Ergo Proxy

All i have to say was HOLY SHIT. this show looks like its going to be AWSOME!
Now, since i really have no idea of whats going on yet( have great petintual) i will steal from ANN
http://image2.sina.com.cn/dongman/cr...2576038035.jpg
Plot Summary: In a world where humans and androids, known as autoraves, live in relative peace, there exists a domed city named "Romudo". Under the implementation of complete management control, it is a paradise where feelings are literally discarded, and the governing council dictates the way of life the citizens should live. But this utopian landscape is soon broken by a series of mystifying murders. Lir Mayer, a female inspector from the Citizen Information Bureau, along with her autorave partner Iggy, are tasked to solve the murder cases. She is soon attacked by a creature drawn to her which is neither human nor android, and learns about the mysterious phenomena called "Awakening", an event which draws her further into the case...and to the world beyond the limits of Romudo.

It is deffently for the more mature audience...

The animation is SMOOTH, SEXY and KICK ASS, the charator design looks very simaler to WHR, but if you didnt like that, dont let this discurage you. THIS SHOW LOOKS AWSOME!

Ok this show looks really promising. The amimation is AMAZING. The quality is excellent and the characters seem interesting. I can't wait for episode 2!

Paco Mar 3, 2006 12:33 AM

I had a thread following the progress of this anime a while back.

Anyway... Now that I've seen the first episode I can say that my expectations were more than exceeded. The story is as concealed as possible and the animation is top notch. As if that wasn't enough, Det. Lil Meier is one assertive and sexy figure; that alone is good enough to keep me watching this.

I can't wait until episode 2. :D

Yggdrasil Mar 3, 2006 01:01 AM

Anime certainly looks promising, although the first episode kind of leaves you dazed and confused about the plot. But yes, the anime looks great, although Lil (or Lir w/e floats your boat) reminds me of Evanescence.

CloudNine Mar 3, 2006 01:15 AM

I watched the first episode the other day. I really had no idea what was going on the entire time.

That's what I don't like about some animes. I wish they would at least give a little back story to what things are before they start diving right into the story. I didn't know what those robot things were or this disease that seems to be infecting them. I don't know what Lil is doing, what she is working for or who she is searching for. I don't know what those things that jumped down at the end of the episode were.

That being said, I think it is very beautifully done and has an environment that could breed great potential. I'll have to wait and see a few more episodes and hope that the plot takes better shape. There isn't much that I'm watching right now, so I will probably be keeping an eye on this.

Outlaw Mar 3, 2006 01:55 AM

Just watched the first episode....I must agree it does look like it has potental. I've been waiting to see this after someone posted the link to the site on the Samurai Champloo community on LJ. Personaly, I kind of like first episodes not having a backstory...but like I said its just me.

It's kind of like Ghost in the Shell meets Witch Hunter Robin meets I Robot....that is if you can compare it to anything. Can't wait for the second episode :D !

chato Mar 3, 2006 05:37 AM

this anime is alright. i just hope it gets better. i mean who hasn't seen a girl with a gun before? but if its the creator of champloo like it says in the site then i'll try to watch it some more.

Luceid Mar 3, 2006 10:42 AM

I'll be getting the first episode later today, and expect that more groups grab it, unless it's licensed already. Still, the trailer looks just too awesome to let it skip. Probably the most interesting series this season.

I noticed... Let's never bring this up again. OK?

Peter Mar 3, 2006 11:13 AM

Lucy, it was pre-liscensed, but I still think that there will be enough groups to take it on. I'm waiting for Anime-Kraze, who'll also do it, I think, since they released the trailer. Let's just hope that the licenser won't go around sending C&D letters.

Roph Mar 3, 2006 11:25 AM

I'm not even really an anime fan of sorts (I've only watched one other anime which would be Chobits) but ever since seeing that girl in somebody's signature AGES ago I've been mildly interested. I'm getting episode 1 right now; will report back after it's done and I've watched it =)

Casaubon Mar 3, 2006 02:38 PM

I thought it was okay, the only exceptional thing was of course the animation. I didn't like Champloo as much as I thought I would, but this is a totally different everything, so I hope this one is better then Champloo.

Shenlon Mar 3, 2006 03:05 PM

I saw the preview episode that aired which I'm guessing was the first episode.
The flow of the animation was great and the similarities with champloo were definitly noticible. I just hope the story doesn't get too boring or complicated becuase only the animation is memorable.

YeOldeButchere Mar 3, 2006 04:20 PM

Just watched the first episode. As everyone said, the animation is great. But I'm not sure if I'll actually like the series. I usually don't mind most, in fact I'm rather fond of, "dark" or "mature" anime (or however you'd call it). But judging from the first episode it's probably not going to be the most memorable anime I've seen, though if it'll turn out great or no good for me is probably something I won't be able to tell until I've seen a few more episodes.

Of course I might be completely wrong, I suppose the first episode isn't always a very good indication of how the others will be.

Cobra Mar 4, 2006 12:38 AM

Warning : this is high quality. I waited long for this anime, and it's even better than I expected. Looks like a little bit Aeon Fluxish, with a bit of Blade Runner. First episode approved.

chato Mar 4, 2006 07:45 AM

when i saw the first episode, didn't really put me in awe like they did with champloo. when i saw the first episode of Ep, im all "i see..well i hope the rest of it gets better" . You can expect anything thats coming out of this anime cause we've seen something like it. designs, etc is good. i hope the story doesn't equal the same shit like aeon flux or blade runner u.u..

also : the ed theme is out.. the ED is ok..

I don't think it's the creator of Champloo (Shinichiro Watanabe), I think it's just the production company, Manglobe.

Well Murase and Sato did Storyboard, Episode Director and Script respectivly for Champloo and Onda did charator design for WHR(like i said the charactor design looks like WHR's :p) But yes, the Main Director and Screenplay both worked on Champloo, so you can say in a way it is from the creators of Champloo...

Ekon Mar 4, 2006 10:20 PM

Just watched this, didn't really know what was going on, but the art does look very nice indeed. Reminded me of Aeon Flux strangely, and maybe its just me but that image in the first post reminds me of Natsuki from Mai Hime heh. Hopefully the future episodes won't be as confusing as more of the plot is revealed.

Spatula Mar 4, 2006 10:41 PM

I finished the first episode and I'm really not too sure what's going on. I found that Karas was easier to follow. Sure the visuals are nice, but I'm probably going to put this on the back burner for now. It's not bad, but perhaps I'm not quite in the mood for this series now.

alkaline Mar 5, 2006 03:42 AM

Just got finished with the first episode myself and I thought it was awesome. It started off pretty disjointed and confusing, but after the first 10 minutes or so it got on track and I loved it.

I'll definitely be following this one. I'm the opposite of Spatula at the moment. I'm coming off of Ichigo Mashimaro and following KashiMashi ~ Girl Meets Girl ~, so a hot, gun toting girl with awesome make-up is just what I needed :D

Oh, and the credits sequence?

Spoiler:
As soon as I heard "Paranoid Android", I shouted "AW HELL NAW!" Good stuff.

UltimaIchijouji Mar 5, 2006 05:12 AM

I watched the first episode with no sound and no subs (pretty much skimmed through). The animation was indeed nice, but given my current situation I can't say anything about the story.

Geneon doesn't normally skimp on animation (see: Eureka seveN), but there's always that small possibility that this'll be one of those series where the first episode has brilliant animation but the following episodes have some of the worst animation seen in an anime (see: Speed Grapher).

Let's just hope they didn't bust their budget on episode one.

jouhou Mar 6, 2006 12:56 AM

I just skimmed through the first episode and it looks pretty good.
Nice animation although some scenes are too dark to see what's going on, like in the beginning.
The credit roll is something new and interesting too.

B4-Hunter Mar 6, 2006 04:31 AM

I just got it and I have to say I'm imressed. Creators of Samurai Champloo are like insurance for the great plot and awesome action in Ergo Proxy. Main character Rill is sexy and so... miesterius. Cold and furious... I love her =D!!

What about FanSub releases? Witch are the best cause I don't want to mix release and get all episodes made by one FanSub team. I have:

[Y-F&A-U] Ergo Proxy 01 [FF7BBBA2].avi

There are: [Jelly caption team], [Kiavik], [AU], [DS-WZF] and a lot more...

So witch one is the best?

with the first episode i was like eh.. its doesn't have a good plot but the art is sexy as hell just like Samurai Champloo
doesn't matter i'll still keep up with it
im prepared to be taken on a ride don't let me down Ergo Proxy :p

Um, it's been out since 1997.

Hello, people?
It's the epic "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead (from the album OK Computer).

When I heard it at the end of the episode, a big smile came across my face.

Peter Mar 6, 2006 01:11 PM

Haha, I even heard people on other boards thinking that Radiohead had a new song. It's funny that the people saying that also say that they are the group's biggest fans.

espressivo Mar 6, 2006 08:23 PM

Where do you get the episodes? off any random torrent sites?? A link to the fansubber's site would be appreciated.

edit: bleh nvm, i should've read the first post. anyway i still want a direct link to the fansubbers site! :P

xen0phobia Mar 6, 2006 08:26 PM

http://www.tokyotosho.com/ - good for pretty much any new anime... bookmark it. Pick whichever one you want, but only 1 episode is out so far.

Peter Mar 7, 2006 05:31 AM

I've finally watched the first episode, and I'm still a little sceptic, but it looks awfully promising. Since I didn't bother reading anything about the story before watching, I was pretty much clueless for the first half of the episode. I don't really like Ril/Lir or whatever the chick's called, design, but the overall setting is nice. I prefer the future world that Ghost in the Shell presents us though.

B4-Hunter Mar 7, 2006 05:48 AM

Same here. I just didn't know what they ware talking about... I was even wondering if it's first episode. Well I have seen 2nd one on isohunt but it can be RAW or Fake...

Kamui Mar 7, 2006 10:11 AM

CUrrently downloading the torrent of the OP but it is rather slow (damn you campus network!)

How many groups are planning on fansubbing this particular serie?

B4-Hunter Mar 7, 2006 05:30 PM

Well I just fallow the leader right now:

[Y-F&A-U]_Ergo_Proxy_01_(1280x720)_(H264-Vorbis)_[F86AB65B]

The best out there now =)

espressivo Mar 8, 2006 07:58 PM

I just saw the first episode, I gotta say it's very interesting. I was confusing watching it the first time though, and after reading the summary and watching it again i kinda know what's going on. I love the animation and the whole mood of the anime. I don't know if it'll be good but the least i can say is it's very interesting.

Paco Mar 8, 2006 10:42 PM

I see that most are already kind of griping about how slowly this anime is developing. I understand where this is coming from though; the story is VERY underdeveloped at this point and the plot already seems to be spread too thin over so much area...

I'm hoping these assumptions will ring false in the future because the potential for story, plot and character development are already laid out in plain view. Now it only has to HAPPEN.

Peter Mar 9, 2006 04:28 AM

It's only a first episode people, it's natural that you don't have a clue to what's going on. Just wait a couple of episodes, I'm sure that there will be clarifications.

B4-Hunter Mar 9, 2006 04:34 AM

Someone know where I can get Codec for this: [Y-F&A-U]_Ergo_Proxy_01_(1280x720)_(H264-Vorbis)_[F86AB65B] release? I have only sound and I really want this one then lower resolution.

CCCP, works every time...or just use VLC player

Mucknuggle Mar 9, 2006 07:52 AM

Now this show has STYLE. I watched the first episode last night and it's got me very interested. The animation and character designs are great and the story looks like it's going to be very interesting. The only problem was that the fansubbing was pretty bad. I hope one of the well established groups picks this series up and does a good job.

B4-Hunter Mar 9, 2006 04:40 PM

xen0phobia Mar 9, 2006 08:42 PM

CCCP...RULES! VLC is pretty tight too. I always have both installed ;) ... Downloading episode 2 now... Can't wait to watch it.

Matt Mar 10, 2006 12:25 PM

I just watched the first episode.
Kind of confusing if you ask me, it's almost like they were shoving stuff down the viewer's throats just to be "edgy" and "sci fi" or something. I enjoyed it nonetheless. :)

Unfortunately the version I downloaded, the one linked in the first post, didn't have the ED so I wasn't able to hear Radiohead.
I have the feeling that this show is just a combination of all of those "what is alive?" ideas that we've seen before in science fiction. Themes most notably seen in Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner.

Still, I like the animation so I'll have to watch a few more episodes before I decide to either continue watching it or write it off as a knock-off of something I've already seen.

Yeah CCCP rul and now 1280 resolution 1st Episode is working!! Got 2nd one and about to watch it now =).

nazpyro Mar 10, 2006 01:59 PM

I finally got around to watching the first episode. I'll watch the second when I get time later.

Holy crap, my mind is blown. It's enticing, and I don't have a general fucking clue what's going on, and it makes me want more. That's great. Mad enticing.

B4-Hunter Mar 10, 2006 02:50 PM

Just watched 2nd episode and have to say that they don't give us much action there. We are getting more info about the plot it self and situation in Ergo Proxy world. We even get action like from 1st Episode from Elfen Lied. It's getting better and better =).

alkaline Mar 10, 2006 02:55 PM

I watched the second episode while riding the train to work this morning.

It's still pretty slow, but very intriguing. I'm still wanting to know where this is all going so I'll be sticking around. I just wish it wasn't so vague at times.

B4-Hunter Mar 10, 2006 05:43 PM

Few wallpapers from Ergo Proxy made by B4 =)

Mucknuggle Mar 10, 2006 06:09 PM

Episode two was pretty interesting. It explained things a bit, but I'm still lost. The show has potential though. Oh, and it ends on a HUGE cliffhanger. Not fair.

Roph Mar 10, 2006 06:23 PM

I am about to watch Episode 1 followed by Episode 2 =DD

I couldn't before thanks to computer gayness and only having audio and no video but now my problem is FIXED.

Paco Mar 11, 2006 12:44 AM

Oh my god, you lucky fucks... I can't even get this damn episode 2 to download quickly enough!

xen0phobia Mar 11, 2006 01:45 AM

In my opinion this series is going to be awesome... The artwork, story, and characters are all interesting and good. This is the series to watch this spring.

Only thing is that there is not much ACTION!! More action people!!

Just finished episode 2 and it's getting better and better :P

Anyone noticed the drop in animation quality? Not drastic but still a loss over the first episode.

I dunno. I am rather content with not too much action.
Its the mere fact of the lack therof which causes a bit of tension in the viewers, and thus increases the pleasure of watching it.

I actually Hunter I meant loss of animation quality from the studio than the fansub :D

I felt that there was less effort (and money) put into episode 2 :)

Roph Mar 12, 2006 02:21 PM

I just finished watching episode 2 and AM HARD over the Episode 3 downloading now :tpg:

Spoiler:
Anybody have any ideas as to what that orb is that Lil finds in her appartment right at the end? =D

Fjordor Mar 12, 2006 03:05 PM

Spoiler:
The necklace that Vincent Law was wearing that Lil pointed out to him(the cross) was in that orb. Just want to let you know that no one yet knows the significance of that thing. I just finished watching episode 3, and although I am a bit sketchy on the details, as my Japanese isn't that good, I think we still aren't told the meaning of it. That is all I will say. I won't spoil it for anyone else. :D

Paco Mar 12, 2006 06:10 PM

Is there a group that's specifically dedicated to sub this yet?

This is really the only thing I hate about pre-licensed properties... We all get screwed in the end... :/

Roph Mar 13, 2006 05:41 PM

I KNEW I would have a use for this little thing someday. I set this up like 4 MONTHS ago.

Ergo Proxy Episode 3 owned but lacking subtitles

Admiral Amara Mar 14, 2006 12:45 PM

I just watched both Ep. 1 and 2 today. I have two sets of three words:

OH. HELL. YES.

also,

PARANOID. EFFIN'. ANDROID.

Seriously. When Ep. 2 ended and I heard that familiar guitar pattern start, I was ecstatic. It's too perfect. :D

And as for this anime, it is so badass. Ep. 1 made my head spin, and that's hard to do, though I think I'm starting to get a lot of it now. I think the animation is fluid, the action stylized just right for jaw-dropping sequences (such as the mall), and characters and organizations with obvious secrets that we don't know.

Spoiler:
So, what up with Vincent? Any theories? He's got a secret, clearly, and I don't think it's that he's fast wtih a gun and friends with some dope named Cloud.

Also, my sincerest thanks to everybody with Ergo Proxy av/sigs. That's a lot of why I checked it out. You guys are awesome. :D

Luceid Mar 14, 2006 06:37 PM

A familiar subbing group popped up now, and it was fucking time: Anime-Kraze. They'll be subbing the series too, and well, I'm not much of a group whore, but it's always good to have a backup in case another one retires. I have seen which is the best group at the moment, in public opinion, but gonna give Kraze's subs a chance.

I'll join to the Ergo Proxy ava/sig chain pretty soon. <_<

B4-Hunter Mar 15, 2006 04:35 AM

Thanks :D

nazpyro Mar 15, 2006 11:41 AM

I just watched the second episode, and I actually enjoyed it a lot better. I followed it more than I did the first episode, and while I still have no idea what's going on, I love the air of conspiracy and deceit and such. This show is slick. I love it I love it. Can't wait until I can watch the next... in a few hours...

Roph Mar 15, 2006 12:19 PM

Oh YES.

xen0phobia Mar 15, 2006 12:56 PM

Good news. I was informed that the RAW for the new HD versions are getting a filesize upgrade and some quality KAA like filters. 230MB isn't enough for HD imo, so its all good.

Kamui Mar 15, 2006 04:01 PM

Episode 3 watched

Spoiler:
Something doesn't add up. How did Vincent escape Proxy in the mall? That was not explained in episode 3 and we're launch straight into the police chasing him! Why did he open his eyes when I faced the Proxy in the mall? BLEH

B4-Hunter Mar 15, 2006 05:00 PM

Well HD TV verion is usually out 5-6 days after normal version. It's in MKV and 1280x720 resolution. In my signature you have HD TV version of 2nd Episode and Normal version or 3rd one. 60% of Episode 3 so far.

Roph Mar 15, 2006 06:31 PM

Spoiler:
I'm also wanting to know how he managed to escape from the end of episode 2; he was cornered!. Although, maybe the "dreamy" sequence at the beginning of episode 3 explains it. Proxy got him but decided to let him live. Remember something walking off the train as Vincent wakes up o_0

I am ofically HOOKED.

B4-Hunter Mar 15, 2006 07:34 PM

Opening Theme: "kiri" by MONORAL
Ending Theme: "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead

Finaly we have Opening!! It's.... AWESOME!! Need this track!!

As for the Episode it self as I was asking for action... her I got it =D A LOT of it!!

Another episode will be called Ergo Proxyâ„¢ Episode 4: Futu-risk.

galen Mar 15, 2006 08:43 PM

So uh, is anyone else's audio way out of sync on episode 2?

Fjordor Mar 15, 2006 08:49 PM

Use VLC Player. This sort of problem I believe is discussed earlier in this thread. We don't know what is up, but the syncronization is solved in that player, and one other.

Spoiler:
In regards to episode 3, yes, they do not explain how exactly he got away from the Proxy. However, I suspect it has more something to do with an unknown underlying link that he has with Proxy, that is obviously not explained.

YeOldeButchere Mar 15, 2006 09:07 PM

At the beginning of the thread, after watching episode 1, I said I didn't know if I'd actually like Ergo Proxy. Well, after three episodes, I can say I definitely like it. It felt like episode three only lasted 10 minutes though. :(

Well I don't know it either but he was able to run from him all the time so he could jut open the door that had stuck at the end and run in to the metro station. Then get back on train and faint.

or

Proxy got him and make him fall a sleep. But it wasn't Proxy he was dreaming about it was his 2nd form that we saw earlier in Lil's bathroom. Besides we finally saw his real eyes and they look weird...

Forsety Mar 16, 2006 09:46 PM

I actually have everyone's sigs/avatars to thank for this, too. I wasn't too interested after watching the first episode but seeing the links to 2/3 in B4-Hunter's sig convinced me to download them anyway and I'm glad I did. I'll definitely be keeping up with it if the episodes keep getting better like Episode 3 did.

Bradylama Mar 19, 2006 12:09 PM

Well, 3 episodes in and this show still kinda sucks.

Quote:

Imagine Witch Hunter Robin only set in a futuristic Distopia, and without witches. Ergo Proxy in a nutshell. With characters you could never care about, and a world so morose and depressing, it's a wonder why people even get the green light for this stuff.

Ergo Proxy is a Cyberpunk show set in a futuristic domed city, which is a "Communistic," I guess, society that considers itself a Utopia, though from the perspective of the viewer, it is a Dystopia. This boring Utopia is ruled by an old man in a Hannibal Lecter mask, four talking statues, and has some departments that don't really get much screentime, and you're not even sure ever do.

There's one character, and another character, and another character. They're all very boring, and you won't care about any of them. The protagonist is some chick whose name I forget, and you know it's her because she's got tons of eyeshadow. Her partner, Iggy, is an autorave, which is bound to be a meaningless term to make you think that these things aren't just androids. Autoraves are androids. Did I give that away?

The only other character worth mentioning, is some guy named Law, and he wears a red suit and walks around with his eyes closed. He was chased by the boogeyman, and now he's being chased by the Po Po. It's not clear why he's being chased, even to himself. Which is phenomenal for the viewer. I think he's dead now. Which was great, because he was the only character who was even remotely interesting.

The boogeyman is some monster, that isn't human, or an autorave, but it can kill people easily. They're called Proxies for some reason, and I use the word "They" because there's two of them, one of which has only showed up once in three episodes. They attacked Gothy McTitties and the show revolves around them existing. WEEEEEEEEEEEEE

If it seems like I don't know what's going on, you'd be absolutely right. The plot is unveiled through increadibly vague dialogue that would make the creators of Evangelion blush. Meaning that while teenagers and virgins think it's deep and mysterious, it makes me want to reverse the continuum of space and time to a point where I could have elected not to watch this show and waste my life.

What Ergo Proxy does have going for it is great art, and character design. Unfortunately, all of the art is bleak and depressing, and all of the characters wear black. This kind of art direction works great for Cyberpunks like Blade Runner, which are feature-length, but for something that could potentially go on for 14 hours, it is BOOOORING. There is no color in this show. Everything in the world is black, silver, grey, or sand. Combine that with a soundtrack that sounds like a Boards of Canada album, and this show is boring.

I suppose the ultimate problem with the show is it's pacing. There is none. Everything blends in seamlessly with the next scene, often leaving the viewer disoriented, and unaware of the plot progression before him. Things happen that go entirely unnoticed. I mean, this show makes the death of a baby boring. Infanticide, inaffective. Nothing exciting. Again, thanks to that Boards of Canada soundtrack, which is either morose and wailing, or more often than not, isn't even playing.

Wow is this show boring.
I'd like to think this'll get better, but as was the case with Witch Hunter Robin, I highly doubt it. And wow is it boring.

This series looks pretty sweet. Should be a lot of twists ;)

Just watched episode 4.

I continue to <3 Pino. Comic relief? more liek cuteness relief :p. And Joe Bush? Bush, eh... Interesting. I also like how the series increased the level of sexy. Good stuff.

I like the way this series is progressing. The plot pace is perfect. I'm so fucking confused, but I don't care. It's mystifyingly awesome.

And the end of the episode... ?_?

Roph Mar 25, 2006 02:49 PM

OK I've just finished watching Episode 4.
Spoiler:
Hmm, so there's life outside the city dome thing. It has an uncanny resemblance to the film "The Island". So what's going to happen to vince now? I wanna know. I guess I just have to wait and see :(.

B4-Hunter Mar 25, 2006 05:26 PM

Damn 4th Episode was HOT!! This dark power and everything!! Man I have to see another!!

P.S
Goint to test [AU] release...

espressivo Mar 31, 2006 05:24 PM

I just saw episode 4. I was surprised at the end of the episode since I was so used to the cliff hanger endings at the end of the last 3 episodes, it was kinda weird ending the episode suddenly like that. Well, anyway good episode, it answered some of my questions regarding the proxy.

Paco Apr 1, 2006 05:24 AM

I just watched Ep. 4

Spoiler:
I'm sorry guys... I still have yet to figure out what the "talking statues" symbolize. I mean, are they supposed to be the "highest power"?

hikarub Apr 1, 2006 08:59 AM

This show is pretty cool. I've seen upto episode 4 and it's just getting better and better. Vincent is a pretty interesting character and little Pino is just adorable. It seems she has some kind of connection with Vincent which I hope they'll get around to explaining.

In this episode:
Spoiler:
....it looks like Vincent is this "other" Proxy. His dream-state he was in after escaping the Proxy after him in the mall (in episode 3) seems to suggest another being who seems to be with him but whom he can't see. He's not totally aware on the train but it seems someone left him and he comes back to his senses.

In episode 4 when Lil looks over his living quareters, she finds 2 sets of a towel, toothbrush and toothpaste on either side of the sink, and 2 mugs on either side of the bed. Why two? Was he a kind of schizophrenic?

The map she finds in his room leads her to the lifeless body of the other Proxy. This might be coincidental, but I reckon it was killed by Vincent's Proxy - or by Vincent himself.

Pretty neat!

[Yoroshiku]_Ergo_Proxy_05_[AF279E97]

Ok just finished watching 5th Episode. Have to say it was quite dramatic but nut much "extra" action in it. Brings quite a lot about characters.

nazpyro Apr 6, 2006 03:36 AM

I just watched the 5th episode too. I liked it. Probably even my favorite episode so far. The ending was quite impactful. It also made me go: "holy fuck."

B4-Hunter Apr 6, 2006 03:09 PM

Yeah it's getting better and better =D I can't wait for more and MORE action =D!!

Roph Apr 6, 2006 03:41 PM

Pino is cute =o

Each episode is leaving me wanting more. It seems the release dates are slowing down :( or is that just me?

aku Apr 6, 2006 06:11 PM

They are, they dont have as many working on the project, so they cant get the releases out as fast would be my guess, since its only Yoroshiku now

Yggdrasil Apr 6, 2006 06:19 PM

After seeing episode 5 the first thing that I'm reminded of is the Judge Dredd movie. Nonetheless it now ep 5 and overall backstory details are still quite scarce. *sigh* more waiting I guess.

Sexninja Apr 7, 2006 03:08 PM

That's why i said complete.
I need complete single, but i think it hasn't released yet.

Roph Apr 7, 2006 05:28 PM

I might transcribe a MIDI of the ending music, it's a pretty sweet song (excusing the lyrics -_-) and therefore have it as a ringtone =D

Admiral Amara Apr 8, 2006 12:06 AM

"Paranoid Android" is one of Radiohead's best, and I've grown to love the lyrics (having listened to the whole song many, many times), which are pretty much nonsense out of context. Maybe even in context. They didn't do the song justice, but then again, it's a six-minute, multi-part Alternative masterpiece, so there was no way they could, but it's a fitting song, I think, and you have no idea how happy I was that first time I heard it start. I smiled nice and big.

B4-Hunter Apr 8, 2006 11:50 AM

I still prefer MONORAL - Kiri the Opening song =) I'm looking for full version but don't think I'll find it till May when OST will be released =/

elwe Apr 8, 2006 03:29 PM

I just watched the first four episodes not long ago, and yes, I was rather impressed by the animation, which was amazing. I found the the episodes to be a little slow-moving, although the action and intriguing plot make up for it. Anyways, I'm very curious as to how the series will end up. :) I'll be watching episode 5 in the near future! Hopefully, it won't let me down.

Vincent's a rather interesting character. I'm really looking forward to finding out more about him as the series progresses.

hikarub Apr 9, 2006 12:42 PM

Heh, episode 5 was pretty cool. I agree the ending really had me wanting more...
Spoiler:
.....I can't believe the vessel everyone's talking about is right under everybodies' noses. And I would never have thought that Lil would go all the way outside just to retrieve Vincent. And Proxy's sudden appearance was cool, but I was disappointed that we only had that one brief look at him.

What was with the attack by the Techibi anyway? Were they trying to attack Lil as well, or was it just Vincent overreacting when he saw it swooping in? (like at the end of episode 4?)

splur Apr 13, 2006 10:46 AM

Spoiler:
Kinda got complicated in episode 5, good thing. I'm happy they got Lil back into the plot, was bound to happen sooner or later.

Vince's smile in #4

this may be late in coming, since i was just going through a recap of all episodes subbed so far,
but has anyone else noticed in #4...
Spoiler:
the weird smirk?smile? Vince had right after he shot down the techibi that was hovering over Pino?
that scene where the lower right side of his face was being panned with a blurry shot of Queen in the background.
it doesn’t seem to me that he was happy to have saved Pino but it looked almost sinister to me.

LOYAL TO MOTHER RUSSIA.

Finally viewed episodes 6 & 7. Her real name is "Real" but it seems that wasn't intended to be showed until that scene. Hence, "Lil" sounds correct until then, to avoid spoiling.

I've still to see episode 7 since I've been waiting up on Yoroshiku's subs, though lately it's started to take much more time for their releases to come out.

Can anyone comment on Anime-Jiyuu's work? Are they any good? At least are they as good as Yoroshiku? If so, and they seem to be able to release stuff pretty quickly, I might just have to switch over to them. Yoroshiku just take too damn long now.

All fan sub teams are taking they're damn free time drinking tea instead of HARD WORKING ON TRANSLATION!! I already downloaded RAW Episode 09 and [Yoroshiku] didn't even made 7th one ready... [Anime-Jiyuu] is quite good at it. I have to say that [Y] made more fan friendly names like: Pet-Type Auto-Rave instead of [J] Child-Type... WTF? Pino is rather Pet type then Child Type... but it's all bit twisted. Here you can see a Vs of all (most) of Fansub teams working on Ergo Proxy. I'm not going to switch to [J] but I'll be watching new episodes from they first releasing team.

This is one of the few shows I am actually watching this season. Love the opening song and animation. It has been a good series so far. Mysterious characters, interesting story, and good animation have me in it for the long haul. Manglobe didn't dissapoint with Samurai Champloo and I doubt they will with Ergo Proxy.

I am watching the fansubs in whatever order they come out in first. Choosing one fansub group over another is not something I do unless I am seeing less than desirable subtitles. Whoever is first to release an episode is usually who I go with.

So, is it official what her name is yet? Lil, Ril, Lir, Real, Re-L, Panda Bear? Personally, I prefer Lil as it just sounds more real(pun intended). I know her ID said her name is Real though. Just don't want to accept it yet. I do remember reading that her name is Lir in the English localization though. If I am not mistaken it said so in Newtype-USA.

B4-Hunter May 5, 2006 01:05 AM

Well her real name is Real but you may type it Re-l so it's not so simple. There was many versions same like name of Vans brother in FF XII =) Lex, Reks, Rex Lerx =D.

Rock May 5, 2006 09:26 AM

Shinsen-Subs have released Episode 4 in XviD/MP3 as well as h.264/AAC HD format.

Now there's no doubt that these are the most accurate translations you'll get for Ergo Proxy, since they took their time to research books of a French philosopher who is quoted in the anime.

They also promise to release new episodes more frequently now that this issue has been resolved.

B4-Hunter May 5, 2006 01:34 PM

Well... maybe yes. They didn't even made karaoke of opening and ending... and as far as I can see HERE [Yoroshiku] & [Anime-Jiyuu] only have Nots about unknown words. Only fact that they used proper name of inspector Real.

Which is a huuuuge plus in my book.

That's because they attach these notes at the end of each episode, which is another reason why Shinsen-Subs are top notch when it comes to quality and accuracy:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7...41239ey.th.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9...41525oz.th.jpg

You won't have these in any of the other releases.

Peter May 5, 2006 05:23 PM

I have to agree with rock, although I loathe their policy in general, they put a lot of effort in Ergo Proxy, and it's worth it this time. And why the hell would you need a karaoke for songs in bloody ENGLISH.

Admiral Amara May 5, 2006 11:13 PM

Enkidu: Because it's a well-known fact that Thom Yorke (Radiohead) has carefully developed a singing technique in which he simply produces a series of moans, and accelerates those moans instantaneously through process of practiced caterwaul to specific pitches, and our ears attempt to recognize the various moans and such as words. The karaoke is the closest that linguists could come to analyzing the moans for what words they seem to represent, no matter how haphazard and thrown-together the lyrics may appear.

Just kidding. It's unnecessary, even for Thom Yorke singing the very strange lyrics of that song. It's also hilariously out of context, save the Macintosh Voice program bits; all of the lyrics are part of a larger whole that I regard as brilliant after about, oh, 500 listens. Again, sarcasm. I do love that song, and it really does feel a bit awkward to only play that much of a more than six minute song.

B4-Hunter May 6, 2006 03:12 AM

Hmm I'll try it =)

B4-Hunter, if I ever see another post from you consisting solely of fansub torrent links, you're getting banned from Animespot for a week.

Consider this your formal warning.

I was just about to edit it and post there some info about new episode... but ok ok your the man here. I'll be doing thins AFTER watching new episode.

hikarub May 8, 2006 10:02 AM

Just saw episode 7 by Yoroshiku. I'm just amazed at what's going on here. It's so cool!!! :D

Spoiler:
....so now Vincent and Pino are all alone. One human and an autorave on a vessel heading to Vince's home town, apparently the same place where the other Proxy was brought in from....? What's the secret to this place? What will Vince find there?

Now that a "must be fake" death certificate has been issued, Re-l should be able to move about a little more freely, that is if the director can actually believe Daedalus' deception. So what's next for our heroine? Is she gonna split Romdeau and head out to look for Vincent again? And what was Daedalus on about in the beginning when he mentioned something about Re-l's recuperative powers? Is she beginning to to develop strange powers or something? *gasp* - can she now survive outside?!

Looking forward to the next episode for sure!!!

B4-Hunter May 8, 2006 02:20 PM

I just switched to [Shinsen-Subs] cause of the MOST acurate translation and notes. They have GREAT HD version that I'm actually downloading. As for the newest episodes I download RAW and then [Ani-Jiyuu] but translation is horrible!!

Ok I'm watching Ergo Proxy from the first episode and I noticed few weird things. First it's raport found by Real in episode 04 in Vincent room:
http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/4...90867ig.th.jpg

Date: 02.12.36 on the top and 02.12.306 on the bottom... so witch is real?

Now another thing. At the 2nd page you see Vincent info...
http://img465.imageshack.us/img465/1...93520vh.th.jpghttp://img297.imageshack.us/img297/7...41225xl.th.jpg

Eyes: Blue...? WTF? He have bright green eyes... so whare is the point?

NEWS:
[Anime-Jiyuu] just released episode 09 (latest one). You can grab it here:

Roph May 10, 2006 06:29 PM

Ok so just finished watching 08 and then 09. WHAT THE FUCK.

I'm so confused now ._.

Spoiler:
So there's definately more than a few "proxies" then =0. Was the city where the freaky bisexual drunk is city of proxies then? I want to know exactly what these "proxies" are now. Nice to find out Vince is the Ergo Proxy, so no we have our main character I guess. Up to about episode 3/4 I had him as a side character and Lil/Real more the central one. Though the mystery surrounding Lil leads me to beleive she might have some weird power also. At least.

All I know is I want to see the next episode NOW. But I have to wait ;_;

Peter May 11, 2006 02:18 AM

Hunter, blue and green are often confused in Japanese, so it's an understandable mistake. And could you try to avoid grammar mistakes? It seems like you are getting progressively worse, and I don't remember you being that bad on the old boards.

Spoiler:
As for the latest EP episodes, I'm rather disappointed. First of all, where's Real? In alll the images and trailers that where released before the show aired, we saw Real, only her, so one would assume that she would be the main character. No problem with that in the beginning, but now we only see more and more of Vincent, who is a pretty whiny boring guy imo.

The second problem is that explaining Vincent's reasoning behind travelling to Moscow was poorly executed. I for one was rather bored with the whole thing outside of Romdeau, and I couldn't care less for the characters that died, and the plot just didn't seem to move forward.

Now the biggest disappointment happened in the latest episodes. We suddenly find out that Proxy is nothing more than a monster, complete with a lame transformation and all. Nothing about the government project that it seemed to be in the beginning, no more mysteries behind it, in short, a total disappointment. The transformation bothered me the most, since it is not something that you'd expect in a sci-fi anime. You'd expect a horrible government secret, creepy scientists and an unbelievable explanation, but none of that with just one lousy transformation.

One last point of critique is the music. The soundtrack really doesn't fit the show, music's played at the most awkward moments, but when you could actually use a good theme, like during the proxy battles, it just isn't there. This makes the battles, how good the animation may be, boring and uninspiring.

I'll see if ep 10 can change anything about these views, and if not, I guess that I will be watching one show less this season.

Spoiler:
Yeah there are few Proxies. First was the one from the lab that Vincent killed and Real found his body on infected autorave escape road. Next one is Vincent him self. Emissary of death. Ergo Proxy. Another is (was) the girl he killed in that military base (can't remember the name). Las one is that dude that "love" Vincent but I don't remember witch Emissary he was.

As for Real. I think she's Proxy to. He was created like all the others with Proxy cells in her body.

Spoiler:
Maybe your right. But sometimes story need to be told from different side to make us wait for something that was obvious from the start. Don't you think that Real image in Vincent head just before he was going to be killed doesn't mean something? It may be clue about what will or already happened to Real.

As for the episodes with Vincent I enjoy watching Pino. She's so cute and funny. I just love this "Usagi" think =). I think that EP will be like 26 or 30 episodes so we have a lot more fun before us.

My status for Ergo Proxy is: Hungry for more! =)

lordo May 11, 2006 07:21 AM

@Enkidu

Do you think they'll give up all the secrets that early? Be patient :)

Foshi May 11, 2006 08:15 AM

It seems people want instant satisfaction nowadays. That doesn't bother me though as I like to get to know my characters before a lot of shit hits the fan.

Wow, the animation in this show runs from excellent to craptastic fast. Inconsistency is really getting on my nerves. Anyway, I will stick with it because I like the characters and the story is interesting so far. At least its not your typical sci-fi show. Cyber punk is a good description, but not quite as much as GITS:SAC.

Peter May 11, 2006 09:24 AM

There are already nine episodes out, I don't care about "instant satisfaction". I do think that I can complain about the way that they execute the various revelations, which is very disappointing. And the point is, that you don't get to know the characters. The tidbits that are revealed about them are uninteresting, their motivations seem forced, and overall they don't have a personality. I do like to think that there are some valid points in my criticism.

Rock May 11, 2006 09:55 AM

Well, one of your main points was that Ergo Proxy is not typical sci-fi.

While this may disappoint you, it's one of the things that makes this Anime so unique in my opinion. It's totally unpredictable.

I don't think the execution of revelations so far were disappointing, either. I personally prefer to learn more of the mystery behind the Proxies with each episode rather than having to sit through countless episodes with no real plot developments whatsoever.

You're certainly entitled to criticism, I just found it odd that your main points of criticism are also the very same things that make Ergo Proxy stand out amidst the more generic Animes of this genre.

Peter May 11, 2006 10:28 AM

I'm noty talking about what they are revealing, it's nice to see that they don't lose focus on the main plot, but it's the way that they do it. Take the end of ep 8 for example, where we finally see a battle between two Proxies, something that at least I wanted to see for some time, but the way that they showed it was lame. Animation and all was nice, but the atmosphere just wasn't there. You didn't get the feeling that you were actually watching a battle between two creatures who surpass human abilities. I mainly blame this on the lack of good music, it wasn't until the end of that fight that there was a small tune, but the rest of it was shite.

What other shows would you put in the same genre as EP? an obvious one would be Ghost in the shell SAC, one that you can hardly call a clichéd anime. Maybe I don't watch enough to recognize clichés, but EP really doesn't seem to be that innovative to me.

Hunter, I don't really have any problems with the overall story, just by the way they bring it to us, which could have been done a lot better, to actually make you feel involved in the world. I also don't like how they made it look like Real would be the main character, who actually looked interesting, but the bits we've seen about her are below expectations. ANN says that EP will have 23 episodes btw, and by the way that it's set up, I really doubt that it'll go beyond 26.

B4-Hunter May 11, 2006 10:34 AM

After watching all 09 episodes I didn't had anything to do. I started downloading [Shinsen-Subs] version because of the best translation and notes after almost every episode.

The point is that after watching it knowing what we know already after nine episodes it's damn exiting. You understand a lot of things and can think of new theory.

It's first anime that gives me so much fun watching it again after such a short time. You guys need to try it.

Erm if you want to watch [Ani-Jiyuu] release I can get you link to direct download that is here.

If you can't use BT just switch to IRC. They give much better speed then BT and you can get a lot more.

For those who cannot use IRC or Bittorrent; if you have $10 to spare try Anime-Direct. They have hundreds of anime fansubs for direct download. Since they have dedicated servers the speeds are incredible. I get a steady speed of 700/kbps almost all of the time.

If you know people from all official fansub channels you can get up to 1,5 MB/s! I know few people that are sending me latest episodes. So just stick to IRC and make friends =D.

Blades Of Ice May 13, 2006 03:21 PM

One question for all of you currently watching Ergo Proxy:

All of my episodes seem super-dark. Whenever there is a scene that's supposed to be in darkness, I see action on screen but I'm unsure if this was the intention of the anime itself, or if the torrents I'm downloading are just crappy. It's hard to say that, because most torrents are perfect quality anyway.

Just to add, I've been downloading them from A-Kraze, Y-F and A-U, as well as Yoroshiku. The quality of all three is the same as A-Kraze, the fansubbers I respect the most.

Fjordor May 13, 2006 03:25 PM

It is a very dark anime in general.
However, I think you might want to adjust the contrast and brightness of your monitor as well (contrast mostly). If they are under the half-way value, then you will probably be getting mostly dark blurry splotches. I ran into this problem, and then only at around episode 6 did I even think about checking my monitor settings, which were basically at the 0 points.
I hope this doesn't seem like I'm assuming you are dumb or anything, cuz that is not the case. :p

Blades Of Ice May 13, 2006 05:34 PM

Exactly what I needed to hear. The darkness, despite needing to be adjusted on my computer seems to still add a different sense to this anime. Silhoutte's seem to be used, shadows, lightning - to me, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of anime I've seen in a long time.

B4-Hunter May 14, 2006 06:07 AM

I really like Ergo Proxy that's why I want to have it in perfect quality. I chose [Shinsen-Subs] HD version so everything will be in best possible quality. Besides many people think that this release is the most accurate to the true translation.

jinrui198 May 18, 2006 02:41 AM

My god... Egro Proxy's story sucks...

Man I can't believe I actually downloaded 9 episodes and I feel sick already.

I might advise people not to watch this. The only good thing about Egro Proxy is that the graphics is exceptionally great but the storyline stinks.

So, anime have graphics now? If you mean animation I have to disagree. Manglobe has had varying success with the animation so far. Sometimes, like in the first few episodes, it was quite good and fluid. They lost that though. Now it varies greatly from episode to episode and even during episodes. I can't even count all of the different looks the characters have. Inconsistent animation is a big peeve of mine, but like I said before this is a series I'm sticking with because the characters are so interesting and the story is unique.

Roph May 18, 2006 08:54 AM

I have to agree with Foshi here, I've certaintly noticed little changes in the animation from time to time, though nothing as serious as to ge on my nerves. Each episode is leaving me wanting more, and so I'll continue to watch so I can find out the answers I want.

I for one am definately interested in what is going to happen to Vince/Pino and Real next.

If you watch Ergo Proxy in an almost reluctant fashion then I can see how you're not going to be drawn into it.

[edit] B4, I've been sticking with anime-jiyuu, mainly due to their quick releases, and I haven't really noticed any dodgy subtuitles. I like this anime enough though that I'd get shinisen-subs HD versions when they're done =D

ning May 20, 2006 01:32 AM

I totally agree, this anime kicks ass. I'm up to the 9th episode and I'm really looking forward to the next one. It moves at such a steady pace, unravelling it's story while explaining things just as slow. LOL And I love Vincent Law's character.

All togehter it just rocks! ^_^

B4-Hunter May 21, 2006 08:48 AM

OMG!! I'm just after episode 11 and I have to say that we will know more about Vincent Law then aver before. Besides if you are hungry to see more proxy type monster... you are free to see them throu the entire episode...

Hey, I'm new, and I have started watching this recently and love it, and I agree with Kensaki, this ones story is better than most...

aoki May 22, 2006 06:23 AM

hi^^
i'm new here~
been reading this thread for a while now, cuz I'm loving Ergo Proxy! The story is simply GREAT!! you know, i'm not an anime fan but my friend recommended it to me and since I'm a MONORAL fan i decided to give it a try. AND... I'M OBSESSED NOW! XD ...so much about it^^

anybody noticed that the opening was slightly changed up from the 5th episode? looks wonderful! could anybody eventually cut it off from, say, 6th episode and upload it? it'd be very kind :)

B4-Hunter May 22, 2006 07:53 AM

Welcome on GFF ^^ First of all try to keep more attention to how you type your post cause it's only way we can judge you here and see how you really are.

As for Ergo Proxy you need music or opening song ^^? If song I can get you it but as for the opening it's not my job here ^^'.

Episode 10 and 11 are only on RAW (No FanSubs). If you want them anyway you can get them here:

[x-raws] Ergo Proxy - 11 [1280x720 WMV9 AAC 24FPS] [66426C8B]
[x-raws] Ergo Proxy - 10 [1280x720 WMV9 AAC 24FPS] [F3834C2E]

First is in AVI and 2nd is in MKV. They are all in HD version. I hope that help.

Foshi May 23, 2006 09:42 AM

I have never understood why people download raw anime. What's the point? If you don't understand Japanese then why would you waste your time in downloading it. It can't be that hard to wait for the fansubs can it? I would rather watch the show and know whats going on than watch it and be clueless.

EndlessSky May 23, 2006 02:01 PM

Alright, thanks, I will wait for the fan-subs then, didn't know they were only in raw so far.

Cobra Commander May 24, 2006 04:00 PM

Yeah one crappy thing of this series is that the subbed version lag WAY behind after the RAW release.

How long is this anime going to last? 24 or 26 episodes?

*cant's wait to see ep. 10 & 11... must wait for the subbed version*
I guess there are 23 episodes ^^

Ergo Proxy has a lot if words and terms that can't be translated just like that. As I was saying before EP will have 23 episodes.

ello, I've also seen the raws for ep 10 and 11, 11 looks like it does explain heaps, but be warned....it's a wee bit scarey :(

PS: Possibility writer is a soft ass

Thanks I just found 320kb CBR version made by same people as FLAC. You can get it HERE. I think I'll get FLAC and make it VBR 192-320.

Watching 10 now, to the one who says the story sucks. I haven't seen an anime with a good plot in ages. But this one has a decent one.

If you're going to be a total fuckface, please do a better job of it.

These fansubs bastards are slow as hell. 12 episodes out now and the fansubs stuck back on 9. :eyebrow: Oh well, at least there free. Hope Geneon releases this soon in America. :)

aoki May 30, 2006 09:59 AM

to make fansubs is pretty difficult, I guess... but still, it goes _really_ slowly this time.. :eyebrow: i'm afraid to lose interest till the 10th episode comes out *grin*

SemperFidelis May 30, 2006 09:24 PM

Kiri is such an awesome song. Disappointed the soundtrack still had the anime intro length track :(. The rest of the soundtrack is pretty lacklaster and too reminscient of Ghost in the Shell OSTS..

True enough, I listened through it twice and have no interest to listen to it again anytime soon. I will keep it in my collection though. Kiri isone of th e best opening songs i've heard in awhile. Really need to get the full length released though.

B4-Hunter May 31, 2006 06:17 PM

I'm just after episode 12 in RAW. There are few things that finally happened and many clear action that rewaken most of unanswered questions =). Big cherry on the top of it is fight between Ergo Proxy and some Monster Huge Proxy type monster.

And let's just add big BUMP to every fansub team for slacking instead of translating!! *SLAP*!!

Foshi Jun 2, 2006 08:19 PM

Seriously, what is taking these fansubbers so long to get these released? No one is past episode 9. I really hope this doesn't turn into the disaster that those Nanashi fools started with E7. It's almost been a month since the first fansub of episode 9 came out!!

I read some blogs about what happens in upcoming episodes. It all sounds good. Especially, some things that I have been wanting to happen.
Spoiler:

Yeah, but I did have some doubts. It will be interesting to see how it progresses. I also wonder if Pino will look at those two as mother and father figures.

[Shinsen-Subs] strike back!!

Quote:

We're starting this small flood of ours with double dual release of episodes 8 and 9. I can't help myself but to be amazed by usage of camera in Ergo Proxy. It's more like that of a movie than normal anime. Side note: preview for ep 10 must be the cutest preview ever. What else to say? More mysteries ahead! Enjoy more Ergo Proxy!

Now they catch up with the others. RAW episodes are up to 12 so only translations is needed.

aoki Jun 3, 2006 04:37 AM

can't wait!
ehm... what I don't get.. there are a lot of monsters/proxys out there, but only one ergo proxy, right?
:/ *feels stupid*

EndlessSky Jun 3, 2006 11:34 AM

Yes.....
Spoiler:
It seems that each of them are "emisarrys" and have their own names. I'm not sure if all the proxys do or it is just a few of them. Ergo Proxy, Vince, is the "Emisarry of death", while the long haired blonde guy he meet was another one, I forget which emisarry he was.

Bradylama Jun 3, 2006 11:37 AM

Emissary of Light.

Spoiler:
One has to wonder what purpose ultra-powerful emissaries have in a decaying world. Is there something behind it, or is it simply a mythology that the Proxies have built up around themselves to justify their existance? Oh wait, that would be more interesting, it definitely won't be explained at all. =/

Se-ne-ki-su. The Proxy of Moonlight. The girl that Ergo Proxy was fighting in tower in episode 09.

Anime-Jiyuu has released episode 10. http://www.anime-jiyuu.org/

aoki Jun 3, 2006 03:54 PM

wow! now I get so much more! thank you <3

and YAY for the new episode!!! FINALLY!! thanks Foshi for telling ^^

B4-Hunter Jun 3, 2006 05:18 PM

I'm thinking about waiting for [Shinsen-Subs] version instead of watching quite low quality translation by [Anime-Jiyuu]. From the other hand it would be nice to get a little more info about what happend in episode 10 after watching it in RAW.

EDIT:
[Shinses-Subs] strike with enormous power and bring us each new episode day by day. Today we are happy to see [Shinsen-Subs] Ergo Proxy - 10 [59E629B6].avi!! I'll wait for HD version of it but all the other fans can stick to this one =) I think that they will be the fastest releasing team that makes fansub for Ergo Proxy!!

Foshi Jun 4, 2006 09:08 AM

For those of you who prefer Shinsen-Subs. They have released episode 10. :)

Heh I just posted it earlier =D You are late =)

As for the Ergo Proxy matter, one of the unknown RAW teams released episode 13. Only thing that bothers me about it that it's in 640x320 =D So I'll just wait for [x-raws] or [anime-raws].

EDIT:
[Shinsen-Subs] just released episode 10 in HD it's just a matter of time before they release episode 11 and become the most out coming fansub team with Ergo Proxy =)

[Shinsen-Subs] Ergo Proxy - 10 [H264 AAC][F2534C47]

EDIT:
Ok here is the list of all Proxy we know so far with names of people that are them and titles:
Spoiler:
Proxy of Radiance - Kazukisu Proxy (Kazukisu Hauer) [Episode 09]
Proxy of Death - Ergo Proxy (Vincent Law) [Episode 09]
Proxy of Moonlight - Senekisu Proxy (Senekisu) [Episode 08]
Proxy of ?? - Monad Proxy (Monad) [Episode 10]

B4-Hunter Jun 7, 2006 02:14 AM

For those who already have seen episodes up to 10.
Spoiler:
Did you know that first Proxy that was chasing Vincent was Monad and she was a girl? Kazukisu Hauer even said she was Ergo's lover? Now we have 4 Proxy:
Proxy of Radiance - Kazukisu Proxy (Kazukisu Hauer) [Episode 09]
Proxy of Death - Ergo Proxy (Vincent Law) [Episode 09]
Proxy of Moonlight - Senekisu Proxy (Senekisu) [Episode 08]
Proxy of ?? - Monad Proxy (Monad) [Episode 01]

What do we know about her?

No problem =). Still I would like to know a bit more about Monad...

Monad comes from the Greek word μονάς (from the word μόνος, which means "one", "single", "unique") and may refer to symbol of God or totality.

Monad (Gnosticism)
In many Gnostic systems (and heresiologies), God is known as the Monad, the One, The Absolute Aion teleos (The Perfect Æon), Bythos (Depth or Profundity, Βυθος), Proarkhe (Before the Beginning, προαρχη), and E Arkhe (The Beginning, η αρχη). God is the high source of the pleroma, the region of light. The various emanations of God are called æons.

According to Hippolytus, this view was inspired by the Pythagoreans, who called the first thing that came into existence the Monad, which begat the dyad, which begat the numbers, which begat the point, begetting lines, etc.

Monad (Chinese symbol)
The Taijitu (Chinese: 太極圖; Pinyin: Taìjí tú; Wade-Giles: T'ai4 chi2 t'u2; literally "diagram of the supreme ultimate") is a well known symbol deriving from Chinese culture which represents the principle of yin and yang from Taoist and Neo-Confucian philosophy. The term Taijitu itself refers to any of several schematic diagrams representing these principles.

hexXie Jun 9, 2006 12:26 PM

hmmm... but how soon is soon? Bleach is released subbed once a week but Ergo Proxy seems quite random in release times. Why is that?

Foshi Jun 9, 2006 12:32 PM

Probably because it is infused with a lot of dialogue. All of the technology stuff and history of characters names. It takes time to research and translate everything that is being said.

That's right. Ergo Proxy have a lot of weird stuff to translate. Plus you need to find proper words for translated terms. That's why EP is released quite a while after RAW episode.

What you people fail to realize is that fansubbers also have an actual life outside of their anime-subbing. Bleach comes out regularly because its a lot easier to sub, and because most groups dedicate themselves to one series, where as groups like shinsen or kraze have multiple shows to sub. Just have some bloody patience and don't complain every few posts.

And Hunter, please add some actual content to your posts instead of just posting variations of your cliché expressions (sorry for the member moderating mods).

B4-Hunter Jun 10, 2006 06:21 AM

[Shinsen-Sub] released episode 11 in AVI. Soon there should be HD version. I had already seen it in RAW so I'll wait for HD instead of watching it twice in AVI and MKV.

In Episode 11, there is bookstore that is named after City Lights Bookstore. A lot of weird stuff happened to Vincent... he fight with something inside... Just check this out.

B4-Hunter Jun 10, 2006 06:02 PM

Just after episode 11 subbed by [Shinsen-Subs]. Now I know what took them so long. Translation of next episodes is getting harder and harder, a lot of terms that are not even used from long time makes it damn hard.

Here are all addons after episode 11:

If you want I can just rip the notes from them. But I advice you to get full episodes by [Shinsen-Subs]. Level of translation is damn high end even I have sometimes problems with understanding what they are saying even after translating it =D

Hope to see HD version soon and get my hands on episode 12 witch is AWESOME!! (Seen it on RAW).

Roph Jun 11, 2006 08:35 AM

Well episode 11 just made me a whole lot more interested in Ergo Proxy again. I managed to pretty much stay on top of it all and not get ( too ;_; ) confused. The notes are pretty neat; I might consider replacing my episodes 1-10 (anime-jiyuu) with shinsen.

The animation quality seemed to step up a little in this episode too, lets hope it stays like that :tpg:

You should do it and watch them all once again. There is BIG difference in translation and many miss used terms by [Anime-Jiyuu] if you will watch episode translated by [Anime-Jiyuu] and [Shinsen-Subs] you will feel the difference for sure. Plus [Shinsen-Subs] have HD version to.

Foshi Jun 11, 2006 12:13 PM

Episode 11 was interesting. It gave us some insight into Vincents past and brought forth philosophical problems. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Spoiler:
I'm glad Real and Vincent are together now. I want to see what kind of relationship they will have in the future.

B4-Hunter Jun 11, 2006 12:39 PM

Well as you have seen on the end of episode 11 Re-l have weapon against Proxy. She don't know that Vincent is Proxy yet.
Spoiler:
In episode 12 she will see him changing... you know what will she do =D? You'll see =) There will be even Re-l & Vincent alone action =D But more in episode 12 =)

B4-Hunter Jun 11, 2006 04:13 PM

Those who are busy downloading RAW's of episode 13 & 14 or just hungry for some Ergo Proxy stuff please visit my ChocoJournal and rate my Fan Site layout.

If anyone is interested in helping my out with fan site materials please post there and tell me what you would do.

B4-Hunter Jun 13, 2006 03:37 AM

Just watched episode 13 called "wrong way home". There was a lot of dialogs so not much action to see but as far as I know most of it was about Cogito virus. Did you ever wonder why Iggy was not infected with it... or should I say is he not infected =D? Besides we'll see new side of Re-l Mayer that we didn't know yet =).

After watching two new episodes of Air Gear I'll watch episode 14 and post some info about it. Back to work on the web.

Episode 12 only will not give you full view on the story. It's mixed with episode 13 a little. Hope that they will come out soon and fast.

Foshi Jun 13, 2006 03:02 PM

Any of you as confused as me about some of the happenings of Ergo Proxy? This timeline clears up some issues for the first 13 episodes. Here. It shouldn't need mentioning, but there are spoilers.

Foshi Jun 14, 2006 10:24 PM

Yeah, episode 12 up now. Here. Downloading now.

Bigblah Jun 14, 2006 10:31 PM

Foshi is banned from Animespot for a week. I've stated the rules again and again in stickied threads and in-thread warnings, but people never learn.

Let this be a warning to everyone else who thinks they can get away with posting crap like this.

Roph Jun 15, 2006 11:08 AM

Ok episode 12 was just AWESOME

Spoiler:
I can't wait for the next one! Wow so vince is in love with Real <3 he even got a kiss =0 Iggy seems a little pissed at being sent back to romdaeu by himself,
Spoiler:
though he dies in ep. 13 I hear, so I wonder if me makes it?
and I'm still wondering about the sifnificance of Pino in the story. I'm guessing she has some event involving her soon.

B4-Hunter Jun 16, 2006 03:14 AM

I was waiting for HDTV version and here it is =D One day after AVI version. I'm quite shocked that they did this so fast =D. Anyway news are already on my site with links of course.

As for the episode 12 I need to put it a bit higher in my download list. Since yesterday my MP3 broke I can't get stuff from work anymore =( so it will take a while to get all new episodes now. *sigh*

As for the webside, on Sunday is my last great exam and then it's over no school anymore so more free time will be added to web works =D. Drop by to see what can be done more.

P.S for Roph
Spoiler:
What about *.us or *.co.uk? or even *.co.jp =D?

Kamui Jun 16, 2006 02:45 PM

Episode 12 was indeed great... Lots of development for our characters, actions and it seems even they got some of the original quality back!

Smooth animation ftw!

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the offer, but I'll download them and then burn it off as a full series after. I like the consistancy of having one fansub group through out the whole series :D

Paco Jun 16, 2006 10:15 PM

I stopped keeping up with this after Ep. 4 due mainly to time issues. When I wasn't dicking around here on my off hours I was out doing other things. Today I took the day off to watch the Mexico vs. Angola match and when the rest of the day got boring, I began and just finished watching the last 6 episodes back to back.

I WANT MORE!

Spoiler:
I'm still not seeing the significance of the Proxies themselves in the storyline. Are they all tied in with a different element or are they angels of their domain and hence why they speak of humans as lower lifeforms?

The story develops so slowly but it's like biting into a multi-flavored cake with this one. Each layer reveals a new twist and a new (if I may be allowed a small nod to the series here) reson d'etre. :D

MOAR!

Yeah it's something like that. Each proxy was or IS living in certain area trying to control everything around and hunt if there is a need for it. For now there ware two couples Ergo & Monad and Kazukisu & Senekisu. In episode 12 we have seen another Proxy type monster but he was created I think... haven't seen subbed version yet...

I wonder what's gonna go down with Monad, but Ergo seems to be filling the role quite nicely, I must say. As for the behemoth Proxy that just showed up, I have no idea what his purpose is yet, but hopefully Iggy will figure that one out. After all, he's being sent back to the homeland. :p

I'm starting to get the feeling that Real (or Lil, as I knew her before) is playing a somewhat more sinister role than she leads on. I also think her name must have a "royal" entendre attached to it, but this is just speculation on my behalf and has no relevance to the story whatsoever.

Carry on . :D

Wow that was fast? [Anime-Raws] & [YuME-Raws] released RAW Combo, that means that episode 15 is out!! I haven't seen 14 yet =( Shame on you B4!! Need to fix it right away so see you on my site for links and till next time =D.

Oh boy... another proxy?! Spoilers ahead =D
Spoiler:
Just watched episode 14 called "ophelia". It's name of supermarket in some city. Vincent, Pino and Re-l are doing shopping there but suddenly something weird is happening and each of them see other doing things to hurt them. Like Vince trying to kill Pino or Re-l trying to shoot Pino.

After a while we can see that there is someone discussing him self as others trying to kill them. It's another Proxy. Think it's Proxy of Illusion cause it all seams like a dream or something. Shame that episode ends without even telling us if it was proxy or not =( Can't wait for episode 15!!

B4-Hunter Jun 21, 2006 04:07 AM

Race for anime fans is getting more and more exiting. [Ani-Jiyuu] just released episode 13 called "Wrong Way Home". It's 2nd part of episode 12 that was already released by [Shinsen-Subs].

I just want to warn any possible [Ani-Jiyuu] downloaders that quality of translation less accurate then [Shinsen-Subs]. I highly recommend to wait for [Shinsen-Subs] release.

Those who didn't read 2nd part of my post can get this file here: [Ani-Jiyuu] Ergo Proxy - 13 [FAEB9A7E].

Roph Jun 21, 2006 01:07 PM

Oh noes!

Spoiler:
That was a very interesting episode. I thought that was the last we'd see of that robot thing with the white hair in ep. 12 as well.

I'd suspected Iggy had got the virus, though I thought he'd got it from when he encountered Pino sleeping in Ep. 12. He got quite agressive =0.

CLearly vince has more he'd like to say to Real, though it's just a case of him bringing himself to do it. Maybe there'll be more romance <3

And now Real's gun is out of ammunition, so she can no longer kill vincent with it. Maybe he'll explain in a later episode what actually happened.

It was last "normal" episode. "Ophelia" & "Who wants to be in jeopardy!" are two twisted and insane episodes with nothing new in main story line. It's rather like a BIG notes for earlier episodes. In 15 we see face of another Proxy, on picture only but always something. There is his name to but only in Japanese.

Episode 15 will be really pain in the ass for fan sub teams...

BIGWORM Jun 22, 2006 07:41 AM

Question:

Spoiler:
Does Vince find Mosque up to ep. 12? I'm on 8 right now. Also, I see Vince's glowing eyes in B4-Hunter's sig, indicating that Vince would be one of/a Proxy. That would explain the appearance of one when the Commune was attacked by the Security Bureau.

What's so funny is that I downloaded this anime as just a request, now I'm all over it. :D

Spoiler:
Nope. Even not till episode 15. Sorry for spoiler in signature anyway =D To say they true 2nd character on picture in Vincent to =D

Ok off to work on EP site finally =D Had to design something for cash to buy Guild Wars =D 100$ in my pocket =)

Foshi Jun 23, 2006 12:22 PM

Yup, episode 13 was the best yet. The animation really picked up and the characters were fleshed out well.

Pino is acting more and more human all of the time.

Real has been a shallow bitch the whole series. She better have learned something.

Spoiler:
Iggy's death will hopefully have a positive effect on Real. She needs to learn to fend for herself and not always rely on others

SemperFidelis Jun 23, 2006 12:47 PM

Question about the ava maria in the notes of episode 7 on shinsen subs... Where is it from? cowboy bebop?

Where do you have Ave Maria note in episode 7? I made list of all [Shinsen-Subs] notes and there is nothing like this there. For all notes by [S-S] check my site HERE.

SemperFidelis Jun 23, 2006 04:55 PM

The music playing during the notes in episode 7 is what I'm talking about.

edit: and it's not the cowboy bebop ava maria either. wonder where its from.

Foshi Jun 25, 2006 04:39 PM

I couldn't contain myself after reading a blog about episode 16. I watched the raw and it was quite funny. Pino trying on Real's makeup then later Vincent trying some on. lol.

I was just going to post news about it that link is on my site and soon screen shots gallery will be up =) Anyway I'm still downloading it.

hexXie Jun 30, 2006 04:51 PM

just watched ep 12....

Spoiler:
I was quite disappointed that Vincent is Ergo but yet has another side to him that almost makes him a schitzo... i thought it was just his memories taking over... or a subconscious reason to kill the other proxies that he has not yet realized. It reminded me of Bleach when he all of a sudden became his "dark side"... like Itchigo's hollow.

If he has only LOST his memories, surely it wouldn't create a split personality-type of thing?

But, reasoning with myself, we also notice that the Bookstore scene reveals the real Ergo Proxy. So in this light it seems that his memories were given away, maybe, but also covered up and replaced with a false persona. But the real reason why the "dark half" wants to come back when it gave its memories away in the first place should prove quite interesting...

anything from the 1337 hunters of the torrents in terms of 14 subbed?
I'm busy with 13 at the moment.

galen Jul 1, 2006 06:45 PM

Spoiler:
I knew Vincent was Ergo wayyyyyy back in like, episode three. It's pretty obvious. He's the typical "seemingly weak and kinda-awkward guy who is really an ultimate badass" character that pops in sooooo much anime. Which is okay, just really really cliche.

Also hey I'm kind of annoyed that for some reason they're now translating Lir's (or Lil or whatever) name as "Real." Augh.

EDIT: I looked it up...so Real is actually correct? Ugh, Lir was a much cooler name. WTG Japanese.

Where the hell have you been buddy. Her name has always been Real. It says so on her I.D. card numerous times and on monitor screens. Only the really early subs had her name as Lil, or any of the others.

Just finished wathing episode 14 subbed. Pino seems to have learned a lot about human customs and emotion. Real is still a little stuck up although that seems to be fading.

galen Jul 1, 2006 07:13 PM

It was Lil in the subs I was watching up until episode 10.

I guess I wasn't paying attention to the monitors? Or I wasn't connecting point A to point B. Either way, it's still a lame name. ;_;

Double Post:
Just watched episode 14.

Does anyone know what the song is they used in the end? Not the credits song but during the bit about Ophelia?

It's not really a spoiler but whatev.
Spoiler:
EDIT: Here is Millais' "Ophelia" which is what the scenes of "Real" drowning are based off of:

The song is not featured on the first OST. Maybe, it will be on the second OST which is supposed to be released soon.

B4-Hunter Jul 3, 2006 02:37 AM

Ok so I assume that everyone know that [Shinsen-Subs] released episode 13 & 14 subbed AND we have episode 17 on raw? If not links to those two you can grab on my site and RAW on www.isohunt.com. Lately I don't have time to work on site or even watch anime =( I don't even have holidays.

Paco Jul 4, 2006 03:30 AM

I just watched episodes 13 and 14.

Spoiler:
That Millais angle in ep. 14 was fucking genius. Real in the river with the Ophelia pose was surreal. Although I gotta say, the episode confused me from top to bottom until I realized that they were dealing with a shapeshifter.

It is another proxy. He is revealed when te first time he/she dragged Vincent into the lake showinh him what happened to the inhabitants of the Dome. What Vincent would have become had he stayed in his former self.

Ramenbetsu Jul 4, 2006 02:03 PM

I still need to watch 13 and 14. I downloaed the h.264 version of both but the voices are really LOW while the music etc is much louder. I cant seem to fix it either so i think i have to go back to the old version.

That wasn't what confused me...
Spoiler:
What confused me was how there were 2 Vincents and 2 Reals at once. Even after he announced himself and what had happened in the city I was still kind of muddled on this. It was only at the end of the episode that Vincent was talking to himself that he said "that proxy can change form" that it hit me. THAT MOTHERFUCKER WAS A SHAPESHIFTER!

Seriously... I feel so stupid sometimes. :(

Foshi Jul 5, 2006 11:42 PM

I haven't heard about any U.S. release dates yet. Is it custom to wait until a show finishes airing in Japan before releasing in America? Geneon had this show prelicensed so i'm sure an American release won't be to far down the timeline.

I didn't find episode 14 to be confusing at all. When you see scenes repeat themselves it becomes quite clear what is going on.

Pino really seems to be the one that knows whats going on. She is never surprised and always seems to be one step ahead of the viewer as well.

This is a 23 episode series so when they reach Mosque(?) a lot of stuff will be going down.

I found myself at this board looking for the same thing. But i just read on the shinsen sub forums that the music used during the notes is from the personal collection of the subbers, and the names wont be released :(. Its a shame because i would really like to hear this particular track. The only way we might find out is if someone recalls hearing it before...

Just seen episode 17... OMG!! Man that was something!! Action mixed and quite a lot short or long jumps between Romdeau and Usagi. Our friend Raul see someone we know quite well. But it's just his delusion.

At the end of the episode is one of the best tracks in whole Ergo Proxy. Piano version at first then full orchestra. Just uploaded rip of it.

So it's a "professional" piece of songwork and they just don't feel like telling us who did it, or is it a personal piece made by one of the subbers and for whatever reason they don't feel like giving it out? Either way, it stinks of "look at what i've got and you can't have! neener neener neener!"

Edit: I checked out their forums myself, and apparently they are worried they will get in trouble with the RIAA simply by releasing names, probably because of the unlicensed use of the song in the anime. Ugh. UGH UGH UGH

It's quite confusing. There is a lot of text in it so it's hard to squize it on screen + subs for voice. It's will he damn hard =( Next episode (19) will be out 15.07.2006r. RAW in a two days!! =D

*sneeze* No new subs for episode 15 yet. :(

Seems like the show is going to keep getting weirder and weirder. Episode 19 is from Pino's perspective and plays like a cartoon. Shinichiro Watanabe is directing this episode so I can't wait to see it.

This is a complicated series which requires a bit of research to translate well. They will all be finished eventually. And hey, if what I heard is true the first DVD will be released for the US this November so we have that to look forward to.

It sounds like, religious, latin mixed with beats

I think ive narrowed it down to the artist paul schwartz, a person dropped his name on the shinsen sub forums and his music is the same type as the notes music. Im checking all the samples on amazon :), he also did music for xenosaga so i think its no coincidence

If its by Paul Schwartz, do you happen to know which album n title?

I've a few of his albums, but I've not heard it. Maybe its an album or song I don't have?
I really like that song alot..argh....still can't find it

0p3r4t0r Aug 1, 2006 08:19 AM

I think im getting closer, by going through on amazon and looking at the albums that people who bought paul shwartz cds, ive ended up at the group magna carta. They also do that opera-ish/electronic type music from the notes :). I will not rest until i find this song!

Kensaki Aug 1, 2006 08:59 AM

Composers for Xenosaga series:

Ep 1. Yasunori Mitsuda.
Ep 2. Yuki Kanjiura, Shinji Hosoe.
Ep 3. Yuki Kanjiura.
Anime. Kousuke Yamashita.

Care to share the source that claims Paul Schwartz did music for Xenosaga cause I've searched both google/amazon/wikipedia for connections and have found none. Also the music piece sounds nothing like any music track I've heard in there series.

0p3r4t0r Aug 1, 2006 09:34 AM

My bad, im not sure where i got that from, but i thought i saw the name come up on the pages when i was looking around. This may be tempting to most of us Ergo Proxy fans; Ergo Proxy 1 - 13 on DVD

I highly recommend you do not buy it though. From personal experience with importing these DVD's the subs are pure horrible shit. Not only that, but the picture was jaggy and out of proportion. I imported the entire season of Shuffle! from these "Anime Cartoon" guys and trust me it was a waste of $40. Hong Kong rip-offs; wait for the US release unless you know Japanese.

Seriously, where the hell is episode 15 :(.

packrat Aug 6, 2006 12:16 PM

From what I understand, that episode is chock full of scientific terminology and abstract concepts, making a proper translation very difficult and time-consuming. :(

B4-Hunter Aug 6, 2006 04:56 PM

While waiting for episode 15 I just watched episode 21. It all start to make sense. But ending was damn weird. No spoiler included in my sig and avatar. Shinsen is looking for Timers. EP project is still ongoing. RAW 22 will be here at the morning.

Corrupt_Id Aug 7, 2006 07:31 PM

Okay, can someone please explain what's going on?

I've seen up to 22 and am sad that the end is so near, waaahh one more ep., no more continuous eager page refreshing to see if the latest ep. has been released, *sigh* I'll miss those days =P. Well I'm happy to hear the fansubbers are still working on this series. Oh, has anyone heard of "centzon hitchers and undertaker", apparently it's the manga adaptation of ergo proxy. I would love to see how ergo proxy translates to manga.

B4-Hunter Aug 9, 2006 04:22 PM

It's easy to tell... just watch EP once again all episodes from the 1st the the last and everything will become a LOT more visible =) I try it my self and it helps a lot.

B4-Hunter Aug 13, 2006 04:20 AM

Just got Episode 23 on RAW!!! (FiNAL) Hope it will be the best of them all =D

Nectarine Aug 13, 2006 01:32 PM

I was kind of looking for the song in the episode 14 notes too... but since I kind of don't have time, I tried to look through these Xenosaga songs... maybe it's in one of the extra albums? ._.

Rock Aug 13, 2006 01:39 PM

I finally decided to give up on Ergo Proxy since nobody even bothers translating it anymore and the more recent episodes seemed to be too freaky for my personal taste.

It's a sad thing considering this was one of the few Anime shows I've grown attached to in recent years.

They was working on Ergo Proxy but since no one can handle episode 15 they just don't translate it anymore.

They could just drop episode 15 and go to the 16. But after watching meditatio 23 I have to say that in 15th there is one quite important information about who we will meet at the end.

Hope that after all from Shinsen-Subs get back from they summer break will get back to work on it. Project isn't dropped yet!!

packrat Aug 14, 2006 05:55 PM

This may be wrong, but do you suppose that the fansubbing groups are holding out until all the episodes are out, to gain a full understanding of the concepts presented in the show, in order that their translation won't be inadequate and confuse the viewers in later episodes?

If thats the case, then it would explain why they haven't officially dropped the project.

It seems to make sense to me as well, considering the information I've been given.

0p3r4t0r Aug 14, 2006 09:23 PM

I have lost any trust in shinsen subs, through this notes music business and ep. 15

I cant imagine any 21 min episode being complicated enough to take this long to sub.

packrat Aug 15, 2006 01:12 AM

I think you may be jumping the gun in condemning them. The more I think about it, the more likely my hypothesis seems plausible.

Would you rather Shinsen come out with 5 revisions of some episodes, because they find out, after watching the later episodes, that the words they decided to use in them were inadequate/improper translations, and that better, less confusing phrasing could be used instead?

I'm torn between my lust for the rest of the series as soon as possible, and my desire for coherent and complete concepts and plotlines. I will by no means, however, say that Shinsen has gone to the shitter.

Of course, maybe I'm just being overly optimistic again, and hoping for the best possible explanation. :)

B4-Hunter Aug 15, 2006 04:09 AM

It's not about translation. Just download episode 15 and watch it. Then put your self in place of a person that have to place all subs on the screen so anyone will have time to read then AND understand.

Shinses stuff is on summer holidays that's why other projects are on and EP is stopped till they get back. Besides as I was saying in episode 15 there is one thing (or more) that connect it with episode 23.

Holy crap... a sub of episode 15 by [Pino-no-Usagi]! (rabbit pino WTF?)

http://pino-no-usagi.edwardk.info/%5...5D.avi.torrent

Lets see if its any good. But still, finally a release!

YeOldeButchere Aug 16, 2006 10:28 PM

Surely you mean "rabbit pino FTW!", seeing how cute pino is in that rabbit suit.

Anyway, the subs are pretty good. I had no problem understanding what everything was about. Of course it's a weird episode, but that's to be expected with Ergo Proxy.

Also Vincent isn't too good at game shows. Those questions at the beginning were easy.

Roph Aug 17, 2006 01:13 AM

.. wow.

I'm guessing [Pino-no-Usagi] is the new Anime-Jiyuu, the op/end graphics are identical, as is the font used.

Ugh, that was one confusing episode.

B4-Hunter Aug 17, 2006 03:14 AM

But one of the most important on our journey for understanding or true face of Proxy. You'll see for your self =D

http://www.flaresoft.net/BeforeAfter.jpg
ARGH, typesetting. :(

EDIT:
"Was a great time. Enjoy Shinsen's or Ani-Kraze's Ergo Proxy version." That's what #Anime-Jiyuu topic say. Think that few of then joined forces with Pino-no-Usagi.

El Ray Fernando Aug 17, 2006 06:40 AM

I thought they did a very good job on the subs I'm impressed, I wasn't one too care much about the notes anyway.

B4-Hunter Aug 18, 2006 02:27 AM

OK. [Pino-no-Usagi] is the same as [Anime-Jiyuu] was but without one member. They are working on Ergo Proxy now only. Today they released another episode. You can get it here: [Pino-no-Usagi] Ergo Proxy 16 [48BFBDBD].avi. Shame that they don't make HD version like Shinsen or Anime-K. Better this then nothing =).

SemperFidelis Aug 18, 2006 02:44 AM

Did that second OST ever see its way out? I'm anticipating some more music from this series :).

  • Ergo Proxy OST2

It's from Nipponsei "Future" list. So it will be here soon :)

Erisu Kimu Aug 19, 2006 11:47 AM

As much as I love the concept of this Anime and still watch it, it has gotten very strange. That whole game show episode was funny, but it's starting to make me wonder if either Vincent and Real are on drugs or in Wonderland.

hikarub Aug 20, 2006 01:01 PM

So what, are Pino-no-Usagi any good then? I'm seriously considering just downloading from them for episodes 15 onwards. Are their subs for episode 15 fairly decent?

Shinsen aren't on holiday anymore, they're still putting out Blood+ and have even started doing Night Head Genesis and FLAG. Heck, they've started doing Demonbane as well. They sure aren't in any hurry to get back to work on Ergo Proxy it seems....

:(

YeOldeButchere Aug 20, 2006 02:17 PM

I've watched all three episodes by Pino-no-Usagi so far, and I can say they're fairly good. At least they seemed good to me. Why don't you just, you know, actually download one and see for yourself?

SemperFidelis Aug 22, 2006 08:42 PM

okay, so I just saw episode 17 but...

Spoiler:
i don't understand how the erasure of his ID code means sending a nuclear launch onto the city... Also, what relation did this guy have to pino?

A lot about Raul and Pino. Small spoiler about meditatio 17.
Spoiler:
Raul was Pino's father. We never notice that since he was never home when Vincent drop by to see if Pino is not infected. He saw how his wife and child died after Monado was chasing Vincent.

Thanks to his ID he had access to all levels in the city, he could launch this missile anytime he want so he set the timer to launch it after his ID will be erased from the system.

He wanted to take from Vincent everything that was important for him, Moscow his home land that's why he send a missile there to show him how he feel about lost of his child.

episode 15..

Episode 15 was very weird indeed. Reminded me of episode 11.

Just wathced 16 and it is the funniest episode of the series so far. Pino trying on Real's makeup and Real kicking Vince in the ass.

Is anybody else able to extract track 7 from that Nipponsei release?

If so, an upload would be nice :(

The torrent completed fine and hashed correctly, but when extracting, track 7 fails the CRC check ;-;

Otherwise, pretty nice. I might transcribe a MIDI of Kiri sometime if I can find the effort.

Yuna Aug 26, 2006 11:13 AM

I've just watched less than two minutes right now from an HDTV source of this show, and "Oh my god" !

I didn't need more time to know that I'll like this one. I don't know how could I have not tried to watch it sooner. I'll start downloading the 2nd episode before I watched the first (I get the feeling this showing is the kind of show that ask for the next episode right after you finished watching an episode.

But I do have a question, is this anime 23 episodes ?
(I didn't want to go through the previous post this time because there may be a few spoilers, I read just the first posts.)
EDIT: Don't mind this question. I just found out the answer.

Tellurian Aug 26, 2006 12:06 PM

Well. Actually it's the only one since GITSSAC that I'm really interested in.

Okay guys, I need your help. I love this anime...but...it's confusing, as you all are well aware of. I've had to watch the episodes broken up over periods of time but right now I've got episodes 1-18. My problem is this...what the hell is going on?

general? yes...but if someone who has the will, the inclination, and the ABILITY, could you please explain what has been happening up to this point? I know it's asking alot, but I think other people who need help from you guys who really get this series will thank you, as well as myself. A brief summary would be helpful but if you want to win MANY MANY internets, an episode by episode analysis would be ideal. Some of these episodes leave me just staring blankly at the screen wondering what I just watched. I'm usually pretty good with "Getting" this stuff but this series leaves me drawing blanks. Anyone? I'm desperate. If not, that's okay too, I just thought I'd ask.

PS. Gawd I hope Vincent and Real do the nasty. Bathroom mirrors. You know what I'm talking about.

PSS. Ignore that comment and pppllleeaaasseee enlighten me. Now's your chance to show how smart you are.

PSSS. I put out for answers. Think about it.

Encephalon, he wasn't looking for the episodes. If you read his earlier post you would know he wants a summary of the happenings in the series not the episodes themselves which he already has.

Btw, Eps 19 and 20 have been released by Pino-No-Usagi.

Unless I'm missing something there are not two Proxy One's. There is only one and that is Vincent. Monad is Proxy 13, the one that Daedalus let free in episode 1 and as B4 said Monad is the one he is trying to revive in Real. Don't forget the Real we know is not the real Real.

Spoiler:
This series has gotten pretty confusing. I just didn't like how they went all the way out to Moscow, only to turn back and head to Romdeau again. In the span of those episodes, it was almost pointless in a "philosophical" way. Anyway, now that they ARE back at Romdeau, I guess I'll have to wait and see if Vincent is dead or not and who Real REALLY is. There's so much I still want to know.

Roph Oct 3, 2006 01:08 PM

Pino-no-usagi have just right now released episodes 22 and 23 !_!

Totally getting now and will comment when they're done :tpg: I for one haven't read ahead as to what happens, so I hope everything ends up explained =0

Paco Oct 3, 2006 01:58 PM

FINALLY! A light at the end of the tunnel. I gotta say though, as much as this series was a chore to watch because of the incosistency of the episodes, it was a really awesome little series.

nazpyro Oct 3, 2006 02:05 PM

Hot awesome! I spent last week rewatching the first few episodes and catching up to 21 (I had stopped watching during the summer). Guess I didn't have to wait long for 22 AND 23 to come out. I'll finish off Ergo Proxy tonight then. <3

hot. awesome.

Paco Oct 3, 2006 07:20 PM

So much condensed into these last 2 episodes it was almost overwhelming.

Spoiler:
Monad returning as the angel of life (At least that's what I gather from this) was a fucking awesome twist.

I gotta say though... In retrospect, this story was pretty short and could have been condensed into a 13-episode run like Hellsing was. There were a ton of filler episodes that were tangents of the story as opposed to focused on the overall aspect of "life after god"; even if that was an awesome concept to begin with.

Can't complain though, it was an awesome series even if it had its boring stretches. At least it's not like Bleach. :p

Erisu Kimu Oct 3, 2006 09:03 PM

Hmm, I think it turned out better than expected. When all the fillers continued to just endlessly stretch on and on, I was getting irritated. Daedulus was a nut! All in all, it was a very interesting concept.

Foshi Oct 3, 2006 10:02 PM

What's all this filler talk about? Yeah, there were some episodes that the story didn't progress much in but I think every episode had a point. Besides, who doesn't like to get to know the characters better? One of the best episodes was the one when they were stuck on the boat for a month and Real, Vince, and Pino bonded.

There's nothing wrong with the bonding and character development, but the fact that it took tons of episodes for them to just go all the way to Moscow, only to return to Romdeau left a sour taste. Sure, encountering other proxies on the way was interesting at first, but it got tiring quick. Not only that, all the philosophical blabber left things harder to understand. The only two episodes out of those filler episodes that I found necessary were the ones where Real and Vincent spent some time together inside of the boat and where they arrived in Moscow.

nazpyro Oct 4, 2006 09:01 AM

That "bonding" episode definitely was one of my favorite episodes.

The last two episodes fucking blew my mind. Then again, pretty much every finale does. But that was awesome. And yay: Pino FTW. :p

Yeah, but don't you think they could have driven their point without the drawn-out length? Episodes like "Who Wants To Be On Jeopardy...", "Ophelia" and "Eternal Smile" were entertaining, yes. But they served no direct purpose to the main storyline.

See, I have no problem with getting to know the MAIN characters. I also think that "Busy Doing Nothing" was one of the best episodes in the series, but this goes back to what I said about the story. The events in this could easily have been interpolated into another episode and all would have been well.

Like I said, Hellsing had an INCREDIBLE run at 13 episodes and kicked some serious ass and kept the story at a great rate. This followed the same arc but drew it out over 23 episodes. I guess I do see where you guys are coming from too; the series was still awesome. I just think that focusing the strength of the story into a more dense story arc would have made an already winning story a goddamn classic.

hexXie Oct 5, 2006 07:33 AM

although the ending did leave some unanswered questions, it was very satisfying. And at least didn't leave you in too much suspense~!

I hope there is a second season, or sequal...

sorry for the double post, but this is integral:

What do you mean "Who wants to be on Jeopardy" was of no use??
It gave you foreshadowing to Proxy One!!! And in Ophelia, Vincent found out (and the viewer) A LOT more about his Proxy side!

Well they could've "foreshadowed" Proxy One easily in some other episode... somehow. Nevertheless, the Jeopardy one (and the one after it, which I think was the bonding one) were very entertaining. It's actually comic relief from all the dark and serious drama.

I didn't say they were of no use. I just said that all the foreshadowing and character development could have been done in any episodes. I'm not saying the whole series wasn't entertaining, I'm just saying...

Wow! Finally got around to finishing off this series, and despite spoiling myself beforehand, these 2 episodes were great!

So there you have it, the real backstory to the state of the world:
Spoiler:
Humans destroyed their world (probably by that chemical accident that killed what, 80% or 85% of the world's population?) and the remaining survivors split in their shuttles. Before they left, they created the Proxy Project, where 300 Proxies would create domed cities and citizens to live in them. In some way, this helps to "heal" the planet (didn't get that part) and once the planet reached some level of normalcy, the Proxies and their cities would die making way for the returning humans.

Okay, maybe I didn't quite get as much as I would've liked. Still, it was an awesome series and I enjoyed it immensely.

Though I was a little surprised by the relationship between Pino and Raul Creed:
Spoiler:
....I know that Pino was a companion autorave for Raul Creed and his wife and child, but after his family were killed in the mall, Raul doesn't return home. Pino is waiting for him and when she hears a noise at the front door she says "papa" but finds the auto-rave hunters instead. I had always thought that it was the then unknown "papa" who had sent the hunters after Pino....

In the end, we see Raul was very attached to Pino after all.

The end shot was awesome.

[A-Kraze] released episode 15 in HD and they will bereleasing rest of the EP episodes soon. On AniDB they have same score as [Shinsen-Subs] so we can get the rest of missing episodes from them or redownload them all.

Yeah, thats cool but I think I'll wait for the DVD release. I already pre-ordered the first volume special edition.

Anyway, this was an awesome series that some great twists during the final two episodes. If anything this series wasn't quite as action packed as I originally thought it might be. There nothing wrong with that, but some episodes left me very confused about what was happening. I think Ergo Proxy ended perfectly. So, if a sequel, movie, or OVA comes out in the future I hope it just has a bit more action.

Double Post:
Here's the official website for the English version. Although, the trailer is subbed. http://www.ergoproxydvd.com/ergo_teaser.swf

i guess its a little like hellsing eh? where the episodes dont really link to each other... but if you squint your eyes and tilt your head a little to the left, they seem to make a bridge....

but thats just me talking.

heh. hope there'll be another season too =)

agreatguy6 Nov 22, 2006 11:45 PM

YAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
They don't have eps. 22 and 23 on youtube and my comp. doesn't do .tors!!!!

Personally, all that philosophy crap that some of ya'll hate so much was one of the things that I actually liked about it! I mean, an anime with some depth is what I like (not that the others were shallow!!!!)

The City Lights bookstore, Ophelia, and Split Personalities were my fav epsiodes BY FAR!!!!

Just waiting on the last two!!!!
Can't wait!! I'm on pins and needles!

'cept, here's what I don't get: If Vincent is Ergo Proxy, and there was a proxy goin after him in the mall, does that mean that even though Ergo loved Monad, she (if it can really earn a gender....) would be willing to kill him? And besides, I thought the whole time that the proxy in the mall WAS Ergo! And why does he all of the sudden stop wearing that really cool mask in 21?
There are just too many questions to ask!

I think it deserves a sequel (if there can be one. I haven't seen the last two, as I said and don't know yet )
