Favorite Fight Sequence Ever: Anime Edition

Been wanting to do this one for a while. Post your favorite fight sequences from any anime. Mark spoilers wherever you feel is appropriate.

I'll say it first before anyone else: the fight between Kenshin and Saito in Rurouni Kenshin ranks high up there. The buildup before the actual battle, the moment of tension as the sun sets outside the dojo, and the first battle where Kenshin has to revert back to his old roots. It's the one Kenshin DVD I own, and the fight never gets old no matter how many times I watch it.

Carry on. I'm in the mood for some good fighting anime, so perhaps some of the posts will inspire me to check out a few series.

Rockgamer May 15, 2006 07:49 PM

I'll go with the obvious Spike and Vicious from Cowboy Bebop, as that fight was fucking awesome.

And SOLDIER, I'm sure you're referring to the Kenshin/Saito fight from the TV series, but I would also say the one from the first OAV was great as well. It was pretty short, but it was still great.

And the last one I can think of at the moment is the Grave/Bunji fight from Gungrave. It's great, given all the history between the two characters, like how Bunji used to look up to Brandon. All the fights between Grave and the Millenion leaders were great, but I found this one to be the best (and it's especially better if you've fought him in the game).

Naruto Episode 133; the one where Sasuke and Naruto duke it out for the entire episode. The speed, fluidity, and hard ass hits landed are outstanding. Makes you wish the entire series had that kind of awesome animation and fight quality. Actually, that was the last good episode of Naruto.

Before that though the triple Hokage fight was also intense. I think that was episode 73 or so.

Other than that there are a lot of choices. Spike vs. Vincent from Cowboy Bebop the movie. Both the one in the sky train and the one on the tower at the end were fantastic.

Also vividly remember the fight scenes from Read or Die the OVA. Unique and fast paced with nice fluid movements and style.

Speaking of style, we can't forget Samurai Champloo. Sara vs. Mugen/Jin and Mugen/Jin vs. the Hand of God. Hell, every fight in that series was asskicking.

Let us not forget Mugen vs. Jin... Yah I know it was like one of the first fights but I still think it was cool. The first time seeing something like the champloo style clashing with traditional swordsmanship just leaves an impression that says this shit is only gona get better!

PiccoloNamek May 16, 2006 05:53 AM

Nothing beats the fight between EVAs 01 and 02 and Israfel. The music is awesome and the fight moves sync'd to the music are even more awesome.

chato May 16, 2006 05:54 AM

You guys already posted the Classic battles >.<!.

We can't forget that interesting battle from Naruto, Rock Lee vs Kimimaro. The Drunken Fist ability was the best thing that came out of the whole story. The fighting was fast , not that exaggerating like the DB Legacy.

I barely remember this one battle but it was from the movie, Black Lion. All I can remember are the names of the samurai Shishimaru and the Cyborg Ginnai Doma. There was a lot of sword fights for a short 60 min OVA. and to think a normal human was able to take out a cyborg in a very early timeline is amazing.

We also have. Spike Spiegel vs Tongpu (that fat bastard who was just badass for his way of fighting and equipment of deadly ass weapons). That episode could've kicked ass as a movie.

Lets not forget our good friend DBZ ^^. There were alot of great battles in the Cell Saga.

Oh hell yes. Mad Pierrot is the coolest fucking dude ever, and it was even cooler how badly he kicked Spike's ass. Although I don't really think he was fat. That was just part of the whole circus getup he was wearing. And the fact that he was carrying hundreds of pound of weapons.

Lukage May 16, 2006 06:09 AM

Hey guys, spoilers please, and note the anime!

Wanna add one from Tenchi Muyo:

Spoiler:
Tenchi and (Cant remember his name...Kagaru comes to mind) -- on the spaceship when he gets three light hawk wings.

EVA:

Spoiler:
Can't forget End of Eva when Asuka FINALLY wakes up before lancey-lancey goes into her EYEBALL

Foshi May 16, 2006 09:06 AM

Lets see here:

Ninja Scroll the movie had some great fights. Nearly every fight Jubei was involved with was golden. One that comes to mind was with that fat huge guy that could chuck his sword like a boomarang. He died good.

Gundam GP03 vs. Neue Zeil from Gundam 0083. Nothing like two mobile armors blowing the shit out of each other.

Brings up a good point about CG and cell animation. This was an incredible battle and it worked excelletly without the use of CG. We need to go back to this style of animation. I hate it when my favorite mecha show is clogged up with horrible looking CG animation. Only good CG animation I have ever seen that was actually believable was Howl's Moving Castle.

No. Hard Pass. May 16, 2006 09:48 AM

D vs the Barabroi in Bloodlust, as well as the bounty hunter family vs the village of zombies in the same movie. Just... sweet.

i thought the same when i read the thread's topic, but i can add the fight in VF in macross plus between isamu and guld

David4516 May 17, 2006 03:46 AM

Hajime No Ippo has a number of AMZAING fights. Anything with Sendo or Date kicks ass. My favorite was never animated though, I had to read it in the manga (Date vs Ricardo). It's one of the few animes I can watch again and again and not get tired of.

I'll agree with the other posters about Asuka in EoE. That was very possibly the most badass mecha fight ever.

Another anime worth mentioning is Elfen Lied. Almost every fight/battle was pure awsome.

Finally, if you're into gunfights (who isn't?), I can recomend Noir. Again, almost every fight was good. The first few episodes were REALLY slow though...

You stole my line. That's the exact fight I was going to mention. I simply love it, it doesn't matter how many times I watch it, it's always great.

Since my favorite was already mentioned I'll mention my 2nd favorite:
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
I belive that now everyboy has already seen that movie but I'll put a spoiler tag just in case.
Spoiler:

The fight between Cloud and Sephiroth, especially when Cloud unleashes his Omnislash on Sephirith

DarkLink2135 May 17, 2006 11:42 AM

For my fav, I'm going to have to say the fight between 'The Man In Black' and Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride.

It's entertaining, long, and funny :).

As far as just sheer awesomeness, definitely the fight at the end of FF7:AC, as Yuna mentioned.

There are several problems with this post. First, it's not very descriptive at all; in a thread like this, to keep it from being overrun with spam posts like this one, more content is needed.

Second, the last time I checked, The Princess Bride wasn't an anime; why you would name it in a thread about your favorite anime fight sequences is beyond me (unless you're stupid).

Third, your short description (see problem 1) can lead to confusion. While you're probably talking about Inigo's fight with Westley early in the movie, the lack of any other detail than naming his opponent as "The Man In Black" (which I don't think anyone was actually called in the movie) could lead one to think you were talking about his fight with Count Rugen at the end. Details like when the fight was and just who was fighting it are important. Please remember to include them. And to actually name anime fights in an anime fight thread.

As for my favorite anime fights, I have a few. A couple of them are running fights that cover more than episode. One is the fight from episodes 12 and 13 in R.O.D the TV wherein
Spoiler:
the Paper Sisters attack Dokusensha, and proceed to clear the building floor by floor to R.O.D's always awesome music. They really spruced it up in the DVD release, which was awesome.

Also, there's the huge fight sequence in epsiodes 1 and 2 of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's.
Spoiler:
The initial part with Nanoha fighting Vita was my favorite; watching Vita fly into a rage after Nanoha shot her hat off, literally hammer Nanoha into submission, and then bring herself under control was beautiful. It was still fun after it grew (bringing in the fan favorite Fate, among others) until it climaxed with Nanoha about to rejoin, only to get the magic literally ripped out of her.

I also have to include another fight from R.O.D the TV, Anita's in the school library in episode 4. I was impressed by the atmosphere there.

Wow, its really nice to know that in a thread full of 50% one-liner posts, mine is the only one qualifying as spam.

Yeah sorry, my bad :). I totally missed the anime part.

Westley is known as the 'Man in Black' at that point in the movie. Count Rugen was known as the 'Six Fingered Man.' I don't think anyone who has watched the movie should have a hard time figuring out what fight scene I was describing, anime or no.

----------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, revised, I'd have to say the Cloud vs Sephiroth at the end was pretty sweet. The Japanese version I like better simply because the voice acting seems to fit the characters better, & the translation I'm using is pretty sweet in terms of dialogue.

Lord Styphon May 17, 2006 03:42 PM

Had you bothered to read, you'd have noted that your post was singled out for reasons beyond its simple spammishness. PiccoloNamek and Yamamanama's Evangelion fights may be short on description, for instance, but they have two qualities your Princess Bride fight lacked: there wasn't doubt as to which fight they were talking about, and they were from anime.

Also, why are you talking back?

Spoiler:
Shades from the great Taku Iwasaki =].
By the way, there was some fights in Dokusensha. Are you talking about the one that had Maggie fight against the big dude who makes sharp objects out of paper?

Also another great fight was in MD Geist. Its a very old anime that was shown back in IFC channel. I barely remember it but it was kinda a mecha-body type fight with Geist vs another dude ...heh, yes the description is bad but I need to see it and some of you should too.

Ryuu May 17, 2006 07:25 PM

Around the middle of Samurai X: Trust:
Spoiler:
Kenshin versus the Assassin in which he makes the sky rain blood. Although it's short, Kenshin kills him in the best possible way - cuts him in half with his own sword, what a way to be owned.

Around the end of Samurai X: Betrayal:
Spoiler:
Kenshin wandering aimlessly in the snow trying to find Tomoe. He fights, and kills two assassins along the way. His short journey ends in a fight against the final assassin in front of the cabin-thing where he ends up killing both Tomoe and the last assassin.

Loved it (although Tomoe dying was pretty sad).

Sorry for just mentioning Samurai X, but a lot of the good ones have already been mentioned.

Summonmaster May 17, 2006 11:58 PM

Many of you beat me to them:

Naruto
---

Ep. 99ish
1)
Spoiler:
Fight between Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru....DAMN! How sick that sequence was, what with the giant summon beasts and overkill techniques, three of the world's strongest ninja duke it out! Then Tsunade uses her regeneration ace....but then Orochimaru says "fuck that! I'll just choke you then" and ooh damn that was good :)

sometime waaay after that
2)
Spoiler:
Kimimaro vs. Gaara was another good one. Gaara eventually covers the entire field making it a desert, but Kimimaro really would have destroyed Gaara anyways....had he not been sick! (literally, since the blade was like a millimetre away from making contact)

Read Or Die OVA
---

nearing the end
3)
Spoiler:
Yomiko vs. the electricity guy - clever how she made it rain paper blades as one of the last moves. Then again the usage of paper makes most of the fights in the OVA awesome.

The Law of Ueki
---

Sano's Awakening
4)
Spoiler:
Okay, every battle with Sano or Ueki's toughest opponents is a highly intriguing and interesting battle, ending in the most unthought of method possible. Altough when Sano gains his level 2 ability of making the steel magnetic, combined with the fact that he's a genius, this made for some really interesting and foreplanned attacks, especially against a six armed gunner.

Lukage May 18, 2006 01:52 AM

Thanks to those using the spoiler tags. Its tough to quickly scroll once I catch a few words from shows I'd rather not have ruined for me, as "epic battles" kinda are big spoilers.

Leknaat May 18, 2006 05:09 AM

FFVII: AC

Since the big one's been mentioned--also my favorite--there's these:

Spoiler:
Tifa v. Loz. My god, that fight was beautiful. Especially Tifa staying up on the wall with the flower petals and leaves falling around her.

Also, Cloud's fight in Ajit. It was very quick--I had to watch it several times to catch everything. My favorite part is Yazoo walking along the tree branch firing his gun like he's taking a stroll.

Samurai Champloo:

Spoiler:
Sara v Jin. The first time I saw it, I was like, "WTF? Why is she doing this?" Which is what made this fight so good. Jin wasn't expecting it. Mugen was, since he found her weapon.

Final Battle of Mugen v Jin. Sheer hilarity. Who would have thought the weapons would have broken? I figured they would have collapsed from their injuries....

Rurouni Kenshin:

Spoiler:
SHISHIO. Do I need to say more? Okay, I will....Kenshin gets knocked out, Saitoh can't do anything, Sano's hand gets crushed, and Aoshi has to stall in order to get Shishio over his time. Kenshin wakes up, does his thing, and defeats Shishio. Shocker? Shishio kills the woman who loves him by going through her to get to Kenshin. No tension in that battle.....

Did I mention I love sword fights?

I can't say how many times I've put my FFVIIAC DVD just to watch this fight. Watching some of it in the trailer was already good but when the movie was released it was great. Everytime I showed this scene to a friend they didn't even dare to blink.

Shenlon May 19, 2006 07:35 AM

GunGrave in the last episode:
Spoiler:
Sure the bunji vs brandon fight was visually impressive but the best had to be the brandon/harry vs millenion. They were fighting against the same organization that they worked so hard for and in between the fighting they were having flashbacks of themselves. It was just so damn intense, I knew they were going to die but the way they did it was so great ;_;

Naruto chuunin exam:
Spoiler:
The three way hokage battle. It showed off the power of what true high ranking ninja's can do and the style of animation made it so much more impressive but in the end of it all nobody truely won.

School rumble 2:
Spoiler:
the episodes where they were deciding on the school festival. The gun fights wer so funny since they were meant to be serious but you know it was fake >_< Harima vs Hanai was made into an intense fight and had a much more different style than the rest. But still, it was all just so funny ^_^

I'd also mention Advent children but all the good ones have already been said. Although I think I enjoyed every single fight in that movie, its hard for me to pick a favorite.

insertnamehere May 19, 2006 07:44 AM

i have to say i enjoyed

monster's runge vs roberto

Spoiler:
it was a simplistic fight not to many fancy moves all within reality, but that's what made it good in my opinion.

chato May 19, 2006 08:17 PM

It wasn't a serious fight but,

School Rumble Season 1

Spoiler:
There were two fights involving one with Hanai vs Kenji and Kenji vs Karasuma. Looked very interesting since he was making his own manga. The powering up is what got me into it i guess ^^;

Outlaw May 19, 2006 11:45 PM

Most of some of my favorites have alredy been said, mostly the Cowboy Bebop ones. I know I'm forgetting some, but it's been a while since I've seen some of the better action anime all the way through so my memory's a little rusty on the subject.

Wolf's Rain:
Kiba vs. Darcia: Final Battle
Reminded me very much of the final Spike vs. Vicious fight, everything that happened 26 on episodes led up to that one moment...

R.O.D OVA:
Every fight scene
From what I remember I liked most if not all of the fights in it. The ones I really remember the most are the Genjyo Sanzo and Nancy vs. Nancy fights.

Hellsing (Manga/OVA(?)):
Most of the best fights happened leading up to the Millennium Vs. Hellsing grand battle. Some of my favorites were:

Wild Geese/Blood-Seras (A.K.A Piperas) vs. Zorin Alucard Vs. Rip
Both really good fights. I'm not that up to date with the manga so I really can't say anything for Millennium vs. Hellsing fight passed volume 7. But those were two of the best. Next to Alucard Vs. Dandy fight...which I really liked alot as well....

I liked that one as well. Actually...I kind of like all the Superior fights as well as that one.

Max POWER May 20, 2006 11:49 AM

I have a few memorable anime fights spinning in my head to say the least, but one stands out right now as my favorite. In One Piece, when

Spoiler:
Luffy fought Crocodile for the third and final time in the collapsing Arabasta catacombs. It almost made you want to scream out "YES! FINISH HIM!" at the end. The battle was of course inevitable, but it was being hyped for like, 50 episodes in the anime, and Crocodile just seemed so invincible....made it all the more enjoyable watching him get pwnd by Gomu Gomu no Storm.

Yume May 20, 2006 04:40 PM

There are quite a few fight scenes that I have enjoyed, the most recently being the Cloud vs Sephiroth fight from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Spoiler:

When Sephiroth appeared and started to do battle with Cloud I could feel shivers up my spine. I was really impressed when Sephiroth cut the ShinRa tower so that both he and Cloud had to fight on the falling wreckage. The omnislash at the end was also a pretty to watch too.

The next great fight I could remember after that was the Eva-02 fight against the mass production evangelions in End of Evangelion.

Spoiler:

After Asuka woke up in the lake in her eva, she decided defended herself from navel forces, land forces and then chose to beat up the mass production evangelions. Each time she fought, each battle ending was different which I thought was cool as not to use the same ending move over and over again.

The fight scene which I thought was good but was cut short was the fight between Vash and Knives in Trigun.

Spoiler:

After finding out Vash's history in the episodes leading up to the fight between him and his brother, I thought that a long fight was follow. But since they are using guns, it was natual that the fight was over in just a couple of minutes. Watching both Angel Arm Guns being fired did make it a bit entertaining, but as usual, Vash using his brains was able to defeat his brother with the help of Wolfwood's Ark Gun.

One scene that I believe many people have commented on, is Kusanagi's battle with the spider tank in Ghost in the Shell.

Spoiler:

While this fight was not entirely grand breaking, to me, its still a very impressive fight scene everytime I watch it. Kusanagi taking on a spider tank that was invisible to begin with, there was no fear in her when combating even a tank.

Dee May 21, 2006 12:46 AM

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this from Kenshin, but

Spoiler:
Soujirou vs. Kenshin. What an excellent fight. As usual, the obligatory flashback sequence was held, but that really made Soujirou all the more frightening.

Also from Last Exile:

Spoiler:
The last fight involving Alex before he died. He is such a bad ass. I was really sad when he did die.

chato May 21, 2006 01:43 PM

We can't also forget that interesting battle that we saw in Kenshin Seisouhen

Spoiler:
yes... we all know it bombed entirely but you can't say the animation, fighting and acting was terrible. Enishi did have a few words that stayed true to the manga. Although i wish they had shown all the crazy shit he has done to Kenshin to put him in a isolated spot like in the manga.(wrapping his reversed bladed sword in chains).

Enishi was able to get back at kenshin with a few punches and take downs.. that was awesome.

Shuriken May 21, 2006 02:27 PM

Yu Yu Hakusho:
Spoiler:
Episode 30,when Hiei unleashes the Dragon of the Darkness Flame (which only happens like three or four times in the entire series). Screw DBZ and its planet-destroying bullshit;the Dragon is the single most devastating and fearsome attack I've witnessed in anime. The entire sequence - the build-up to the fight, the dialogue between Zeru and Hiei, etc. - sends chills down my spine every time I see it. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

Inhert May 21, 2006 05:06 PM

well i didN,t really watch a lot of anime that have fight scene but I did really enjoy the fight in:

wonderful days(sky blue)
Spoiler:
the fight between Shua and Cade, just before woddy got shot, it was pretty good

FFVII:AC
Spoiler:
for me the best is, the fight between Tifa and Loz, it's so awesome, better then the Cloud vs Sephitorth for me^^ and I also alike any fight with Yazoo and Loz, I just love how they work together, they make an awesome team. My favorite scene is in the forest and Loz do a backflip and Yazoo pass below him and take his gun and start to attack cloud with two gun, or when Loz throw his bike at cloud and Yazzo bend to pass below the bike still shooting at cloud XD

Yuna May 28, 2006 05:50 PM

After rewatching the movie and reading Inhert I've been thinking, there isn't one fight in this movie that is at minimum amazing.

Some are more impressive than others but every single one of them makes you awe.

Conan-the-3rd May 30, 2006 05:16 AM

Nadesico 26:
I'm patial to Nadesico's final conflict between Akaski and Akito "YOU SHUT UP! THIS ISN'T ABOUT ANIME ANYMORE!" and such

And whilst they arn't realy fights as such (Espeacily in the case of Stars and S) I always loved the final confrentations between the heros and the enemys in the Sailor Moon series.
However, any given fight in which Sailor Galixia is invovled was awesome.

werepandamike Jun 2, 2006 03:17 AM

The end fight scene from Trigun (the very last episode) was pretty hardcore. The battle between roy Mustang and the Fuhrer was pretty hardcore too.
Actually, just about all the fight scenes in full metal alchemist were awesome.

K_ Takahashi Jun 2, 2006 12:48 PM

From Scryed (or whatever way you spell it)

Spoiler:
Episode 26 was nothing but fighting between Kazuma and Ryuho<sp?> there were some talking points, but it was a fight that was much needed after they got thier advanced badass altars. It's been quite some time since I've seen it but it still ranks in there pretty high

Rei no Otaku Jun 5, 2006 09:51 AM

No Gundam!? I'll have to change that...

Zeta Gundam:

Spoiler:
There were a lot of good battles: Scirocco/Haman, Char/Haman, some of the Jerid/Kamille, even Emma/Reccoa (mostly for one of the coolest lines ever right before it begins:

Emma: Katz is dead!
Reccoa: He is!?
Emma: Don't tell me you didn't feel it? We all cried in our hearts when he died. But you know what Reccoa? I don't think anyone's going to cry for you...).

I'm going to go with the last battle with Kamille against Scirocco. The way Kamille drew on the power of all his dead friends, and then just impaling Scirocco with the Zeta for one of the bloodiest Gundam deaths.

Gundam 0080

Spoiler:
The fight between Chris and Bernie. Especially when you realize that the whole thing was pointless since the nukes had been stopped. Then at the end when they open Bernie's cockpit and the soldier says there's nothing left but hamburger.

0080 was actually one of the more "brutal" of the Gundam series when you think about it. Even the one battle where they attack the facility to destroy the Alex, and Bernies whole team gets wiped out. They show the cockpit section of Mikhail's suit, and there's bullet holes everywhere and it's covered in blood.

Char's Counterattack

Spoiler:
Last battle between Char and Amuro. Greatest rivalry in anime history, finally put to rest. I think it ended perfectly as well. A clear winner, yet at the same time no one won. Even as they died, both men just could not let their grudges go.

G Gundam

Spoiler:
The fight between Domon and Sai Saici. The part I liked best was the fact that Domon was willing to kill Sai. It wasn't a "I will if I have to" or a "I don't want to, but I will", it was a "I'll kill you." They had been friends for so long, yet Domon knew what had to be done and he was more than willing to do it.

As has been mentioned many times, that one scene from End of Evangelion is amazing. I despise Asuka, and even I love that scene.

Berserk

Spoiler:
Almost any fight between Griffiths and Gutts. Though I'll go with the last fight between them, when Gutts finally wins. You just see Griffiths completely fall apart when that happens. He realizes that he can't have everything he wants. Such a great show.

Any fight scene from Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. So beautiful.

Angel of Light Jun 5, 2006 12:36 PM

I would definetely have to say some of my most favourite anime figting sequences are:

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (Dubbed)
Spoiler:
Chun Li Vs. Vega: The will always remain one of my favourite anime fight scenes of all time because I thought it was so well done, and the fact that they had KMFDM's Ultra playing throughout the entirity of the fight made it so intense. I personally thought that when chun li lightning kicked him through her apartment wall closed the fight off really good. Besides Vega has good quotes when he is putting his claw to good use.

"My hobby is to slowly peel the skin off the rabbits I catch especially cute little bunnies like you, and my friend here is rather thirsty for blood! "

Macross Plus
Spoiler:
Isamu Alva Dyson(YF-19) VS. Guld Goa Bowman(YF-21): This remains my favourite mech battles of all time, I'll be honest I haven't see very many mech battles and I'm sure there are definetely some good ones especially in the gundam series, but this one is just beautiful. The battle I'm referring to is in volume 4 of the series, and its just the battle was so fluid and intense with an incredible musical score to go along with it.

To anyone, that has seen the movie version of this 4 part series, you get to see an extended fight scene between Guld Goa Bowman(YF-21) and the Ghost Fighter at an incredible high speed and its one of the fastest mech battles I've ever seen.

Akira
Spoiler:
Tetsuo VS. Kaneda(First Battle After The Destruction Of The Underground Storage Facility): Akira was actually one of the first anime I have ever seen. Even though nothing about the battle was really visually stimulating, just the raw emotion of the two characters was so well done, whether or not it was subtitled or dubbed got you really into the battle.

Ramenbetsu Jun 5, 2006 02:05 PM

As Takahashi said, Episode 26 og s.CRY.ed

Spoiler:
I love Ryuho and Kazuma's fight because it was so intense. It started with them using their lvl 1 altars but it built up to the climax of their lvl 3 altars and then they completely destroyed their altars, so the resorted to just barefits so it became and all our brawl. It was badass.

Dragon Ball Z
[spoiler]Majin Vegeta versus Goku was so badass! Its been years since ive seen the fight but i remember it being awesome.[/b]

All of the fights in AC were also really awesome.

HazelGuy Jun 5, 2006 08:15 PM

Transformers the Movie, everything from Hotrod fishing to Prime uppercutting Megatron at the start.

silentkillah Jun 5, 2006 09:00 PM

Bleach:
Spoiler:
The Fight with Zaraki Kenpachi and when Ichigo finally showed us BANKAI! to Captain Kuchiki. I'm not going to lie, I got fucking chills. And the whole fight was pretty badass

I could name more, but I would just be repeating. I'll edit my post when I remember. All I can remember is the mainstream newage stuff ATM. Woot 1st post.

El Ray Fernando Aug 4, 2006 06:30 AM

The opening fight sequence to Karas was superb they really blended in the CGI nicely which was a big plus. Shame only 3 episodes have been released so far.

SouthJag Aug 7, 2006 01:25 AM

Yay, someone mentioned G Gundam! The Domon/Sai Saici fight in the Gundam Fight Final Battle prelims was amazing.

G Gundam:
Spoiler:
Also, Domon's fight against Allenby. At least until she went berserk, the fight was awesome. Man, I would've loved to actually be there watching it, but alas, anime is not real. :(

Yu Yu Hakusho:
Spoiler:
My God, there are so many. However, in particular the Yusuke/Sensui fight was amazing, from start to finish to restart and finish. Yusuke was going balls to the wall against Sensui and then he unleashed the Sacred Energy. Yusuke sucked it up and died for the second time, only to be reborn as a demon and reunite with his newly powered-up friends. Yusuke, as a demon, had little control over his power and ultimately won because someone else interfered, but still -- an amazing fight.

Also, the Dark Tournament battle against Jin. It was fairly mediocre until he drew out the Spirit Wave. I admit, I got goosebumps when I saw him unleash it. Very cool. Honorable mentions include Hiei vs. Bui (although I didn't care one goddamn bit for those animators in that episode), Kurama vs. Karasu, and definitely Yusuke vs. Toguro minus all the blithering conversation.

Samurai Champloo:
Spoiler:
Yes, episode 15. The fake fight between Mugen and Yatsuha, the undercover hooker he was trying to sleep with. They went at it, and it was a kick in the nuts that finally got her the victory, at least in a relative sense. However, later in that episode Yatsuha and Mugen tagteam Ginsa and his mercenaries, utterly whooping all of their asses. Blood sprayed everywhere and an agry woman's face coming down on him was the last thing Ginsa would ever see.

Not gonna throw in my votes for Kenshin or Advent Children, as I agree with all of them. I will say, however, that the Tifa/Loz fight was amazing.

Golfdish from Hell Aug 7, 2006 02:07 AM

Dragonball Z:

The first Goku vs Vegeta battle. Only lasted maybe 1 episode, but it was pretty intense and well worth the build-up.

All of the Cell Games. The climax of DBZ as a whole. Again, worth the build-up...If it weren't as good as it was, I'd call the previous 70 or so episodes a complete waste.

Yu Yu Hakusho:

In general, I can't think of a fight sequence I didn't enjoy from this one. But the Round 2 battle with Dr. Ichigaki's team, Kurama's fight with Karasu, Yusuke vs Chu and Yusuke's first battle with Hiei in the early goings immediately stand out. Pound for pound, still my favorite series.

Many Ranma 1/2 battles stood out: Ranma's first (and only, I think) fight with Ukyo, his clashes with Ryoga (the one with Ryoga and the Bucks Eye Tenketsu stands out), Cologne (where he needed to get the Phoenix Pill), and the 2 on 1 episode, where he had to fight both Mousse and Ryoga.

And I also enjoyed Fuuko vs Recca in the early goings of Flame of Recca.

Aoie_Emesai Aug 8, 2006 11:25 AM

Spoiler:
The opening of Futakoi Alternative, though it has nothing once so ever with the anime, it's still a great fighting sequence.

Xellos Aug 9, 2006 08:46 AM

Slayers NEXT

Spoiler:
The fight against Phibrizzo. He forces Lina to use her Giga Slave or he'll keep killing his friends. They all try to kill him but they don't even get close to him to try. Lina goes nuts and eventually casts it, he interupts her, it goes wrong, she turns in the Lord of Nightmares, and Phibrizzo's perfect plan goes horribly wrong and he gets owned.

Wow a lot of my favourites have been said already but I'll post them anyway.

Kenshin: It's been said by many people before but episode 30 of Kenshin where he fights Saito is just awesome. It's one of those episodes where so much seems to happen in just 20 minutes and really moves the story alond. I think that episode 40 where he fights Cho was also pretty sweet. Watching the end of that fight always gets me fired up

Dragonballz: There are two fight scenes from this that comes to mind. The first is around episode 170 when Gohan fights cell and releases all his anger and the other is in the Bojack movie. Gohan fighting Bojack is so great and I really enjoy the music, I find myself whisteling the tune often.

Bleach: My favourites from here were when Ichigo would be fighting someone and he seems down and out and then Zangetsu appears to him or there's a flashback to his training with Urahara or he just releases everything he's got. Pretty much just seeing him unleash is very enjoyable. I especially enjoyed Ichigo versus Urahara (lesson three), Renji, Kenpachi and Byakuya around episode 51

I'm sure I could come up with more fights but they are probably my most memorable. With Bleach still going I'll hopefully get a few more to add to my list soon

While this fight was not entirely grand breaking, to me, its still a very impressive fight scene everytime I watch it. Kusanagi taking on a spider tank that was invisible to begin with, there was no fear in her when combating even a tank.

That would be one of my favorites, as well. Fantastic animation, and you really start to get a sense of how badly Major wants to meet the puppet master.

Along that same line, episodes 13, 24, and 25 of GITS SAC have some of my favorite gun battle moments in anime or live action.

And seconding other mentions, the opening of Karas has to be my favorite anime battle sequence of all time. It used to be The Marcus Brothers taking on the town full of vampires, but frankly it's hard to compete with something as excellently choreographed as Karas.

Kraderif Feb 9, 2007 03:10 PM

LOL, its fun how this thread is full of spoilers... by the way, how do you wrap something as spoiler?

Well, I was thinking about Kenshin but everyone has mentioned it, so here are others:

From SAMURAI 7 (the anime series of course) the first fight between Kambei and Kyuzo is just awesome, full of action and speed. And of course the last fight, that begins just after Katsushiro deflects the bullet of the robot... man, those fight really turn you on.

From Basilisk (Kouga Ninpou Chou) on the first episode, between Shogen and Yashamaru is amazing, it really gets you into the story. The animation is of the greatest quality, I don't remember the exact number of frames it took to make the first episode, but once I read it was many times more than the average.

Both series are full of action and great fighting scenes, if you have the chance to see them, don't hesitate.

Amayirot Akago Feb 9, 2007 04:18 PM

I agree with most of the ones posted before; here's a few that haven't been mentioned yet:

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Spoiler:
Jotaro VS Dio at the end of the 1st OVA. Smith VS Neo in the 3rd Matrix flick (one of my favourite battles of all time) has nothing on it. Epic stuff. The timefreezing scenes are amazing, and Dio is the ultimate badass.

Noir
Spoiler:
Chloe vs Kirika & Mireille. Not because the fight was very memorable (only seen it once so far) but because of the intense emotions involved. Chloe had seen Kirika as her precious friend up until that point and her betrayal just sent her over the edge. And the sheer irony that she's killed with her "precious treasure" in the end... a sad end to a great character.

Elfen Lied
Spoiler:
Nana's first confrontation with Lucy. BRUTAL. Bit by bit she's torn to shreds by her merciless opponent. Puts a sadistic smile on my face just thinking about it.

Soldier Feb 12, 2007 05:08 PM

A few people have already mentioned the battle in One Piece against Luffy and Crocodile. I'm here to reiterate their claims. I caught the battle myself a couple of weeks ago, and promptly rewatched it several times.

I always enjoy the fights where the hero is the underdog, and manages to overcome an opponent that he should have no chance whatsoever of defeating. Such is the case here. This one clip doesn't do the fight real justice, since you have to watch the entire arc to appreciate the emotions and tension that this fight represents, in which hundreds of thousands of lives rest in the outcome of this fight, but newbies should find it to be an enjoyable clip nontheless.

Spoiler:

The bar has been significantly raised here. If Luffy has a better fight later on, I'll be quite impressed.

By the way, if anyone has an mp3 of the classical piece played, please share it, thanks.

somedude2387 Feb 12, 2007 06:48 PM

The music in that scene is from Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Enjoy

I agree with the final showdown between Dio and JoJo. EPIC sums it up perfectly and you could see the writer put a lot of thought into it with all the characters actually thinking their moves through instead of random DBZ flurry of punches and junk.

It's not much of an actual fight but in EP 4 of DIEBUSTER:
Spoiler:
When Nono arrives as Buster Machine 7, DieBuster and starts using space probes as weapons and using the buster beam to slice a whole freaking moon/miniplanet, it was just breath taking.

EP 5 of Gunbuster
Spoiler:
When the Gunbuster takes on a whole freaking armada millions strong of space monsters breaking out all of it's moves. Truly one of the most beautiful mech scenes in classic anime.

darkgod5 Feb 22, 2007 10:04 PM

Wow. Let's see if I can pick out any fights from animes which haven't been mentioned yet here but should definitely be..

Mech Battles:

Gun X Sword:
Spoiler:
When Dann fights a rematch against the rapier wielding mech in episode 16.
The build up to that fight was great as well as the overall animation and even the music was pretty fitting. Come to think of it, that anime was full of awesome mech battles. True, some were too short but the animation was always awesome and the music nicely complimented it.

Power Battles:

X TV:
All fights in this series were awesome but of course the fight of
Spoiler:
Kamui vs Fuuma
was epic as long as your not sick of the repetitive music by that time.

Noein - Mou Hitori no Kimi e:
The fight between
Spoiler:
Karas and his friend who then ends up dying by the face.
It has a unique animation style very fitting for fighting sequences.

I find it strange that I can only remember one epic mech battle ..aside from the ones already mentioned. Thanks to those who mentioned Macross Plus though, I've been planning on watching thpse OVAs for a while now. The Macross movie kind of turned me off.. but now I've got a good reason to watch it.

yuna00 Feb 22, 2007 10:45 PM

the fight between Kenshin and that guy who claimed himself to be the Son of God was awesome. the anime turned widescreen just for the fight! :D

also i like all the fights from Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou. they're fricken cool!! :D

Taco Feb 22, 2007 11:26 PM

Noein

Spoiler:
Episode 12, the fight between Fukurou and Karasu. The animation was amazing, on par with that of a movie's quality. The entire episode was done incredibly well, but the fight sequence itself was awesome. Huge explosions, lots of fast arm-sword fighting, and one of the strangest conclusions to a fight.

I also loved the sketchy-style used in some of the fight scene when Fukurou and Karasu were flying around the port. It only added to the feeling of just how fast the fight was moving

Edit: Oh, just saw this was already mentioned. Seconding it anyway, it was an amazing sequence.

Eusine2 Feb 23, 2007 12:15 AM

T_T Someone already mentioned the One Piece fight I was thinking about... Well, it was amazing xD However...

Spoiler:
Though I found it way more satisfactory than the final fights in the next story arcs (Enel and Foxy) I believe that this battle will be dethroned soon, when the last battle of the CP9 arc is animated (In the manga it was way beyond amazing)

Another fight I loved was from Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Yeah, not the anime most of you would expect to see here)

Spoiler:
The Utena vs Arisugawa Juri fight in which Juri says that she doesn't believe in miracles, and that Utena should show her one if she believes in them. The way Utena's sword drops from the sky (After Juri's knocks it off her hands) tearing Juri's rose in half just as Utena's rose is about to be cut was simply amazing.

Gankutsuou

Spoiler:
The mecha's duels are pretty good o_o Just when I though the series couldn't get any better, then the mecha duel between the Count and Frank happened xD Having another mecha battle scene near the end of the series was a really nice touch too.

And last but not least, probably every single battle scene in Eureka Seven. Mechas surfing in the sky AND fighting at the same time? That show is too amazing for it's own good @_@;;;
