Black Lagoon

The first episode by Shinsen subs came out today.

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/7...klagoon3hf.jpg

When Okajima Rokuro visits Southeast Asia carrying a top secret disk, he is kidnapped by pirates riding in the torpedo boat, “Black Lagoon”. Although he thought he would be rescued soon, the company actually abandons him, and sends mercenaries to retrieve the secret disk. He narrowly escapes with his life, but has nowhere to go. He gives up his name and past, and resolves to live as a member of the Black Lagoon.
AnimeInfo

Hey guys, the anime is pretty interesting. There is no ecchi bs, lots of action and war stuff. Opening is freakin awesome. in a way it reminds me of Cowboy Bebop (only a crazier version of it). The ED has no singing but you'll get drawn into it. So far, its not disappointing me. I await the 2nd episode.

Sonovabitch!!! I gotta go download this right now!!! When was this out?!

Heh, anyway, I enjoyed the first volume of the manga that was released by Akatsukimanga a while back and I'm really looking forward to seeing this as well. Despite the skimpy outfit of the lead female character, Levy, the story had practically no ecchi in it, which was a surprise. No fanservice either, which is cool since Levy is pretty fucking crazy when she starts shooting.

Ha ha, I gotta go start downloading!!!!

chato Apr 15, 2006 08:11 AM

The subs from shinsen came out yesterday so you're ok.

lemonmanko Apr 15, 2006 12:16 PM

i liked it had a "im a bad ass" feeling to it
will give this one a couple of tries before i drop it

Kanji Apr 15, 2006 04:11 PM

Pretty intense. :megaman:

It definitely grabbed my attention. The animation is done quite well, and the story seems quite promising. I was also expecting some ecchi stuff because of the way Levi looks - cool (also semi-disappointing, if I'm to be honest :( ) to see that there wasn't, though. The music in the OP and ED weren't too shabby either.

I'll be watching more episodes of this as they are released!

Kimchi Apr 15, 2006 04:31 PM

This anime is not kind of anime I normally watch, but hell... it was good. But still it didn't fit in to my taste quiet right... Man, what's that guy's name? The buisnessman? I wish he would just accept the situation and that he will have to cope with the "terrorists" to get out of that sticky situation since he knows that the disk was supposted to be taken.(I don't remember their name so i call them terrorists >.>)

Kanji Apr 15, 2006 07:31 PM

It seems that they're pirates of some sort at this point, but it's possible that they're just using a boat for the time being. Then again, piracy isn't restricted to people performing illegal deeds for money on ships/boats, right? I guess we'll see as the episodes unfold.

I can't really blame Okajima for acting the way he did, though. If I suddenly got thrown into a harsh world of violence and illegitimacy, completely the opposite of my usual business life, I'd probably be a little panicky as well, rofl..
It seems like he may just be on the way to coping with the others soon though, judging on his actions by his actions in the last few seconds of the episode. He's not totally submissive either, as evidenced by the scene in the bar. I'll be interested to see what changes he goes through, if any.

Shenlon Apr 16, 2006 08:13 AM

wtf happened to my previous post o_0
Anyhow, I just saw it and I'm definitly sticking with this series. The first episode was just freakin great so I can't wait to see the rest.

xblahx Apr 16, 2006 05:28 PM

Anyone have this on a FTP or know where i can dl it by means of HTTP? I've been having probems with my BT recently.

chato Apr 16, 2006 05:47 PM

no prob. i'll sendspace it.

hikarub Apr 20, 2006 11:45 AM

Ha ha, finally got round to watching this episode. Cool action - Levy kicks ass!!! My only gripe is that they ended the episode too early. I thought it would end with.......
Spoiler:
....the crew of the Black Lagoon making it back to Balalaika with the disc and Rock dissin' his supervisor and joining Dutch and gang. I guess the big fight with the mercenaries in the gunship will be made longer to fill up another episode.

I can't wait for Roberta to show up, talk about MAD DOG!!!!

Good times are coming.....

hikarub Apr 23, 2006 01:14 PM

Episode 2 is out now. Haven't seen it yet but I'll probabaly watch it during my lunch break today later at work. Should be good!! :D

Shenlon Apr 23, 2006 02:23 PM

I just saw it. Rock hardly fits in but he so funny that way.

Spoiler:
The idea he came up with was so insane but the rocket that hit that dudes face was so awsome. "I fucked you" <^>^_^<^>

The next episode looks like nice one as well.

hikarub Apr 27, 2006 01:08 AM

Next episode will have some serious dancing and I'm anticipating a rockin' tune to boot. I hope they keep the song they refer to in the manga, I'd love to hear what it sounds like while....
Spoiler:
.....Levy blows away a whole pirate fleet while listening to this song (Rob Zombie, I think it was).

Also hope to see Balalaika in her more meaner mood.

This episode is gonna rock!

Yuna Apr 27, 2006 11:47 AM

It surely sounds interesting. Since you said it looks like Cowboy Bebop, I'll definetly give it a try.

hikarub May 2, 2006 11:17 AM

Episode 3 is out now. Downloading it but the torrent seems to be moving pretty slowly........ :(

zzeroparticle May 3, 2006 12:13 PM

3rd episode was very cool and you see a lot of character to character interaction, especially with Rock and Levy. The emphasis is still on the action though with the ship chase scenes. It's just awesome to see Levy in action pulling off all sorts of crazy shit while being armed to the teeth. The way she mercilessly slaughters people is both awe-inspiring and pretty whacked.

Furthermore, I really liked the way they illustrated how politics worked in cities that are run by modern-day pirates and what they do to people who move in on their turf (sort of like gang activity in urban zones, but on a grander scale). Balalaika is one force to be reckoned with.

hikarub May 4, 2006 05:38 AM

The music was a bit of a disappointment. I guess I was expecting something cooler (since I read the manga) but the action was cool. Levy's twirling of the grenade launcher before firing the last shot was nifty.

Balalaika is scary when she has to be. I would still like to know more about her history though. She must've been in the Russian armed forces before setting up her "Hotel Moscow", in the manga she sometimes refers to her men by rank rather than by name. And she wears that coat, which looks like it's Russian military issue.

Next episode is gonna be weird 'cause I've no idea what to expect story-wise. It isn't in the manga (at least not in volume 1).

Firefly May 4, 2006 09:30 AM

I think I'll have to check this out; it sounds nuts-in-a-good-way.

Well, episode 4 was out last week and episode 5 was released just recently too. Looks like Shinsen Subs are on a streak or something!! So, it looks like episodes 4 & 5 are following volume 2 of the manga, which was a surprise to me since I thought they'd be following the manga to the letter - which they did for episodes 1 - 3. Pity, 'cause I was looking forward to seeing Rasta Blasta parts 1 - 3 in anime form. It contains an awesome gun battle and a pretty intense conflict between Levy and a maid.

Heh, you've gotta check it out!

BluencoolX May 28, 2006 12:41 PM

I actually stumbled upon this anime while randomly clicking on this Korean realtime streaming program. After a few minutes into this anime, I was already trying to google the name (since I do not understand Korean) using word combinations like "jap man ship gun anime" to no avail... until the next episode opening started and the 2 words jumped out: BLACK LAGOON. :)

Anyway, this anime looks pretty interesting and I'm gonna follow it. I'll probably get the manga as well... has the manga ended?

hikarub Jun 2, 2006 05:06 AM

The manga is still ongoing as far as I can tell. I think only upto volume 5 has been released in Japan so far.

If you're interested in the scanslations, you should check out Akatsuki-manga who are in the middle of doing volume 2 at the moment. You sould be able to download the first volume if you search around their site for a bit.

Episode 6 has been released already. I've only seen upto episode 5 so I better catch up and watch the latest episode tonight. Looks like more heated action as Levy goes and kicks some Nazi ass!!

BluencoolX Jun 2, 2006 11:17 AM

Since the manga is still ongoing, I think we should be prepared for a typical screwed up anime ending for Black Lagoon, much as I hate to say it. It has happened to so many manga-turned-animes before... I hope for the best, nonetheless.

BluencoolX Jun 6, 2006 01:09 AM

Just saw episode 7. There isn't much action in this episode, it is mainly focused on character development. I liked the way the episode ended when
Spoiler:
Rock lit up Levy's cigarette using his cigarette and then it almost seems like they were gonna kiss but didn't.

I'm also getting the Chinese version of the Black Lagoon manga, since it has already released up to 4 volumes. :)

hikarub Jun 6, 2006 01:09 PM

Episode 8 has already been released by Shinsen Subs, head on over to baka-updates to grab it. Finally we get to see Rasta-Blasta in animated form!! :D

Trigunnerz Jun 6, 2006 01:21 PM

Can someone compile one post (like the very first post) where it lists where we can get all the episodes? And update it periodically so it will be easier to get them?

And just for a side comment, Episode 7 was awesome character development betwee Revy (Rebecca =O!) and Rock. My favorite episode so far. Im really loving this show.

Trigunnerz Jun 6, 2006 10:36 PM

I must say, I'm usually not interested too much in anime, but since someone mentioned how it's like Cowboy Bebop, I decided to watch a few. And I really liked it! I'm kind of suprised it's not that popular.

I must say the ending of episode 7 is a nice ending with the cigarettes. I think it got the message through clearly.

Is there any English translations of the manga?

Ramenbetsu Jun 6, 2006 10:42 PM

Yes but their not very far into it. You can get scanlations at Akatuski:

Ramenbetsu Jun 12, 2006 02:03 PM

Wow, are we the only ones watching this anime trigunnerz? lol anyway, I edited my above post with the new episode as well. I need to look up how long this show is gonna go on for. The animation quality is REALLY good for a 26 episode series but the story seems to look like it could last that long.

Tails Jun 12, 2006 02:12 PM

Nah, I'm watching guys. In fact, it's my 2nd favorite show from the new season.

I've been meaning to comment on how I really like how Rock finally grew a spine back in Episode 7. Things are really, really coming together really well in this anime, and I'm getting ready to watch Episode 9 now. Looks like it's really gonna kick ass.

28Link Jun 12, 2006 02:28 PM

Heh, I'm watching too. This is my fave anime during my recent desire for anime, can't wait for the next one. I'm likeing how Rock and Revi are people from different worlds, and their interaction is what makes it a lot more entertaining.

hikarub Jun 12, 2006 02:43 PM

I don't like how....
Spoiler:
....Rock goes from talking Revy down and becoming her equal in episode 7 to becoming a mouse again in episode 8. Maybe it seems a bit weird since they seemed to have switched things round a bit in relation to the manga (episodes 4 - 6 were in volume 2 and episodes 8 - 10 are in volume 1. I guess episode 7 was also in volume 2 since it wasn't in volume 1).

But yes, the anime is good, and I'm liking each and every episode more and more. I wish the manga would get a move on too though. Akatsuki is taking their sweet time....... >_<

Unfortunately, it's only 12 episodes.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...d=6159&page=25

It looks like it takes the fansub about a week to finish translating.

YeOldeButchere Jun 12, 2006 06:46 PM

I've actually been watching this since the first episode came out. I must say I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's neither a serious, hard to follow anime, nor is it a more colorful, bloodless anime. It's a welcome change of pace.

Sometimes it's just fun to watch Revy make minced meat out of people.

Tails Jun 12, 2006 07:10 PM

Depressing how short the run on this series is gonna be.

HOWEVER, the last few episodes might really be interesting. Hotel Moscow COMING LIKE WHAT. That's going to be awesome.

BluencoolX Jun 12, 2006 09:40 PM

12 episodes only? That is way too short... I was hoping they will include the Japan arc from the 4th volume. :(

Shenlon Jun 26, 2006 10:15 AM

I fell behind on this anime but I'm hopping back on it.
This anime is awsome, its sad to hear that its only 12 episodes. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but the opening single is out. You can get it here

Firefly Jun 27, 2006 11:50 PM

I wonder...

...am I alone in thinking that this series would be excellent source material for a videogame (most likely a third-person action game, as exemplified by Kill.Switch and Everything or Nothing)? Of course, such a game would be better off telling an original story in the BL universe, rather than retelling the series (example: the upcoming Scarface game presumes Tony survived Sosa's assault on his mansion).

28Link Jul 8, 2006 08:08 PM

What happened to this series, it seems like it died after ep 9. ;_: With only 12 episodes, I was hoping to watch the last 3 eps. Did the subbing group stop working on it, or did it stop airing?

hikarub Jul 8, 2006 08:27 PM

Well, episode 12 has already aired in Japan (the raw has been out since June 25th). Looks like it's just upto Shinsen Subs to get around to putting their subs out. Mind you, they have quite a few other projects on hand so you may need to give them a little more time. They're still actively working on Ergo Proxy, Blood +, Gun x Sword and a few others as well.

Heh, thanks for the info. At least it was aired, so the chance of getting subbed are still there. I'm currently watching Shinsen Sub's Ergo Proxy too, so I can see the amount of effort they go through for each project.

YeOldeButchere Jul 25, 2006 12:28 AM

For those interested, and who haven't heard of it yet, it appears there will be a second season for Black Lagoon.

I'm as happy as Revy after getting a new gun.

Yuna Jul 25, 2006 08:44 AM

I started watching it today and the first epsiode is great ! Good animation, characters with unique personalities. Too bad it's only 12 e[isodes, if it turns out to be like Cowboy Bebop it should have more episodes.

I'm downloading the rest of the episodes, and I'm wondering what happens to the main character (supposing it's the "guy with the disk", sorry I forgot his name)

Shenlon Jul 25, 2006 08:56 AM

awsome a second season. All I need to do now is watch 9-12
I already have 9 but been to lazy to watch it. Shinsen better not give up on me ;_;

astroinfinity Jul 25, 2006 01:03 PM

Episode 10 from Shinsen-Subs is out. Man, Revy is hot. I think I watch it only for her.

hikarub Jul 26, 2006 07:23 AM

Man, finally!! Shinsen Subs got off from their Blood+ marathon and decided to get back to Black Lagoon for a change. Hopefully, they'll finish off episodes 11 and 12 as well and not leave us in another lurch. It's been over a freakin' month since they released episode 9!!!

Get it here: [Shinsen-Subs]_Black_Lagoon_10_[DB3017D8].avi.torrent

I hope they get round to continuing Ergo Proxy as well.

I'll comment on the episode once I've finished downloading it.

28Link Jul 27, 2006 02:16 PM

Ep 10 is pretty good, I like how they added a sort of back story/flashback to the manga, and also added more action.

My only gripe with this translation release:
Spoiler:
is Revy's lines when she's stepping out of the car, telling Rock not to interfere.

I think the manga translation version was clearer. Aside from that, it's a great job, and quite enjoyable.

Something that struck me as weird....
Spoiler:
.....in the manga, Revy is actually shot through the shoulder in the bar scene before being carried to the car for their escape. The bullet was armor-piercing so it dragged her into the wall where she got concussed. In the anime, she isn't shot but is still knocked out when in close range to a concussion grenade. However, when Revy wakes up to take on Roberta, she tells Rock she's gonna pay for the bullet she put in her. What bullet?!

Otherwise, a good episode (waited for it long enough though, otherwise it'd probably be better). Next 2 episodes look like they'll be full of action as well.

Can't wait!!

lemonmanko Jul 28, 2006 02:14 AM

Yeah, I noticed that too, but oh well, at least I know the reason for that line. Damn anime inconsistencies.

slayer25k Aug 10, 2006 08:07 AM

Well - this anime got me definitely!

I really like the story and the character ;) I'm about to watch ep.3 and I'm yet excited about the second season!

About the manga - well - At least I don't care at the moment what the differences are ;)

BlackLagoon is finally an anime, which isn't hard to follow and deadly earnest yet not hyper-happy motley.

It's quite cool watching it - even the opening and the ending - just great

Firefly Aug 10, 2006 03:29 PM

You chaps are aware episode eleven has been unleshed, yes? Feel free to scarf it up.

28Link Aug 10, 2006 04:23 PM

I watched ep 12 already, subbed by another group. I have to say, while the action stuff and stuff was good, it didn't really feel like a conclusion to a season at all. Oh well, looking forward to season 2.

Greykin Aug 13, 2006 03:52 PM

Oh man, episode 9 was so freaking awesome. I'm trying to get the rest of the season, but the secondary tracker page is down. Can anyone link me to episodes subbed from Shinsen after episode 9?

EDIT: Ah, nevermind :(, that doesn't work either.

Firefly Sep 1, 2006 11:39 PM

And we have tuneage!

Reconnaissance has confirmed that Nipponsei is among several entities who have delivered this unto us.

Yume Sep 2, 2006 12:28 PM

That is a great soundtrack, I actually got into Black Lagoon only a few days ago and managed to grab the entire series really quickly.

Just my luck that they only recently released this soundtrack, I swear the "Tear drops to Earth" song comes right out of a SimCity game every time I listen to it.
