Dead Rising

So, amid all this E3-osity, the game I want the most for the 360 remains Dead Rising, which is scheduled for release in August (Fuck, I thought it was being released in June until today.), so I must ask: Is this anybody else's dream game? Honestly, it sounds like Dawn of the Dead: The Game, with extra awesome!

I mean, hundreds of zombies in a mall, and you can use damn-near anything to kick the crap out of them. It's a game idea I've been hoping for for YEARS.

In fact, I was planning to pick up a 360 this month in anticipation of the game. I still might, but this game seems much, much, much better than any other game on the system (Except for Oblivion, but I have that for PC).

Anybody else interested in smashing zombie heads?

blisteredhands May 12, 2006 04:29 PM

I saw a preview for this a looooooong time ago in GameInformer, and I was instantly interested. Once I saw the trailer on xbox live, I grabbed it, watched it, and have been eagerly awaiting this game. I'm assuming that anything within the mall can be used at your disposal. The trailer cracked my ass up when he was placing masks on the zombies and they were stumbling around helplessly.

Anyway, yeah, eagerly anticipating this game. Hopefully it will spend as much time in my 360 as Oblivion has!

terrakazama May 13, 2006 11:55 PM

I like how you can you can use a Fender bass as a weapon. :D

I'm looking forward to it too.

DarkChaos May 14, 2006 02:28 AM

I saw this on the 360 Demo disc. You can use a stuffef bear as a weapon. You can also nick food from stands for health.

Furby May 15, 2006 08:03 PM

I saw the trailer for this game a while back and I just loved the fact that you could mow over zombie with the lawn mower.

Like someone said, it's like Dawn of the Dead Meet Shaun of the Dead, the game. Very awesome idea for a game.

SketchTheArtist May 28, 2006 01:35 PM

Newest news from the latest Famitsu gamazine!

A new character was revealed and it seems he either plays a large role in the game or he is in fact another playable character. Also, a cult seems to be based around the origins of the zombie outbreak. And finally, a special tactical unit will be deployed in the Mall sometimes during the game to stop the zombie epidemic and they will kill anything or anyone that'll stand in their way.

Enjoy!

Furby May 28, 2006 09:46 PM

He looks like one of those annoying characters that You would want them to die..

*AkirA* Jun 20, 2006 11:35 AM

I just hope it doesnt turn into a zombie version of dynasty warriors.

Furby Jun 20, 2006 01:38 PM

From what I read on PLay magazine, the game is sort of like State Of Emergency in the sense that you can just rip right thru it and be saved or you can stay around, save random people, take random pictures for points and take out zombies in style...

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jun 20, 2006 03:47 PM

Comparing anything to State of Emergency is a very very bad thing, Furby.

I hope to high heaven this doesn't turn out like that or like Dynasty Warriors. I'd be extremely disappointed.

WolfDemon Jun 21, 2006 07:59 PM

It looks fun enough, what with the myriad of weapons to choose from. It seems like you can use everything in the environment as a weapon. I even saw him throw fruit and boxes of cereal at the zombies.

I wonder what other kinds of little Capcom easter eggs will be in there, aside from the giant Servbot heads. It'd be awesome if you could get cool weapons like Dante's Alastor/Rebellion/Sparda, the Infinite Launcher from Resident Evil, Megaman's Buster, or even Ryu's Hadoken. I can't wait!

ShinBojack Jun 25, 2006 12:49 AM

The fact that you can use MegaMan's Mega Buster and Servbot/Kobun heads sells the game for me

I see it as Capcom's apology for releasing Final Fight Streetwise. In essence, this game can be seen as a beat-em-up of sorts.

Though I know people are still bitching about the supposed short length of the game. The fact that you have literally thousands of zombies in your way, and you can beat the crap out of them will provide me with endless entertainment. And even moreso should the rumored online co-op become a reality.

WolfDemon Jun 25, 2006 02:01 PM

Was it actually announced somewhere that the Mega Buster is a weapon? Because that was only speculation in my post. :/

ShinBojack Jun 25, 2006 10:40 PM

WolfDemon, you can see the Mega Buster in the trailer that was released on Xbox live Marketplace (I'm fairly certain that it's the trailer that was released before E3, not the E3 trailer).

You see it being used on a crowd of zombies for about a split-second, but it's surely there (most likely as some kind of unlockable though).

Infernal Monkey Jun 30, 2006 07:57 AM

Okay, so this is basically turning out to be the greatest game I've seen in a very long time. Gamespot updated with some new info and screens today, I had no idea you could wander about a whole heap of area outside. I was under the impression that you were just stuck in the mall for the whole game. GUESS NOT.

SketchTheArtist Jun 30, 2006 09:14 AM

This game is gonna be sex, guys! SEX!!

ShinBojack Jul 1, 2006 01:03 AM

Indeed. Kobun sex, which makes it all the more pleasurable.

Infernal, the more recent trailers (and the E3 trailer) did show various scenes out the reporter outside the mall (in courtyards, and the parking lot) kicking some zombie ass. It's been known for a while that you can venture outside the mall; though we don't exactly know the extent of how far outside the mall's limits we can explore.

I'm loving the motion blur and depth-of-field effects that are used in the game; subtle, but they add that extra level of realism.

Praying that Capcom will shell out a demo soon. But then again, if they're taking eons porting Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting over, then Dead Rising might be out of the question :edgartpg:

WolfDemon Jul 2, 2006 01:45 AM

I love how it keeps a little counter of how many zombies you kill. High score speed runs comin liek wut.

JasonTerminator Aug 1, 2006 12:17 AM

Comes out in a week guys, so get your pre-orders ready.

Words cannot describe the hotness that Dead Rising looks to be!

SketchTheArtist Aug 1, 2006 02:16 PM

The new EXTENDED TV SPOT just showcased a move I haven't seen before!! You can punch a Zombie in the stomach and literally rip out its guts!!!! O_O

In other news, I'll be able to play the full Retail version tonight. ;-P

Slayer X Aug 2, 2006 12:11 AM

Dude you have got to get back to us and let us know how the full version turned out. I know that Gamespot was bitching about constant loading of areas and cinematics but, it's Gamespot who bitches about everything and it's not the final retail build.

P.S.
At the end of the extended trailer it sais that a demo is coming to the marketplace, has anyone heard when this'll be?

SketchTheArtist Aug 2, 2006 01:20 AM

GODAMMIT!!!

Grrr....all is fucked! I have a 10% of playing it, only it's this Thursday. Argh. It's coming out next week, so it's not too bad, but just thinking about the fact that I might've been playing it RIGHT NOW is just too.....ARGHHH!

Anyhoo, yeah, a demo's coming but no word on a date.

Slayer X Aug 3, 2006 05:13 PM

According to Joystiq, a demo for Dead Rising should be hitting the marketplace within the next 24 hours. The reason why no one knows exactly is probably because it has to go through the live testing before coming to marketplace, which is an infamously long process (not that it needs to be).

JasonTerminator Aug 3, 2006 07:32 PM

Fuck yeah!

I hope it gets posted before the game hits the stores, because anytime after that defeats the purpose for me.

Slayer X Aug 3, 2006 07:54 PM

Yeah, same here. I see the purpose for the majority of people who don't buy every game right when it comes out, but I wouldn't qualify for that group. And really I have a painstaken craving to play this game RIGHT NOW!!!

*This post has not been spell checked*

ShinBojack Aug 3, 2006 11:44 PM

Curious...anyone see the Webisodes that have hit the web and Marketplace as of late?

They're all comprised of cutscenes from the game, and it's looking real good right now. Hard to say, but it's looking even sharper than it did at E3 this year! The use of motion blur and depth of field just add to the graphical flair of the game.

Hopefully that demo does arrive soon, cuz I'm in the same boat as you guys. No reason for a demo to be released after it hits shelves, as it defeats the purpose of giving exposure to the game so that consumers will buy it when it hits the store shelves. Even though the Marketplace Crew has said that nothing is released on Fridays, it has seen some exceptions as of late (Ninety Nine Nights for example).

So let's hope that we get lucky this Friday.

Slayer X Aug 4, 2006 12:11 AM

True, true.
The unfortunate part is that MS does have a history of releasing demoes after the game comes out. But Capcom probably submitted the demo to MS when they announced the demo in that one Webisode, so it probably just depends as to how long it takes MS to test the living c$@# out of it before it hits the marketplace.

ShinBojack Aug 4, 2006 01:12 AM

Yep.

I'm sure they're extensively testing it, just as they did with the King Kong demo, which, come to think of it, mysteriously vanished from the Marketplace after a couple of days. I wonder why that happened...

In all seriousness though, I hope Microsoft doesn't screw this one up, because unlike King Kong, this game isn't just a free giveaway for Achievement points.

Slayer X Aug 4, 2006 07:33 AM

lol... yeah.....

Oh yeah!!! I almost forgot (not really)...

The Dead Rising demo is now on the marketplace ^^

WolfDemon Aug 4, 2006 11:17 AM

I just put the game on reserve yesterday, and I'm getting a nifty shirt for it. :)

Can't wait for next week. And now I'm off to download that demo.

Grundlefield Earth Aug 4, 2006 11:45 AM

This game owns. I was kicked off the demo three times so far when it came to be 7pm, I went to the movie theatre and I went into some warehouse.

Plarom Aug 4, 2006 03:30 PM

I'm eagerly awaiting this game as well.

Undoubtedly the best demo to hit the Marketplace. Bar none.

The demo gives you 15 minutes of free-roaming goodness around a portion of the mall, allowing you to kill the infinite number of zombies to your heart's content. Is there really more that you could ask for?

Just don't go to the Warehouse, outside the mall, to the Movie Theater, or the Entrance Plaza, or you will trigger a cutscene which ends the demo. Nice cutscenes and all, but you just really want to kill, kill, and kill some more zombies.

Anyone find the SMG and Katana yet? The katana is just fucking sweet guys. One swipe and the zombies are cut in half. If you want to recreate Kill Bill's Crazy 88's fight, then this is the way to do it.
  • The SMG is located on the blue walkway to the right of the 1st flight of stairs that you encounter. Just jump onto the blue railway, then follow it along until you spot the SMG.
  • As for the Kitana, just go to the Colombian Rosters cafe on the 2nd floor, and jump over the balcony near the cash registers. On the awning, you'll see the Katana.

Also, for you pervs, take a picture of the female zombies with lingerie on, and see what happens.

I can't fucking wait for the 8th to arrive. There is no way this game can do any wrong.

Put THE GONG from 1976's Dawn of the Dead or the Benny Hill theme while playing. It multiplies the fun by a thousand.

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurkin' in the dark.
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart.
You try to scream, but terror takes the sound before you make it.
You start to freeze, as horror looks you right between the eyes, you're paralyzed...

'Cause this is thriller!

LivingDreams Aug 5, 2006 03:34 AM

Dead Rising look like a good horror type of game with humor in it. I didn't like the demo they released on the marketplace. As soon as you enter a certain section or go out of a section a damn cutscene has to play and the demo ends. They shoulda made it where you can play and finish at least half of a mission or something.

Newbie1234 Aug 5, 2006 06:12 PM

I would really have liked some sort of multiplayer component.

The demo was enjoyable, but as it stands now, it looks like it'll get repetitive after a couple of hours. Hopefully the retail game has as much variety as it boasts.

SketchTheArtist Aug 5, 2006 06:35 PM

There's SO MUCH stuff you can do in the demo, variety isn't a problem. I can't wait for the final retail version this week.

Slayer X Aug 5, 2006 09:50 PM

I do find that there is a limit on what you can do but it is a demo, and it's an earlier build. Heck I imagine that in the same area of the retail build will probably have twice the amount of stuff to use and wear. I'm not worried about the final version at all.

While I do agree that the demo might not really show the full potential of the game, for people like me who know what will be in the final build, this demo is really just to hold me over till the 8th.

In case you didn't read what I wrote earlier in the thread:

Quote:

Just don't go to the Warehouse, outside the mall, to the Movie Theater, or the Entrance Plaza, or you will trigger a cutscene which ends the demo. Nice cutscenes and all, but you just really want to kill, kill, and kill some more zombies.
These 4 places automatically trigger a cutscene, which in the retail version of the game, give more explanation to the backstory. As long as you stay within the boundaries of the mall itself and don't go to the places I listed, then you'll be able to free-roam around a good portion of the mall for around 15 minutes. If you spend the 15 minutes just going on a zombie-killing rampage, then I think you might change your opinion on the game.

Either way, it is a demo, and as such is just a taste of what to expect from the full retail game...there'd be no reason to buy the game if this demo had allowed us to play for an infinite amount of time.

By the way, another little secret in case you didn't know:
  • On the 1st floor, before the Movie Theater is a restaurant called Jill's Sandwiches.
  • Next to the cash registers you will find a carton of Orange Juice.
  • DO NOT drink it and keep it in your inventory.
  • Proceed to the 2nd floor and go to the Colombian Roasters Cafe.
  • Take one of the pies from the counter and walk over to the blender in the kitchen.
  • Mix the pie and Orange Juice into the blender and pick up the juice that pops out.
  • Voila! You know have "Untouchable", a drink which grants you temporary invincibility.

Of course, you can then jump into the sea of zombies and slaughter them without the fear of being injured! Enjoy :edgarrock:

SketchTheArtist Aug 6, 2006 02:32 AM

PIE + JUICE = Untouchable
CONDIMENTS (Found in 'Jill's Sandwiches') + CONDIMENTS = Spit Fire
UNTOUCHABLE + SPIT FIRE = ZOMBAIT

Zombait attracts zombies. ;-P

*AkirA* Aug 7, 2006 05:44 PM

I enjoyed the demo, and it reminded me of the old game Fighting Force (dont ask), but I didnt like how there was one move for each weapon. I would of liked some kind of combo system (nothing extravagant but atleast a different move per joystick direction).

The controls were slick, but felt a tad sluggish. Other then these complaints it was just plain fun. Of course its just a demo, so Ill have to wait and see the final build in action.

Newbie1234 Aug 7, 2006 05:50 PM

I know that the sledgehammer and scythe have an extra attack if you hold X.

Slayer X Aug 7, 2006 06:49 PM

That's correct Newbie1234.

But really, if Capcom created 5 moves for each weapon it would have just been a ridiculous amount of work. Especially in the final version where there will be so many "weapons" that the variety of things that you'll be using will be so tremendous that you wouldn't probably be using anything all that long to want more moves.

But when you talk about the demo, due to the "shortage" of items I can see your point.

WolfDemon Aug 7, 2006 06:58 PM

Does anyone else find the giant Servbot in the toy store to be somewhat suspicious? I don't know why, but I get the feeling there's more to it than the top of it's head spinning when you hit it. Maybe in the final build that's where you find the Mega Buster?

I remember seeing it being used, I believe it was the trailer on XBL marketplace which clearly showed the mega buster in use. :)

ShinBojack Aug 7, 2006 11:07 PM

Well, there is some use for it in the demo. You have to hit the giant Servbot enough so that the dizzy eyes match up with the sad mouth, and then you take a picture of it, giving you a large amount of PP. It's a little easier if you just hit the Servbot head with the water gun, as it gives you more precision in lining up the facial expressions than with the sledgehammer or scythe.

While not having any use in the demo, PP is what levels Frank up (as far as learning new moves, having more stamina, etc.). Some other free PP spots are taking pictures of the cardboard woman in the Music Store (to the left of the Servbot store), and taking a snapshot of the Ratman poster in front of the Movie Theater. So now you have some locations to go to get some free experience points when the game comes out tomorrow.

Lord, I can't wait.

I can see your point, considering the large number of useable items, but I would like to see something, like the scyth for example, be able to do a small swinging combo, even if it meant only hitting X three times in a row.

I guess my complaint is more in relation to the fact that it seems your always killing one zombie at a time. I would prefer more mass carnage.

I think it might have to do with me playing the 99 Knights demo to death. I think im trying to get the games to be the same pace when there two totally different things.

I believe this game will grow on me the more I play it. I really do enjoy the novelty of it though. Its almost retro in the way it plays.

WolfDemon Aug 8, 2006 05:05 PM

My boss gave me today and tomorrow off to make up on the weekend, so I got myself all hyped to play all day today and tomorrow, but I went to EB and they were like "lol it's here tomorrow n00b." And after they kept telling me "It'll be here the 8th! Promise!"

I'm pretty sure that Capcom didn't want to bust out too much cash for this game as it is a pretty risky new project and IP.

Slayer X Aug 8, 2006 09:06 PM

This is very true. New IPs are always big risks. Especially when doing ine on a console that's not even a year old yet. But the good news is if they pull them off, expect to see them around for a while.

Yeah, that's what I was told Monday when I asked about the status of my preorder at the store.

And today, I got a phone call telling me that they'll have the game tomorrow afternoon. What kind of shit is that? Call me when you HAVE THE FUCKING GAME, not before.

Apparently, it's only a "medium-interest" game for EB, so they don't bother getting it on day one. Fuckers. Why the fuck should I pre-order from them in the future?

I would assume they call you the day before so that you can plan to be there the next day.

At least you got a call though. I got nothing. Yeah, never pre-booking from there again.

Plarom Aug 9, 2006 08:05 PM

Hey, has anyone gotten the game yet? I've had it since 4PM and Xbox has yet to be turned off..

Observations:

- If you fail a single piece of the main storyline, then the entire remainder of story cannot be completed. Clearly if you want to get the best ending, you'll have to be focused on finishing key events. However, if you do fail something, the game gives you the option of reloading or simply running amok in the mall where you can still gain experience and finish side quests.

- Rescuing survivors will provide a huge reward in PP, but it can be quite difficult. As you escort people, you'll notice the zombies coming at you much more fierce since there's more food running by them. I was escorting two people when I noticed one of 'em started to lag behind. I turn around I and witness my escortee being dogpiled by zombies. When I try to save her, my other survivor gets attacked. Before I know it there were literally a 100 zombies all over us, chomping down. A long story short, both survivors ended up being turned undead and I barely escaped with a single box of my health. Good times! :D

SketchTheArtist Aug 9, 2006 11:45 PM

Yeah, I love the 'rush' this game provides. 'Here's a mall with zombies, survivors and psychopaths! You've got 72 hours to make the best of it! Good Luck!"

I love rescuing people, even if the AI is kinda dumb sometimes. It's pretty satisfying!

Also, try to get abducted by the Cultists. Pretty hilarious!

WolfDemon Aug 10, 2006 12:44 AM

It's a little frustrating that there's no continue option when you die. But I guess that'd make the game a little too easy. This makes you really panic and be like "Fuck you zombies! Where's a restroom?!" Capcom is making some hard ass games lately, which isn't bad my any means.

My only real gripe about the game is that the text is far too small. I have to sit close to my TV and strain my eyes to read any of it. And I have to agree about the AI being a god damn moron. I tried to save the two Japanese tourists, but they kept trying to punch the zombies to death and got themselves eaten. Protecting people is hard when you can damage them yourself.

And I was hoping the Mega Buster was some sort of unlockable weapon that did lots of damage rather than a children's toy. Best children's toy ever though. I wish I had one as a kid. :(

Kaleb.G Aug 13, 2006 05:11 PM

This game is pretty awesome, but hard as fuck. The ability to restart the game at any time "New Game +" style is a great for me (being a noob to the game, and not caring about having to start over), but I know there are some people who would loathe to have to use it. I'm going to play more right now.

Heh, getting Zombie Genocider was pretty tough, but EXTREMELY worth it. The Real Mega Buster kills bosses in 3-5 hits and is loaded with 300 shots. You can easily carry this for the entire 72-hour mode and never use up all the shots. Luckily, it respawns once it's depleted so it's not like it would be gone forever.

I just completed Overtime mode mere moments ago. The Megaman Boots and Tights were unlocked, along with a slew of other outfits. I'm gonna start a new game with all these goodies before I tackle Infinite Mode, which seems pretty hardcore if you ask me.

SketchTheArtist Aug 13, 2006 10:06 PM

Hit Level 50 before thinking of going in there.

WolfDemon Aug 13, 2006 11:06 PM

Heh... I tried Infinite Mode the moment I unlocked it, thinking it was basically just a zombie killfest with no time limit, so I was thoroughly confused when
Spoiler:
Otis started attacking me with a frying pan and the three snipers were waiting for me outside. And it wasn't until a few minutes before I died that I realized my health was slowly draining and thought, "Oh shit, this is a Survival Mode."

So how did you go about getting Zombie Genocider? I've found that the quickest and easiest way is to
Spoiler:
get in the red car and go into the Maintenance Tunnel, to the top left corner of the map that leads to the supermarket and tear ass until it breaks down, then take the van to the area that leads to Paradise Plaza, get in the white car and make one more trip back to where you get the van for massive damage, then head back outside and get another red car and repeat. Each run should net you at the very least 1,200 kills.
By the time I finished, I still had over a day left to spare.

TonyDaTigger Aug 20, 2006 02:26 PM

Just started playing Dead Rising.

When you beat the game on Survival Mode you unlock Infinite mode?
Under Infinate mode you keep all your PP and it's the best mode to get achivements without time worries?

SketchTheArtist Aug 20, 2006 05:22 PM

You need to get the 'True Ending' to unlock the INIFINITY Mode. Yes, you always keep you Prestige Points and you can obtain some of the Achievements like the Genocide one but most of them are only available during the 72 Hours Mode.

TonyDaTigger Aug 21, 2006 12:03 AM

Gawd, this game is hard as shit. Save often or get used to starting over.
I'll probably be level 25 before I can get past the first Scoop.

Learning some tricks though, heading straight for the gun shop and loading up on shotguns. :)

Game would be 5x easier though if my blade weapons wouldnt wear out on me. :/

SketchTheArtist Aug 21, 2006 11:14 AM

the highest level you are and the right books you have in your possession, the longer they'll last.

And yes, it is 'challenging'. ;-)

TonyDaTigger Aug 21, 2006 05:59 PM

Right books? Not quite sure what you mean by that?

WolfDemon Aug 21, 2006 07:06 PM

There are books littered throughout the mall that increase your abilities drastically. For instance, if you have a Criminal Biography book, your edged weapons like the katana and battle axe will last three times as long. Pair it with an Entertainment and Engineering book and the two Small Chainsaws, and you have a whopping 9x durability for the Chainsaws.

There are also books that increase the number of PP you get from killing zombies and increase the power of healing items.

TonyDaTigger Aug 21, 2006 07:45 PM

Thats cool. I'll need to gun for those then. Book effects carry over on new games?

WolfDemon Aug 21, 2006 07:52 PM

No, you have to hold them in your inventory.

TonyDaTigger Aug 22, 2006 01:55 AM

Cool. Finally found a use for the bookstores. =)

Anyone have a favorite starting kit that they go with when starting new games?

I'm thinking of heading to the north plaza right off the bat. Current shopping list :

2x Wine
3x Shotgun
1x Sniper Rifle
2x Katana Blades

:)

Though I wish I knew the pattern of when Cleetus shows up in the weapon shop. Without guns you are screwed against him?

Also is it just me or does it seem like if you stumble across boss encounters and not have the right wpns on you, you are just hosed?

DBCE Slayer Aug 24, 2006 06:33 AM

I'm almost done with 72 hour mode. I didn't mind starting over numerous times. I only saved about 9 survivors out of all the possible survivors. I didn't defeat all the psychopaths either. I think I'll do that on a new 72 hour mode and do the side stuff and not the main stuff. I currently have Frank at level 35. I can't wait to learn a uber hilarious skill that's funny to watch but very useful as well as long as you have no survivors around. It's only obtained when you reach level 50.

Spoiler:
The skill at level 50 that I'm talking about is the Zombie Walk.

I found that move to be pretty useless actually.
Spoiler:
Sure, it looks funny and zombies ignore you when you use it, but it takes too long to activate, you're agonizingly slow when you use it, and if zombies are already coming after you when you activate it, they'll take a whack at you anyway, cancelling the whole thing out. Also, in a timed game like this, you can't afford to be slow.

As for Cletus, he tends to show up around the time of the Medicine Run mission. Just head over there a mission or two before it and he should be there. And he's actually not that hard if you happen to go in unarmed. Just hide behind one of the display cases you can pick up, (I'm partial to the one in the upper right corner of the room.) wait for him to reload and make a mad dash behind the counter and grab one of the shotguns, and a wine or two if you can get it before he throws you back over. Be careful though, because it costs you one life point every time he throws you. Coupled with those shotgun blasts, he can take you out in a matter of moments.

Mucknuggle Aug 25, 2006 07:44 PM

Finally a game that makes me wish I had a 360. This game sounds totally awesome and is a lot of what I want in a third person zombie game.

I found that you can go to Cletus in the beginning when you're making your way to help Brad in the food court but I would only recommend it if you have a lot of weapons and a lot of health items. A SMG and a couple of handguns should do it. When I made my first run in 72 hour mode, I never fought Cletus because I would die every time. So I didn't go to the gunshop until later around the night of Day 2. That's when the 2 dudes and the chick are there. I'm making my second run of 72 hour mode because you don't gain experience in Infinity Mode. So I'm leveling Frank up to 50 before I attempt that. I have Frank at level 38..or is it 39? I don't remember which one but I'm damn well near level 40.

Some good news for the sales numbers of Dead Rising, for those interested:

Today Capcom announced Dead Rising, the company's first game for Xbox 360, has shipped more than 500,000 in the two weeks since its US launch date of August 8.

In preparation for the next-generation, in 2005 Capcom concentrated on creating titles for foreign markets while seeking to improve its marketing, sales, and business operations functions in North America. The company attributes Dead Rising's early success to these changes. For those keeping track of random statistics, Dead Rising is also the fastest selling next-generation title from a Japanese publisher

Not exact sales numbers, but it gives a good picture on the demand for the game. I'm sure Capcom is happy about the news, and Dead Rising 2 is inevitable now.

Maybe they'll have you travel the country in search of all the kids Carlito infected to kill/cure them. GOOD OR EVIL, THE CHOICE IS YOURS. There can be only one Highlander.

That would be the true sequel to the game if it has one. Oh, and I did try Infinity Mode. The most I've survived is 32 hours and 45 minutes. I think I'm gonna attempt to do the Zombie Genocider achievement before I attempt Infinity Mode again. I like having Frank run around with only the Mega Man Tights, helmet and bare feet. What's really funny is having him in the Wrestling Boots and Tights. In infinity mode, you can kill Carlito when you're in the Maintenence Tunnel. Just carry a Katana and or a Meat Cleaver, and hack away at him until he runs away then comes back. Do that 3 or 4 times and he coughs up a lotta good items like wine, SMG, and other good stuff.

xman25 Sep 5, 2006 12:28 AM

I've been thinking about getting the game, but I've read that people are having trouble with the game. The game freezes and crashes. Is anyone here having problems playing the game?

JasonTerminator Sep 5, 2006 12:34 AM

None here.

I have an Intercooler though, so that might be a factor.

SuperDK Sep 5, 2006 02:44 AM

Well the game has messed up on me once. While I was attempting Infinity mode, I got up to about 4 days and 22 hours. I go to a different area and then the game suddenly stops loading. So I wasted about 12 hours for nothing. That's the only problem I've encountered (maybe because I played for so long). you can't save in this mode right?

Ry Fry Sep 11, 2006 11:22 AM

Damn, I love this game.

Just need Frank the Pimp, Transmissionary, 5 and 7-Day Survivor!

I read somewhere that on day 4 the Food Court does that. Try to stay clear of it, but I guess it's a little late for you now. Sorry. =(

Game publisher Capcom indicated this morning that there is no solution forthcoming to the issues that cause their latest hit game, Dead Rising for Xbox 360, to be nearly unplayable on standard definition TV sets.

A representative of the publisher told 1up.com that a patch "is not possible" due to the scope of the problem, which causes the in-game text messages to be unreadably small on non-HD displays.
oof.

Jesus Christ, is it seriously as bad at this? There's no bloody way I'll be getting a HDTV anytime soon. Their existence here is still at a 'complete joke' level.

Grundlefield Earth Sep 12, 2006 02:15 AM

I played the demo and it was fine.

TonyDaTigger Sep 12, 2006 02:23 AM

Does anyone know if you have to save any civillians to unlock overtime mode?
Or can you run through the game just being sure to catch every case and thats all you need?

I've spent a couple days playing it on a standard TV using an RGB cable, and for the most part it was easily readable. But I would put that down to the cable.

TonyDaTigger Sep 15, 2006 10:45 AM

Anyone know if you can still unlock overtime mode by just going through all the cases? Or do you still need to get additional scoops and rescue people?

WolfDemon Sep 15, 2006 02:27 PM

You don't have to rescue people, but how else are you gonna pass the time between cases?

TonyDaTigger Sep 15, 2006 04:49 PM

Kill the people?
:D

Yup, that helps greatly. There have only been a few times that the game has bugged out on me but that's because I was playing it for a very long period of time without any breaks.

To unlock Overtime Mode, you just need to solve all the cases and reveal all the facts behind the case. Survivors aren't a factor in that one. Cause to unlock Overtime Mode, you need to get the best ending which is to do what I mentioned above. Completing Overtime mode nets you the true ending and unlocks Infinite Mode. Lemme just tell you, the last boss in OT Mode can be a bitch sometimes.

If you know his pattern, he's actually pretty easy. The Knee Drop move is quite helpful.

What I did was the Jump Kick + Roundhouse kick combo and went back and forth between the two different levels on the tank. Which did work. Took a bit of patience but it was worth it.

T1249NTSCJ Oct 12, 2006 08:03 PM

For the Census Taker achievement, is it necessary to keep the photos of the 50 survivors on Frank's camera or can I just snap and delete, should I run out of space?

Gecko3 Oct 20, 2006 10:41 PM

Just got this game (and an Xbox 360) recently, and I have to say, it's pretty fun so far.

I did notice one of those "game freezes up" issue when I was in the area after you leave the "safe" zone, and tried going into the park.

Those stupid thugs on the humvee really pissed me off, because they never gave me much time to aim a shot, and it seems no matter what I did, the bullets always found their way to me. Their taunting certainly didn't help either, and although the music was appropiate, it almost got to the point where I just didn't want to go there anymore because killing them was such a PITA.

Luckily during one run I managed to get them trapped between some trees, and shot the gunner until he died. Then stealing that .50 cal machine gun, I wasted the other two bastards, and man did it feel good using that gun on them after all the pain and trouble I went through (judging from what others have said though, I'm sure there are worse things to come).

I like this game a lot so far. My only real complaint is the fact that the text is horribly small, so it's really hard for me to read (and this is on a 29 inch television) the text. And the comic about the walkie-talkie was hiliarious :D There were times I'm trying to fight for my life and avoid being zerged by the zombies, when the stupid thing keeps going off and off, and I'm afraid to answer it because I can't attack while listening to that (so I was really cracking up when those zombies attacked him lol).

I hope they make a sequel to this game soon, and I hope they add a mode where you can just bust zombie heads without having to worry about anything (like draining health). There's just something cool about busting zombie heads.

T1249NTSCJ Oct 21, 2006 12:51 PM

They show up more than once which to me is a shock, they must be infected with some bizarre strain. Grab the mega buster by killing 53,594 zombies and those thugs are pretty much a joke. 3 hours in the maintenance tunnel should get you those kills quickly.

Ah great, something to look forward too lol. Anyway, thanks for the info, after getting beat by them, I would like to pop a few caps in them :D

If you destory the vehicle (by either running into a lot of zombies in the maintenence tunnel or gunning the vehicle down until you can't get in it) they don't appear as much and they don't appear when you're transporting Isabela, and near the end of the game.

T1249NTSCJ Oct 24, 2006 10:52 AM

I did this all during the very first case which is to aid Brad. Surprisingly you can be down there for days and the game won't end. Only when you do activate the Brad/Carlito cutscene the game ends. I took the corvette, headed into the maintenance tunnel, took the first right available and ran over whatever I coud then proceeded to get into the truck neary Larry the butcher. Killed all the zombies at that location, swarms of them are there and drove around until I felt it was necessary to head back out and swap with the corvette. Do this and you'll have it in no time.

I tried to beat the game "normally", but Carlito with the sniper rifle kept beating me repeatedly (I didn't know where the gun shack was at the time, and when my brother found it by accident, I didn't feel like fighting a drunken redneck with a shotgun after watching my brother struggle on him). So I did the "run over 53,594 zombies to get the Real Mega Buster" (which I think took me about 4 hours, and then I managed to rack up to about close to 70k kills before I got to the chopper at the end the first time).

Once I had the mega-buster, just about the rest of the game was a joke. Those thugs were so easy to beat that I think I wasted an entire mega buster shooting up their dead corpses for all the trouble they gave me (not to mention all that damn taunting), then used the .50 cal they had and shot them up some more. Boy was that satisfying :D

Sniper Carlito went down in like 4 hits with it (and since he was running from me, it helped me kill him quicker :D), and just about every other boss that allowed me to use that gun died in like 1-6 shots. The megabuster is an example of an "I-win button" (MMORPG term) lol.

Actually, what I found more interesting was killing the clown by the coaster ride, taking his chainsaw, and then grabbing those 3 books which made the chainsaw last pretty much forever (and because it was a "small" weapon, you don't drop it when you get hit like with the regular chainsaw). On top of that, you could grab more if you left the zone and came back (the one with the coaster ride), so I never bothered to get any other melee weapons again (the katana was okay prior to finding this out, but I didn't like it's short lifespan). Bosses also went down in like 3-6 hits with this thing.

Now for that infinite mode...
