How much time do you spend in front of your computer?

Let's see... I spend around...12 hours or more in front of my pc. Doing browsing, writing, listening music, etc. I spend about 1-3 hours for eating, taking a nap, etc. The irony is, I interact more people in internet than I have in real life.

What's yours?

Dee May 29, 2006 11:39 AM

Geez, that's a lot of time on the computer. It really depends how busy I am. When school starts, I spend maybe an hour max on the computer for email or something, and then any additional time would be for programming crap or doing assignments.

Currently during break, I would spend some more hours organizing what I have downloaded, burning, watching videos, or reading manga. Mostly reading manga takes up a lot of time for me since I'm too cheap to buy the books. :( I would much rather prefer not reading off my monitor.

eriol33 May 29, 2006 11:42 AM

Hmm I happens because I'm a homeboy. Really, I dont have much friends to hang around. Years ago I watched classical concert with my fellow during free times, but now It's not possible anymore since I moved out to another town.:(

Rockgamer May 29, 2006 11:55 AM

Since the break, basically when I'm not asleep or not playing a video game, I'm probably using the computer in some fashion. I would guess that to be somewhere in the 15-hour range. But in my defense, I also do things like browse the internet while watching TV, and watch DVDs on my computer, which raises the total amount of time. In addition, I watch all of my downloaded anime on my computer as well.

Crim May 29, 2006 12:50 PM

I only spend around 3 to 4 hours worth of my time in my computer, just to check some e-mails post some things on forums, browsing the internet etc. this are the only stuff I could benefit on using dial-up internet (it suck, really;/), plus I don't play to much PC games coz I'm really into consoles.

Summonmaster May 29, 2006 12:50 PM

Oh my, it looks I do spend more time than I should. If I have nowhere to go during a day (which happens almost every day), then I'll turn on the computer at 12pm/1pm and then be on it until 1am/2am, not counting lunch/piano breaks.
So 12-13 hours is usually what I appear to have sat around doing something on the computer. There really is nothing else, since I enjoy watching anime or reading posts over watching tv or going out.
Random events like driving school and job searching have gotten me out of the house many times recently though, so it's not every day I vegetate.

Shoops May 29, 2006 12:52 PM

I spend lots of time in front of my computer about more than 12 hours..... Internet, music, playing some games, watching DVD.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE May 29, 2006 01:11 PM

God damn, you people really need to get out more. I spend a few hours maximum on the computer everyday. This consists of downloading music, checking a couple boards, and fiddling around with some games or fantasy teams.

Sir VG May 29, 2006 01:18 PM

Depending on the day, but usually 4-6 hrs. In front of MY computer. Then I go to work and spend 8 hrs in front of that one.

Don't make me angry, I might turn into the Hulk from all this monitor radiation I'm getting.

Rydia May 29, 2006 01:20 PM

When I have class, I spend 1-2 hours total at a computer per day. I mainly check email and the forums, but I also use the time to write any essays for classes. During summer vacation, I typically stay on for an extra hour or so.

Not really, I actually want to hang around with my friends. But just as I said, my friends are few that have same style like me, I'm not typical guy who goes to clubbing in weekend or watching movies. I'm typical of bookworm who enjoy listening to classical music concert or practicing piano when I'm bored. Since I moved to a new place, I dont have my piano anymore, thus my laptop becomes my best friend. I'm not antisocial, but I'm in society where I'm not really belong to.

Nagash May 29, 2006 02:42 PM

Weekdays: 8h (at work) + 1h~2h (at home - after college).

Weekends: 6h~10h (at home - when i'm not with my girlfriend).

Synthesis May 29, 2006 02:53 PM

I don't normally get time to be on the computer until the evening. Since I usually have to work during the day and have college when I don't work.

Max hours daily is around 3 hours. Mostly consists of me downloading music, checking my E-mail, browsing forums, and checking sports scores.

Darkcomet72 May 29, 2006 03:03 PM

It varies wildly. I'm only taking 1 class this summer (Summer semester started a couple weeks ago over here), and it's been a breeze so far, so I'm seeing a surprising 12 hours a day, mabye even more on weekends. I'm enjoying all this free time, come late August, the number might lower dramatically to like 2.

Soluzar May 29, 2006 03:09 PM

No more than six hours, and I don't work in front of a computer. I like the net as much as anyone, but I find any more time than that would lead to some kind of negative effect on my body. Aches and pains. RSI.

Roph May 29, 2006 03:25 PM

I spend around 12 hours, Internet/forums/music/videos/gaming/chat/anime/films ~

guyinrubbersuit May 29, 2006 03:45 PM

Maybe about 10 - 12 hours, which is including the time spent at school. Though most of those hours are contributed to school since I have no other choice but to do school work in front of a computer.

Gechmir May 29, 2006 04:42 PM

I have classes, work (at multiple locations. Jewelery shop plus the farm), the gym/rec center, and other issues on-campus. During the semester, depending on the load, I'll spend very little time at the computer. Last semester was the busiest I'd ever been in all my years. I can't even fathom how in the hell I managed to run The Truth Hurts, now that I think about it. One to two hours on the computer total across a few days. If I was ever on for an extended amount of time, it was researching a subject or typing something up.

Weekends last semester I was damn busy as well.

But ever since I got off around May 9th, I've been glued to my computer, PS2, and Saturn.

I finally got my mod-chip working right in my Saturn and I've been obsessed with Panzer Dragoon Saga (finally playing it <3). Computer I go off and on throughout the day. I play WoW a lot. Made a Horde character about May 12th. I've already docked a day and a half worth of play-time on him.

School is starting tomorrow ;_____________________; Damn summer school. But they're chump courses! I'll end up getting online around 2pm as opposed to 12pm every day. Got an online class to deal with. S'no biggie. But my hours will be nicer after the first five weeks.

How much time? Lots. But everyone spends time on the net nowadays. I DID INTERNET BEFORE IT WAS COOL, OK? =(

Yeah, me too. The Web was dull back then. It had obvious potential, but not the same degree of value or interest to the everyday user. Usenet was where it was at. I both do and don't miss those days.

Cobra Commander May 29, 2006 06:37 PM

Well thanks to Kairyu's clear info I know exactly how long I leave my comp on, my comp stays on for about 10-12 hours a day, although I about half of that is spent while I am not in the room because I rather watch TV or something and let my BT run.

Domino May 29, 2006 07:17 PM

I spend no more than 10 hours a day on my computer. mainly gaming and listening to music. i don't yet have internet capabilities on my PC, so it would probably be a couple hours more if i did.

Mucknuggle May 29, 2006 07:34 PM

Far too much. If I'm home, I'm basically in front of my PC. I may not always be using it, but since I'm almost always in my room, it follows that I'm almost always in front of my PC.

DarkMageOzzie May 29, 2006 07:37 PM

On my work days, I'm on anywhere from 3 to 8 hours depending on when I need to work the next day and whether or not I feel like doing something aside from playing City of Villains. On my days off I could easily use the computer all day unless I wanna watch a DVD or something.

Weapon May 29, 2006 07:39 PM

Too much also but that's because of work....
About 8 to 9 hrs at work and another 3 to 4 at home.
However on weekends if I don't have anything to do probably about 4 to 5 hrs.
It's a miracle I don't have to wear glasses...

Ryuu May 29, 2006 07:46 PM

It depends, as most people have said.

Usually it's around 3-5 hours, though sometimes (and it's been happening a lot recently) I may spend 10+ hours on the computer.

Miles May 29, 2006 11:07 PM

Most of my computer time is after I get home from work. I'll check up on a few things and get work done before I go to bed. I'd say it's between 1-4 hours a day, depending on how much I have to work.

Spatula May 29, 2006 11:09 PM

Easily 4-5 hours per day. That's scary. Think of how much anime I could watch in that time period, or PS1 RPGs I could work on =/

(This is what I call being productive)

Alterminded May 29, 2006 11:13 PM

Depends on what I have to do during the day. Can vary from 4-8 hours and even then, somedays I don't touch it

russ May 29, 2006 11:18 PM

On a typical day at work, I spend 8 hours in front of my computer. Then when I get home from work, I usually turn my laptop on, along with aim, but I am rarely actively using it the whole time. I am usually watching tv or playing a video game and just happen to have my computer turned on.

Unforgiven May 30, 2006 12:50 AM

Huh unless I'm at school (Even then...) or sleeping, I'm 99% of the time in front on my computer. >.>

Anime's fault.

Single Elbow May 30, 2006 01:33 AM

About 3-4 on weekdays, probably 5 on weekends.

But I bombed yesterday on the time though. 14 hours. I swore I'll never do it again.

CLOudkiller May 30, 2006 01:41 AM

Lets see here, since its Summer Break. I'll probably be on maybe 8 or so hours excluding weekends and unexpected visits from friends.

Lizardcommando May 30, 2006 01:58 AM

Alot, unfortunately...

ComCrimson May 30, 2006 05:53 AM

During the week if i have school i'll usualy get on the computer at 3:30 and not get off it until theres either something on telly/i get bored/i go to bed. Usualy about 7ish hours each day during the school week i reckon. At the weekends however or in holidays it can be 12 hours or more. I honestly don't know what i find to do though.

Yume May 30, 2006 06:05 AM

When at home, I can spend almost any length of time in front of my computers, this is also true when using my laptop in bed.

Because I'm doing a computer course at university, I'm usually working on the computers they have until they have to close or if I finish my work (not ever likely).

And if I'm not at either of the places that I said above, you can find me fixing computers and what not when I'm at work. This lasts from 9am in the morning till 4-5pm each weekday.

I'm surprised my eyes haven't turned square yet too after all these years! :D

Arainach May 30, 2006 09:26 AM

Well, let's see. My job is Computer Programming. At College I'm a Comp. Sci major and have massive coding projects quite often. And I enjoy gaming and reading my e-mail as well. I spend quite a considerable time in front of the things.

901is May 30, 2006 03:20 PM

Depends on what i'm going to do on that day. But most of the time I spend is at work :D so it might be 2~3 hrs at night b4 going to bed.

pisscart deluxe May 31, 2006 08:55 AM

I can't believe how many "in excess of 12 hours" replies there are. I did that during the summer in high school but I could never do that today. I usually use the computer for an hour before work and an additional 2-3 at night before bed.

It really depends on whether anyone I want to chat with is on AIM. It only takes me about 20 minutes to read all the things I keep up with...after that if no one is on, I'm gone.

I poked it and it made a sad sound May 31, 2006 09:04 AM

Since I work on a computer almost all day at my job, I spend at least 7 hours on a computer.

And then most nights I go home and chill on the PC. Since there's not been class lately, I'm left with a lot less to do. But the warmer weather gets me outside a hell of a lot more. I'm more prone to go work on the car or do something outdoors than I am to hang out on GFF.

But even then, I stare at this flat panel all day long. Often, I go home with headaches. But the nicotine takes cares of that in most cases.

K_ Takahashi May 31, 2006 09:53 AM

I wonder how long I would stay on a computer if it had internet, since I'm usually at the library for some three hours at times.

When I had a decent setup I was usually on during whatever free time I had (post work/school, ect), though, it was mostly torrent hunting.

I agree. don't you think that's a little weird? don't you eyes hurt after a while? what happened to social person-to-person interaction?

i only spend 2-4 hours/day on my computer. i watch anime and check my usual sites, then i'm done. i don't play any PC games.

eriol33 May 31, 2006 10:20 AM

Well... just like I said, I'm currently not in the community where I usually belong to. I dont really mind such solitary life either.

Atomic Duck May 31, 2006 10:37 AM

Depends on what I've got going on for the day. There are days when I don't touch my comp at all, and other days when I'll spend 20 hours on the damn thing. Ussually those are programming days.

Dark Nation May 31, 2006 10:50 AM

Too much damm time really. I might as well be married to the laptop.

electric_eye May 31, 2006 01:33 PM

Due to my condition, I do my best not to be sat at a computer for too long. Lately I have been playing the PlayStation 2 and my brother would usually use the computer, so about 1-2 hours a day.

Syndrome May 31, 2006 01:55 PM

On weekdays, I spend all my awake free time (=not in school) in front of the computer. That is maybe 6 hours a day. I can do everything here, I talk to my friends, do my homework, listen to music, watch anime/movies/etc, read news, read various facts.

On weekends I usually sit a lot more, but do go out almost every weekend to play golf for 3-5 hours.

elwe May 31, 2006 03:12 PM

It really depends. There are times when I spend weeks off the computer, and there are also days when I spend close to 18 hours on the computer. Over the summer, I typically spend anywhere between 2 to 12 hours on the computer, and on weekdays during the school year, I try not to stay on for more than 4 hours.

I usually don't watch my DVDs on the computer, as I really hate how the image quality drops by a million on our new LCD monitor. If there's a way to fix that, I don't know about it. Either way, I still prefer sitting (er...lying) on a couch when watching movies.

Arkhangelsk Jun 1, 2006 12:55 AM

Since I've gotten back home for the summer, I spend a bit more time in front of the computer than I was in school (I need to stop it, because I'm supposed to be practicing now >_<). So...when I have nothing else to do, it's around 4-5 hours a day. But in school, it's more like 1-2 hours.

You're not the only one who thinks about that prospect =p

Battle_CRY Jun 1, 2006 09:06 PM

I spend an average of about 3-5 hours a days on the computer...mostly comprised of school work (when I'm in school)...watching movies, listening/making music, being on the internet and chattin it up...so yea a large portion of my day is comprised of being on the computer...when i was younger I probably averaged 5-7 hours a day...so it's gotten better!! hehe

Newbie1234 Jun 1, 2006 09:14 PM

I usually spend around 3-4 hours a day on the comp. I use to spend a lot more, but there haven't been any truly addictive PC games for me these days. MMORPGs just don't interest me.

Blanka Jun 2, 2006 11:06 AM

Depends on the day really.. If I have school I could be on for 4 hours, plus my free time browsing. I think the most was close to 12, but if I do that too many times my brain feels like it's going to explode.

werepandamike Jun 2, 2006 10:35 PM

I spend at least 18 hours a week in front of a computer at work (I work at a college campus computer center, there's nothing to do but surf the web and help people occasionally). I have two six and one four hour shift, so it gets old pretty fast. Because of this, I spend practically no time at all on my computer at home.
I used to spend a lot more time in front of the computer before coming to college. Now I don't unless I have to (or have nothing better to do. Guess what? I'm at work!).

Lady Miyomi Jun 3, 2006 09:57 PM

Usually, when I'm not working, sleeping, or eating, I'm on the computer. I'm usually browsing the Internet, playing games, listening to music, reading, and chatting.
