Smokers Anonymous
Do you smoke?
How do you feel about smokers? How do you feel about them smoking in your presence? If you are a smoker, what do you smoke? How much does it cost you per month? Is it worth it? Do you want to quit? I smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights. I spend $5 on each pack I smoke. And I smoke about a pack a day. And what really pisses me off is that in the cold of winter, I have to move 20 feet away from the doors of a building to smoke. |
I smoke. Constantly. Typicially Marlboro, Winston or Camels. Whatever is cheapest at the time. If I send someone else to buy them for me (like a friend for instance) he always seems to buy Newports which are kinda disgusting for me. They're almost too minty. I'd say an average of $5 to $10 a day on cigarettes. Usually one pack maybe a pack and some from another but rarely two whole ones unless I go out to a big gathering and have people grubbing left and right.
The habit does not bother me at all despite my dad wanting me to quit to put cigarette money in a retirement fund. |
I still smoke though I am working on quitting. As for what it costs me, I figure about $60 a month give or take.
Is it worth it, not really. As for what I smoke that would be good old Marlboro Lights. Even at home I don't smoke indoors, so being outside in the middle of winter doesn't bother me too much. |
Smokers do what they have to do. Can't have any less respect for them. Now, if they start hacking in between puffs and coughing up goodness knows what, maybe it's time for a lifestyle change.
I don't find myself in the company of smokers often (except lately, at the pool hall/bar I've been frequenting, and that's negligible exposure), but if I was in with a group of smokers I couldn't stand it, probably. |
I don't smoke myself, but I really enjoy the smell of secondhand smoke for some reason. I have no desire to smoke myself (not because "it's wrong", but mainly because I feel it's a waste of money), but I don't mind being arounf other smokers. Sometimes I actually enjoy it.
|
I have always wondered how it must feel to get your ass KICKED, on a regular basis, by a little cancer stick. The foul smell is probably the biggest problem that most people have with other people smoking, I am sure, and I suppose it is no different for me.
|
I love the smell of a cigarette burnin'. Plan on trying it sometime soon. I honestly don't have an addictive personality. Will probably just do it once in a blue moon if someone offers me a cig.
|
That's what they all say....
|
I don't smoke. My Mother does. If some people are happy to pay money just to degrade their own health that's their own business.
When you smoke in presence of someone, he smokes too. So if anyone smokes in my presence, I tell him to move away and if doesn't care, I explain him that it's not fair to force someone (who has chosen not to smoke) to smoke. I just can't stand people who don't care to fill the whole room I am in with their smoke. |
I find smoking very pleasurable unfortunately. There's just something appealing about it. Luckily I usually only smoke when I'm drinking cause if I smoked a lot I'd be spending something like $8 a pack. When I was out East I smoked a hell of a lot, one cause I was drinking nearly all the time, and two because in China a pack of ciggaretts can cost as little as $0.30 depending on the type. In other words smoking is awesome. Smoke or be square.
Here in Canada if I were to buy cigarettes I'd buy Player's Light. |
I don't smoke. It's just not me. Also I don't wanna get cancer. I don't support it either. But I don't have problems with people who do. If they wanna smoke they can. It's their life.
The smell bothers me sometimes. Especially weed. My senior year in high school, there was this boy who came to school EVERYDAY smelling like weed. |

I don't smoke and don't have anything against smokers. But what I don't understand is why take up smoking cigarettes? As far as I know they don't have an purpose, all they are is harmful to your body. Say with marijuana you can get high, but with cigarettes I don't see a similar purpose.
|
I don't smoke, I have always been against doing that stuff. I am even against friends doing it around me, I cannot stand the smell AT ALL. I get serious headaches just from the smell of the smoke.
I don't know why I am as against it as much as I am, I just find it to be a rediculous habbit and hate seeing people I am good friends with doing it. |
I don't smoke, and nobody in my family does either. I don't really mind other smokers -- but only if they have the decency to stand upwind. Not exactly enamoured of people who light up and blow smoke right into a crowd.

Though I find it a lot more mentally addictive than I do physically. I am sure I could go without the nicotene, but my fidgety, pro-productive nature makes me want to smoke constantly. Driving in the car, I light up maybe every 20 minutes or so. Here at the computer, I smoke every 15 minutes or so. Mostly because I can't sit still for the life of me. Smoking really calms me too. On work days where I have an incredibly stressful workload, I reward myself for my productivity with a smoke. This is probably the most addictive characteristic I can think of. If I quit, I wouldn't have anything to reward myself with anymore. ;_; |
I don't smoke, and I don't really like to be around people who smoke. (This is mainly because cigarette/cigar smoke gives me a massive headache.)
Though, I don't think badly of people who smoke. (I just wish that some would care more about sharing their exhaled cancer gas without asking first.) |
I smoke black and mild cigars, and Xtra's which are clove cigarettes, I've gotte to where I also smoke Djarum originals which are non-filtered cloves. I probably spend about $10-15 dollars a week or so on smokes. I don't really plan on quitting. I think they do a good job of saving lives though if you really think about it. I know smoking has kept me from choking a number of people at the gamestop I work at. XD

Quote:
Man, I used to smoke those Djarums - the blacks. Those hurt my lungs so badly, I had to stop smoking most of anything flavored. Which is really disappointing because I always found them so enjoyable. I am pretty sure Encephalon smokes Djarum regularly as well. How much do they run a pack in the south, Ozz? |
Anyone ever smoke those gay cigarellos or what ever they are called with the plastic thingy? I love those...
|
Don't smoke here. Can't stand all the smoke.. When I'm around smoker friends, I'll position myself so the smoke don't come to me. When they go for cig breaks, I pull out a gum.
|
Thank you thank you :p
They actually help my breathing believe it or not. Due to smoking cigars all the time, something about the cloves make me breathe easier. But they run me between $3.75 and $5.25. Though my cigars are around $1.89 or so. Depending on where I go. |
I don't smoke but I have to deal with smokers all the time in my parents restaurant, that's the only place I tolerate them. BTW my boss smokes and constantly I have to remind him to not smoke in the office, so I make him smoke outside. Basically I don't mind if people smoke or not but I prefer that they don't do it when they are close to me.
|
I'm not against people who smoke, I mean it's their lungs. as long as they respect the fact that other people may not want to partake in their habit, then there's no reason to fuss about it.
neither of my parents ever smoked, so I've never gotten used to the smell or what it feels like when you inhale it second-hand. that's probably why I like to stay away from it. personally I just don't find anything appealing about it. where I live there's a public smoking ban, so unless you're walking through a designated smoking section somewhere outside a building then you probably won't be getting much exposure to it. I think cigarettes prices here are up to $10 a pack now. could be wrong though. |

I'm a habitual smoker, but I did quit when I started college and only started again when I broke up with my last girlfriend. Although, considering the animosity that's been directed toward smokers lately I try to avoid conflict and smoke in one of 2 places... My car or my room. My parents weren't smokers, although my uncles all were at some point, so I kind of grew up around it. I just smoke Djarum cloves once in a while and it usually takes me about a week to go through a single pack.
I figure that as long as I respect other people when they really don't wanna be around me when I'm puffing away at my joint, then I'm in OK shape, you know? |
I don't smoke (something about purposely inhaling smoke seems weird to me), and neither do any of my friends or family. I guess I don't mind being around people who do light up, but I much prefer if I don't have to breathe it in. The thought of getting lung cancer from secondhand smoke isn't what bothers me, it's just... smoke is kind of an irritating thing to breathe in most of the time.
That said, I have an appreciation for cigarette smoke as kind of as an atmospheric thing. If I walk through a casino or certain downtown areas without smelling cigarette smoke, it just feels a little different. |
In all honesty though the government here should thank smokers since we pay more taxes than anyone else. Granted yeah we should be nice to everyone else but, and this is something I just hate, I've been in a smoking area just for us smokers, and someone ask me to not smoke there cause they didn't like it. Wtf is that about. I figure if we're nice enough to smoke in our little designated areas the least people can do is leave us be when we do so. Not to say everyone is like that but there are always those few that just have to be an ass.

I wouldn't buy cigs with my current budget. I'd just take someone up on an offer. Once again, I hate to sound cliche, but I don't have an addictive personality. I went on a four-month non-caffeine run on a whim and it never really bothered me. It is calming, though. One of my favorite spots to go on-campus happens to be the out door smoking-station at my departmental building. Get some of the funniest conversations out there ;D |
I smoke cigars irregularly, but haven't since winter started. It would be fucking rude to do it in my parent's house and smoking something for an hour outside isn't my idea of a good time.
|
I don't smoke, since the buzz you get from it is tiny, at best, and lung cancer is not something I look forward to dealing with. I have no problem with other people smoking around me, though. Yeah, I know, a bit hypocritical with the second hand smoke and all, but I think people should be free to do whatever they want to their own bodies. Just don't blow it in my damn face.
|
I myself have been smoking for years upon years. It's never really been a hardcore addiction with me though. I've kept a steady average of about 4-6 cigarettes a day (sometime less) for the past 8 years. It's never really effected my physical proformence so I've never been too worried about it. Plus, sometimes there's nothing more satisfying than taking a long drag off a freshly rolled cigarette (I roll my own).
|
I quit smoking mid-December.
If these intense cravings don't let up soon, I'm going to be smoking again. Truly if I so badly lust for a cigarette every time I merely look outside, then I will eventually kneel before the power of instant oral gratification. I heard the way to help yourself quit is to avert the instant oral gratification - go on the patch. The patch will fill the void that smoking occupied but transfer it to a place beside your mouth. That way, when you continue to quit, it won't be your mouth that wants the cigarette anymore. Since oral gratification is always strong (as stated by Freud), getting rid of it helps. |

The only time I feel like smoking cigarettes is either after I'm drunk, or after I toke a bit. I don't know why this is. On the flipside, I enjoy the Shisha used in hookas immensely. It's just such a relaxing experience, and actually gives you a small buzz. Recreationally, hookas can be used as a centerpiece of a conversation, the silky smooth smoke serving as a catalyst to conversation. Just plain, relaxing, fun.

Perhaps I can never get past the desire totally, but at the very least I don't want to crave a cigarette every time I see one. Shit, seeing RISING STEAM makes me want a cigarette. I'm reaching a point where cancer, stroke, heart disease, etc, seem like a small price to pay for what would feel like freedom. Surely, "freedom" is a sticky word in this context, I have to be bound by cigarettes in this case in order to feel free. Even still, they possess me even when I reject them. So what's the point of all this suffering? |
Well look at it the way I do. You're going to die anyway, sure it'll probably be painful but it's getting rid of those last 10 years where someone else will probably be wiping your ass for you or you'll be in a coma. Or worse a mistreated elderly in a nursing home.
|
Not everyone gets old like that, dude.
|
Yeah you're right but the odds of it happening are rather high. Because not everyone will have someone that cares about them so there's always that chance. But it all comes down to eventually we're all gonna end up that way. Just because you're old doesn't mean that you'll be that way is true, but eventually it'll happen in some form or another. Let's face it the way things are going now, you're liable to be lucky if you get that much.
|
I've never smoked before, and I really doubt I'll ever start. The smell of it makes me feel kind of nauseous, and I get really irritated at how I'm forced to hold my breath when I walk in or out of many public buildings because of all the smokers congregating outside.
I've heard that in Canada a bill is (hopefully) going to pass preventing people from smoking within two-hundred feet of any entrance to a public building. And I will be happy. I don't really have anything against smokers as people, what they want to do in privacy is their thing, but when their "right to smoke" infringes on my "right to breath smoke-free air" and they get defensive about their digusting habit that I start to get annoyed. |
Quote:
Anyways, I dont smoke and I never plan to. I was curious about it at one point and may of even tried it. But then I saw what it was doing to my father. All the money he was burning daily in smoking. The way he acted when he didn't get one. The way his health and stamina declined over the years. The way his breathign changed.. sometimes I worry if he'll be able to actually finish taking a breath. He's in the military too. He has to keep his health up. If he cant perform they're not going to be happy about it. Smoking has been the cause of alot of problems for him. Thankfully he's finally trying to quit. But the damage is already done to him. |

Just out of curiosity... Does smoking pot count in here? I would think that since it's such a "tabboo" thread that it woule include "tabboo" subjects such as smoking bud.
I'm only saying this because I smoke the shit once in a while too. However, that "personal space" respect goes with this as well. I can't very well expect the population to adapt, now can I? |
Yeah I smoke pot occasionally as well, which I do it as any other smoking, I try to keep it away from most people, I don't go out of my way to blow smoke in their face. I tend to keep to myself, and smoke in our designated areas. The least we should be able to ask is that people respect that of us if we respect them enough to smoke there.
I mean all in all it's rediculous, we smoke in buildings and they want us to stop. We say ok, so we either get our own smoking section or we go outside so as not to bother them. But for some that's not good enough. I mean damn what do they want. We pay more taxes than anyone I think we should decide where we can and cannot smoke if anything since we seem to be paying for most of the shit anyway. |
Quote:
About compromising, what exactly do you feel gives smokers the right to expose others to a seriously harmful substance? It seems like kind of a dick thing to do, to knowingly subject people to something that is not only unpleasant, but physically damaging. |
Well here, we don't have to go outside or to a smoking section for the most part. But we're nice enough to do so. We might have no right to subject someone to that, but who are you to tell us to go somewhere else. We've got right to be anywhere, and last time I checked this was still a so called "free" country. Most of us are nice enough to either hold the smoke in till a non-smoker passes or just put it out. But for most that isn't good enough. Guess if we all stopped smoking you all could love to have to pay in more taxes to make up for what we're paying in for our smokes. But then you'd bitch about having to do that too.
EDIT:Here's the info on how much we paid in taxes. Just choose your state and see. |
Quote:
|
I can't see what smokers paid in my state as I'm Canadian, but I don't think I'd really mind partially footing the bill for a smoking ban.
Common courtesy gives me the right to ask a smoker to go somewhere else, much like it would with any other distraction, like loud music or a crying child. Most people don't have a problem with turning down music they're listening to, and while you can't really do the same with a kid, you can take them elsewhere until they calm down if they're really bothering someone. When someone figures out how to "turn down" cigarettes, maybe that'll be an option, but for the time being it's similar to the kind throwing a tantrum. I was waiting to see when the "free country" argument would come into play, but again I'm not convinced that a smoker's right to smoke supercedes that of a non-smoker's right to breathe less-polluted air. Obviously I'm of the opinion that the latter is more important. |
Unfortunately I smoke. I try to quit, but something sh*tty always happens that just makes me start again. Then again, maybe that's just me making up excuses. Anyone else ever feel that way? XD
|
I've been smoking for about three years now, and I certainly know it's kept me from totally just strangling people into oblivion. Salem black labels were my smoke of choice for about six months until I discovered cloves, and have been absolutely hooked on Djarum blacks since. They run a little under $5 a pack where I live (Louisiana), and I go through a pack about every two or three days, sometimes longer. Depends on my stress level, really.
Do I want to quit? Nah. Perhaps work my way back down to a lesser cigarette since cloves still have a nice burning sensation even after smoking them for so long, and I know they cause havoc to my sinuses. I've been trying to do that for a while now, actually. A pack of them would last me abou a day beforehand, so I'm starting to slowly ween myself off cloves and go back to menthols. |
I can't even afford to smoke. lol.
You guys are lucky, what with all your freedom and such. |
Heh... riiiiight. I think for most of us, we smoke because there are so many things wrong with our lives that it makes us feel less bad about ourselves by smoking.
Either that or we're just stupid. :D |
I smoke cigars, maybe sometimes cigarillos. Smoking cigarettes is for losers. I even detest people who think they have to smoke but don't have enough money for real filter cigarettes and buy this stupid tobacco self-made kit shit instead.
|
I do not smoke.
I don't really care if people smoke, it's their problem, but I can be annoyed when they smoke in my presence. However I'm kind of used to it since my parents've been smoking around me for a very long time. |
Quote:
Having only recently started smoking, I'm still trying different brands to see which I like the best - right now it's Winstons. I started with stealing a Winston light from my parents, so I figure I may as well continue the trend. I only smoke about 3 a day on a normal day. On a stressful day or a day at home when I can smoke in my room, I can smoke as many as seven. Still, it takes me about a week to get through a whole pack. Anyway, I've got this lame excuse about it being a genetic deficiency in glutamate or something. Everybody in my extended family smokes, and to top that off I'm 1/8th Native American (same a Chuck Norris, whoopty-doo). I mean, it's probably just placebo, but I feel much more sane now that I'm smoking again. It's like there was something missing. Actually, I'd like to smoke a pipe instead, but I've got to wait until I'm older so I don't look like a complete tool doing it. |

Stop now before you get too addicted. As an ex-smoker I can tell you that it's not easy to stop, and the longer you wait, the harder it gets. |
Smoking makes no sense to me, so I never tried and never will try.
I wonder who came up with the stupid idea to fill a piece of paper with plantstuff, put it in his mouth and set it aflame. It's like walking around with a pencil stuck in your nose. |

I have a friend who recently tried to quit drinking and failed miserably, but since he missed having that fucking buzz from beer he decided he was going to make up for it with cloves. So this dumbshit was chain-smoking a pack and a half of Djarum Specials every night. I had to start hiding my packs when he'd come over to the house because he'd literally ash about a week's worth of cigarettes in one night and god forbid he was "fuckin' stressed by a test, man" because then it would be 2 week's worth of my smokes. :/ |
UGH. I hate it when people would bum cloves off of me repeatedly and not ask me. It's one thing to ask me, to which I will normally comply. But to just yoink 'em? Not cool dude, not cool. The only problem with hiding blacks is that the smell totally seeps from outside the package and unto everything it touches for more than a few hours so it's kind of hard to hide them. ;_;
I've never tried the cherry. Love the vanilla, though. |
I don't smoke. Never had the urge to try.
I don't mind people smoking, except when they do it in a restaurant, while you're trying to eat. |

I had one before, and they're delicious; nothing's better than a nicotine fix combined with the taste of candy. I heard they're worse for you than normal cigarettes, though. Generally when men go for flavor, it's a black & mild "cigar" or maybe another brand of cheap cigar (generally the kind that are easy to put weed in [cigarellos, White Owls]). I avoid black & milds because they get stale so quickly and when they are stale they will make your lungs feel like poop if you take a single inhale... Truly sickening... You can hear the cheap papers crackling as you puff... Shit, I haven't had one of those in a while. SHIIIIT. I need to get away from this thread. Quote:

Nope, I think I'm allergic to the smoke. And it doesn't help that dad is allergic to weed, so I'm pretty much stuck with being healthy. 0_o
|
I've never smoked and don't intend to. I remember when I was growing up I was always ragging on my parents trying to make them quit. My mum came close once and my dad did give up for a couple of weeks, but they're still both going now. I think I used to piss them off quite a lot actaully, constantly telling them not to do it. Now however I don't really care if people want to do it as really it's up to them, I just like some consideration from smokers not to almost purposely blow it in my face and I'm fine with it.
|
I've smoked since I was about 12 or so. At the moment I smoke about 10 Marlboro Lights a day although that number rockets up on friday and saturday evenings when I'm out at the pub. I might quit one of these days though, it's getting rather expensive.

Besides, we've all got to die someday. It would be my luck that I'd be a physical health purist and die in a car crash at 30. It's not like I'm chowing down on cheeseburgers and fried eggs, anyway ... and there are all sorts of other excuses. |
I do not smoke, and I do not mind the smell. It's what I hear about what inhaling it can do for my health that bothers me. I understand you're addicted, but please dont kill me. :)
|
I noticed alot of you non-smokers don't mind others smoking.
I'm waay on the other spectrum. I tend to mind ALOT... but i never act on it at all or make faces. But it gives me headache and frustration... and I think im allergic to it cuz I get very bad stomach aches. So sometimes, I can't help it and leave the vicinity or change seats on the bus. Very annoying when i ingest smoke in the morning due to public bus stops. Sorry smokers. |
I smoke cigarettes, Camel Lights mostly, but sometimes Basic Menthol Ultra Light 100's (my girlfriends cigarettes), and whnever both of us are out of them, I just bum Marlboro's from my friend Bryan. I love smoking, I don't know why. I usualyy smoke about 3/4 pack a day.
|
I sucked a mouthfull of a cigarette once. I hated it, so nowadays, I don't smoke and I never will.
I, however, absolutely love the smell of cigar(ette) smoke in bars and the smell of people when they come inside after a fag outside. I'm strange, I know. |
I don't smoke. Neither does anyone in my family. I really don't care if people smoke around me as long as they aren't puffing smoke in my face. I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, but I don't mind the smell of it burning.
|
I really don't like smoking... I have never tried it, but even the smell of it makes me feel bad. Sometimes people who smoke don't even know themselves that their clothes/breath smell bad. :shh:
|
I don't smoke regularly, but every once in a while I might do a cigar if I'm feeling particularly agitated, or am conversely in a celebratory mood. Hookah's fucking amazing tobacco, and I love kicking it back with friends, smoking pomegranate (my favorite) or some other funky flavor of tobacco out of a hookah and feeling heady. Other than that, cigarettes kill me, but I don't mind smokers as long as they explore the option that least infects the communal air.

I smoke. Mayfair, Marlboro, Camel, Winstons. Any of those would be fine. I only smoke at most five a day, and some days not even that many. It's mostly on the weekends that I tend to hit five a day. With that small of a habit, it's not too expensive, and I really don't care about the health threat. |
I tried it a few years back, but that's about it. About half of my friends smoke and I guess I don't mind the smell, which isn't really a good thing, but I could be doing worse things. Though, I really like the smell of unlit ciggarettes.

Ah this thread again. Currently I am still smoking. Mostly Marb Reds, Skydancer Menthols (Native American brand around here cause of all the reservations) and Djarum Blacks if I have a lot of money. Trying to quit though.

I have no ill or good feelings towards smokers. We can say I have a neutral feeling about them. I treat them the way I would treat any other person. They are all aware of the health risks at which they place themselves in when they smoke - the buttom line being is smoking can be relaxing for them. Smoking in my presence has one problem. My lungs can get really screwed up when I'm around them too long. It starts to hurt and I end up coughing like a mad man. This is why I don't smoke/drink/smoke pot, etc because my body really cannot handle that stuff. There are some who will not smoke in my presence and they are some who assume I don't mind. Either way I will deal with it because I will not be around them 24/7. |
I'm a smoker. When I first started it was Camel filters all the way. It's been about 4 years since I started smoking, and theres been many phases. After Camel filters it was: Marb Mediums, Marb Milds (the only menthol I ever really liked), Daves, Daves lights, and now Camel Lights. My smoking habbits have got much 'better' of the years. I'm down to about a pack a week, and only when I drink. I normally end up smoking a half a pack Friday night, and the other half on Saturday night.
Packs are about $5.00 on average here in Washington. The tax here is semi-high, but that isn't even the bad part. As of about a month ago, there is NO smoking indoors anywhere in Seattle. Considering I only smoke when I drink now this really sucks because you can't even drink at bars anymore, you have to finish your drink and walk outside (25 feet from any public door, open or not) just to smoke. Yet I still do it... The smell and cure of oral fixation is just too comforting for me to give them up completely. |
I've been in the process of quitting for about oh...6 months now, following rehabilitation for my passed meth addiction. I don't like smoking but it has had a bit of a hold on my nerves. On a trip, I easily went through 12 packs a day. On sober days, about 2 packs a day. With hard work, I'm now down to one cigarette every 2 or 3 days. Brand & Make of choice: Marlboro 27's. It's been a day since my last smoke. I'm going for it, this time.
Yesterday, I was craving so badly that I bought a pack, lit one, then threw the rest of the pack away. I'm trying to quit just as badly as I need a drag. I figure that if I keep wasting five dollars for every one cigarette, I'll get the picture. |
I don't smoke b/c of the smell. For me if I start smelling a lot of the smoke I start to feel a little bit nauseated and light headed. I have many friends and family members who smoke but I have no problem with them. I just don't like the smell of smoke. Plain and simple.
|
I have been smoking since I was 15... I started on Mar. Reds because that's all my friends and I love smoking those ever since. My poison of choice, is the Red 100's.
I'm not really into any of those fancy flavor ones like the 27's or the Camel Twisted Flavor ones. Maybe its just me, but when i smoke those, i feel like I'm barely inhaling any of the smoke compared to smoking just regular smokes. I have tried quiting way too many times and I have come to the conclusion that I won't be able to quit, but I have cut down from a few packs a week to maybe a pack a month. Not a bad drop if I do say so myself. |

I do have a question though, what exactly do clove cigs taste like? Seem to be pretty popular around here, and im up for trying anything. Any suggestions to brand? price? flavor (if aplicable)? |
