What was your first CD/album?
I was just rummaging through my old music and I came across a relic:
Kris Kross - Totally Krossed Out http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg That was the first CD I ever owned. I couldn't believe how rebellious they were, with their backwards shirts AND PANTS. Truly, they were legends of their time. What was the first CD/album you ever owned? |
My first MaxiCD

Still one of my all-time favourites to this day. |
One of the first tapes that I ever purchased was Big Shiny Tunes 4. This was around Grade 6 or 7 when I really started to care for music at all. Actually wasn't until around high school that I started to regularly listen to anything at all.
Ah... good old tape. http://mattgood.imgarbage.com/images...hinytunes4.jpg |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Spiderwebs changed my life. I bought some albums on tape and stuff before that but I bought them just to have them, like I used to buy movie soundtracks just because I had heard of the movie. But Spiderwebs was the first song I ever heard that I really liked personally, and Tragic Kingdom was the first album I bought for myself and not to show off. |

The first tape I owned was Baltimora - Living In The Background. I bought it when I was still living in Mexico and back then it rocked my world! Now it doesn't seem so hot as it was back then. This is one of those albums that's only great if you listen to it by yourself because your friend will immediately have fuel to ridicule you if they catch you. I lost the tape long ago and it's hard as hell to find on CD. |
Final Fantasy IX OST - Impressive stella deus medieval style VGM. It has some of the best battle themes in the series as well.
|

Presidents of the United States of America self titled album. I think I still have it around here some where but It might just be the cd and not the case. |
My first albums were on cassette tape. I owned a Beach Boys tape, Led Zepplin II, and Genesis' Invisible Touch, featuring a favorite of mine at the time, Land of Confusion. I have no doubt that I loved that song so much because the video was rad.

I don't remember much else from back then. I clearly remember Kris Kross because I said to myself that day - "I will always remember this as my first CD." The only other music I remember getting around that time was Snow - Informer on cassette. http://www.3-x.nl/images/front/21163.jpg Everythng from then up until the early days of Korn is a blur to me. |
|
The first ablum i ever got was given to me as a gift. It was Big Shiney Tunes 2, for my birthday in grade 6, or maybe grade 5, i can't remember. It was that CD that got me into caring about music.
The first album i ever bought myself was Human Clay by Creed. Yeah, i went through a big Creed thing when i was a kid, and i don't mind them even now. |

Is being young and naive a good enough excuse for owning Informer? |
Hell yeah it is. How else do you explain me owning Baltimora.
BALTIMORA, MAN! |
Psssh. You just had informer, I had 12" of Snow.
My first record: http://eil.com/newgallery/Black-Sabb...l-4-309224.jpg I don't think I've taken it out of the changer yet. |

my first was http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg I really can't stand Green Day. |
First CD I've bought was "The Black Mages". Still love it.
|
|
I believe either foreigners greatest hits or a tape of the Green Day album Insomnia was my first. Hard to remember back that far really but it was clearly before I had developed anything resembling taste.
|
Luna Sea's - Eden. I got it the day it was released in 93. I blame it on my older cousin being a visual kei whore and i not knowing any better.

The very first legit CD I've ever owned was Daft Punk: Discovery. Since then, I've doubled my collection to 2 legit CDs that I owned (the other one being the 24 Soundtrack).
I've never been big on buying music. I always make bootleg CDs, and before that I just used to borrow them from friends all the time. |
First CD I ever bought was R.E.M.'s Out of Time. Still holds up today, although New Adventures in Hi Fi, Reveal, and others have eclipsed it.
|
Mine was Oasis - Definitely Maybe
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg It still today is the best album I own. |

My first album was bought for me. It was Queen: Platinum Collection. This 3 CD collection consists of Queen's three greatest hits CDs.
Still listen to it occasionally. |
http://cottageviews.com/album%20cove...the%20Moon.jpg
First Album I up and bought was Dark Side of the Moon. |
My first album was on cassette. I'm not THAT young. ;)
It was... http://aperifle.sinosplice.com/Pink_...mals-front.jpg I was 9 years old. Needless to say, I liked the music enough but it was way over my head... o_O Strangely, I've only upgraded it to CD a few months ago. First CD was: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...albumcover.jpg For my tenth birthday. I still have it! Quote:

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/2...voltage1tv.jpg
My first CD was ACDC High Voltage, I got it in grade 7 (5-6 years ago) I still listen to it now, although I have expanded my musical tastes and library since then. joshi: I agree Greenday sucks |
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/L.../FullMetal.gif WWF Full Metal Nothing comes close to how great this album is, still obviously the best thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Nothing will ever beat it. |
I can't remember my first CD, but this one might be it:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg I still enjoy it today, 11 years later. |
The first Cd I was ever given was the Mortal Kombat soundtrack..
The first tape I ever bought for myself was the Ninja Turtles movie soundtrack.. And the first cd I bought for myself was Iron Maiden's "No Prayer For The Dieing" |
I had alot of tapes....mostly of kiddy things....like the loony toons sing Beatles songs! But I grew out of all those...so I started stealing my mom and dad's CDs to listion too. They didn't like it and took (most of ;)) them back. But I would have to say my first album was:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7205/cd4kp.jpg or http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8084/cd22qv.jpg I forget....both bought by my parents because they knew I liked the Californacation and Wonderful videos. |
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1...zzzzzzz0xx.jpg
U2-Achtung Baby. It's still one of the best albums that I own, too. and it almost makes up for All That You Can't Leave Behind! |
I was given "2 B A Master" for christmas when I was 11, I think. Maybe 12.
CLASSIC! http://pokewatch.nick15.com/pirn/alb...bamasterlg.jpg The first album I bought was Eric Clapton: Unplugged in 1999. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._Unplugged.jpg |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Madonna's Immaculate Collection. (1990) Like A Prayer was the first song I ever really dug and had to have the album. I had, like, no money of my own, so I had to work for the album with house chores and saved up my allowance. (I think I made like $3 a week) I was 8 years old. I am still a Madonna fan. Shut the fuck up. I had heard Dark Side of the Moon for years and years prior to it. I was, like, brainwashed. I was fucking TERRIFIED of that album. |
The first album I ever got was a Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego CD. I totally loved every second of this CD, and even went out of my way to record it on the Talkboy that I got that same year.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...B0006HWFY6.jpg Ohhh nostalgia. |
First time I ever spent money on music...
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg I know you've all seen it before (Rob Dougan - Furious Angels). But it's not even that old :( It was simply the first time I really liked an album. Since then, it's gotten pretty tired, but I still listen to it every once in a while. |
My first album was:
Jewel Kilcher's "Pieces of You" whixh was quickly followed up by Spirit. It was either that or a Naxos 2 CD set of classical music that had stuff like Rameau's Les Tricoteuses on the first cd, and Chopin's Minute Watlz on the other cd. |
First CD I owned was probably the Mission: Impossible 2 soundtrack. Pretty embarassing. First album I bought and loved was Sirius B/Lemuria by Therion.
Morrigan: I own a first-print Animals vinyl. :) |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Rugrats still own basically everything else on Nick. |

How come everyone has all these fucking awesome first purchases and all I have some 80's new wave one-hit wonder? :(
|

I was so ridiclously proud, I recalled running around my uncle's house showing everyone and then putting it in his stereo system and pumping SPICE UP YOUR LIFE through the loud speakers. I went through a buying CD phase starting then and had upwards of 300 albums, with such jems like Smashmouth, LFO and Backstreet Boys. My world of music sucked back then. |
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the first album I owned was Soundgarden's "Down on the Upside". I liked it quite a bit too -- I liked to blast "Ty Cobb" during my aimlessly rebellious stage.
First album I bought with my own money was Limp Bizkit's "Chocolate Starfish". I'm still trying to distance myself from that. Hahaha, my musical taste was pretty bad a few years ago. Not that it's any good now, though... |

I've owned an album on a cassette as well, but I don't recall what it was anymore, but it was a group from the early 90s. |
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
My first CD purchase was around 1993 or so; my first cassette tape was the same exact album, back in 1989. Thus began my love for John Williams, which lasted until I discovered a new love for Beethoven and Mozart. OK, I'll admit it. When I was still listening to cassettes, I had a bunch of Michael Jackson albums. *shivers* |
The first one I owned - my brother was the one who pretty much bought all the cds and such - was Disturbed's Believe.
A lot of good songs on that CD - "Prayer" and "Remember" are definitely up there. |
My first album was Scatman John - Scatman's world. Bought it in 1995. He may R.I.P. ...

I found it for cheap at MacFrugals/Big Lots and was ecstatic. It's soooo 90s :D. I still listen to it... on occasion. There's some good stuff on there. |
That's actually a really good album.

*Awaiting killing* Come on, I was 6! My first CD I really liked: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/laurent.bonf...6metallica.jpg |
Couldn't tell you the first CD album bought as I really do not remember. However, I do know that the first album bought was Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits (on cassette).
|
First CD - Michelle Branch's The Spirit Room
It was the only CD I had in my car when I first started driving, and the only CD I had for like 2-3 months. You can bet I knew the lyrics to the whole damn CD by heart. Still love it to this day. |
First Album:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Except mine had the cool black-on-black pentagram logo instead of the band photos. First Cassette: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Mom threw an absolute fit at the baby smoking picture. :) [b]First CD(s)[b] http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Yeah, I'm old. |
The 1st CD I bought myself ... I believe that was the OST for The Lion King. The song "Be Prepared" left a scar, so to speak.
|
Your not that old, Gratch. Thick as a Brick was the second CD I ever had.

I think it was Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP. I was like in 8th Grade at the time.
|
I got my first walkman at like... 9 or 10 years old.
http://static.last.fm/coverart/300x300/1428838.jpg first tape I got. The Downward Spiral also. NOW LOOK AT ME!! |
my first album was Eminem - Marshall Mathers
i was so in Eminem when i was a kid and now i just laugh about what i used to listen to. |
My first album was Strauss greatest hits from Sony Music. After that I became classical freak
|
http://ec3.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Oasis - Be Here Now Critics hated it. I love it. I would have been about 12 at the time and i can remember taking ages in the CD shop deciding whether or not to spend the 30 (30!!) bucks or not. Turned out to be a good decision. |
http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/7479/hootie7aa.jpg
Yeah, I know. At least I didn't pay for it though. It was a hand-me-down from my brother. |
http://mp3how.com/photos/swollen-mem...the-closet.jpg
Canadian 4 life, yo! I thought the tracks were pretty catchy, even though I'm not a huge rap fan. |
Sadly, the first I remember owning was a dance mix that I bought in the bargain bin at wal-mart. It had lotsa stuff, but most notably "Cotton Eyed Joe" was on it (though I always prefferred "Short Dick Man" which went something like "Teeny weeny itty bitty short dick man c'mon"). I believe I was six when I came into that jewel.
That was my first unless you count the tapes my mom gave me when I was two that I didn't really buy, like of Cat Stevens and other singer songwriters. |
