favourite movie quotes

I'm not sure how well this thread did before the crash, but I figured why not give it another try. just post your favourite quotes, try to list the movie and the character [or actor] that says it and if perchance you feel like it, explain why it's your favourite.

to get things going, these are the first two quotes that come to mind that really stuck with me:

Quote:

"Lena. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I left you at the hospital. I called a phone-sex line... I called a phone-sex line before I met you, and four blond brothers came after me and they hurt you, and I'm sorry. Then I had to leave again because I wanted to make sure you never got hurt again. And I have a lot of puddings, and in six to eight weeks it can be redeemed. So if you could just give me that much time, I think I can get enough mileage to go with you wherever you go if you have to travel for your work. Because I don't ever want to be anywhere without you. So could you just let me redeem the mileage?" - Barry Egan [Adam Sandler] from Punch Drunk Love
it's quite simply one of, if not the best apologies/I-love-you's I've ever heard in a film. I thought it was wonderful.

and the second:
Quote:

"One shouldn't be too hard on oneself when the object of one's affection returns the favor with rather less enthusiasm than one might have hoped." - Rodney Fraser [Nigel Hawthorne] from The Object of My Affection
I always liked this quote, simply because I'm sure we've all been there, but that is just a damn fine eloquent way of putting it. too bad the rest of the film wasn't quite so great.

"Have you tried NOT being a mutant?"--Mrs. Drake (X-Men 2: X-Men United) It's just so silly, yet I can imagine someone actually saying it.

"Anonymity is the mutant's first defense against the world's hostility"--Professor Charles Francis Xavier (X-Men). It reminds me a lot about real life and my favorite non-movie quote.

I'll post more later when I can think more clearly.

THAT'S RIGHT...ICE...MAN.

I AM DANGEROUS.

"I can safely say that I don't have any interest in Lindsay Lohan...nor do I understand anyone else that does." - Nick Lachey

It's not a movie quote per se, but it's so damn true.

Night Phoenix May 5, 2006 12:35 AM

"I'm a world class assassin, fuckhead."

Fire On Ice May 5, 2006 12:41 AM

"Any zombies out there?"
"don't say that"
"What?"
"that"
"What?"
"That. The Z word. Don't say it!"
"why not?"
"Because it's rediculous!"
"Alright then....are there any out there though?"
"I don't think so...oh, no, there they are"
~ Shaun and Ed from Shaun of the Dead

I always liked the part in Shaun of the Dead when they were throwing records at the zombies in the backyard. I love that movie.

"...the Batman Soundtrack"
"Throw it."
...
"Alright, fuck this I'm going to the shed."
"I thought you said it was closed!"

GAH! "I'vehaditwiththesemotherfuckingsnakes!"

There, I said it.

"Get away from her you BITCH!" - Ripley in Aliens.

That's so awesome when she goes up against the Xenomorph Queen and gets all bad ass on her. She overcomes her fears by facing them directly. Quite a fine piece of cinema.

evergreen May 5, 2006 03:46 AM

"I'm not your fucking mommy!" - Mom in The Ring 2

This, on the other hand, is not cinema, but it was a priceless moment in what was a really disappointing sequel.

WolfDemon May 5, 2006 04:22 AM

"I don't dodge guilt. And I don't jew out of paying my come uppance. That woman deserves her revenge. And...we deserve to die." - Budd, Kill Bill Vol. 2

My favorite line out of the two movies. Budd knows they fucked up when they nearly killed the Bride, and he's ready to get what's coming to him. I'd think of something else, but it's 4:30 in the morning. Sleep time.

"Who are you? Do you have a wife? A girlfriend? Whoever she is, I'm gonna find her. I'm gonna hurt her. And then I'm going to kill you right in front of her." - Capote

actually that was "Owen Davian" from Mission Impossible 3. same guy who played Capote, yes, but most definitely not the same movie.

Alice May 5, 2006 09:10 AM

"I'm your huckleberry" from Tombstone is my number one favorite, followed closely by "That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten" from Pulp Fiction (The Wolf).

There are so many more, but I felt like I should narrow it down to two.

Twelve Monkeys
----------------
Fale: Then how come she knows what's going on?
Jeffrey Goines: While I was institutionalized, my brain was studied exhaustively in the guise of mental health. I was interrogated, x-rayed, studied thoroughly. Then, everything about me was entered into a computer where they created a model of my mind. Then, using the computer model, they generated every thought I could possibly have in the next, say ten years, which they then filtered through a probability matrix to determine everything I was going to do in that period. So you see, she knew I was going to lead the Army of the Twelve Monkeys into the pages of history before it ever even occurred to me. She knows everything I'm ever going to do before I know it myself. How about that?

The Rock
--------
General Hummel: Put the phone down.
Major Tom Baxter: I'm calling them Frank, I'm asking for more time.
General Hummel: You're being asked by a friend.
[Baxter continues]
General Hummel: You're being ordered by a superior officer.
[Baxter carries on, Hummell draws]
General Hummel: Now you're being given your last chance by a man with a gun.
Baxter: I thought you said you weren't ready to kill.
Hummel: I'm warming up.

Fire On Ice May 5, 2006 11:19 AM

"We can't, they're armed"
"With what?"
"Oh feather dusters, bad breath, colourful language...GUNS YOU TIT!"

- Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

I love sarcasm, and nothing goes better with sarcasm then the threat of firearms.

goldeneye2131 May 5, 2006 12:05 PM

"Yeah? ...and you're ugly." -Ace Ventra [Jim Carrey]
"Stuff probably looks better on the way out..." -Ace Ventura [Jim Carrey]

These two quotes are by far my favorite of all movies, and I use (overuse) them in regular context when speaking to people. Allthough they all come from the first Ace Ventura, the second is however my favorite...every time I watch these movies or hear the quotes, I never fail to find it hilarious.

ROBOTRON May 5, 2006 12:20 PM

"I'll be back" - Arnold in "The Terminator"

No truer or more inspirational words were ever spoken by a robot.

"You got knocked the fuck out!" Can't remember which character, but it was in the first Friday movie. It's one of my more fave qoutes :)

It was Smokey.

Meth May 5, 2006 04:06 PM

"You're a fucking ugly bitch. I want to stab you to death and play around with your blood."

"Not quite blonde, are we? More of a dirty blonde."

"Your compliment was sufficient."

"But 'inside' doesn't matter."

-Patrick Bateman

"Is that a gram?"

"I want to get high off this, not sprinkle it on my fucking Oaties."

"Raised lettering, pale nimbus... white." (In reference to his business card.)

-Timothy Bryce

American Psycho

"Ain't got time to bleed" for Predator.

"...What is best in life?" "To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And hear the lamentation of their women." Conan the Barbarian.

Sure there are lots of more deep and thought provoking quotes out there. But these are the ones that come up and awful lot.

Soldier May 5, 2006 06:22 PM

Sin City

"I love hitmen. You can do whatever you want to them and not feel bad."

"You have every right to be angry with me, Sherry. And I forgive you for that."

"Hi there. I'm Sherry's new boyfriend and I'm completely out of my mind."

That movie had some awesome quotes. I can't believe I haven't bought the DVD yet.

Also, I feel inclined to include my favorite Batman quote of all time. But it doesn't come from a movie, it's from the animated series, after he has the Sewer King (who would abuse and enslave children) just inches away from a moving train.

"I don't pass sentence on people, that's for the jury to decide. But this time....THIS ONE TIME....I am SORELY tempted to do so."

VitaPup May 5, 2006 07:59 PM

"Looky Looky I got Hooky." - Hook

"There are 15 people in this house and you're the only one who has to make trouble." - Home Alone

Rufio for the victory.

I like how this is the biggest image of Rufio I could find.

From Donnie Darko:

Donnie: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why do you wear that stupid man suit?

From Office Space:

One of the Bobs: I see you've been missing a lot of work lately Peter.
Peter: I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob.

I think that line was supposed to parallel a lot of parenst reactions to their kids being gay - "Have you tried not being gay?".

It's still silly, but I can imagine plenty of people saying it.

BucPride May 8, 2006 12:37 AM

From Star Trek : First Contact...

"Riker: Dont try and be a great man just be man and let history make its own judgements.
Cochrane: Who said that?
Riker: You did...ten years from now."

LOL, which is funny b/c I think the actor who plays Bobby Drake has this huge pet peeve about being called gay. He respects gay people, but he get's very mad when called gay.

Krelian May 8, 2006 11:35 AM

"English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?"

Best line in any Tarantino film ever.

edit: Heh, looks like I was beaten to it. Still applies.

Bill Paxton FTW

http://www.alicia-logic.com/capsimag...BillPaxton.jpg

"They're coming outta the walls. They're coming outta the goddamn walls, we're fucked!"

"Well that's great, that's just fuckin' great man. Now what the fuck are we supposed to do? We're in some real pretty shit now man... That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do? "

Bishop: I'm afraid I have some bad news.
Hudson: Well that's a switch.

Vasquez: Anytime, anywhere, man!
Hudson: Right, right. Somebody said "alien" she thought they said "illegal alien" and signed up!
Vasquez: Fuck you, man!
Hudson: Anytime, anywhere.

Hudson: Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
Vasquez: No, have you?

Krelian May 8, 2006 12:37 PM

Actually, I change my vote to "It's a trap!"
