Onionknight Final Fantasy: Smugasfuck Call - You bought DLC, Kupo
Japan gets it next spring, no word on Europe or US releases yet.
Quote:
So, were there any tracks that didn't make it from the last game and its DLC that you're hoping for this time around? |
I'm curious just how much new material they can put in, given that they got most of the good tracks the first time around. Yes, the iOS version had a few new songs, but unless they're introducing some radically new gameplay, I'm not sure it's worth double (or triple) dipping just to get music from FFXIV and Lightning Returns.
|
How many tracks were in the original Theatrhythm? 200 doesn't sound like a huge bump if they include songs that were previously DLC. There were still some glaring omissions in the song list, and I'd be willing to rebuy for a couple new songs from each game. You Are Not Alone and the Veldt would top my list.
Ordinarily I hate when companies release the same game over again with a few additions (hello entire fighting game genre), but I still play Theatrythm often enough that I wouldn't mind buying an expanded version. If there are 60 characters now then that kind of dwarfs the 5-6 I still need to unlock in the original. |
My body is ready.
If you counted ALL of the 3DS tracks including all of the DLC, and added in the iOS exclusive tracks there are about ~120 tracks total across both versions and DLC in the original versions (the count gets weird because some tracks were changed modes or weren't playable in one version but playable in the other, etc). So even if you want to assume that they're including all of these tracks in this version that's still at least ~80 tracks to add which is pretty respectable. I'm glad I hadn't bought most of the original DLC tracks yet, will probably hold off a bit until we get more details. Personally I'd be surprised if they include all of the DLC from the first game (it's Square after all), I'm hoping if they don't include it they at least make it compatible with DLC from the first game so you can just dump everything in this. |
Quote:
|
In before 55 of the 60 characters are unlocked via DLC roulette.
|
That would still be less annoying than the crystal fragment method.
|
Well, it'll either be 2 dollars a spin or 5 bucks for a pack of 10 crystals with randomly chosen colours.
I don't look forward to either. |
Yeah, I'm in. I'm like Daravon in that I'm hoping they include some of the DLC already available, mostly cuz I have money for GAMES not SONGS. The main thing I'm wondering (and had made me think about how a sequel would work) is how they can handle Event Mode what with already doing it. I know there's a bunch of cutscene stuff they could put in (esp. from VII - etc), but they've already hit some of the more important plot-ish stuff they could show with the FMVs.
|
I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched Event mode entirely. It wasn't in the iOS port, and like you said they would probably end up reusing a lot of scenes. I was never overly fond of it anyway. I'd be fine with just unlocking movies to watch.
|
Event is still in unfortunately :( But FFT and Mystic Quest are in!
http://storage.siliconera.com/wordpr...09/image65.png Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call Has Tunes From These Final Fantasy Games - Siliconera Will have music from: Quote:
|
Interesting that they don't list Final Fantasy XV. They should even have more than one song ready by now!
I'm oddly excited by Mystic Quest's inclusion. I remember almost nothing about it except that I really liked it as a kid, so I have no idea if there were any worthwhile music tracks. One of these days I'll replay it to see if it's as disappointing as everyone else seems to think. |
Type-0 has some good music, and XIV isn't bad either. Other than those 4, meh. FFT will probably make me buy it, though.
Quote:
|
Oh that's right, they did have a track from XV (Versus XIII at the time) as DLC in last game.
I don't see After Years in that lineup. :( Dissidia, Crisis Core, and Advent Children though? I welcome that. |
LOOOOL ADVENT ONE WINGED ANGEL LET'S FUCKING DO THIS SHIT
|
for some reason i never got into the idea of this game, but if i could buy this version with all the songs included (i have little to no patience for DLC) i might spring for it. From what i can tell the odds of not having to buy at least a good number of the songs as DLC doesn't seem likely, though.
|
I want Tactics A2 to be represented. A Hymn for the Journey for Field Music and Green Wind and Companions That Surpassed Their Tribe for Battle Music. Luso would have like SSS Strength F Everything Else, and would deal bonus damage to all women-- fuck the girls in your own party, too. They deserve the fist.
|
Luso's Theme/Summer Vacation would probably make better Field Music. AHFTJ would be an okay Intro/Event song though.
I'd vouch for That Which Stands in The Way for BMS. Companions and Green Wind are definitely some of the best tunes on the soundtrack, but TWSiTW seems like it'd make for a greater challenge. |
I figure if something as slow and boring as To Zanarkand can be field music, A Hymn would be okay. I had forgotten about Summer Vacation though. I could agree to that for sure. But isn't TWSiTW just the XII boss theme? I think that's already in the game representing XII. What about Into the Fantasy instead? It's a calm track, but would be hard as fuck, I'd bet.
|
The BMS for XII was Clash of Swords, different tune. I still say That Which Stands in the Way would be a good pick.
Also what the fuck, Zanarkand is a really nice tune, even if everything else about X sucks. |
I dunno about the 3DS version, but the iOS version seems to have TWSitW, labelled simply Boss Battle. I say "seems to" because I don't want to spend two dollars to find out. But anyway, it should be in Curtain Call already.
And To Zanarkand was okay. It was just too slow for a Field Theme, for me. |
Not much news, but it is confirmed that the game will be coming to the US sometime in 2014. The UK is still pending for a release date, Japan gets it in 2 days.
- 60 characters from players to choose from, including newcomers from series spin-off titles like Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - The sequel features a Quest Medley mode, in which players can build and battle through their own playlist of Final Fantasy songs, as well as a Versus Battle Mode in which players can go head-to-head to see who can get get the highest score.

2014 AND WE STILL HAVE TO WAIT MONTHS TO GET SHIT GOD DAMN YOU JAPAN
I NEED ADVENT OWA IN MY LIFE LIKE RIGHT NOW |
Was actually going to make a thread for the new one, but this works. Some more tidbits:
-Confirmed to have 221 tracks on-cart, which appears to include every single DLC track from the first game with one exception (the Versus XIII DLC track). Full track listing can be found here. -You can now customize the chime effect for notes as well as change the volume on it. (HOLY SHIT) -Video showcasing all (63) of the songs from the non-mainline games (FFT, Mystic Quest, etc):
-First DLC pack details, will be out day 1 in Japan (which is today). Available now are: Quote:
|
Quote:
Real talk lol at Reno showing up as an enemy character in that chime vid, did S-E not get the memo that Reno is the real hero of Final Fantasy 7 or what. You could make an Advent Children abridged with just Reno's parts and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. |
Holy god. Holy god @ me not needing to buy all that DLC. I've been holding off because srsly.
|
According to someone at Gamefaqs, you can now reset when you hit level 99 on a character, but you keep all of the stats from the previous levels as well as cards. Goddamn.
|
Ahaha, holy crap, I didn't know they even added a male Clavat to the roster. I'm so glad I didn't put any money down on the iOS version.
|
E3 Trailer and release date (September 16th):
I still want this game more than anything coming out this year period except maaaaaaybe for Destiny, it's ridiculous. I was practically tearing up just watching that trailer, I needs it. Still salty as hell I'm not going to be able to get the Collector's Edition since it's only available through their online store which is still Digital River who sucks shit and charges you up front for pre-orders, and I wouldn't have the money until next month :( Edit: They're still doing weekly updates in Japan for the foreseeable future, as of this week this is all the DLC released so far: Quote:
http://i.imgur.com/ZN7ppVR.jpg |
I kind of want that CE
But I'm not sure if I DIGITAL RIVER want that CE. God damn it SE. |
I just really want the pouch/carrying case, don't really care about any of the other extras. This more or less ends with me getting the regular pre-order free limited edition upgrade version at Gamestop or wherever, then me having to ebay the pouch later for probably way too much money.
On a directly related Digital River note, Namco Bandai just dropped them and they now just use Amazon. They've occasionally had some pretty good deals on their store in the past, now they might actually be worth taking advantage of. |
Holy shit, they did?
Welp, that makes things better for me. DR is retail hitler so that's nice. |
Nice to hear that companies are finally ditching Digital River. I was pretty underwhelmed by the CE, so I'm thinking of just getting the download version. The original Theatrhythm still has a permanent place in my carrying case after I've played it to death, so this seems like a perfect candidate for a game to just stick on the system.
Also, so happy to see Good King Moggle Mog XII on the DLC list. Second best song in the game after the Halloween music that's drilled into my brain. |
I hate Digital River as much as the next guy, though it's questionable if I should. The only two times I've used them I've either had zero issues and launch day delivery (Drakengard 3 CE), or I've gotten the damn game for free (Ni No Kuni Wizard's Edition). Still, payment at the time of order is bullshit.
I'll probably just buy the regular edition at Amazon or something. I doubt the pouch could fit a 3DS XL. |
Per the item description it fits all 3DS sizes, so it should. I seriously want it :(
This WOULD be a good game to go digital on, I just don't know if I can bring myself to do so though. Even ignoring Nintendo's ridiculous online account bullshit, I really like having a copy of a game on a shelf. Also if I actually have my 3DS with me anywhere it's in a case that can hold games, so practically it's not a huge deal. |
Oh, does it? Hm. Eh, still probably not worth it.
I usually feel the same way as you about having physical copies, but there's also something oddly quaint about always having your digital games sitting on the home screen alongside whatever game is sitting in the cartridge slot. |
Wow, I wasn't expecting them to do remixed tracks from Dissidia for this series. I would've thought they still had plenty to work with.
|
Quote:
WE ARE NO LONGER FRIENDS |
What are you talking about? Not everything has to go in a folder, Skills.
DON'T PUT FRIENDSHIPS INTO FOLDERS. |
There's something awfully quaint to having a series of physical copies of games on a shelf, too.
Probably quainter. Yeah, I want to have both of these next to each other. |
Quote:
I'm a little surprised. I thought Skills of all people would be a proponent of lubricating-- especially on those lonely, lonely game nights. |
Except the stylus, it keeps slipping and sliding and going places you don't want it to go with the tapping and the spinning arrows and the verbing
|
It's out today in the US!
Spoiler:
|
Shit is fucking BALLER SON.
Quick impressions: -The new UI looks a lot sharper, neater, more organized. -You no longer have to sit through every individual level up and message after battles. Helps decrease time spent hitting next. -You can play all three versions (Basic/Expert/Ultimate) of a score from the get-go. No more playing the same song over and over! -Everything unlocks in Music mode after playing 4 songs. Neat! -Songs no longer fade out before the end. Seems like we're actually getting full versions of stuff unless it's a 6+ minute long deal. Most noticeable with OWA and Saber's Edge which kind of petered off before getting to the final segments in the first game. -It seems much, much easier to unlock characters this time around. No more hoping and praying you get the right crystals. -Being able to play with the stylus, buttons, or a combination of both is a huge improvement. -Onion Knight's pre-battle portrait is occasionally SMUG AS FUCK MORE LIKE SMUGION KNIGHT So far everything points to this game owning fucking bones, seriously. I love this shit. |
Yeah and apparently they removed the stupid requirement of having nothing equipped to get the point bonus required to get max score, so now you can run with whatever you want for scoring purposes.
I'm so salty I don't have this right now, fuck Destiny. Booted up the demo for the first time this morning and almost wanted to cry it's so good. EDGAR HAS HIS FUCKING CHAINSAW |
Quote:
|
Wait, this isn't DIVORCE GAME.
|
Two other really nice features:
- When you play a song in Quest mode your score and crit chart are saved in the music list too. No more of that nonsense where it only counted in Challenge mode. - Crystal shards always seem to come in groups large enough to unlock at least one person. I played a ton of this at work tonight. I haven't seen Smugion Knight, but Celes has a pretty hilarious starry eyed expression. There are so many huge improvements, and the only issue I have is that the hold notes still feel off to me. |
I'm having fun, but I can't time shit to save my life. It's a different experience than Theatrhythm iOS that's taken some getting used to. Dunno if I'll ever get any good at Expert, and lol Ultimate.
Y'shtola is my smug-as-fuck party member. |
Quote:
Real talk though, my wife is the best. We went to Walmart, and they even had Limited Edition copies (not the CE, but the ones that came with pre-order CD) so that was baller. Game is fucking amazing. First track hits and it's FFT, and the first track I played was Mystic Quest. Then I did some quest mode and there was a big ass chocobo and it said "special" and I got a chest. It's like the game is directly massaging the pleasure centers of my brain. I will say my only real complaints are: -The volume is kinda low. You want to play the game with headphones anyway and it's fine there, but it's really low without headphones compared to the first game, and I've seen a lot of people mention that. Not sure if it was a compression/space issue or what. -I think I prefer the button controls EXCEPT for FMS where you have to hit a direction on a hold note since you have to essentially let go of the pad and then flick it in the direction at the end. It's super annoying, and the only thing keeping me from switching over completely. Stylus controls are still perfectly fine and I can swap in-between the two, but button controls are way easier for when I'm laying in bed or something. But yeah, the amount of stuff in this game is ABSURD. People are saying that to actually clear bosses on the highest difficulty you will actually have to do the level 99 reset multiple times; even Perfect Chaining entire songs won't get you enough damage to kill them at 99, so you'll need to reset your character levels to gain more permanent CP so you have more skills equipped to do damage. Apparently it takes 10 resets to hit the max of 99. I've seen posts from importers saying they've dropped 200+ hours in it and not maxed everything. Fucking madness. This is pretty much my GOAT right here. |
Anyone playing the game should check out this insane html FAQ someone did over at Gamefaqs:
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call FAQ for 3DS by SBAllen - GameFAQs Motherfucking madness. There is so much shit in this game. |
I just retired two people (Zidane and Benjamin) and earned the 1 billion points trophy. It's possible I've played too much. I've stuck to this exclusively since it came out.
I really like how quickly this one ramps up. Everyone gains levels crazy fast, so I don't mind swapping in new people or resetting at 99. It also likes surprises. Some bosses and chocobo sections suddenly started throwing out spinning arrows around level 70 instead of waiting until Ultimate. One of my medium quests also had a single Ultimate FMS just to throw things off. |
Sounds like this game is the thing I should have bought instead of Guardians 'R Us.
Will snag it this weekend. |
Yo dawg I could have told you this was baller as fuck before it came out. When the first one was out, even.
|
Seriously, you knew how good this would be.
Has anyone else tried the online battles? I played two international matches last night and it ran smoothly. Seems like it's the best way to get cards you need. You get two out of the three if you win and one if you lose. It also flashes them and says if they're new, so it's not as much of a random crapshoot. |
I just tried one, it's pretty awesome. Dude picked OWA Ultimate and it was a close race until halfway when I broke away. I then returned the favor with Saber's Edge and proceeded to demolish him. He quit afterward.
I think I'm gonna love this online mode. |
Relax, motherfuckers, my original plan was to pick it up in a week or two when I was done with the two other portable games I am playing at the moment. Y'all calm down.
|
I have an extra copy. Someone buy it.
|
Oh by the way, I was thinking of having a quick meetup in #gfchat on Saturday, about an hour before we play Mario Kart to fool around in online mode for a bit. Anyone down?
|
I may or may not, probably depends on what I'm doing in Destiny at the time since this is probably the last weekend I'm going to grind out in that game (should have all leg armor slots by Monday). Also I haven't had an IRC client installed in like 4 computers so that will be fun.
Are you guys all playing on Ultimate or what? I'm super rusty, Expert is totally fine, Ultimate might not go so well for me. I only played one match of the versus mode, seems fun although Mog is going to get turned off ASAP. |
I prefer Ultimate but Expert is okay. Also if you don't have irc installed there's a mibbit Web client link on the front page.
|
Yeah, I'm down as long as I remember. That might be a big if!
I play primarily on Expert, so I know I wouldn't do so well on Ultimate. I can do FMS on Ultimate, but especially with the EX Bursts I doubt I could even do those. |
So who all is down for some Curatin Call tomfoolery?
|
I'll try to get it sometime soon, but there's a long Quest map being shared on GAF that is apparently fucking insane for XP; people talking about going from 1-72 on it.
|
Anyone here have that map to share? I imagine combined with Exp Up III it's pretty impressive. Also, what parties are you guys rolling with right now? Curious to hear.
|
I'm still working on building my rolling crew for online, but my mains at the moment:
Onion Knight - 1 Star Level 99 Thunder Fire Blizzard Ninjutsu Terra - 1 Star Lv 68 Firaga Blizzara Thundara Magic Up Cloud - Level 99 Focus Lv 3 Sinewy Etude Lv 1 Sinewy Etude Lv 2 Omnislash Y'shtola - Level 99 Regen Lv 2 Holy Cure Tifa #2 - Level 99 Chakra Lv 3 Sinewy Etude Lv 3 Final Heaven Warrior of Light - Level 94 Focus Lv 3 Focus Lv 2 Added Cut Sacrifice Lv2 I'm still leveling up a bunch of people, so I've gotta wait to see how they turn out before adding them in. |
So far I've maxed and reset Rydia, Celes, Benjamin, and Zidane. My current party is Locke, Edgar, Kain, and Agrias. Kain and Locke are definitely both keepers. Kain's strength gets crazy and Locke has Scare to frighten away the 2nd enemy and get to bosses faster.
|
You know, I was thinking about you citing those skills earlier, and Seifer has both Berserk and Scare, along with Dark for good measure. Not as fast as Locke, but CollectaCards could fix that.
Wouldn't fix his likability, though. I really like Faris, who's been turning out pretty well. Extremely fast, but she doesn't have very many skills to help in FMS. Zack has been a beast and is surprisingly quick, though Omnislash would have been nice. The other two have been shuffled about constantly. Faris - Level 94 Mirage 3 Haste 2 Hero's Rime 2 Dash Zack - 1 Star, Level 44 Vigilance Strength Up 1 Strength Up 2 Sacrifice Aphmau - Level 88 Boost 2 Cry 3 Sic 1 Choco Cure Seifer - Level 63 Chakra 2 Dark 1 Dark 2 Mirage 2 I think Faris will stay, but who knows. Anyone could end up in my party at this point. |
Played the demo for this game, it was pretty fun. Might pick it up yet - though someone said something about an extra copy?
|
Just bought this for the sole reason of making Tails shut up in chat.
Now to put some time into it. |
Ahaha, just ran into my first ragequitter. A connection error popped up the second the last note hit, which was almost funny enough to make up for him cheating me out of cards/points. Judging by his proficard he's just some asshole trying to plow through the trophies and still had the default quest map equipped after 66 hours.
I really, really like the online mode so far. It's a lot of fun beating down all of these people who insist on picking FF X-2 or Advent Children songs. |
Yeah, I hit a couple of those yesterday, it's a shame too because honestly what's the point?
Still, online play is great, although I wish more people had something other than the default Chaos Map attached. I've gotten a few amazing Platinums off of randoms, but not as many as I should be seeing. We totes need to organize some GFF stuff once people get up to speed. |
Yeah, I've gotten a couple of really good maps, but at least half the randoms I've played still had the default map. It's disappointing to keep seeing that same map over and over.
Does Ultimate seem a little easier to anyone else compared to the first game? I'm not sure if I'm just finally getting the hang of it or what, but the life bar seems like it doesn't deplete nearly as fast. |
Nah, Ultimate seems about the same as before. If you think it's easy, try perfecting Force Your Way from FF8.
|
Oh, definitely not easy. Easier. As in I can reliably survive the songs and beat the Quest bosses. I'm nowhere close to perfect chaining on Ultimate.
|
Yeah, I've become consistently good at Expert, but Ultimate still (and likely always will) make me feel bad about myself. I can't seem to process the notes fast enough before it's time to fire them off, so if I'm lucky, I'll get an S on the song. Usually A, and a statistically significant amount of Bs on some of the tougher tracks. Taps and holds are easy enough, but rapid successions of holds-then-slides fuck me up without fail.
Still, this game is fantastic and I'm extremely happy that I bought it. |
Yeah, I have the same issue with just visually processing what's coming along with Ultimate. Game is fun as hell though.
I think I came across a rage quitter. Playing a random online and actually doing really well... "Communications Error". Oh. Damn it. |
It's the dumbest game for rage quitting too. The loser still gets a card and it barely subtracts any points at all.
I have that same issue with processing Ultimate. I'm mostly going by color, so sudden arrows mixed in can mess me up badly. Omagnus and I played a couple songs after Mario Kart yesterday, and everything worked great. We confirmed that it'll swap proficards again if you switch maps, so it won't be a problem passing those around. We also confirmed that Judgement can burn in hell. Even Random Speed doesn't make your score plummet as quickly. |
Y'all are making this game harder than it needs to be. Playing Ultimate isn't so much about processing notes as it is becoming familiar with the music. This goes for a lot of other music games as well. Playing on anything other than the highest difficulty means there are gaps between touches and the music, where playing on the hardest difficulty means there's more than likely a touch for every note.
I have the opposite problem, where I'm prone to make mistakes on Expert because I'll be expecting there to be touches where there are none and it throws off my internal cadence. My advice to you guys is start off slow. Pick a song you really, really like and know inside out (for me it was Battle II from FF3) and play it over and over until you get a feel for how the touch/music cues lines up. Once you get a better understanding of how often you should be expecting to tap/slide you can work you way down songs that you're familiar with and then maybe work on to ones that you aren't. Continuing to play Expert only is going to make tackling some of the harder Quest Maps near impossible. |
Yeah, my problem right now is that Expert is a bit too easy, but most Ultimate tracks are still kind of a bitch. There's a few tracks where I just can't get it down at all, it's like the notes are following a different beat line then I am mentally. My biggest issue at the moment is I keep flip-flopping between Stylus and button controls. Stylus is obviously the best for FMS stages because of the slides at the end of hold notes which is kind of fucked with button controls. For BMS though some patterns I feel are harder with button, and some are harder with stylus. I'll probably wind up sticking with buttons for BMS though.
Also the staff roll is fucking amazing. |
The staff roll is incredible, yes. Like, is that fucking SKA? In the year of our lord 2014? Yes. Yes it is.
Also, the only way to play without EX Bursts online is with Ultimate. Get good or go home. 8) |
Welp, bought the game and tried to download it, but it messed up my SD card. Hope this game is worth losing all of my save data for Fire Emblem, Zelda, Animal Crossing, AA5, Layton vs. Wright, Oracle of Seasons, Shin Megami Tensei IV, and whatever other games i'm forgetting, because the backup i made got corrupted, so that's what happened.
|
Holy shit, what happened? I suddenly feel like I should be backing up my SD card before buying anything on the shop every time.
|
::not making regular data backups in the year of our lord 2014::
|
Hadn't played the previous title, but got hooked after abusing the demo. Having since played the game almost religiously for the past two days, I'm sitting here actually impatient while my 3DS recharges for more DDR-esque insanity. My one gripe about the Advent Children playlist would be the missing "Beyond the Wasteland" instead of "Cloud Smiles". Surely it would be appropriate? (Well, once it gets going! ^^)
However, this game has reignited my love for FF VIII, the soundtrack is playing as I type. :) Fear I may start seeing red blobs and green sliders while out walking though... |
Got the level 50 Short Quest XP map. Working on getting the other hugely popular map making the rounds known as the Chocobo map:
Quote:
|
Yeah, International peeps are insane. Just got a Level 99 P short map, final boss is Feral Chaos who gives Four White shards. This is amazing. I don't have squad that can beat him though, even with five ultimate attacks I couldn't beat him (you unlock his music stage at 40,000 RM). He shows up 4th order in the song and it's a very short tune.
|
Yeah, there are Ultimate BMS maps out there that are literally impossible unless you have *10 level 99 parties all fully decked out, because you literally don't have enough CP to have enough damage skills equipped to clear them, even if you get a Perfect Critical chain. People are nuts. You've probably got one of the Nostalgia maps? There's apparently 8 of them:

....I got a level 99 Nostalgic Fierce quest online. Fuck. Nope.gif etc
Also I just got the crazy level 75 Chocobo map. Y'all gonna have to give me a bit to beat this so I can share it, it's 88 tracks long >_> |
The Level 99 Map isn't any of the special ones, it's just a short quest with Feral Chaos at the end.
I managed to beat him today, though it's easier due to item stacking and a longer song. Still don't have a buff enough team to beat him normally in his Music Stage, but I'll work on that once I've finished leveling everyone once and then pick a team to reset level a bunch. I got the trophy for maxing 16 characters to 99 today, so I'm making decent progress on that front. |
Yeah, still only at around 15-20 hours played and missing a ton of characters. Haven't decided what my final party will be yet; since it's (relatively) easier to pump up stats on characters I feel more inclined to go with a party that I want to actually use instead of characters I'm forced to use (like Zidane for FMS etc). Thinking I'll probably go Balthier/Terra/THUNDERGOD with Ramza or Agrias as the last slot. Cid isn't out yet, but I really hate that they went with the Chapter 1 look for Ramza :/
|
Terra made it into a final party slot for me after seeing how powerful Trance + Ultima is. On lower level maps it can kill the boss and every other enemy in between until the boss reappears. Those two skills use up all her CP without resetting, so a few more resets should make her an unstoppable boss killer.
|
Yeah, I've reset her a few times and I have her right now with Trance + Dualcast + Ultimate + Fira. I'm not positive but I don't think Ultima works with Dualcast sadly, but not 100% sure. Saw someone mention that if different people cast Ultima the damage spills over twice as much (one Ultima doesn't "override" the other), so apparently you can roll with Vivi + Terra for two Ultimas and get multiple wave/boss wipes with one cast, which is hilarious.
Been putting a little bit more time into the game this week since I haven't been sleeping much, I love it so much, easy GotY right here. I did clear the level 75 Nostalgic Chocobo map so I can share that and the Bracing level 50 XP map with folks. Some people on GAF have gotten some of the other Nostalgic maps as well, I'll try to snag all the good ones that I can for sharing since I should be around on Saturday if folks are still doing this before Mario Kart. |
I have a level 25, 75 and 99 versions of the fierce nostalgic map (all battle maps). Might have a level 50 copy too, but I don't recall. Haven't cleared any of them yet, but if there's significant interest to get access to one of them I can do so (probably the level 25 to start).
|
In general the Nostalgic maps are just very popular online since they have novelty value, but also they tend to be pretty good for a number of reasons. The Bracing (XP) and Pastoral (Chocobo) ones are the most popular. I wouldn't mind getting the 25 and 75 versions of that from you sometime (I have the 99 one, it's a popular one attached to profilecards online), but no rush at all. The only ones I would go way out of my way to get ASAP would be a 75 or 99 version of Bracing, but I don't think I've seen that floating around yet.
Also the Chocobo one was pretty good for getting crystal shards, since every FMS has a Fat Chocobo. Probably not worth it for that alone or anything, but it was a nice bonus. |
So Dualcast doesn't work on Ultima? Good to know. Maybe Faith is the better choice then. Ramza just learned Ultima too, so I did notice the boost from his adding to the damage.
Do you know if levels of Berserk chain together? It's really unclear how it works since Berserk cancels all of the user's abilities after it activates. |
No one I've really messed around with even has Berserk so no clue. In general I'm not real sure how some skills combine and if they're additive or not.
|
Kain has all the Strength Ups, Sacrifices, Berserks, and a pretty good boss killer. It's hard to tell if Berserk stacks or cancels passive abilities that already activated though.
|
So despite Smash having arrived, I played through and cleared the Lv25 fierce nostalgia map and have attached it to my ProfiCard. That way if we get chance you can nab it off me through an exchange.

THUNDER "MOTHERFUCKING" GOD CID DLC TOMORROW
Also a bunch of good tracks, still super pleased that Chocobo Fables stuff made it in. It's mostly all badass remixes of FF stuff. Quote:

HELL YEAH ADVENT OWA
|
Ugh isn't that version like 6 minutes long? Fuck.
|
I'M SORRY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT FUCKING ADVENT OWA?????????
GET GOOD GET GOOD AT OWA |
Deep into the game the biggest two problems with the original game are back again:
1: Spinning arrows. Seriously, fuck you. 2: EMS stages. Holy shit why S-E, why. I can SSS Ultimate songs, but it's 5+ tries every single time to even get a Total Critical on a Basic EMS song, forget even a SSS rank. Every time I think it's just me for some reason I look online and nope, everyone complained about them in the first game, everyone complains about them now. On the plus side there's only 10 or 11 of them in this game, but goddamn they are fucking awful. My Profilecard shows my top 5 played stages are fucking EMS stages on Basic because it takes that many tries just to get a Total Critical on them (working towards that trophy for my endgoal). Sucks. Game is hugely improved and awesome in just about every regard so this doesn't really dampen my enjoyment of it, but the EMS thing in particular is super annoying. |
I am legitimately having a hard time getting a Total Critical on Crazy Chocobo on Basic because I can't stop fucking laughing. If I heard this song when I played the game I somehow have totally forgotten about it, I got this because I thought this was the FFXIII Chocobo song which is godtier. Best worst song.
|
I bought the game about two weeks ago, and I finally just hit the 50,000 RM mark. This game has quite an addictive hold on me. I haven't really done anything noteworthy. I'm just fixated on getting all the characters leveled up to 99 and unlocking all the characters.
I've dabbled with all the other options the game has to offer. I've played about 75 online battle and I'm just holding an above .500 record. I done a few quests, but most of my time has been spent in the normal gameplay mode, I'm just trying to full combo all my songs and get them full combo'd with the crown symbol. I'm on my 4th set of characters trying to get them leveled up. Zack Noel Cloud: Advent Children Version Agrias I actually don't mind the EMS songs. I find the timing a little more strict but I actually don't mind playing them, but I can understand why a lot of people don't like them. |
The timing on them just often doesn't make sense, it seems either too slow or too fast. People have theorized since the first game that it's some kind of technical issue with them running the FMV in the background that makes it wonky. It's not AS bad in this one as the first game though. Some of the stages I was able to do just fine, but then some are just totally off. On the ones that seem to be way off from the music I literally just turn the volume off and do it by sight and that works way better, fucking nonsense.

Fair enough. I refuse to take "GET GOOD" as a response to the EMS bullshit though.
Anyway after like 40 hours of gametime I'm still only like 60% of the way through getting Perfect Chain and Total Critical on all of the songs in the game on Basic, holy shit. |
Sorry, my someone-needs-to-get-good sense was tingling so I had to come check this thread out.
|
Daravon should look into the GET GOOD DLC
|
Get good season pass is a day-1 purchase.
|
I've literally only played one song that had spinning arrows, not sure how I'm supposed to get good at them yet apparently
|
Listen, I'm hearing a lot of excuses and not a lot of getting good in here.
|
hate u guys
|
In between hating you guys new DLC is out today!
http://i.imgur.com/VFOpze1.png Balamb Garden, The Chase and Precipitous Combat are getting bought as fuck |
I don't see Getting Good on there at all
|
Have you actually put any time into this game or what?
|
He has a point, Skills. I haven't heard shit.
Tavnazian is a really quaint track, and it holds some nostalgia for me. Back when the Promyvions were hard, access to the Tavnazian Safehold and its surroundings was your well-earned reward. Precipitous Battle appears to be Battle on the Bridge, so fuck yeah. |
So the online versus mode for this has gotten weird.
With the release of Smash it's pretty dead as you would expect; the couple times I have tried there is literally NO ONE playing at any level domestically. Internationally (aka Japan) is a different story though, I can usually get matches immediately. Where this gets crazy is that like 90% of the Japanese players are all at 5 star completion, shitload of Rhythmia etc and are basically gods, but then they only play on Expert. Like...what? Then last night I got two people who were actually playing on Ultimate no EX Burst (thank god) and holy fucking shit I don't think I have ever been wrecked that badly in my life. One of the two players GOT A TOTAL CRITICAL ON FORCE YOUR WAY ON ULTIMATE. Then afterwards I look at their Profilicards, they both had over 600k Rhythmia which I literally didn't even know was possible (I thought it hard-capped at 300k at the last unlock) with over 300 hours played. Gotta respect that shit. Anyway I should finally finish up all of my songs on Basic bullshit so I can finally get into the real meat of the game; I'm in this game for the long haul so I figured it would be best to get the Basic stuff "out of the way" now as opposed to being more annoyed having to do it later. Has anyone gotten any of the Romancing SaGa tracks? Seen a few folks saying that the BMS ones on Ultimate are the hardest things in the game. |
I have all the Saga DLC stuff but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Maybe when I get home.
Additional Spam: Disappointed in the lack of Get Good DLC. This time. The chase should be good though. |
I swear to God once I knock out all these Basic songs finally it is going to be fucking ON SON. I could do Ultimate no problem in the first game, can do it here but not at the level/rank I could before, need to get back on my game. I've barely done any quest medleys since I've been focusing 95% of my time on knocking the Basic stuff out first, this weekend I plan to wrap up Basic and then go in on that to get shards for the rest of the character unlocks, I'm actually still missing a bunch. Found out this morning that if you have zero of any color shards that you still have characters locked behind it does NOT show you that on the character select screen, you have to have at least one shard of that color for it to show you the character silhouette. So I thought I was much closer to getting all of the unlocks then I was since I had two shard types with multiple characters that I just had zero of :(. I do get shards fairly regularly as Rhythmia unlocks now though since I'm past 100k, but you only get rewards for every 1k Rhythmia at that point, not every 500. The grind, it is real.
Oh yeah, another crazy thing about the super hardcore Japanese players; like none of them have any DLC. Baffling. |
Unlocking Sephiroth is a pain in the ass with those black shards. I've only found one EX Boss that drops them. I think I'm only missing one or two characters in about... three color categories still. I should try to knock those out at some point.
|
I've got 2-3 Black Shard maps that I could share over VS. I'm honestly not sure how many characters I have left to unlock. I wish there was a way to easily check that in-game. I did one quest for green shards without realizing I'd already unlocked all of the green people.
|
I've got a quest that has two bosses that each give 2 black shards, I think it's a medium or long map though at high level but I can hook you up with that if needed. I know there's also a map floating around that gives 6 black shards but I don't have that one yet.
In general the only way to tell in-game if you're missing a character is to check the silhouettes in the character select screen, but like I mentioned earlier if you currently have 0 shards of a color any characters you have locked behind that color don't show up there, which is a pain in the ass. |
BRAVELY DEFAULT MUSIC GETTING ADDED AWWW FUCKING SHIT
http://i.imgur.com/jAlBQbn.gif THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY CURTAIN CALL | SQUARE ENIX |
|
Half the tracks will just be remixes of the overture, but it's still gonna be good.
|
Curious if it comes to the West. I imagine that the localization cost for these is probably super minimal, but S-E makes bizarre decisions. Maybe download only or something.
Still bummed we haven't gotten any word on the Bravely Default DLC coming out here. Even if that winds up coming over I would still like them to support Curtain Call with more crazy DLC stuff like it sounded like they intended. |
Looks like Curtain Call isn't done quite yet:
Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana Tracks Coming To Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call |
Yeah I am super pumped about that, but keeping my expectations in check until we get confirmation on whether or not that is hitting the US. We still haven't gotten the Bravely Default DLC.
|
Even more DLC announced today including Xenogears and Seiken Densetsu 3!
Final Fantasy VII – Opening Bombing Mission (BMS) Final Fantasy XIV – Primal Judgment SaGa Frontier – Last Battle –T260G- Final Fantasy Adventure – In Search of the Sacred Sword Seiken Densetsu 3 – Sacrifice Part 3 Xenogears – Soaring the Skies |
What gets me hard in this pack is the battle with GenocideHeart from SaGa Frontier. Quite frankly that whole soundtrack rules and they managed to pick the best battle theme out of it.
Interested in what the background and etc will look like. Flight is also completely boss and Sacrifice is like SD3's version of Meridian Dance so that's just awesome. The others are take it or leave it. Sacred Sword is good though. |
I figured you'd lose your mind when you saw both a Xenogears track and the SaGa final battle theme you've been raving about. They all came out today too, so no waiting for months like the Bravely Default DLC.
|
So I've got the game now. Already got Meridian Dance because hot as fuck. I need to play with some of y'all.
Also, I've only played online International with Europeans, and I'm still getting my ass handed to me on Expert. Thankfully it's barely losing, but still. The few times I've won? It's been on one of the NES/SNES era songs. |
Playing songs from FF 1-6, Tactics, or Crystal Chronicles trips a lot of people up in my experience. Most of the challengers I've met online only pick the newer songs. Then just pray you don't get hit with Random Speed or Judgement too much.
|
Also word is that there's another DLC pack coming to all regions on January 22nd; looks like maybe they're making a habit of these bi-weekly new releases?
|
310,000 rhythmia and counting.
Only ten songs away from triple SSS all songs on basic/expert and filling out the critical charts as well. The Ultimate songs could take a while, but I managed to pass Force Your Way (Ultimate) but the best score I've gotten on it so far is 8.2 million. Just resetting people's levels right now and trying to find all the rest of the rare and premium cards. |
Quote:
At least I have Get Good. |
All songs on basic/expert mode have been completely chained and their critical charts are maxed out as well.
I think I got about 22 trophies left to go and I have about maybe 50 or 60 songs on ultimate mode perfect chained and their critical charts filled out. I think for now I'll stick to quest mode for a while and hopefully I can beat feral chaos as a final boss so I can obtain that trophy. |
New DLC announced for Japan tomorrow! The highlights include 2 more Chrono Trigger tracks and 2 tracks from The World Ends With You. It's unclear when it'll come out in the west, but tomorrow is a possibility.
[BMS] Liberi Fatali (Final Fantasy VIII) [BMS] The Last Battle (Romancing SaGa 3) [BMS] World Revolution (Chrono Trigger) [FMS] Wind Scene (Chrono Trigger) [BMS] Twister (The World Ends With You) [FMS] Calling (The World Ends With You) World Revolution is probably my second favorite Chrono Trigger song, and you can't go wrong with TWEWY. Here's hoping for To Far Away Times and Deja Vu making it into the next round of DLC. |
Oh dammit. I knew I should have saved my money for World Revolution. Also, picked up a Long Quest with stuff for Gold, Silver, and Black if anyone here still needs shards.
|
Aww yeah TWEWY songs might be the first DLC i get for this game. I'm still not even close to being done with it, there's just so much else to do. Still have to keep trying to unlock all the characters.
|
Their continued support has really gotten me back into the game. Was still playing religiously every day up until about Thanksgiving, then we got a cat and a bunch of other stuff and I'd just been busy. But over the last few weeks I'm back to at least doing the Daily songs and trying to sneak in some other stuff. Long term I still want to get all of the in-game achievements, going to need to rent a 2nd copy so I can cheese the Local Battle wins one though :/
Also I would kill for Far Away Times and Frog's Theme and some of the other SaGa Frontier boss themes (they've picked good ones, but none of my favorites), but so far they've done pretty well. Calling has me finally wanting to open our sealed day one copy of TWEWY lol. |
According to Siliconera the new DLC came out today for NA, and the next batch of songs is scheduled for February 19th. It's too bad they're breaking this nice 2 week cycle they've had going, but at least it's confirmed that more is coming.
|
Yeah the new DLC is indeed out. Twister is the odd one out just because it's SUPER short (clocks in at like 1:15 or something around there) so I'd maybe stay away from that, but everything else is great. It's actually kind of crazy that it took 2 games and tons of DLC packs to get Liberi Fatali in the game. Wind Scene wouldn't have been my first CT pick but it's good, and I really love the background they did for it (including a Frog cameo!). I will still flip out if Frog's Theme, Battle with Magus or To Far Away Times get added.
Honestly at this point I'm just still super thrilled they're even supporting the game at all, much less branching out to all kinds of games, never would have thought it of S-E. Especially with the same developer working on the Dragon Quest Theatrhythm game. The month delay could have been them waiting a bit to see how all of the new DLC packs have done starting with the Bravely Default pack, since that came out a good while after the DLC had stopped in Japan. Or could have just been a logistical issue, who knows. But I'll keep buying whatever they put out, and glad to see they're at least up front confirming more is coming. |
You know, I noticed Twister being really short and sounding like it started partway into the song, but I just looked up the soundtrack on youtube and it's only 1:21. I guess I was just used to letting it loop during the game.
I love the close-up of Frog during Wind Scene, and farmer Robo is dancing in the background too. I'm really hoping that they're using the DLC to test how Theatrhythm games for each of these series would sell on their own. Dragon Quest has some great songs, but I'd kill for a full game using Chrono or Mana music. |
See, Mana I could see, since there's more than 2 games, although the character selection would be pretty slight (but DYLUCK), but Chrono doesn't have enough games, unless they just went nuts and said "HERE'S TWO FULL SOUNDTRACKS HAVE FUN" ALSO 40 MILLION CHARACTERS FROM CHRONO CROSS
|
I hadn't really considered characters, but sure, let's toss in the full Chrono Cross cast. "Oh sweet, I unlocked some kinda mermaid." The Trigger and Cross soundtracks are so good that I wouldn't be opposed to just getting the full things for both. It would probably end up about the same as Dragon Quest considering how many songs are reused between games.

Newest Curtain Call DLC just got announced:
From RPGFAN: Quote:

DLC for Feb 19th in EU/US:
BMS Final Fantasy IX - Vamo’ alla Flamenco Final Fantasy XIV - Nemesis Final Fantasy V - The Dawn Warriors Seiken Densetsu 3 - Swivel SaGa Frontier 2 - Mi?gestalt Chrono Trigger - Frog’s Theme Live A Live - Megalomania Romancing SaGa - The Conflict Romancing SaGa 2 - The Ultimate Confrontation FMS NieR Gestalt/RepliCant - Kainé/Salvation NieR Gestalt/RepliCant - Song of the Ancients/Devola Legend of Mana - Echoes of the Spiral Still dying that we are getting Live a Live DLC in the year 2015, holy shit. |
Hooooly shit I need DLC moneys. Swivel, Frog MEGALOMANIA and anything NieR? jesus.
|
I'm excited about all of those, especially Frog and the Nier tracks. Devola's Song of the Ancients is probably the best calm version, but I'm still crossing my fingers for Song of the Ancients (Fate) as a BMS. Easily my favorite song on an amazing soundtrack.
|
Upcoming DLC listing; worth noting these leaks have been 100% accurate in the past, apparently the tracks get uploaded to Nintendo's server well ahead of time, and quite a few people have access to see this stuff. The same few leakers on these have bee n 100% right on every DLC so far.
BMS ----- Final Fantasy X - Assault Final Fantasy X-2 - Real Emotion Final Fantasy Tactics - Apoplexy Final Fantasy Legend II - Struggle to the Death Nier - Hills of Radiant Winds Nier - Shadowlord Chrono Trigger - Battle With Magus Chrono Trigger - Boss Battle 2 Romancing SaGa - Beat Them Up! Romancing SaGa 3 - Devil Lord Confrontation II FMS ----- Secret of Mana - Into the Thick Of It Seiken Densetsu 3 - Meridian Child Chrono Trigger - Corridors of Time Live A Live - Birds in the Sky, Fish in the River GOAT? GOAT. |
Battle with Magus? Corridors of Time? HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH!!! I may have to start going on a DLC shopping spree. Last Battle has gotta be on the way, it just has to be.
|
Apoplexy is the FFT track I've been hoping for since the beginning. Whoever is choosing these DLC tracks deserves major credit.
|
The PR for the tracks released today mentioned more DLC coming March 5th, which is likely this listing. I'm guessing that based on how the last batch worked out Japan will get half of those tracks next week, then the following week they'll get the second half and we'll get them all at once.
|
DLC for this Thursday in the US/EU (out today in Japan):
BMS Final Fantasy X - Assault [2:16] Final Fantasy Tactics - Apoplexy [2:03] NieR - Hills of Radiant Winds [1:53] Chrono Trigger - Battle with Magus [2:15] Romancing SaGa - Beat Them Up! [2:04] FMS Secret of Mana - Into the Thick of It [1:47] So it looks like we're getting the other half of the leaked tracks on probably the 19th. Also the guy posting these leaks (he posted a video on youtube of him playing the US version of the DLC above...yesterday LOL) has confirmed that Shadowlord track from Nier clocks in as the second longest track in the game at four and a half minutes :O |
I'm not too surprised that Shadowlord is so long considering the song has two very different halves. Still, at 4 minutes I can't see myself playing it too often. What's the longest track? I'm assuming one of the Bravely Default boss songs that seem to go on forever.
|
Prolly OWA (some version) or Sacrifice Pt. 3. Or Dancing Mad.
|
OWA Advent version is the full six minutes, and it's beautiful in versus mode. Only DLC song I have.
|
Skimming the FAQ on Gamefaqs, the 5 longest tracks as of right now (so excluding Shadowlord):
Sacrifice Part 3 3:52 Dancing Mad 4:03 One-Winged Angel 4:06 Evil Wings (Bravely Default) 4:06 Advent One-Winged Angel 6:04 And there's only 7 other songs that clock in at 3:00 or above, most songs are solidly in the ~2 range. |
DLC for this week. Struggle to the Death and Devil Lord Confrontation II will be free for everyone until April 1st
DLC for 19th March BMS Final Fantasy X-2 - Real Emotion Final Fantasy Legend II - Struggle to the Death NieR - Shadowlord Chrono Trigger - Boss Battle 2 Romancing SaGa 3 - Devil Lord Confrontation II FMS Seiken Densetsu 3 - Meridian Child Chrono Trigger - Corridors of Time Live A Live - Birds in the Sky, Fish in the River Nothing official, but implication is that this might be the end of the DLC with them offering two free tracks, or at the very least a hiatus. JP PR indicates this is the end of "The Second Performance" of DLC which was the 2nd batch of 50 tracks where the DLC started back up after the US release. If that's the case it still entirely leaves the door open for a "third performance" given the second performance came months after the first batch ended in Japan (like, a solid 6 months or so I believe). Also would make some sense since Dragon Quest Theathrhythm is out soonish in Japan I believe, and they've already said all DLC in that game will be free (which as an aside appears to be in part due to the game shipping with a kind of sorry amount of tracks on cart, supposedly 60ish) so they need to move resources over there at some point presumably. My hope would be that it's different teams working on DLC tracks versus base game stuff since they were still putting DLC out for this game while Dragon Quest was obviously in full development, so maybe they'll come back to this one after DQ DLC starts winding down or whatever. If it is the end I'm a little bummed out of course since I love the shit out of this game and play it every day, but given that we're ending with DLC 100 tracks on top of 221 base tracks it's hard to complain too much about what we've gotten really, especially since the last 50 of those tracks weren't the original plan and are wrapping up nearly a year after the JP release. Everyone's going to have tracks that they wished were in, but I've been pretty happy with most of the track selections even though there's stuff missing. Only thing that would particularly bum me out is the ratio of some games that were represented, like getting a million SaGa tracks and TWO Live-A-Live tracks but only one track from Xenogears, no Chrono Cross (although that's a licensing thing), no Parasite Eve, no Brave Fencer etc etc. |
