rojak from Melaka Malaysia. Spicy, tasty, cheap, lots, omg!

Rice = <3 If you love rice, you must eat indonesian nasi goreng (fried rice). Here I'm staying in country which blessed with wide variety of exotic local cuisines. |
Sadly, ive not eaten any asian foods except japanese and chinese. but my favories are:
Wonton soup, sushi, orange chicken, udon, yaki soba, and white rice! (not in that order) and wasabi makes me cry. not really. |
Japanese stuff: Miso soup, plain salmon sashimi, california rolls, chicken teriaki, anything with wasabi... Hell, most sushi out there
Thai stuff: Pad Thai, anything with duck Chinese stuff: Spring rolls, wonton soup, anything with duck |
I'm a bit surprised nobody mentioned kim-chi. I love fresh Korean kim-chi, smothered in hot sauce. When it comes to Siam cooking, I love tom yum soup. I'm allergic to onions and hot peppers, so I break out in to hives everytime I have a bowl, but it makes me feel super happy, like I just smoked a dubie. I'm really not a big fan of fish, but I do like fatty tuna once in a while too.
|
Kung Po chicken counts doesn't it? I like that. There's a chow mein dish that I like it's simple with a veg I'm not sure what though.
Tried some Japanese beef curry or something like that, the beef was bacon-like, twas nice. |

I hear Richmond is good in BC. |
There are so many Asian foods that I like, but to name a few...
I really enjoy chicken and rice curry, especially the kind my mom makes. ;) I also love ramen, mostly the chicken flavored kind, but I also like the shrimp flavored. Anything with teriyaki on it is good (within reason, of course). Wonton soup is nice, as well as chicken or beef dumplings. And, of course, we have the Asian snack foods, which I love (i.e. pocky, hi-chew, yan-yan, etc.). :) |
Hmm, I like Tonkatsu and just about any Korean dish with rice and soup. I also like Korean BBQ ribs and Japanese bento.
|
Probably sushi, I like lots of other foods, but none are just as tasty
|
Just thinking about fried rice with Mongolian lamb makes me drool.... yum! :D
|
I don't know if I should speak out, but since I'm Chinese I know about a few non-Americanized dishes and Beijing duck is always a nice choice.
|
When I'm at work at the pub and get hungry, rather than waste cash on packets of peanuts, I go to the Chinese across the road who do me a huge bag of Prawn Crackers and a big old pot of Sweet & Sour sauce for £2.40. Tastes awesome, sorts out any hunger.
Other than that though, I'm more fond of Anglicised Chinese food than any authentic Chinese stuff. Lemon & Ginger Chicken is awesome, as is Crispt Shredded Beef. |
Pad Thai, Cashew Nut Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Sushi w/ wasabi, Salmon Sashimi, Crab Rangoons, General Cho's Chicken, Crab Crouqettes, Green Milk Pearl Tea, Szechuan Beef.....I can go on for days.....
|
I've just discovered that I really like Kamaboko, aka Fish Cake. :(
This really disgusts me, but it's too late. I love it with Udon and egg, so now I know what I'm going to be buying at the asian supermarket when I go back to Austin. |
Moo Guu Gai Pan. Chicken, all the different Chinese veggies, water chestnuts and bamboo Mmm! It's always been my favorite. General Tao's Chicken is good too, when your in the mood for something spicy.
