Favourite nut?

My favourite nut is unquestionably the Pistachio nut. It just makes any other nut taste bland in comparison. It is a bit of a novelty the way you break open the already-partially-seperated shells yourself using your thumbs. I've found that, on the contrary to being an annoyance, this method actually works as Pistachio conservation; the moreish effect of the Pistachio taste could perpetuate the uninterrupted eating of them indefinetely, if not for the fact that skin fraying of the thumbs eventually kicks in to make it quite a saw effort to open any further shells, and the Pistachios are layed aside for a thumb-respite.

What is the nut you would slap a big sticker on with 'favourite' written on it?

SemperFidelis Apr 26, 2006 01:31 PM

Mine is definitely the walnut. How fun is it to hit something with a hammer to get to the treasure? I would love to try and crack it open with the butt of an M16 lol..

Will Apr 26, 2006 01:40 PM

Walnuts have been correlated with a reduction in the chance of dying from any cause. Plus they taste orgasmic.

Peanuts come in second. They're tasty and versatile.

Kolba Apr 26, 2006 02:32 PM

How does that work? If I eat walnuts will I be less likely to, say, get hit by a car?

rocketdog Apr 26, 2006 02:35 PM

i myself, prefer the coconut. :D juicy, and meaty... great way to start any morning, or to eat as a snack.

ps. the coconut is not a nut hehe

Find one of the shells that's long, broad, and has a fairly pointed tip (it would hold a wide nut inside). Then use this instead of your fingernails for prying them open. Watch yourself eat entire bags at a time. :(

SemperFidelis Apr 26, 2006 03:40 PM

I'm pretty sure it's reserved only for NATURAL causes lol.

Kaleb.G Apr 26, 2006 04:27 PM

Kupo nut. Why lie.

It sounds ridiculous, but this is what I've read.

knkwzrd Apr 26, 2006 05:03 PM

It's cashews. No competition.

Watashi_Baka_Da Apr 26, 2006 05:04 PM

I like hazel nuts. Mmmm. They are harder to crack open, but they dont shatter all over the place.

Kolba Apr 26, 2006 05:16 PM

Worrying times for Pistachio fans

I've never had a walnut. =(

My favorite nut is a macadamia nut. My least favorite is an almond...gag. And they're so good for you. I really wish I liked them.

I love macadamia nut cookies ^_^ They are the best ever!

Acacia Apr 26, 2006 08:20 PM

Mmm, nuts~!

I love all kinds of nuts; pine, macadamia, walnut, almond, pistachio, nuts are really yummy~

However, I'm not really fond of peanuts or cashews; dunno, they're always been really salty and..not very yummy tasty =/

Same here. After that, I would probably pick either peanuts or pecans. Those three nuts are about the only ones that I would eat whole. I'll eat almonds and walnuts and stuff, but I only like them when they're chopped.

Arkhangelsk Apr 26, 2006 09:31 PM

I'll really only eat peanuts. Or coconut, but it's not actually a nut. Oh well.

Soluzar Apr 26, 2006 09:36 PM

Personally, I'm very partial to Cashew nuts. Lightly salted. I love all kinds of nuts though...

Radical Apr 26, 2006 11:48 PM

I only really enjoy peanuts - salted, of course. I sometimes encounter other nuts, such as almonds or hazelnuts, in desserts. While I don't mind these seldom encounters, the only nuts I truly enjoy eating are peanuts.

Yggdrasil Apr 27, 2006 01:01 AM

Honey roasted peanuts. Awesome stuff. Macadamia and walnuts are good too, but the former preferably in a warm and soft cookie.

Will Apr 27, 2006 01:31 PM

Ironically, the one thing the walnut can't save you from is the walnut. My brother had an allergic reaction to one and his throat closed. Although, had it been a different nut, we don't know if he'd have been so lucky...

goldeneye2131 Apr 27, 2006 01:33 PM

I'd agree that the hazelnut is one of the best, but almonds are excellent too...I'm not much of a fan of eating nuts plain, I gotta have them with chocolate or something....and hazelnuts covered in chocolate...MMMMmmmmm....

nazpyro Apr 27, 2006 03:51 PM

Man I love deez. I always have supply of mixed nuts + trail mix that I get whenever I go grocery shopping, the contents of which satisfy me greatly; so: peanuts, cashews, almonds, macadamia, walnuts, and pecans. I do love the hazel nut too though, as well as pistachio.

One of my other favorites are the boiled peanuts. <3.

I definitely did not see that one coming.

I like a lot of various types of nuts and legumes, but if I had to choose a definitive favorite, I think I would have to go with cashews as being my favorite, but pistachios are a close second for their unique taste.

You win. The only reason I didn't say that was because I didn't think anyone would know what I was talking about.

Arienas Apr 27, 2006 11:03 PM

Brazil nuts! Hardly anyone likes them, so I get the rejects from the mixed nut cans.

elwe Apr 27, 2006 11:34 PM

I like hazelnuts and almonds, although I'm not too enthusiastic about nuts. I don't really like the taste of walnuts, as the flavor is a bit, er, strong, or something like that. I'm not really sure. I'll eat them if they're in banana bread, however.

Pistachios are also pretty good. I always have a fun time sucking the salt off the shells before cracking them open, but I don't suppose that it's a good habit. :p

Can't honestly say I've tried a naked brazil nut, but chocolate brazil nuts are pretty amazing.

Shinimegami Apr 28, 2006 07:27 AM

Pecans! Mmmm....yummy

Macadamia is good in white chocolate cookies!

Brazil nuts...heh. We grew up calling them "nigger toes" (no lie) and I didn't know they were actually called Brazil nuts until I was grown. Show a Brazil nut to ten southerners, ask them what it is, and watch in amazement as nine of them go, "nigger toes."

SemperFidelis Apr 28, 2006 08:48 AM

ROFL. I <3 the south. I never had a Brazil nut. Maybe I have, and didn't know what it was. Does it taste like any other nut?

Arienas Apr 28, 2006 08:53 AM

It tastes kind of oily and dry, but it's a good oily and dry. Pick up a can of mixed nuts and try one.

Yerp. That's what they were usually called where I've grown up.

EmpyreanHorizon Apr 28, 2006 10:05 AM

Salted peanuts roasted with garlic chips. My favorite. Also almonds served in a bowl of ice--at least that's how they served it in that Lebanese restaurant I went to on the way to Ceders. I'm selective when it comes to pistachios. chestnuts are good too.
I'm not a huge fan of pili nuts and cashews, though.

Why Am I Allowed to Have Gray Paint Apr 28, 2006 11:02 AM

Brazil nut toffee is really nice. I like those, and pecans the best. I'd like to know why peanuts are also called "Monkey nuts" and don't tell me it's because monkeys eat them. Monkeys will eat anything but we don't use "Monkey" as a suffix for things in general.

Kolba Apr 29, 2006 09:04 PM

I'm eating Cashews right now. What I can tell you about them from my own POV is that they're best eaten in small doses. If you come back to them after a break, they taste marvellous - but you don't have to pop many before getting a little blase over the taste. I will reserve my Cashew intake for mixed nut bags in future.

NYRSkate Apr 29, 2006 09:22 PM

Tom Cruise scores major points for the couch-jumping thing, but I think I'll have to go with this guy I saw by my job this morning. He was drunk at 7 in the morning, and offered me a beer. I told him that squirrels were sleeping in his bed, and he meandered off.

kobunicus Apr 30, 2006 03:09 AM

Although I like buying pistachios and love opening them and eating whole handfuls at a time.

I could eat cashews all day. They are already open... which is the big bonus. And the saltiness is perfection. :)

Dullenplain Apr 30, 2006 03:57 AM

My favorite nuts are pecans, although following up I also like honey-roasted peanuts, walnuts, macadamia nuts, and cashews.

Haven't been eating any recently though. I might have to fix that.

octo May 4, 2006 02:35 AM

I have to say, it changes all the time. However, most recently, it has been the walnut.

CLOudkiller May 4, 2006 01:00 PM

I wonder if Sunflower Seeds are nuts... I wonder, well at any rate mine has to be walnuts, there something about that I can't put my words on.
