Attention all Delvers! (Also those who would like to be delvers)

GFF D&D is expanding!

Well probably. This thread is to gauge current interest in GFF D&D. Since the list of people who are interested in playing the game is a little outdated, we need everyone who is still interested in playing to state their intentions as such in this thread.

If you thought about signing up in the past, but didn't think you had enough time, never fear! Plans for a new system for swapping out characters are in the works. Remember how Suikoden games had your party out and about while everyone else just hung out at the castle? From what i understand, it'll be similar to that. So you can play an adventure, and then drop out if you need to, then pick up the game again with your same character.

Never played D&D before? Not a problem! If the interest is high enough to warrant it, I'd like to run an adventure for level 1 characters, for people who want to play but aren't too sure of themselves. This will allow new players to get a basic grasp of the flow of the game, while not having to worry about slowing up the more experienced ones. It also means fewer abilities to keep track of, which is great for me because I would be the one running this game, which is a bad enough idea as it is.

So post! Post like the wind! Even if you've expressed interest before, we need to know that you're still around.

I'll tentatively throw my hat into the ring. I haven't played since the days of 3rd edition (and 3.5 to some extent), and 4th seemed too streamlined to me. Hating future editions is something of a tradition though, so I should still give it a try. Hopefully I won't be an incredibly boring player.

Also, I only just noticed that Pang didn't make this thread. Spot check failed.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 12, 2010 09:59 PM

I'm still in, but aren't we doing that guild thing?

EDIT:

I READ GOOD. I thought this was regarding a different multiplayer system. I'm not going to need to have to bother with the introductory stuff though.

Zergrinch Oct 12, 2010 10:22 PM

I would like to test a few concepts in your game :)

Edit: Oh, Level 1. :( Okay. Put me on the reserve list, I guess. Give priority to the never-playeds.

Skexis Oct 12, 2010 10:30 PM

This thread is relevant to all of my interests.

Also, my heart.

Strange|Gnome Oct 12, 2010 10:48 PM

I'd be interested in stepping into the ring for this.

Turbo Oct 12, 2010 10:48 PM

Sign me up.

i am good at jokes Oct 12, 2010 11:06 PM

I'll throw my hat in with this lot.

Additional Spam:
A lot of hats here it seems.

FatsDomino Oct 12, 2010 11:09 PM

I still need to read a bunch of the current and last adventure but I still love our D&D stuff. So yeah of course I'm interested.

Philia Oct 12, 2010 11:10 PM

Total noob but count me interested?

No. Hard Pass. Oct 12, 2010 11:12 PM

You know I'm in.

Zergrinch Oct 12, 2010 11:41 PM

Hmm, more new guys than I'd think. Hawk, Rune Factory on Cocaine is Skills. Though admittedly that may be meaningless now, because I don't remember the last time he posted as Colonel Skills :tpg:

Animechanic Oct 12, 2010 11:48 PM

I'll join the fun. I fell behind on all the DnD stuff when I was offline for 6 months, but if you're starting up something new I'm there.

Dark Nation Oct 12, 2010 11:54 PM

I'll give it a tentative shot :)

coeccias Oct 12, 2010 11:56 PM

I will sign up though it may mean I lose my Asian Jesus powers indefinitely.

The unmovable stubborn Oct 13, 2010 12:26 AM

Question: Were you new guys just hesitant about jumping in at a higher level, or just didn't know I was accepting new players, or what?

Or you personally hate me :(

It's very encouraging to see some unexpected names in here but where have you guys been for two years?

This thread is a necessity I guess since I've had several people sign up in the past and either waffle endlessly about actually sitting the fuck down at the table or else disappear off the face of the planet.

This is great. I guess I should assume most of you are signing up for Hawk's level 1 deal; I won't try to poach his players until you've been through basic training. Still, this'll be the list for both games. If you're on my list but declined a play invitation I'll be removing you, sign back up here if you decide you actually want to play at some point chumps.

Zergrinch Oct 13, 2010 12:32 AM

The sense I'm getting is, many thought the Adventures were chronological in nature, and that you'd have to read everything to get an understanding of the current game. Not the case at all, of course, but the prospect of reading hundreds of pages does seem daunting.

Animechanic Oct 13, 2010 12:38 AM

I took myself off your list after it became apparent I would be moving and spending some time in an internet-free zone (plus I figured I'd bugger off since I was annoying some of your players). I don't mind playing higher levels, and I know the 4E rules, so feel free to poach me if you need a player. I'll just have no idea what the gang has been up to on prior adventures.

Scent of a Grundle Oct 13, 2010 01:00 AM

Knowledge of the previous adventures is completely unnecessary, and probably will be in both games. There might be a few in-jokes or recurring characters, but it won't be anything critical. Feel free to jump into either game if you know the rules - i'm basically running my first game for, as Pang put it, D&D 101. After that we'll probably level-warp everyone up to the rest of the group and continue, mixing up groups as we go etc.

coeccias Oct 13, 2010 01:01 AM

I developed an interest when I inadvertently wandered into a warp pipe cleverly hidden in Hawkeye's journal and found myself in this thread. As for the last two years, I was rather engrossed in a Choose Your Own Adventure book and did not have the free time to participate (turning to page 6 took me 3 whole months).

Scent of a Grundle Oct 13, 2010 01:02 AM

I didn't think anyone read that thing anymore.

coeccias Oct 13, 2010 01:08 AM

Armed with a bottle of ether and a rag, I gained the assistance of passersby, and with the aid of these eager recruits, I was able to reenact the situations I faced daily in The Cave of Time. Without the sacrifice of these brave souls, I would not have survived the harrowing ordeal that is turning to page 6.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Oct 13, 2010 03:48 AM

I'm still interested. Good idea running people who haven't played the basics through some level 1 content to get things going.

VitaminZinc Oct 13, 2010 03:57 AM

I'd be up for giving it a try.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Oct 13, 2010 06:21 AM

I'm on the other list but I really like being on lists so put me on this one too please.

Shorty Oct 13, 2010 08:22 AM

Complete nub cadet here, signing up for basic training.

Stop Sign Oct 13, 2010 08:59 AM

Oh hey, sign me up too.

Scent of a Grundle Oct 14, 2010 12:50 AM

Well, i think that's about all of the people we're going to get, so those who want to play from level 1 should say so specifically. You should also say whether you want me to make a character for you or if want to do it yourself. Making your own character is quite easy, and all of the books you could possibly want. You can feel free to read them all and know everything, or just figure it out as you go. Looking at some of the finished adventures can be helpful as well, if just for getting a feel for how the game flows.

If you do want me to make your character, give me a vague idea of what you want, and i'll set you up. This game won't be starting up for a while, as the castle you're to be invading / investigating / looting only has one empty entrance hallway thus far, but character set-up is going to take some time anyway.

NOTE: THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CANNOT STILL SIGN UP.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 14, 2010 12:53 AM

I'll play from level one, but if someone who is new to D&D wants to play go ahead and bump me back. I'd rather get some new blood, but I'm happy to fill out the ranks.

Dark Nation Oct 14, 2010 01:07 AM

I'll start out at level 1 as well. As for my type of character, wouldn't it somewhat depend on the setting? ...Was that mentioned somewhere already? :erm:

I kinda know a little about D&D from various sources but I think I'd like to start out blind, get the fresh experience of going into the unknown, or something like that.

Zergrinch Oct 14, 2010 01:38 AM

Hawk, so that you don't get overwhelmed, consider running one of the published modules. Keep on the Shadowfell will work, and it's even got five pre-made characters ready to go.

Or Adventure Paths. Scales of War is finished. Chaos Scar ongoing, if I recall correctly.

Or do the Dungeon Delve. Just make sure you change the final boss, since Pang used him already in Dungeon of Doom.

Scent of a Grundle Oct 14, 2010 02:12 AM

I'm thinking i might do the Keep. It's a longer adventure, but that's probably the best way to go to make sure everything is covered (leveling up, etc.)

The unmovable stubborn Oct 14, 2010 02:15 AM

KotS is... SERVICEABLE, that's the best I can say for it. Yeah it covers everything but it's the very first 4E product, printed even before the PHB, and it really really shows. If you decide to go with that be ready to gloss over some truly ridiculous moments.

I did?

Zergrinch Oct 14, 2010 03:22 AM

Yep, that dragon which was unable to kill Argumentus though not for lack of trying...

Edit: Okay, so I don't know my white dragon wyrmlings from the black dragon ones :(

i am good at jokes Oct 14, 2010 10:06 AM

I'd also be willing to start out at level 1, seeing that the whole adventuring part of the game I haven't really had a chance to experiment with in the arena.

At the moment I'm just interested in being on a reserve list, somewhere out there. It doesn't bother me if I wind up in one group or the other. The way I figure it, this guild system should work better either way with my work schedule. =)

At least for me, it was a little intimidating when I jumped into an existing group with an existing DM and very little knowledge of how the game was played. There's a worry there that you'll end up stepping on toes, but as easygoing as the adventures have been so far, my advice to the newcomers is not to worry about it too much. 4e is pretty easy to figure out once you find the handlebars.

Stop Sign Oct 14, 2010 11:17 PM

Level 1's fine with me.

Scent of a Grundle Oct 14, 2010 11:55 PM

So thus far we have 3 people plus Deni if we need him. You three need to tell me whether you want me to build your character for you or if you want to jump in and try doing it yourself. I'd like another person to bring the group up to 5, but if this is what we've got then we can work with it.

Zergrinch Oct 15, 2010 01:06 AM

Eh? I'm counting over a dozen interested. If no one else steps up, I'll be happy to play any role that the existing party needs. It shouldn't take too long for me to make a level 1 dude.

i am good at jokes Oct 15, 2010 01:07 AM

I'd like to roll my own character if your ok with that. I'm looking at the Avenger class as it has piqued my interest. I should be able to roll it up over the weekend. Also, it seems that this would make me a striker.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 15, 2010 01:23 AM

He means folks specifically asking for his training seminar, Zerg.

I know Philia specifically wanted that too, Hawk, so be sure to double check with her.

i am good at jokes Oct 15, 2010 01:34 AM

A Githzerai Avenger sounds like it could be interesting, so that will be it.

Turbo Oct 15, 2010 09:31 AM

I'm still interested. As for characters, I'm more or less a DnD virgin. Sure I overhear conversations about it but nothing in detail. At least nothing I understand.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 15, 2010 11:35 AM

I can roll my own, just let me know if you need me.

Scent of a Grundle Oct 15, 2010 02:27 PM

I forgot to mention - all of the books one might need to pick out a character are in Pang's main thread here. Use the Player's Handbook. You can read them as much or as little as you want, though i would advise at least glancing at the combat rules section, as that's probably the most complex part of the game.

i am good at jokes Oct 15, 2010 04:11 PM

Here he is folks, Daituk Orjerbs, Githzerai Avenger extraordinaire!
