Saints Row: The Third. More DLC than a cow has moo.
Not many people probably care about this besides Zip and I, but Saints Row: The Third is on its way this year. Let's show some good shit, shall we?!
Here's the CG trailer:
Thanks to E3 we got a bunch of footage that is pretty awesome. This can't be embedded however, because Gamespot is gay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btQwBVBblvc So is anybody besides me and a jihadist excited for this? Let's discuss how good it feels to be a gangsta. |
|||||
Saints Row 2 was an insane amount of fun, so I'm pretty anxious for this. It's nice to hear that they've nixed all the multiplayer modes that nobody cared about in favor of putting all their efforts into the main game.
I read an interview with one of the devs a couple weeks ago, and everything in it sounded extremely promising. Mayhem revamped so that you don't just chain fences, ridiculous costumes for the Saints gang members roaming the city, etc. There was a great quote about how the dev's favorite story regarding Saints Row 2 was a player who drove a pick-up truck through the city ramming old ladies while his co-op partner skydived naked from a plane into the back of the moving truck, and he wanted Saints Row 3 to be that insane all the time. Between what's been said about the first mission and that E3 footage I'd say they've succeeded. Can't wait to try out one of those STAG jets. I think this trailer captures the spirit of the game best.

I'm not much for games like this as a rule (i've made it a point to avoid GTA entirely), but i played Saints Row 2 on a friend's PS3 for a while and found it to be extremely amusing. I like the fact that the game doesn't try to take itself seriously, so it's good to know that part of the game will be alive and well.
|
Quote:
I am honestly just stoked to see how much better the animations and graphics are in the game when compared to the second game. It's clear that taking resources they devoted to competitive multiplayer really has paid off. |
I care about this!
My friends and I had way too much fun with Saints Row 2, so I can't wait to see what new mayhem is available in this one. The people cannon I saw in one E3 vid looks like a fantastic new toy, and I like that this game will have a proper tank in it too. I wonder what new random minigames for deviant behavior this one will have. |
I'm definitely up for this game in a big way (already pre-ordered it in fact). I loved the silliness and general over-the-top shenanigans that could be had in Saints Row 2 and I loved that game a huge amount despite it's many technical flaws. I'm certainly encouraged by the recent interviews where the developers have been saying their mission statement was to embrace the crazy so I'm definitely excited. Plus a new city to play in, so that's good.
|
Hell yeah cant wait.
everything just looks better in new game. same stupid stuff but with better gfx and controls. |
Ohshi, time to actually play the second one after I (mostly) enjoyed the heck out of the first.

Ok, I'm sold. They had me at apoco-fist, but then they had to throw in airstrikes and tanks and jets. http://www.gamingforce.org/staff/Qwa...8926632121.gif |
It is nice to see that footage without the camera breaking away, and while being able to hear some of the sound effects and such. Seems like they added in a normal white guy voice for males. I'm sure some people will be pleased with that.
|
Oh my god Hulk Hands.
|
Had lots of fun with SR2; still haul it out every now and again. From what's been shown of this entry so far, it would appear that Volition has topped themselves. It's on the queue after things like EDF: Insect Armageddon and WH40K: Space Marine and Bastion...
|
This was posted on the blog on the website. It's a preview for a preorder bonus that I guess is extended to all preorders.
Welp, can't post the video. Just look at the blog I guess. |
Guess I'll be putting in a preorder somewhere soon. The Man-a-pult was one of my favorite parts from that gameplay video, so that alone would be enough to make me put down a couple bucks.
|
I was under the impression the man-a-pult was a regular car, and this is only a skin?
If it's the case that it's entirely exclusive I might be forced to preorder from a non shit retailer at some point. |
Quote:
|
The car with the human face on it was the Gatmobile. The Man-A-Pult has always had the Man-Cat face on it as far as I recall, since I read it's supposed to be for the Professor Genki activity. I did not, however, expect it to be a preorder bonus. I imagine you probably get to use it in game but not unlock it for use outside the activity without the preorder.
|
They are pretty good in Saint's Row about letting you have access to all the toys available. I would imagine the pre-order bonus puts the Man-a-pult in your garage from the get go, while normally you would have to complete all the Professor Genki activities to unlock it for city use. Kind of like the demolition derby cars in SR2.
|
That's true. Even the preorder bonuses like the UFO and mini-bike for SR2 were available with cheats.
Also here's this:

Breakdance into explosion = Win
|
Looks like we got some new gameplay. I think this is the second or first mission, so don't watch if you don't mind minor starting spoilers.
|
|||||
bitch, yo' link be broke.
|
None of my links are broken! Get it together, Arman!
Anyway, because I am obsessed I found some gameplay footage from Gamescom (I think). Not the best quality but it has some footage of a female player (topless), the hover bike, and a Professor Genki mission.

And now, some things that would not be unwelcome in SR3:
|
IGN has a preview of a mission up called Murderbrawl. This shit looks bonkers. I guess this could be a spoiler if you didn't want to know how a boss fight goes. At least I think it's the boss fight.

i cant wait for this!
My biggest problem is i dont have time for this.. and ac:r and batman and some othergame i forgot |
Space them out then, bitch. Don't tell me you didn't want to get in on some co-op with me at some point.
Also there's a new blog post with a video talking about the changes to the driving. http://www.saintsrow.com/blog-post/d...rovements-srtt |
My body is ready. |
|||||
I seriously dig the whole weird Tron thing they have going. Those cars and jackets better be available in game.

I seem to recall one of the pre-release claims made about Saints Row 2 being that any article of clothing you saw in the world could be found for your own use... this not quite being the case was matter for minor disappointment, and the attempts to 'fix' this via DLC were, while passable, not all they could have been. Case in point, whose idea was it to make the SWAT battledress non-customizable? Another... well, let me put it this way, if you want a proper police uniform, that's what the 'FUZZ glitch' is for. |
It seems likely that they will be, only because Volition seems to be learning from their mistakes. Just like how they finally added in Ronin jackets with the DLC you mentioned. I imagine they'll just put shit like that in from the start this time. One hopes, anyway.
|
What's everyone's take on the "40 weeks of DLC" stuff?
Do you think they mean "40 weeks worth", or "one release a week for 40 weeks"? The wording of the release makes it seem more like the former. Which has me worried. Are we looking at possibly cut content for later reselling? I certainly hope not, but the quote Quote:
I honestly don't know what to think. THQ has been absolutely fucking retarded with a lot of things lately, and this game's release date, along with this announcement, has me somewhat worried. Both for the quality of the software and potential lost jobs. Source: THQ CEO talks up cloud gaming, plans 40 weeks of Saints Row 3 DLC | Joystiq |
Yeah, I really hope that's not the case. If we're lucky it means they'll just be giving out more clothes/weapons/whatever often as opposed to sticking them in bought mission packs. But knowing how these companies work I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the worst case scenario.
|
Knowing THQ's financial problems, even the clothes/cosmetic items will not be free.
Cheapish, probably. But not free. |
if they are smart they copy forza 3, give a taste of the clothes with like 4 jackes being free and selling a pack of 10. not that i like it but it sells.
|
The first Q&A video is out. It has some snippets of new footage and who knows, maybe something you were curious about is answered!.
|
|||||
To those that were worried, I read today that the Cockney accent is returning, and they are adding in a Zombie voice option as well. Jesus christ.

For anyone interested, Newegg's offering the game for $47.98 after coupon code EMCYTZT789.

Saints Row: The Third | Community Q&A - Part 2
The laughable new Community Q&A is up, including such important questions as "Can you be a girl?" and "Can you buy buildings?" Not sure what community is asking these questions but it sure isn't the Saints Row one. |

RUMOR: THQ PLANS DLC RAPE
I'll just bold the important parts. Quote:
|
I cancelled my pre-order on it over this bullshit. I hadn't seen the list, but the rumours were enough to get me to back out. Don't like the business model.
|
Quote:
On a lighter note... Yes, that's really in the game; and yes, it's probably acquirable if this achievement is any indication. |
Given THQ's statements and sentiments I'd err on the side of caution here. Considering what they did with the last ATV, I'm kind of inclined to believe this.
At the VERY LEAST, Co-op is probably going to be an online pass. This rumour sounds strangely plausible, despite the lack of hard sourcing. I too am unwilling to buy it if co-op is paid DLC, THQ can fuck right off. |
I forget where I saw this on the actual Saints Row forums, but someone from Volition confirmed that co-op comes with the game. They didn't say as an online pass or whatnot, but I assume they meant as a regular feature. The other things... I am not quite sure what to think. I'd be a little disturbed if they turned out to be true.
Not enough to make me cancel my preorder like Deni, but certainly enough to worry me a little. Also that hover-carrier thing looks fucking awesome. |
Maybe they're including a co-op code that comes with new copies of the game, but if you buy it used then you have to get it as DLC.
|
|
Quote:
And since the airborne base is apparently acquirable, I wonder if it comes with a 'STAG' aesthetic for the Saints... |

Got some new videos here.
First one is someone with a ridiculous character dicking around. Sounds like they put in some sort of Russian accent for female voices. Sweet
Second is a video of someone awful doing Whored Mode

I had not seen those! Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that the Initiation Station is coming out on the 1st of November. The website has some Volition creations already up. Someone needs to school those mofos on how to make a decent character face.
|
Gamespot, as you might have heard, has been giving away IS access codes to its members; as a result the roster of uploaded characters has, ah, expaneded. I was at once amused and surprised to find this rendering of Hatsune Miku...
They also have an 'hour one' video of sorts which covers not only the bank robbery and that pleasant flight, but your first orders of business once you have boots on the ground in Steelport. |
I did know about that, in fact! I was too busy using it to remember to post that information here. The new character creator is pretty in depth. You can actually make some really decent looking faces with the new art style. Plus, it's nice that females have their own model now.
They did seem to remove SOME things from clothing, though. Like choosing socks, or being able to layer things. Jackets with undershirts are now just whole sets as opposed to two separate items, but otherwise it's a pretty nice improvement. I love the new voices. |
And here we have another early gameplay video, which focuses on your first mission once you put boots on the ground in Steelport...
More parts are promised. |
So you guys have this yet? IT's awesome and really fun. whored mode is silly but i see it being fun if you playing with someone funn

Not the 15th yet in America. So fuck you, Arman. Fuck you HARD.

So basically like Crackdown 2's story line. Gotcha.
With so many unfinished games right now, this will be bought most likely next year (or this year but the end of December most likely, along with Arkham City and Revelations for the PC) |
So im like the best ever at ths game. Play me and my squid gun if you dare

According to my save file I've played 9 hours and am already 44% through the game. Holy shit. I really hope it isn't going to turn out super short and it's only saying that because of my penchant for activities.
|
I have created my main character. He is Childish Gambino and he looks like Donald Glover. I have ascended to metageek.

But considering how much of a focus they've made on cutting content to resell to you later, this really shouldn't be surprising. 40 weeks! My half-joking aside, I think someone said something like the minor activities like the chop shop stuff and so forth doesn't even contribute to the percentage much, if at all, so. Maybe it's weighted funny. Are stunt rings still in? |

So far it's totally middling. I like the randomness and such, but it gets stupid quick.
|
Glad to hear that we saved some bucks then. We're slated to have this via rental so at least it'll be a good rental to blow through considering how short.
But still, I hope this doesn't set the standard for SR games. Short campaign and all that. |
Quote:
So is this game going to be a thing? I might rent it if there's enough of you fags playing it. |
Quote:
|
Just rent it.
It's light on content, especially compared to it's predecessor, and it fits the bill much better for that than a purchase. It's fun but I feel like I got jacked after buying it full price. |
Is it really light on content? If anything it's on the same level as SR2. I honestly dont feel like "woah this chunk is gone".
I dont regret buying it since this will be a game i'll put in regurarly until the xbox dies. It's one of those "oh shit remember when u did that a while ago?" like Halo CE, shove it in and play for 30 min. |
Less clothes, less cars, less missions, less diversions, less activities, half the main story missions are activities in disguise. Less guns, less planes.
Where is Fuzz? Where is Septic Avenger, why is there less music, less radio stations, and no collectible CDs? Tagging is out, ALL Jobs are out, so no police/firetruck/taxi/ambulance/tow truck missions are all gone. Why is there increased customization in the cars (and an infinitely better handling model) if there's no destruction derby or street races? Why are car hydraulics missing? Why are there only two instances of Guardian Angel? Why is there less of everything that IS here? Why is half of trailblazing a very awful tron tube racer? Yeah, it's light on content. Really light on content. Yeah, it's extremely disappointing. It's not a bad game but damn. I wasn't expecting less than half the game SR2 was. |
hum never really thought about the clothes (havent played that much tbh), the story missions to be fair in Sr2 many were just copy pastes of eachother so I don't really mind quality over quantatiy (not saying that every mission is A+ in sr3). CD's are replaced by that autograph hunt I dont mind the taxi shit being gone, that was just annoying.
The rest actually yeah i agree with lol. Now I'm even more curious about their DLC's. |
Yeah, I'm not trying to say it's a bad title. Just that it's lacking as a sequel and feels disjointed. It's not often that I can play a game and literally see the parts that were removed to sell to you later.
|
Though I'm still not 100% on this game, I am super impressed by the soundtrack. Tons of great hip hop, the theme songs to the venture bros and ATHF... just epic.
|
Even the Kanye West track suits the game, and I'm not normally a big fan of his. I think the soundtrack is a bit more limited, and the 80s/90s station is missing some variety and obvious choices, but overall the music is not bad.
100%'d this earlier today though. Fun but I can't shake the feeling of so much missing, and the second half (the good half) is much too short to make me really consider investing in the DLC. I'll definitely help fuck around in other people's files if they want to invite me though. |
Quote:
Also, I won't go heavily into why I was a little disappointed by this game, since it seems everybody's covered the major problems, but to be honest, I liked when they straddled the line between dark crime and over the top. Going full-on into madness mode really detracted from the experience for me. It seems like they totally gave up on the characters and story, and wanted to just throw in a bunch of big, scripted craziness missions. Also the lack of clothes layering? I really ended up missing that. I hate that some of the tops or bottoms I like come with stupid shit I can't remove. |
