So I guess I have things growing out of my neck.
I was wearing a collared shirt the other day, because I attended a funeral, and I noticed that the collar was irritating a part of my neck. I figured maybe I had gotten a bite or something on it, but when I looked at it, I didn't see any redness or anything...just a little growey. Then I noticed another, and a third on my eyelid.
Now, I understand as you get older you start getting problems with your skin. Moles, liver spots, so on. I just figured at 23, I was a little young to have to go to the doctor to check for skin cancer. It's not like I'm out in the sun all day, either. I'm just constantly awash in the radiating glow of my computer screen. Jesus, I feel old. Anyway! Relate to us your tales of epidermic woe/how you feel older than you should. |
I have a few grey hairs in the front and on the side on my head. And a month or so ago, I pulled a grey from my goatee. I immediately shaved.
|
I'm going deaf in one ear. I know it doesn't measure up to cancer, but I haven't listened to really loud music unless in circumstances where it was unavoidable. You know, like middle school and high school spirit days/assemblies/rallies.

I've been taking karate for years. Well, when I was 19 I started getting this pain in my right knee. I was at college when this happened, so it wasn't an injury (past or present) that I received in karate (unless my sensei is Chuck Norris and it was from the future...ok, that was lame).
The pain would just come and go sometimes, but it was the strongest whenever I climbed up a hill, a set of stairs, or danced. Around March of this year, a girl about 3 years older than me reported the same problem in the same knee and went to Health Services for it. It turned out that it was arthritis. I know that it sounds like it could be other things, but the symptoms matched up PERFECTLY (and there is a history of arthritis in my family and I'm a Capricorn= knee problems if you believe in Astrology). It's crazy b/c no one in my family before now has reported having arthritis at such a young age. I am studying more on homeopedic (sp?) medicine and herbology to see what they have to say about it. Unless something radical happens to alter the course, I'd say it's a safe bet that I'll be diabetic by 40. I'm on official "watch" status now, meaning that I periodically check my blood sugar in the same way that a policeman stops cars to check for current inspection stickers.
35-40 is a little young for adult onset Diabetes. And if it happens, it won't even be true Diabetes. Rather, it'll be the side-effect of another medical condition. This side-effect causes blockage in the pancreatic ducts and reduces the flow of available insulin. It's not that I wouldn't be making insulin; it just won't be able to get where it needs in efficient time. On the plus side, the same medical condition makes me immune to cholesterol, hypertension and most causes of arteriosclerosis, so it's red meat and egg yolks until I die! |
Internet nerds must age fast, or something.

This is very possible.
See you in the creamed corn line, Eleo. |

You've piqued my interest, though. Give me a general idea of what he was talking about. |
My eyes easily beat the prescription of anybody who is over 65 years of age, with a whopping abuse in excess of 10.00+/- (I forgot the exact grade).
Other than that tragic fact, I feel pretty young. |

My lower back has a tendency to bother me, but it's only been noticeable when waking up in the morning or when sitting for too long. I can always count on a few popping sounds while stretching. |
Glasses...and they're really thick but somehow well-disguised with these frames. In the neighbourhood of half a centimetre :(
I'm hoping for some gray hair to match ;) |
I am starting to see laugh lines on my face. They're really not wrinkles or anything, but there are more emphasized lines in my face than there once were.
I am fat, and I have pretty healthy skin, though. I still look like I am 16, apparently. But I have some interesting skin developments on my back from a LOT of sunburns in my lifetime. Which makes me a little more concerned about my skin. I have some sun spots on my forearms from sun and some on my chest. I hear they can be indicative of cancer for future reference, but frankly, I won't be getting any biopsies until I am at least 35. |

Basically, he says that the government and doctors are doing what doctors and apothecaries did a long time ago in the Middle Ages. They give us medicines that will cure the symptoms, but doesn't solve the problem and they cause other symptoms to occur so we will spend more money on medicine. Things that were once listed as mild problems are now being called diseases b/c the drug companies have the main responsibility of making more money for their stockholders rather than curing people. He then discusses about how there are natural cures that could cure different diseases but the government doesn't want you to know about it b/c you can't patent an herb. If you find the larger version it lists some natural cures for different ailments, but I haven't tried them. However, it may be a mix of truth and lies. I thought it was interesting reading, but I am still skeptical about it. However, I would still recommend it to at least get a different picture of the world (especially if you are into conspiracy theories :) ). He goes into different details about how chemicals are making us fat in the US and how food has lost a lot of vitamines and how the government has been paid by the FDA to keep hundreds of chemicals under the heading of "natural ingredients". He mentions some things like organic apple cider and grapefruit that can help people lose weight and such in the smaller version; but for the main cures for allergies and such it's in the bigger version. |
when it's going to rain, or there's cold weather, my hip joints and/ knees start aching and i can sympathise with my gran (currently in her 80's, whereas i'm only just starting my 20's) when she complains of the same thing =/

Sometimes my lower back bothers me, but it doesn't happen as often as it used to, and even then I wouldn't say it happened 'often'. The only other thing I've noticed is rather strange to me. You know you sometimes pop stuff in your back or neck or something when you stretch? Well, relatively frequently I get that 'pop' sound and feeling from my sternum--a place I wouldn't really expect to get that. I don't know yet whether or not there's really anything bad associated with that, but it sure seems abnormal to me.

My knee is a very good barometer now, ever since that accident I had while doing that Neo bullet-time impersonation.
Oh, and I get this painful itching/burning in my left ear every time the air pressure changes. That ear also retains water very, very well. |
I was born with a disability that can render the right side of my body weaker than my left at times (weak cerebral palsy) but seemed to have benefitted from it in other places. In 20 years of playing video and PC games, I haven't had the need for contacts or any eyeglasses, but in return I'm rendered immobile at random for about 5-15 minutes at a time due to my condition. A little hard to be active, but I've managed thus far.

from what I understood about what he was saying on the commercial, it was about how basically the FDA passed some law stating that only drugs can cure ailments and they're the only thing that can say what cures what. he went on into this analogy that he can say an orange will prevent and cure scurvy, but it's technically illegal to market an orange as the cure for scurvy due to this law. I think it's just one big SPITE THE FDA type book, but apparently it's full of cures and preventions for diseases, so if anything it should prove to be interesting read. |
Lessee...
- Knee trouble and lack of feeling in right leg - Left hand is somewhat numb - Back trouble from old injuries. Standing for too long makes it ache like hell - Got some gray hairs coming in, thanks to college <3 - I have about three dozen joint crackings whenever I start moving in the morning after I wake up o_o My brothers believe I'll need a cane by the time I'm 30 at this rate. Time will tell~ |
I got grey hairs. I've had them since my early high school days.
My back just has issues, definitely just from bad posture and heavy backpack wear over the years. I'm always cracking my neck and back and weird ways. It's a bad habit. |
Well I found out through an injury that my right shoulder socket is loosely connected to the rest of my body, as a result of that wierd development and a few injuries sustained because of it my right arm simply cannot do the thing it could do anymore, with my injury/condition any strong sudden movements (such as throwing a ball) will cause pain and quite possibly pulling my arm out of its socket. Really quite annoying, in addition the shoulder makes a poping sound when I move it around sometimes.
Other than that I have a really weak back. Each time I wash the dishes I need to take breaks inbetween to let my back rest a bit. And then when I twist my back in a strech it makes popping noises, although I have to admit it also kind of feels good so I do it about twice a day, I just hope it doesn't add to the problem. |
I have a really high hairline with a widow's peak (think Vegeta but not as sharp a peak,) so everyone thinks I'm balding, which is annoying. I also have a very minor (as in, it's just there, but has no side effects) skin condition called "Goose Flesh" (most certainly not the medical name) where my upper arms and legs (a little on my back) looks like I'm covered in small, concentrated pimples. I've had them since I was a kid. They're not that big of a deal, but people either think they're zits, or ingrown hairs, which they are neither. However, they've been fading since I started losing weight, which is really good.

Getting older is kinda tricky.....but hey we all gotta do it.

I developped tinnitus in both ears back in my old metal drumming days. This results in permanent ringing in both of my ears, kind of like that high-pitched TV screen noise.
I've gotten used to it so it's not much of a burden anymore in itself; however, my ears seem to have gotten a bit sensitive because of this. Exposure to noise and music beyond a certain level of loudness (especially anything involving cymbals) will inevitably result in pain and headaches, and temporarily make the ringing louder. I can live with it, I just hope it doesn't get worse. Don't wanna end up deaf at a young age. Also, I have developped tendinitis in both hands, and early stages of it in my elbows. It's supposed to go away with time but it's been well over two years and nothing has helped. I'm not *constantly* in pain but it's very easily triggered and it will take a good night's sleep to go away. These two conditions are a bit crippling when you're a pianist. |
The only thing I can think of is my eczema, which, when it gets into full sway, makes me look like I have the hands of a seventy-year old. And irritates like fuck in hot weather >.<

And putting herbal remedies and the like through medical trials is inadvisable, because you're not testing one single pure substance. If one of these remedies has interactions with certain people, it's impossible to tell if it was the active chemical, or something else in the herb that triggered a reaction. That's why medical testing comes in the form of one single substance extracted from an herbal remedy, so that there's no other factors screwing up the testing. It's little more than paranoid conspiracy theories by whackos with an irrational fear of doctors. Baseline education on the subject pretty much shoots down every single accusation by these quacks. Oh right, the original topic. Me? I've noticed my hairline is gradually receeding. I'm still awfully young to be going bald like this, so it's a little unnerving. Still, I've resolved to bald gracefully. No combovers for me; when it gets too thin, I'm just going to shave it all off and be done with it. |

Also I'm slowly going blind. AWESOME. |
I frequently get insanely sharp pains that last for at least 15 minutes, and anywhere up to an entire day in my legs or the bottom of my back. It's like growing pains, only as I'm 19 and I haven't gained any height in a couple years at least, I highly doubt its that. But anyway they make me walk like a cripple =/.

Hi our lives are too short. It will do you good if you read up more on health and your body.
A personal tips from me: Eat raw pumpkin seeds everyday. Pumpkin Seeds contain iron, B vitamins, and trace minerals. It is also a natural source of magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, zinc, vitamin A, and vitamin C. The benefits of eating nuts and seeds are a lot. |

Thanks for the pumpkin seed suggestion. If I can find some I'll try to test it out. Also, taking 2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar before every meal (or using it instead of dressing on salads) is suppose to help break down food better and help in weight lost. |

Anyways, i have a pretty fucked up left foot and im only 20. I had a really rare disorder that cause several bones to fuse in my ankle. Basically i can't move my ankle left or right. This causes me to constantly step on it wrong which is leading to authritus. It sucks because sports are pretty much out of the question now, but I'll live. |

Indeed, the Internet has many contradicting articles. What I usually do is to surf more and compare/eliminate. Real articles are more than fake ones. If 9 articles say pumpkin seeds is good and 1 article says seeds is bad. We will know who's lying. Double Post: For people who excercises regularly.. say 3 times a week or 5 times a week. It is advisable to consume more vitamin C. When we excercise, our body produces 'free radicals'. In the long term, 'free radicals' cause cancer. However it doesn't affect most of us because most of the time we unknowingly had enough vitamin C (from fruits, etc) to clean up the 'free radicals'. |
hm not going blind or anything yet ~knocks on wood~ but i do have insane leg problems from all the years of hockey...inwhich if lets say i pick up a good size box..nothing heavy in it..i'll either
1. fall down because my leg gives out 2. drop the box 3. fall and still hold onto the box which gets ugly i have no clue why it does this but it does also ive had about 15-20 concussions in hte last 4-5 years so i get headaches REALLY quick from anything and everything |
By the way.. this is something not found scientifically in books:
To get better skin complexion, we should sleep from 12 midnight to 6 morning. This is because the moonlight has special energies to repair our skin. The Asians believed in this. |
My grandmother had Melanoma, and I have had various nevi removed for being precancerous. I had one removed at 12, 15, and my latest was 19. I haven't been checked in years, but a small 3-4mm portion of my skin lost all pigment about 6 months ago, oddly. The only real thing I could get from searching online was Vitiligo, but yet it isn't. Vitiligo typically occurs over large portions of the body or arms, not in the small location I have it in. I will be going to the dermatologist soon, better safe than sorry.
I also get some cherry angiomas, which are benign, small red dots. I also get eczema in the Winter, due to the dry weather. I stay in good shape too! Some people like me are just unlucky. I think the things you are talking about are skin tags. |
