Fave/Hated Chocolate(s)?

Here are my fave ones:
- all Hersheys chocolate... and i do mean "all"
- Maltesers (uh, did I spelled that right? :1zhelp: )
- Ferrero Rocher

I hate:
- toblerone
- kitkat *bleh*

*This thread would basically be based on everyone's honest opinions*

Rydia Apr 15, 2006 02:20 PM

I enjoy chocolate by Dove and Ghirardelli. I tend to get milk chocolate over dark, but I don't mind the latter at all. I don't really hate a particular brand of chocolates, but I've found that the generic brands don't often taste "real," so I stay away from those.

Josiah Apr 15, 2006 02:27 PM

I'm not a fan of dark chocolate. Hershey's milk chocolate is pretty good, but I think I like Nestle, Dove or Ritter-Sport milk chocolate more. Ferrero Rocher candies are good too.

ComCrimson Apr 15, 2006 02:29 PM

I like chocolate like Guylians and Ferrero Rochers mostly (yeah, i have expensive taste) but for the more normal stuff i like Turkish Delight Cadbury chocolate and any sort of bar i can get from Lidl with nuts in it. I don't like white or dark chocolate though so i'm pretty limited

nazpyro Apr 15, 2006 02:53 PM

I'm a fan of the Ferrero series of chocolates. So I enjoy the Rocher, the Mon Cheri, the Manderly, the Rondnoir, etc. I always have them in stock. :p Good stuff.

I also like those chocolate balls with the chocolate inside. ¬_¬()

More commonly, I love Hershey's Kisses, the Reese' Peanut Butter cups, and Peanut M&M's. I like most chocolates with nuts.

elwe Apr 15, 2006 02:56 PM

I'm a chocolate lover. Period. However, if there's one type of chocolate that I despise, it's white chocolate.

Among my favorite are Frangos, Lindt, Ghirardelli, and of course, Ferrero Rocher. Lindt truffles are amazing, and their white chocolate truffles are the only variety of white chocolate that I like. :p Dove is also okay, if I'm not in the mood for spending a lot. I actually don't really like Hershey's chocolates for some strange reason. It don't have a very chocolatey flavor. I still haven't gotten around to trying Godiva chocolates yet, but I've heard that they're pretty tasty.
($4 for TWO truffles?!)

Rachelle Apr 15, 2006 05:04 PM

I don't touch white chocolate either! It doesn't taste or look like chocolate to me... I love Ferrero Rocher and all types of dark/ bitter chocolate! I don't mind milk chocolate, but somehow I find it lacks that 'oomph' factor that dark chocolate gives me :P

That's because white chocolate is devoid of cocoa solids, which is what what basically gives your other chocolates their chocolatey flavor. It's mostly made of cocoa butter, which is what gives it a creamy texture. :p

Chibi Neko Apr 15, 2006 06:40 PM

mmmm.... chocolate....
I love lindor, cadbury, aero, and nutilla!

I am not fond of the cheap easter bunny chocolate though

Chocolate truffles.

I generally find that Hershey's isn't worth eating. I like Ghiradelli and Toblerone and See's and Dove if I'm going for cheap. I love chocolate as an accent flavor, but I don't often want to eat just a plain chunk of it.

And there's nothing I hate more than a chocolate cake that tastes nothing like chocolate.

I'm a dark chocolate lover myself, plus it has less sugar than milk chocolate which is good considering how sensitive my teeth are. Not to mention the health benefits... dark chocolate is loaded with tanins, also found in red wine and supposedly good for the heart.

White chocolate is nasty.

Radical Apr 16, 2006 12:41 AM

My favorite is Valrhona 70% dark.

kat Apr 16, 2006 01:48 AM

LOVE: Crunch Bars. Hershey's White Chocolate.
HATE: Ghiradelli Caramel Squares. Too damn sweet and the caramel will always inevitably get on your face or clothing.

doodle Apr 16, 2006 02:03 AM

I don't like Hershey's milk chocolate. I don't mind Hershey's dark or almond chocolate, but their milk chocolate is vile. So is Mr. Goodbar. Eugh.

That being said, the best in the world is the Dagoba Organic Dark with 70% cacao content. I also dig the bars that have little freeze-dried raspberries in them.

SemperFidelis Apr 16, 2006 02:07 AM

85% Lindt dark all the way. If I ever find a bar of 100% dark chocolate, that shit is going in my belly.

That would be pure cacao, which doesn't taste good at all.

SemperFidelis Apr 16, 2006 03:08 AM

Willing to try anything. Besides, I love the bitter stuff.

British Chris Apr 16, 2006 08:05 AM

Cadburys. All the way.
I quite like dark chocolate as well though, And white chocolate.
I don't think there is any i don't like...

Well it is edible, but it doesn't taste like chocolate. It tastes more like eating tea leaves. I guess you should try it just to see, though.

J-Man Apr 16, 2006 12:48 PM

I love white chocolate, almost as much as I like milk chocolate. I really like just plain milk chocolate with something crunchy in it, and all varieties of them. Mr.Goodbars are a good example, though there arent in Canada... :(

Crunch bars are good too

Fave/Hated Chocolate(s)?

Meh, I would add to my hated list: Kitkat "Dark Noir"

(just to be specific.)

Man, I just hate those things.

horseman85 Apr 16, 2006 08:50 PM

I tend to prefer white chocolate but man do I hate Godiva chocolates . . . well not all of them. But their Godiva sea shell chocolates do not do it for me at all. I didn't like its taste and how it melted in my mouth . . . Seems stupid to say "it was too soft" but it was . . . the inside of my mouth was covered in it . . egh

Watashi_Baka_Da Apr 16, 2006 10:13 PM

I love Dove chocolate, so much! The little fortune things on the inside are nice too.

I hate white chocolate...too wierd.

Lady Miyomi Apr 16, 2006 10:59 PM

When I was younger, I liked all chocolate except dark chocolate. Now, I can't stand any chocolate. I ignored the warning signs when I was younger whenever I ate it so I can't eat it anymore.

What do you mean "warning signs"? Did something actually happen to prevent you from eating chocolate anymore?

P.S. Don't give chocolate to your pets or they'll die.

I can say from experience that this isn't necessarily true: my Aunt's dog regularly ate chocolate before it died. (The dog died of old age, I promise.)
It once consumed two entire boxes of Russel Stover's chocolates and was fine. (The veterinarian was panicking, of course.)
It is true that dogs can't effectively break down the theobromine in chocolate, though. In theory, they should die from eating a somewhat significant amount.

Now, as for my favorite chocolate...
Since I don't consider any chocolate with filling (Cadbury eggs, for example) truly chocolate, I'd have to go with either Dove chocolate for "milk chocolate," and Hershey for "dark chocolate."

washyu64 Apr 20, 2006 03:52 PM

I only like Peanut butter cups and Resee's Pieces. All other chocolate is evil and should be destroyed ;)

Fatt Apr 20, 2006 04:44 PM

While I was doing a Chekov show (Three Sisters), the director brought in some Russian chocolates. I am not to particulary fond of chocolate to begin with, but I really disliked the Russian chocolates specifically. If I had to choose a favorite chocolate, I really did enjoy Belgium chocolates when I was visiting Belgium, as well as Fanny May chocolates from (my hometown) Chicago.

EmpyreanHorizon Apr 23, 2006 09:59 AM

Cadbury's my all time favorite. Yeah, I also prefer European chocolate but I don't mind the Maltesers or Reese's now and then. I miss the Kinder egg chocolate. I don't know why but I do. (I can't even remember how it tastes--i was just in it for the little toy inside) ;) I also have this thing for those After Eight dinner mints.
Hershey's chocolates smell weird. Especially the Kisses. I don't know...

Arienas Apr 24, 2006 12:44 AM

Dove dark chocolate, or Godiva truffles. I hardly ever eat white or milk chocolate anymore.

Yunnie Apr 25, 2006 01:04 AM

Fav. Chocolates:
1. Neuhaus (omg, so effing good) www.neuhauschocolate.com
2. Godiva (yum)
3. Ferrero Rocher. ^^

Dislikes:
...any cheap ones. lol

PacificKid Apr 25, 2006 06:02 PM

Canadian chocolate is where it's at (yum yum, Bernard Callebaut...chocolate).

I also like Hershey or Cadbury chocolate (or their chocolate bars, at least). But I really wanted to try Ferrero Rocher, but...allergies.

Rakka Sep 10, 2006 09:19 PM

Chocolates!

Mmm...chocolate. I hope that we're all humans here, so I guess that almost all of us like chocolate, right?

Since I've started shopping at a little co-op store that doesn't sell cheap candy bars but sells all sorts of fancy organic chocolates, I've discovered that I love really dark chocolate. The 71% cacao Valrhona bittersweet dark chocolate is really incredible (it's weird, but my whole body feels good as it melts in my mouth), and the cheaper very dark chocolates are nice, too. Dagoba's 87% Eclipse organic chocolate is really interesting, and I like it quite a bit, though I can't really eat it in huge quantities...not that I eat any chocolate in huge quantities...I don't want to LOOK like a chocoholic, too! It's a lot more bitter than sweet, but it's still quite an interesting and nice taste. I really, really want to try the 99% cacao chocolates that Lindt makes sometime, though I've never seen them in stores anywhere.

I like nice sweet milk chocolates a lot, too, and even white chocolate and cheaper chocolates like Hershey's is nice now and then.

So, what kinds of chocolate do you all like?

Rydia Sep 10, 2006 10:58 PM

I'm just going to merge this with the existing chocolate thread.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Sep 10, 2006 11:03 PM

If you guys want some very tasty, cheap chocolates that are eons better than Hershey, just try Milka. It isn't that hard to find, and most specialty candy shops should stock them. Mmmm.

And dark chocolate is my favorite variety of chocolate. I'm not too big a fan of white chocolate, though.

Dai Sep 10, 2006 11:07 PM

I'm allergic to chocolate.

Once my sister gave me a small piece of Godiva chocolate before I started itching like crazy. But it was quite good.

QFT. Swiss chocolate is absolutely heavenly too! I even went there to have some ;)

I love just plain milk chocolate by itself. I don't like dark or white chocolate.

Same here. I loooove chocolate. Chocolate from pretty much any foreign country is amazing. Trader Joe's has some milk chocolate with almonds that is delicious.

Krelian Sep 11, 2006 05:16 AM

White chocolate, despite not actually being chocolate, rocks in small quantities.

I'm not hugely partial to milk, but dark chocolate is something I could eat all day.

Capi here stole the words out of my mouth. I'm not really a sweet tooth, so white chocolate is waaay too sweet for me. Kinda revolting when I think about it. As for dark choc. the more bitter the better. There was once I ate this brand; can't remember the name; the dark chocolate was so bitter, it's like chewing coffee beans. Not that I don't like it though. Anymore bitter and it'll taste like medicine.

I particularly like chocalate with liquid filling; cherry wine for example. Add a little alchohol flavor into those sweet little things and hmmm....

*AkirA* Sep 11, 2006 11:55 AM

Im not as big on chocalate as I used to be, but I do love Risen. I love to have one around my desk to suck on every now and then. Helps me concentrate, and they are very tasty.

Truffles are pretty yummy. I usually like plain unflavored chocolate more than anything else, though. Plus, I always give into the temptation to chew on truffles to get at the filling.

Actually, AkirA, dark chocolate gives a nice burst of energy and helps me concentrate too. A square of Valrhona Le Noir Amer will make me bubbly and happy and energetic for hours. I don't think that it's just the sugar, because drinking a vending machine bottle of Coke (which has more sugar than an entire bar of that chocolate) just makes me feel jittery and burned-out.

My parents and sisters all HATE dark and milk chocolate...they'll only eat white chocolate, and maybe flavored light milk chocolate. Weirdoes. On the other hand, if someone sends my mom chocolate candies for Easter or Mother's Day, she always gives them to me. The only thing better than great chocolate is FREE great chocolate!
