Silent Hill - Origins

Well, it seems those rumors of a remake were kinda true. It seems that Konami as announced some of it's line-up for this year and 'Silent Hill - Original Sin' for PSP is suppose ot be one. Coming out in October it seems.

http://www.orangeloungeradio.com/php...rder=0&thold=0

Dunno if it's 100% legit, but if it's true, it sucks balls. I'm a Silent Hill fanatic, but I won't dish out 300$ for a PSP to play this. And how are they suppose to 'scare' the player on a portable system. Hope not.

Neogin Apr 12, 2006 03:21 PM

Capcom tried the samething with Resident Evil DS. It wasn't successful.

Well, let's see if there will be anymore news about the new Silent Hill..

Zurc Apr 12, 2006 03:23 PM

Oh man I just made the same topic at the same time lol.

Sexninja Apr 12, 2006 03:34 PM

Enough Silenthill ,go with something different on PSP.

I thought Deadly Silence was awesome. ;_; I loved the new puzzles.

JazzFlight Apr 12, 2006 03:49 PM

Heh, in both the Ace Combat thread and this one, it seems like the only naysayers are people who don't have a PSP.

Go whine somewhere else.

Whiners. =P

Zurc Apr 12, 2006 04:07 PM

I hope they won't end up making every kind of thing like Capcom did with RE. Deadly Silence, Gun Survivor and such.

a few twists, huh ? this should be interesting. I need a game to play on the psp anyway

JasonTerminator Apr 15, 2006 03:30 AM

Fuck, this is really making the PSP something I'll want to pick up this year. It's finally getting the games it needed to compete with the DS.

map car man words telling me to do things Apr 15, 2006 03:48 AM

An updated Silent Hill wouldn't be too bad actually (especially if they bother making the voice acting decent this time around), but really, another remake/port? =/

It's like platform games for the SNES.

valiant Apr 20, 2006 03:07 AM

Yeah fix up the voice acting, the cut screens. Clean up a few things in the game...there you have it...great remake for psp! (I want this game...if it is real. I always wanted to play Silent Hill on the go...now if SH2 came out...that would be bliss)

SketchTheArtist May 8, 2006 10:23 AM

Seems to be confirmed; here's a pic from Konami's booth.

Fixed

randomwab May 8, 2006 12:21 PM

Awesome, thanks Sketch, this has me more excited about E3 now

Rockgamer May 8, 2006 12:36 PM

Considering I never played the first game (or any of them, even though I own Silent Hill 2), this would probably be a good way to start. Might as well, since I'm gonna have to get a PSP for that new MGS game anyway.

SketchTheArtist May 8, 2006 12:44 PM

I truely hope it is for a console instead of the PSP. There's rumors flying around that it is indeed for the PS2.

I hope so.

Cirno May 8, 2006 12:49 PM

I own a PSP and I'd rather play this on my PS2. As cool as a portable Silent Hill sounds, I'd like to have the option of playing it either at home or on the go. It would be mighty cool if the first game go a facelift for the PS2, and that's really the only thing I'm concerned about. I don't think the PSP is going to make it look that much better.

Still, playing the game on the PSP, with headphones, would be interesting.

Anubis May 8, 2006 12:57 PM

Silent Hill on a PSP... *imagines RE Deadly Silence* *shivers*
As most of you said, they should release this for PS2 and not a portable console... I mean, the graphics, gameplay, music, it will all be pretty much the same as the original.

Rockgamer May 8, 2006 01:05 PM

PS2 would be better, that way you could play all the Silent Hill games on one console (without having to locate a PS1 copy). I think that would work best, but I don't see Konami doing that.

What was that about RE: Deadly Silence?
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/review/929584.html
http://www.gamestats.com/objects/767...s.html#reviews

Looks like it got acceptable reviews to me.

The graphics will be improved, since the PSP is essentially just a little less powerful than PS2. The gameplay will be improved since it will probably take the control and inventory systems from the later SH games. I don't see how the music aspect fits into this.

Hell, if you try hard enough, you can make a portable game scarier than a console one.

-Play under the covers, where the only light is coming from the screen of the PSP.
-Play outside in a dark field or forest, where you'd be shitting in your pants anyway. Add in Silent Hill = Double Scary.

Trailer and such

valiant May 9, 2006 07:45 PM

Ok one thing for certain...it ISN'T a remake of the PS1 silent hill...

This looks VERY interesting, really daunting trailer but no gameplay...I am willing to buy this (heck even upgrade) to play this game. This is EXACTLY what I wanted to see in a silent hill game...psychotic disorders, disturbed minds of a typical Joe of a truck driver, etc... EXCELLENT! I am very happy so far...

Inhert May 9, 2006 08:13 PM

what can I say more?! oh yeah... I want it NOW! XD

Rockgamer May 9, 2006 09:00 PM

Aww, I actually wanted a remak, since i still haven't played the first one yet. Maybe this does mean that they'll consider making one for the PS2 though. Oh well, this game still looks good though.

valiant May 9, 2006 11:21 PM

This game looks a lot like Silent Hill 2 ish style...where you are at the town itself rather than randomly being teleported to it like SH 3,and 4. I am excited, though I hope to see more daytime fog silent hill.

It's called an AUTOMOBILE. Technology is scary uh? ;-)

valiant May 10, 2006 01:36 PM

Good point...3rd's character couldn't drive (at least to my knowledge), and 4th was stuck in his house...wahah scary technology wooo

*hides in the corner*

SketchTheArtist May 10, 2006 01:40 PM

Heather was driven to Silent Hill by Douglas, a Private Eye who's job was to look after her.

chato May 10, 2006 01:59 PM

YES!. Since its not a remake, maybe we'll get a playable character who has a more twisted background story compared to 1-4's ^^;.

Great visuals, great song a must check for any Silenthill fan.

I am already hooked, can't wait to play the game.

There are gameplay videos are online too,the RE4 camera is being implented.

randomwab Aug 24, 2006 05:56 PM

Loving the new trailer and new Yamaoka stuff. I'll wait until I get my hands on the game before I comment on the gameplay.

Inhert Aug 24, 2006 09:26 PM

wow look so great for psp game! I kind of like the new view (R4 view) but I hope you can enlarge it.

I really like the new song and I'm so happy that they took the same singer again ^^ I love her voice and it feel so well the game.

I'm a little disappointed by the monster though... they look too human, there's not really something special about them...(look too much like zombie)

Sharaz Jek Sep 2, 2006 04:44 AM

I'm glad the series isn't finished, although I don't feel like shelling out for a PSP for one game, no matter how good it might be. I wish they'd port it over. Maybe as part of a compilation or something.

midais Sep 4, 2006 10:12 AM

Looks like Climax Studios is developing Origins, while Team Silent is working on Silent Hill 5.

Judging by the screenshots, interface and monster design, I can't really get excited about this really.

I just started playing it right now. So far one familiar face and everything else is just awesome. Music kicks ass too. Thanks for the rip, Ninja. =]

LS Aug 21, 2007 06:12 AM

Got the Demo, pretty sweet actually, Although the Joe Schmoe face of the main dude is pissing me off.

One thing that annoys me is that fact that most of the monsters need at least 5-6 fully charged swings before they die, which is a waste because you know~

chato Aug 21, 2007 09:10 AM

Yeah I just noticed that through my second playthrough in the game. I'm sure konami will add some emotion ;p . Right now I'm glad to hear those "sirens" back in action XD. However, I do want to see some new monsters. It may be a prequel but 1 new scary face should be enough.. Any idea when the game is coming out?

Inhert Aug 21, 2007 02:05 PM

wow really great demo! the new system when a nurse try to stab you and you have to hit x as fast as i could was great ^^ but I hate that you loose your weapon when that happen (I wonder if it's a glitch)

oh and btw:
Spoiler:
is he demo really suppose to finish when you kill the patient demon and you pick that pyramid thing?

as for release date: I saw November 6 for the US but October for the PAL release. (good thing the psp is zone free :P)

Killy Aug 21, 2007 04:55 PM

That music rip was very poor in quality. For those of you interested, me and Parjay will be releasing an edited VBR version of it in a few days. Personally, I think the music is very promising. It's a shame I don't have a PSP though, as I would've certainly enjoyed playing the demo.

Inhert Aug 21, 2007 07:23 PM

great! I'm looking forward to your rip Killy ^^

Kairi Li Aug 22, 2007 03:57 AM

I've just got the demo, but have never dealt with ISO loaders before. I got firmware 3.40OE-A by Dark Alex. What do I do? Which loader worked for the SH 0 Demo?

Rock Aug 22, 2007 04:25 AM

Wow, this game is amazing. The graphics are the best I've ever seen on the PSP. Combat and controls are the best for the series as well. I didn't expect too much from Silent Hill Origins but I was totally blown away. If they take their time to tweak it even further, the end result is sure to be outstanding.

I just wish I could make screenshots, but for some reason, they come out all distorted (using SVCapture). The game seems to use an odd video mode, maybe that's the reason.

I also like how the "demo" ISO contains every single FMV and the complete soundtrack, apparently. There might even be away to unlock the entire game ...

Just put the file into the \ISO\ folder in the root of your Memory Stick and load it via the game item in the XMB.

Kairi Li Aug 22, 2007 04:28 AM

Ah, where should the ISO folder be?

Sexninja Aug 22, 2007 04:56 AM

In the main root folder.
Just open up the usb icon on my computer and make the ISO folder.

Kairi Li Aug 22, 2007 05:50 AM

Ok, the PSP said "game could not be started".

What gives? The file I got is CSO. From Demonoid.

Sexninja Aug 22, 2007 06:16 AM

Then your firmware don't support it.

Rock Aug 22, 2007 06:26 AM

I'm using the same custom firmware (3.40 OE-A) and my CSO works perfectly. It's probably just a configuration error.

Kairi Li Aug 22, 2007 06:31 AM

Config error, alot of the ISO options were disabled. Thanks!

Holy crap, the framerate is amazing! Or is it my firmware config?

Damn the demo is fun, and creepy. I ususally WATCH my Boyfriend play SH... I don't play too much myself, but I'm loving this new combat system.

And looks like the developers got some ideas from Dead Rising. TV in your face, Nurse Bitch!

Lighting, graphics, ambience, video filter effects, music, sound... This is defintly gonna be a great addition to the SH series!

Zorro Aug 22, 2007 10:22 AM

Thanks for uploading the rip, Sexninja. Although the quality could be better, it's great to get to listen to it at all.

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to your edit, Killy.

Killy Aug 23, 2007 09:07 AM

The rip is up, just follow the link in my signature to my gamerips thread and you'll find the server info there. I have no PSP, so I was unable to give the songs appropriate titles. However, I edited (normalised, looped where possible) all the songs and encoded in VBR. Total playtime is roughly 3 hours, which is alot for a demo.

Gonna have to work on my postcount, then ;)

That's because the demo apparently contains the entire game. Props to the mole inside Konami who leaked it.

edit: Which has been stated by Rock already =(

Killy Aug 23, 2007 06:34 PM

Hmm, too bad the game isn't out then, someone could've worked on a proper tracklist.

Rock Aug 28, 2007 11:36 AM

Here's a bunch of screenshots:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...8270336117.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...8270336109.jpg

The visual detail is just stunning. Also note how the flashlight is casting real-time shadows for all objects.

speculative Aug 28, 2007 01:23 PM

Those screenshots make me think the PSP is just a bit more powerful than the PS1 was? At any rate, they look really splendid. When I look at all the PSP software out there compared to the DS software, and factor in the recent PSP price drop, it boggles my mind why the PSP isn't doing better against the DS.

Rock Aug 28, 2007 02:46 PM

There have been a whole lot of excellent PSP games lately and they all look an awful lot better than PS1 games. Remember that PS1 didn't have texture filtering, so everything was really pixelated. Granted, the PSPs weakness is the limited graphics memory (2 MB), so a lot of these textures are blurry.

Looking at Silent Hill Origins and upcomming titles such as Wipeout Pulse and God of War, I would say PSP graphics are a lot closer to PS2 than they are to PS1, actually.

Solis Aug 28, 2007 04:48 PM

I'm actually very impressed with how good it looks from the demo. The framerate was surprisingly smooth, and the flashlight looked amazingly good. I never thought we'd see realtime lighting effects of this caliber out of the PSP, especially after seeing how much Splinter Cell was downgraded. The gameplay seemed like classic Silent Hill, but with a few updates and refinements. Wonder how long the full game will be.

Oh, and the PSP seems to be right smack dab between the PS1 and PS2 in terms of performance. The resolution, textures, effects, polygons, etc. all are pretty much right between the two systems. Although the recent firmware updates which allow games to run at 333mhz will probably push it a bit closer to the PS2 in that area.

Andrew Evenstar Aug 28, 2007 08:28 PM

This looks awesome. I want to play the demo! When does this come out?

chato Nov 6, 2007 11:17 PM

Hey did anyone get it today? Got mine earlier so I'm looking into the intro. Not bad so far. The man Travis Grady doesn't look to have that gloomy look like in the demo but during in-game, sort of. He's that cool dude >=p.

So did anyone get the game or tomorrow?

Sepharite Nov 6, 2007 11:18 PM

I'd rather keep the tuition money for something else ;p. I'm still into the same place where the demo starts you off. Just play the iso. Tomorrow I'm going to grab that component cable to check and see how the game looks on my hdtv..

Spoiler:
The meeting with Michael Kaufman was actually a bit longer than the demo.

Inhert Nov 8, 2007 04:31 PM

well I just finished the game and got the good ending. I have to say the experience was very good!. A very solid silent hill game.

The story could maybe have been better, but it was still good.

Now I'm going for the bad ending, I saw the CG on youtube but I would like to finished the game with the bad ending just in case it's explain more.

the only thing the game miss, is more disturbing scene. there wasn't memorable scene like in the other or when there's some it wasn't really well made (the butcher scene was done very too quickly I think)

Sepharite Nov 13, 2007 09:54 PM

Can someone help me? I'm in the sanitaruim.

Spoiler:
I just drained the tub + the key. I'm in the Other World, and in the East Pipe room. I read that the INTERVIEW ARCHIVES KEY should be here. But I don't see it. I see a goatse-like hole on the floor. Nice.

Inhert Nov 13, 2007 10:35 PM

ok I put it in spoiler that just in case

Spoiler:
I don't remember exactly how you got there, but you have to go in the bathroom on the floor immediately below the tub(you need to past by the other world to get to that bathroom). When in the bathroom you'll find a toilet that is blocked with god know what (a classic in SH series), so you need to flush the toilet which will flush the key too. The key will than fall in the basement and you'll need to go in the other world basement to get there (because you will not be able to reach the key in the normal basement)

I hope it will help a little XD

The hotel area is the last area of the game. There is a small mini stage left, but you're pretty much at the last half hour or so.

So how long it took everyone on their first playthrough? Honestly, it was 4 hours and 55 mins for me. I wasn't going to expect a shitload of areas because its Silent Hill, a town where you lurk around the same streets but end up in new places. Overall I loved the game with its melee system and story.

Spoiler:
Ending was pretty nice. Good to know that Travis was able to get out of SH after that bullshit. The boss wasn't hard so I had more than enough bullets to have fun against this demon. You can even go melee on this fucker =].

So I guess it was Alessa who put that baby in Harry's wife. Good to hear his voice but it sucks so hard to know the fate of Harry in SH3..

I'll probably go through my second playthrough since I obtained NVG and the "Infinity Gauntlet" XD. Time to kill everyone THANOS STYLE XD.

I´m somewhere in the theater and I absolutely love the game. The one thing I have to critisize is that Origins is just not a very portable game.

It´s not just that dark areas can be hard to see if you play in the sunlight or that loud surroundings like commuter trains hurt the sound of the game. It´s that you need to have a pen and a piece of paper with you to take notes for the puzzles.

Well, the only alternative I can think og would be to dumb everything down so you don´t have to combine bits of information anymore. Hm - better not. ;)

Infernal Monkey Jan 14, 2008 10:46 PM

Grave diggin' a tad here. Turns out this is another PSP game getting thrown onto PS2. Due to hit early March-ish.

I was planning on picking up the PSP version eventually, but naaawt anymaaaaw!

chato Jan 14, 2008 11:21 PM

This coulda been better if it were available on the ps3 for download. This aint bad either but a few graphic upgrade will be needed. This is proof that SH0 did very well on the psp. Too bad there's no release date for it yet.

Zuare Jan 14, 2008 11:31 PM

Is there a source for this news?
I think it's probably true, but I can't seem to find any websites reporting it.

dagget Feb 15, 2008 11:03 AM

I finished this game the other day and I have to say it's scared the shit out of me on a couple of levels. I'm not too fond of a couple of things though. A. Monsters aggro on you waaaay too bad. I can be outside and barely see the static and hear "RAAURGH" and here comes one of those skinwalking spitters out of no where. B. if you have too many monsters on you, there's nothing you can do. You're dead. C. There's no outrunning shit like you could in the other Silent Hill games.

Other than those things, I absolutely love this game. I got the Brawler achievement and when I restarted, got the Moon Gauntlets and a few costumes. The monster designs have been interesting. I like how there's a new one related to each area. (The ones in the motel freaked me the fuck out though)

Then how the fuck did you beat it then? Did you seriously just dodge them or something? Best weapon for them would be?

dagget Feb 15, 2008 04:41 PM

lol. If you have your flashlight off, they don't "see" you. So I just snuck up and just beat the fuck out of shit with my fists. Outside, I found a little "trick" that I just ran around until I found a building I could enter. Once I entered the building and went back outside, they reset to where ever they were. I think at the end, my enemies killed by fists was like 111.

The hard part was timing the punches from that thing that looked like an giant ass scraping on it's floppy head... and I just shot those fucking shade walking things in the hospital.

Yeah... PSP controls isn't forgiving with this game either. :\ But yeah... those (FIRST BOSS) enemies are brutal. I just couldn't bring myself to head outside without fearing those things GUNNING FOR ME! OMG. That's just what I don't understand, the previous Silent Hills weren't THIS bad in terms of monsters just GOING AFTER YOU LIKE THEY GOT NOTHING TO DO. Its hard to appreciate the nature of this game without worrying constantly about enemies in general.

Thank you for the tip on the flashlight. I'll be sure to have it off. I do remember doing that trick with in and out reseting their positions in the previous silent hills. Shame that the weapons break too often. It'd be nice if we could like double up our fist power OR SOMETHING.

Beat the game with beating as many enemies with your bare fists as you can. If you can get the timing right, most every enemy can be killed by punching the fuck out of it. You should get the Brawler achievement. I think that's what unlocked the Moon Gauntlets and I believe those are like a permanent upgrade for your fists. I killed a nurse in just two hits. I'm going to play through it again to see if I can unlock anything else. My friend (who finished it about the same time I did) got Night Vision goggles as part of his end-game goodies.
