Dead Rising
So, amid all this E3-osity, the game I want the most for the 360 remains Dead Rising, which is scheduled for release in August (Fuck, I thought it was being released in June until today.), so I must ask: Is this anybody else's dream game? Honestly, it sounds like Dawn of the Dead: The Game, with extra awesome!
I mean, hundreds of zombies in a mall, and you can use damn-near anything to kick the crap out of them. It's a game idea I've been hoping for for YEARS. In fact, I was planning to pick up a 360 this month in anticipation of the game. I still might, but this game seems much, much, much better than any other game on the system (Except for Oblivion, but I have that for PC). Anybody else interested in smashing zombie heads? |
I saw a preview for this a looooooong time ago in GameInformer, and I was instantly interested. Once I saw the trailer on xbox live, I grabbed it, watched it, and have been eagerly awaiting this game. I'm assuming that anything within the mall can be used at your disposal. The trailer cracked my ass up when he was placing masks on the zombies and they were stumbling around helplessly.
Anyway, yeah, eagerly anticipating this game. Hopefully it will spend as much time in my 360 as Oblivion has! |
I like how you can you can use a Fender bass as a weapon. :D
I'm looking forward to it too. |
I saw this on the 360 Demo disc. You can use a stuffef bear as a weapon. You can also nick food from stands for health.
|
I saw the trailer for this game a while back and I just loved the fact that you could mow over zombie with the lawn mower.
Like someone said, it's like Dawn of the Dead Meet Shaun of the Dead, the game. Very awesome idea for a game. |
Newest news from the latest Famitsu gamazine!
A new character was revealed and it seems he either plays a large role in the game or he is in fact another playable character. Also, a cult seems to be based around the origins of the zombie outbreak. And finally, a special tactical unit will be deployed in the Mall sometimes during the game to stop the zombie epidemic and they will kill anything or anyone that'll stand in their way. Enjoy! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...st/deadri3.jpg |
He looks like one of those annoying characters that You would want them to die..
|
I just hope it doesnt turn into a zombie version of dynasty warriors.
|
From what I read on PLay magazine, the game is sort of like State Of Emergency in the sense that you can just rip right thru it and be saved or you can stay around, save random people, take random pictures for points and take out zombies in style...
|
Comparing anything to State of Emergency is a very very bad thing, Furby.
I hope to high heaven this doesn't turn out like that or like Dynasty Warriors. I'd be extremely disappointed. |
It looks fun enough, what with the myriad of weapons to choose from. It seems like you can use everything in the environment as a weapon. I even saw him throw fruit and boxes of cereal at the zombies.
I wonder what other kinds of little Capcom easter eggs will be in there, aside from the giant Servbot heads. It'd be awesome if you could get cool weapons like Dante's Alastor/Rebellion/Sparda, the Infinite Launcher from Resident Evil, Megaman's Buster, or even Ryu's Hadoken. I can't wait! |
The fact that you can use MegaMan's Mega Buster and Servbot/Kobun heads sells the game for me
I see it as Capcom's apology for releasing Final Fight Streetwise. In essence, this game can be seen as a beat-em-up of sorts. Though I know people are still bitching about the supposed short length of the game. The fact that you have literally thousands of zombies in your way, and you can beat the crap out of them will provide me with endless entertainment. And even moreso should the rumored online co-op become a reality. |
Was it actually announced somewhere that the Mega Buster is a weapon? Because that was only speculation in my post. :/
|
WolfDemon, you can see the Mega Buster in the trailer that was released on Xbox live Marketplace (I'm fairly certain that it's the trailer that was released before E3, not the E3 trailer).
You see it being used on a crowd of zombies for about a split-second, but it's surely there (most likely as some kind of unlockable though). |
Okay, so this is basically turning out to be the greatest game I've seen in a very long time. Gamespot updated with some new info and screens today, I had no idea you could wander about a whole heap of area outside. I was under the impression that you were just stuck in the mall for the whole game. GUESS NOT.
http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/ima..._screen024.jpg http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/ima..._screen042.jpg <3 http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/ima..._screen043.jpg A whole heap more screens Text and stuff |
This game is gonna be sex, guys! SEX!!
|
Indeed. Kobun sex, which makes it all the more pleasurable.
Infernal, the more recent trailers (and the E3 trailer) did show various scenes out the reporter outside the mall (in courtyards, and the parking lot) kicking some zombie ass. It's been known for a while that you can venture outside the mall; though we don't exactly know the extent of how far outside the mall's limits we can explore. I'm loving the motion blur and depth-of-field effects that are used in the game; subtle, but they add that extra level of realism. Praying that Capcom will shell out a demo soon. But then again, if they're taking eons porting Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting over, then Dead Rising might be out of the question :edgartpg: |
I love how it keeps a little counter of how many zombies you kill. High score speed runs comin liek wut.
|
Comes out in a week guys, so get your pre-orders ready.
Words cannot describe the hotness that Dead Rising looks to be! |
The new EXTENDED TV SPOT just showcased a move I haven't seen before!! You can punch a Zombie in the stomach and literally rip out its guts!!!! O_O
In other news, I'll be able to play the full Retail version tonight. ;-P |
Dude you have got to get back to us and let us know how the full version turned out. I know that Gamespot was bitching about constant loading of areas and cinematics but, it's Gamespot who bitches about everything and it's not the final retail build.
P.S. At the end of the extended trailer it sais that a demo is coming to the marketplace, has anyone heard when this'll be? |
GODAMMIT!!!
Grrr....all is fucked! I have a 10% of playing it, only it's this Thursday. Argh. It's coming out next week, so it's not too bad, but just thinking about the fact that I might've been playing it RIGHT NOW is just too.....ARGHHH! Anyhoo, yeah, a demo's coming but no word on a date. |
According to Joystiq, a demo for Dead Rising should be hitting the marketplace within the next 24 hours. The reason why no one knows exactly is probably because it has to go through the live testing before coming to marketplace, which is an infamously long process (not that it needs to be).
|
Fuck yeah!
I hope it gets posted before the game hits the stores, because anytime after that defeats the purpose for me. |
Yeah, same here. I see the purpose for the majority of people who don't buy every game right when it comes out, but I wouldn't qualify for that group. And really I have a painstaken craving to play this game RIGHT NOW!!!
*This post has not been spell checked* |
Curious...anyone see the Webisodes that have hit the web and Marketplace as of late?
They're all comprised of cutscenes from the game, and it's looking real good right now. Hard to say, but it's looking even sharper than it did at E3 this year! The use of motion blur and depth of field just add to the graphical flair of the game. Hopefully that demo does arrive soon, cuz I'm in the same boat as you guys. No reason for a demo to be released after it hits shelves, as it defeats the purpose of giving exposure to the game so that consumers will buy it when it hits the store shelves. Even though the Marketplace Crew has said that nothing is released on Fridays, it has seen some exceptions as of late (Ninety Nine Nights for example). So let's hope that we get lucky this Friday. |
True, true.
The unfortunate part is that MS does have a history of releasing demoes after the game comes out. But Capcom probably submitted the demo to MS when they announced the demo in that one Webisode, so it probably just depends as to how long it takes MS to test the living c$@# out of it before it hits the marketplace. |
Yep.
I'm sure they're extensively testing it, just as they did with the King Kong demo, which, come to think of it, mysteriously vanished from the Marketplace after a couple of days. I wonder why that happened... In all seriousness though, I hope Microsoft doesn't screw this one up, because unlike King Kong, this game isn't just a free giveaway for Achievement points. |
lol... yeah.....
Oh yeah!!! I almost forgot (not really)... The Dead Rising demo is now on the marketplace ^^ |
I just put the game on reserve yesterday, and I'm getting a nifty shirt for it. :)
Can't wait for next week. And now I'm off to download that demo. |
This game owns. I was kicked off the demo three times so far when it came to be 7pm, I went to the movie theatre and I went into some warehouse.
|
I'm eagerly awaiting this game as well.

Undoubtedly the best demo to hit the Marketplace. Bar none.
The demo gives you 15 minutes of free-roaming goodness around a portion of the mall, allowing you to kill the infinite number of zombies to your heart's content. Is there really more that you could ask for? Just don't go to the Warehouse, outside the mall, to the Movie Theater, or the Entrance Plaza, or you will trigger a cutscene which ends the demo. Nice cutscenes and all, but you just really want to kill, kill, and kill some more zombies. Anyone find the SMG and Katana yet? The katana is just fucking sweet guys. One swipe and the zombies are cut in half. If you want to recreate Kill Bill's Crazy 88's fight, then this is the way to do it.
Also, for you pervs, take a picture of the female zombies with lingerie on, and see what happens. I can't fucking wait for the 8th to arrive. There is no way this game can do any wrong. |
Put THE GONG from 1976's Dawn of the Dead or the Benny Hill theme while playing. It multiplies the fun by a thousand.

Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart. You try to scream, but terror takes the sound before you make it. You start to freeze, as horror looks you right between the eyes, you're paralyzed... 'Cause this is thriller! |
Dead Rising look like a good horror type of game with humor in it. I didn't like the demo they released on the marketplace. As soon as you enter a certain section or go out of a section a damn cutscene has to play and the demo ends. They shoulda made it where you can play and finish at least half of a mission or something.
|
I would really have liked some sort of multiplayer component.
The demo was enjoyable, but as it stands now, it looks like it'll get repetitive after a couple of hours. Hopefully the retail game has as much variety as it boasts. |
There's SO MUCH stuff you can do in the demo, variety isn't a problem. I can't wait for the final retail version this week.
|
I do find that there is a limit on what you can do but it is a demo, and it's an earlier build. Heck I imagine that in the same area of the retail build will probably have twice the amount of stuff to use and wear. I'm not worried about the final version at all.
While I do agree that the demo might not really show the full potential of the game, for people like me who know what will be in the final build, this demo is really just to hold me over till the 8th. |
Quote:
Quote:
Either way, it is a demo, and as such is just a taste of what to expect from the full retail game...there'd be no reason to buy the game if this demo had allowed us to play for an infinite amount of time. By the way, another little secret in case you didn't know:
Of course, you can then jump into the sea of zombies and slaughter them without the fear of being injured! Enjoy :edgarrock: |
PIE + JUICE = Untouchable
CONDIMENTS (Found in 'Jill's Sandwiches') + CONDIMENTS = Spit Fire UNTOUCHABLE + SPIT FIRE = ZOMBAIT Zombait attracts zombies. ;-P |
I enjoyed the demo, and it reminded me of the old game Fighting Force (dont ask), but I didnt like how there was one move for each weapon. I would of liked some kind of combo system (nothing extravagant but atleast a different move per joystick direction).
The controls were slick, but felt a tad sluggish. Other then these complaints it was just plain fun. Of course its just a demo, so Ill have to wait and see the final build in action. |
I know that the sledgehammer and scythe have an extra attack if you hold X.
|
That's correct Newbie1234.
But really, if Capcom created 5 moves for each weapon it would have just been a ridiculous amount of work. Especially in the final version where there will be so many "weapons" that the variety of things that you'll be using will be so tremendous that you wouldn't probably be using anything all that long to want more moves. But when you talk about the demo, due to the "shortage" of items I can see your point. |
Does anyone else find the giant Servbot in the toy store to be somewhat suspicious? I don't know why, but I get the feeling there's more to it than the top of it's head spinning when you hit it. Maybe in the final build that's where you find the Mega Buster?
|
Quote:
|
Well, there is some use for it in the demo. You have to hit the giant Servbot enough so that the dizzy eyes match up with the sad mouth, and then you take a picture of it, giving you a large amount of PP. It's a little easier if you just hit the Servbot head with the water gun, as it gives you more precision in lining up the facial expressions than with the sledgehammer or scythe.
While not having any use in the demo, PP is what levels Frank up (as far as learning new moves, having more stamina, etc.). Some other free PP spots are taking pictures of the cardboard woman in the Music Store (to the left of the Servbot store), and taking a snapshot of the Ratman poster in front of the Movie Theater. So now you have some locations to go to get some free experience points when the game comes out tomorrow. Lord, I can't wait. |

I guess my complaint is more in relation to the fact that it seems your always killing one zombie at a time. I would prefer more mass carnage. I think it might have to do with me playing the 99 Knights demo to death. I think im trying to get the games to be the same pace when there two totally different things. I believe this game will grow on me the more I play it. I really do enjoy the novelty of it though. Its almost retro in the way it plays. |
My boss gave me today and tomorrow off to make up on the weekend, so I got myself all hyped to play all day today and tomorrow, but I went to EB and they were like "lol it's here tomorrow n00b." And after they kept telling me "It'll be here the 8th! Promise!"

This is very true. New IPs are always big risks. Especially when doing ine on a console that's not even a year old yet. But the good news is if they pull them off, expect to see them around for a while.
|
Quote:
And today, I got a phone call telling me that they'll have the game tomorrow afternoon. What kind of shit is that? Call me when you HAVE THE FUCKING GAME, not before. Apparently, it's only a "medium-interest" game for EB, so they don't bother getting it on day one. Fuckers. Why the fuck should I pre-order from them in the future? |
Quote:
At least you got a call though. I got nothing. Yeah, never pre-booking from there again. Also: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20060807.jpg http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20060809.jpg |
Hey, has anyone gotten the game yet? I've had it since 4PM and Xbox has yet to be turned off..
Observations: - If you fail a single piece of the main storyline, then the entire remainder of story cannot be completed. Clearly if you want to get the best ending, you'll have to be focused on finishing key events. However, if you do fail something, the game gives you the option of reloading or simply running amok in the mall where you can still gain experience and finish side quests. - Rescuing survivors will provide a huge reward in PP, but it can be quite difficult. As you escort people, you'll notice the zombies coming at you much more fierce since there's more food running by them. I was escorting two people when I noticed one of 'em started to lag behind. I turn around I and witness my escortee being dogpiled by zombies. When I try to save her, my other survivor gets attacked. Before I know it there were literally a 100 zombies all over us, chomping down. A long story short, both survivors ended up being turned undead and I barely escaped with a single box of my health. Good times! :D |
Yeah, I love the 'rush' this game provides. 'Here's a mall with zombies, survivors and psychopaths! You've got 72 hours to make the best of it! Good Luck!"
I love rescuing people, even if the AI is kinda dumb sometimes. It's pretty satisfying! Also, try to get abducted by the Cultists. Pretty hilarious! |
It's a little frustrating that there's no continue option when you die. But I guess that'd make the game a little too easy. This makes you really panic and be like "Fuck you zombies! Where's a restroom?!" Capcom is making some hard ass games lately, which isn't bad my any means.
My only real gripe about the game is that the text is far too small. I have to sit close to my TV and strain my eyes to read any of it. And I have to agree about the AI being a god damn moron. I tried to save the two Japanese tourists, but they kept trying to punch the zombies to death and got themselves eaten. Protecting people is hard when you can damage them yourself. And I was hoping the Mega Buster was some sort of unlockable weapon that did lots of damage rather than a children's toy. Best children's toy ever though. I wish I had one as a kid. :( |
This game is pretty awesome, but hard as fuck. The ability to restart the game at any time "New Game +" style is a great for me (being a noob to the game, and not caring about having to start over), but I know there are some people who would loathe to have to use it. I'm going to play more right now.

http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20060812.jpg EDIT: Oh shit, it turns out you can get a "Real Mega Buster" if you get the Zombie Genocide achievement by killing 53,594 zombies, as well as the Megaman Boots and "Tights" by getting the Unbreakable and Punisher achievements. I've just made it my personal mission to get all these parts. |

I just completed Overtime mode mere moments ago. The Megaman Boots and Tights were unlocked, along with a slew of other outfits. I'm gonna start a new game with all these goodies before I tackle Infinite Mode, which seems pretty hardcore if you ask me. |
Hit Level 50 before thinking of going in there.
|
Heh... I tried Infinite Mode the moment I unlocked it, thinking it was basically just a zombie killfest with no time limit, so I was thoroughly confused when

So how did you go about getting Zombie Genocider? I've found that the quickest and easiest way is to Spoiler:

Just started playing Dead Rising.
When you beat the game on Survival Mode you unlock Infinite mode? Under Infinate mode you keep all your PP and it's the best mode to get achivements without time worries? |
You need to get the 'True Ending' to unlock the INIFINITY Mode. Yes, you always keep you Prestige Points and you can obtain some of the Achievements like the Genocide one but most of them are only available during the 72 Hours Mode.
|
Gawd, this game is hard as shit. Save often or get used to starting over.
I'll probably be level 25 before I can get past the first Scoop. Learning some tricks though, heading straight for the gun shop and loading up on shotguns. :) Game would be 5x easier though if my blade weapons wouldnt wear out on me. :/ |
the highest level you are and the right books you have in your possession, the longer they'll last.
And yes, it is 'challenging'. ;-) |
Right books? Not quite sure what you mean by that?
|
There are books littered throughout the mall that increase your abilities drastically. For instance, if you have a Criminal Biography book, your edged weapons like the katana and battle axe will last three times as long. Pair it with an Entertainment and Engineering book and the two Small Chainsaws, and you have a whopping 9x durability for the Chainsaws.
There are also books that increase the number of PP you get from killing zombies and increase the power of healing items. |
Thats cool. I'll need to gun for those then. Book effects carry over on new games?
|
No, you have to hold them in your inventory.
|
Cool. Finally found a use for the bookstores. =)
Anyone have a favorite starting kit that they go with when starting new games? I'm thinking of heading to the north plaza right off the bat. Current shopping list : 2x Wine 3x Shotgun 1x Sniper Rifle 2x Katana Blades :) Though I wish I knew the pattern of when Cleetus shows up in the weapon shop. Without guns you are screwed against him? Also is it just me or does it seem like if you stumble across boss encounters and not have the right wpns on you, you are just hosed? |
I'm almost done with 72 hour mode. I didn't mind starting over numerous times. I only saved about 9 survivors out of all the possible survivors. I didn't defeat all the psychopaths either. I think I'll do that on a new 72 hour mode and do the side stuff and not the main stuff. I currently have Frank at level 35. I can't wait to learn a uber hilarious skill that's funny to watch but very useful as well as long as you have no survivors around. It's only obtained when you reach level 50.

As for Cletus, he tends to show up around the time of the Medicine Run mission. Just head over there a mission or two before it and he should be there. And he's actually not that hard if you happen to go in unarmed. Just hide behind one of the display cases you can pick up, (I'm partial to the one in the upper right corner of the room.) wait for him to reload and make a mad dash behind the counter and grab one of the shotguns, and a wine or two if you can get it before he throws you back over. Be careful though, because it costs you one life point every time he throws you. Coupled with those shotgun blasts, he can take you out in a matter of moments. |
Finally a game that makes me wish I had a 360. This game sounds totally awesome and is a lot of what I want in a third person zombie game.

Some good news for the sales numbers of Dead Rising, for those interested:
Today Capcom announced Dead Rising, the company's first game for Xbox 360, has shipped more than 500,000 in the two weeks since its US launch date of August 8. In preparation for the next-generation, in 2005 Capcom concentrated on creating titles for foreign markets while seeking to improve its marketing, sales, and business operations functions in North America. The company attributes Dead Rising's early success to these changes. For those keeping track of random statistics, Dead Rising is also the fastest selling next-generation title from a Japanese publisher Not exact sales numbers, but it gives a good picture on the demand for the game. I'm sure Capcom is happy about the news, and Dead Rising 2 is inevitable now. |

I've been thinking about getting the game, but I've read that people are having trouble with the game. The game freezes and crashes. Is anyone here having problems playing the game?

None here.
I have an Intercooler though, so that might be a factor. |
Well the game has messed up on me once. While I was attempting Infinity mode, I got up to about 4 days and 22 hours. I go to a different area and then the game suddenly stops loading. So I wasted about 12 hours for nothing. That's the only problem I've encountered (maybe because I played for so long). you can't save in this mode right?

Damn, I love this game.

Just got this game (and an Xbox 360) recently, and I have to say, it's pretty fun so far.
I did notice one of those "game freezes up" issue when I was in the area after you leave the "safe" zone, and tried going into the park. Those stupid thugs on the humvee really pissed me off, because they never gave me much time to aim a shot, and it seems no matter what I did, the bullets always found their way to me. Their taunting certainly didn't help either, and although the music was appropiate, it almost got to the point where I just didn't want to go there anymore because killing them was such a PITA. Luckily during one run I managed to get them trapped between some trees, and shot the gunner until he died. Then stealing that .50 cal machine gun, I wasted the other two bastards, and man did it feel good using that gun on them after all the pain and trouble I went through (judging from what others have said though, I'm sure there are worse things to come). I like this game a lot so far. My only real complaint is the fact that the text is horribly small, so it's really hard for me to read (and this is on a 29 inch television) the text. And the comic about the walkie-talkie was hiliarious :D There were times I'm trying to fight for my life and avoid being zerged by the zombies, when the stupid thing keeps going off and off, and I'm afraid to answer it because I can't attack while listening to that (so I was really cracking up when those zombies attacked him lol). I hope they make a sequel to this game soon, and I hope they add a mode where you can just bust zombie heads without having to worry about anything (like draining health). There's just something cool about busting zombie heads. |
They show up more than once which to me is a shock, they must be infected with some bizarre strain. Grab the mega buster by killing 53,594 zombies and those thugs are pretty much a joke. 3 hours in the maintenance tunnel should get you those kills quickly.

I did this all during the very first case which is to aid Brad. Surprisingly you can be down there for days and the game won't end. Only when you do activate the Brad/Carlito cutscene the game ends. I took the corvette, headed into the maintenance tunnel, took the first right available and ran over whatever I coud then proceeded to get into the truck neary Larry the butcher. Killed all the zombies at that location, swarms of them are there and drove around until I felt it was necessary to head back out and swap with the corvette. Do this and you'll have it in no time.

Once I had the mega-buster, just about the rest of the game was a joke. Those thugs were so easy to beat that I think I wasted an entire mega buster shooting up their dead corpses for all the trouble they gave me (not to mention all that damn taunting), then used the .50 cal they had and shot them up some more. Boy was that satisfying :D Sniper Carlito went down in like 4 hits with it (and since he was running from me, it helped me kill him quicker :D), and just about every other boss that allowed me to use that gun died in like 1-6 shots. The megabuster is an example of an "I-win button" (MMORPG term) lol. Actually, what I found more interesting was killing the clown by the coaster ride, taking his chainsaw, and then grabbing those 3 books which made the chainsaw last pretty much forever (and because it was a "small" weapon, you don't drop it when you get hit like with the regular chainsaw). On top of that, you could grab more if you left the zone and came back (the one with the coaster ride), so I never bothered to get any other melee weapons again (the katana was okay prior to finding this out, but I didn't like it's short lifespan). Bosses also went down in like 3-6 hits with this thing. Now for that infinite mode... |
