Sony Press Conference (discussion and live stream)
Okay guys since it was asked to split the Sony Press Conference discussion away from the PS3 thread we'll have it in here.
http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3live.html Go there to watch it streamed for free. Right now they're playing music because it's behind schedule but it'll start soon hopefully. Once this is over keep any discussion of how they handled the conference and any pluses and minuses and stuff in here and discussion of the PS3 in the PS3 thread. Enjoy! =D |
Thank you acer.
Its started, well the sound has. |
Started!
can we argue about the selection of music ?? Come on, Sean Paul.... it deserves to be shot.
GO GO GO!
Yup just started. Uh wait.. what happened to the video? It's the logo again.
WTF? He's tlaking but no picture!!!
Started but.. no video ? Is anyone else getting any video?
EDIT: Nevermind, there's the video. |
I don't see anything except the PS logo
no video here. only ps logo.
Quote:
LoL is this what they meant by live coverage.
A PS logo speaking to me. EDIT: Now I have picture buts its frozen, nothing like a pink shirt. |
Green Logo. WOOOOOO
Video started!
Finally!
got video... then it died :(
XD ken in a pink shirt!
Oh, he just said they're not interested in gimmicks. Burn.
Oh snap THEY AREN'T INTERESTED IN GIMMICKS.
HE'S ON!
servers = raped :biggrin:
Haha! Every 3 seconds. BUFFERING.
GREEN SCREEN !!
Mm. This is good.
its a green monster!!!!!
Quote:
Hurray for lag. =/
The stream died for me. :(
"STOPPED"
NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo |
As mentioned before text feed here http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64373
The Gamespot data center is on fire I tell you now. |
works fine for me
Is anyone actually getting a feed where it doesn't buffer every 10 seconds?
press PLay again. It stopped but it continues to stream.
Well, hundreds of people are pretty much ass-ramming the server now so...
Running fairly smoothly here via GameSpot's 100k stream. Haha awesome, another ATV game for PS2. Who needs PS3 now? Another bloody ATV game!
Quote:
TALKMAN WOOHOO. What the fuck.
Working as smooth as a baboon's bottom now. (300k)
Boy he looks nervous or what (he's stuttering a little, not surprised). Double Post: "When I play games I become a monkey" Seriously what? |
if you become a monkey by playing video games, you are playing too much. or not enough.
What is this stuff? Shitty Sony worldwide PR crap. Let's stroke our ego over and over. Waste of time.
SONY'S NOT ABOUT GIMMICKS.
We're also turning the PSP into a gimmick-free camera, phone and GPS locator. |
Quote:
If only that guy knew what he was doing.... |
Urgh why are they still using the spiderman logo?
Thank god, finally they get to the damn PS3. Give us the price already. We've seen the stats.
I can't beleive they didn't go to Canada with those interviews.
15,000 titles??
Yeah right, I can just see all the firmware updates to make the PS1/PS2 games work properly. HAHA quote of the week Quote:
EDIT: Black looks nice. |
STATS, STATS, AUTO-FELATIO.
FreakingA. I want the price and release date already. |
OLD NEWS.....
Works FINE for me! yay.
I bet they don't reveal the price.
Why did they have to start with GT4:HD. |
OK so HDD confirmed to be outta the box. I wish he confirmed that ti'll also be 60 gigs though.
Yay stream got BETTER.
So far the best quote was WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN GIMMICKS. |
Anyone elses feed die?!
Double Post: did I just miss GT5 video?! |
so basically Phil was there to present someone else...
Quote:
That Gran Turismo demo looks hardly impressive. =\
It's still going on Dayvon. |
Phil is our friend, friend to all. Gran Turismo HD looks like Gran Turismo 3 Panasonic 48cm TV-D. Scooters are an awesome addition though!
Anyone else find this demo a bit boring?
Quote:
Quote:
But I guess it's just to show off the HD stuff. |
Quote:
XD. I love how they showed the 4:3 aspect ration in like a SUPER SMALL THUMBNAIL. I mean yeah, 16:9 is bigger but not THAT MUCH bigger.
Enough with GT. Show me something interesting.
Oh God no they are going to show us all 4 tracks.
OK. This just officialy got old. NEXT DEMO!
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP LOOP LOOP LOOP
Why are people standing in the middle of the road in the Grand Canyon track?
Sigh...I wish I gave a crap about Gran Turismo...was more of a Ridge Racer player. And that horn noise in the Grand Canyon track is getting irritating.
That last track was nice. But come ON.
Quote:
Because people do that during Rally Races. |
Christ this is dull!
Is this just me or does this seem "blah blah blah"?
I like how there are no dust particles or anything at all. Give us some fucking weather or something. GT4 looks as boring and lifeless like it always has. Moving on.
LoL pokemon cards??
One for the Yu-gi-oh fanboys. God that looked shit, is that their idea of humor?? |
You guys just don't get it. If you had a 5.1 sound system, that honk honk honk hooooonk would sound amazing.
It's like the high definition of audio! |
No gimmiks + Eyetoy = Lying
Just what we needed: virtual reality Yu-Gi-Oh.
YU-GI-OH WANNABE
Hahahaha, Eye Toy card battles. Guess this confirms seven hundred Yu-Gi-Oh games at launch.
CHOCOBO KILL 'EM ALL.
Haha the duck! ='D
Actually, I found the yugioh thing kind of neat. That duck was kind of funny too. :P
DUCK FLAMETHROWER GO |
ROFL BATHTUB DUCK!
I guess Sony's take a page outta Nintendo's book with more eyetoy options. |
.. MySpace for PS3. I LIKE WHERE THIS IS GOING.
"free.. of charge"... haha no reaction
Free of charge??
I refuse to believe that, there has to be a catch somewhere besides from the downloadable content. HAHAH LOL RIIIIIDGE RACEEEEEER Nobody else cheered. Emulator sweet, new life for my psp. |
Ahaha PSone emulation. "RIIIIDGE RACER, REMEMBER THAT ONE?" Of course I don't Mr. Sony! 1995 was a long, long time ago!
Is he seriously going to play a PS One game onstage right now? In the middle of the PS3 introduction to the world...
Ridge racer. Huh. |
"HEY SUCKERS ! YOU'RE GONNA BUY EXTRA SUPERFLUOUS STUFFS FROM THE SHOP. MORE MONEY FOR US."
Double Post: ALMOST SELECTED GEORGE MICHAEL X_X |
I actually remember that Ridge Racer. And even thought we need to fork out money for the downloads at least we get that cool looking card.
PS3 = Kareoke machine now? |
The controllers look just like the PS2 one's in silver, I sure hope they are PS2 controllers and not the new PS3 one's.
Better than what he selected now!
I have to admit, that interface looks kind of nice. Though, I'm kinda iffy on the whole shop through your ps3 thing. If I wanted to do that i would uh.. go use my pc.
Is it just me or are all those controllers on the wall that they are demoing the PS3 games with just normal Dual Shock controllers? Does that tell us anything?
So, for those of you who arent watching the live stream, they are doing a worldwide launch in Early November. Also, a hard drive is going to be included with every system. Still awaiting to hear how much it is going to cost, but I doubt its coming. I almost feel like im watching an infomercial
Quote:
OH LAG IN THE DEMO
That Japan feudel game looks poo too.
Those look like normal PS2 Dual shock controllers. An improvement from the bat/boomberang controller showed last time?
Giant Crab !!! lets flip it ovER! woot. Weak points for extra damage, revolutionary idea... only doable on the PS3, right. |
he sucks at his own game.
I didn't mind the boomerang, I thought it looked really sleek and modern.
These demos suck.
Wow, in ancient Japan they had robotic crabs and real-time weapon and character switching in actual famous battles? I never would have known! Thanks Genji 2!
HISTORICAL. BIG CRAB. REALISTIC. I MISSED THAT TIME.
Wow, those enemies are pretty much just standing around waiting to be hit...
Well that was another yawner.
Ugh, that demo of Genji just proves that good graphics don't make a good game.
LOL WTF why would I want to use my PSP as a wing mirror, most stupidest thing ever. LOL he didn't even show F1 2006 properly, maybe because it looked shit.
More cars? -_-
Ah, okay, this is more like it...Heavenly Sword... |
Quote:
So that you can attempt to hold the PSP in one hand, while using the other to control the game with the PS3 controler. =/ WTF? "No gimmicks" ey Sony? |
Okay this gladiator demo looks better.
PSP can how be used as rear view mirror! talk about PSP utility.
These games better look astronomically better than this video feed........
okay this current game looks good. And fucking OUCH she sliced right into his damn crotch.
Right in the crotch.
That gladiator game looks pretty good but its animations don't seem quite so revultionary considering God of War's animations.
FLYing HAt of DOOM! FTW |
Eat your heart out, God of War.
Quote:
Looks pretty awesome in a gigantic scripted event kinda way. =o
So... Heavenly Sword is basically God of War with HDR lighting.
That hack n slash looks decent but too much glow, haha OddJob hat trick.
pres butan get action sequence! I doubt he was in full control of all of that.
Wow that dragon game looks kinda cool.
Dragons.... HELL YEAH!!
Urgh WTF? Lag's acting up again.
________________________________ LAIR looked awsome. Oh yay Hot Shots Golf? :) |
Quick question how long is the conference anybody know??
Zoo Tycoon? Safari Tycoon? Lion King HD? wtf?
We better get to kill those animals on that safari game.
AFRIKA!!! =D
It looks great but I wonder what the hell you actually do in the game. |
AFRIKA.
What is it ? A RPG ? |
Hello Mario Golf rip-off.
Hot Shot is not a Mario Golf rip-off
I see guns, fast cars, shooting out of car windows, a broken lighter, so whats so revolutionary?
Monster/Mother Kingdom looked kick ass.
seems like an interactive movie.
And after all that they set the fuel truck ablaze anyways....
Quote:
God damn I hate these next-gen shadows. Everything looks black. Stupid DOOM3 engine. |
Seems like an odd rail shooter almost. Cool action though. I still wonder how much of this is prerendered.
Exxxtreme Pitfall.
Tomb Raider Clone actually looks quite nice.
Oh wow, I just completely lost the feed!
emo kid in the jungle
Quite the departure for Naughty Dog.
That Tomb Raider like game needs more oversized boobs.
I won't move, he's gonna hit me with his elbow.. Hurry up I need to crap.
Save mankind from aliens, where have I heard this before?
Double Post: At least the action in the game looks fast and solid. |
Quote:
Save mankind from demons, aliens, whatever. It ain't new anymore and nobody who has done it recently thought of it first. EDIT: This looks hot. |
Boring FPS.
So is Resistance the first PS3 game to actually show gameplay? ='D
This is the first time I'm impressed by a 1st person shooter.
I hate FPS games >____>
I love how the guy's like "It's not just another World War II shooter! It has aliens!"
Looked a little boring though
Nevermind, it got better after 10 seconds. Not bad.
Hey great, another FPS.
BORING. Show the new controller, damn it. |
GUNDAMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I haven't played a Gundam game in years, this could be good. |
They're already shown it in shots and slides online. It's just a wireless Dual Shock 2 with triggers. For the most part, I would've preferred fucking slides. This has been pretty boring so far.
Oh, and nice turn out from Insomniac and Naughty Dog. Not like I was expecting utter shit from them, given the games they've made this gen. |
Coded Arms Assault ? Cool. I think I was the only one that enjoys the PSP game.
Hmmmm no RPGs yet.
Quote:
More ridge racer, more Brothers in arms, and more Tekken, with bikes this time around, and more Sonic.
Tekken looks terrible, Virtua Fighter looks better.
Meh Sonic....not sure how I feel about it.
Good to see the Virtua Tennis series is alive and kicking. So far so good Sony.
If they can reproduce the awesome that was Ridge Racer 4 then I'll love Namco all over again. |
NOOOOOOOOOO COMMUNICATION LOST
Hmm that new racing game fomr Koei seems kinda neat.
Say did my video feed just stop? |
Quote:
PICTURE GONE NOOO I WANTED TO SEE RE5
Bah its stopped again.
hurray everyone's lost connection =)
FEED DIED.
Good job GameSpot! Black screen. Black 2 for PS3 confirmed.
For some reason, when I see these games I want to go eat beef jerky and pump iron. You know, manly things that are cool. And manly.
SHOW ME SOMETHING NEW SONY. This shit is pathetic. Am I the only one not impressed by this conference? |
URGH WTF connection gone!
Sprouticus, we're hoping that something of substance will be shown still. Oh God, sports games. Woohoo. =/. Where's the real PS3 info? Where's the price, release date, HDD's capacity, etc.? |
Well I was able to connect again, though it's extremely laggy.
HUGE POWER FAILURE AT E3 LOLOL
mine's gone too.
But u gotta luv trying to look at the systems graphix over one of the most poorly compressed videos. EDIT: Back on |
this is ridiculous
MUST COMPLAIN UNTIL THIS IS FIXED.
Quote:
Blah, maybe this is what he meant when he said "...the last game for this segment..." intermission maybe?
Maybe they are showcasing HD and Blu Ray on the PS3 to mimic a black screen
"lookz its so realistic" I expect this same black screen to occur with the 1st batch of PS3s. |
Ok, atleast I'm not the only one.
Getting impatient, come on gamespot... |
Sony needs to take my money now. After I saw Heavenly Sword, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 5, GUNDAM?!?!? Im sold.
Urgh great, another sleep inducing demo.
Wesley Snipes is demoing a game.
Quote:
At least we've seen Sony won't have awful third party support, as usual. So far so good, IMO. |
according to IGN, we haven't missed much.
now they are comparing PS2 and PS3 though |
Quote:
Quote:
Still a black screen for everyone?
what? it's back on ? not for me :(
It's back now.
Holy crap. NBA Liva 07 looked ridiculous (just tuned in now...).
Quote:
Wesley Snipes? Well, better him than someone not cool and in touch with what's cool.
All I see is black... Could be just an extreme close up on Snipes' muscles though |
I don't play sports games, but that demo of realistic foot movement was actually really cool.
That's actually a much better use of powerful processing than just having high polycounts and high resolution textures. |
Close the current video window and go back to Gspot's web page with the link to the live video feed and open up a new window, thats how I got the vid back.
I like how Tiger looks real.
Tiger Woods! in high-def! errrr... anything else other than Tiger talking and chuckling?
LOL LOOK IT'S EMOTION ENGIN ALL OVER AGAIN!
Seriously though, it looked pretty cool. |
Next up, Tiger masturbating IN REAL TIME!
Look a black puppet.
How is Tiger spewing out stupid catch phrases and smiling going to make gameplay better?
Ugh. EA.
I like how he keeps saying "YES".
Woot. EA Montreal is making a game. I should go visit them. They're just down the street from McGill.
Quote:
Quote:
Well his facial expressions looked impressive. I think this'll particularly be benefitial in RPGs...unless it's something that only EA has been able to tap into. Urgh and the EA game video montage needs to end. OH YES SQUARE TIME! |
Medal of Honor looks crazy.
Those 5 second clips of games really make me want to play them. [/scarcasm]
WOO FINAL FANTASY 13.
Another MoH? Another WW2 shooter? When will be done trying to milk cash from the MoH franchise?
Ahh, FFXIII! Goodness.
MGS4!!!! |
Square Enix preview LIKE WUT!
BOOYEAH GRANDMA!
Finally, something about FF13! now this
SOLDIER is having an orgasm right now. :P
Sorry, not realtime.
OH SHIT! if FF13 is really ingame...
GOD FFXIII WAS PURE EYEGASMS!
MGS4! flippin awesome!
WOO METAL GEAR.
MGS4! HELL FUCKNG YES!
BOOYEAH GRANDMA 2.0!!
Another futuristic FF? Meh, atleast it looks nice. I hope the story wont be crappy. I also hope it has alot to do with FF. I'm sure I dont have to remind anyone about spirits within. I know it was a movie.. but still.
Quote:
Double Post: Haha that metal gear crushed all those civilians. |
Metal Gear Evangelion
God Damnit! stupid shit ass resoultion, can't read the subtitles, but that mech plowing through all those people loooked pretty neat.
Raiden is scary looking >.<
Er Raiden looks... what?
LIQUID OCELOT NICE!!
RAIDEN LOOKED ALL SORTS OF KICK ASS! YES!
Yeah, that's the amazing part. I screamed "CG" the instant I saw it the first time, then got larned about the ways of realtime. Finally we get a girly girl instead of a girly man.
And there's like 3 games for FFXIII. One has been worked on by Kitase's team for a while (FFXIII), the second has Nomura working on it (FF versus XIII) and the last one is a mobile game. |
OMG SNAKE OFFED HIMSELF.
Or DID he. |
METAL GEAR! Finally, a real game. GTFO Square-Enix.
Wtf? did snake just put that pistol in his mouth?
Haha, that was genius. |
Game looks good but the trailer was crap.
Congrats. Not showing the end SO WE COULD NOT READ THE SUBTITLE
MGS4 was real time right?
Uh oh, brace yourselves for THE BIG SECRET.
ONE MORE SECRET!
OOOH CONTROLER TIME!
here comes the controller.......
HAHAHAH FUCKING SILENCE CHEAP SILVER PS2 CONTROLLER. |
Oh shit. BIG SECRET. CONTROLLER?
Ahahaha, PRAYSTATION 3. I'm going to hell for laughing at Kens accent.
Wait. What.
Thank god they stuck with the old design for the controller.
LMAO.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the next PS controller* Only a few clap, lol. |
Oh God did they rip off Wii's functionality?
Here comes the "hey Wii we can do what you can do" part...
So much for the boomerang. ;_;
Let the Nintendo ripping off begin. Again. Fucking pathetic.
So they ripped of Wii. Excellent.
I honestly don't know why everyone hated the boomerang so much.
Dualshock + Revolution ripoff is the lamest thing ever. |
At least it doesn't look as horrible as the older controller, but the new funtionality? Sounds kinda like a rip off the Revolution... LAME BULLSHIT!!!
Hahaha GameSpot strikes again!
"HERE'S OUR COOL DEMO, LOOK AT THE SCREEN" *GameSpot camera guy zooms in on Ken's nose hair instead* |
I preffered the Boomerang it looked cool.
WOW I bet it took them months to think of that controller design.... |
Motion control. Yay.
Not a rip off of the Wii because it doesn't use external sensors. |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
Innovation ripped off once again!!!! |
Quote of the moment "I hold it like this, and it FLIES".
Well, so much for the Wii having something Unique. Sony just used it in thier controller. >_>
Wait so what the hell was that??? So it does what Wii's remotes do? It has a gyroscope sensor in it?
Quote:
OH SHIT WARHAWK. |
"The Playstation 3 Success Story"
MY ASS. |
"A truly fantastic revolution for playstation..." yeah, thanks to Nintendo that is.
Wait... It's not the same.
It only detects leaning in all dimensions. NOT movement. |
The guy looks so silly using it.
LOL He looks like a turd playing that game.
Wow, ok, that is beyond fucking pethatic. I guess Nintendo was right about people stealing ideas.
The graphics in Warhawk are awesome.
Yeah, it's half-assed, just like everything Sony does.
What a joke. The control with that looks terrible, they';re basically doing this so people think the Wii does the exact same thing so they dismiss it as a gimmick.
Well at least when I'm playing GT5 (or any racers) when I turn my controller it will actually do something now. Its still a blatant rip off of Nintendo.
Oh shit watching that demo I just realized something. Imagine that in Ace Combat 6.
YOU MUST TWIST THE CONTROLLER AND DODGE THE PLANES IN THE EXTREMELY TIGHT TUNNEL! ENGAGE. |
He doesn't seem to be controlling the flight sim very well with it.
Wow, I honestly feel bad for Nintendo right now. They totally should have waited until this year's E3 to show the remote. |
Pfft he couldn't even land using all the wheels.
He looks retarded playing warhawk.
Stupid Sony. |
Yeah it only controls leaning because that's probebly all they could have done between the time Nintendo unveiled the Wiimote and now!
Are game developers running out of ideas? These games just seem so trite.
"Dont you just love surprises?"
What surprises? |
Quote:
LOL CORE package scenario.
$599 dollars eep. |
Quote:
Breaking news: the PS3 is fucking expensive.
Quote:
500-600$? Yeah, sure Sony. OK. You just fucked yourself over. |
$600 for 60GB PS3. They weren't kidding.
Holy fuck. Europe is raped by the price.
HOLY SHIT! $500 for 20GB HDD model!
Sony = Phail |
SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS AMERICAN THAT IS BASICALLY A LARGE SPIKED DILDO IN THE ASS.
HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
It was fun while it lasted, Sony. Don't let the vault door hit your ass on the way out. |
wow, 20 gig - $499, 60gig - $599. High end of what the analysts predicted, and damn fuck is it expensive.
Thats like £500 for a PS3 judging by the euro price, talk about a kick in the face.
I was quite unimpressed, I was expected more of show but it was boring as hell. When it comes Christmas time those parents will go for the half price 360, $600 dollars is insane. |
Sony just crippled itself. I highly doubt most people will shell out 600 bucks for a gaming console.
Did you guys really expect anything less though? It's got better hardware than the X-Box 360, it's obviously going to cost more.
Can you say "Gaming for the rich and famous!!!!"
I also can't get over how "tacked on" the Wii-esque function of the controler seemed!
What the fuck, I could just buy a cheaper 60GB drive. How do you get 100+ dollars from 20 > 60GB?
Quote:
Quote:
WTF was that. A ripped off controller and now 600bucks to shell for a 7900XT and 60GB......with a Wii modded controller great.....
Wow, it's like that conference was trying to make us avoid the PS3. I wasn't even expecting a price announcement either. Sprouticus got that shit right, they're gone. Even with the hype around this thing, $500 is way too much for what, up until now, as been rather underwhelming.
We can attach our own hdd's right?
I could literally buy three Cambodian sex slaves for $600. Not that I would want to, though.
When did they say that it was going to be released in Canada and the USA?
LOL... and I don't think you can stress this enough...
ITS NOT LIKE THE WII CONTROLLER.!!!!!!!!!!! IT ONLY TILTS!!!!!!!! EDIT: Remember no gimmicks. |
Quote:
That shit looks nasty all flat surfaces and the tree is made up the same way ist was rendered on the second Rouge Squadron for the fucking N64! |
Quote:
Wuah how daunting. Guess I have to wait...wait...wait...until it is drastically cheaper. Heh~
Remember who called it first. Sony is out by 2008.
Half-assed Wii-mote, lackluster games, and a hugh price point = Doom. If Nintendo announces a low price point for the Wii tomorrow (anything under $300 is low at this point), you can all start bowing down to your new gaming new leaders. |
Quote:
exactly its crippled Wii controller. No Depth censor |
You all know that Sony is going to sell out of PS3s very quickly. Why lie.
I just hope their hype + tacked on Wii rip off, won't hurt Nintendo cause they seem to be genuinly exploring all this 4D movement unlike Sony's after-thought like approach to it.
Quote:
Sry about the photos.
The Article was label GTHD, the linked pics were Vision GT. |
Im bitching but i know im still buying and reserving it with a full payment.
Quote:

Ya... I'm not going to buy that system for a long while. I have no intention on blowing $550 + tax on a new game system.
Quote:
Quote:
Of course they're gonna sell-out everywhere for the first few months, but I don't see those sales going strong beyond that with that ridiculous price tag and half-assed controller. I'd like to think that gamers are a little smarter than this.
Quote:
Quote:
The only chance of Sony saving its ass is by releasing the PS3 with quality launch titles. Even then a 499 price tag is going to be a hard sell. But it'll sell nonetheless.
Yeah, it's November 11th for Japan, 17th for everywhere else. Mucknuggle's right, people are gonna want this like a thirsty man wants water.
i always say i wait but im a sucker for games heck i even bought the first Japanese PS2s (bad memorycards) and no i dont like getting PWNED
I have a feeling that even at the insane price, the hype will sell the system.
It'll be interesting to see how well Nintendo does in a completely different price range. |
Only 6 degrees of movement? This motion thing is as restrictive as a fucking DPAD. The ENTIRE POINT of the motion sensing stuff is to add more accuracy, this is hilariously pointless.
I know their strategy. The motion sensing stuff isn't really going to be a big focus of PS3, they just made it tacked on on purpose, so people would see it and say "that's nothing special" and then dismiss Wii as a gimmick because they wont bother to learn more about it. It's pretty genius |
I'm seriously considering reserving a few and then selling them on eBay for mega profit.
Quote:
I don't think many parents would fork out £600 for PS3, they would rather go for the cheaper option the Wii or the 360. |

Everyone's gonna want one. That's true.
I think we all want a Ferrari. I know I do. Then again, I aint buying a ferrari for $100,000 - and I'm not buying a PS3 for $499. |
Also, why are you all saying that the games weren't impressive? What was not impressive about the stuff that they showed? The EA sports titles look ridiculous. All of the games that I saw clips of had crazy graphics as well. I was very impressed by what I saw.
Watch Sony release a better motion sensing controller once it figures out a way to bypass Nintendo's patent.
Quote:
True, there was some crap (SONIC, UGH) but a lot of it looked interesting. |
Quote:
Cue Wii. |

Insomniac and Naughty Dog had great showings though, and Heavenly Sword isn't nothing to blow off. MGS4? Terrific, but not for $499. |
Quote:

Quote:
Besides I expect all the first PS3's to give a permanant black screen of death, judging by Sony's release history. |
Whoa... actually, they'd be more likely to go to the 360, rather than the Wii, since most casuals take games at face value (graphics).

I'm sure you'll have an option not to use motion sensing shit. I do agree, it certainly seems tacked on to one-up Nintendo. But that's a moot point anyhow.

I just hope people will be able to see through it. Because if they don't, it'll derail what can be an amazing new implication on gaming that Nintendo's cooking up... |
Just remember at the end of the day you can use your PSP as a wing mirror, thanks Sony you have finally realised its true potential.
So guys, what about the PSP-PS3 connectivity? Exciting stuff, huh?
The only thing remotley impressive was the card battling game, and that's only from a technological standpoint. It's pretty gimmicky. |

My sentiments exactly. I love how they reveal this to us after ranting on for like 20 minutes about their "NO GIMMIKZZZ WITH US" philosophy. |
Well. Onto afterthoughts.
Pretty much what I expected. High-end PC graphics (and a bit better generally speaking). Check. Same gameplay stuff (not boring, just not "wow"). Check. Gimmicky stuff (Eyetoy specifically, also PSP "rearview mirror", and in-game store to rape my VISA card). Check. Support from all the big money-makers/franchises (EA, SqEnix, Kojima, etc.) Check. VERY high price ($500 minimum). Check. Surprises? Obviously the tilt controller gimmick/ripoff/tacked-on/half-assed thing. Does that sum it up?! |

Why are you complaining about an added feature like the motion sensor? You didn't have it before. So the Wii has something better, that doesn't mean that Sony's thing is useless.

The only thing it can serve for is mess up what Wii has going for it by fooling the general public into going for the PS3, and thus, killing off Wii's attempt which seems infenantly better. |

Graphics = Shrugging of shoulders. PS3 will sell well because of - PlayStation logo - Madden - Square-Enix - Insert other reasons here that I can't predict because it's not due out until November but I'm guessing it'll sell well even though it's six hundred dollars or about eight thousand dollars Australian and also I wonder what will be on the demo disc, hopefully a video of someone falling over that'd be excellent time for lunch! |
If it will be £600 juding by the euro price I could probably pick up a 360 core package and the Wii when it comes out.
British players get raped especially hard due to how weak the dollar is, they usually addon like £200. |
Aside from it being a blatant steal from Nintendo, I have no problems with it. They added the Xbox 360 guide button too, so they stole from both sides, yet the Xbox controller's design originally stole from the Playstation one. Who cares, at the end of the day, I'll probably pick one up anyway.
I just with the price weren't so damn high. Also, the only games that really impressed me was MGS4 & Final Fantasy XIII, and I doubt either will be out on launch. I didn't see any Killzone trailer, so that was disappointing. |

Two questions for you all.....
Wiimote + PS3 controller = lawsuit???? and Did developers know about this new "innovative" controller functionality before today? Because if they did, I don't think anyone would be quite so excited about Wii. Which makes it feel even more like "Me too!! Me too!! I can do that!! Watch me!!" |

I don't venture in here very much, but I'm now suddenly very glad I won my XBox 360. $500 or $600 is FAR too expensive, especially for a ripoff of a system that's bound to be loads cheaper.
I think it was kind of a mistake to suddenly announce the price like that, quickly end the show and run away.
"....And the PS3 will be $600, k thnx bye" |
About the new DualShock, I do recall Phil Harrison saying that there was movement across x,y and z axes. So it isn't quite as limited as some have cried. And how can anyone make comparisons between the PS3 controller and the Wii controller when nobody has viewed the Wii controller in action?
And perhaps I may be playing devil's advocate, but we can't prove 100% Sony ripped off Nintendo. Their projects may have been developed in parallel and independently. We hadn't recieved any word about the controller in a year, and that ws before Wiimote was introduced. I guess the only thing that will settle this is a patent search. |
Quote:
I really think that might happen with this one. Nintendo is AWFUL protective of their intellectual property and patents. They might hit this one head on. Speculation? Yes. Probability? Possibly. __________________________________________________ ___________ EDIT: Saw this posted at IGN. 6:33 -- Kuturagi takes the stage. He introduces the PS3 controlled ... and it's the PS3 controller?!? It looks exactly the same, but it has many new function. Most importantly, it has "6 degrees" of motion-sensing movement. (Um, Nintendo, what do you have to say about this?) You can move it up and down, you have pitch and yaw and roll movement, and it's all still wireless and, in fact, lighter than PS2's DualShock. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/705/705742p1.html Does that clear up the controller movement questions? |
Quote:
Yeah, I would say Sony developing analog control and then force feedback for their controller after the N64 was released was really just a coincidence. Kinda like this whole "free movement" thing.
Seriously can you Wii fans give it a rest, just wait till the Nintendo conference.
Awesomness. The controller looks great; just what I thought they would do with the design. Motion sensing is a nice idea; just like Nintendo, but I doubt it will be put to any good use. Price point is no prob, its a hellva lot cheaper than a $5000 gaming computer. I already have all of the money saved up anyway from not buying a 360. MGS4, and FFXIII look to be the big hooks for the PS3. $500 is really not all that bad, considering all that we are getting for our money. Sony is taking the lose here. If they just keep up with the exclusive games they should have nothing to worry about. All of their fans from the previous systems will defininetly jump aboard. I know I will. PS3 and Wii for me.

Personally, I don't like what Sony did with their "6 degree" controller. Why do you think everybody is getting annoyed over the fact that it's such a blatant rip-off of the Wii remote? Because it's wrong. Because ripping off competitors' hardware capabilities is wrong. Unless you honestly have something to add to the experience, it's just a me-too add on. And not only that, but Sony is being hypocritical! They say "no gimmicks" but then they reveal the "6 degree" controller and the Eyetoy and the likes. It's sick. And this kind of hypocritical behavior is sick and should not be condoned. On a side note... You know, one of your problems, Mucknuggle, is that you defend the PS3 yet you dismiss any responsibility from your words by saying things like this: Quote:

Quote:
Look this isn't about the reasons leading to Nintendo's failure. I'm talking about this case in particular. (I'm sure Nintendo has made a lot of mistakes that harmed them) When it comes down to it, what Sony did here totally comes off as a cheap, rip-off. They copied an idea but are making it available in what seems like a more limited functionality only to shoot back at Nintendo. Unless they have something substantialy new to offer with this whole "free movement" deal, they should not mess with it. |
Nah, you get me wrong, Metal Sphere, the "you" is aimed at a general audience, not specifically you. The joke was the only thing aimed at your comment, everything else was my own opinion. Apologies for the confusion.
Obviously from the linked article (thanks Grubdog!) we can see that the Wii remote and the PS3 controllers are completely different.
PS3 controller detects 2 things in 360 degrees, Acceleration & Tilt Wii controller identifies controller position in 3D space at any given moment. |
The vibration was probably removed because Sony got sued for using the technology. I don't think that they're allowed to use it anymore.

From what I can tell, Gelb-2 is trying to say that the PS3 controller and the Wii Remote have NOTHING (verbatim) in common, while the Technophile is attesting that the PS3 controller's gyroscope functionality is a rip off the Wii Remote because of their similarities.
I'll have to side more strongly with Technophile (though you are now both being shitheads) particularly because of Gelb-2's decided escalation with his "fuck" post, and I can't really tolerate blatantly rampant crude behavior. Secondly, I'd like to point out that the ability to sense in 3 dimensions, regardless of Gyroscopic technology, is SIMILAR in both the Wii Remote and the PS3 controller. Please do not tell me, Gelb, that the two have NOTHING in common. |

Alright, the "ripoff" thing isn't about the exact technology used, it's about the IDEA and DIRECTION behind the alternate gameplay method. The fact that they are copying it is really irrelivant though, what IS relivant is that it's half arsed. They would have been better off not showing such a thing at all, so we'd all be talking about MGS4 instead of Wii.
Overall though, great looking games like MGS4 remain unaffected and awesome. |
1) Technophile, your latest post would be considered antagonizing the Merv.
2) to Merv, Why should it matter who I am? 3) You should CARE because your acting like an immature kid. Seriously, this is the kind of behavior that I am utterly SICK of on these boards. Nobody gives a shit if nobody knows who you are, even if you have something worthwhile to say, then everybody hides and scurries behind the anonymity of "teh internet" because they can't accept responsibility of their actions, and because "it feels so damn good to do whatever the fuck you want". |

The only saving grace for Sony to guarantee a pre-order from me is if they promise tremendous improvement of PS1 and PS2 games in terms of graphics (like some sort of AA and up-converting resolution).
That would at least give me something else to fool around with come launch day (because I'm sure as hell not purchasing a ton of 60 dollar games, I'm waiting for them to be on the "used" shelf). And I HAVE a bigass HDTV set. Even I'M dissapointed in Sony. |
Haha, I'm not even going to wait until launch day myself. I've built up a good 100 game backlog so that I can sit around and bide my time while the first run bugtastic PS3s come out and rape people of their money. I will laugh merrily at their woes when they bitch about DISC READ ERROR IN HIGH DEFINITION and then two years later get me a decently priced near bug free console and some cheap bargain bin games.
Patience wins again. |

I have to agree with you guys, gaming is becoming way too expensive as evidenced by these $400-500 console prices and $60 games.
It's becoming a hobby with budget needs akin to building muscle cars or getting a speed boat for weekend rides down the river. Buying games like FF13 now is looking about as probable as me going down to a Barret Jackson auction and scooping up a '68 Barracuda. And uh, we need to coin a fun nickname for the new PS3 controller. Playmote perhaps? |

I don't even see why all you kids are complaining. Do you really think Sony cares if you think they're ripping off Nintendo? "Oh boy these kids are onto us. We'll have to apologize and redesign the PS3 guys." Furthermore, anyone who is going to buy a PS3 is going to buy one regardless of your meaningless banter. No matter what side it's coming from, it's pretty annoying. |
I make no qualms about it.... I am a Nintendo fan. Always have been, and if they continue as they have been I will continue to be. I write this to give you frame of reference.
But this isn't about Nintendo, or even Sony... This is about games. I have always wanted to buy a PS2. It's got great games, a huge catalog of em (especially if you count PSX games). I've never bought one though because of two reasons. 1. Too much money 2. Graphics that just didn't justify the cost to me. (not that the graphics are crap, just not quite good enough cause I HATE so much aliasing and poor textures) But here is the bottom line: Am I willing to pay this much for these games? The answer is NO. MGS4, FFXIII, and every other third party game will be ported when this thing flops because it is too dang expensive. And I shouldnt say flops because it will have a market. High-end entertainment center hob-nobs. And how big is that market? It's big but not THAT big. I almost guarentee that this thing will sell out of the 400,000-800,000 or so units coming to the US alone for the fact that it is a Bluray player. Remember how people are buying the PSP more for the protable screen (video, audio, net, photoviewer, etc.) than for the games? PS3 repeats this idea. So I won't be buying the PS3. And in fact I have no desire to, unlike with the PS2 at launch. |
Quote:
FUCKING LOL. And I agree we should just call the PS3 controller the PS3 Controller or Dual Shock 3. No gimmicky name schemes, please. |
I don't even see why consoles ripping each other off is anything to bitch about anyway, considering each one pretty much steals from the other whenever they feel like it. PS started using Dualshock, and here comes Nintendo 64 with the Rumble Pack, and hay Microsoft releases with two analogs but ELSEWHERE and then the Saturn releases the controller that comes with Nights and has analog and then THEY ALL HAVE L AND R TRIGGERS and OH LOOK FOUR BUTTONS ARGHARGHARGHARGH.
The games and the total price on the consoles will dictate the necessity for the console. No one cares about stolen technology, as long as it's fun. |
How about taking further PS3 discussion to the PS3 thread so my brain doesn't fry.
