E3 Best of Show?
So, out of everything you've seen so far, which developer are you most impressed by? I won't go into detail, becuase everything has been discussed in depth in their respective subforums.
Comments? |
Between the Wii, the games for it, and the new DS games, I have to go with Nintendo. Microsoft didn't have the wow of a new system, and the PS3's lineup wasn't enough to justify the system, so Nintendo stole the show for me.
|
Nintendo did everything right this E3. They win internets.
Kickass new console, inovative controller, classic controller functionality (for conservative n00b types), virtual console (<3) and SmashfuckingBrothers Brawl. I am completely satisfied, and then some. |
Chose Nintendo, Not because of only SSBB and Uematsu composing the main theme, but also the chalkload of new games coming out. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon looks super sweet as well as Diddy Kong Racing DS.
I can't forget Super Paper Mario either. Nintendo completely kicked Microsoft and Sony's asses. |
MGS4 trailer. 'Nuff said.
|
Even if their presentation was subpar, at least I can tolerate and possibly have a decent conversation with their fans.
Sony for the win. Oh, and who has the kickass looking Gundam game? That's right, Sony. GUNDAMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU |
Nintendo for the obvious win.
I thought I saw a Gundam game for Wii too. It was either that or One Piece... |
As of right now, Nintendo all the way. Wii makes me feel like a little kid again!
Microsoft didn't really wow me, yet. I want Rare to show a kick-ass game instead of that kiddy shit they showed. They fucked-up Perfect Dark, Kameo wasn't all that and now Pinata. Blargh. I was happy with the Halo 3 announcement and Gears of Wars kicked my ass to next week! Still, like I said, there's no HUGE announcements or surprise. As for Sony, well, they announced a system which has stuff I don't even need or want for a shitload of cash. They didn't show a lot, even talk a lot about the system. The online system they bragged about wasn't even adressed. There was no showstopper in the games departement. Sure, MGS4 looks great and is probably gonna play alright, but Sony didn't steal this years E3 by showing cut-scenes from a blockbuster game. Dissapointed, as I predicted. So, yeah, Nintendo gave one hell of a kick in the crotch of the industry. Kudos. |
There's also a Gundam game for the 360. But no one cares since they changed the name to Mobile Ops.

I just want to cut Zakus in half already, somebody needs to hurry that shit up. |
Nintendo STOLE THE FUCKING SHOW AND HAD BONDAGE SEX, THAT IS ALL.
SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL WHAT? SONIC WILDFIRE NOT SUCKING WHAT?! MARIO GALAXY WHAT, WHAT?! SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL FOR THE FUCKING WIN. Now I see why they didn't include it in the conference. I'm a fanboy again :'D |

Sonic Team hasn't made a good 3D game in years, why in the hell is anybody going to start giving them the benefit of the doubt now? All that's different this time around is that they've got a new platform to blow ass on. A good Sonic game? I'll believe it when I actually play it. |

"Hey guys you know that game we made that was horrible a while back? Well here it is again! Yeah, we updated some graphics and made it so you can link up with your GBA, but other than that we really didn't do much to improve over the original. Camera angles? Come on, that whole thing was just an urban legend, Sonic Adventure never had camera problems, never!" |
Nintendo, Metroid Prime 3 and Twilight Princess were already very sweet. Sony had some good stuff like FF13 and MGS4, but Super Smash Brothers Brawl sealed the deal.
|
Sonic Adventure was really good.
I'll give them benefit of the doubt since they made so much good Sonic titles in the past. If it turns out bad, I won't buy it. Simple as that. |
Quote:
Is it too much to ask that they actually put some effort into what they put out? I used to really look forward to new releases until I played what was essentially several different titles that were just slight upgrades of Sonic Adventure. :( |
I wasn't really impressed by any of them. Nintendo's was pretty disappointing really, Microsoft didn't have all that many huge announcements but did have some nice trailers to show, and Sony's was kinda lackluster overall with the only highlight being the showing of third party games.
|
Quote:
[s]You mentioned Smash Bros. twice and they still haven't announced anything yet. They might be saving it for TGS.[/s] EDIT: WHERE IS THE STRIKEOUT Also, we know the Sonic on PS3 and 360 will suck based on screenshots alone. But could Sonic Wildfire be the one? The one to successfully unite 2D nostalgic elements with gameplay in a 3D environment and innovate with the controller in ways you couldn't imagine? Wait until late 2007 when it's out and see. |

E3 isn't over yet, kids...

I'd love nothing better than for Sonic Team to prove me wrong and take Sonic back to his glory days, but they've been in the business of proving me right for quite some time now. This could very well be the one and I like how it looks, but how it plays is a different matter entirely. |

When you continue to expect crap you're only to get crap. It's not like I want them to make the game to end all games here, I just want them to make something that's fun for more than thirty minutes.

BY GIVING SEGA MONEY FOR THEIR CRAP GAMES YOU WILL SEND THE MESSAGE THAT THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY BECAUSE, UM, BECAUSE...BECAUSE GAMERS WHO BUY GAMES ARE EXPECTING GAMES...WHAT I MEAN IS GAMES THAT SUCK SUCK BECAUSE GAMERS SAY THEY DO, NOT BECAUSE THE CREATORS SUCK SO IF YOU BUY A SUCKY GAME IT'S YOUR FAULT FOR THINKING IT SUCKS WHEN IT'S REALLY PROBABLY GOOD. GAMES THAT SUCK ARE NOT TO BE BLAMED FOR PEOPLE WHO SUCK AT BUYING GOOD GAMES. IF YOU BUY A SUCKY GAME IT IS YOU WHO IS SENDING THE MESSAGE TO SEGA: "I SUCK"; AND BY SUCKING YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF KNOWING WHAT A GOOD GAME IS. WHEN YOU PLAY SONIC AND THINK IT'S SUCKY, YOU'RE PROBABLY WRONG BECAUSE OF YOUR SUCKY OPINION. SEGA DOESN'T NEED SUCKY PEOPLE WHO MAKE SUCKY DECISIONS INFLUENCING THEIR VISION OF WHAT A GOOD SONIC GAME SHOULD BE! IF YOU'D BUY GOOD SONIC GAMES AND TELL EVERYONE THAT THE SONIC GAME WAS GOOD, THEN MAYBE SEGA WOULD MAKE A GOOD SONIC GAME AGAIN!
DON'T YOU SEE HOW SIMPLE IT IS? |
Duh, Nintendo. Poll already reflects that this was a complete no-brainer choice. Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and now fucking Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Couple all that amazement with the amount of awesome DS games (Phoenix Wright 2, Yoshi's Island 2, Kirby, Starfox 2, Elite Beat Agents). If you chose anything else you are a complete idiot.
Oh and Sonic Wild Fire sounds good from what I read reported from IGN and PGC it has no camera issues that plagued past 3D Sonic games and is very promising and fun. http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707191p1.html http://planetgamecube.com/impression...fm?artid=11505 |
Nintendo keeps kicking me in the face. Sony started to, but pulled a fast one and ended up kneeing me in the balls with a $600 price tag. MS put me to sleep, but I woke up for Halo 3. Then the Nintendo info starts rolling out and it's just BAM! BAM! BAM! Okay! I get it already! Wii looks awesome, DS still looks awesome, Smash Bros....just Smash Bros!
The MGS4 trailer was fantastic, but I cannot seriously justify paying $600 for the system. Sony and MS just need to stop with the consoles and start with the WiiWii! |
Quote:
But really, Sony had a pretty lackluster presentation overall, so it's probably just a battle between the other two. I hear Sony's booth has some nice demos though, didn't someone talk about FFXIII being playable? |

I've been making a concerted effort to play games less, but I can't deny the fact that the Wii is actually something I'm looking forward to. Props to Nintendo on innovation as usual. Hopefully it'll sell for $199.95 or less, that would guarantee monster sales.

I am relatively impressed by Halo 3, Heavenly Sword and Genji 2 and the PS3 interests me because of Fumito Ueda's next project, but you can't deny that Nintendo was outstanding.
The conference itself was entertaining enough (though some of the speeches were cheesy), and the Wii is terrific as a concept, once they started announcing titles, it was like massive bomb after bomb. Yoshi's Island 2. Starfox DS. Super Mario Galaxy. Wario Ware Wii. Hotel Dusk 215. Disaster: Day of Crisis. Magical Vacation. Phoenix Wright 2. Super Paper Mario completely floored me and I can't wait for it. And this morning I wake up to find the most awesome trailer ever for Super Smash Bros Brawl, with online play. Fucking sold already. I have a question though. They usually award "best of show" award for the games at E3, right? Can a game that isn't playable win? Because MGS4 is probably going to win Game of the Show, but I'm kinda puzzled about the point of awarding a game that doesn't have playable or in-game footage available. |

Where is N-gage in the list?
I'll go for Nintendo now. |
Nintendo turned E3 upside down with their conference. Then, they come out after the fact and show off Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So, it's obvious that they are the front-runners right now. Sony's 15 min MGS4 was better than Microsoft's entire conference, so that puts them in second place easily. It seems as though Nintendo learned from the mistakes they made last year.
|
I'm looking forward to a ton of ps2 games coming out by the end of the year. I could care less for the next gen stuff at this point. PS3 had some neat videos, especially that Heavenly Sword game which I will most likely buy. I did laugh out loud though when they showed the PS3 controller's tilt action. Watch them add a speaker to the controller too by its November release. I'm pretty sure I'll buy a PS3 because of its abilities and a majority of my favorite developers will put their games on it.
The Nintendo Wii looks very impressive and fun, though I'm not sure if that is the style in which I'd like to play my games. I'll have to wait until I try it out for myself before I buy one. I could pretty much call the line-up of games, though. Most people probably knew they would consist of upgraded gamecube games with a new control method. The only game I'm interested in is Zelda, and luckily if the new control system bugs me I can still buy the gamecube version and enjoy it like I did OoT. As for Microsoft, I didn't bother watching their show. They always seem very boring to me. So I'd say it was between Sony and Nintendo. |
Nintendo by far. They proved that Wii is a very viable choice for the average consumer, we got the new Super Smash Bros (with Snake!!!), new Zelda, new Metroid, new Mario, new Yoshi's Island, new Starfox, Retro Controller (I hate the stupid GC controller), new innovative speaker on the controller + rumble + motion detection on both parts of the nunchaku, and all of this is rounded out with a very strong lineup for the DS. Their presentation was also very well planned and it was no bullshit.
Microsoft's strong points were Halo 3 and Gears of War, but we all knew they would be there going in. GTA4 was a good surprise, but it's not an Xbox exclusive, and this "Live anywhere" thing doesn't impress me in the least. Another DoA Xtreme over Ninja Gaiden 2? Come on... Sony had a solid presentation but it really only had two noteworthy games: MGS4 and FFXIII. This plus a high pricepoint and "Mii-too" controller really killed it for me. I don't care about Blue-Ray movies, why must I pay so much? The PSP lineup was ok, but nowhere near as exciting as the DS one. |
I kinda got bored halfway through the Sony conference. Microsoft's was alright, of course like everyone else, Halo 3 got me excited.
I gotta give it to Nintendo. It's been a while since Nintendo has caused such a stur in the gaming world. If Ninny plays their cards right, they could very well relive the NES/SNES glory days.. |
Can't a guy make a poll around here without a mod rigging it.
|
My vote went to Nintendo. They are simple just stealing the show. The Xbox 360 doesn't really have anything impressive and the PS3 has only really caught my attention with FF XIII and Metal Gear Sold 4.
|
Not want to cause a flame war, but I was wondering; why some people think that GEARS OF WAR isn't impressive. I know that gameplay-wise, it may not be their cup-o'-tea, but have any of you took a look at the demo from E3?
My god, it's KILLZONE 2 but in polygons! |
I feel a bit weird voting on a poll like this before E3 is wrapped up and over, but so far, it's Nintendo hands down.
MS had some pretty awsome looking games. FFXIII and MGS4 were the only pleasing things that Sony showed. Everything else they revealed was either hypocritical (WE'RE ABOUT NO GIMMICKS...HEY! LOOK! NEW EYETOY! NEW RIDGE-RACE VIEW ON PSP! WIIMOTE RIP-OFF!) or just plain craptacular (PS3 price). Unless MS and Sony still have something HUGE to reveal, Nintendo has pretty much blown them outta the water at this year's show. |

I'm not really that impressed by any of them. They all showed more or less what I was expecting. I was a bit surprised by the quality of the graphics displayed during the Sony event though. Some of that stuff was crazy.

Why the hell don't people make the polls public anyway. Then at least people wouldn't have to be in denial when they see a poll that has clearly been manipulated.

Nintendo had the best presentation, so I voted for them. However, I'm more impressed with the games for PS3. As 'revolutionary' as the Wii is, MGS kicks its ass quite thoroughly.

Since Nintendo "won" and all does this mean their new console will actually get supported? I mean can I expect more than 5 games to be released for it? Actually I could give a flying crap about Wii. The only thing I care about is Twilight Princess and that will play just fine on my Gamecube. Although the best news from Nintendo was the unveiling of a functional controller. Yes not everyone wants to look like a young child with down syndrom while playing their videogames.
http://media.revolution.ign.com/medi...g_3556221.html On principle alone I refuse to use that ridiculous controller. The dude playing Metroid 3 actually did a bulletime "John Woo" sideways lunge at one point. I'm thinking at this point if the videogame industry crashed it would actually be a saving grace. |

Oh no why not just make fun of Aardvark for his only PC vote or for the people who voted for what was clearly the worst of E3 (sony) I mean the post was just worthless, and now this one is stooping toward worthlessness as well. |
Probably because a vote for what I'm going to assume was most likely Spore if you pay more attention to PC gaming and not console gaming makes sense. I dunno. Why don't you ask Aardark if you think it's so important? =/

This poll only proves that some here are full of shit. I don't like Nintendo or Microsoft and I can objectively say that Nintendo won the show with MS finishing in a close 2nd. What did Sony have aside from MGS4? If anything they proved to be full of BS in last year's E3 cause I don't see their killer ap, KillZone, anywhere on the show floor. Didn't they claim that to be real-time gameplay? Lol, ok.. WHATEVER.
|
Here's another post without reading context.
XBox didn't exactly wow me, but I didn't expect it to. I'm not too much of a sucker for game demos at E3. Sony maanged to completely lose my interest in the PS3 with that ridiculous price tag. Honestly, do you REALLY think enoguh people can afford $600 to justify the price? Nintendo, however, got my complete attention with their Wii stuff. I don't care what the price is, since I've heard it's $300 or less, I just care about that there are GAMES now that we can judge the Wii remote's gameplay with, and god damnit, the games look interesting. Since the controller came out I knew it all hinged on bringing the right games out for it, and that's where Nintendo got my attention. I won't be getting a PS3 until it drops. A lot. Not even when Final Fantasy XIII comes out. Now that I think about it, I got both Sony systems 2-3 years after they came out anyway. So I might as well keep the streak going. Wii wins E3, in my opinion. |
Who's the 3rd Microsoft voter? Own up. :D
For the 14 of you who missed the Nintendo conference, it should be up for download at Gamespot now. EDIT: I agree that the Sony showing was the worst, that's painfully obvious, but Sony will always have its supporters who vote for them no matter what. |

There could be a fucking football game on PC, a genre I haven't the slightest interest in, the sole game on show for the PC, and it would still be more worthy of attention than the contrived bullshit-circus that is the console exhibits. |
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2374
Tell me this poll is rigged as well Tuberacer |
If I had to rank the three (which is a bit silly), I would say:
Nintendo Microsoft Sony Sony loses huge points for having that crash during a demo. I'm sorry, but that's just pathetic. Also, what's up with the crippled PS3? I was reading an article about how they had to play defense the rest of the show over that, which is bad for them; E3 when you get great soundbytes out about how awesome your console is, and having to constantly try to rationalize their (idiotic) decision hurts them. Microsoft, well, I'm kind of excited about a lot of the new 360 games coming out, but not a whole lot of them are coming from MS itself. Yeah, sure, Halol 3, etc. I'll probably play it, why lie. But I'm mostly interested in puzzle, adventure and platformer games. The 360 seem to have mostly FPSes and sports games at this point, which isn't enough to get me excited about a console, especially one that costs $450. Once the price comes down, and some more games come out, I'll consider getting one. I'm very interested to see how the new XBL is (I have a hugebox and Live for it). I'm going to consider the DS separately from the Wii, because, well, I'm that excited about the DS. Over 100 titles coming out for it, which is insanely awesome. Lots of ports of N64 games, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since the N64 games were awesome in the first place. Despite this, there are still some great new games coming out (Hotel Dusk 215, for example). I'm having a blast playing Metroid Prime Hun Now, The Wii. Ahh, the Wii. What to say? What I've been reading so far can be summarized thusly: 1. The graphics are better than the Gamecube (makes sense, Broadway is supposedly the GC hardware but printed with a 90nm process instead of a 180nm one, which would give them about a 2x perf boost and drop their power requirements a bit). 2. The controller is not quite done, especially on the software side. This is completely understandable. The remote is a brand new control scheme, it's going to be tricky for developers to get things right. I'm sure heavy playtesting is going on as we speak, and control input is being heavily tweaked. Remember, these games at E3 are not finished products. Also, I'd like to point out that on the show floor, there are many, many remotes, and many people moving around, which might interfere with the sensor a bit. It certainly wouldn't help. Now, I have a bit of a Nintendo bias, but at this point, I'm having the most fun playing games on my DS, and I'm most excited about the titles coming out for it. I've tried to be fair, but I'm only human. |
Microsoft had to be second. The only thing they had to offer were games, and they still pulled it off. If not first, then second, because they have a great line up of games coming out this year, and early '07.
But holy crap, Nintendo. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, horray for the underdogs. |

But factoring in 30% of GFAQS are still playing FF7 the figure is closer to 80%

Wii stole E3, in my book, but I can't stress enough how freakin' cool the 360's line-up this year it's mind-blowing!
Dead Rising, Table Tennis, Gears of War, Too Human, Rainbow Six Vegas (Have you seen the videos?!!), Splinter Cell 4, Sonic, Stranglehold, Haze, Crackdown, Saints Row and more! Wow. |
Too bad Rainbow Six Vegas, SC4, Sonic, and Stranglehold aren't exclusive, just off the top of my head.

Yeah, i voted a few days ago, i just hadn't seen the Microsoft press thingy until now.
Nintendo blew me away with the Wii, and the countless new games coming for the DS. Wii looks to be ten kinds of promising with all the title announced, and the motion sensing tech looks great. I hope it lives up to itself. Sony was next for me. For Sony and Microsoft, it came down to the games for me. For X360, i saw mostly FPS, and the like. Those don't interest me as much as RPGs and whatnot. Microsoft comes in third for me, for the reasons listed under Sony, and cause i'm biased. |
My vote has to go to Nintendo. I've been increasingly loosing interest in videogames but the Wii has been able to get me back in that fanboy mentality.
|
I just feel Nintendo/Microsoft could have done more. Isn't there another event after E3?

I was impressed with Nintendo's performance, like many others. I'm psyched for the Wii now, can't wait to get one.
Although I did love the Spore presentation. I also can't wait to get that, despite how it'll murder my computer in terms of required specs. |
Yeah, the only thing Nintendo really lacked was concrete details about the system and various things. They wanted to use E3 as a chance to just have people play the system and not worry about those things. I'm sure they'll reveal that information over the summer and at other events.
|
Doubt it. They'll never admit how underpowered it it.
|
Rab, I don't mean system specs. I meant like the pricetag, release date, games at launch, virtual console pricing, system OS, flash memory, external storage versatility, online plan, etc. Those things are still not settled and I expect to hear about them in the future. I'll need to know these things to prepare for launch.
|
They probably won't announce anything until TGS, unless they bring back Space World (pfft). I'm definitely going to get one, but as it stands I'm just going to get Zelda, and maybe Crystal Chronicles GC.
|
Nintendo. Haven’t been this excited about a new console… since ever? The vibe I’m getting is it’s going to be fun, fresh and open doors that don’t even exist yet. Seeing as I’ve virtually skipped over the last generation of home console gaming, the graphical discrepancy isn’t going to make any difference to me (my poor eyesight withstanding).
