Avatar: The Last AirBender

Quote:

In a lost age, the world is divided into four nations: Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. Within each nation, there is a remarkable order of men and women called the "benders" who can learn to harness their inborn talent and manipulate their native element. Bending is a powerful form combining martial art and elemental magic.

In each generation, only one bender is solely capable of controlling all four elements. That bender is the Avatar. The Avatar is the spirit of the world manifests in human form. When the Avatar dies, it reincarnates into the next nation in the cycle. Starting with the mastery of his or her native element, the Avatar learns to bend all four elements. Throughout the ages, the countless incarnations of the Avatar have served to keep the four nations in harmony.

Then, the firebenders attacked. Just as the world needed the Avatar the most, he mysteriously vanished. A hundred years later, the Fire Nation is near final victory in its ruthless war of world tion. The Air Nomads were destroyed, the Air Temples ravished, and all airbender monks eradicated. The Water Tribes were raided and driven to the brink of extinction. The Earth Kingdom remains and fights a hopeless war against the Fire Nation. Many believe the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads and the cycle is broken.

In the desolated South Pole, a lone Water tribe struggles to survive. It is here that the village's last remaining waterbender Katara and her warrior brother Sokka rescue a strange 12-year-old boy named Aang who has been suspended in hibernation in an iceberg. The tribe soon discovers that Aang is not only an Airbender--the extinct race no one has seen in a century--but also the long lost Avatar. Now Katara and Sokka must safeguard the child Avatar in his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation.
This is by far, one of my favourite cartoon shows. It may seen a little childish but once you realize it's more than a bald kid with a hot mexican girl with waterpowers, it gets quite good, if not very very good. Great humour, character development, storyline... try it:

Biggest surprise to come out of Nickelodeon so far. The writing is pretty clever most of the time, although it can get predictable. I really like the fantasy world they crafted for this show.

Art and animation is good, too. There's some attention to detail in the different nations' costumes and the four bending styles that I can appreciate. There are even some fight scenes that are cool enough to be in a major martial arts movie. Plus, of course, it's very refreshing to see a kid's cartoon on TV featuring human characters who don't have vegetable-shaped heads.

All in all, a show that I can recommend to just about anyone. Check it out.

now where's my rocko dvd, nickelodeon

Synthesis Mar 3, 2006 10:54 PM

I was surprised to find that I was watching this on Nickelodeon. The concept of the show is thought-provoking, but not too difficult to understand. All in all, this show definitely has promise.

aku Mar 3, 2006 11:43 PM

This show is rather good, i mean its not breakthrough material, but they did a very good job writing the script, the animation is smooth(not 3rd frame like anime) and at acting is top notch...i believe i saw some where that each episode costs close to 1mil. so yeah they take their time with this stuff.
and http://www.mininova.org/tor/218501 there you can find a torrent for all 20 episodes and a tv special, but the dvd is like 10 at walmart, so go pick up a copy, its worth 50 for the first season? wouldnt you say?

this isn't one of my favorite series but from the first episode from the second season it looks like it has some potential. The story is definitly getting better.
Spoiler:
The avatar series consist of four elements but now I see how zuko (not sure if thats his name or if thats how you spell it) said something like "my father said my sister is a prodigy and so lucky to be born with such skill....and that I was lucky to ever be born" Now I can see why, his sister is the only person that can shoot lighting and even though its sort of cool, wtf is up with that. It kinda ruined the elemental circle @_@ Zuko is still one of my favorites becuase he fights, not to get rid of the avatar, but to capture him to gain his fathers love and respect. And even though he is kinda mixed up and selfish I feel he will join up with the avatar or atleast help him along the way and eventually fight his father in the process.

I still think the series need more permenent characters to stick with the series becuase they all eventually all come and go during only one episode. I just hope Saka remains as the only annoying character, he has enough of it to make me want to cut that rat he calls a hair cut >_<

Every series has there own version of Krillin, the annoying comic-relief.

OH MY GOD

Dude, I just watched episode 2 and it's incredible *__* Hooooollly fuuuuUUuuuuuck

In reference to your spoiler though, here are my thoughts:

Spoiler:
Well, she's obviously a prodigy, but you can that their uncle could manipulate lighting as well. Personally, I think lighting is a category of fire, much like ice is to water, stone is to earth, and wind is to air. It just probably takes a large amount of skill to manipulate the sub-categories (like how Katara makes the cool ice stuff) I don't think Sohka's an annoying character. Sure, he's the comic relief guy, but so is Aang. And, like the avatar, Sohka has plenty of moments where he's a dependable and responsible guy.

Now, my general thoughts for the episode:

Spoiler:
Wow, that general guy was a fuckin' bastard. He pretty much treated Aang like a weapon rather than a person. =/

Ooh, a Sohka looks like SUCH a surfer with his hair down, especially with that choker XD;;.

I'm surprised to see how truly brutal Zuko's sister (still can't remember the name) is too. I can't wait until Aang and her face-off...

But seeing that Zuko and his uncle are now officially outlaws running from the Fire Nation, maybe they'll team up with Aang and co.? That way, his uncle can teach Aang fire-bending after he learns from Bumi.

Speaking of Bumi, maybe they'll all meet at Omashu? It's pretty much one of the only strongholds left against the Fire Nation, and I can see King Bumi the type of person who'd welcome anyone into the country. But, I also wonder if Bumi is still alive; I mean, he's more than a hundred years old, although there's no guarantee what the death age is in this world. Still, it would be interesting to see another earth bender that would help Aang....

Shenlon Mar 19, 2006 08:59 AM

Yeah I watched episode 2 as well when it came out:
Spoiler:
I see what your saying about different elements being combined from one like water with ice, or the way earth is created into mud but I dont see how fire creates lighting. I would think that Lighting would go along the lines of water or maybe wind but fire is different from my point of view. "Uncle" I think Can't Create Lightning he can only manipulate it, thats why he grabbed her hand and sort of Projected the attack to another direction, but zuko's sister can only create it out of her own body. So I still think she's a "one and only".
I was surprised to hear that he needed to go to back to his friend Bumi for training, He should have sought it when he was already there but I guess he needs to learn them in a certain order for him to control the next properly so he wont cause the problem as when he tried to learn fire bending.

and thats all I got to say about that ^_^
Although I'd like to see a few new characters brought into the story that are a more permenent part of the plot. I'd like to see another "prodigy" that has the elements of a "fake avatar" in which I mean he can control all elements in some way.

Hmm, you have a point, but:

Spoiler:
I personally think lighting is a better sub-category for fire instead of water or wind, since lighting and fire both have "energy", y'know? And lighting creates fires, much like how ice will eventually melt into water, or how stone is "earth" particles...

...>_<;; Well, maybe that didn't make much sense.

Anyways, Zuko's sister (STILL can't remmber the name, argh. I should just rewatch the episode) is a total bitch, I love her. She a really interesting foil for Zuko, and I wonder how far she'll go in order to capture the avatar and her brother and uncle.

I forgot to mention this, but poor Zuko! He was so happy that his father wanted him back, but now he knows that he's seen as a worthless failure. I wonder though, since there's probably no way he can (re?)gain his father's trust, will he even bother to hunt the avatar? Or, will he be even more determined to capture him before his sister...?

I do think it's kinda weird how Aang visisted Bumi, but didn't learn any earth bending. Then again, he probably didn't know about the how comet thing, and might've been taking it easy, I suppose. Or maybe there's a reason to keep to the specific order?

EDIT: Oh shit, I just remembered!

In episode 16, the Deserter, Aang tries to learn fire-bending before he learns water or earth first, right? But it didn't go according to plan:

Spoiler:
When he burns Katara's hands, he demonstrated that he couldn't control the wildness of fire.

So, does that mean that, for an air avatar, fire has to be last because it's the most conflicting element, or the hardest to control without learning the other three first? >_>;;

ChibiSaysMew Mar 22, 2006 06:29 PM

I haven't seen any of the new season yet (don't get much TV time), but I do love the show. Seeing something like that come out of Nickelodeon makes me happy. n___n;;

Yeah thats what I mentioned before becuase:
Spoiler:
The dude said something about learning the other elements first becuase fire is too wild to control

And you got a point about lightining creating fire, but thats when it strikes something. I'll wait to see if she can actually create fire as well.

Aoie_Emesai Mar 23, 2006 09:04 AM

Avatar The Last Air Bender is a great show. Much better than any of the new shows on CN. I like how the storyline goes, though it's sorta regular. I'm glad it has its own originality in it too.

Oh, did you? My mistake! (And it's been a while since I watched that episode too ^_^;; )

I'm sure she can create fire; after all, she's a prodigy, right?

And I looked at the Avatar homepage, and (I'll put it in spoilers, although it's right there on the Nick site):

Spoiler:
Suuposedly, super strong water benders can manipulate people like puppets because human beings are composed of about 2/3 water. That being said, I wonder if Katara'll manage to do that?

Ugh, if Avatar had a high rating, it'd be interesting to see if a waterbender can make someone explode. But that's pretty greusome...

kensuke May 16, 2006 08:49 PM

Hey it's been a while, but has Season 2 finished yet? I'd like to download it all as one package to watch rather than wait 1 ep at a time.

Shenlon May 16, 2006 09:06 PM

I think you can find some torrents on a few sites like www.torrentspy.com and www.isohunt.com.
New episodes have started airing last week I think, its the continuation to the 2nd book. I didn't think much of the series since Ang is such a damn kid but zuko's story is so much more interesting from what they showed in the new episode. I'm also glad he started growing his hair ^_^

aku May 16, 2006 10:12 PM

season 2 is only on episode 7, eight will air this week i believe. you can also pick up the first 2 dvdsfor 11 at wallmart! first 8 eps, and bonuses!(which arnt anythign really special) but still, 11 for 4 eps destroys most other anime pricing, so i will probably go for it as soon as i have made some money(working this summer)

Acacia May 22, 2006 11:11 PM

I am totally going to buy the DVDs. Although I have all of the episodes on my computer, I'd rather have it in much high quality, and without the silly Nick logo -_-;; (plus, I'd be supporting the industry...or something!)

Anyways, who watched the episode 7, 'Zuko Alone'?

Spoiler:
I think Zuko's my favorite character. I love how much character development the creators are putting into Zuko. They give him a tragic backstory, but they don't change his current personality. Love his new hairstyle too XD.

But who were thinks his mother died? Or did she simply run away? Did she kill Fire Lord Azulon?

I also want to see more Earth-Bending Toph! She's going to be an interesting member of the party; I wonder how she'll interact with the rest, Sokka in particular.

aku Jun 20, 2006 12:52 AM

Well, on Mininova you can find isos of the first 3 dvds, which you can also pick up for like $11 at walmart(not a bad price). I went and picked them up today and at my walmart i got them for 25 for all the, little sale i guess.
Besides teh quallity jump there is no really diffirence in the DVDs though. i got them just because i happend to see all 3 and have the money otherwise i probly wouldnt have. But i still really like it, the special features are inrresting to say the least.

Sepharite Jun 30, 2006 11:59 PM

I have the entire first season... if anyone wants an episode, I'll try to upload it.

Btw, it's not DVD rip.

Anyways, Avatar roxxors. Bye.

Synthesis Jul 15, 2006 04:36 PM

Avatar news:

Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Complete Book I Collection is scheduled to be released on September 19th. I'll certainly be picking that up.

Sinner_Krono Jul 18, 2006 10:37 AM

It is Nickelodeon's closest thing to and anime and it not half bad. I love the show. It raises so many questions about what will happen next. Will Aang and Katara ever get together.

Cirno Jul 18, 2006 08:37 PM

The show's pretty decent. The action scenes have gotten better. I remember the first season's action scenes looked nice, but it felt like it was just a demo for various martial art moves without any actual connection (since they were using elemental powers and seldom went in for punch/kicks).

Although I'm loosely following the show, it's still interesting. Prince Zuko or whatever is cool without being annoyingly 'emo,' but I think I enjoy Toph and Sokka's screen time more than anything else on the show.

Each of the styles of bending is based off a style of Chinese Marical Arts, Kung Fu...let me go check which is which, i will edit this in a few moments
Water Bending is basiced on Tia Chi
Earth Bending is basiced on Hung Gar(Tiger and Crane Style)
Fire Bending is basiced on Northern Shaolin Kung Fu
Air Bending is Basiced on Bagua(Circle Walking)
From the DVD extras ^^

Episode 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=30993S8L

Acacia Jan 20, 2007 11:34 PM

So, Season 2 has been over for quite some time. Who here's watched it?

Spoiler:
WHAT THE FUCK.

Ba Sing Se, the last stronghold against the Fire Nation, has fallen. Aang and friends retreat after getting their asses handed to them, and Zuko, after some soul-searching, decides that his status as a Fire Nation prince is more important than saving the world and sides with Azula.

YEAH.

The season finale was pretty amazing, I was totally not disappointed. (Though the hug at the end was kinda lame, but hey, it IS a kid's show...?) Sokka parting with his father again, Katara almost healing Zuko's scar, Toph METALbending, and Aang-kinda-dying seriously blew my expectations away.

I don't know when the third season will start, but I wonder what's going to happen, with the solar eclipse and Sozen's Comet and whatever -_-;;

Thanks for the links, I just started downloading it.

I found myself watching this some weekends ago and I really liked it. I think the drawing and the script are really cool, it is like a role playing game cartoon. :)

It's been a while since I last saw a cartoon from the TV. I remember when I was a child and it seems to me that the cartoons where far better than they are now.

Anyway, I liked Avatar, it's something different from the crappy cartoons the boys watch nowadays on TV.

That show is not bad It's actually a good American made anime series it makes u think whats going to happen next to the characters

Drat, those downloading links are long-since expired.

I've caught episodes of this here and there, and it's a pretty good series. Unfortunately, the beginning and end of season one get rerun a lot, but never the episodes in the middle. Same with season 2.

I have both seasons. I can upload any episode you want.

The Plane Is A Tiger Feb 18, 2007 02:31 AM

Unfortunately I'm not sure which ones I've already seen between 102-117. It would be nice if you could upload ep. 110: "Jet" though. He played a somewhat large role in season 2, but I never saw where he originated from.

I wasn't sure if you missed my previous post so I assumed some of the links were dead but nope, the Jet episode is working. But do you want episode 118+?

I'll post it again for you lazy mofos xD

Why would you need subtitles? You don't understand English orally? But google it anyways.

I'll upload that episode tomorrow. And did 119 work, since I think you need both 119/120.

t1m0thy82 Feb 23, 2007 08:24 AM

yes the 119 work

sorry bro the chapter 119 it works...

for the english subtitle... yes im a little bit confuse if i only hear it bcoz im form indonesia... we use indonesian language... so english is not our main language...

so if i dont understand the word i still can understand it by look at the text.

so if u all have the link for downloading the english subtitle... it would be a great help...

Sorry, I forgot to upload 120. I guess you don't need it anymore? =/

And check the site -- it has season 2. http://www.forosdz.com/foro/showthread.php?t=153149

And not yet, Avatar comes back between April - August. Not confirmed though.

Radez Feb 24, 2007 09:10 PM

The last two seasons had original air-times starting late february or early march. But I can't find any information about season three except that it exists and that it'll be in 2007. Given how season 2 ended, that's pretty frustrating. :(

I got all the episodes thanks to torrents, anyone can upload the unaired PILOT from the season one DVD?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen ALL the episodes in order so I am confused. The series is very interesting and is humourous. I would watch it but I guess I'm just too lazy to watch it ^.-

But nonetheless, the show rocks. ^^

Thanks!

News on the live action movie, and it may ease your worries.

Quote:

Fans will be pleased to hear that Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have finally voiced their thoughts about the upcoming live-action Avatar movie.

In an interview with Sci-Fi.com the co-creators said they are looking forward to the movie and have met with Shyamalan and feel confident he will stay true to the Avatar storyline.

"The movie is in the earliest stages, so it is too soon to comment on exactly what we will be doing," said Konietzko. "However, Mike and I have met with Night and, on top of really admiring his craft, he is a great guy who really respects the material. It means a lot to us that he personally chose to do this project and we look forward to helping him in any way."

This news comes as an enormous relief to many Avatar fans who feared the live-action movie might diverge substantially from the original story. It also dispels fears that the co-creators were going to be left completely out of the creative process as Paramount did not specify their level of contribution when announcing the deal with Shyamalan.

"We are thrilled that there is going to be a feature film of Avatar and that M. Night Shyamalan is writing, producing and directing it," DiMartino said. "Personally, I can't wait to see Appa fly!"

Thanks to Lisa31468 for the update, and the many others who emailed with the news!

As if the live action news wasn't surprising enough, here's another one: The first Season 3 DVD volume one has a release date, and still nothing on the TV air date?!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ireVolume1.jpg

Katara seems to be getting a new look, a HOT new look! Toph as well from the looks of it.

Aang has hair?!

Sokka with a sword, about time.

http://www.avatarspirit.net/

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7629

Quote:

In a surprise move, the release date for the first DVD set for the as yet unaired third season of Avatar has been announced by Paramount Home Entertainment. The street date for the set, which will include the first five episodes of the new season, is October 30th. Please see the full write up on TVShowsOnDVD.com which contains further details, including some solid speculation on a season three premiere date of late September.

The awesome cover art at left (click on the thumbnail to see the full size version) has the Gaang in Fire Nation garb, and, as many have been speculating would be the case, Aang with a full head of hair. This revealing cover art, along with the release date being announced before the episodes have even aired, has caused some controversy in the forum over the authenticity of this information. To settle this fast, we contacted Dave Lambert, the News Director for TVShowsOnDVD.com. He confirmed the information and indicated that TVShowsOnDVD.com gets its information right from Paramount's password protected press website.
If anyone here is heading to the Comicon panel, please ask why the hell we would know the DVD release date before the airing date of S3?

Though the best part of the news is that if Nick are still being idiots and not giving us a air date, we WILL see the new episodes in Oct 30th and they can't do a damn thing about it.

Zergrinch Jul 12, 2007 09:19 AM

Finally, at least now we have a set date for the premier, be they via DVD or TV :p

That being said, I think the cover art is awful. Aang in hair looks..... interesting. I don't care for Katara or Sokka's new look. And Toph looks like a little punk.

SilverHawk Jul 16, 2007 10:29 PM

I hope they don't spoil this with a direct-to-DVD release. The show deserves SO much better...

Rufftoon now works with the Avatar crew as story board artist, and she also did comics for various cartoons like Teen Titans and now Avatar. The stuff she shows on her DA, unless stated otherwise, is just for fun and not official Avatar art. Though she has posted a comic preview for the Season 3 magazine.

That's Avatar Roku, the previous Avatar before Aang, possibly a flashback of him when he was younger.

He's the old dude Aang talks to in various occasions when he's in his spirit form.

shadoweave Aug 29, 2007 09:36 AM

Was it? Couldn't recognise him for some reason. Ah well. My bad.

Kairi Li Aug 29, 2007 10:23 AM

Thats cause he's younger in that scene, brunette instead of white hair. And lack of wrinkles.

shadoweave Aug 29, 2007 10:26 AM

Ah. I see. Now that you mentioned it, he does look like Roku. Hmm. Can't wait for Season 3 to be out...

Also, Season 2 DVD boxset should be out. The DVD includes 2 animated shorts not previously shown, along with the shown "School Time Shipping."

Some Barnes and Nobles already have the avatar magazine out! So go get it!

The premiure episode will be on soon! Only about a week left!

Kairi Li Sep 21, 2007 11:13 PM

The first episode of Season 3 just aired! Includes bonus chibi short at the end of it too! One torrent at Mininova has the episode AND the short, is the one with the word BONUS at the end.

Spoiler:
What a great episode, awesome bending, great character developments and plot advancement.

We FINALLY see Lord Ozai's face, and we see more of Azula's coniving plots that shows just how much she thinks ahead.

Aang's journey to realising he's not alone, he hasn't failed and still got a job to do was just well done, and the final symbolic moment with his glider being his grave on cresecent island... Powerful

Poor Zuko just can't catch a break DESPITE finally getting what he wants. And yet you can tell he's still mulling his morals over. But it looks like next week he's gonna make sure Aang will stay dead. Don't cha love previews?

Katara finally breaks down emotionally after not seeing her dad for so long, and after all the crap that happened in S2. Its hard for one to stay so strong and be the glue for everyone for so long.

Loved all the cameos and guest appearance from characters last season as well, along with Princess Yue. Though her apperance may seem sudden unless you played the Spirit World game on Nick, or watched those game scenes on the S2 DVD.

Overall, great opener to S3, can't wait for next week!

shadoweave Sep 26, 2007 02:03 AM

Downloading now! Hopefully it'll turn out good...

shadoweave Sep 29, 2007 05:36 AM

Okay, I've watched both episodes 1 and 2!

Really great in my opinion and I can't wait for the other upcoming ones.

Admittedly though, I thought some of the developments were rather cliched and that the characters could've been developed a bit more in-depth. But hey, I guess it's a children's show after all.

Masashin Oct 2, 2007 12:51 PM

Def, especially episode 2..Great animation, talk about motion capture owness!!! Can't wait for episode 3 XD

Kairi Li Oct 3, 2007 10:27 AM

I loved the dancing between Aang and Katara. Excellant animation in that entire scene. Despite lack of action and bending, the episode looked fantanstic!

The development does seem abit cliche, but I'm sure more is to come, after all, the season is just beginning, and I kinda missed the filler that was more in Season 1. Its nice to see some light hearted events after the dire events in Season 2.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 3, 2007 10:33 AM

And you should all get your hands on the Nickelodeon Avatar magazine, because a good friend of mine did the artwork, and you should buy his things and make him money. Even if it is a crappy anime.

Funny enough, people have theorised and concluded that this was possible ages ago, but we didnt think it would in the show since, well, Nick being kiddie and all...

Yet it passed the censors, I am impressed.

Creepiest episode ever in Avatar.

Acacia Nov 12, 2007 06:13 AM

Er, I've been seeing a lot of torrents for episodes that haven't aired yet, which makes me a little suspicious to their nature. I know it's always possible that it could've been stolen or leaked early, but it seems that Nick is pretty strict about things like that.

Anyways, 'The Puppetmaster' was fuckin' awesome. Took me 'bout halfway to remember that character that was in the card game (I think it was a guy though?). It's episodes like these that make me wish that Avatar had a more mature rating. Still, they managed to put a LOT of dark undertones and implied brutality for the older audiences.

BLOOD-BENDING DX

Kairi Li Nov 12, 2007 06:38 AM

Holy hell. Like, those 2 episodes were the best episodes I have seen so far. Words can't describe the sheer awesomeness. So much that was build up or not mentioned before hand just all came clashing in this one hour episode.

Also, the episodes were crisp clear, no Nick Logo on the bottom, AND we see the REAL credits as oppose to the commercial crap Nick plays in every one of their show's credits. Its a no brainer that this was ripped from the latest volume DVDs, which isnt suppose to be out till MUCH later. Obviously someone got their hands on a review copy of sorts and toss it on the net.

EDIT:No wait, judging from the source site url and the quality, this is Turbo Nick. FLV obviously meant that it was suppose to let people stream. And the url is Viacom.

The fools at Nick must have tossed it on the servers way too prematurly and underestimated people's hacking ablities.

Zergrinch Nov 15, 2007 08:05 PM

I just viewed 310 and 311 and all I can say is

Spoiler:
AWESOME! For a defeat, it certainly didn't feel like one. The Gaang looks set to quadruple in size, and I can't wait for the Zuko confrontation with 1 airbender, 1 waterbender, 2 earthbenders, and 1 swordsman. :D

The Plane Is A Tiger Nov 17, 2007 01:16 AM

I was all set to watch 310/311 tonight, and then the site decided to go down. Had just enough time to torrent them instead though, and man that was cool.

Spoiler:
It'll be interesting to see how the Zuko confrontation goes considering he's already betrayed them once, but I want to see Iroh again the most. Hopefully we'll see what he's up to soon.

Also, I love the Fire Nation so much now that they have all-out airship fleets. <3

I'm not sure if its just my local best buy, but i was lookin round and BOTH avatar box sets where 50% off, $26.50 and $25.00. That is pretty hard to beat, so I picked them up. Happy hunting to yall. I just thought I would tell you guys.

Also something that in the Earth Box set Bonus stuff there is an interview with Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko and M. Night Shyamalan about the 3 Live action movies one for each of the 3 books. From the interview it still seems like its in the very early stages of development. and doesnt seem to give much real info on it. They according to the interview that that point he said it would be 2 years before they would have a cast. Still interesting stuff.
also its kinda interesting to see how things change between the Pilot and the First episode. (pilot being included with the first box, and never aired on TV)

Kairi Li Jan 4, 2008 11:35 PM

Its a well known fact by now that Season 3 is the last season. Various con reports and interviews with the creators have said so. Avatar Spirit fansite has been keeping everyone up to date on every single news and fact, and I believe some of the staff has been maintaining the WIKI site.

Its concreate. But relax. Mike and Byran the creators said they are not done with the Avatar world, and I dont' think the live action films are their only plans yet from their last interviews. Check the Avatar Spirit news archives for more info.

And before you pull the "fansites won't contain official info" crap, these guys have direct contact with people from Nick, and some of their staff has met Mike and Bryan.

I know it sucks that the show will end soon, but at least they are able to conclude it before Nick tries to run it to the ground... You want Avatar to become like Spongebob? Besides, the show alway had an end coming along, it ends when Aang finishes his confrontation with the firelord.

I know that Avatar and Danny Phantom (another I show I liked on Nick) had episodes airing in other countries first before the US. Teen Titans also had that going on as well when it was still playing.

From the looks of Canada's YTV schedule, we should be getting a new episode on the 11th and 18th. Check the topic every friday and see if theres'a new episode.

Zergrinch Jan 6, 2008 08:30 AM

313 has so much pretty avatar/sig material, I've changed my set. I hope people don't misinterpret it :3:

Zergrinch Jan 12, 2008 07:16 AM

No new Avatar in Canada, but apparently 314 is entitled The Boiling Rock Part 1, while 315 is The Boiling Rock Part 2.

Some fans think it's got something to do with a prison, and hopefully a jailbreak.

aku Feb 18, 2008 02:42 PM

Well, Looking at the TV Guide website. it says the next time Avatar is going to air it will
Fri, Feb 29 8:30 PM(US Eastern Time)on Nickelodeon. It does not list the name of the episode, but hopefully it will be a new one. Whether it airs outside the US before then or not I do not know.

And on that, has anybody tried to watch the so called 'leaks' that I have seen? It looks like a bounch of spam bullshit to me, but it says they have season 3 epsisodes 14-17 on them, so if someone is willing to risk the spyware invasion to see, if ya wouldn't mind giving some feedback on those.

Just to up lvl2

Kairi Li Feb 22, 2008 09:00 AM

Considering Season 3 Vol 3 DVD release date, new episodes could very well not air till April. There's no info on when Nick will air new episodes. They're too busy catering to the ignorant little bastards that find a sponge more fancinating then a bunch of kids controlling fire, water, air and earth.

Trouble is, this show has continuity like an episode of Lost or Heroes, and Nick doesn't grant the same type of air dates and hiatus times like those shows. It just... floats in limbo till they remember it or something.

Quintus Mar 30, 2008 08:44 PM

I've yet to see anything on Nick regarding the return of Avatar, but if they chose to drop Zoey 101 over the whole Jamie Lynn being pregnant thing, that's X more time for them to slip in Avatar. Here's hoping for an avatarful 2008!

Kairi Li Mar 30, 2008 11:36 PM

Unless they delay the DVD releases, the worst case scenario is that we get new episodes in May.

And they know it will be retarded to not air the episodes before the DVD release. I have a feeling that SOMETHING will be announced soon. Someone who worked in the Nick Avatar magazine states that he hears that they will announce something Avatar episode related at thr NY Comic Con, which starts on April 18th.

And Kid's Choice Awards last night announced that Avatar one the Best Cartoon award, beating the living shit out of the sea sponge. If this doesn't tell Nick that fans are desperate for episodes, I don't know WHAT.

EDIT:

The creators are going to NY Comic Con! There will be previews for the upcoming episodes and they will talk about FINALE!!!

Everyone's watched Boiling Rock, right?

Fuckin' awesome. I'm so glad the hiatus was broken by two excellent episodes~ I TOTALLY did not predict the ending at all:

Spoiler:
Mai turning on Azula (and her own country) was a shock, but seeing Ty Lee side with Mai was killer. Must be tough for the perfect Fire Nation princess to be betrayed, eh? Wonder if this will bring change to her character/personality at all?

After Boiling Rock there's only five more episodes, right? How the hell are they gonna end this series in five episodes??

Zergrinch Apr 28, 2008 08:17 PM

Six, actually. They're going to have to end it in six episodes.

Episode titles:

316 - The Southern Raiders (flashback episode, it seems)
317 - The Ember Island Players (clip show, kinda)
318 - Part 1 of 4-part Finale
319 - Part 2 of 4-part Finale
320 - Part 3 of 4-part Finale
321 - Part 4 of 4-part Finale

Kairi Li May 4, 2008 09:45 PM

Saw Boiling Rock, totally agreed that the end part was a twist, and as for Azula? The Comic Con trailer indicates that she will slowly get unhinged....

Unless Canada airs episodes early, we now all have to wait for July for the rest of the episodes. Also Southern Raiders is not just a flashback episode...

Spoiler:
Its the episode where Katara will confront the people who murdered her mother, Zuko goes with her.

Sakabadger May 5, 2008 12:31 AM

Zuko sure is getting himself in Sokka/Katara's good graces, huh?

Boiling Rock was great, except for the part when Azula flies a la Iron Man. That was a bit too much, really. My opinion of Ty Lee and especially Mai went up a lot. Way to go, girls.

Best line: "My first girlfriend turned into the moon."

Zergrinch May 13, 2008 12:51 AM

Apparently, Nick has released the novelization of the Avatar finale in a 64-page children's book.

Two months before the finale will air.

I am giving advance notice that any spoilers will make me very sad, and I will probably be boycotting this thread for fear of spoilers until the episodes air :(

Episode air dates for US and Canada, once again Canada seems to be in the lead

avatar_fans: New Episode Air Date

The new Nick magazine had an Ad Blurb (not even a full page announcement) that new episode start Monday July 14th, and then they are gonna play every weeknight, and the finale is set for July 19th. Note that they didn't advertise it as series finale, but a 2 hour special.

With Canada, people have check YTV's website and it claims that new episodes will come on July 4th (which is one day before my birthday)

Keep in mind, that Canada's new episode should be the Boiling Rock Part 1 and 2, whereas the US hasn't even air The Western Air Temple yet. When it comes to which country will air the show faster, it's coming close to a tie. On one hand, we will probably get Southern Raiders first from Canada, on the other hand, we may get the series finale in the US first since they are all playing in one week.

So, good news for us? We actually have air dates, so the wait its almost over. Bad news? The whole "shove the show's final episodes in one week" is the same BS that Danny Phantom had to go through, and mind you this was also a show that had a older demographic, and Nick decided to drop it cause apparently idiots don't know how to make toys out of a Super Hero cartoon and therefore is not profitable despite a solid fanbase.

It seems to be that Nick again doesn't get the show and does not know how to make toys out of the show either. We got Aang and Sokka figures, but not girls at all (cause Mattel is sexist).

Avatar Toys - The Last Airbender action figures and toys

It has a much wider demographic like Harry Potter, and its not something 5 year olds are gonna understand easily. Despite having ratings that rival football, dedicated fanbase, and having won the Kids Choice Awards against the retarded but popular Spongebob, it seems like there's some moron in Nick that doesn't get the show. At all. Probably never even seen an episode. Cause shoving the final episodes and wrapping it up in one week are rerserved for shows that Nick wants to get over and done with.

While I am happy to finally get news on air dates, Nick's constand mishandling of things has made the finale feel more sore than it already is. No good marketing to speak of, lousy sexist toy manufacturing, has no idea when to place episodes to air, had episodes appearing first on DVD instead of airing it first due to the retarded Jamie Lyn Spears scandal, released a book that spoils the finale 2 months before it will air, and just being plain stupid.

Let us all hope that whatever spin off or future series Mike and Byran wanna make, it will somehow get made. And let's also hope that Shamaylan will do a good job with those live action films.

Anyone watching the finale right now? I seriously don't know how all this is gonna end. I love it.

Synthesis Jul 19, 2008 09:17 PM

Wow, the finale was incredible. I'm assuming all the holes in the epilogue will be filled on the fifth disc when the box set is released in September.

What do you guys think of the finale? Satisfied?

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 19, 2008 09:49 PM

That was a surprisingly satisfying series finale. I was expecting there to be a ton of loose ends afterward with only four episodes to wrap things up, but I think they got to everything of any importance. Besides, even if there had been some shortcomings the battle on the airship fleet would've been more than enough win to make up for them.

The Ember Island Players episode was much better than I expected from what was essentially a clipshow too. Zuko and Sokka's conversation about Jet's death was great.

Metal Sphere Jul 19, 2008 09:58 PM

I thought it was nice and
Spoiler:
the way Aang took care of the Fire Lord was as expected. While it definitely had the satisfying aroma of closure, the fact that Ursa's whereabouts are still unknown and they just sort of left the Azula-BAWWW just hanging. Aside from that it was awesome.

Synthesis Jul 19, 2008 10:25 PM

I agree

Spoiler:
Azula's complete mental breakdown to nearly catatonic levels was just something else to watch.

Both fights gave me an eerie DBZ kind of feeling. (Without the 30 minute power-up)

The shippers are going to have an absolute field day with this one though.

Sakabadger Jul 20, 2008 02:28 AM

That was a pretty good finale.

Spoiler:
Best part was Azula's descent into madness. The way it was done was masterful, and that last scene of her chained up and breathing/sobbing fire everywhere was amazing. What an end.

Kind of a couple of loose holes, though. It seems they hinted very strongly at some kind of sequel/spinoff, but who knows? I hope they wrap everything up in the future. Doesn't seem like a kid's show should have big plot holes.

dusk Jul 20, 2008 02:43 PM

Ahhhh... I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I kept on guessing how Aang was going to take care of the Firelord (or should I say Melon-lord? Loser-lord? Haha...) in the end, but when the moment came, my jaw dropped. Totally loved it.

Gripes: I think Ozai (Zuko's father, right?) should've had a, I dunno, better confinement then a simple cage in the Fire Nation Prison? I was thinking something along the lines of Magneto's prison in the X-Men movie. I KNOW Ozai doesn't have powers or anything to warrant a stronger cell, but I think he should've been put in something like MAXIMUM CONFINEMENT. He had the same-looking cell as Iroh, and I just think that Ozai might start training himself in the cell, and even possibly get his powers back? I dunno. Maybe it'll lead to Ozai's return!

I also thought the ending celebration should've been on a grander scale. Seemed like there should've been more people there representing the nations.

I hope they do some spin-off series. I can see Aang and Katara growing up, marrying, and training a new generation of air-benders to restore balance, perhaps? I can also see a spin-off series showing the nations in the future, attempting to live in harmony, but instead of one nation growing super-powerful and trying to take over the others, there will be a world war between all the nations. Perhaps even secondary bending powers coming to mainstream [metal bending, blood bending (oooo... the best one, I think), lightning/electricity bending?].

AH! Speaking of blood bending, I wish Katara used it more in the end. She used it in her 'revenge episode', which was cool, but I just wish I could've seen more of it, as it was my favorite bending technique.

Also...... I was under the impression that the last episodes they were showing were going to be a MOVIE, as the commercials were saying. I expected the animation to be better than the show for the finale, but it was just four episodes combined. No biggie, though.

Anywho, I just love how there are SO MANY possibilities with this show. I hope they don't end it here. Yeah, I know M. Night Shamyalalanaylanan is making a live-action movie, but I'm talking more canon, not a re-make. Though, I am kinda looking forward to the movie.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 20, 2008 03:06 PM

It wouldn't have made much sense if Katara had used blood bending more than the two times she did. The whole point was it's a terrible art that she didn't want to learn in the first place, hence why her using it without a second thought against the Southern Raiders' leader was significant.

Nick advertised all the multi-part episodes as movies. At least this one was 2 hours long, so it did feel somewhat like a movie.

My only real problem with the finale was how all the secondary characters (Haru, Hokota, etc.) just sort of vanished between Boiling Rock and the epilogue. You'd think they would have tried to meet up again before the comet came.

Zergrinch Jul 20, 2008 06:54 PM

Massive series of deus ex machinas notwithstanding, this has got to be the most epic series sendoff I've ever seen in a western animated cartoon - blows the JLU finale right out of the water.

Come to think of it, the finale was more satisfying than practically every anime finale I've ever seen too.

The music was especially great.

dusk Jul 20, 2008 07:44 PM

I kinda disliked how the other group of kids that were with Aang and the gang at the upside down temple just got tossed aside in a way, like there was no real point to them being around, really. I also didn't like how Katara and Soka's dad disappeared after The Boiling Rock, as well. They made an entire episode about finding him and breaking him out of prison, then he just disappears.

I just rewatched the finale, and also loved the music, especially during the Zuko vs. Azula fight. I loved how the music was louder than the fight itself. Beautiful.

Kairi Li Jul 21, 2008 03:21 AM

Regarding the music, I made a livejournal post on some rips I did, and the composers themselves recently uploaded music from one of the scenes on their myspace too, which I also ripped.

Link here to see more info and download links.

avatar_fans: I ripped three music tracks from Sozin's Comet

The finale is epic.
Spoiler:
The Lion Turtle did feel a bit random, but they did some subtle hints to it's existence in various occasion, The Library episode and the fact Aang rams into a statue of it in every intro. The lack of explaination is probably cause it's some kind of great spirit that no one really knows much about, like some life's mystery. The previous Avatars seem to not know who that creature was either, which probably meant that he only shows up when the world or Avatar really needs him.

The Azula vs Zuko Agni Kai was awesome, and I really wanan see if I can rip the music out when I get the Season 3 boxset. If not, someone on myspace ask the Track Team to upload that music cue.

MySpace.com - The Track Team - Los Angeles, California - www.myspace.com/thetrackteammusicandsound

Zuko's apology scene has one of the most raw emotional acting I have ever heard, especially in an animated show. I hardly cry in TV shows, but I had tears in my eyes in that entire scene. The music helps too, which I did rip it from the Track Team's myspace. Go to the Livejournal link for it.

Azula's descent to madness is also excellant. The way she move her limbs and he expression was SO Light Yagami from Death Note, especially in the last episode of DN. The hair was also creepy, and her scene with Ursa's hallucination was sad and creepy.

The episode had a lot of throwbacks. Zuko attacking Aang felt like the old days, his war meeting flashback was nice and informative, him teaching Aang redirecting lightning is a nice throwback to his less with Iroh, and I love his feelings on his big moment in Invasion Part 2. Exilerating, but terrifying.

The humor was great too, LOVED how Bumi took his city all by himself, and Pakku becoming Katara and Sokka's Grandpa is lil surprising and funny. Oh and that Air vessal crew convo.

"The captain remembered my birthday! He really does care!"

Also, Mike and Byran, the creators, did an interview in the Sozin's Comet book that came out a while back. Here are the scans now that the finale is out. It answers a good number of lingering questions except for Iroh and Ursa.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...interview1.jpg

They also did state they got more they wanna do with the Avatar universe, but said at this point its up to Nick to decide if they let them do it. So I wouldn't be surprised if Ursa and Iroh's backstory is gonna be saved up for a later project.

Shenlon Jul 22, 2008 09:57 AM

I Caught the avatar finale (which you know really isn't the end) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
They tried to play it off as a movie which was obviously four episodes back to back but it was cool that they did that. I don't know what else to say that everybody already mentioned.

Spoiler:
The sister goes crazy=awesome, although I would have liked to have seen some bit of closure between her and her brother since she was craving for some sort of love or companionship.
The guards at the ship were made too stupid for Nickelodeon fashion but whatever gets the job done.
and the fights were as awesome as ever since they used a lot of fluid movements in their styles that require a lot more than a straight punch.
And still I wasn't much interested in the avatar match nor his story since it's pretty much a one way road while Zuko leads him off to all sorts of directions.

I honestly haven't watched the avatar since around the halfway point of season 2 so when i saw the intro I was glad I saw Ang bald. I missed the whole thing with the hair, I even recognized all the characters so it felt like I didn't miss much, (don't know what that says about the story)
Overall i'm glad I caught the end and I'm kinda hoping that it stays the end but it looks a bit unlikely since they hinted that zuko will try to look for his mother and then Ang will find another reason to save someone somewhere and whatever.
If it does continue, the way I see it is that Zuko will become corrupted at some point because it isn't the avatar if there is no Zuko vs Ang

Zergrinch Jul 22, 2008 10:15 AM

No, I must disagree. It does not feel like four episodes played back to back. It felt like a real movie. I wonder how much $$$ it would gross if that were the case :p

really? even after the end of each half hour they played the title number and title of the episode?
Any cartoon can play off episodes for a movie as long as the plot stays in tact. Except for family guy since their episodes are just random clips played like no one gives a shit.

Kairi Li Jul 22, 2008 09:44 PM

The title cards and stuff are needed so when it can be played seperatly during re runs, but from the pacing and writing stand point, I can see the intention was that all 4 episodes was INTENDED to be strung together like a movie.

Plus, the Track Team hired a real string orchestral specifically for these 4 episodes's music, obviously the finale was always planned as a 2 hour plus commecials movie.

I ripped several tracks from the Finale episode and the Track Team's My Space page.

Get them in the LJ posts I made.

Official The Last Airbender Casting call website!

The Last Airbender - How to apply

Any boy can apply as long as they fit the age requirement and have some level of experience in martial arts or gymnastics. Previous acting experience not required.

I hope the audition scripts were written purely for audition's sake. While they seem in tone with the character's personalities, alot of lines are inconsistent to the plot we saw in the series.

As for the other roles, someone from the avatar_fans LJ community has emailed them regarding the other roles. Apparently they will be auditioned live in person and actors/actresses will be auditioned through agencies. I know someone who works in the industry that has also confirmed this.

Only Aang so far is a public audition.

Kairi Li Dec 22, 2008 02:09 PM

In light of the recent topic about Bebop's live action casting, I figure now is a good time to let people here know about Avatar's.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Avatar The Last Airbender: Avatar Casting Makes Fans See... White

There's a letter writing campaign going on from people who feel the movie is white washing, and personally I do feel the same. I was hoping Paramount will show a little diversity in its casting even if one of them has to be white (Aang most likely). Considering some of them are unknowns I don't see why they can't cast some Asian unknowns instead. Theres probably alot of Asian kids who are studying acting who would love to be in a film like this, but will never get to because companies don't think it can sell.

I don't have anything against the actors themselves, by the way, I just want some diversity since this show takes place in an Asian fantasy world where even the written language is Chinese. Having an all white cast is just wrong no matter how I see it.

And since there is so far no official statement from the creators of the show or even the director, I bet that this is all Paramount's decision and they can't say anything about it.

Saving the World with Postage

Shenlon Dec 22, 2008 02:25 PM

Oh man i just love how people are sending letters for this. From kids to parents, seems like there were a lot more avatar geeks than I thought.
I kinda have to agree with the controversy of the casting though, and I'm no big avatar fan. It's just that I'm getting sick of the one caucasian character being in a world where the culture has nothing to do with him and the reason for it is "so that the american audience can resemble to the character" (forbidden kingdom)
As Mooney once said in the chappelle show "I got an Idea for a movie. It's called "The Last Nigger on Earth", Starring Tom hanks"

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2008 02:51 PM

While the casting choices are amusing judging by those pictures, it's hilarious that people are crying racism. The Water and Fire nations were pretty distinct in their races, but Air and Earth could be cast as caucasian just fine. You'd think the casting people would think 2 out of 4 was pretty good. It does kind of defeat the entire purpose of the show since the whole point was that the people were assembled from all over the world, but did anyone actually expect an M. Night Shyamalan movie to be good in the first place?

Kairi Li Dec 22, 2008 03:24 PM

The only reason I had hope that it would be good is cause the creators of the show Mike and Bryan, are on board as writers , meaning Night can't do anything completly retarded. But theres no way they can stop Paramount's current "all white cast for money" mentality.

I don't see how Earth Kingdom folk can look white, especially if you look at the citizens and the Emperor himself. The only person that might look whitish is Toph. And none of the air nomads, except maybe Aang, look white to me. Can you picture for example, Christopher Lee as Monk Gyasto, Aang's deceased teacher?

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2008 07:00 PM

I had no idea who Christopher Lee was until a moment ago, and Count Dooku seems like a pretty random choice. No, I can't picture him being Aang's parental figure, but mostly because I can't stop thinking of him as Count Dooku now. I'm sure he could pull off the role just fine.

It isn't that Air and Earth were white in the show, because they weren't. It couldn't be clearer that their cultures are Buddhist monks and the Chinese respectively, but I'm saying that very few of them aside from the Earth King and other Ba Sing Se dignitaries really looked distinctly asian. For instance, I'm pretty confident that a white guy other than Count Dooku could pull off being the Boulder or any member of Jet's crew.

This was never an asian movie, and so it was a given from the start that at least some of the characters would be cast as whites in order to appeal to the broad audience watching the movie. It's a bit silly that they're all white, especially Zuko, but not totally unexpected either. These people are somehow shocked that Hollywood is doing what it always does: whatever they think will sell more tickets. Changes in race that don't directly screw up storylines (as in Zuko's case) are pretty small considering other changes they'll likely make.

Rotorblade Dec 22, 2008 07:02 PM

Given that anime displays Japan's inherent desire to be white, I guess you can't fault angry asians for wanting to "take it back" or some shit. The dude that plays Goku in Dragon Ball movie probably should have just popped in when Goku goes Super Saiyan, just to be accurate.

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2008 07:08 PM

The kid who plays Goku in the Dragon Ball movie never should've gotten another role again after his dismal performance in The Invisible. Hoooly crap was he terrible, though so was the rest of the entire movie, to his credit.

Rotorblade Dec 22, 2008 07:09 PM

He doesn't qualify to be in something terrible because he was terrible?

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2008 07:12 PM

More that The Invisible was bad enough that it should've permanently halted the careers of everyone involved.

Rotorblade Dec 22, 2008 07:13 PM
